00:00:00.000 Hillary Kennedy is a former sports broadcaster and host making appearances on shows like Access
00:00:11.100 Hollywood, Extra and Rachel Ray. She now hosts the four minute buzz on the Blaze Network. Thanks
00:00:16.820 for joining me, Hillary. How are you? I'm doing great, Andrew. Thanks so much for inviting me on.
00:00:21.720 No problem. Now, the first thing I wanted to ask you is what made you want to transition
00:00:25.900 from sports and entertainment to the world of news? Or have you always been into it? Because
00:00:30.760 when I was going back and looking at some of your other stuff, I think I've seen you mention that you
00:00:36.260 love MMA. I know you did soccer related work. And there's something else I'm missing in there. But
00:00:43.040 what made you want to transition? Or have you always been involved in news?
00:00:47.460 You know, I've always been an avid news watcher. I specifically tried not to get involved with hard
00:00:54.500 news when I started my career, because I did have such a passion for sports and entertainment.
00:00:59.100 But there's something about where we are today that really made me go, well, wait a second.
00:01:04.660 I'm not sure I can rely on what I'm hearing from the news media outlets, because I worked on a morning
00:01:10.100 news show that had a lot of entertainment and lifestyle stuff. But we also covered the hard
00:01:16.200 news of the day as well. And I started seeing how bits and pieces of the main facts were being left out
00:01:22.880 of news stories. And it was truly the first time in my life where I thought, well, wait a second,
00:01:28.200 they're leaving out some of the meat of this story. And it completely changes the narrative.
00:01:32.500 And it was the first time that I realized, am I contributing to this in some way working here?
00:01:37.860 And I started to really analyze what I was saying, what was being put out there. And I wanted to be
00:01:43.020 part of news media that I felt like was trying their absolute best to tell the truth. And so that's how I
00:01:49.080 ended up here. I'm sure that story can go for a lot of people, including myself,
00:01:54.640 given my previous career. There's so much going on. The border is a mess. And that's where I want
00:01:59.800 to start. There's a video from a few days ago about clearing the mass amount of migrants from
00:02:04.680 under a bridge. And I think it's Del Rio, Texas. They've now been cleared. And I just want to play
00:02:09.300 this news clip. It goes to a bit of what you're saying, how I think we're just glossing over a lot
00:02:14.540 of the strong storylines here that we need to be addressing. So let's go ahead and play that clip,
00:02:20.320 guys, please. Tonight, the camp that was once packed with 15,000 migrants gone. Bulldozers working
00:02:27.740 to clear the remnants near the bridge. There are no longer any migrants in the camp. The Homeland
00:02:33.260 Security Secretary now detailing where the migrants have gone. The majority from the camp, over 12,000
00:02:40.100 released into the U.S. and asked to go to immigration centers to make asylum claims.
00:02:45.520 2,000 were deported to Haiti and 8,000 migrants returned voluntarily to Mexico.
00:02:52.020 Like Jean and his wife, Jessica, now crossing back, fearing deportation.
00:02:56.880 He says he's decided to come back and stay in Mexico because he's scared that they might send them
00:03:01.720 back to Haiti. They'll join hundreds still sleeping across the Rio Grande in Ciudad Acuna.
00:03:07.060 Men, women, and families with children now under growing pressure to relocate away from the border.
00:03:13.700 Meanwhile, President Biden addressing those images of Border Patrol agents on horseback.
00:03:18.800 An investigation is ongoing.
00:03:21.020 Now, I'm interested to point out that they had to include the part of the video of the guy
00:03:24.500 changing his pants. That was an interesting part there. But Hillary...
00:03:28.740 Kind of an invasion of privacy.
00:03:29.900 Yeah, a little bit. We have all these people being, you know, commuted out of from under there.
00:03:35.300 I think for optics reason, it was a bad story for the administration.
00:03:39.340 But now we're expecting them all to voluntarily, or at least 12,000, I think,
00:03:44.220 voluntarily report to immigration centers across the country.
00:03:47.120 I know there's videos of them being flying, being flown out to all over the country.
00:03:51.860 Can we expect people to actually report to immigration centers and just on good faith?
00:03:57.160 Oh, absolutely not. And I think, too, for the few that do, how many of those judges are going to
00:04:04.920 send those, that small percentage of people back and turn them away because they did actually follow
00:04:09.600 the rules and do the right thing? I'm sure a lot of those people will be allowed to stay as well.
00:04:13.880 I think that what's going on there is not only sad for the people who are believing that they can
00:04:19.320 come into our country and stay indefinitely, but for all of the people that live in those border
00:04:23.680 towns, so many of them are fearing for their safety because they have all of these illegal
00:04:29.240 immigrants crossing onto their land, many of them with weapons. A lot of them are people who are on
00:04:35.280 the run from their own governments, murderers, rapists, that kind of thing. And so it's a sad
00:04:39.240 story all the way around. And we really aren't hearing from those people as much as I think we
00:04:44.300 should, the people who live there at the border and whose lives are being negatively affected.
00:04:48.500 And it's just going to be a trickle down, you know, from what's happening to them. It will
00:04:51.760 soon be happening to all the rest of us as they just set people free and allow them to roam
00:04:56.380 throughout the country. You know, they say they're sending so many people back, but they really
00:05:00.040 aren't telling us about how many thousands and thousands of people they are just busing or flying
00:05:04.760 to other parts of the country.
00:05:06.580 Yeah, it's interesting you say that because the math in that very report didn't make any sense. I wrote
00:05:10.980 it down. 12,000 being led into the country, 2,000 being deported, and 8,000 are going to Mexico. So
00:05:17.580 already we've gone up to 22,000, which is, and they said there's 15,000 underneath the bridge.
00:05:23.500 The bigger question I think here is how did so many Haitian migrants get to the U.S.-Mexico border
00:05:28.620 all at once? Do we have an answer to this question?
00:05:32.000 You know, I don't know the answer to that question. And what I keep hearing from many different sources
00:05:36.600 is it's not just Haitians. You know, we're going to be seeing a lot more Nicaraguans and people from
00:05:41.160 all of these other countries, even from the Middle East, that are making their way here because they keep
00:05:45.500 hearing how lax the rules are, that we're just kind of giving people a free pass and saying,
00:05:50.540 well, you're not supposed to be here, but they just can't control what's going on. They have
00:05:55.620 absolutely lost control of the situation. And it's quite frankly, very scary. And I think something
00:06:02.560 else that isn't being addressed, too, it's not just people that are coming in, but it's
00:06:08.160 thousands and thousands of pounds of drugs like fentanyl that have been funneled into our country since
00:06:13.760 the beginning of the year. And that's also terribly frightening. I mean, it's enough
00:06:17.740 opioids and fentanyl, things like that, to kill millions of Americans. And that's also flowing
00:06:22.880 freely. Yeah, it's been a terrible, terrible run situation by this administration. Two months in
00:06:29.960 the summer, back-to-back consecutive records for migrants crossing the border, which is always,
00:06:35.480 you know, it's always a difficult situation. But when you're setting records like that negatively,
00:06:39.380 I don't think people can look away from it. Now, the press secretary I want to talk about,
00:06:44.080 Jen Psaki, lover, hater. I think the press secretary job is always a very divisive position. But I think
00:06:50.340 she's objectively not as good as her predecessor, Kayleigh McEnany. And I think about clips that I
00:06:55.620 want to show you regarding things she said, like testing at the border. I think these are things we
00:07:01.040 can point to where, you know, people used to make fun of Kayleigh for having this binder full of
00:07:05.540 answers with tabs on them. At least she's giving you answers that are straightforward. Whereas I
00:07:10.440 think we can show this clip now where I don't think it makes, I don't think there's any way to,
00:07:14.940 you know, wordsmith it into something that makes sense. To our national security team and see what
00:07:20.740 that process will look like. And then the question about what's going on at the border, is somebody
00:07:23.820 asking the foreign nationals who are walking into Del Rio, Texas and setting up camps on this side of
00:07:29.340 the border for proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test? Well, first of all, I can readdress for
00:07:38.460 you or re-talk you through what steps we take. That is the policy for people who fly into the
00:07:43.280 country. So if somebody walks into the country, right across the river, does somebody ask them to
00:07:49.240 see their vaccination card? Well, let me explain to you again, Peter, how our process works. As
00:07:56.000 individuals, as individuals come across the border, and they are both assessed for whether they have
00:08:02.920 any symptoms. If they have symptoms, they are, the intention is for them to be quarantined. That is
00:08:08.740 our process. They're not intending to stay here for a lengthy period of time. I don't think it's the
00:08:13.160 same thing. It's not the same thing. These are individuals, as we've noted and as we've been
00:08:17.920 discussed, we are expelling individuals based on Title 42, specifically because of COVID, because we want
00:08:24.500 to prevent a scenario where large numbers of people are gathering, posing a threat to the community and
00:08:29.460 also to the migrants themselves. So those are the policies that we put in place, in large part,
00:08:35.540 because, again, the CDC continues to recommend Title 42 be in place, given we're facing a global
00:08:41.020 pandemic. So again, we have 10,000 out of 22,000 who are being deported, less than half. We're not
00:08:47.320 testing these people at the border. She says they're not going to stay long enough to be tested,
00:08:50.660 even though we just saw that 12,000 were released into this country. Is there any way to explain our
00:08:56.700 way through here? Because let me paint a picture of what I'm thinking. I'm thinking, obviously,
00:09:00.640 she can't sit there and say, no, this is a double standard. This doesn't make any sense. What would
00:09:05.640 I say if I'm in her position? Do you think this just comes down to having an honest policy, or is
00:09:10.960 there something here that I'm just missing? Well, I think you're right, Andrew. I mean,
00:09:15.980 the sad thing is, whenever Jen Psaki first took this role, you can look back at some of her old
00:09:21.540 tweets, and she was talking about how excited she was to bring back honesty and transparency to the
00:09:27.080 White House. And we're still waiting on that, apparently. Because, yeah, it makes absolutely
00:09:33.040 no sense. What is the difference between you coming to visit me here in Dallas, Texas, and someone
00:09:39.640 running across the border and not planning to stay for longer than a few days, a few weeks? There's
00:09:44.140 absolutely no difference. It's ridiculous that we can't get any straight answers from
00:09:48.820 her. And I'm ashamed because she's a fellow redhead. I was expecting more from her. I want
00:09:54.540 to support you, Jen Psaki, because you're a fellow ginger, but you're really letting me down in every
00:09:58.460 possible way. Unbelievable, Jen Psaki. Now, I think the reason that people want to point out these
00:10:05.120 double standards, and that's Peter Doocy from Fox, who does a good job, I think, at least, let's say,
00:10:10.280 80% of the time, he's doing a good job. Got to leave room for improvement for everybody.
00:10:15.440 But I think people are hoping that these hypocritical policies where, you know, illegal immigrant doesn't
00:10:20.800 have to follow the rules that a citizen has to, I think they're hoping that they don't turn into
00:10:24.200 the more restrictive policies that the government just doesn't have to explain. And what I'm getting
00:10:28.940 at is what's happening in Australia. They've gone to the point where restrictions don't have to make
00:10:34.180 any sense. The government can come out and say whatever they want, and you have to follow it.
00:10:38.200 Grandmothers are being pepper sprayed. SWAT teams are being released on construction workers.
00:10:42.680 So I want to play a clip from one of our reporters, Avi Yamini, our chief Australia reporter,
00:10:46.960 and get your reaction from that. Let's go ahead and play that.
00:10:48.800 This is what's happening.
00:11:01.780 This is for our health in Melbourne, live now.
00:11:08.200 They've separated the groups, firing tear gas. It just suddenly kicked off. There are hundreds
00:11:17.160 of riot police now. The crowd has separated. Half have gone that way, the other half in there.
00:11:27.680 Yep. Come out of the way. And we've just seen what has unfolded here, where riot police in an
00:11:38.360 armoured vehicle that they have not deployed till now in protest. In fact, I've covered protests here
00:11:44.020 for years and haven't seen that. That was meant to be counter-terrorism, I believe. And now they are
00:11:49.560 marching towards the crowd again to engage them, unprovoked. There was zero violence from protesters.
00:12:00.900 Let's make that clear. There was no violence from protesters.
00:12:15.860 Now, in other reports, Hillary, on yemenireport.com, which is Avi's website there,
00:12:20.480 BLM supporters are saying, well, now you understand, but also this isn't the right cause. What do you
00:12:27.120 say to an argument like that where it's, you know, BLM gets different coverage because, you know,
00:12:31.580 it's a good protest for the right reasons, but a protest against losing our rights, literally calling
00:12:36.980 construction workers Nazis. What's your thinking of this, again, a media double standard?
00:12:42.020 It makes me sick, honestly. It makes me sick to my stomach because I feel like what we're seeing is
00:12:47.740 only the beginning. You know, if this is allowed to go on in Australia, it's just going to spread
00:12:52.300 to other places. And I feel like it's going to be coming to other places like Canada, the United States
00:12:56.320 a lot more quickly than we even anticipate. But it makes me sick to see the way that people are being
00:13:02.920 treated. And I think that when Australians voluntarily gave up their guns several years ago, this is what
00:13:10.400 it's led to. They have no way to defend themselves. They were peacefully protesting and being treated
00:13:16.060 so violently. And it's horrific to watch. I mean, you can listen to some of the sound bites of the
00:13:20.820 military personnel and they're saying, hey, we're just doing our jobs. Well, I mean, there were
00:13:25.840 Nazi guards that said the exact same thing during the Holocaust. So it's horrible to see people's
00:13:31.640 freedoms being taken away and they feel so helpless. I have a couple of friends that live in Australia
00:13:36.920 and it has been heartbreaking to watch how depressed and hopeless they felt over the past year. Many of
00:13:45.660 them now taking antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication because they just can't remember what
00:13:51.800 life was like when it was normal anymore, because this has been going on so long and getting to be
00:13:55.920 so much worse. Yeah. And you guys have other Australian commentators at blaze like Sydney Watson. I know
00:14:02.780 that give a good perspective on that. And I agree with you. A lot of this has gotten out of hand to
00:14:07.280 the point where, you know, sometimes you have to think is comparing this to like Nazism, even though
00:14:12.240 that's what they're calling the protesters, is comparing this to these fascistic governments fair.
00:14:17.240 And I think, you know, when we're calling Trump a fascist three years ago or whatever, it's too far when
00:14:22.060 you're calling even maybe BLM or Antifa riots Nazis. I think that might be, you know, an unfair comparison.
00:14:29.460 But we've gotten to this point where what is the line? And I ask this all the time on on things I
00:14:34.020 comment on TV shows. Where is the line where we can stop saying, you know, I'm just doing my job? Is it
00:14:39.860 we're 18 months into restrictions now? Is it three years? Is it 10 years? Is it when we become a colony
00:14:45.100 of China? What is the point where we're allowed to say to police officers in Australia, I'm just doing
00:14:50.780 my job is no longer a valid excuse? I think that moment has come and passed now. And I hope to see more
00:14:56.320 people like there's another video, there's a cop saying, I am just doing this to feed my family.
00:15:00.340 And I agree with you, but he's still doing it. So I think maybe the tides are turning
00:15:04.000 a little bit on that, just to give my own two cents there. Another place people are giving,
00:15:08.900 you know, some pushback is the NBA. And I wanted to talk about this with you because I know you love
00:15:13.300 sports. We have some of the biggest star power in people who are against mandatory vaccinations in
00:15:19.460 players like Jonathan Isaac, Bradley Beal, Kyrie Irving and Andrew Wiggins. The latter two are
00:15:26.160 some of the biggest stars. And I want to play for you what Andrew Wiggins said when he was asked
00:15:31.080 why he won't just explain his beliefs to the press pool in Golden State there.
00:15:35.920 Vince, what's the reason for not just explaining what you believe?
00:15:42.480 It's none of your business. That's what it comes down to, you know. I don't ask you guys what your
00:15:48.480 beliefs. I don't ask you guys what you think is right or wrong. You know, we're different people.
00:15:53.100 Now, Isaac and Beal are going more in-depth routes in explaining what they mean. But do you think it's
00:15:59.440 fair that these journalists are now, you know, asking vaccination status and medical history?
00:16:05.480 Why are you making this medical decision? Yeah, I don't think it's fair. In fact,
00:16:10.280 I just had this conversation with someone the other day because I have a lot of friends that live in LA
00:16:14.080 and work as actors. And they are now being required when they submit an audition, whether in person or
00:16:20.380 virtually, they are asked to declare what their vaccination status is when they audition for a
00:16:25.660 project. Well, what are the odds that they are going to book that job if they say they're
00:16:30.620 unvaccinated? I mean, asking those sorts of questions used to be complete taboo. What you do
00:16:35.980 with your own body, what you've put in your own body is your own personal business. And so I applaud
00:16:39.860 these athletes for standing up and saying, hey, I don't owe you any answers about that. You know,
00:16:44.480 you ask me anything you want to about the game, about my teammates, you know, things that are
00:16:48.900 relevant. But I just don't see how someone's personal health history is relevant.
00:16:54.180 Now, San Francisco said they won't grant a special exemption for him. I believe that's Andrew
00:16:59.540 Wiggins from the Golden State Warriors. Kyrie Irving is in Brooklyn. And so the basically they're
00:17:04.500 debating whether or not they should trade these players or, you know, keep them and they're missing
00:17:08.800 out on half of their home games. Do you think the NBA sorts of takes a step back or do you think
00:17:14.440 they're going to start granting exemptions? How do you see this playing out?
00:17:18.380 I think it's in their best interest to grant these exemptions and let people have their own
00:17:23.340 personal liberties. But as we've seen over the past year and a half or so, major league sports
00:17:30.340 hasn't always made the best decisions when it comes to these sorts of things. They've lost a lot
00:17:34.040 of fans, a lot of viewership. So they may double down. I don't know. I hope that they don't. I hope
00:17:39.220 they let people continue to just live their lives, play sports and not get political.
00:17:44.220 I don't know if that's going to happen. As I'm sure you're aware, Black Americans are among the
00:17:48.620 least to get vaccinated. Even BLM New York. I spoke with one of them recently. They're against
00:17:52.820 a vaccine passport. What are your thoughts on that? How are you taking that enemy of my enemy
00:17:57.160 situation? I don't know how else to describe it. What's your take on BLM, you know, getting support
00:18:03.180 from right-wing sources about standing out against vaccine passports?
00:18:07.040 That's kind of an interesting turn of events, isn't it? I definitely think that when we keep
00:18:13.560 having these conversations about racism and discrimination, if you've got a large group
00:18:18.360 of people, you know, groups of color who have decided that they do not want to get the jab,
00:18:24.240 to be able to force them in places like New York or San Francisco to not be able to eat at a restaurant
00:18:28.960 or go to an event, that is blatant discrimination right there. So I think it's very interesting that,
00:18:35.960 you know, a year ago it was such a different mentality, but now these people are public
00:18:41.580 enemy number one. It is just a, it's like you can't make this stuff up. Every day it's something
00:18:46.740 different that contradicts what we've been told, you know, six days prior, six weeks prior. It's,
00:18:52.040 it's absolutely ridiculous. But I do think it is discrimination for sure to, to not allow anyone,
00:18:57.320 no matter what color they are, to not live their life if they're unvaccinated.
00:19:01.980 Yes. It, it takes a right-wing news and BLM to explain to people what civil rights are in 2021.
00:19:08.660 It's a crazy time. That's right. You brought up a very serious topic on another show recently.
00:19:14.100 I want to show this clip of what you said, and I want to get your follow-up on the thoughts you
00:19:18.300 expressed here. My anger towards the people that developed these emojis started a long time ago,
00:19:22.940 because they had every hair color except the redheads until like two years ago. We are a very
00:19:29.380 underrepresented group. Wow. Yeah. So we do finally have some redhead emojis, but it took them long
00:19:34.680 enough. So you are a victim of the society, this dark hair and blonde, uh, patriarchy.
00:19:40.700 It's true. That's keeping you down. I think we got an answer to your question. My question before of
00:19:45.920 who your hero is in the ginger community, but I hear these things all the time, Hillary. I have
00:19:49.920 two ginger close friends. Uh, we can't go out in the sun. Uh, people can't see our eyebrows. We
00:19:55.140 love orange soda. Um, I want to ask you who your ginger ginger hero is between the following Chuck
00:20:01.500 Norris, Conan O'Brien or, and Ed Sheeran. You have to choose one. Oh, Chuck Norris by far. I mean,
00:20:08.900 he is the ultimate American hero. Uh, but yeah, there are very few of us. And I would like to point out
00:20:15.140 that you only mentioned male gingers, whereas female gingers, I feel like we are always portrayed
00:20:22.540 in movies and TV shows as the psycho or the murderer. It's always the crazy one. Some of us
00:20:28.960 are very normal. Is it wrong or? Uh, I mean, my husband might tell you that spot on, but there
00:20:34.960 were some examples in there. There was, um, Adele, I think was one on there, but these weren't the
00:20:39.860 ones that I, that I wanted to list. There was, um, what's her name? Emma Stone was one on this list
00:20:45.980 that I saw, but I had to go. I, I love Conan O'Brien. I couldn't ignore him. Chuck Norris.
00:20:50.500 I mean, you chose him. You can go off the board if you want to go with, uh, Jen Psaki. I won't hate
00:20:55.140 you for it. You know, I, I will say about Jen Psaki, I respect anyone who has the bravery to do that job
00:21:02.540 to be the press secretary is a really, really tough job. I could never do it. So I do respect that she
00:21:08.140 has stepped up and taken it on. I wouldn't call her my hero, uh, by any stretch of the imagination,
00:21:13.300 but, uh, I do get basically any redheaded celebrity. Someone will say, do you know who
00:21:18.500 you look like? So I get a lot of Amy Adams or, uh, Isla Fisher that was in Wedding Crashers. I get
00:21:24.640 a lot of that, but we're not all totally crazy. I mean, maybe just a little bit crazy, but not
00:21:29.200 completely. All right. I'll keep that in mind for whoever my next ginger guest is. I'm gonna have
00:21:33.700 to look back in the archives and see if I've had any other ginger guests. Hillary, thank
00:21:37.940 you for coming on. Thank you for joking with me and being serious with me. Anything else
00:21:41.780 you want to say in closing to this Canadian audience that loves you? Can I just say that
00:21:46.420 Canadians are some of my favorite people in the world. I went on a flight, uh, from Dallas
00:21:51.660 to Toronto, fell asleep on the flight. And the lady next to me who was a Canadian was flying
00:21:56.840 home. She woke, when I woke up, she tapped me on the shoulder and said, you were sleeping
00:22:00.960 when they brought around the snack cart. So I got you a snack and a drink. Cause I thought
00:22:04.400 you might wake up and be hungry or thirsty. And that was the first moment that I realized
00:22:08.620 Canadians, nicest, kindest people in the world. And I have loved every Canadian I've ever met.
00:22:14.720 I will accept your generalization. Hillary Kennedy on the blaze every morning. Thanks for joining
00:22:20.340 me. Have a great day. Thanks a lot. You too. Thank you, Andrew.
