As the year comes to a close, we take the opportunity to reflect back on what we ve done this year, on the incredible stories that we ve told. It has been a privilege to be out there telling the other side of the story when other media outlets simply ignore them. When asked to pick my favourite story of the year, I found it a near impossible task.
00:00:00.300Hello, my Rebels. Tonight is part two of the best of the Rebels in 2021, where our journalists tell you what they think the best part of the last year was.
00:00:09.660Of course, visually is how we tell our stories through the video medium.
00:00:14.600So let me invite you to go to rebelnewsplus.com and become a subscriber.
00:00:19.020It's eight bucks a month. You get the video form of these podcasts.
00:00:22.440In addition to my nightly show, you get weekly shows by David Menzies, Sheila Gunn-Reed, and Andrew Chapados.
00:00:28.360Eight bucks a month. That's half the price of Netflix, and it helps us stay independent.
00:00:32.240So please consider helping out. All right, here's today's podcast.
00:00:49.420Tonight, part two of the best of the Rebels from 2021.
00:00:54.440It's New Year's Eve. This is The Ezra LeVant Show.
00:00:58.360Why should others go to jail when you're a biggest carbon consumer I know?
00:01:03.480There's 8,500 customers here, and you won't give them an answer.
00:01:07.540The only thing I have to say to the government about why I'm publishing it is because it's my bloody right to do so.
00:05:21.100It made my day and I think it shows that the rebels here at Rebel Media are just regular people who pull our pants on one leg at a time like anyone else.
00:05:30.600And if you're David Menzies, you just happen to be a little funnier than most people as well.
00:05:35.380While there is much to complain about when it comes to this tyrant, the black leather trench coat ban really struck a nerve with me, folks.
00:05:44.520Just think of the tagline from Jaws 4.
00:05:50.420You see, my beloved black leather trench coat dates back to the 90s, and I've been wearing it for a whole lot longer than Kim Jong-un has been wearing his trench coat.
00:06:02.380Bottom line, I've never set foot on North Korean soil, but I did get as far as the demilitarized zone some 10 years ago.
00:06:11.940And if I ever go back, I will yell across the no man's land that is the DMZ, paraphrasing the classic Charlton Heston line regarding gun control.
00:06:23.860I'll give you my black leather trench coat when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.
00:06:31.980And yeah, folks, like I said, I'll make this proclamation from the south side of the Korean border because we all know what happens to those making impolite statements on the north side.
00:06:44.6802021 has been quite the year in many aspects with so many different stories, so many interesting stories.
00:06:49.840It's hard to pick just one that stands out from the rest.
00:06:52.360From covering the migrant crisis in the UK, the absolute overreach of the Montreal police resulting in my colleagues and I being detained,
00:06:59.580and the countless stories of individuals who have been on the receiving end of these unjust measures we have been seeing over the past year.
00:07:05.680But for my number one moment of 2021, I'm going to have to give it to Monstrosity Burger.
00:07:10.860Now, Monstrosity Burger is a restaurant in Winnipeg that refused to check people's vaccination status.
00:07:16.320They refused to implement mandatory mask wearing.
00:07:18.980So law enforcement in Winnipeg gave them over $60,000 worth of fines.
00:07:25.560They removed their liquor license and they closed their restaurant for indoor dining.
00:07:30.580So the community in Winnipeg gathered outside of Monstrosity Burger and basically had a picnic protest where they were still allowed to give takeout.
00:07:39.800So everyone ordered takeout and they just simply showed support for the restaurant.
00:07:44.460Check it out, guys, and see why this is my number one moment of 2021.
00:07:47.520We love Monstrosity Burger and we love what they stand for.
00:07:52.740My heart just is, I don't even know what to say. It's just crazy. Yeah, it just feels really good.
00:08:01.760We're not tolerating this. Like, we're drawing a line in the sand. This can't go on.
00:08:06.100So it's really, really important for us to get out and support these guys.
00:08:09.780I understand since the last time we spoke, there's been a bit of an update. They pulled your liquor license, correct?
00:08:15.580Yep. The following day, after we were served to close our indoor dining, they came and pulled our liquor license.
00:15:39.280Whether you're getting married during a pandemic, you're starting a business or you're trying to, you know, be successful or whatever it is.
00:15:45.420Like, it's like, there's always going to be people that are going to like you and people that aren't going to like you.
00:15:48.840And I'm just standing in the truth that the people who are connected to this, wake up.
00:16:12.840But this young couple, as a sign, wanting to get right with God, being saved last week, we needed to celebrate this moment with you all and with the internet and even with the Rebel News.
00:18:10.780Because they are PR agents, public relations agents.
00:18:14.520They don't want to damage the narrative, the model that they constructed for Justin Trudeau as a caring liberal who cares about indigenous people and indigenous issues.
00:18:31.520Well, look at what this indigenous lady had to say about it.
00:18:35.760Yeah, they wouldn't want to record that part because it certainly goes against the narrative.
00:18:43.940But after all, Justin Trudeau is the guy who goes on surfing on the first day of Truth and Reconciliation Day.
