00:02:57.300 friends, it's another weekend where I can't believe that this is my real job that I get paid for because
00:03:02.500 for those of you who don't know, I love rodeo. I love rodeo culture. I love western wear a little
00:03:07.380 more than I should. I love little kids and cowboy hats. I love the prayers before rodeo begins.
00:03:12.820 I love the celebration of the tradition of man versus animal that has built so much of this great
00:03:17.700 province. And I love fighting the government for freedom. So this is a great day on the job for me
00:03:23.620 because the government has said that this event cannot go forward. I should tell you that our
00:03:28.180 friends at the Western Standard are sponsoring the rodeo today. Good move guys, right on brand.

00:03:37.700 check it out. Now today's Sunday, so day two of this two-day event. Cowboy Church has just wrapped up.
00:03:44.820 How many different ways is that illegal in Alberta? An in-person unrestricted church at an illegal rodeo.
00:03:51.460 Anyway, approximately 2,000 people were in attendance yesterday here at Ty Northcott's farm just south of
00:03:59.860 Bowdoin. Ty Northcott is a legend in the Canadian rodeo industry and he's a stock provider for the
00:04:06.660 sport and initially he tried to put on his protest rodeo at the local Bowdoin rodeo grounds but after
00:04:13.380 Alberta Health Services put pressure on the local ag society they terminated their contract with him to
00:04:20.580 use the site. But as they say the show must go on so Ty moved the entire rodeo over to his farm
00:04:28.900 in the blink of an eye. Yesterday two local RCMP officers were sent out to investigate the event.
00:04:36.180 Rebel News was there when they arrived but they weren't adversarial whatsoever. They were clearly
00:04:42.980 not here yesterday to bust up the event. How could they? There were just two of them. They were here to
00:04:47.380 collect evidence on behalf of Alberta Health Services so that they can come along and ticket
00:04:51.940 Ty after the fact. This friends is a deeply conservative area and this is the heart of
00:04:58.260 Canada's rodeo country and these folks in attendance today are normally the base that UCP Premier Jason
00:05:05.380 Kenney can reliably count on but yesterday when Jason Kenney's name was mentioned he was booed. These
00:05:13.140 people are here to rebel against Jason Kenney's lockdown not only on their favourite sport but on
00:05:18.980 their lives in general. Rodeo in Canada has missed one full season and the second season is in serious
00:05:26.740 jeopardy if the sport doesn't reopen immediately. Meanwhile in places like Wyoming, North and South Dakota,
00:05:33.780 Texas and Florida, Cowboys are making money and competing every single weekend in the sport they love.
00:05:40.500 Canadian cowboys are being left behind. Here in Alberta the government wants us to believe that
00:05:45.940 cowboys who ride bulls and saddle bronx and wrestle steers should be scared enough of a disease with a
00:05:53.140 nearly 100% survival rate that they should understand why their sport is being slowly killed by the
00:05:59.620 government. All the right people are outraged about this event. NDP leader and former Premier Rachel
00:06:05.060 Notley says she has no words for what's happening here. Well I do Rachel just pretend this is a BLM march
00:06:11.380 of thousands of people in an Edmonton or a Calgary street back when it was perfectly safe for your MLAs
00:06:18.900 to attend those events and even speak at them. Amazing isn't it folks? The great destroyer Rachel Notley
00:06:25.940 has no words for an illegal rodeo taking place but oh she has plenty of words and words of affirmation no
00:06:34.260 less when it comes to Black Lives Matter demonstrations because of course the Wuhan virus won't infect
00:06:42.100 social justice demonstrators but I guess it hates rodeo fans and it will turn such a gathering into a super
00:06:50.660 spreader event because that's what the science dictates. But what kind of science are we speaking
00:06:58.820 of here? Political science or weird science? And joining me now regarding the war on rodeo in Alberta
00:07:08.420 is Sheila Gunn-Reed. How you doing there Sheila? Hey David thanks for having me on the show. Always a
00:07:14.100 pleasure my friend. So Sheila last week we spoke about the war on motocross in Alberta. This week
00:07:20.500 it's the rodeo and I have to ask the same question. Given that the vast majority of the Wuhan virus deaths
00:07:29.940 are seniors residing in long-term care facilities how in the world does shutting down an outdoor rodeo
00:07:38.500 do anything to improve that gruesome situation? It doesn't. Everybody knows that it doesn't. I mean
00:07:47.380 as you rightly point out the vast majority of the deaths related to the COVID-19 pandemic are coming
00:07:57.940 from government controlled and government regulated facilities namely long-term care facilities.
00:08:03.460 It's not coming from anything that's happening outside and actually we know that living a sedentary
00:08:10.740 lifestyle and being inactive those are some of the largest contributors to the comorbidities that result
00:08:20.020 in deaths related to COVID-19. So shutting down these outdoor activities with largely fit young people
00:08:28.420 as competitors seems counterintuitive if you are truly concerned about the spread of the coronavirus.
00:08:34.260 Yeah and I mean to compare apples with apples here Sheila I would suggest that on the same day that rodeo was
00:08:42.420 happening in your province there were walmarts there were costcos indoor gatherings maybe even more people
00:08:49.540 than showed up to that rodeo so where's the science here uh that an outdoor event is a super spreader
00:08:58.340 event but indoors shop till you drop hey that's okay I don't get it. Yeah I mean that's the thing

00:09:48.420 and that's takeout as long as you go straight home and eat it with your immediate family none of it
00:09:55.060 makes sense and that's the reason why people are doing these things now people who played by the rules

00:10:42.340 uh dumping on rodeo yet embracing even larger gatherings of black lives matter demonstrated demonstrators but
00:10:50.260 you would expect that from Rachel Notley you would expect her to be hypocritical uh when it comes to
00:10:57.780 different types of demonstrations you would expect her to dump on western heritage which is rodeo but it
00:11:05.860 seems that I heard a rumor that premier kenny said words to the effect of he wants a new base what what
00:11:14.660 what was wrong with the old base and this would be rodeo supporters and rodeo people what was wrong
00:11:22.020 with that old base that gave him a majority a couple of years ago yeah that's the thing you said in your
00:11:27.220 introduction that Rachel Notley said she had no words that that's fine she by and large shut up then
00:11:33.860 but jason kenny had plenty of words for these people who are his base the Bowdoin rodeo is exactly
00:11:42.980 a place where jason kenny would drive his blue pickup truck his unite alberta pickup truck and campaign
00:11:48.660 for votes he would shake hands he'd flip pancakes in the morning and he would go to cowboy church
00:11:55.700 yet after the rodeo he denounced not only the people who attended the rodeo but the rodeo organizers
00:12:03.860 ty northcott and i suppose by extension the professional cowboys who competed in the event
00:12:12.260 and these are well-known professional cowboys that if they had the i at this point good fortune to be
00:12:20.020 americans they would be rodeoing just fine in wyoming in montana in the dakotas in florida and in texas
00:12:28.660 because those are the only places right now that you can make money as a cowboy and some places in
00:12:33.540 nevada um but they're basically out of luck here in alberta and jason kenny went on this several
00:12:44.740 tweet screed uh right after the rodeo denouncing the people who went and also saying that they don't
00:12:53.940 represent the rodeo community if working cowboys canadian finals rodeo competitors and ty northcott
00:13:03.300 a generational cowboy a stock contractor i mean the guy's the heart and soul of the rodeo industry
00:13:11.060 if these people are not representative of rodeo then nobody is and it's certainly not a career
00:13:18.020 politician from his perch in edmonton who speaks for the rodeo community the thing is jason kenny has
00:13:24.340 to try to say that they don't represent the rodeo community at large because because naturally then
00:13:32.500 he'd have a real problem on his hands right that he he's got to paint those people as fringe radicals
00:13:38.420 because then you know then they seem like a small minority instead of the vocal majority of rodeo now is
00:13:46.260 speaking out against jason kenny sheila to me what you just said is so staggering as you know i i got
00:13:53.220 into the journalism racket back in 1985 when i got a job at st paul alberta at the journal there and i
00:13:59.700 covered plenty of rodeos and in addition to meeting some of just the greatest guys you could ever come
00:14:06.500 across people that would give you the shirt off their back um my impression was that these are
00:14:13.940 hardcore conservative people these are the people that would have voted uh ucp these aren't the you
00:14:21.220 know soy boy woke latte drinking types that go for rachel notley um did something change in the world
00:14:30.020 of rodeo or if that's not the case and i don't think it's the case then what happened to premier kenny
00:14:37.780 in the space of a few years i don't know i don't know rodeo is still the same i mean i haven't been
00:14:44.340 to a rodeo except for this one since november of 2019 so it's been a while since we've had a rodeo
00:14:50.900 but it is the same old rodeo cowboy church farmers ranchers families uh prayers before um each day
00:14:58.260 kicks off i mean it's the same it's the rodeo is exactly the same what's she what's changed is jason
00:15:05.060 kenny jason kenny is not the same jason kenny that campaigned at small town rodeos um i mean to
00:15:12.660 denounce these people these hard-working people who not only are his base because they're in agriculture
00:15:18.020 but are also his base because rodeo cowboys they moonlight as professional cowboys yeah by and large
00:15:24.740 they have real jobs in trucking farming and the oil patch and so those people i mean these people
00:15:30.580 are like layers and layers and layers of the reliable conservative base and jason kenny says
00:15:35.860 he doesn't want them as his base anymore so good luck getting the woke karate in edmonton to vote for
00:15:41.220 you yeah no that's why i love the rodeo cowboys they they've all got day jobs much like professional
00:15:46.340 lacrosse players uh in in that league they're they're firefighters or police officers uh so they are
00:15:52.740 literally doing it for the love of the sport not for seven or eight figure contracts where which you see
00:15:59.140 with the other major sports exit question sheila looking forward in the days and weeks to come
00:16:06.020 do you see some critical mass here like i i know every town and city and hamlet and alberta
00:16:12.500 has a rodeo at some point on the calendar will you see more rodeos in the future spring up in defiance of
00:16:20.900 the government or will they bend the knee uh to these bureaucrats and alberta health services uh
00:16:28.500 people in terms of trying to get them to shut down because allegedly they're super spreader events
00:16:35.300 well it sounds like ty northcott is going to continue to organize rodeos and um so that he doesn't put the
00:16:43.540 local agricultural societies in jeopardy by using their rodeo grounds he's looking to use private land
00:16:48.980 to do it um and so he's not on like he's not frightened he's not scared he's going to keep
00:16:56.420 going ahead and his rodeo had sponsors so not just the western standard online which i mean
00:17:03.540 great very on brand guys at the western standard but he had some other corporate sponsors too so the
00:17:09.460 corporate world that jason kenny again usually reliably can count on um they are siding with the
00:17:17.940 lockdown resistors now and i think we are going to see critical mass the rebellion seems to constantly
00:17:25.540 be coming from rural alberta it happened with the restaurant or the restaurant rebellion it's going to
00:17:31.380 happen with rodeo um so we'll see but i mean it looks to me like that conservative coalition
00:17:40.580 that the wild rose and the old pcs that's coming undone we're seeing that you know the
00:17:50.500 people are splitting off again going back to the uh wild rose idea of you know we don't need edmonton
00:17:58.180 making our rules for us we're seeing that and we're seeing that happening within jason kenney's caucus
00:18:03.300 because there are that you know dozen and a half mlas who signed that anti-lockdown letter
00:18:09.380 yeah we're seeing things unravel for jason kenney and he's running out of time to fix it oh i agree

00:19:46.180 measures and eventually the major league baseball all-star game was moved out of atlanta even though
00:19:51.300 that's where coca-cola is based out of very smart business move but perhaps the craziest move headed by
00:19:57.460 the now former vp was the diversity requirement for outside counsel when used by coca-cola in a january
00:20:04.420 2021 letter addressed to quote u.s law firms supporting the coca-cola company end quote so
00:20:10.100 basically anyone gayden required a diversity quote of 30 percent for all billed associate and partner
00:20:16.340 time from any of the following races and quote and of such amounts at least half will be from black
00:20:23.300 attorneys very very progressive as you can imagine if law firms didn't comply with their diversity
00:20:29.140 demands they would actually pay them less not sure how that's allowed now this combined with
00:20:34.340 a multi-year battle with the irs that could see a possible 12 billion dollar tax bill coke is
00:20:39.540 having their worst decline since 1940s yes not even post-world war ii sales can help them now
00:20:46.500 don't worry though gayden will still get 12 million dollars over the next year from his early
00:20:50.180 resignation but it may take a bit longer for coca-cola to get its reputation back well what a
00:20:55.780 wacky wacky world we live in a folks a few decades ago south africa was a pariah in the view of most
00:21:03.300 nations and justifiably so given its racial apartheid policy but these days the same people who lambasted
00:21:12.580 south africa as a racist regime now embrace their own sort of apartheid when it comes to
00:21:20.260 essentially showing favoritism to anyone who isn't white sorry that just does not compute

00:22:07.620 one of the diversity initiatives that really went wrong david so any law firm that coca-cola works
00:22:12.980 with has to have a 30 diversity quota which is this is what the lawyer wanted so any uh partner or any
00:22:19.300 lawyer they had to be part of a firm that had at least 30 percent all these different races whether
00:22:23.620 it was native even disabled lgbtq so any identity that they wanted had to be represented by 30 in
00:22:31.140 that company and if they didn't have that diversity quota david they would pay them less so i don't know
00:22:36.020 how that's allowed but they actually were demanding that these law firms adhere to their diversity
00:22:41.300 quotas if they wanted to work with them well i would suggest that's illegal you're being paid
00:22:45.620 less based on race i mean that used to happen in the bad old days you know when uh you would have
00:22:52.820 uh people from racialized communities uh not being paid the same as white people and we don't want to
00:23:00.260 go back to those days again but it looks like in the name of social justice andrew we are reverting back
00:23:06.420 it's almost as though this kind of race policy is for lack of a better uh term uh politically correct
00:23:15.540 apartheid well you'll see how much they regret it and how much money they've had to pay this man out
00:23:20.660 for resigning 12 million dollars in less than one year the rest of 2021 i imagine i'm not sure if it's
00:23:26.740 a fiscal year but they owe him 12 million dollars they're going to be paying him in one lump sum and a
00:23:30.660 bunch of further payments because he was also at the spearhead of the initiative to boycott georgia
00:23:37.220 boycott atlanta which of course resulted famously in the major league baseball all-star game being
00:23:42.500 moved from atlanta to colorado which is really weird because coca-cola is based out of atlanta
00:23:48.820 that's the head office yeah so they're literally driving business away and has to be thousands of
00:23:54.980 cans or bottles of coca-cola at this all-star game being purchased so they're driving business
00:23:59.780 away from their own city um to make a point that clearly didn't make any sense at all because if
00:24:05.300 you actually look into the voter id laws it's just providing id in order to vote they've extended hours
00:24:11.620 in some places they didn't want uh what's the word when you try to appeal to people at the voting booth
00:24:17.860 i don't remember the word but the democrats tried to twist this by saying they're banning people from
00:24:23.780 bringing water to people who are voting in line when the actual thing is you're not allowed to go and speak
00:24:29.220 and uh petition voters in a lineup by speaking to them and persuading them that sort of thing you
00:24:33.620 know and what you um described andrew in terms of major league baseball shows you the appalling
00:24:39.700 hypocrisy of the the woke movement which is to say if we had baseball going on right now at the sky
00:24:47.220 dome and i wanted to go to get uh watch a blue jays game and if i made a phone order to pick up the
00:24:53.300 tickets at the will call booth i can't just say hey i'm david menzies give me my tickets they go
00:24:59.220 can you give us some id exactly what uh they were talking about for georgia election so it's racist
00:25:06.900 to ask a person for id to vote in an election but it's not racist to ask them for their id to pick
00:25:14.820 up some lousy baseball tickets yeah and i think this one really backfired the whole initiative by
00:25:19.620 lebron james and these companies going against the georgia georgia voting laws because they were just
00:25:24.020 relying on people not looking into it at all yeah and i've seen countless videos now of people
00:25:28.900 asking left-leaning individuals black people democrat voters if they think it's racist and
00:25:33.620 they do not because people obviously understand you need id for everything else so this one has really
00:25:38.180 backfired and just like other companies we've covered before like red bull like goodyear tires
00:25:44.580 this initiative has really backfired the only company i think it's actually worked for is nike and
00:25:48.740 maybe that's just because of where their advertising lies even though there's the wild hypocrisy of
00:25:53.140 getting everything made in china uh most companies have had to backtrack on these stances as soon as
00:25:58.980 it gets exposed to the public what their stances are and their rules are for example good years was
00:26:03.220 you can't wear a mega hat there you can wear blm i i remember that commentary and again it's more
00:26:09.540 hypocrisy um if good yes a private company uh and you of course can have a dress code but if you're saying
00:26:17.860 uh no to a mega hat and yes to a blm t-shirt um that's inconsistent it should be while you're on
00:26:25.140 duty you cannot wear any kind of haberdashery that has a political statement but they didn't do that
00:26:30.980 they said some political statements are okay and some are not there is actually a tech company out
00:26:36.500 right now and glenn beck did a story on this which i saw recently so show to get glenn beck a tech company
00:26:42.740 put out a notice to their uh their employee base and said if you guys want to talk about politics
00:26:48.500 if you want to be political at work if you want us to take a political stance we're not going to do it
00:26:53.060 this is a tech company we're not taking political sides and this is how it's going to be and over a
00:26:58.260 hundred employees walked off their jobs they just left so that's an interesting way of how a company
00:27:03.700 can weed out the people who are going to be most angry isn't that yeah exactly so they kind of because
00:27:08.580 if you're just firing people for doing this stuff you could be subject to lawsuits you could be
00:27:12.580 subject to discrimination and people and bad pr of course but if you're just telling them we're not
00:27:17.380 gonna you know bend the knee to blm or or support biden or even support republicans and they just walk
00:27:23.780 out on their own then you pretty much get away with it i'm going to look into that story that is
00:27:27.620 fascinating uh last question andrew uh when it comes to corporations the bottom line is indeed the
00:27:35.060 bottom line which is you know their their balance sheet and i'm thinking that the unspoken strategy
00:27:42.900 against this wokeism that coca-cola embraced they thought this would get mass acceptance they thought
00:27:49.780 they would get a buy-in uh that sales of their soda would go up because that is their prime directive to
00:27:56.100 generate sales um it didn't happen that way um and i'm wondering if this is a cautionary tale
00:28:03.140 for other corporations that if you're going to do this wokeism uh to reach out uh to the insane
00:28:11.140 fringe out there that thinks that yeah this new age racism is a good idea maybe they're not going
00:28:17.780 to go this route given what happened to coca-cola yeah new age and groovy everybody there's a lot of
00:28:23.380 facets that went into this coca-cola decision they have a large lawsuit with the irs right now that
00:28:28.820 people are speculating they're going to lose which will cost them billions of dollars and on top of
00:28:32.420 that because of worldwide restrictions on shipping with covid their distribution of coca-cola products
