In this episode, the Best of the Rebel team shares their favourite moments of the past year, including one of our favourite moments where we got to ask Prime Minister Justin Trudeau some tough questions about affordable housing and he didn t have an answer.
00:10:28.440Mr. Trudeau, I have shared my perspective on your organization yesterday. I have nothing to say.
00:10:35.620Mr. Trudeau, it asks who you are. Thank you.
00:10:37.900The next year will be the provincial election and we will have to double our strategy to make sure we are there.
00:10:47.660The other side of the story needs to be brought to light and that's what we are doing for you.
00:10:58.440I wish you a happy holiday and don't let anyone stop you from experiencing the magic of Christmas.
00:11:07.920Hey, what's Alex off for Rebellion News?
00:11:12.760Now, I don't need to tell you that it's been a crazy past two years, but over the last year, some crazy stuff has happened in and of itself.
00:11:19.120One of the major points, one of the highlights for me was when we went to the leaders debates and we had all of our journalists phoning in, asking questions.
00:11:27.920And we actually had some people in attendance, Alexa being one of them.
00:11:32.440And I think that was probably the biggest moment for me because it really showed that Rebell News is stepping it up.
00:11:38.000And whether you want to believe it or not, we're there to cover the questions that people don't want to ask.
00:11:42.280We're there to show you the other side of the story and always to bring you real news.
00:11:45.840I couldn't hear all of the questions, but we've been very clear on our approach on vaccines.
00:12:24.780We must inform and encourage and respect people as we use all tools to fight COVID-19, everything from masks to rapid testing, in addition to getting vaccine levels up as high as possible.
00:12:39.660I've talked to you and to several of your candidates this election.
00:12:43.680I've asked you some questions and you've answered me.
00:12:47.140But when your personnel discovered that I was with Rebell News and they've allowed me to enter,
00:12:52.280and also some of your candidates are hiding from me, such as Gerard Deltel.
00:12:56.620Do you not think that it's your work to talk to all Canadians, and not only to those who are in agreement with you and the people you love?
00:13:06.000We have a plan to have a positive campaign.
00:13:11.860I expect that approach across the country.
00:13:15.420And that's why every day that I have a press conference after my announcement, that's why at the beginning of the campaign, we launched our platform.
00:13:25.140And we've just received the report from the Parliamentary Budget Officer.
00:13:30.240We have a transparent approach when it comes to our plan.
00:13:35.960And that's important for me as a leader.
00:13:37.980And it's important for me to answer questions like I'm doing tonight.
00:13:41.020I have a question from Tamara Ugolini from Rebel News.
00:13:43.680Mr. Trudeau, the only reason that I'm allowed to ask you this question is because today the federal court ruled that the government doesn't have the right to determine who is or is not a journalist.
00:13:58.760This is the second election in a row that the court had to overturn your government.
00:14:03.840Do you still insist on being able to make that decision and why?
00:14:07.520First of all, questions around accreditation were handled by the Press Gallery and the Consortium of Networks who have strong perspectives on quality journalism and the important information that is shared with Canadians.
00:14:24.740The reality is organizations like yours that continue to spread misinformation and disinformation on the science around vaccines, around how we're going to actually get through this pandemic and be there for each other and keep our kids safe,
00:14:47.340is part of why we're seeing such unfortunate anger and lack of understanding of basic science.
00:14:57.560And quite frankly, your, I won't call it a media organization, your group of individuals need to take accountability for some of the polarization that we're seeing in this country.
00:15:12.200And I think Canadians are cluing into the fact that there is a really important decision we take about the kind of country we want to see.
00:15:21.640And I salute all extraordinary, hardworking journalists that put science and facts at the heart of what they do and ask me tough questions every day.
00:15:32.340But make sure that they are educating and informing Canadians from a broad range of perspectives, which is the last thing that you guys do.
00:15:42.200The question is from Evan Seuss, Rebel News.
00:16:15.260I believe you asked if voices should be heard.
00:16:18.320I certainly believe that there is space and should be space for differences of opinion.
00:16:23.900I believe that our democracy is healthier when we have a diversity of opinions.
00:16:28.720I think that actually what has gone on within my party has demonstrated that there are many healthy debates going on within politics, some of them difficult.
00:16:37.320So if that was your question, then certainly.
00:16:39.860I certainly am not looking for people just to agree with everything that I have to say.
00:16:44.420I think that Parliament is a place where we should be able to have robust exchanges, but still find the common ground.
00:16:52.160And there is a difference between having legitimate differences on policy and hyper-partisanship.
00:16:57.920We need to change the culture of politics.
00:17:02.740Historically, the NPD has been opposed to the large pharmaceutical companies and the billionaires who have been enriched thanks to the blockages like Amazon and Walmart.
00:17:12.820And the NPD has been very attentive to civil liberties, including being pro-choice in its own case.
00:17:19.480Why have you embraced the billionaires of Big Pharma and abandoned your pro-choice philosophy?
00:17:27.620Thank you, but I don't answer the questions of Rebel News.
00:18:45.180When I left school, I did retail for 10 years, and in my previous job, I met Kip, who was into film and photography.
00:18:54.480So we ended up starting a film business together.
00:18:56.740And with everything going on in the world, we thought filming the rallies would be so, to this moment, in inspiring people and giving them hope.
00:19:07.300And that's how we managed to get in touch with Rebel News.
00:19:10.460And this is why I'm reporting for the people in Brisbane now.
00:19:13.920And it's so inspiring to see, within six months of doing this, how much the numbers have grown and how much it's changed.
00:19:21.540So I can't wait to keep filming and meeting you guys next year.
00:19:25.800So bring on 2022, a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year.
00:29:37.200And frankly, I've given it some thought.
00:29:39.880And my favourite moment of the year comes after the very worst moment of the year.
00:29:43.800My favourite moment was your reaction, all of you at home, to the assault on my friend and colleague David Menzies by Justin Trudeau's RCMP henchman outside of a Liberal Party fundraising event at the beginning of December in Toronto.
00:29:59.140He was going to do a small rant and maybe try to shout a question at the Prime Minister as he walked in.
00:30:05.260All of this was happening while Justin Trudeau's ministers were encouraging lockdowns for normal Canadians.
00:30:11.420Yet Trudeau was attending a Christmas party to enrich the Liberal Party of Canada because apparently get-togethers, according to Justin Trudeau's behaviour, were not viral vectors as long as they made a few fundraising bucks for his party.
00:30:29.100It was the worst thing I may have ever seen at this company, but definitely the worst thing I saw this year on the job.
00:30:36.920I still have a tough time watching the video and I've watched it dozens of times, unfortunately.
00:30:41.340And then David's peers in the media, his peers in the bought and paid for mainstream media, treated him like he was asking for it, that he had it coming, even though the video of the altercation showed absolutely no such thing.
00:30:52.160It was insult to injury, but it was completely expected that they would protect the politician when he acted like an authoritarian dictator, as long as the politician's politics were right, because David's politics were wrong.
00:31:04.960But my favourite moment was you at home and your reaction to how David was treated.
00:31:10.020When we asked you to stand with David Menzies, boy, did you ever.
00:31:13.500And my email was and still is inundated with people concerned for David's welfare and sharing their best, funniest moments that they have had with David Menzies.
00:31:29.540Normal people knew what was right and what was wrong.
00:31:32.120And when the moral and intellectual superiors, at least the self-appointed ones in the mainstream media, well, their moral compass, it was broken.
00:31:41.480The normal people saw what was right in front of them and the mainstream media covered their eyes.
00:31:48.300That's why I will always advocate for normal people.
00:31:51.320That's why every day I talk about issues that matter to normal people.
00:31:55.340And that's why I won't let normal people be marginalized by politicians and the mainstream media, because normal people have a moral compass and our mainstream media and our politicians do not.
00:32:08.660So from my family to yours, thank you for always being normal.
00:32:55.640I often recruit these folks, and I do my best to help them be them, be free to speak plainly, to travel the country, sometimes even the world.
00:33:05.680And we back them up if they get in trouble.
00:33:07.700And boy, do they show in return their love for freedom and for this country.
00:33:14.240And of course, we have rebels around the world, too.
00:33:16.600In the United Kingdom, in Australia in particular.
00:33:26.220I think we have 17 journalists who appear on camera from time to time in Canada alone, not even counting our Australia team or our UK team.
