While the world tries to lower gasoline prices, Justin Trudeau wants to increase them. He says so, and he says so because, well, it s cheaper than everyone else s gas. But the truth is, he s been rich for a long time, thanks to his grandfather. And it s not because he s rich because of his love of fossil fuels. It s because of where they come from.
00:05:50.520But you really can't count on him for anything when the going gets tough, can you?
00:05:54.460As Ukraine learned when Trudeau amended his own sanctions rules to exempt Russian oil and gas pipeline turbines being fixed by a company in Montreal.
00:06:05.080So Trudeau hates oil and gas, but not really Russian oil and gas, and not the oil and gas that he himself uses.
00:07:56.480They are environmental activists, just like the CBC is.
00:07:58.980But at least they're honest enough to report in literally dozens of stories that China is building more coal-fired power plants, both for China itself and around the world, than every other country combined.
00:08:14.040But sure, you tackle those Canadian cars.
00:12:34.640Right across the country in Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, climate action incentive payments have landed in people's bank accounts.
00:12:43.500It's part of our commitment to make sure that even as we step on to fight climate change, we're supporting families.
00:12:48.640Indeed, 8 out of 10 families will be better off with the climate action incentive than the carbon price costs them in a given year.
00:12:57.020That's part of how we're moving forward to support people.
00:13:00.580Here in Ontario, I was just speaking with the Mattin family who got a check for $372.50.
00:13:07.700That's going to make a real difference as prices go up.
00:13:11.360But as we continue to be there for people as we're fighting against climate change.
00:13:15.440And remember, in rural and small communities, there's a 10% top up on that.
00:13:20.380We're going to continue to be there for people as we build a better future and protect our planet.
00:15:03.460Yeah, we hear him claim that families are going to be better off.
00:15:06.700But the parliamentary budget officer shows that the Trudeau government is using magic math.
00:15:12.440That's because the carbon tax will cost the average household anywhere from about $300 all the way up to $670 this year, even with the rebates.
00:15:22.900So we just heard Trudeau talking about that Ontario household.
00:15:27.360Well, that average household in Ontario, the carbon tax is going to cost them $360 this year, even with the rebates.
00:15:35.260And Ezra, the parliamentary budget officer, that's the government's owned independent watchdog.
00:15:41.180You know, the idea that you take money, you pay it to the government, they take the money, they pay it back to you.
00:15:48.060The idea that that happens without any friction or overhead in itself is a bit of a laugh.
00:15:54.840I mean, if you start out with $100 and you gave it to the government and they gave it back, I don't know how much was taken by the government in handling.
00:16:02.080And, you know, all these very important people getting paid along the way.
00:16:06.160Look, the math is bizarre to begin with, but he's got mixed messages because he always says when he defends the carbon tax, it's to punish bad choices.
00:18:48.780Oh, just take public transit, which is not available to most Canadians, first of all, because, I mean, it's there in some big cities, but not in rural parts.
00:20:04.660Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, India, cutting gas taxes.
00:20:08.860Alberta, Newfoundland, and Labrador, Ontario, cutting gas taxes.
00:20:13.100Florida, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, all announcing gas tax relief.
00:20:17.340So you have these other countries who are doing the right thing, cutting taxes,
00:20:21.440all while Ottawa continues to stick us with higher tax bills.
00:20:24.840Wow, that's a great list of jurisdictions.
00:20:26.800I knew about some of those, but not all of them.
00:20:30.300You know, traditionally, European countries have high gas prices because they have a lot of taxes.
00:20:36.320Also, most of them have to import gas from gasoline or oil from outside their own borders.
00:20:43.320But most European countries are smaller, by the way, than Canada, the second largest country in the world.
00:20:50.120But so I think historically people could say, well, look, European gasoline prices are higher.
00:20:55.460But our chief competitor is the United States.
00:20:58.300And I know gas prices are high there, too.
00:21:00.300But they're not as high as they are up here.
00:21:02.540And they don't have the same carbon taxes they have up here.
00:21:05.060And as you pointed out, some states are reducing their gas taxes.
00:21:07.860I'm worried that both Canada and the United States are doing poorly because of inflation and high prices.
00:21:13.900But as Trudeau really tries to make Canada, you know, use that world economic form phrase, build back better, by which he means, you know, an environmentalist agenda.
00:21:25.480When we know that the U.S., Joe Biden has failed, he couldn't get his own party on side.
00:21:31.100So I'm worried you're going to see a divergence, Franco.
00:21:33.600I'm worried that things are going to get worse faster in Canada and they're not going to get as bad in America.
00:21:40.900And you're going to see the difference.
00:21:42.140And let's say, you know, Norway or Holland has high gas prices.
00:21:50.920But if the United States of America becomes more and more advantageous to do business than Canada, I'm worried you're going to see what you saw before, which is companies moving out for lower energy prices.
00:22:03.920I'm worried that it's one thing to talk about for like far away places with high gas prices.
00:22:09.360But if we start to pull away from our American competitors, I think that's that's going to really accelerate the recession up here.
00:22:16.460I don't know. Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but I'm worried about it, Franco.
00:22:40.720Trudeau wants to keep raising his carbon tax to nearly 40 cents per liter of gas.
00:22:46.180And Ezra, we started our conversation talking about the PBO's numbers that show that this year the carbon tax will cost the average household hundreds of dollars more than the rebates.
00:22:56.380Well, if you look from now through to 2030, well, the average household will end up paying anywhere from about $6,400 all the way to $13,000 more in carbon taxes than what they get back in rebates.
00:23:12.120So this big tax bill is only getting worse under the Trudeau government's cranking up of its carbon tax.
00:23:18.320Well, Franco, this is dark news, but we have to hear it.
00:23:22.960And boy, you've got your finger on the pulse of all these jurisdictions.
00:23:26.600The whole world is rebelling against high gas prices.
00:23:31.580Europe, it's the high gas prices and high oil prices and natural gas.
00:23:36.440That's a form of hostage taking by Russia, which is using that as an economic weapon.
00:23:41.860The crazy thing is our own prime minister is using it as a weapon against us himself domestically.
00:23:46.660I don't know. We'll continue to follow the story.
00:23:49.040I think it's going to get worse, and I hope you guys keep up the fight.
00:23:51.920You guys are one of the only independent critics out there because the Canadian Taxpayers Federation does not take money from the government.
00:23:59.540So you're free to criticize them, and you're one of the few good guys left.
00:26:41.020Alexa, one of our fantastic reporters out of Quebec, is currently doing a story to find out what the public thought about eating insects in place of the consumption of meat and other animal byproducts.
00:26:50.580This is being promoted, of course, very heavily by organizations like the World Economic Forum and a few of our elite politicians that see themselves as above the rest of us.
00:26:59.180Alexa does a fantastic job detailing the World Economic Forum's plans when it comes to our diet in the near future.
00:27:04.940Now, I encourage you to check out Alexa's report and go to exposethereset.com to find out more.
00:27:09.920For the meantime, we spoke to some of these individuals here at the Stampede, the world's largest outdoor event.
00:27:14.680We've got ourselves some cricket hot dogs as well as some worm hot dogs.
00:27:18.580Let's hear what these Calgary Stampede goers had to say about changing their diet from meat to insects.
00:27:23.920Actually, I'm a vegetarian, so I would, you know, not try that.
