my friends a bit of a break from the pandemic i want to tell you some good news
00:00:17.680
really the first person first piece of good news from american politics in a year exactly a year
00:00:25.400
today it was the u.s election joe biden won the history books say but last night americans pushed
00:00:36.880
back a shocking win for republicans in the fairly deep blue state of virginia and republicans coming
00:00:43.840
within a percent of winning new jersey for crying out loud what's going on and oh my god look at some
00:00:50.000
of their candidates the republicans had i see this as very hopeful a sign that you can't write off
00:00:57.240
america just yet and something i'm a bit jealous of up here i'll take you through all the details
00:01:02.540

today's show tonight a year after the presidential election americans push back hard to the democrats
00:01:40.560
it's november 3rd and this is the ezra levant show
00:01:43.780
why should others go to jail when you're a biggest carbon consumer i know there's 8 500 customers here
00:01:51.540
and you won't give them an answer the only thing i have to say to the government about why i publish it
00:01:59.380
i want to show you a video i saw it this morning i watched it and then i watched it again right away
00:02:09.460
it was so great now it's more than seven minutes long and i don't think i've ever showed you a clip
00:02:14.720
that long before but these seven minutes will go by so quickly you'll want to watch it again too
00:02:20.540
i bet this is a woman with the wonderful name of winsome sears and she's a republican and she just
00:02:29.280
beat a democrat to become the lieutenant governor of the commonwealth of virginia they say lieutenant
00:02:34.120
we say lieutenant um and she's so amazing it'll explain why the media party has deliberately ignored
00:02:40.580
her until last night when they could no longer ignore her she is the first black woman to win a
00:02:47.800
statewide office in virginia history by the way all right here's the video take a look stay with it
00:02:54.920
i am at a loss for words for the first time in my life
00:04:42.280
he came at the height of the civil rights movement from jamaica
00:04:47.280
he came and i said to him but it was such a bad time for us why did you come and he said
00:04:53.440
because america was where the jobs and the opportunities were
00:05:10.880
took any job he could find and he put himself through school and started his american dream
00:05:23.600
and then he came and got me when i was six years old and when i stepped on that pan am
00:05:30.040
going 737 and landed at jfk i landed in a new world
00:05:51.920
when i joined the marine corps i was still a jamaican
00:05:55.840
but this country had done so much for me i was willing willing to die for this country
00:06:31.400
there are some who want to divide us and we must not let that happen
00:06:36.880
they would like us to believe we are back in 1963 when my father came
00:06:43.780
we can live where we want we can eat where we want
00:06:50.880
we have had a black president elected not once but twice
00:06:58.900
in case you haven't noticed i am black and i have been black all my life
00:07:34.900
is we are going to now be about the business of the commonwealth
00:07:44.800
we are going to fully fund our historically black colleges and universities
00:08:07.800
don't know how we're going to make it to day two
00:08:12.100
but he's going to make sure we keep more of our money in our pockets because he's going to get rid of
00:08:26.600
and our children are going to get a good education
00:08:37.600
because education lifted my father out of poverty education lifted me out of poverty
00:08:43.600
education will lift us all out of poverty because we
00:08:47.600
we must have marketable skills so that our children cannot just survive
00:09:15.600
it's a historic night yes it is but i didn't run to make history i just wanted to leave it better than i found it
00:09:22.600
and with your help we're going to do that we're going to have transparent government
00:09:29.600
and as i used to say as we were on the trail hold on virginia help is on the way the cavalry has arrived
00:09:52.600
i want to thank my staff because i couldn't have done it without them we were a ragtag bunch of people
00:10:26.600
well isn't she amazing you can see why the media party hasn't shown you a glimpse of her
00:10:36.600
if she were a democrat you would already know her name
00:10:39.600
and they'd be talking about her as a future presidential candidate
00:10:44.600
some democrats were circulating pictures of her with firearms
00:10:48.600
i think they thought that would hurt her electoral chances
00:10:54.600
not sure if that's true with any veteran of the marines
00:11:00.600
i know many canadians might not like the look of someone with a gun
00:11:06.600
but i find it a sign of strength and confidence and self-determination and the absolute opposite of victimhood
00:11:21.600
and she made a quick reference to historically black colleges that the republicans had pledged to fund
00:11:30.600
there really wasn't a lot of racial talk in her speech
00:11:35.600
because she is not in the vein of a grievance monger
00:12:05.600
and how children in virginia are taught about race
00:12:14.600
and the new governor of virginia glenn youngkin
00:12:22.600
and won a state that just exactly ten years ago today
00:12:25.600
went for biden by a ten percent margin over trump
00:12:35.600
how do you turn that republican in just one year
00:12:42.600
a lot of people have been working from home this past year
00:12:46.600
and their kids have been schooling from home via zoom
00:13:19.600
I don't know if those are even still being taught
00:13:35.600
and that the children themselves and their families are racist
00:45:39.600
and strapping the American and Western economies
00:48:42.600
like the story I'm about to share with you today
00:48:44.600
we're keeping the name of this client confidential
00:49:03.600
because she has been working for an airline company
00:49:53.600
who has been provided at no cost to this client
00:50:19.600
who are potentially facing a loss of employment
00:50:25.600
just to give people a little bit of a sense of your story
00:50:34.600
so the vaccine mandate was announced by my airline
00:50:42.600
and the timelines given for the deadlines given
00:51:08.600
so there's a number of interesting considerations
00:51:29.600
I actually contracted it from a co-worker at work
00:52:04.600
I went to get tested for spike protein antibodies
00:52:22.600
that showed that I have a high level of antibodies
00:52:36.600
and I think what most people will probably find troubling
00:52:46.600
I've had a position that allowed me to work from home
00:53:01.600
you're not being exposed to people on a daily basis
00:53:09.600
but they're not giving you any reasonable accommodation
00:53:50.600
and it's a story we're seeing time and time again
00:54:07.600
how long have you been with roughly Air Canada?
00:54:11.600
how long have you been a unionized employee with them?
00:54:13.600
I've been with my airline for over 20 years now
00:54:58.600
I and many others will be put on personal leave
00:55:32.600
that's enough compromise for most reasonable people
00:55:40.600
they're not looking at the human side of the story
00:56:29.600
actually even vaccinated people are affected now
00:56:38.600
I look at the statistics on the Alberta government website
00:56:45.600
30% of all new cases are actually among fully vaccinated
00:56:49.600
and this has been translating to the hospitalizations as well
00:57:34.600
that it's a very measured and reasonable response
00:57:39.600
do you have any words of encouragement to maybe colleagues
00:57:54.600
and given the number of people we're hearing these stories from
00:58:31.600
well thank you so much for sharing your story with us
00:58:34.600
we're going to continue and touch base with you
00:58:39.600
we're going to meet with Sarah Miller very soon
00:58:43.600
and how we're going to be acting on your behalf
00:58:45.600
but thank you so much for sharing your story with us
00:58:53.600
I am now here with Sarah Miller of JSS Barristers
00:58:56.600
who will be providing us with a bit of an update
00:59:01.600
so if you could maybe just let us know the nature of the case
00:59:06.600
so for background there Air Canada has initiated a vaccine policy
00:59:11.600
mandating all of our employees to be vaccinated
00:59:22.600
and there's really no reason for her to be vaccinated
00:59:30.600
so we have asked the union to argue against the vaccine policy
00:59:47.600
so the next step now is to launch a complaint against the Canada Industrial Relations Board
00:59:53.600
to hopefully get that board to order the union to do something for these employees
01:00:13.600
she also mentioned that she was willing to go through other protocols
01:00:21.600
and all she's seeking is some reasonable accommodations
01:00:24.600
is there any grounds under which they're offering any reasonable accommodations
01:00:28.600
or are they just steadfast and not making any exceptions
01:00:38.600
we have not heard from anybody at Air Canada yet
01:00:50.600
you know we're not in contact with every Air Canada employee
01:00:54.600
that Air Canada is not offering any kind of option
01:01:09.600
and it's really remarkable that the union's not doing anything
01:01:19.600
but you know they'll go and they'll go and grieve a termination related to an employee
01:01:24.600
who's not been pulling their weight for the past five years
01:01:26.600
but they won't grieve somebody who's sitting at home doing a good job
01:01:29.600
and that's something certainly we've seen unions across the board
01:01:33.600
not going to bat for their employees on this specific issue
01:01:36.600
seemingly they forget that they're supposed to be agents for the people who pay them union dues every month
01:01:46.600
is there a plan moving forward from that or is that kind of we wait and see
01:01:50.600
so we're going to file a complaint with the regulatory board that looks over the unions for federal unions
01:01:57.600
so we're going to it's a regulatory complaint procedure
01:02:05.600
and hopefully the board will direct the union to take action here
01:02:09.600
well thanks again for the update and we'll continue to follow the story as it unfolds
01:02:13.600
as always I'd like to thank Sarah Miller for providing us with that legal analysis on this
01:02:18.600
I also particularly want to thank this brave airline employee for coming forward with her story
01:02:25.600
for every story that we are able to tell there are thousands of people in the same circumstances
01:02:30.600
so it's important people out there need to know that they're not alone
01:02:34.600
these particular stories though will become legal cases
01:02:37.600
cases where we are going to bat and hopefully setting precedent for others who are in the same situation
01:02:45.600
I want to encourage all of you to go to fightvaccinepassports.com right away
01:02:51.600
check out the stories and check out the fights that we are fighting on the behalf of Canadians across this country
01:03:01.600
there's also an opportunity there for you to sign our petition
01:03:04.600
as well as to contribute to our legal battles in defense of fundamentally Canadian values
01:03:12.600
as always I want to thank you all for tuning in
01:03:17.600
the airline industry has been the center of a great deal of negative attention since the onset of COVID-19
01:03:27.600
with flight cancellations and no refunds being given to mass layoffs
01:03:34.600
and that negativity seems to be continuing moving forward with vaccine passports
01:03:40.600
it is not only clients and customers who will be excluded from air travel
01:03:45.600
but now the employees of the airlines themselves facing potential termination based on their vaccination status
