00:02:13.020 There were some counter-protesters that said their message was to show that they had the numbers that opposed these pro-freedom protesters' message.
00:02:21.960 But you know what? It's like my colleague Matt Brevner's hit song says, there's way more of us than them when it comes to the freedom protesters.

00:02:39.680 And in Canada these days, Justin Trudeau really, really needs one.

00:04:36.900 This is dash cam footage from a trucker protest in Winnipeg.

00:04:41.720 But then someone looking for violence against the truckers drove into them.

00:04:50.440 He tried to flee at high speed.

00:04:54.520 I'm Constable Rob Carver, public information officer with the Winnipeg Police Service.
00:04:59.660 Just one matter to talk about.
00:05:02.500 Yesterday evening at about 9, 10 p.m., Winnipeg police were advised of a motor vehicle collision near Broadway and Memorial Boulevard.
00:05:09.980 The initial information was that a westbound jeep patriot had driven through a group of protesters that were part of the freedom convoy at the legislative grounds.
00:05:19.700 The jeep then fled west, ultimately going down Portage Avenue, where numerous witnesses reported it traveling at high rates of speed and passing through red lights.
00:05:28.520 With the assistance of the RCMP, Winnipeg Police Service officers were able to stop the vehicle in the 4800 block of Portage Avenue at approximately 1030.
00:05:40.300 The lone male driver was arrested after a brief struggle.
00:05:44.240 The jeep struck four adult males in total.
00:05:46.520 Three sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention, and that's actually not quite accurate.
00:05:51.460 They were treated at the scene by Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, and the fourth was treated in hospital and released.
00:05:58.580 As a result, a male from Headingley, Manitoba, faces charges of assault with a weapon times four,
00:06:04.640 dangerous operation of a conveyance caused bodily harm times two,
00:06:08.260 dangerous operation of a conveyance,
00:06:10.580 failed to stop after accident knowing that reckless, knowing that the driving was reckless times two,
00:06:16.140 and failed to stop at the scene of an accident times two.
00:06:18.640 He is currently in custody.
00:06:21.600 We haven't named the individual yet because charges haven't been formally sworn to,
00:06:25.800 and we are obligated to not release a name until that process is complete.

00:07:09.600 Say, if it were a trucker plowing into someone else, if the shoe was on the other foot,

00:08:42.720 Okay, the convoys leaders are a Métis woman and a Jewish guy,
00:08:45.840 so it's obviously not condoned.
00:08:47.920 It's not an official document.
00:08:49.140 Now, I was there for a few days, and our people have been there for more than a week.
00:08:53.660 I don't think any of us have ever seen him.
00:08:56.080 Even if it were true that it was there, it doesn't condemn 100,000 people,
00:08:59.660 because you found some leaflet.

00:09:02.340 And Bernie Farber said his friend took the photo at the convoy.

00:09:18.320 Breaking the Miami Beach Police Department says anti-Semitic COVID conspiracy flyers were distributed overnight.

00:09:28.140 Bernie Farber didn't innocently copy this from the internet.
00:09:31.520 He personally testified that his friend got it from the trucker rally.

00:09:37.860 He vouched for it.
00:09:39.960 But it was a wicked lie.
00:09:41.100 A defamatory smear by a professional smearer.
00:09:44.260 But boy, did a lot of people repeat that lie.
00:09:48.120 At least, at last, they had proof that these truckers were racist, terrorists, sexists.

00:09:58.320 This series of tweets suggests that some trucker was mad about people who were upset with the honking or something.
00:10:07.280 So he came into a building and tried to set it on fire.

00:10:15.460 And of course, they know who he is because the trucker chatted with them mid-arson identifying himself.
00:10:21.400 And sure, they didn't call police or anything.
00:10:24.460 They reported it to Twitter a day later, which is what you do.
00:10:31.040 If an arsonist bursts into your apartment, you wait a day and then you tweet about it.
00:10:36.960 And you know he's a trucker because at least in one of the pictures, it looks like they have pink hair.

00:10:45.960 It's really a Jussie Smollett-level hoax.
00:10:48.920 So many, so many people, literally the entire Ottawa establishment, immediately accepted this obvious hoax and magnified it.

00:13:56.860 And of course, yesterday, the mayor of Ottawa declared an emergency, which is funny because
00:14:01.300 hours earlier, he said it was just a festival with bouncy castles.
00:14:05.200 There's so much politics going on and so much politics pretending to be policing.
00:14:09.900 Well, police took their political orders literally and started making arrests in the city, but
00:14:16.100 more bizarrely, started seizing jerry cans of gasoline or diesel fuel.
00:14:21.820 The reason that's important is so many of the truckers are actually living in their cabs
00:14:25.580 or their trucks.
00:14:26.220 So they need to run their engines for electricity and to stay warm in the cold Ottawa winter.
00:14:32.380 Those diesel jerry cans are not illegal.
00:14:35.200 They're not prohibited in any way.
00:14:37.080 Transporting them safely is an offense neither under the criminal court nor under any bylaw.
00:14:43.460 Plainly going up to people with an armed officer and demanding they hand over their diesel is bizarre and strikes me
00:14:51.700 that if it's not accompanied by a search warrant, maybe an act of theft in itself.

00:15:14.620 We've been getting a lot of calls since the mayor declared the state of emergency
00:15:18.820 and the police have been moving in.
00:15:21.320 We've been hearing a lot of stories of arrests.
00:15:23.920 I've been getting some calls from people in custody.
00:15:25.980 I've also been getting calls from a lot of concerned citizens who are just shocked, frankly,
00:15:31.800 as to the police nature of our city and our society and how it appears to be going.
00:15:38.980 I think to address your comments, Ezra, about the jerry cans,
00:15:44.620 I think the most common thing we keep hearing over and over again is this arrest for either aiding and abetting
00:15:50.820 or attempting to aid and abet the commission of mischief under the Criminal Code of Canada.
00:15:55.980 So that appears to be the hook that they're using to go through with these arrests and these seizures.
00:16:04.380 And maybe you talk a little bit more about why I think that might be problematic.

00:16:09.440 Well, I mean, it's such a stretch.
00:16:12.900 I'm guessing the police say, well, just do it.
00:16:16.180 And by the time we're brought before a judge, the damage will be done.

00:16:20.580 I think a lot of this is just to try and scare them away.

00:16:30.540 I'm going to call it stolen, frankly, because I don't think they have the color of right to take it.

00:16:37.320 and they weren't just released right away with a ticket or a summons.

00:16:43.360 Tell me about who's in custody and what they're in custody for.
00:16:47.740 Well, I've received some calls, Ezra, from the police, people in custody,
00:16:52.500 advised people in custody regarding, again, the arrest for aiding and abetting the commission of mischief.

00:17:03.640 I've not been able to reconnect with anybody who I spoke to yesterday.
00:17:07.200 I did connect today, though, with someone in my office who was arrested.
00:17:12.720 I didn't speak to him yesterday, but he was arrested.

00:17:17.640 And after spending a couple hours in police custody, the police released him with no charges
00:17:24.440 and just a exhortation to stay away from the downtown core without any any lawful basis to require him to do that.
00:17:33.520 And there's no actual enforcement mechanism for that.
00:17:37.860 Just say this actually be a good boy is what they told him after depriving him of his liberty for several hours
00:17:43.720 and having him have to go across town to get his car out of impound.
00:17:48.900 Huh. So, I mean, I understand it if charges are laid.

00:17:55.260 But for the police simply to scoop a guy off the street, hold them and then and then give him a direction
00:18:01.340 on where he can or can't engage in a peaceful protest, that is a very troubling thing.

00:18:09.200 On the one hand, police have been abusive over the last two years in general.
00:18:12.680 But I think that they have been pressed to the limit.
00:18:14.900 The police chief in Ottawa was outrageous with his press conference the other day, deeming this protest unlawful.

00:18:23.620 Threatening a bizarre enforcement.

00:18:29.120 Saying he's working with national spy agencies to collect private data on every one of the peaceful protests.

00:18:38.380 I think that the Ottawa Police Service has allowed itself to become a political enforcement arm of Justin Trudeau and the regime.
00:18:47.080 I'm deeply concerned about it.
00:18:48.640 And what you've just described, someone being pulled off the street, thrown in jail for hours and then released with no charges.
00:18:56.000 I'm sorry, but that's what happens in Caracas, Venezuela or Havana, Cuba or Tehran.

00:19:10.180 I think that if there were charges laid, there would be a number of areas of those charges which would be difficult for the Crown to prove.

00:19:20.120 There would be constitutional issues not only with the enforcement, but with any suggestion that the criminal code would trump the charter rights that are in play.
00:19:32.120 I will say this, though, it's been a lot quieter today.

00:19:46.600 And I think that although I think protesters and I support everyone's right to protest and to do so noisily, I think that the hook the police were using to be able to lay these or at least do these arrests for mischief was the extremely loud noise which has been going on for some time.
00:20:05.900 So I think that it's to some extent a strategically good thing that the noise has calmed down, at least temporarily for now, because I think it deprives the police for being able to claim that a mischief is ongoing as they're hearing it.
00:20:20.640 I think I'm not saying that it would survive in court, but I'm saying that police might have been acting on the basis that members of our citizens of the city of Ottawa were were not able to enjoy their property with the loud noise.
00:20:34.680 That noise gone, I think so goes any realistic basis to have laid these arrests.
00:20:40.720 So I think strategically, that's a good thing.
00:20:42.680 And I've not been hearing of there being as many arrests today.

00:34:24.560 Well, I think what's going to happen is there won't be a shortage of more fuel coming in if they need it.

00:34:38.660 But at some point in time, they're going to have to find some alternative fuel sources and bring them in.
