00:05:26.620 Alas, Ron McLean's essay on free speech and free expression published on Sportsnet.ca had absolutely nothing to do with Don Cherry or standing up for war veterans.

00:05:42.260 Rather, the focus of Ron's essay is all about denouncing the NHL and the NHL Players Association for enacting a ban on rainbow-colored hockey tape.

00:05:58.180 Apparently, the spirit unicorns comprising the Rainbow Mafia are having a tantrum over this turn of events.

00:06:11.460 In any event, if you can believe it, Ron starts his essay with a quotation from feminist Elizabeth Cady Stanton dating back to 1860.

00:06:33.600 Now, Stanton was speaking about women getting the right to vote.

00:06:38.400 That was, of course, a just and noble cause.

00:06:42.460 But McLean is fretting over the lack of rainbow-hued hockey tape in NHL arenas this season.

00:06:50.140 A lack of so-called pride tape is tantamount to a human rights violation.

00:06:58.180 Anyway, Ron goes on to state, quote,

00:07:00.820 The NHL, in consultation with the NHL Players Association, decided that the no-pride tape policy was simply an offshoot of the sweaters being removed from the 250 theme nights to avoid dissension in the dressing room and distractions in the media.

00:07:29.540 Actually, getting rid of this ongoing pride circus is precisely the point.

00:07:36.600 Getting down with the whole L-G-G-B-D-T-T-T-I-Q-Q-A-A-P-P agenda was becoming a big distraction for the NHL.

00:10:07.080 Predictably, McClain goes on to invoke the memories of Tommy Smith and John Carlos wearing black power gloves on the medal podium at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.

00:10:25.480 And Muhammad Ali and Billie Jean King and Colin Kaepernick and so on and so on and so forth.

00:10:54.560 Look, if the NHL was, say, banning homosexuals from playing, that would indeed be offside.

00:12:22.420 Now, I did reach out to Ron McClain via email with a few questions about how he has reinvented himself as a free speech, free expression crusader.

00:12:37.580 And to my great surprise, he responded,

00:12:40.720 I truly respect that, folks, because the PR strategy embraced by far too many people in public life these days,

00:12:47.860 including federally elected politicians, is to simply ignore impolite queries.

00:12:55.720 Now, my first question was as follows, quote,

00:12:58.160 As you are well aware, Don Cherry, beloved by millions of Canadians, was cancelled for simply speaking the truth.

00:13:06.220 Why did you not stand up for Don Cherry's right to free speech some four years ago?

00:13:13.220 Ron's response, quote,

00:13:14.760 Even Don knew he didn't speak the truth when he projected a behavior on immigrants.

00:13:20.960 The notion that they were the non-poppy wearers he sees.

00:13:25.300 If it was an innocent mix-up, it was an easier fix.

00:13:30.140 Say you're sorry for the confusion and set the record straight.

00:13:33.620 I obviously spent 72 hours imploring Don to save the situation.

00:13:39.880 But alas, if Don Cherry was offside with his remarks, again, I point out,

00:13:45.980 why was Ron nodding in agreement and giving the big thumbs-up gesture as Don was making those remarks?

00:13:56.660 Also, since Ron McLean began his essay by quoting a feminist,

00:14:10.140 I found this very interesting, given that women's sports are currently under attack

00:14:14.600 by the inclusion of so-called trans women.

00:14:18.800 What is your position regarding biological males who are unfairly competing against biological females?

00:24:30.460 the Jews were chased out and now they're buying them in East Jerusalem, right next, right outside the old city.

00:24:39.520 It's where Yemenite Jews, when they first came to Israel before 48, way before 48,

00:24:52.220 what he was saying to me is for 20 years or so, the Jews that live in there,
