00:34:22.000 Yeah, I did do a lot of stomping around there over the years.

00:34:25.000 College on the way through to heading for Houston back in 1982.

00:34:31.000 Sir, tell us a little bit about yourself, your relation.

00:34:33.000 I mean, I have the Associated Press, the Washington Post here, the bombshell you dropped about a month ago about LBJ and the assassination of JFK.

00:34:43.000 I've had LBJ's former mistress on.

00:34:44.000 I've had a lot of the witnesses on.

00:34:46.000 Their stories all are identical to yours.

00:34:50.000 Can you first tell us a little bit about yourself and then why you've gone public?

00:34:54.000 Sure.

00:34:54.000 I was an attorney in Austin for many years with the Clark Thomas Law Firm and we did the representation for Lyndon Johnson.

00:35:01.000 Ed Clark was the only man he Lyndon Johnson trusted and Don Thomas was the business attorney.

00:35:08.000 I was an attorney with them and did a lot of work in that area from 1966 until Johnson's death and even afterwards it continued.

00:35:15.000 I left the firm in 1978 over an ethical dispute.

00:35:19.000 I've since moved on and am now finishing up this book.

00:35:24.000 The book is finished.

00:35:25.000 It's out.

00:35:26.000 And I'm telling the story.

00:35:30.000 Now, let's go over what the book covers.

00:35:33.000 I mean, your book, according to press reports, I have not gotten the book yet, though I was told a copy is being sent to me by your publicist.

00:35:42.000 The bombshell that you've dropped is that LBJ had bragged to people that he was behind the assassination.

00:35:50.000 Well, he knew that there was an assassination.

00:35:53.000 He never himself said that he was behind the assassination of John Kennedy.

00:35:57.000 uh... in the law firm uh... there was plenty of talk along those lines and the

00:36:01.000 word i first heard in nineteen sixty six was that uh...

00:36:05.000 at car was behind the assassination and later this was confirmed in nineteen

00:36:09.000 Well obviously there's a lot of people, I'm talking about that whole power structure, the meeting in Dallas the night before, we've had the witnesses on who said that he bragged that, you know, he'll never bother me again, he'll be dead tomorrow, but go over who Mr. Clark is for those that don't know.

00:36:25.000 Clark was known as the boss of Texas as early as 1949.

00:36:30.000 practice law there and had a deal with the judges where the judges would either

00:36:34.000 would rule for him in close cases which met all cases and uh... he wanted to talk to me always had access in turn

00:36:41.000 he took care of them with benefits of all kinds and all sorts of different ways

00:36:46.000 he was uh... practicing law in austin as early as nineteen thirty four

00:36:50.000 little known fact that uh... he joined the army in nineteen forty two

00:36:55.000 when the war was going badly for us uh...

00:36:57.000 he was stealing money from the quartermaster for which he was kicked out

00:37:01.000 of the army Somehow he survived that and gained the power he had.

00:37:04.000 This power continued, and the book has the exhibits laying this out, with Johnson saying, you're the only man I trust.

00:37:12.000 I have, you know, deeply indebted to you.

00:37:15.000 But the main thing it shows is how they had a conspiracy as early as 1949, where in Clark's own handwriting, he says, we're going to take care of this man for good.

00:37:24.000 And we have this debt problem that we've got to go along with, and Johnson the next day writes back and said, we know the risk you're taking, and we'll see that you're protected.

00:37:33.000 Lays out the basic arrangement they had up through past the assassination.

00:37:37.000 And that's really the heart of the book.

00:37:39.000 68 exhibits all showing what went on during the Johnson-Clark years, and taking through to the fingerprints that put one of Johnson's hitmen, Mack Wallace, on the sixth floor in Dallas.

00:37:52.000 And the cover-up, which is also part of the crime.

00:37:54.000 time. 68 exhibits tell the story. Well, again, we're talking to Barr McClellan,

00:38:00.000 his son, of course, is the White House Press Secretary right now as well, and that's caused

00:38:03.000 quite a furor in the press. Barr, I mean, specifically, and again, folks really should

00:38:12.000 get the book, but specifically, the evidence of, and how this evidence surfaced, obviously

00:38:19.000 as LBJ's lawyer for you, how this surfaced and exactly what they were doing, how the

00:38:25.000 operation was carried out from the evidence you have.

00:38:28.000 Well, what I have, it shows Johnson's involvement in a crime where a federal agent was murdered on June 3rd of 1961.

00:38:34.000 The grand jury looked into the crime a number of years later and would have indicted Johnson for that murder.

00:38:40.000 The point there was Johnson in 1960 had all the motivations to be president.

00:38:45.000 He'd been de facto president, but had lost out to this young upstart named John Kennedy.

00:38:50.000 And he, Johnson, was also in trouble with this murder.

00:38:53.000 He was facing serious problems.

00:38:55.000 Can we have particulars of the murder, please?

00:38:57.000 Yes, the particulars are Billy Saul Estes had been working with the Department of Agriculture, getting a lot of money.

00:39:03.000 Some of that money was going to Johnson.

00:39:06.000 But he'd gotten in trouble, he, Estes, and the Henry Marshall was investigating the financing.

00:39:13.000 Johnson and Estes sent Mack Wallace, who had killed before for Johnson, to visit Henry Marshall.

00:39:19.000 And on June 3, 1961, up in Robertson County, Marshall was killed.

00:39:25.000 He was beat up.

00:39:28.000 Carbon monoxide poison was apparently tried.

00:39:31.000 And then he was shot five times in the side with a bolt-action rifle.

00:39:34.000 Because of Clark's control of the justice system in Texas, the ruling was suicide.

00:39:38.000 That was reversed by the grand jury later, and they would have indicted Johnson if he'd still been around.

00:39:43.000 Now the hitman you just talked about, I remember his name being brought up by LBJ's mistress as well, about how he was constantly around him, how if somebody went out with this guy's girlfriend, he'd go after them.

00:39:56.000 Just incredible.

00:39:58.000 Well, he was there, but he was kept pretty much undercover.

00:40:01.000 He was sent out to California to give him perfect cover and brought back as needed.

00:40:04.000 He always had a phone number in Dallas where he could be reached.

00:40:08.000 And he was tied very closely to the assassination by an eyewitness who was supposed to be one of the other patsies in the assassination.

00:40:18.000 He wrote a book came out on what Lloyd Factor saw of Mack Wallace on the sixth floor.

00:40:23.000 We got the fingerprint putting Mack Wallace on the sixth floor.

00:40:26.000 And as you mentioned, Madeleine Brown said he was there and Billy Solis just said he was there.

00:40:31.000 So we have eyewitnesses, we have fingerprints, and we have a crime scene that shows how it was done.

00:40:36.000 Now again, Madeline Brown is the mistress at the party with all the big Texas elite, some of the East Coast elite, basically a planning meeting with LBJ there.

00:40:45.000 That's basically what it boiled down to.

00:40:48.000 When the power structure gets together, they are above it all, and they really don't have to get into the details, but they knew what was going on, and they were behind Johnson, Clark, Wallace, And that happened that day before.

00:41:04.000 Right when the assassination took place, how long did it take you to become aware, as LBJ's lawyer, of all this going on?

00:41:11.000 Well, I was mentioned first to me in 66.

00:41:14.000 I really didn't believe it at the time.

00:41:16.000 In 73, it was pretty well confirmed to me by Don Thomas.

00:41:19.000 I think it was a good bit of denial on my part.

00:41:21.000 Now tell folks who Don Thomas is.

00:41:23.000 Don Thomas was the business lawyer for Lyndon Johnson and knew as much about the business as anyone.

00:41:28.000 He was the other partner with Clark.

00:41:31.000 They were the two men, really, that took care of Johnson's affairs.

00:41:34.000 From the people you talked to who were there at the party and the things that, I mean, any particulars you'd like to bring forward for the listeners?

00:41:40.000 No, I wasn't there.

00:41:41.000 I have a good idea of how it was done because Clark had this way of talking insider knowledge And he would give out the information that something really big was going to happen, and he had the support of the people for what that was.

00:41:55.000 There was no specific saying of how it was going to be carried out.

00:41:58.000 But as insiders' knowledge, he's good at doing that.

00:42:01.000 That's what Brown said.

00:42:03.000 She said they were all just laughing and giggling and saying, boy, we're on the high road now.

00:42:07.000 He won't bother us after tomorrow.

00:42:09.000 Ha ha ha.

00:42:10.000 There was a great deal of pleasure.

00:42:12.000 There were many people who were very unhappy with John Kennedy and were looking forward to seeing him gone.

00:42:18.000 And then now it's even coming out, I'm told, I haven't seen it yet on the New Discovery Channel and History Channel shows they're airing, with them bragging that, you know, going over the radio, we got him, we got him, right after they blew his head off.

00:42:30.000 These things were all reported and have been there and they are on the History Channel.

00:42:35.000 It's got a three-part series on the men who killed Kennedy and that's all being presented.

00:42:39.000 Now, I haven't seen that report yet.

00:42:42.000 I mean, obviously, everybody's calling me about it and telling me about it.

00:42:45.000 Have you seen it?

00:42:46.000 Well, I was taped for a good part of it for a couple of days.

00:42:49.000 I have not seen it myself, because it started while we were up here on a press conference, and I just haven't picked it up yet.

00:42:55.000 Oh, I know the feeling of being so busy you can't even watch TV.

00:42:58.000 I'm gonna try to watch it tonight.

00:43:00.000 I'm told it's re-airing.

00:43:01.000 Look, this is such a big story.

00:43:02.000 You're right, you know, on the inside of all this.

00:43:06.000 And again, you're quoted in the press as saying that you talked to people in and around Johnson.

00:43:09.000 We're saying, oh yeah, he talked about it.

00:43:13.000 What do the listeners need to know, and why is this story so important?

00:43:16.000 Well, as laid out in the book, Johnson really got things started when he turned over the Secret Service policy manual for the protection of the President, Ed Clark, while he was still Vice President.

00:43:26.000 In effect, he gave him the master plan for protecting the President.

00:43:31.000 That got Clark started.

00:43:32.000 He could bring Wallace back into the picture.

00:43:34.000 Wallace, we know, through other witnesses, recruited shooters to do the job, including Oswald.

00:43:42.000 We've traced Oswald into the Clark camp through three different sources, and we know that Wallace and Oswald had a practice shot to General Edwin Walker up in Dallas in March of that year.

00:43:55.000 So all this has been traced back and presented and takes us right up to the assassination day itself, where the crime scene, once you analyze it, and knowing this conspiracy was behind it, you see exactly what happened.

00:44:08.000 And I've laid that out in the book, of course.

00:44:10.000 And for those listening to us, from the evidence you have, what happened that day, in a nutshell?

00:44:16.000 What happened was Wallace showed up with Oswald.

00:44:21.000 Oswald took the first shot.

00:44:24.000 Wallace took the second shot, Oswald got in a third shot, and a man was over on the Grassy Knoll area, and he took the fatal shot.

00:44:33.000 We know how Wallace got away because we know how Oswald got away.

00:44:36.000 Wallace was ready to leave in an instant, and he did.

00:44:39.000 Oswald saw he'd been duped, he'd become a patsy all of a sudden, and he took off the same way.

00:44:44.000 Now I've been told by former NSA people, by Brown, the mistress, and by others, and I have the Dallas Times Herald photo of them taking him into custody, We know he was behind the knoll.

00:44:54.000 From your research, was it Harrelson who took the headshot?

00:44:58.000 We have not been able to make that identification yet.

00:45:01.000 We have several good suspects, but we don't have the kind of evidence we have for Wallace, where we've got fingerprints and eyewitnesses that were there.

00:45:10.000 So we haven't made that identification yet.

00:45:12.000 I hope the book will bring out some people.

00:45:20.000 I know Harrelson will not give interviews.

00:45:23.000 Father Woody Harrelson, he's in federal prison for killing a judge at 400 yards with a .243.

00:45:33.000 Well, he's kept his mouth shut and his family's been certainly rewarded.

00:45:53.000 Number one, have you been threatened in conjunction with this exposé?

00:45:58.000 And number two, why is this all coming out now with the History Channel and Discovery Channel and huge exposés coming right out with LBJ being involved?

00:46:09.000 Well, it is, and to answer the first question, I haven't been threatened, but a couple of people working with me have had at least some questionable events come up.

00:46:18.000 As far as why it's coming out now, of course, the 40th anniversary is one big reason.

00:46:23.000 I wasn't able to get it all together and present it in book form until now, but I first started talking about it in 1984, when I put it in an affidavit in Texas courts, and it's been around for that long.

00:46:36.000 It took until 1992 when I had an agent that was interested in the book.

00:46:40.000 We had to do a lot of research to get the prints together, to get all the other exhibits that are in the book, and then we had to present it to the government, and that was really the toughest time I had because this is going on in the real world, and I had to let the Kennedy family know that this had been done and that we were bringing it out.

00:46:57.000 What did the Kennedy family say to you?

00:46:59.000 Well, we didn't expect an answer.

00:47:04.000 It was a courtesy more than anything.

00:47:06.000 We've had since a call indicating that what went on in Dallas is correct from the Kennedy side of the family.

00:47:12.000 Well, I'm told that JFK Jr.

00:47:14.000 was about to use his magazine to expose this.

00:47:17.000 I've heard it, but I don't know anything about that.

00:47:24.000 Obviously, the Warren Commission, the Congress, they all work together with the President to cover this up, to take away the car, to have it refurbished, you know, to have it rebuilt, to have all the bullet holes covered up.

00:47:38.000 I mean, the cover-up goes on and on, so how does this tie in to the military-industrial complex?

00:47:44.000 Well, what it ties into is a cover-up that was set in place immediately.

00:47:48.000 It started with the first meeting of the Warren Commission.

00:47:50.000 It started with J. Edgar Hoover, when he assured everyone there was one lone nut.

00:47:55.000 And some of that's in the book, showing how Clark's hand is there, keeping Ruby quiet and making sure the FBI didn't get investigated for its mistakes.

00:48:04.000 How this all ties in is, at the time, there was this general feeling that John Kennedy was trying too hard to compromise things with the Soviet Union.

He said we can detonate plastic explosives in D.C., commit sniper attacks, and then frame people.
