00:01:32.540 in which we look back at some of the very best commentaries of the week by your favourite rebels.
00:01:37.800 I'm your host, David Menzies.
00:01:39.580 Well, another climate catastrophe conference kicks off on Sunday in Glasgow, Scotland.
00:01:46.660 And, hoot man, check out who's flying all over Europe,
00:01:50.560 telling others to reduce their carbon footprints while he ramps up his own emissions.
00:01:56.780 Yes, that would be none other than Justin Trudeau.
00:01:59.980 Sheila Gunn-Reed shall try to explain the hypocrisy of a prime minister who preaches,
00:02:06.780 do as I say, not as I do, when it comes to climate change.
00:02:11.800 And, say, when you go to a restaurant to pick up some takeout grub,
00:02:16.540 you certainly don't expect to get grilled about your vaccination status, right?
00:02:21.480 But such was the case at a Quebec subway franchise.
00:02:24.660 And if you didn't have your papers or your QR codes,
00:02:29.820 then no soup or no sandwich for you.
00:02:34.280 Alexa Lavoie will try to make sense of it all.
00:02:37.920 And letters, we get your letters.
00:02:39.300 We get them every minute of every day.
00:02:41.220 And you had plenty to say about my interview
00:02:44.160 with Toronto Police Detective Constable Adrienne Gilbasi.
00:02:49.220 She's now under investigation herself by the Toronto Police.
00:02:53.400 Her alleged crime, she spoke at a freedom rally last month in Toronto,
00:02:59.500 out of uniform and on her own time.
00:03:02.460 And she might even face dismissal for doing so.
00:03:07.320 Hey, whatever happened to freedom of speech and freedom of expression?
00:03:12.360 Those are your rebels.
00:03:13.560 Now let's round them up.
00:03:14.700 Friends, it's the spooky season.
00:03:22.480 When all the little ghouls and goblins come out to scare you.
00:03:25.760 Oh, I'm not talking about Halloween,
00:03:27.360 although Halloween is also very quickly approaching.
00:03:30.640 No, today I'm talking about the UN Climate Change Conference.
00:03:34.480 And it takes place at the end of the month in Glasgow.
00:03:38.560 Now you might see this globalist shindig referred to as COP26.
00:03:43.960 That's the Conference of the Parties, the 26th iteration of it.
00:03:48.300 And it's where all the fancy people from all around the world get together
00:03:51.380 behind closed doors, behind security barriers and walls
00:03:54.660 to decide how you, the little people, how you're going to live your life,
00:03:58.300 how much more expensive it's going to get,
00:04:00.980 and how much you need to tithe of your hard-earned money
00:04:04.220 to the Church of Mother Earth to be a good,
00:04:07.160 dues-paying congregant in their little doomsday cult.
00:04:11.360 Between 30,000 and 50,000 climate change activists, bureaucrats, and politicians,
00:04:17.160 and I say that as though they are distinct groups,
00:04:20.580 but, you know, the Venn diagram of those three groups is more like a circle.
00:04:24.860 Anyway, all these people every year converge on a city around the world,
00:04:30.160 except for last year because of what they keep telling me is a real existential threat,
00:04:35.380 you know, COVID, that caused them to cancel their party.
00:04:39.240 Now these people all engage in transcontinental airline travel
00:04:43.540 to go to a conference that could very easily be held via Zoom
00:04:47.800 to tell you that driving your SUV to take your kids to hockey or soccer practice
00:04:54.040 is the reason they think the Earth is dying.
00:04:57.380 And we also only have 12 years or 10 years or 5 years left or whatever.
00:05:03.180 The latest doomsday timeline is offered to us by teenage climate scolds
00:05:08.720 who've never held a real job or paid a tax or done without anything.
00:05:13.400 Now, not one to miss a chance to tell the world what an environmentalist he truly is,
00:05:18.020 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is also on his way to Glasgow too.
00:05:22.360 Take a look at this globetrotting itinerary.
00:05:25.700 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today announced that he will travel to Europe
00:05:29.260 for a bilateral visit to the Netherlands before participating in the Group of 20
00:05:34.420 or the G20 Leaders Summit in Italy and the United Nations Climate Change Conference,
00:05:39.440 COP26, in the United Kingdom.
00:05:41.920 Boy, that's a lot of travel.
00:05:44.040 The Prime Minister will travel to The Hague, Netherlands, on October 29th, 2021,
00:05:48.960 where he will meet with Prime Minister Mark Rutte and other Dutch representatives
00:05:54.020 to discuss both countries' shared priorities and to further the strong ties
00:05:59.400 between Canada and the Netherlands.
00:06:02.000 Oh, then, we're not done.
00:06:03.720 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will then travel to Rome, Italy, October 30th to 31st
00:06:10.200 to attend the G20 Leaders Summit.
00:06:12.860 The Prime Minister will highlight Canada's contributions to the global COVID-19 pandemic response
00:06:17.840 and economic recovery, including support for low- and middle-income countries.
00:06:23.540 Not Canadian low-income families.
00:06:25.960 Anyways, he will also highlight Canada's ambitious actions to cut pollution
00:06:30.640 while creating new middle-class jobs and accelerating the transition to clean energy.
00:06:37.140 Oh, he's doing that, is he?
00:06:39.420 Following the G20 Leaders Summit, Prime Minister Trudeau will travel to Glasgow, United Kingdom,
00:06:45.440 from November 1st to 2nd, 2021, to participate in COP26.
00:06:51.220 That's the UN Climate Change Conference.
00:06:53.000 They just like to use that fancy acronym for some reason.
00:06:57.000 At COP26, the Prime Minister will work with other leaders to accelerate global climate action
00:07:02.300 to reduce pollution and meet targets outlined in the Paris Agreement
00:07:06.260 while creating economic growth for everyone.
00:07:09.020 He's not going to do that.
00:07:10.800 At the conference, he will also highlight Canada's leadership in the fight against climate change.
00:07:15.560 This includes setting a strengthened 2030 emissions reduction target,
00:07:21.300 putting a price on pollution,
00:07:22.800 passing legislation to require net zero emissions by 2050,
00:07:26.120 and doubling, doubling people,
00:07:28.980 Canada's financial contribution to support climate action in developing countries.
00:07:33.540 Wow, that's a whole lot of travelling, Justin is doing,
00:07:37.460 in order to convey a whole lot of virtue signalling.
00:07:41.020 But wait just a second,
00:07:42.680 all this jet-setting will result in a whole lot of completely unnecessary carbon emissions.
00:07:50.960 Why doesn't the Prime Minister lead by example
00:07:54.040 by staying off his swang jet and attending these meetings via Zoom or Skype?
00:07:59.600 But no, Justin Trudeau, he just loves being an international globetrotter.
00:08:04.960 Carbon footprint be damned,
00:08:07.460 as a certain Swedish climate huckster would say.
00:08:11.220 How dare you?
00:08:12.740 And joining me now for more on climate hypocrisy
00:08:16.280 to the power of infinity
00:08:18.040 is our chief reporter,
00:08:20.060 Sheila Gunn-Reed.
00:08:20.760 How you doing there, Sheila?
00:08:22.240 Hey David, thanks for having me on the show.
00:08:24.320 This was such a fun story to do
00:08:25.940 because the one thing that makes the constant scolding about climate change tolerable
00:08:31.400 is running around and pointing out the hypocrisy and being smug about it.
00:08:35.160 And so I really enjoyed that.
00:08:36.760 And you do it so well, my friend.
00:08:38.940 But Sheila, I don't get it.
00:08:40.740 As you pointed out in your piece,
00:08:42.740 last year's climate catastrophe meet and greet
00:08:45.820 was done remotely due to COVID-19.
00:08:49.220 But wait a second,
00:08:50.120 I thought with all this masking and social distancing
00:08:54.560 and mandatory vaccine passports that are now in place,
00:08:59.880 I thought COVID is still a clear and present danger.
00:09:03.980 So how do these bigwigs justify this mass gathering in the first place?
00:09:09.520 They don't have to justify it.
00:09:11.680 We're just the little people who foot the bill for it all.
00:09:14.500 It's how you know that they don't believe any of these things are existential emergencies.
00:09:21.020 They didn't know a lot about COVID last year,
00:09:24.020 so they went online.
00:09:25.820 Okay, great.
00:09:26.480 Now you know it's doable online.
00:09:28.000 At least, you know,
00:09:28.700 when you're going to make these backroom decisions to control my life,
00:09:32.620 you can at least practice what you preach.
00:09:34.940 But they're not doing that this year
00:09:36.680 because apparently COVID is not the existential crisis that they keep telling us it is
00:09:43.680 because it's only meant to control our lives.
00:09:46.100 But they gave themselves exemptions for gathering for this conference.
00:09:51.280 But they also don't think climate change is the existential crisis that they keep telling us it is.
00:09:56.040 Because every single year,
00:09:58.820 thousands, tens of thousands of these people hop on planes,
00:10:02.180 fly from all over the world,
00:10:03.640 converge on a city,
00:10:04.620 have a bunch of high-carbon parties,
00:10:07.680 decide how your municipality is going to run its recycling program
00:10:11.920 and the building codes that mandate low-flow toilets and low-flow showerheads,
00:10:16.460 all the things that really affect you on a day-to-day basis
00:10:19.340 are decided at these things.
00:10:22.380 And they fly in to do it,
00:10:24.760 so they must not think that the climate is changing in a way
00:10:29.060 that will see us all come to an untimely end
00:10:32.480 in 12 years or 10 years
00:10:34.740 or whatever some little teenage girl is yelling at us about now.
00:10:38.240 Well, it's gone from a little teenage girl to a CGI raptor.
00:10:45.400 We talked about that ad the other day on the live stream.
00:10:50.340 A dinosaur, a fake dinosaur, played by Jack Black, lecturing humanity.
00:10:56.160 Don't make the same mistake we did in taking that meteor for granted.
00:11:00.980 But I digress.
00:11:03.240 Sheila, when you speak about the unnecessary carbon getting there by jet,
00:11:09.240 that's just the beginning.
00:11:11.140 And folks, if you think Sheila is exaggerating,
00:11:14.220 I can tell you both Sheila and I have been to these UN powwows before.
00:11:18.420 Sheila in Germany, in Poland, myself a few years ago, in Morocco.
00:11:24.180 And it's so bad, isn't it, Sheila?
00:11:25.920 We see seven passenger SUVs for the diplomats in which one person often is the only occupant
00:11:33.260 being chauffeured around.
00:11:35.200 But in between the chauffeuring around, they are sitting there,
00:11:39.040 fleets of SUVs with V8 engines idling with the AC or the heating cranked to max,
00:11:47.380 lest the precious snowflake diplomat get uncomfortable.
00:11:51.220 It is the worst misuse of carbon just to leave a vehicle like that idling,
00:11:58.360 and they idle fleets of it.
00:12:00.440 Sheila, the optics and the reality stink.
00:12:04.160 You would think if these people cared one iota about the message they're doing,
00:12:10.100 they would walk the walk as well as talk the talk.
00:12:12.900 But clearly, they don't do that.
00:12:15.720 No, because they don't care.
00:12:17.160 This isn't about the climate.
00:12:18.800 The climate is just their vehicle to control your life in much the same way as COVID is
00:12:24.300 the vehicle to control your life or has been for the last 20 months.
00:12:27.860 It's about a wealth transfer from wealthier countries to poorer countries, from wealthier
00:12:33.580 people, which actually includes middle class people to other people.
00:12:38.020 Transfer of wealth from the middle class, incidentally, to the government and to businesses.
00:12:43.080 They really don't care about these things because they don't walk the walk, and they don't even
00:12:50.820 realize.
00:12:51.900 You know, if you were a true believer in something, for example, I don't think it shocks anybody
00:12:56.920 to know that I'm Catholic.
00:12:58.220 And so I look at the world through a very specific lens, right?
00:13:01.900 I see it with Catholic eyeballs.
00:13:04.080 But these people don't look at the world through environmentalist eyeballs.
00:13:07.100 They'll walk past the acres and acres, and I'm not exaggerating, of idling buses and limos
00:13:16.240 and not see anything wrong with it.
00:13:18.780 They have environmentalists standing outside the conferences handing out, you know, their
00:13:24.440 doomsday cult literature about what you have to do to stop the world from ending.
00:13:28.540 And it's all handbills, pamphlets.
00:13:31.820 They're handing out these pieces of paper that get tossed into the garbage three feet
00:13:36.700 ahead of them.
00:13:37.680 And it's just overflowing out of the garbage.
00:13:40.600 And they don't recognize the waste.
00:13:42.840 They don't hear the persistent hum of the diesel generators powering their conference in
00:13:49.240 Bonn, Germany.
00:13:50.580 They didn't seem to notice the coal miners museum right next door when I was in Poland.
00:13:57.820 Like, they don't see this stuff, and they don't see the hypocrisy because they don't
00:14:03.420 actually believe in any of it.
00:14:04.900 It's just the thing they need to control you and take your money away from you.
00:14:09.420 No, they are true elitists, Sheila, that's for sure.
00:14:12.360 But by the same standard, my friend, I think there's a way to dial back the climate hysteria,
00:14:20.920 the carbon taxes, etc., with a degree of grace.
00:14:25.140 And by that, I mean, even if you and I bought into man-made climate change, even if we thought
00:14:31.260 carbon taxes and carbon levies were a good thing, our elected officials could say, you
00:14:36.660 know what, COVID-19 really threw us a curveball these past two years.
00:14:41.680 Yes, climate change is a problem.
00:14:43.940 Yes, a carbon tax might be part of the solution.
00:14:46.880 But now is not the time.
00:14:48.600 We have seen trillions and trillions of economic damage done to the world economy, and we have
00:14:57.620 to focus our attention on getting back to normal, getting back to business again.
00:15:03.900 Surely, Sheila, this could be a way to downplay all this carbon hysteria.
00:15:08.960 For them, though, they see COVID as an opportunity.
00:15:15.580 For them, they see, okay, well, now we have these vaccine passports.
00:15:19.540 It's got your vaccine status on there.
00:15:21.700 Why don't we put your carbon status on there?
00:15:24.080 It becomes a social credit program.
00:15:25.880 They are already examining it.
00:15:27.820 They see the economic downturn that hurts normal people, but not them because they're so rich
00:15:32.560 and powerful.
00:15:33.260 They're sort of insulated from it.
00:15:34.720 They see the economic downturn as an opportunity.
00:15:38.440 They look at it and say, oh, everybody was locked in their homes, and so carbon emissions
00:15:43.600 went down.
00:15:44.340 Let's just keep a good thing going.
00:15:46.220 And on some level, I think that's why some of these people are so happy about lockdowns
00:15:50.760 for us, not for them, because it's saving the earth.
00:15:55.300 Sure, it's ruining your life, separating you from your grandparents and stripping you of any
00:16:00.060 wealth you've accumulated in your lifetime.
00:16:02.000 But look it, Mother Earth is happy.
00:16:05.060 So, I mean, they really don't see COVID as, you know, like, oh, we have lessons learned
00:16:11.180 about how to hold conferences remotely.
00:16:13.240 They don't look at it that way.
00:16:14.800 They look at it as, ah, we were able to lock people in their homes using what we told them
00:16:20.600 was an existential crisis.
00:16:22.400 Let's do it for this existential crisis, too.
00:16:24.640 You know, Sheila, you are so right.
00:16:27.520 Because they are so elitist, that means they are insulated, and that means they simply lack
00:16:36.540 empathy for the common Joe and Jane out there working away, trying to pay a mortgage, trying
00:16:43.120 to put ever-increasing price groceries on the table.
00:16:46.960 They have no commonality.
00:16:48.860 They have no common ground with what the middle class is going through these days.
00:16:54.320 A next question for you.
00:16:55.480 You mentioned, and this is very important, I think, wealth transfer.
00:16:59.760 When Justin Trudeau starts talking about carbon taxes, when Justin Trudeau starts talking about
00:17:05.280 accelerating the process to deadlines, be it 2030, 2050, what have you, I instantly grabbed
00:17:13.700 for my wallet.
00:17:14.700 Oh, yeah.
00:17:15.000 I think I'm going to be shaken down.
00:17:17.360 Is there going to be some kind of awful surprise coming out of this conference?
00:17:21.940 Some statement by our prime minister, who we both know likes to go off script when it
00:17:27.660 comes to virtue signaling, in terms of even more and higher taxes for Canadians?
00:17:34.600 Well, he's going to have to do something to keep all those promises he's going to make
00:17:38.540 at the climate change conference.
00:17:40.480 He's already talking about all that Canada is doing to help the developing world fight
00:17:45.640 climate change, where I would suggest that we need to do more to help the developing world
00:17:50.700 get access to cheap, reliable fossil fuels so that they can lift themselves out of poverty,
00:17:54.540 misery, and short life expectancies.
00:17:57.360 But Justin Trudeau is already talking about that wealth transfer from Canadians who are struggling
00:18:03.260 to recover from the economic devastation of the pandemic and who are dealing with skyrocketing
00:18:08.560 inflation.
00:18:10.700 He's going to take more of your money to give to the developing world.
00:18:14.220 And he said as much when he announced his travel.
00:18:16.820 So I guess grab your wallet.
00:18:19.060 Hold on tight.
00:18:20.380 It never ends.
00:18:21.100 Well, Sheila, it was a fantastic piece.
00:18:23.220 And on our way to Sunday, that's Halloween.
00:18:26.420 I know you're a big Halloween fan.
00:18:27.800 I want to wish you a happy Halloween.
00:18:29.240 But please, for the love of God, Sheila, if you carve a jack-o-lantern, don't put a candle
00:18:34.060 in it, think of the carbon footprint that paraffin candle is going to cause in your neck
00:18:39.700 of the woods.
00:18:41.020 I'm going to put a diesel generator in my pumpkin.
00:18:44.300 And in the other pumpkin, I'm going to put a big lump of coal and light that up.
00:18:50.000 Okay.
00:18:50.640 I bet you will do that.
00:18:52.400 Sheila, thank you so much again.
00:18:54.440 Thanks, David.
00:18:55.200 Have a great weekend.
00:18:56.200 You too.
00:18:56.940 And that was Sheila Gunn-Reed somewhere in the northern hinterland of Alberta.
00:19:01.800 Keep it here, folks.
00:19:02.960 More of Rebel Roundup to come right after this.
00:19:10.720 So, hey, Alexa, Lavoie for Ribbon News.
00:19:13.960 I'm here in Kendiak because I heard that someone had been canceled from the subway just right
00:19:20.480 there for just wanted to take out because it didn't have the QR code.
00:19:28.140 But you need to know that Quebec City, take out and drive him through, it's still allowed
00:19:37.360 for vax and unvaccinated people.
00:19:40.060 So, you should not be canceled because you don't have your QR code.
00:19:43.440 So, I went there to discuss with the worker there.
00:19:48.520 And what they said to me is yesterday, he was asking the QR code not because he needed
00:19:56.560 to ask it, but because he was curious to know who had the QR code because it was the first
00:20:03.220 day.
00:20:03.440 It's not supposed to be because medical information is confidential if you not have a word reason
00:20:12.920 to ask the QR code or the proof of vaccination.
00:20:16.920 So, if a subway can do it, imagine how many businesses now who infringe the rule to ask the vax
00:20:29.120 passport for maybe no reason to customer.
00:20:34.880 So, we need, please, to go and sign our petition.
00:20:39.140 Novaxpassport.ca and please make sure to sign it to follow us and we need to send a message
00:20:48.300 that we don't want the vaccine passport anymore because this kind of businesses can violate
00:20:56.720 and infringe your rights anytime just because they are curious to know if you are vaccinated
00:21:04.180 or not.
00:21:05.180 Protect your information.
00:21:34.180 All right.
00:21:35.460 To Elm Joaquin, how long has it been?
00:21:49.220 Do you want to go?
00:21:49.560 Do you want to go in in the United States?
00:22:03.000 I had a question for you. One of my friends was here yesterday and she would refuse to be served because she didn't have her QR code.
00:22:15.000 Is it possible that you did that yesterday?
00:22:17.000 Yes.
00:22:18.000 There are two weeks and we are not really obligated to do it.
00:22:23.000 There are 14 days of lunch so that the restaurants can set up.
00:22:26.000 Yes, but the take-out and in the car, they are not supposed to have a QR code.
00:22:34.000 Yesterday, I asked her, but it's not obligatory.
00:22:39.000 She said it was just to eat inside.
00:22:42.000 I'm not supposed to have a QR code.
00:22:45.000 She told me that she refused to be served if she didn't have her QR code.
00:22:53.000 You know, folks, I don't know about you, but when I visit a Subway sandwich franchise, I'm there to chow down on a tuna sub, assuming that's actually tuna I'm eating.
00:23:05.000 But that's a story for another day.
00:23:07.000 But what I'm not there for is to have some staffer ask me for my papers or a QR code, especially if I'm taking that sandwich to go.
00:23:20.000 But apparently some folks don't know their role.
00:23:24.000 And such was the case at one Subway restaurant in Quebec in which a sandwich maker reinvented himself as the city's chief medical officer, picking and choosing which customers would receive takeout service based on medical status.
00:23:41.000 What the hell?
00:23:43.000 And joining me now with more on this story is our Quebec based reporter, Alexa Lavoie.
00:23:49.000 Bonjour.
00:23:50.000 Hello.
00:23:51.000 Hello there, my friend.
00:23:52.000 So, Alexa, some of the employees at this particular Subway store were acting completely inappropriately.
00:24:00.000 The question is this, why were they acting in such an inappropriate fashion in the first place?
00:24:10.000 So, what I heard, like, just before I went there, so I heard that the day before I went, some people had been refused, just refused to get served because they didn't have their QR code.
00:24:27.000 So, I was like, how outrageous is it?
00:24:30.000 I need to go there and I need to see by myself that is real.
00:24:35.000 And I asked them and when the answer to me because they were curious.
00:24:41.000 Curious, but it's none of their business.
00:24:46.000 Now, maybe if they're there for indoor dining, that's one thing.
00:24:50.000 But if it's takeout, if it's delivery, if it's drive through, that person, that customer's medical status is none of your damn business.
00:25:01.000 So, is this a degree of their virtue signaling?
00:25:04.000 They think that they're doing society a favor by making sure everyone's being vaccinated?
00:25:10.000 Is that what we have here, Alexa?
00:25:12.000 So, I think some people think that they are, I don't know, superior because they work there.
00:25:19.000 So, they think they have the right to ask medical information when they should not.
00:25:24.000 Because it's not legal to ask the medical information if you don't have a reasonable reason to ask for it.
00:25:34.000 And that wasn't reasonable if it was just to pick up a freaking subway.
00:25:39.000 Yeah.
00:25:41.000 And, you know, that's the thing, Alexa.
00:25:45.000 Because of COVID in the last year and a half, one of the sectors that has been so brutally hurt is the restaurant business.
00:25:55.000 Especially if you run a sit down type of restaurant.
00:25:58.000 And I know Subway is a bit of sit down and take out.
00:26:01.000 But you would think that operators would be hungry for business, no pun intended.
00:26:07.000 You would think that they'd want to sell as many sandwiches as they could possibly do.
00:26:13.000 And instead, they're going, well, a sandwich for you, no soup for you, like the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld.
00:26:20.000 What gives?
00:26:25.000 But, as I say, first of all, they still struggle to have, like, customers.
00:26:32.000 Like, since the pandemic, like, all restaurants take out place struggle for their income right now.
00:26:41.000 They struggle to have people.
00:26:43.000 So, you would, like, wonder why they are doing that on the first day.
00:26:48.000 That will actually stop people to go.
00:26:51.000 But, I think it's not really the business.
00:26:54.000 It's the employee who acts not correctly.
00:26:58.000 So, my thing, I call the manager and say, what are you going to do if your employee doesn't respect the rule and for respecting and protecting your customer of that in the future?
00:27:15.000 You know?
00:27:16.000 And you know what?
00:27:17.000 I hope, I don't want to see anyone lose their job, of course, but I hope that manager, that owner of the franchise reprimands these employees, at least just lays down the law.
00:27:27.000 Look, if they're here for takeout, it's none of your damn business what their medical history is.
00:27:33.000 And, you know, Subway is a huge player in the fast food sector.
00:27:38.000 But I can tell you, Alexa, next time you're in Toronto, I'll drive you around the city.
00:27:42.000 I'll show you McDonald's.
00:27:44.000 I'll show you Tim Hortons that have closed down due to this pandemic.
00:27:48.000 This has been so serious.
00:27:50.000 But, again, last question.
00:27:52.000 I think, Alexa, we have a segment out there, I call them the COVID Karens, that they want to go beyond the call of duty when it comes to, I don't know, taking all the fun out of going to an event or going to a restaurant.
00:28:07.000 And by that, I mean, on Labor Day, the Hamilton Tiger Cats were having their annual Labor Day Classic with the Toronto Argonauts Canadian Football League.
00:28:18.000 And that was Labor Day.
00:28:19.000 The passport, the vaccine passport in Ontario didn't kick in until September 22nd.
00:28:26.000 And yet to go to that game, the Hamilton Tiger Cats said to their fans, you need to be double jabbed or you don't get a seat.
00:28:34.000 Yet the law was still more than two weeks away.
00:28:38.000 Again, I think this is self-righteous individuals saying, look how pure we are.
00:28:45.000 We're making sure even beyond government mandates that you get vaccinated.
00:28:51.000 What are your thoughts, my friend?
00:28:53.000 My thought is the day where our primer, premiere, sorry, say to all the businesses, if you need it for your business and you think it's for the good of your business, go and use it.
00:29:09.000 That day, everybody was like, that opened the door to anybody who wants to use it to go and use it.
00:29:23.000 Well, you know what? And if I was in business, I would say not until I'm bloody well have to do it by law.
00:29:32.000 And maybe then even I'm not going to do it because I think this is immoral and unethical.
00:29:37.000 But to jump ahead of the actual mandates, I think that is pathetic and you're doing a disservice to your customers.
00:29:45.000 Alexa, I hope you go back to that subway in the days or weeks ahead.
00:29:49.000 See if they still have the QR code police asking you for your papers before you get your 12 inch turkey sub.
00:29:58.000 Let's see if they've learned a lesson from this report.
00:30:03.000 So thank you so much. And you have a great weekend, my friend.
00:30:07.000 I would have a tea that one for you.
00:30:10.000 Or whatever that tuna fish is.
00:30:15.000 Oh, gosh. And that was Alexa Lavoie in Quebec City.
00:30:19.000 Folks, keep it here. More of Rebel Roundup to come right after this.
00:30:24.000 Well, folks, by all accounts, Toronto Police Detective Constable Adrian Gilvesi is a superb cop for the past 11 years.
00:30:36.000 She's done a great job in terms of putting bad guys behind bars and keeping Hogtown safe for its law abiding citizens.
00:30:43.000 But now Adrian herself is under investigation by the Toronto Police Service.
00:30:49.000 Her alleged crime?
00:30:50.000 Well, she attended last month's Freedom Rally at Queen's Park on her free time and out of uniform.
00:30:58.000 And she spoke her mind in terms of what it's like to be an ethical member of law enforcement during the COVID-19 pandemic.
00:31:06.000 And believe me, the powers that be, we're not amused.
00:31:11.000 And joining me now is Adrian Gilvesi herself.
00:31:14.000 Hey there. How you doing, Adrian?
00:31:16.000 Hey, David. Thank you for having me.
00:31:18.000 Oh, it's a pleasure.
00:31:19.000 You know, Adrian, first of all, I want to thank you for having the courage to be a member of law enforcement and to go out there and speak your mind.
00:31:27.000 As far as I can tell, you did nothing wrong. You were out of uniform. You were on your own time. You were not on duty.
00:31:37.000 What is the issue in terms of you appearing at that Freedom Rally?
00:31:44.000 I think what it was explained to me was the fact that because I have been out there in the media, I was recognizable to be a member of the Toronto Police Service and therefore they believed that I was portraying myself as a Toronto Police Service.
00:32:02.000 But, and yet, I don't think you said anything that was, you know, dishonorable.
00:32:09.000 You know, I think police officers like yourself, and I've spoken to many of them off the record because I guess, well, they don't want to go through what you're going through.
00:32:19.000 Their message to me is tackling people who are peaceful protesters in the city square.
00:32:27.000 This is not something they signed up for.
00:32:30.000 And from what you said at the rally, I think you have a similar set of concerns, don't you?
00:32:37.000 Absolutely. I've spoken to many officers from across Canada over the last year and a half who share the same sentiments as I.
00:32:47.000 They are afraid to speak out because of the repercussions and reprisals that come as a result of speaking out against this.
00:32:58.000 And Adrian, did you, I mean, if we were to go back in time to September 18th, I believe was the date.
00:33:05.000 Would you still, knowing what's happened to you right now, would you still have attended that Freedom Rally?
00:33:12.000 Would you still have spoken publicly?
00:33:15.000 Absolutely.
00:33:17.000 Absolutely.
00:33:18.000 So, riddle me this, dear viewers.
00:33:20.000 Detective Constable Adrian Gilvasi is now under internal investigation by the Toronto Police Service,
00:33:27.000 simply for speaking her mind at a Freedom Rally that took place at Queen's Park in September, on September 18th.
00:33:35.000 She was out of uniform and her speech was made on her own time.
00:33:40.000 And this is apparently harmful to the reputation of the service, according to Toronto Police.
00:33:47.000 Yet, going back to the summer of 2020, hundreds of Toronto Police officers, including the chief at the time,
00:33:54.000 took a knee to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
00:33:59.000 And this was done while the officers were in uniform and on duty.
00:34:05.000 Incredible.
00:34:06.000 In any event, you had plenty to say about this heaping helping of hypocrisy.
00:34:13.000 Jim Jolie Jack writes,
00:34:15.000 Balls of steel, what a rarity.
00:34:18.000 A law enforcement officer with a free mind of her own.
00:34:21.000 A really brave lady.
00:34:23.000 Oh, she is brave, Jim.
00:34:24.000 And it would be a true crime if she was disciplined or terminated for merely speaking her mind on her free time.
00:34:34.000 Agent Zero Red writes,
00:34:36.000 As a Canadian citizen, I'd rather have police officers who feel free to speak their minds
00:34:42.000 than officers who only spout and tout the official message, whatever it happens to be on whatever issue,
00:34:49.000 of their nation's government at all times.
00:34:52.000 The thought that law enforcement is denying the basic civil rights of not only Canadian citizens,
00:35:00.000 but of their own members of law enforcement is disgusting and incomprehensible.
00:35:07.000 Oh, I agree, Agent Zero Red.
00:35:10.000 In fact, it makes me bristle whenever I hear law enforcement officers state that old chest that,
00:35:16.000 you know, I'm just following orders.
00:35:18.000 That phrase kind of reminds me of what certain uniformed personnel were saying in Germany some 85 years ago
00:35:26.000 to justify their actions.
00:35:28.000 Have we not learned anything from those dark days?
00:35:33.000 Old School writes,
00:35:34.000 If she's not in uniform, she's a regular citizen.
00:35:37.000 She can protest.
00:35:39.000 Indeed, Old School, this is the crux of the matter when it comes to freedom of expression.
00:35:44.000 Namely, are citizens on their free time allowed to speak out?
00:35:49.000 Or are we supposed to be slaves to our employers 24-7?
00:35:54.000 Let's hope the investigators cut Adrian some slack here.
00:35:59.000 In the name of common decency, she did nothing wrong.
00:36:04.000 And Yaja N writes,
00:36:07.000 We had a Victoria police officer and acting senior sergeant here in Australia go on record in an interview.
00:36:15.000 She resigned immediately after because she knew she'd be in breach of the Vic poll policy,
00:36:22.000 where all police members were essentially to remain apolitical, particularly in public.
00:36:29.000 Perhaps there's a similar policy in Canada.
00:36:32.000 I do appreciate this policy being a retired member myself.
00:36:37.000 When working with the public in normal circumstances, our political preferences must have no bearing on serving the community at large.
00:36:46.000 I suppose you could say that about politicians, but that's for another time.
00:36:51.000 I think this global event that goes beyond politics is an exception.
00:36:57.000 Blind obedience, when it is a contravention of human rights, is a crime.
00:37:03.000 Everyone, including the police, must question the acts of barbarism that were confronted daily for nearly two years now.
00:37:11.000 So to Adrian, congratulations on this bravery that is far greater than probably any other bravery she's demonstrated previously.
00:37:22.000 Well said, Yaja.
00:37:24.000 But again, if the police are to remain apolitical, then how does one explain their massive show of support the world over for the Black Lives Matter movement last summer?
00:37:35.000 And these officers, as I said earlier, were in uniform and on duty when they bent the knee.
00:37:42.000 So if there is indeed a policy of police officers remaining apolitical, then surely it must be enforced across the board regardless of the issue at hand.
00:37:53.000 But clearly, that is not the case these days.
00:37:57.000 Indeed, the police brass seems to frown on certain political statements while completely embracing other political statements.
00:38:07.000 Such a so-called policy is not only completely hypocritical, it's also a joke.
00:38:14.000 A joke without a punchline.
00:38:16.000 Well, that wraps up another edition of Rebel Roundup.
00:38:19.000 Thanks so much for joining us.
00:38:21.000 See you next week.
00:38:22.000 And hey folks, never forget, without risk, there can be no glory.
00:38:26.000 Good night.
