00:01:14.340 Welcome to Rebel Roundup, ladies and gentlemen, and the rest of you,
00:01:32.540 in which we look back at some of the very best commentaries of the week by your favorite rebels.
00:01:37.680 I'm your host, David Menzies.
00:01:39.360 Well, the lockdown is pretty much over in Alberta, yet the provincial government is nevertheless still cherry-picking
00:01:47.420 those Albertans who committed the egregious offense of merely trying to make a living.
00:01:53.640 And the government is still pursuing legal actions against these individuals.
00:01:59.600 Why?
00:02:00.680 Sheila Gunn-Reed has all the details.
00:02:02.880 And hey, did you get the memo?
00:02:05.440 Recently, Canada anointed a new queen to lord over us.
00:02:09.560 Alas, Her Royal Highness Romana de Dulo is so much fakery,
00:02:15.360 yet thousands of people are apparently buying into this proclamation.
00:02:20.780 Andrew Chapitose will try to make sense of it all.
00:02:24.860 And letters, we get your letters.
00:02:26.220 We get them every minute of every day.
00:02:27.780 And you had plenty to say about the latest filthy tent city in Toronto being eradicated.
00:02:33.820 But there was a twist.
00:02:35.560 The woke social justice warriors were trying to prevent the police from doing their jobs.
00:02:41.320 They seem to think it's a good idea for the homeless to remain homeless.
00:02:45.960 Yikes.
00:02:47.660 Those are your rebels now.
00:02:49.000 Let's round them up.
00:02:49.880 People have received lockdown tickets for such innocuous things as going ice fishing,
00:03:01.960 taking a horse to a Calgary protest,
00:03:05.500 and hosting the Easter Bunny at an outdoor event for little kids.
00:03:09.840 But the work for me is more than just telling the story of the bad government actions during the pandemic lockdown.
00:03:15.100 It's also about offering help to someone on what could possibly be the worst day of the pandemic for them.
00:03:22.920 The day they receive a crushing fine for doing truly absolutely nothing wrong.
00:03:29.220 So I thought I would catch up with one of the incredible Alberta law firms
00:03:33.960 working so hard on these fight the fines cases and get a little bit of a state of the union.
00:03:40.680 So here is Chad Williamson from Williamson Law.
00:03:43.480 And Chad fights every single fight the fines case like it is the most important one at his law firm,
00:03:50.800 whether it's a $1,000 ticket or something that may send his client to jail.
00:03:56.700 Take a listen.
00:03:57.800 Well, here we are nearly a month out from the purported lifting of the aggressive and oppressive government lockdown restrictions
00:04:05.980 that seemed to disappear on July 1st for, quote unquote, the best summer ever.
00:04:13.060 The government is still continuing to prosecute dozens of these cases in our offices,
00:04:19.100 continuing to aggressively defend our clients against some of these charges in the fight the fines campaigns.
00:04:26.320 Now, we've successfully had dozens of them withdrawn or discharged,
00:04:31.120 but the government continues to amp up its enforcement of some of these while withdrawing some of the more precarious charges and claims that they have against business owners
00:04:43.680 and restauranteurs and regular Albertans pursuant to some of these regulatory charges.
00:04:50.000 Now, the fight is not over.
00:04:52.160 We've got a whole bunch of stuff happening on the whistle stop file and some of our other clients that have appeared in other videos.
00:04:59.660 But most specifically, the fight the fines claims, we are going to fight these until the end.
00:05:04.440 And whether or not the government wants to discharge these claims, try to save themselves some money and not being forced to actually run fulsome due process trials for each one of these,
00:05:18.400 we will meet these every step of the way through the fight the fines program.
00:05:23.360 Now, we haven't had, as I said, one conviction to date.
00:05:27.320 That doesn't mean that the battle is over and we think that the government will cherry pick a couple of files that they will want to prosecute to the fullest extent
00:05:37.560 to make an example of anyone who may have disagreed with some of the implemented lockdown restrictions.
00:05:44.140 Well, isn't that special?
00:05:45.980 Now that the lockdowns are over in Alberta and Albertans are allegedly now enjoying their greatest summer ever,
00:05:52.700 the provincial government is nevertheless still cherry picking those Albertans who committed the egregious offense of merely trying to make a living or trying to have some fun.
00:06:05.140 And the government is still going after these people legally.
00:06:09.960 Yet the ostensible policy reason has little to do with health and safety and, well, it has a whole lot to do with making an example of alleged scoff laws.
00:06:20.720 Amazing.
00:06:21.200 And joining me now for more on this story is Sheila Gunn-Reed.
00:06:25.400 How are you doing, Sheila?
00:06:26.860 I'm great, David.
00:06:27.920 Thanks for having me on the show.
00:06:29.180 It's always a pleasure.
00:06:30.680 Sheila, this is surreal.
00:06:32.340 I personally think that all of these fight the fines cases should be thrown out of a court, should be thrown out of courts, rather.
00:06:39.640 But the Alberta government seems to be harboring a grudge against certain citizens.
00:06:45.200 Why the vindictiveness toward people who surely have already suffered enough?
00:06:53.580 Because these people embarrass the government, many of whom on an international scale.
00:06:57.400 When you look at Pastor James Coates and...
