00:00:00.000 Hello, my Rebels, and I hope you're having a good Christmas time.
00:00:04.360 Hopefully you're having a chance to take a break from a busy year,
00:00:07.200 or maybe you're still on staycation and have been for many months.
00:00:10.920 Either way, it's a pleasure to have you listen to the podcast.
00:00:14.320 Over the days ahead, we have the best of The Rebel,
00:00:17.840 compilations of some of our favorite videos this past year.
00:00:21.720 I hope you enjoy them.
00:00:22.760 We'll be back with original programming very early in the new year,
00:00:26.060 but I think a lot of these videos you're about to hear today and the next few days
00:00:31.160 may well be new to you because they were on our YouTube channel,
00:00:35.620 but they were not on my show, The Ezra LeVant Show.
00:00:38.540 So I hope you enjoy these because I think most of them may be new for you,
00:00:42.760 and they're really some of our best work.
00:00:44.280 So without further ado, here are the best of The Rebels shows from 2020.
00:00:51.260 And just in closing, let me invite you to become a Rebel News Plus subscriber.
00:00:55.100 You get the video version of these shows.
00:00:59.060 The podcast is great, but seeing the visuals,
00:01:02.020 especially in some of our most dramatic coverage, really makes a difference.
00:01:05.040 Just go to rebelnews.com, click subscribe.
00:01:07.380 It's eight bucks a month.
00:01:08.220 As you know, we don't take a dime from Trudeau.
00:01:10.520 So this is how we rely on you, frankly.
00:01:13.740 Okay, here's today's show.
00:01:19.980 You're listening to a Rebel News Podcast.
00:01:25.100 Tonight, businesses that have decided they've got nothing to lose
00:01:34.020 and are willing to declare, they will open.
00:01:37.320 It's Christmas Day, and this is The Ezra LeVant Show.
00:01:40.480 Why should others go to jail when you're a biggest carbon consumer I know?
00:01:46.540 There's 8,500 customers here, and you won't give them an answer.
00:01:50.600 The only thing I have to say to the government about why I'm publishing it
00:01:54.260 is because it's my bloody right to do so.
00:01:56.480 It's hard to be in business, especially a retail business,
00:02:05.080 when you're competing against the big box stores
00:02:07.460 and increasingly against Amazon.com.
00:02:10.400 It's hard to be in the restaurant business.
00:02:12.260 Most restaurants don't make it.
00:02:13.980 You're on your feet all day.
00:02:15.100 You've got to watch the till, watch shrinkage,
00:02:17.600 staff eating the profits.
00:02:19.040 What a tough job.
00:02:20.340 And then to be the target of these brutal lockdowns,
00:02:24.420 even though it's shown that so few of the pandemic virus spreads
00:02:29.860 come from restaurants or gyms.
00:02:32.460 It's just not there.
00:02:33.480 I think it's politicians seeking a scapegoat,
00:02:36.400 or maybe it's the opposite.
00:02:37.540 It's maybe the big stores like Costco and Walmart and Amazon
00:02:41.400 can afford to hire the lobbyists,
00:02:44.200 but the mom and pop shops can't.
00:02:45.640 So we have a series called I Will Open.
00:02:50.060 These are storekeepers, shopkeepers, restauranteurs
00:02:52.900 who have said, I've got nothing less to lose.
00:02:55.300 I'm going to go out of business anyways.
00:02:56.880 10,000 restaurants in Canada alone have shut down.
00:03:00.460 So we have a series called I Will Open.
00:03:02.940 These are people in Canada and in other places around the world
00:03:05.860 who have said, we simply must stay open.
00:03:09.160 And those who are with us, please come and shop.
00:03:12.160 Don't keep doing business with Amazon.
00:03:13.780 I'm very proud of the work we've done with our I Will Open series.
00:03:18.360 And that's the subject of today's year in review.
00:03:20.920 Take a look.
00:03:22.040 A Berwick shop owner has today defied lockdown restrictions
00:03:25.480 in Victoria by opening his clothing store to the public.
00:03:29.140 Harry Hutchinson told me that he has no choice
00:03:31.680 but to open his business or to go under.
00:03:34.840 Police were on the scene when I arrived
00:03:36.460 and indicated to the small business owner
00:03:38.300 that he might be issued with a $9,913 fine
00:03:43.100 for opening against the Chief Health Officer's direction.
00:03:46.580 So staff that you've got on today, just an old mate there?
00:03:50.440 Yeah.
00:03:50.840 Just the one?
00:03:52.020 Yes.
00:03:52.580 You obviously know why we're here.
00:03:54.120 Yes, I do know why you're here and you've got to do your job.
00:03:56.480 All right.
00:03:56.980 So very simple.
00:03:58.460 I'll just let you know, you don't have to say or do anything.
00:04:00.280 Anything you say or do may be recorded and given in evidence.
00:04:02.400 Yeah, sure.
00:04:02.860 Do you understand that?
00:04:03.740 Yeah.
00:04:04.140 I just want to ask you what your reason is
00:04:05.500 for breaching the Chief Health Officer's directive.
00:04:07.720 Easy to survive and to get all small businesses to survive.
00:04:12.460 I'm the voice for small business.
00:04:14.820 And this is my action.
00:04:16.940 And I realise that we can't open, but enough is enough.
00:04:22.940 And, you know, I'm sure if you weren't wearing that uniform,
00:04:25.420 you'd be supporting me.
00:04:27.080 All right.
00:04:27.480 So I'm happy with your ID.
00:04:29.900 We'll go make some further inquiries.
00:04:31.400 You're the owner of this business.
00:04:32.740 Yes, yes.
00:04:33.200 All right.
00:04:33.840 So you obviously understand the penalties that may apply
00:04:36.160 for these breaches.
00:04:36.400 Yes, I understand.
00:04:36.840 Yep, yep, yep.
00:04:37.780 All right.
00:04:38.560 We'll leave it at that for now.
00:04:40.160 Yep.
00:04:41.780 Listen, I'm going to have to go higher up with this anyway
00:04:43.800 just before we start issuing out any penalty notices.
00:04:46.700 You know, they're obviously quite significant amounts.
00:04:48.700 Yes, I do, yeah.
00:04:49.640 All right.
00:04:50.640 We'll make a couple phone calls,
00:04:51.900 let you know what's going to happen,
00:04:53.680 and then we'll be on our way.
00:04:55.180 Okay.
00:04:55.540 No worries at all.
00:04:56.300 Was this a complaint by a neighbour?
00:04:58.700 No comment.
00:05:00.600 Did you get stuff detailed?
00:05:02.600 Yeah, I've got...
00:05:03.700 Come on.
00:05:04.520 What's your intention from here?
00:05:06.020 Do you intend to stay open for the rest of the day,
00:05:08.620 or are you going to close up?
00:05:10.040 To be honest with you,
00:05:11.020 our stock is depleted, thank God,
00:05:13.660 which means I will survive,
00:05:14.940 and I'll be able to continue my business.
00:05:17.160 In fact, this afternoon,
00:05:18.620 I've got to get on the phone and order new stock.
00:05:20.780 I knew they were coming.
00:05:21.680 You knew they were coming.
00:05:22.480 Yes, yes.
00:05:23.020 So you're obviously taking a stand here.
00:05:25.140 Oh, I am taking a stand,
00:05:26.320 and I'm taking a stand not for Harry's clothing.
00:05:28.920 The stand is for small business.
00:05:30.940 We're totally...
00:05:31.940 It looks like the community supports your...
00:05:38.420 Yeah, yeah, they certainly do.
00:05:40.340 Look, I've had so much support in this business
00:05:43.180 in the last day and a half.
00:05:46.380 I'm humble.
00:05:47.600 If I didn't do this,
00:05:48.760 I felt I wouldn't be reopening on the end date.
00:05:53.060 Now, we don't know what date that might have been.
00:05:56.140 The 19th of October was too late for me.
00:05:59.020 I've got financial commitments,
00:06:00.560 but fortunately,
00:06:01.340 because I've been open the last day and a half,
00:06:03.460 I've cleared those commitments.
00:06:05.000 So I have two shops here,
00:06:06.140 and I've been fortunate to be able to trade
00:06:07.660 throughout the whole time because I have foods,
00:06:10.620 and I just could see the whole hypocrisy of it,
00:06:13.000 mainly because stores that could open,
00:06:15.620 like, for example, a newsagent,
00:06:17.800 were selling clothing out the front,
00:06:19.200 and that's great.
00:06:19.860 That's a great initiative,
00:06:21.000 but the people who have clothing stores,
00:06:23.300 how...
00:06:23.820 It's like a kick in the guts to them.
00:06:25.720 So when I offered about two days ago
00:06:28.880 for Harry to put some clothing
00:06:30.160 out the front of my clothing,
00:06:31.220 out the front of my food shop,
00:06:32.880 and he hesitated to answer,
00:06:34.600 and I thought, OK, he's thinking about it,
00:06:36.640 and that's when he decided to open.
00:06:38.160 I've been working on this particular business
00:06:39.740 for 15 years,
00:06:41.340 and I wasn't prepared to let it go away
00:06:44.420 through no fault of mine
00:06:45.740 and someone who's never been on a benefit,
00:06:48.800 and all of a sudden I'm on benefits,
00:06:50.980 and I'm begging for money to survive.
00:06:53.720 I can't pay rents.
00:06:55.080 I can't pay insurances.
00:06:57.400 I'd rather give it away than have that.
00:07:00.480 You're not worried about...
00:07:01.880 The officer said it's about a $10,000 fine.
00:07:05.260 You're not worried?
00:07:06.900 It could have been a million-dollar fine
00:07:08.440 because that went straight over the top of the head
00:07:10.340 because I'm not paying it,
00:07:12.160 and as soon as I get issued with that fine,
00:07:13.880 I'm going to rip it to pieces.
00:07:15.340 I don't care.
00:07:17.080 You know, I honestly don't care about a fine.
00:07:21.940 And what's your message to other Victorian small businesses
00:07:23.820 that are struggling,
00:07:24.720 that are tossing up between either shut and shop
00:07:27.000 because they just can't afford to keep working
00:07:29.120 or doing what you're doing?
00:07:30.940 What would you say to them?
00:07:31.680 We're not a Nazi state.
00:07:36.000 It's becoming ridiculous out there.
00:07:38.900 We've got to open up the door.
00:07:40.360 If you want to value your business
00:07:41.500 and you want to support your customers
00:07:43.120 who are there to support you,
00:07:45.040 do what I've been doing and open up your door.
00:07:48.360 Listen, if we all did it,
00:07:49.600 there'd be no fines issued
00:07:50.520 because they couldn't cope with it.
00:07:51.800 So I'm urging all small businesses out there,
00:07:54.660 all large businesses,
00:07:56.180 get behind me and open their doors.
00:07:58.980 How many guys do you employ?
00:08:00.460 I've got two employees.
00:08:02.920 And have they worked through this period?
00:08:04.920 The last day and a half,
00:08:06.200 that's their first work since the shutdown.
00:08:08.400 And were they worried to come into work?
00:08:10.480 They needed money.
00:08:12.380 They'll need money.
00:08:13.540 I'll cover their fine anyway.
00:08:15.220 But they need money.
00:08:17.620 How are they going to survive?
00:08:19.040 They're not on JobKeeper.
00:08:20.480 They only get paid for me,
00:08:21.880 for what they work.
00:08:23.360 Sheila Gunn-Reed for Rebel News.
00:08:25.260 It's Saturday morning
00:08:26.540 and I'm in Red Deer, Alberta
00:08:28.240 with Tracy Walker.
00:08:30.260 Tracy's a hairstylist
00:08:31.640 and she's got a terrible story
00:08:34.600 to tell us about how
00:08:36.160 the lockdown is affecting her.
00:08:39.860 Now, we should discuss a little bit
00:08:41.680 about the new lockdown.
00:08:43.400 It's Saturday here.
00:08:45.060 New lockdown measures
00:08:46.220 to deal with the spread
00:08:47.820 of the coronavirus
00:08:48.640 came into effect on Tuesday.
00:08:50.160 Basically, everything is closed
00:08:51.780 except for retail
00:08:54.340 at 15% of fire code
00:08:57.080 and restaurants for takeout.
00:09:00.260 But personal care is closed.
00:09:03.280 Everything.
00:09:04.260 Absolutely everything, yes.
00:09:06.060 And initially,
00:09:07.780 Premier Jason Kenney
00:09:08.600 had applauded your industry
00:09:09.920 for not being responsible
00:09:11.520 for any cases of transmission.
00:09:15.160 And yet in the new lockdown measures,
00:09:17.460 you're completely closed.
00:09:18.900 Now, you reached out to me
00:09:20.460 through our IWillOpen.com portal
00:09:24.080 where we invite businesses
00:09:26.120 who will defy
00:09:28.360 the new lockdown measures
00:09:29.720 to get in touch with us
00:09:30.780 so we can tell your story
00:09:32.980 about why you're doing this
00:09:34.720 and why you feel as though
00:09:36.020 you were left with no choice
00:09:37.540 to invite a fine
00:09:39.880 just to try to keep
00:09:41.680 your business afloat.
00:09:43.000 Tracy, tell us your story.
00:09:45.200 Well, actually,
00:09:46.380 it started with the first lockdown
00:09:48.220 when we had,
00:09:51.780 we have a mortgage,
00:09:53.500 a mortgage through
00:09:55.380 a mortgage broker
00:09:56.200 versus a credit union
00:09:58.160 or a bank.
00:09:59.600 And so when we were mandated
00:10:01.780 to shut down,
00:10:03.140 I had to phone my company
00:10:05.120 and ask them if they,
00:10:07.700 or my mortgage broker company,
00:10:09.220 that they could please
00:10:11.140 do the mortgage deferral.
00:10:12.760 And they had informed me
00:10:14.100 that that doesn't apply to them
00:10:15.600 because they are a broker,
00:10:19.220 not, like I said,
00:10:20.540 a bank or a credit union.
00:10:21.780 So they don't apply.
00:10:23.380 And I said,
00:10:23.820 well, there's got to be
00:10:24.820 something that we could do
00:10:26.260 because I am completely shut down
00:10:28.520 and I have no means of,
00:10:30.680 I either pay you
00:10:31.960 and I don't eat
00:10:32.920 or I'm a diabetic as well.
00:10:35.040 So I wouldn't have,
00:10:36.060 be able to afford my medicine
00:10:37.280 or I pay the mortgage
00:10:39.580 and I wouldn't even have enough
00:10:41.300 to completely pay the mortgage
00:10:43.420 with what I was making.
00:10:45.100 So the first lockdown
00:10:46.460 knocked my clientele.
00:10:48.800 I'm going to say,
00:10:50.280 I don't know where they went
00:10:52.900 and I don't know what happened,
00:10:54.080 but it probably was close
00:10:56.640 to at least a half
00:10:57.980 of where I was before.
00:11:00.700 And so with this mortgage,
00:11:04.000 they, she said that
00:11:06.540 because it doesn't apply to them,
00:11:07.960 all the fines and fees
00:11:09.140 will be, be accumulated,
00:11:11.360 that there is no,
00:11:12.720 they're not taking off
00:11:13.760 any, anything to help in any way.
00:11:15.860 I was fined $250 a month
00:11:18.540 being it that for non-payment
00:11:20.740 and then $92.94 a day
00:11:24.300 for, for, um, I guess,
00:11:29.340 you know, failure to pay,
00:11:31.300 I guess it's a penalty per day
00:11:33.040 that you're late.
00:11:34.860 Um, so at the end of the month,
00:11:37.340 it was already $3,000
00:11:38.860 just with that than the $250.
00:11:41.220 So $32.50 was what I was,
00:11:44.820 I had to pay on top
00:11:46.580 of my mortgage payment
00:11:47.720 and they gave me 10 days to do it.
00:11:50.540 And I said, I, I,
00:11:52.740 you need to help me.
00:11:53.680 I mean, there's,
00:11:54.520 there's gotta be something.
00:11:56.100 There's just gotta be something.
00:11:58.140 I actually really thought
00:11:59.500 that they would come around
00:12:00.560 and that, that they would,
00:12:02.480 you know, come to their senses
00:12:03.860 and say like,
00:12:05.160 you can't do this to people
00:12:06.900 that can't afford
00:12:07.620 their mortgage right now
00:12:08.880 for no reason of their own.
00:12:12.460 And you are now mandating
00:12:14.860 the, the $3,000 on top of that.
00:12:20.360 I, I was, I was, I was stunned.
00:12:22.960 To lose my house now
00:12:24.900 at 54 years old,
00:12:27.880 I am stunned.
00:12:30.120 My husband was also
00:12:31.860 during this lockdown,
00:12:34.340 his doors, office doors
00:12:36.280 had to close
00:12:37.160 in order to keep
00:12:38.300 his business open.
00:12:39.460 So he ended up having
00:12:41.280 to move his office
00:12:42.240 in the house.
00:12:43.300 And I'm also a caregiver
00:12:44.560 for my brother
00:12:45.280 who is also a diabetic
00:12:46.360 and severe, severe heart issues.
00:12:49.000 So I look after him.
00:12:50.960 So my house is not just a home.
00:12:53.500 It's two businesses
00:12:54.760 and three people's like livelihoods.
00:12:58.560 This is, I, I don't leave my house.
00:13:00.980 I don't even know
00:13:01.620 if I can put a meal on the table
00:13:03.680 if I followed the lockdowns.
00:13:05.820 So I had to, I, I had to,
00:13:09.460 I've talked to my clients.
00:13:10.920 They're like, atta girl.
00:13:12.360 I am so glad
00:13:13.880 that you're not closing.
00:13:15.400 I will see you next week
00:13:16.980 and, uh, and whatever.
00:13:19.000 And, uh, so that has been encouraging
00:13:22.320 that there, I've got support
00:13:24.660 and I have somebody that's,
00:13:26.900 well, my clients are,
00:13:29.560 are supporting me
00:13:30.620 and they're, they're greeting.
00:13:32.200 And a lot of them,
00:13:33.340 they, they were all about the lockdown,
00:13:35.880 all about the masks, everything.
00:13:37.740 And, uh, and, and I, I was too.
00:13:41.300 I wanted to keep people safe.
00:13:43.560 I didn't know what this thing
00:13:44.760 was going to do,
00:13:45.580 but I am a researcher.
00:13:48.000 I am a fact follower.
00:13:50.600 And that's why I follow you guys.
00:13:52.700 And, uh, and, um, I, uh,
00:13:56.740 it, if, if it made sense,
00:13:58.660 I would follow it.
00:14:00.240 I, my, my clients, sorry,
00:14:02.460 my hairdresser friends,
00:14:04.120 they, they literally every client,
00:14:08.620 every handle, every door handle,
00:14:10.460 every bathroom, every bottle
00:14:12.100 that anybody touched,
00:14:13.880 all the desks,
00:14:14.960 the work that they do
00:14:17.060 to keep an, a sterile environment.
00:14:19.980 I am so fortunate
00:14:21.660 because I am a one man show.
00:14:23.640 I, I, I have control
00:14:25.880 over my environment.
00:14:27.180 I only allow people like any big,
00:14:29.980 you know, if it's a family
00:14:31.440 that's come from one household,
00:14:33.000 they're all to come.
00:14:34.560 But I used to have a color book,
00:14:36.640 a cut in between, uh,
00:14:38.680 you know, and then do it.
00:14:40.080 And, you know,
00:14:41.360 if you run a little behind,
00:14:42.880 okay, you're, you're stacking up in here.
00:14:45.640 Today, now, I mean,
00:14:47.520 I don't put anybody in between.
00:14:49.920 So again, just by keeping
00:14:52.040 a healthy environment,
00:14:53.880 not having paths crossing,
00:14:57.000 um, I don't double book
00:14:58.860 or, or anything of that nature
00:15:00.540 like I used to.
00:15:01.380 And so that in itself
00:15:03.700 is also a cut back
00:15:04.940 on your clientele
00:15:06.340 of what you can do in a day.
00:15:08.520 It's Saturday morning.
00:15:10.200 And, um, I think most women know
00:15:12.920 on Saturday morning,
00:15:14.240 if you try to go to a hair salon,
00:15:16.520 it's booked.
00:15:17.300 Yes.
00:15:17.640 And you don't have any clients today.
00:15:20.060 No.
00:15:20.880 But let's hope that changes.
00:15:22.780 Yes.
00:15:23.360 And, um,
00:15:24.900 you, you've explained to me,
00:15:26.220 you really have nothing left to lose
00:15:28.320 by opening.
00:15:29.520 You're losing your home.
00:15:30.500 You're losing your,
00:15:31.160 you're already losing your home.
00:15:32.380 I saw the for sale sign
00:15:33.500 as I walked up.
00:15:34.640 You're losing your business.
00:15:36.600 Um, you're,
00:15:38.100 I mean, you're left
00:15:39.040 with the untenable choice
00:15:40.380 of putting food on the table
00:15:42.060 or facing fines.
00:15:44.840 And you're willing
00:15:45.680 to take the fines.
00:15:47.200 And I'm going to extend
00:15:48.660 an offer to you
00:15:49.560 that if you do get fines,
00:15:52.000 that you also come to us
00:15:53.660 through fightthefines.com
00:15:55.640 and we will help you
00:15:56.860 fight those fines
00:15:57.840 with everything,
00:15:58.680 with everything that we have.
00:16:00.280 We'll get you a great lawyer
00:16:01.660 and we'll fundraise
00:16:03.120 at no cost to you,
00:16:04.320 um,
00:16:05.120 to help you
00:16:06.140 fight the fines
00:16:06.960 just so that you can
00:16:07.900 try to rebuild your life.
00:16:10.240 Yes.
00:16:10.720 Because I think you've truly
00:16:11.800 done everything right.
00:16:13.180 You tried to live
00:16:13.840 the Alberta dream
00:16:14.660 and it was through
00:16:15.300 no fault of your own.
00:16:16.500 Finally,
00:16:17.440 that we are coming
00:16:18.360 into a season
00:16:19.080 where it's our busiest season.
00:16:21.140 Uh,
00:16:21.620 we are excited.
00:16:23.160 All my friends,
00:16:23.960 I've talked to,
00:16:25.340 um,
00:16:25.900 like the hairdressing forums
00:16:27.320 that you can go on
00:16:28.760 and I'm not alone.
00:16:31.280 Every hairdresser
00:16:32.320 is,
00:16:32.900 is really far behind
00:16:34.480 from where they were
00:16:35.400 and in a lot of ways
00:16:37.380 thinking that this
00:16:38.780 would,
00:16:39.420 would,
00:16:39.900 going to help us through
00:16:41.140 and get us going
00:16:42.720 and get us up
00:16:44.020 and running again
00:16:44.840 and getting some funds
00:16:45.920 for our staff.
00:16:47.220 I don't have any staff,
00:16:48.400 but my friends do.
00:16:49.960 And these hairdressers,
00:16:51.840 man,
00:16:52.120 they work hard
00:16:53.120 and,
00:16:54.100 and,
00:16:54.840 and we're all women.
00:16:56.220 I mean,
00:16:56.940 this is huge
00:16:58.480 for our industry.
00:17:01.180 This is
00:17:01.700 nothing we've ever seen
00:17:04.200 before.
00:17:05.280 Tracy,
00:17:06.240 why don't you tell people
00:17:07.360 how they can get in touch
00:17:08.940 with you,
00:17:09.320 how they can find you
00:17:10.500 if they want to support
00:17:11.680 your business
00:17:12.160 because I imagine
00:17:13.480 there are a lot of ladies
00:17:15.060 who need a quick trim,
00:17:18.040 maybe a quick color
00:17:18.880 before they go to
00:17:20.420 an illegal New Year's party.
00:17:22.520 Yes,
00:17:23.240 um,
00:17:23.860 my name is Tracy Walker.
00:17:25.260 Actually,
00:17:25.660 I used to have a name
00:17:26.700 for my place,
00:17:27.680 but now everybody
00:17:29.080 just calls it Tracy's Place.
00:17:30.520 So that's what
00:17:31.700 my salon is known as.
00:17:34.160 But,
00:17:34.500 uh,
00:17:35.060 yeah,
00:17:35.320 you could give me a call
00:17:36.440 on my,
00:17:37.220 uh,
00:17:37.580 work line,
00:17:38.240 which is,
00:17:38.760 uh,
00:17:39.260 403-346-9912.
00:17:43.380 And,
00:17:43.860 uh,
00:17:44.360 yeah,
00:17:44.560 give me a call.
00:17:45.440 I would be more than happy.
00:17:46.860 Oh,
00:17:47.000 I've been doing hair
00:17:47.700 for 34 years,
00:17:48.760 so I know a little something
00:17:50.120 about a little something.
00:17:51.460 And,
00:17:51.860 uh,
00:17:52.460 and,
00:17:52.960 um,
00:17:53.400 but I would do a great job
00:17:55.040 and I 100% guarantee my work.
00:17:57.120 So if you're not happy,
00:17:58.120 you come on back
00:17:58.860 and we'll,
00:17:59.500 we'll make sure you are.
00:18:00.840 So,
00:18:01.100 or I will make sure you are.
00:18:02.620 But yeah,
00:18:03.320 if you,
00:18:03.940 if you are in need,
00:18:04.880 please contact me.
00:18:06.340 Well,
00:18:06.480 Tracy,
00:18:06.940 again,
00:18:07.240 the offer stands.
00:18:08.040 If the government comes for you,
00:18:09.740 we'll come with lawyers
00:18:10.800 and we'll make sure
00:18:11.760 that we fight that fine
00:18:12.940 as hard as we can.
00:18:14.760 Um,
00:18:15.220 because what's happening to you
00:18:16.860 because of this lockdown
00:18:17.780 through no fault of your own
00:18:19.240 is an absolute tragedy.
00:18:21.560 And if any of you at home
00:18:24.500 are experiencing
00:18:25.260 what Tracy is
00:18:27.300 that through no fault of her own,
00:18:29.060 she stands to lose her home,
00:18:30.640 her business,
00:18:31.360 and the dream truly
00:18:33.360 of entrepreneurial ship,
00:18:34.920 um,
00:18:35.820 here in Alberta
00:18:36.940 because of the increased lockdown measures,
00:18:39.580 please reach out to me
00:18:40.560 at I will open.com.
00:18:43.280 And if you're one of those people
00:18:44.300 who has received a fine,
00:18:45.900 um,
00:18:46.740 for just going about your business,
00:18:48.840 doing things that were completely normal
00:18:50.720 back in February,
00:18:51.820 do reach out to us too
00:18:53.460 at fightthefines.com.
00:18:56.820 For Rebel News,
00:18:57.800 I'm Sheila Gunn-Reed.
00:18:59.000 David Mendes
00:18:59.620 for Rebel News
00:19:00.660 here in Bolton, Ontario.
00:19:02.420 And I'm with Claudia Rocca.
00:19:05.320 She is the owner
00:19:06.660 of Claudia's Closet.
00:19:09.260 And what happened, folks,
00:19:10.480 is on Sunday,
00:19:12.100 she decided to illegally,
00:19:15.120 if we can call it that,
00:19:16.580 open up her story.
00:19:17.520 You see,
00:19:17.940 Bolton is in Peel Region,
00:19:19.820 Peel Region is in the grey zone.
00:19:22.600 It's been in the grey zone
00:19:23.700 for several weeks now.
00:19:25.000 That is the most severe lockdown mode.
00:19:28.140 And that means that Claudia
00:19:29.960 is not allowed to open
00:19:32.220 her wonderful little boutique here.
00:19:34.140 But on Sunday,
00:19:35.420 you said,
00:19:36.320 Claudia,
00:19:36.660 I guess enough is enough.
00:19:37.960 This is the Christmas season.
00:19:39.440 You opened your doors.
00:19:41.400 What happened?
00:19:43.020 Oh,
00:19:43.500 I opened my doors on Sunday
00:19:44.860 and all my customers
00:19:45.760 were very happy
00:19:46.520 because they were very excited
00:19:47.180 to do some shopping.
00:19:48.080 So I had restrictions,
00:19:50.180 like four customers at a time.
00:19:52.260 So there's a bit of a lineup.
00:19:53.600 So they came in
00:19:54.380 and they shopped.
00:19:56.140 And all was well
00:19:56.680 until the two police officers came
00:19:59.040 and they handed me
00:20:00.940 a court summons.
00:20:02.340 And there's no set
00:20:03.940 fine amount on that.
00:20:05.000 It's just a summons
00:20:05.640 to appear in court,
00:20:06.460 I presume next year.
00:20:08.060 Oh, yes.
00:20:08.320 In February.
00:20:09.000 Okay, then.
00:20:09.960 And, you know,
00:20:10.760 I mean,
00:20:11.100 this just strikes me
00:20:12.860 as egregious,
00:20:14.260 Claudia.
00:20:14.540 It's as though
00:20:16.540 there's, what,
00:20:17.340 no other crime,
00:20:18.800 like real crime
00:20:19.760 in Peel Region.
00:20:20.900 There's no murders.
00:20:21.920 There's no sexual assaults.
00:20:23.160 There's no robberies.
00:20:24.800 But a police officer
00:20:26.540 will be dispatched
00:20:27.540 the very day you open
00:20:28.640 to give you this summons.
00:20:30.220 And all you're trying to do
00:20:32.000 is make a living.
00:20:32.800 That's right.
00:20:34.040 I guess everything
00:20:34.680 is all cleared up in town.
00:20:36.160 They got to go after
00:20:36.780 little old me.
00:20:38.200 You know,
00:20:38.620 it's incredible.
00:20:39.320 And you told me yesterday
00:20:42.120 on the phone
00:20:42.940 that there was,
00:20:44.760 was it one cruiser
00:20:45.660 or two police cruisers?
00:20:46.880 Two yesterday.
00:20:47.680 Two police cruisers
00:20:49.080 were in the parking lot
00:20:50.460 of the mall
00:20:50.960 looking at you.
00:20:52.940 I believe you said that
00:20:54.000 one of the police officers
00:20:54.980 said that
00:20:55.620 if we see any customers
00:20:57.220 coming into your store,
00:20:58.940 you are risking
00:21:00.580 a fine of up to $100,000.
00:21:03.960 And they might even
00:21:05.300 charge the customer
00:21:06.340 with what?
00:21:07.400 Illicit shopping.
00:21:08.120 I mean, what did you,
00:21:09.720 how did you feel
00:21:10.500 when you heard that?
00:21:11.460 Actually, at first
00:21:12.220 I was a bit, you know,
00:21:12.900 afraid because $100,000
00:21:14.200 is a lot of money
00:21:15.220 and really normal people
00:21:16.840 don't really have that
00:21:17.940 hanging around
00:21:18.540 to pay for fines.
00:21:19.880 And I was even upset
00:21:21.160 because I didn't want them
00:21:22.000 to threaten my customers
00:21:23.020 with fines either.
00:21:25.120 And as a result,
00:21:26.560 you closed the doors
00:21:28.080 and resorted back
00:21:29.500 to curbside pickup.
00:21:30.740 Because they were
00:21:31.560 parked outside
00:21:32.440 for the rest of the day
00:21:33.260 just, you know,
00:21:34.800 staring at my store
00:21:35.720 and surveillancing me.
00:21:37.360 So the law enforcement
00:21:39.360 two police cruisers
00:21:40.520 spent hours,
00:21:42.040 as you said,
00:21:42.940 surveying you
00:21:43.620 and making sure
00:21:45.060 that you didn't
00:21:45.540 serve any customers
00:21:46.420 because that is probably
00:21:48.580 one of the worst crimes
00:21:50.720 that can possibly occur
00:21:51.960 in Peel Region.
00:21:53.000 That's right.
00:21:53.920 Unbelievable.
00:21:54.660 And, Claudia,
00:21:55.420 it should be stated,
00:21:56.340 I mean, I'm very distracted.
00:21:57.620 I'm looking around your store.
00:21:58.820 You have such wonderful,
00:22:00.240 beautiful merchandise.
00:22:01.100 And the thing is,
00:22:03.220 it's not the same
00:22:04.400 with curbside.
00:22:05.120 I would imagine
00:22:05.940 a shopkeeper like yourself
00:22:08.080 who runs such a store,
00:22:09.840 you depend a lot
00:22:11.320 on impulse buys
00:22:12.540 and you're not going
00:22:13.580 to get that
00:22:14.020 with curbside pickup,
00:22:15.360 are you?
00:22:15.780 No, because when someone
00:22:16.500 places a curbside
00:22:17.220 or they place
00:22:17.960 just what they want,
00:22:18.980 they want a candle,
00:22:19.540 they want a book,
00:22:20.060 they want this,
00:22:20.680 and then that's it.
00:22:21.780 So I get everything ready
00:22:22.660 and then the impulse buying
00:22:23.940 is like zero after.
00:22:26.000 Yeah, and of course,
00:22:27.500 you've got so much merchandise.
00:22:29.320 The idea of putting
00:22:30.360 all of this online,
00:22:31.580 it's not doable either.
00:22:32.860 I have like thousands
00:22:33.520 and thousands of items in here.
00:22:34.740 Like, it's not possible
00:22:35.940 to put it all online.
00:22:37.260 And the other thing,
00:22:38.300 of course, Claudia,
00:22:38.940 is that whether we're
00:22:40.140 talking about mugs
00:22:41.320 or Christmas decorations,
00:22:43.240 you've got clothing
00:22:44.040 in the background,
00:22:45.540 we know we can go down
00:22:46.600 the street here in Bolton
00:22:47.580 to the Walmart,
00:22:48.580 which will be packed
00:22:49.840 to the gills
00:22:50.640 with customers
00:22:51.560 selling exactly
00:22:52.920 the same merchandise.
00:22:54.580 Why them
00:22:55.300 and why not you?
00:22:56.900 That's a good question
00:22:57.620 that I like to know.
00:22:58.240 That's what really upsets me
00:22:59.440 because if it was fair
00:23:00.700 and the Walmarts
00:23:01.880 had that blocked off
00:23:03.520 and just selling their food
00:23:04.460 and pharmacy,
00:23:05.900 then I really wouldn't
00:23:06.540 have a problem
00:23:07.040 with any of this.
00:23:08.200 You know, maybe that's an idea.
00:23:09.740 I'm not counselling you,
00:23:11.020 but what if you just put
00:23:12.400 a bushel of apples
00:23:13.560 at the counter,
00:23:14.940 a nickel and apple,
00:23:15.860 and oh, by the way,
00:23:16.620 we have merchandise
00:23:17.880 on the side
00:23:18.680 you might want to buy.
00:23:20.800 I'm wondering
00:23:21.440 if that would work.
00:23:22.660 Yeah, maybe.
00:23:23.120 We'll try that.
00:23:23.620 But in all seriousness,
00:23:26.780 I would see
00:23:27.660 a small shop
00:23:29.320 like yours,
00:23:29.960 it's set on the door,
00:23:31.360 only four customers
00:23:32.400 at a time.
00:23:33.300 You've got the hand sanitizer,
00:23:35.000 you've got the mask policy.
00:23:36.660 I would see compliance
00:23:38.860 to the COVID-19 regulations
00:23:41.900 much easier
00:23:43.560 to apply
00:23:44.360 in a small store environment
00:23:46.540 than a huge big box.
00:23:48.220 So again,
00:23:49.460 why do the big boxes
00:23:50.680 get to remain open
00:23:51.920 and you don't?
00:23:54.200 Again,
00:23:54.720 that's something
00:23:55.100 that I really want
00:23:55.860 the answers to.
00:23:56.640 I don't know.
00:23:57.520 It's not fair.
00:23:58.600 I agree it's not fair.
00:23:59.960 And you know what, folks?
00:24:01.120 We don't think it's fair
00:24:02.900 that Claudia
00:24:04.120 got that summons
00:24:05.460 on Sunday.
00:24:07.000 And we,
00:24:07.840 I mean,
00:24:08.660 just for what,
00:24:09.320 the crime
00:24:09.980 of trying to stay open
00:24:11.520 to try to make a living
00:24:13.400 to serve her customers
00:24:14.800 that obviously
00:24:15.500 want to come in here.
00:24:16.760 So, Claudia,
00:24:17.440 we were in touch
00:24:18.120 with one of our lawyers today.
00:24:20.340 We,
00:24:20.780 under our portal
00:24:22.340 of IWillOpen.com,
00:24:24.520 we are taking on your case.
00:24:26.420 We are going to crowdfund it.
00:24:28.060 And folks,
00:24:28.440 if you can go to
00:24:29.260 IWillOpen.com,
00:24:30.980 if you're able to,
00:24:32.180 please make a donation
00:24:33.400 because I don't think,
00:24:35.220 and I'm sure you don't think,
00:24:36.880 that a nice lady
00:24:37.680 like Claudia
00:24:38.360 just trying to run
00:24:39.260 her retail business
00:24:40.620 should be penalized like this.
00:24:42.340 So,
00:24:42.600 that's what we've done,
00:24:43.740 Claudia.
00:24:44.120 We've put you
00:24:45.340 in touch with a lawyer
00:24:46.520 and we are going
00:24:48.020 to fight this fine.
00:24:49.700 So,
00:24:50.060 in come February,
00:24:51.060 we're going to go
00:24:51.820 to court for you.
00:24:52.780 You won't have to spend
00:24:54.000 a nickel.
00:24:55.000 You won't have to spend
00:24:55.860 any more time
00:24:56.620 on this nonsense.
00:24:57.600 What do you think about that?
00:24:58.880 That's awesome.
00:24:59.420 Thank you so much
00:24:59.940 for your help.
00:25:00.540 You got it.
00:25:01.120 Well,
00:25:01.280 you're very deserving of it
00:25:03.040 because,
00:25:03.720 like I said,
00:25:04.140 folks,
00:25:04.700 this is a lady
00:25:05.440 just trying to make a living
00:25:06.740 and the idea
00:25:08.120 that this is a breeding ground
00:25:10.400 for future typhoid Marys
00:25:12.000 whereas the Walmart
00:25:12.900 down the road
00:25:14.300 that is literally
00:25:15.280 packed to the gills,
00:25:16.620 that's okay.
00:25:17.600 No,
00:25:17.840 no,
00:25:18.040 that's not okay.
00:25:19.660 We're going to fight
00:25:20.320 for justice.
00:25:21.080 So,
00:25:21.600 in the meantime,
00:25:22.580 Claudia,
00:25:23.000 I hope,
00:25:24.020 at least with the curbside
00:25:25.280 service you're doing,
00:25:26.360 at least a little
00:25:27.680 is better than nothing,
00:25:28.800 but I really hope
00:25:30.380 we finally move away
00:25:32.620 from this gray zone nonsense
00:25:33.960 so that,
00:25:34.640 you know,
00:25:35.320 law-abiding,
00:25:36.040 tax-paying citizens
00:25:37.740 like you
00:25:38.480 can simply
00:25:39.660 make a living
00:25:40.580 doing what you like to do.
00:25:42.160 Yeah,
00:25:42.340 thank you so much,
00:25:42.940 David.
00:25:43.340 Okay,
00:25:43.800 then.
00:25:44.100 All right.
00:25:44.960 Well,
00:25:45.360 for Rebel News,
00:25:46.260 I'm David the Menzoid Menzies.
00:25:48.200 I'm here in Sale,
00:25:49.040 which is a small country town
00:25:50.040 about 220 kilometers
00:25:51.420 from Melbourne.
00:25:53.040 How you going,
00:25:53.660 mate?
00:25:53.860 You all right?
00:25:54.500 Yeah,
00:25:54.740 good.
00:25:55.380 Just the permits?
00:25:56.400 Yep.
00:25:56.760 And where are you headed to?
00:25:57.920 To Sale.
00:25:58.740 To Sale.
00:26:00.120 And moving are you?
00:26:01.620 Sorry?
00:26:02.120 Are you moving?
00:26:02.960 No,
00:26:03.160 no,
00:26:03.460 just coming in,
00:26:04.380 coming in,
00:26:04.980 yeah.
00:26:06.040 No dramas.
00:26:07.300 And I'm on.
00:26:09.140 Easy done.
00:26:09.660 Have a good day.
00:26:10.140 Thanks, mate.
00:26:11.240 It's got a population
00:26:11.920 of about 15,000.
00:26:13.580 Now,
00:26:13.660 the reason why I'm here
00:26:14.360 is that we're at Sale CrossFit
00:26:16.280 where the owner here
00:26:18.040 has announced
00:26:18.620 that next Saturday
00:26:19.660 he plans to open
00:26:21.740 his doors
00:26:22.460 in defiance
00:26:23.320 to Dan Andrews' lockdown
00:26:25.380 to Dan Andrews' lockdown restrictions.
00:26:26.460 I'm going to be opening
00:26:27.180 on Saturday.
00:26:28.060 Have an open day
00:26:28.660 for everybody in the community.
00:26:30.080 If you think he's alone,
00:26:31.340 he's not.
00:26:32.580 Since Dan Andrews' announcement,
00:26:34.100 his roadmap to nowhere yesterday,
00:26:36.860 we've been inundated
00:26:37.880 at
00:26:38.300 iwillopen.com.au
00:26:40.900 with businesses
00:26:42.040 telling us
00:26:42.580 they plan to open.
00:26:43.520 I came here first
00:26:44.460 because I think it's important
00:26:45.640 for Melbournians
00:26:47.020 to hear
00:26:47.620 from
00:26:48.900 regional Victoria.
00:26:50.940 Melbourne,
00:26:51.340 like,
00:26:51.820 you're behind us.
00:26:53.220 You know,
00:26:53.440 if this is where we're at
00:26:54.420 and we're three and a half hours
00:26:55.580 away from you
00:26:56.280 in a small little country town,
00:26:58.380 you guys are,
00:26:59.500 no matter what you keep getting told,
00:27:01.060 he's not going to do it for you.
00:27:02.240 If the police rock up on Saturday,
00:27:04.960 what are you going to say to them?
00:27:06.220 Look,
00:27:06.420 I'll be polite.
00:27:07.360 I've got nothing wrong
00:27:08.160 with them doing what their job is.
00:27:09.440 It's a bit unfortunate
00:27:10.120 they've got to do the job.
00:27:11.980 But this is what it is.
00:27:13.220 I think we...
00:27:13.720 Will you give them
00:27:14.200 a two-week free trial?
00:27:16.600 The police?
00:27:17.640 They can come in for free.
00:27:19.100 Yeah.
00:27:19.560 There you go.
00:27:20.060 You had that gear first.
00:27:20.280 We need to keep them strong and healthy.
00:27:21.760 But I'm also going to keep going.
00:27:23.560 I'm going to keep going.
00:27:24.420 So if they tell you to shut down,
00:27:25.560 you're just going to keep going?
00:27:26.480 Yeah.
00:27:27.400 Yeah.
00:27:27.720 I spent $10,000
00:27:28.680 on my contact tracing system
00:27:30.400 and the cleaning
00:27:31.080 and hygiene systems.
00:27:32.660 Social distancing
00:27:33.380 can all be managed.
00:27:34.140 I have 350 square metres.
00:27:35.980 Gyms can do this safely.
00:27:37.520 We've been shown to be
00:27:38.180 one of the safest industries worldwide
00:27:39.680 and all the statistics
00:27:41.240 from the UK and America
00:27:42.520 support this.
00:27:44.000 Australia,
00:27:44.520 Victoria is the only one doing.
00:27:46.020 All the other states are going.
00:27:47.600 You know,
00:27:47.840 New South Wales
00:27:48.280 has more cases than we do now
00:27:49.480 and their gyms are going
00:27:51.180 and there's not one case
00:27:52.080 being reported
00:27:52.580 from a gym in New South Wales.
00:27:54.700 What would your message be
00:27:55.640 to Dan Andrews?
00:28:00.040 It's hard.
00:28:00.700 He's got a hard job
00:28:02.100 but the thing is
00:28:03.300 he's not taking
00:28:04.340 small businesses
00:28:04.940 into account.
00:28:05.960 Were you disappointed
00:28:07.060 yesterday
00:28:07.320 or were you expecting
00:28:08.120 the announcement
00:28:08.980 not to include gyms at all?
00:28:11.100 No,
00:28:11.320 I was really disappointed.
00:28:12.600 You know,
00:28:12.880 I'm a pretty positive guy.
00:28:14.160 I like to stay hopeful
00:28:14.920 but it was really hard
00:28:17.000 and then I listened
00:28:18.740 to the whole thing.
00:28:19.700 I sat there listening
00:28:20.360 because there was no mention
00:28:21.240 of gyms
00:28:21.600 and I got angry
00:28:22.520 and frustrated
00:28:23.420 and then one of the reporters
00:28:26.100 asked him about gyms
00:28:27.020 and he turned around
00:28:27.660 and said we were unsafe
00:28:28.440 and I just had to turn off
00:28:31.000 and walk away.
00:28:32.120 They are sadly.
00:28:32.940 This is a high risk environment.
00:28:34.200 That's not my opinion.
00:28:35.180 That's not a matter
00:28:35.700 that I've come up with.
00:28:36.940 That's the international evidence.
00:28:38.980 That's the public health advice.
00:28:41.700 We've gone further
00:28:42.620 in relation to outdoor
00:28:43.720 but it's a very challenging environment
00:28:46.280 and it's one of those things
00:28:47.280 where no one's taking any joy
00:28:49.080 out of that
00:28:49.780 but it is very difficult
00:28:51.640 when something's just
00:28:52.560 by its very nature.
00:28:54.020 This is no disrespect
00:28:55.280 or any reflection
00:28:56.080 on the owner
00:28:56.660 or the person who operates it
00:28:58.120 but when something is
00:28:59.240 by its very nature
00:29:00.160 in a really, you know,
00:29:01.580 unsafe
00:29:02.560 because in the context
00:29:04.680 of this virus
00:29:05.340 it's really hard
00:29:06.220 to make it safe.
00:29:07.000 You can't,
00:29:07.420 it's kind of binary.
00:29:08.720 There's no stats
00:29:09.380 to support what he's saying
00:29:10.300 but he,
00:29:11.580 and he's done this
00:29:12.200 not just with the gyms
00:29:13.200 but data after data
00:29:14.420 after data.
00:29:15.140 The curfews he had,
00:29:16.200 there was no backing for that.
00:29:17.180 He just said he made that up.
00:29:18.740 The hotel quarantine,
00:29:19.740 like,
00:29:20.360 he's lying constantly.
00:29:22.560 To try and cover
00:29:23.260 what he thinks
00:29:23.920 is the best thing
00:29:24.680 and these are his ideas.
00:29:26.620 I need a certain example
00:29:27.480 for the fitness industry
00:29:28.600 and I need to sort of
00:29:30.600 just get the message out there
00:29:31.620 that we can do this safely
00:29:32.600 and if that means
00:29:33.600 demonstrating
00:29:34.160 that when the police come in
00:29:35.620 when I open
00:29:36.660 and they see everybody
00:29:38.040 socially distancing,
00:29:39.060 everyone maintaining
00:29:39.920 their spaces,
00:29:40.900 cleaning their equipment
00:29:41.560 and doing it right,
00:29:42.760 hopefully
00:29:43.140 that gets some attention
00:29:45.000 and shows that,
00:29:45.900 look,
00:29:46.660 give us a chance.
00:29:47.420 I can't even train
00:29:48.180 one person in there.
00:29:49.640 You know what I mean?
00:29:50.280 I can stand at one end
00:29:51.260 of the gym
00:29:51.600 and yell at them
00:29:52.200 to do what they're
00:29:53.000 supposed to do
00:29:53.460 and I'm not allowed
00:29:53.920 to do that.
00:29:54.600 Now,
00:29:54.920 most importantly,
00:29:55.640 how'd you get those arms?
00:29:57.680 Pubs in this area
00:29:58.620 at the moment,
00:29:59.420 are they allowed patrons?
00:30:01.220 Up to 40 people now.
00:30:02.420 Up to 40 people.
00:30:03.220 So up to 40 people
00:30:04.040 can be here
00:30:04.480 but you can't have
00:30:05.300 one in here.
00:30:06.440 Yeah.
00:30:07.020 Yeah,
00:30:07.240 and some pubs in town
00:30:08.120 are actually smaller
00:30:08.680 than my space.
00:30:10.380 What do you think's
00:30:11.080 better for people
00:30:12.020 and more necessary?
00:30:12.900 A beer at the pub
00:30:15.900 which I am
00:30:16.580 a big advocate for
00:30:17.680 or coming here
00:30:19.700 a couple times a week?
00:30:21.600 Oh,
00:30:21.920 look,
00:30:22.920 everyone I know
00:30:23.680 is going to enjoy
00:30:24.440 a beer after a footy game,
00:30:25.920 you know,
00:30:26.420 but,
00:30:27.060 I mean,
00:30:27.500 from a health perspective,
00:30:29.000 we're the protective factor.
00:30:31.400 You know,
00:30:32.120 people who are regularly
00:30:33.320 going to pubs and clubs,
00:30:34.300 they're probably more likely
00:30:35.120 to be in the sick
00:30:36.040 and at risk category
00:30:37.360 whereas people
00:30:38.300 that are coming here regularly
00:30:39.320 are going to be
00:30:40.000 on the other end of that.
00:30:41.060 Even the older people
00:30:41.900 are going to be able
00:30:42.500 to fight off that
00:30:43.260 by staying fitter,
00:30:44.260 healthier,
00:30:44.680 more aware of their diet.
00:30:45.880 What about people
00:30:46.340 like me that do both?
00:30:48.080 Well,
00:30:48.500 we've got to have
00:30:49.000 a bit of both,
00:30:49.480 don't we?
00:30:50.560 I'm good at both.
00:30:51.440 What are you hoping
00:30:51.980 after Saturday,
00:30:52.720 what are you hoping
00:30:53.280 is going to happen?
00:30:55.560 Look,
00:30:55.980 I'm hoping we sort of
00:30:56.860 get ignored by the police
00:30:57.740 and they say,
00:30:58.400 look,
00:30:58.500 just let it go.
00:30:59.440 I don't see that happening
00:31:00.420 but I hope other gyms
00:31:02.420 sort of see
00:31:03.000 what we're doing
00:31:03.840 and decide that
00:31:05.840 this needs to be done
00:31:06.920 and I can start
00:31:08.280 providing a service
00:31:09.040 for my community again.
00:31:10.660 You know,
00:31:10.840 we've got so many people
00:31:11.660 I see every day
00:31:12.780 as a coach
00:31:13.600 who keep asking me
00:31:14.700 when we're going to open
00:31:15.360 and when we're going
00:31:16.900 to be able to
00:31:17.360 get them back
00:31:18.000 in the gym
00:31:18.540 and I can't give them
00:31:19.700 an answer
00:31:19.980 and that's the hardest bit.
00:31:20.900 How's your fitness?
00:31:22.120 Let's find out.
00:31:23.240 Let's find out.
00:31:24.240 What's,
00:31:25.200 chin-ups?
00:31:26.000 Chin-ups?
00:31:26.420 Can you do chin-ups?
00:31:27.340 I could try.
00:31:28.160 You can try.
00:31:29.100 Competition,
00:31:29.660 all right,
00:31:30.040 here.
00:31:30.920 Yeah,
00:31:31.260 you go there
00:31:31.880 and I'll go here.
00:31:32.820 You're going to count them?
00:31:34.660 All right.
00:31:35.680 Ready?
00:31:36.200 Let's go.
00:31:36.640 Should be fun.
00:31:38.420 What?
00:31:38.820 So I've had to cut it there
00:31:41.120 because I won.
00:31:42.800 Yeah.
00:31:43.940 We'll give it to him.
00:31:48.040 Why now?
00:31:48.600 Why have you decided
00:31:49.240 for next Saturday
00:31:50.800 to suddenly open?
00:31:51.940 Look,
00:31:52.760 I actually said something
00:31:53.800 to my community
00:31:54.340 last week about it
00:31:55.220 and I thought,
00:31:56.120 look,
00:31:56.200 I'm going to wait
00:31:56.640 until he gives us
00:31:57.700 his easing on restrictions
00:31:58.600 on Sunday
00:31:59.100 because he said
00:31:59.620 there's going to be
00:32:00.000 big changes,
00:32:00.660 especially for regional Victoria.
00:32:01.940 We're going to expect
00:32:02.320 these big changes.
00:32:03.460 So I thought,
00:32:03.860 cool,
00:32:04.060 surely,
00:32:04.500 surely now,
00:32:05.140 because we've done
00:32:06.060 everything right.
00:32:07.940 We've done everything right.
00:32:09.100 We've done our job
00:32:09.780 and then on Sunday
00:32:11.720 he didn't even give us
00:32:12.900 an inkling
00:32:13.240 and if I don't do it now,
00:32:15.880 do I just keep waiting?
00:32:16.780 Do I just wait
00:32:17.300 until Christmas
00:32:18.000 when I can't put presents
00:32:19.200 in my kids' stockings?
00:32:21.740 No.
00:32:22.500 It's time to take some action
00:32:23.760 and just do something.
00:32:26.380 So is this your last chance
00:32:27.960 for this business?
00:32:29.260 I think so.
00:32:30.160 I think so.
00:32:30.660 So if we don't get
00:32:31.700 up and running again,
00:32:32.800 then it may have to be
00:32:34.400 selling everything
00:32:35.000 and closing it up
00:32:35.880 because I can't keep
00:32:37.180 going along like this.
00:32:38.740 So if you're also
00:32:39.460 a small business
00:32:40.240 that plans to open
00:32:41.740 in defiance to the lockdown,
00:32:43.440 let us know
00:32:44.100 at iwillopen.com.au
00:32:46.340 and we will tell your story.
00:32:48.120 I bought the gym in January
00:32:49.460 and so then we,
00:32:50.420 at that point,
00:32:50.860 we had all the bushfires
00:32:51.640 coming through
00:32:52.220 and so a big component
00:32:53.400 of the gym
00:32:53.960 is military
00:32:54.560 and emergency services
00:32:55.840 and so they had to go off
00:32:57.240 and fight them
00:32:58.160 so we lost some time there.
00:33:00.620 Affected the business
00:33:01.380 pretty drastically
00:33:02.020 plus all the tourism.
00:33:03.460 People couldn't travel around
00:33:04.380 people were blocked in
00:33:05.240 coming and going
00:33:05.960 so a lot of members
00:33:07.080 were locked up
00:33:07.920 in other areas
00:33:08.600 and couldn't get back
00:33:09.240 here to train.
00:33:10.360 So not only did we
00:33:11.240 have the bushfires
00:33:11.900 and that was January
00:33:12.820 when I bought the place
00:33:14.140 and then come March
00:33:15.580 and ever since then
00:33:16.600 pretty much on lockdown.
00:33:19.720 And no help?
00:33:20.960 No help from Andrews?
00:33:22.400 No help from Andrews.
00:33:23.560 David Menzies
00:33:24.460 for Rebel News
00:33:25.260 here in Bolton, Ontario
00:33:26.840 and you might recognize
00:33:28.020 the mass gentleman
00:33:29.680 beside me.
00:33:31.040 He is none other
00:33:31.820 than Derek Noble
00:33:33.700 and he is
00:33:35.580 well first of all
00:33:36.200 he's celebrating
00:33:36.860 his 50th birthday
00:33:37.780 so congratulations
00:33:38.660 happy birthday
00:33:39.480 to you Derek
00:33:39.960 and astute viewers
00:33:41.580 of Rebel News
00:33:42.280 know that a couple
00:33:43.160 weeks ago
00:33:43.760 Derek violated
00:33:46.100 the Peel Region
00:33:47.520 grey zone lockdown.
00:33:49.500 He opened
00:33:50.140 his incredible
00:33:52.080 toy and collectible
00:33:53.620 store called
00:33:54.660 Noble Toys
00:33:55.460 here in Bolton
00:33:56.840 and yes he was fined
00:33:58.800 yes he was given
00:33:59.680 a summons
00:34:00.300 but since then
00:34:02.220 Derek
00:34:02.540 you've carried on
00:34:04.360 and you just
00:34:05.320 you told me
00:34:05.760 a couple things
00:34:06.300 off camera
00:34:06.860 one was
00:34:08.240 when the video aired
00:34:09.560 you started getting
00:34:10.540 calls and visits
00:34:11.480 from people
00:34:12.200 all over the province
00:34:13.440 and evidently
00:34:15.220 Saturday
00:34:15.780 was a record
00:34:17.260 sales day
00:34:18.000 so congratulations
00:34:18.800 to you for that.
00:34:20.040 Yeah I think
00:34:20.700 we've mentioned
00:34:21.320 in the beginning
00:34:22.040 this wasn't about
00:34:22.740 the sales
00:34:23.240 I mean the sales
00:34:23.920 are going to help
00:34:24.480 a small shop
00:34:25.560 this time of year
00:34:26.160 and that's why
00:34:26.640 we're trying to get
00:34:27.240 these small shops open
00:34:28.320 because they do 50%
00:34:29.480 of their sales
00:34:30.060 six weeks before Christmas
00:34:31.320 that's a proven fact
00:34:33.500 so sales have been
00:34:35.320 amazing
00:34:36.040 the people
00:34:37.040 I just want to say
00:34:38.080 thank you to everybody
00:34:39.340 because these
00:34:40.060 like I've been
00:34:41.120 an emotional wreck
00:34:42.560 over the past couple weeks
00:34:43.580 because right across
00:34:44.720 the world even
00:34:45.420 we've had people
00:34:46.080 from like England
00:34:46.940 Australia
00:34:47.720 reach out to us
00:34:49.380 right across Canada
00:34:51.220 and I just want to say
00:34:52.240 thank you very much
00:34:53.060 for that
00:34:53.440 that meant a lot
00:34:54.080 to us
00:34:54.520 and to the fight
00:34:55.400 we did get
00:34:56.660 a couple stores open
00:34:57.740 and I know
00:34:58.600 we got a bunch
00:34:59.100 of stores open
00:34:59.900 that don't want
00:35:00.840 to go on record
00:35:01.620 of being open
00:35:02.540 and that's just
00:35:03.860 right across Canada
00:35:04.780 too
00:35:05.180 and isn't that funny
00:35:06.980 I mean it reminds me
00:35:07.860 of Prohibition era
00:35:09.400 North America
00:35:10.680 you know the speakeasies
00:35:12.420 you do a secret
00:35:13.160 knock on the door
00:35:14.580 and they let you
00:35:15.360 and you can have alcohol
00:35:16.220 the real irony folks
00:35:17.420 today is that
00:35:18.300 one of the stores
00:35:19.520 not affected
00:35:20.300 by the province-wide
00:35:21.980 or city-wide
00:35:23.060 or region-wide
00:35:23.700 lockdown is the LCBO
00:35:25.480 those are government
00:35:26.620 owned liquor stores
00:35:27.480 always open there
00:35:29.020 so a bit of irony
00:35:30.420 in 2020
00:35:31.520 you can go to
00:35:33.560 the liquor store
00:35:34.120 and get as much
00:35:34.860 hooch as you want
00:35:35.900 but if you come in here
00:35:38.100 and you want to buy
00:35:38.720 a toy or a game
00:35:40.420 or a puzzle
00:35:41.160 ooh you're
00:35:42.200 public enemy number one
00:35:43.560 yeah we're all
00:35:44.660 criminals here
00:35:45.420 and I want to
00:35:45.940 no
00:35:46.160 again I want to say
00:35:48.100 the OPP have been
00:35:48.960 very very receptive
00:35:50.060 they have a job
00:35:50.800 to do
00:35:51.280 like I said
00:35:53.660 we had some visits
00:35:54.640 we had some summons
00:35:55.900 we had that
00:35:56.600 we had Peel Health
00:35:57.740 and Safety come in
00:35:58.720 and I had a good
00:35:59.340 half hour chat with them
00:36:00.340 they were great people
00:36:01.360 they told me about
00:36:02.760 consequences and such
00:36:03.880 and I said
00:36:04.540 listen we're mandating
00:36:05.520 your masks
00:36:06.080 we're using your sanitizer
00:36:07.320 we're doing whatever
00:36:08.040 it takes to stay open
00:36:09.100 so they kind of backed off
00:36:11.340 we did get
00:36:12.560 some local people
00:36:13.940 who must have
00:36:15.780 reported us
00:36:16.880 which I don't understand
00:36:18.140 why
00:36:18.540 going back to what
00:36:19.760 we talked about
00:36:20.300 five minutes down the road
00:36:21.300 you can walk into a Walmart
00:36:22.380 and they don't report them
00:36:24.260 but for some reason
00:36:24.980 we were reported
00:36:25.980 so we had more calls
00:36:27.820 from some officers
00:36:28.820 great conversations
00:36:29.980 they warned me
00:36:30.680 there could be
00:36:31.740 you know more repercussions
00:36:33.160 and I said
00:36:33.760 I'm not closing
00:36:34.980 I said the only way
00:36:35.780 I'll close this store
00:36:36.640 if they drag me out
00:36:37.480 in a cop car
00:36:38.140 or if they
00:36:39.460 padlock my doors
00:36:41.140 I'm staying right
00:36:42.100 until the 24th
00:36:43.040 Derek careful what you wish for
00:36:45.040 because you know
00:36:45.480 I don't want that to happen
00:36:46.720 then I'll go on record
00:36:47.500 I don't want that to happen
00:36:49.140 but we are not going anywhere
00:36:51.780 and I've told people that
00:36:52.960 and I don't want it
00:36:53.780 to happen to you either
00:36:54.560 but you know what folks
00:36:55.520 we have seen it happen
00:36:56.960 a few weeks ago
00:36:58.160 Adam Skelly
00:36:58.980 of Adamson BBQ
00:37:00.160 remember what happened to him
00:37:02.440 check it out
00:37:03.220 save on you brother
00:37:06.220 save on you brother
00:37:08.720 save on you
00:37:13.720 we need this car
00:37:14.960 we need this car
00:37:16.520 move back
00:37:18.660 get back
00:37:19.360 he's got more risk
00:37:20.180 shame
00:37:21.180 shame
00:37:22.300 shame
00:37:25.300 shame
00:37:25.860 shame
00:37:27.300 shame
00:37:27.440 shame
00:37:28.300 so and you know
00:37:32.880 that is just so incredible
00:37:34.440 to me Derek
00:37:35.140 it just shows
00:37:36.440 the inconsistency
00:37:37.780 in how politicians
00:37:39.640 or law enforcement
00:37:40.600 are enforcing
00:37:42.280 these Wuhan virus rules
00:37:44.080 Adam Skelly
00:37:45.080 literally had
00:37:46.300 all the king's horses
00:37:47.300 and all the king's men
00:37:48.560 descend upon his restaurant
00:37:50.040 he was cuffed
00:37:51.740 put into a cruiser
00:37:52.940 spent a day in jail overnight
00:37:54.700 you had that initial
00:37:55.960 summons and fine
00:37:56.900 but they haven't come back
00:37:58.440 to harass you anymore
00:38:00.360 really
00:38:00.680 so what do you make of it
00:38:02.420 and by the way
00:38:03.080 I'm happy they're not
00:38:03.940 harassing you
00:38:04.500 but what do you make
00:38:05.700 of the inconsistency
00:38:06.860 well I think
00:38:07.780 we've done a very
00:38:08.940 peaceful approach
00:38:10.120 here
00:38:10.280 we've had
00:38:10.740 to date
00:38:11.420 we've had
00:38:11.780 zero incidents
00:38:12.680 also
00:38:14.220 you know
00:38:14.780 we are mandating
00:38:15.700 all the mask
00:38:17.140 and sanitizer
00:38:18.220 etc etc
00:38:18.940 so we're making sure
00:38:20.400 everybody's safe
00:38:21.120 in this place
00:38:21.700 we've done
00:38:22.860 six to eight
00:38:23.780 max
00:38:24.180 we actually
00:38:24.740 if I'm by myself
00:38:26.300 I've actually
00:38:26.840 decreased that
00:38:27.580 from four to six
00:38:28.580 we'll lock the door
00:38:30.220 in between people
00:38:31.460 just to make sure
00:38:32.400 everything's safe
00:38:32.940 but I mean
00:38:34.040 it's one of those years
00:38:35.000 where nothing makes sense anymore
00:38:36.460 like you know
00:38:37.280 like
00:38:37.560 we have bookstores
00:38:39.580 around the corner
00:38:40.240 that you know
00:38:41.380 two three people
00:38:42.340 could go into
00:38:43.040 which would be
00:38:43.600 a safe environment
00:38:44.380 but yet
00:38:44.900 the big box
00:38:46.040 you can have
00:38:46.520 hundreds of thousands
00:38:47.260 and people have seen
00:38:48.100 these videos
00:38:48.800 of thousands of people
00:38:50.540 lining up for these
00:38:51.500 malls and big box stores
00:38:53.100 and it makes no sense
00:38:55.140 and then
00:38:55.500 the Ford government
00:38:57.080 is saying
00:38:57.440 oh we feel so bad
00:38:58.820 about the small business
00:38:59.960 yet they keep closing
00:39:01.060 I mean
00:39:01.420 I saw an article today
00:39:03.020 where some of these
00:39:03.880 small business downtown
00:39:04.700 are putting out
00:39:05.240 mannequins
00:39:05.900 and stuff like this
00:39:06.740 just to say
00:39:07.380 hey man
00:39:08.400 we're losing
00:39:09.180 our business here
00:39:10.100 and nothing's being done
00:39:11.460 well you know what
00:39:13.060 it makes no sense at all
00:39:14.860 I think what
00:39:15.720 what has to happen
00:39:17.600 and what can be done
00:39:18.960 is what Adam Skelly did
00:39:20.780 what you did
00:39:21.500 just opened the doors
00:39:22.640 didn't work out so well
00:39:24.160 for Adam Skelly
00:39:24.840 but I'm so happy
00:39:25.780 that you're having
00:39:26.960 even record sales
00:39:28.120 so
00:39:28.400 again
00:39:29.440 Derek
00:39:29.980 Touchwood
00:39:31.660 a Merry Christmas to you
00:39:33.720 and I hope
00:39:35.220 there is no more
00:39:36.200 future harassment
00:39:37.060 for you at your
00:39:38.120 wonderful store here
00:39:39.080 thank you
00:39:39.480 Merry Christmas to you
00:39:40.460 and I wanted to
00:39:41.220 thank you personally
00:39:41.880 again
00:39:42.200 I told people
00:39:43.080 I have a man crush
00:39:43.860 on you
00:39:44.100 because I'm a big fan
00:39:45.240 of what you did
00:39:46.660 the interview went
00:39:47.420 perfect the first time
00:39:48.540 and thanks for
00:39:49.460 following up
00:39:50.040 and everything
00:39:50.380 and I just want to say
00:39:51.300 Merry Christmas
00:39:51.840 to everybody else
00:39:52.580 out there
00:39:52.980 and thanks for the
00:39:54.580 awesome wishes
00:39:56.220 and support
00:39:57.460 you've given us
00:39:58.120 it means a lot to us
00:39:59.200 you guys have made
00:40:00.440 my year
00:40:00.880 and pretty much
00:40:01.340 my life
00:40:01.780 like this has been
00:40:02.360 one of the greatest
00:40:02.840 things that ever
00:40:03.340 happened to me
00:40:03.920 well unlike the
00:40:04.800 Adam Skelly story
00:40:05.660 this is a good news
00:40:06.700 story
00:40:06.900 this has a happy ending
00:40:07.920 thank you so much
00:40:08.900 again for your time
00:40:10.060 Derek
00:40:10.320 and folks
00:40:10.780 like we've said
00:40:12.700 for weeks now
00:40:13.520 if you are a shop owner
00:40:15.560 and you want to open
00:40:16.960 in defiance of these
00:40:18.160 ridiculous regulations
