00:01:14.280 Welcome to Rebel Roundup, ladies and gentlemen, and the rest of you,
00:01:33.060 in which we look back at some of the very best commentaries of the week by your favorite Rebels.
00:01:38.160 I'm your host, David Menzies.
00:01:39.860 Well, three of our videographers went to Montreal last weekend,
00:01:44.940 and the Montreal police promptly roughed them up, vandalized their equipment,
00:01:50.940 ticketed them, and arrested them.
00:01:53.220 And what was their heinous crime, you ask?
00:01:56.540 Well, apparently, practicing journalism is now illegal in La Belle-Provence.
00:02:03.280 Mocha Bezergin joins me to dish out all the egregious details.
00:02:08.800 And just call it the pre-Easter miracle.
00:02:12.180 Pastor James Coates was finally released from a maximum security prison
00:02:16.500 and made his triumphant return to Grace Life Church,
00:02:20.360 much to the delight of more than 600 parishioners.
00:02:24.540 But not everybody was happy.
00:02:26.640 Sheila Gunn-Reed has all the nitty-gritty details.
00:02:29.280 And letters, we get your letters, we get them every minute of every day.
00:02:33.400 And you had plenty to say about the March 20th Freedom Rally
00:02:38.080 staged at Toronto's Queen's Park by the rank-and-file membership of Yahoo Nation.
00:02:43.880 You know, the people who once upon a time identified as members of Ford Nation
00:02:49.560 until Premier Ford actually threw his own base under the bus.
00:02:54.800 Amazing.
00:02:56.020 Those are your Rebels now.
00:02:57.240 Let's round them up.
00:02:59.280 Thank you.
00:03:07.140 Thank you.
00:03:10.560 Salut, prof. Tomas.
00:03:12.020 Okay, can you?
00:03:12.480 Yeah, you're not...
00:03:13.400 Don't have your mind.
00:03:14.420 Hey, hey, hey, hey.
00:03:15.320 It's okay.
00:03:16.080 I'm media.
00:03:16.900 Don't put your head here.
00:03:18.080 Why...
00:03:18.440 Sir?
00:03:18.980 Why are you...
00:03:19.460 Why are you...
00:03:20.080 Why are you...
00:03:21.460 I'm sorry, you're not allowed to manhandle somebody.
00:03:24.020 It's okay.
00:03:24.300 You're not allowed to manhandle...
00:03:25.060 Why are you putting your hands on me?
00:03:26.620 He doesn't have to go anywhere with you.
00:03:27.660 Don't name my badge number now.
00:03:28.880 You are targeting me because I'm recording, right?
00:03:34.800 No, you're not recording.
00:03:35.400 I just came here.
00:03:36.520 Hey.
00:03:36.740 You're allowed to record, sorry.
00:03:38.260 Yeah, I am recording.
00:03:39.140 I'm detained.
00:03:39.860 Okay, what are you doing?
00:03:40.980 I'm going to give you a ticket.
00:03:42.260 Yeah, let's go.
00:03:42.940 Are you taking me right now?
00:03:44.060 Yeah, let's go.
00:03:44.460 You can hear it.
00:03:45.420 You have to follow me now.
00:03:46.380 I just arrived here right now.
00:03:48.300 And you're grabbing me.
00:03:49.660 Yes, I'm grabbing you because you have to grab me.
00:03:51.460 Yeah, I acknowledge that.
00:03:52.160 Okay?
00:03:52.680 No, I don't have to.
00:03:53.780 Yes, you have to...
00:03:54.440 Give me...
00:03:54.780 Okay, okay.
00:03:55.520 Give me the ticket.
00:03:56.140 Stay cool.
00:03:56.820 Okay, I am calm.
00:03:57.540 I'm going to give you the ticket.
00:03:58.280 Okay?
00:03:58.860 You want my ID?
00:03:59.680 You want to record?
00:04:00.320 You can record.
00:04:00.980 There's no problem.
00:04:01.720 Yes, I need your ID.
00:04:02.880 Okay, I'll give you the ID.
00:04:03.880 Okay?
00:04:04.420 Give me your ID.
00:04:07.040 Okay, 7Aster.
00:04:07.920 What's your name and badge number?
00:04:09.140 Jean-Paul.
00:04:10.240 7-9-8-7.
00:04:12.340 What am I being detained for?
00:04:13.700 Because you're not wearing a mask.
00:04:15.180 For what?
00:04:15.580 I'm not part of the protest.
00:04:16.360 You heard about the protest.
00:04:17.820 No, no, wait, wait, wait, wait, listen, listen, I'm reporting, listen, I'm reporting,
00:04:21.060 I'm not part of the protest.
00:04:22.100 I'll ask you a piece of ID.
00:04:23.360 So it doesn't matter to you that I'm not, I'm just here to report.
00:04:25.560 I'll ask you a piece of ID.
00:04:27.980 So what will I do?
00:04:29.500 I'm going to make the tickets, you're going to have to sit in the car because I have to
00:04:32.240 verify your identity.
00:04:33.280 I'm here, I'm not going anywhere.
00:04:34.540 Yeah, you have to sit in my car.
00:04:35.860 I have never heard of that.
00:04:37.200 Why are you putting me...
00:04:37.840 Can I sit over here?
00:04:39.280 No, of course not.
00:04:40.060 You have to.
00:04:40.460 I have...
00:04:40.980 This is my fourth ticket and I've never...
00:04:43.120 Your fourth ticket?
00:04:43.400 Yeah, no one put me inside there.
00:04:45.100 I don't have to.
00:04:46.140 Well, it's for you.
00:04:46.740 No, I'm okay standing here.
00:04:48.500 Yes.
00:04:48.720 You're going to sit there?
00:04:49.560 No problem.
00:04:50.200 Okay, so I'm going to go to my car.
00:04:51.520 I'm going to register.
00:04:51.720 Okay, I'm waiting here.
00:04:52.780 I'm going to verify the information, okay?
00:04:54.320 Okay.
00:04:56.700 Okay, we've got 140 people.
00:04:58.200 You want to say what is happening?
00:04:58.820 Hello guys, I'm Mocha Bezergan with Rebel News.
00:05:01.260 We just arrived at the scene of the protest in Montreal and as soon as we arrived, this police officer
00:05:10.500 hold me from my arm, he pulled me over, she pulled me over here, she tried to put me in
00:05:16.520 this police vehicle.
00:05:17.700 Of course, I said, hey, I got two curfew tickets and one ticket for not wearing a mask outdoors
00:05:24.100 and this is also one of them and never police asked me to stay inside the car.
00:05:29.560 So, I didn't go inside the car.
00:05:31.480 The police in Montreal, they don't like being recorded.
00:05:33.720 They specifically target people who are recording, I think, because this is my fourth time and
00:05:39.340 they don't have body cams.
00:05:41.320 So, they don't have body cams.
00:05:44.780 They don't, it's not like Toronto.
00:05:48.780 In Toronto, you know, hey there.
00:05:50.820 Hey, hey.
00:05:51.660 You guys want to say hi.
00:05:52.560 Hi, folks.
00:05:53.540 Hi, guys.
00:05:54.540 Well, they are mounted.
00:05:56.460 So, as you guys just saw, this lady was just caution for not wearing a mask outside.
00:06:00.140 Really, you're going to touch those, you're going to touch that mask with naked hands and
00:06:06.880 give it to us?
00:06:07.440 Here you go, sir, okay?
00:06:08.480 I'm giving you the ticket.
00:06:09.620 Yeah, okay, thank you.
00:06:10.840 And this is your two pieces of ID and you have a mask because you have to wear a mask.
00:06:14.080 No, I don't have to.
00:06:14.780 If you don't, you'll have another one.
00:06:16.600 Okay, you can't give me hundreds of tickets.
00:06:19.160 That's okay.
00:06:19.620 I'm not going to wear a mask that you touch like that.
00:06:21.780 Here you go, sir.
00:06:22.300 No.
00:06:22.620 Would you like to take it for yourself?
00:06:24.040 No, I don't have to.
00:06:25.600 Yeah.
00:06:25.820 Okay, have a present.
00:06:26.620 Remember the good old days when cops issued parking tickets?
00:06:29.920 As opposed to issuing tickets for not wearing face masks?
00:06:34.620 Oh, and by the way, how is it that so many Montreal cops don't understand that filming
00:06:40.820 in a public place is perfectly legal?
00:06:44.560 We're talking Southern Quebec here, not North Korea.
00:06:48.240 And with more on the rough stuff Rebel reporters received at the hands of Montreal's finest is
00:06:55.280 none other than ace cameraman and film editor, Mocha Bezergan.
00:07:00.760 Mocha, welcome to Rebel Roundup for the first time ever.
00:07:03.500 You've been here for a while and you're doing absolute great work, as my colleague Sheila
00:07:07.100 Gunn-Reed likes to say when it comes to you and Efren and everybody else, we don't deserve
00:07:12.480 you.
00:07:12.760 You're so hardworking.
00:07:14.340 But I'll tell you this much.
00:07:15.820 You sure didn't deserve the reception that you received at the hands of the Montreal police.
00:07:22.900 How did everything go off the rails?
00:07:25.240 What was the crime you were committing?
00:07:27.280 Because as far as I'm concerned, you were merely practicing journalism.
00:07:30.900 Well, if we want to talk about what happened last weekend, because this is not the first
00:07:36.000 time I was grabbed and given a face, a ticket for not wearing a face covering.
00:07:41.880 Well, we were driving to the protest area and Lincoln dropped me and Efren off there so
00:07:48.720 that he could find parking.
00:07:50.320 And we just crossed the road.
00:07:52.000 We didn't even get inside to the protest area yet.
00:07:55.280 I mean, we weren't in the crowd.
00:07:56.880 And then we saw two police officers walking and Scott, you know, just, I think they were
00:08:03.960 just looking for someone to grab.
00:08:05.980 And then we were recording them.
00:08:08.420 So they noticed us.
00:08:09.980 They kind of hide it behind somewhere, as you can see in the footage.
00:08:13.860 And then I think they decided to, the female cop did this as, you know, as a gesture to,
00:08:20.340 I guess, to other officers.
00:08:21.660 And then she walked and then she turned towards me and then grabbed me by my arm, not asking
00:08:28.400 for ID, not telling me what crime I'm committing.
00:08:33.000 She was just like, sir, come here.
00:08:35.680 And then grabbing me by my arm.
00:08:37.360 Yeah.
00:08:37.860 And, but she extended some hospitality.
00:08:40.420 I think you were feeling a little cold.
00:08:41.940 So she offered you the warm comfort of sitting in the backseat of a police cruiser.
00:08:47.420 Well, I think she thought that I was, you know, just, you know, just a person who don't
00:08:52.940 know the law or don't know.
00:08:55.120 So she thought that if she were to say, oh, you have to sit inside the vehicle, I would
00:08:59.640 be like, oh, I have to.
00:09:01.160 Oh, OK, then I will.
00:09:02.840 But of course, I said, no, this is the fourth ticket I'm getting.
00:09:05.900 Nobody tried to put me inside of back of a police cruiser.
00:09:09.040 Yeah, and you're up to five tickets, I understand, curfew violations and mask violations.
00:09:15.900 What is this deal, Mocha, that in Quebec you're supposed to wear a mask while you're outdoors?
00:09:23.560 I don't understand because many people, I mean, I've been to Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver,
00:09:30.420 many places in the last couple of months.
00:09:33.120 And Montreal, compared to those places, is very lively.
00:09:38.220 People are out and about, they're drinking, they're many people not wearing masks, the
00:09:45.360 parks are filled with people.
00:09:47.220 So the police basically somehow has this right or authority to grab people by their arms if
00:09:57.060 they're not wearing a mask and then issue them tickets.
00:09:59.580 And not only do they have a ticket book, Mocha, but what I found perversely amusing is they
00:10:04.660 actually carry around boxes of these masks.
00:10:08.320 And I saw you and Efren being offered one.
00:10:11.220 First of all, the officer's hands are all over the mask.
00:10:14.620 Secondly, just a week ago, there was a cbc.ca story indicating that thousands and thousands
00:10:23.120 of masks, I can't remember the exact number, in Quebec, are contaminated.
00:10:27.800 They would cause more harm than good.
00:10:30.380 Surely they don't expect anyone with half a brain cell to put one of those masks on.
00:10:34.880 Yeah, and this happened twice.
00:10:37.000 This happened two weeks ago when the police grabbed me by the arm and then issued me a ticket.
00:10:41.340 And then he extended a mask to me with my ID and my ticket and told me to wear it.
00:10:50.360 If I won't wear it, I'll get another ticket.
00:10:52.280 And I said, no, I'm not going to wear something you touched with your bare hands.
00:10:55.300 And this happened last weekend again, once again, with naked hands.
00:11:00.080 Officer gives to another officer and that officer extends to me an Efren.
00:11:04.180 And I said, I'm not going to wear a mask that you touched with your bare hands.
00:11:09.360 And she said, OK, would you like to pick it with your own hand?
00:11:13.420 So I'm going to put my hand inside and then pick it, really?
00:11:16.780 So this tells me that this is not about safety.
00:11:20.680 It's crazy.
00:11:21.920 Like I said, these are potentially contaminated masks, even if they were wearing gloves.
00:11:27.060 So in addition to the contaminated mask, potentially, the officer is also getting his clammy hands
00:11:32.940 over.
00:11:33.200 I mean, you couldn't write this stuff.
00:11:34.660 Another incredible thing, it happened in a conversation with our friend Yankee,
00:11:38.820 based out of Montreal.
00:11:40.740 There was a female officer who, in French, so there's nothing lost in translation here.
00:11:47.180 You can't play that card.
00:11:48.920 She referred to us as being part of Jew media?
00:11:52.600 Well, that happened now.
00:11:54.560 That was the first time.
00:11:55.880 And then it happened the second time when the riot police grabbed Efren.
00:11:59.420 And then while we were trying to record, they told Lincoln to stay off the road or he would
00:12:07.880 get arrested for obstruction.
00:12:10.380 And then some officer said, oh, I know your friend Yankee.
00:12:14.380 I know Rebel News.
00:12:15.220 And then another officer turns like this and then says, oh, is he a Jew?
00:12:20.760 With that kind of tone of voice.
00:12:23.020 And I discovered a second angle of the shoot where it is evident that it's the police officer
00:12:28.940 who says that.
00:12:29.720 And that's going to be in our main video.
00:12:31.820 Yeah.
00:12:31.920 So, I don't know what goes internally within them about what they consider Rebel News is.
00:12:41.480 It is surreal.
00:12:42.800 When I saw that clip, I thought, is this Montreal in 2021 or Berlin in 1933?
00:12:50.120 It was just off the charts, inappropriate.
00:12:52.780 You know, Mocha, the audience might not know that you were born and partly raised in Turkey.
00:13:00.540 And, you know, what is your attitude there?
00:13:04.060 Because I see Turkey, especially in, you know, recent years as being ramping up more of a police
00:13:11.220 state.
00:13:11.880 Oh, yeah.
00:13:12.360 Did you ever expect to see kind of Turkish style policing come to Canada?
00:13:17.760 Well, yeah.
00:13:18.380 In Montreal, I felt very much like I was in Istanbul.
00:13:21.560 Wow.
00:13:22.020 Because in Istanbul, you're lucky if you don't get, ask your ID when you're going outside
00:13:29.280 from point A to point B.
00:13:30.940 There are so many police officers in many major intersections, subway stations, and they
00:13:37.740 would randomly stop people, ask for ID, and do a body search, a back search.
00:13:43.240 And it is becoming, it is very invasive.
00:13:46.920 And this is all being done under the, you know, it's for safety to prevent.
00:13:51.740 Safety.
00:13:52.320 Yeah, yeah.
00:13:52.680 Safety to prevent terrorist attacks, blah, blah, blah.
00:13:55.380 And you can't even be in a public place, in a public park, and record something, let's
00:14:03.120 say, with your video camera.
00:14:04.900 The security will come, the police will come, they will say, you need to get permission
00:14:08.240 from the, you know.
00:14:09.660 Same thing the Montreal police were saying to you, you can't record me.
00:14:12.220 So when we go to Nathan Phillips Square, for example, when the security comes up to us
00:14:16.560 and says, oh, you need a permit.
00:14:18.600 These are all the things that are reminding me of Istanbul, reminding me of Turkey.
00:14:22.840 How sad is that?
00:14:24.120 And I'm glad you mentioned Nathan Phillips Square, because if anyone knows our employer,
00:14:28.920 Ezra Levent, it's the fact that we don't bend the knee here.
00:14:33.660 He doesn't take guff from anyone.
00:14:36.340 So while the police in Montreal might think they've kicked us down the 401 to Toronto and
00:14:42.320 never to come back, as General MacArthur said, I shall return and we shall return, all
00:14:48.500 hands on deck to Montreal, we're going to, we did the same thing at Nathan Phillips Square.
00:14:53.240 We defied the security and the police.
00:14:55.840 We went down there, as I said, all hands on deck with a lawyer who knew the law.
00:14:59.880 And I think we're going to do that in Montreal, maybe in a week or so, because we, like I said,
00:15:07.140 we're not going to bend the knee.
00:15:08.600 We are still in a country that has a constitution and the Charter of Rights, and they are not
00:15:15.960 allowed to violate them in the guise of safety.
00:15:19.780 Well, we're going to see what's going to happen in the coming days.
00:15:22.600 It's going to be very interesting because I have the feeling that this is not going to
00:15:26.060 end well.
00:15:27.160 A hundred percent.
00:15:28.080 And I guess you're going to be excited for that.
00:15:30.520 I'm sure you can hardly wait.
00:15:32.580 Well, Mocha, thank you so much for joining me on Rebel Roundup.
00:15:36.520 And as far as I'm concerned, the Montreal police, next time you see our beloved Big
00:15:42.860 Turk, don't be a big jerk.
00:15:46.340 More of Rebel Roundup to come right after this.
00:15:53.560 Sheila Gunner-Reed for Rebel News here at Grace Life Church west of Edmonton, Alberta.
00:15:57.260 Now, this is the first Sunday since the pastor here, Pastor James Coates, was released from
00:16:01.040 provincial custody after spending 35 full days in a maximum security facility for violating
00:16:06.940 a public health order.
00:16:08.060 Now, Coates was first taken into custody February 16th for failing to comply with an undertaking
00:16:12.780 that would require him to limit his congregation to 15 percent of fire code capacity.
00:16:17.500 That order also would force the congregation to wear masks and require them to social distance.
00:16:23.540 Now, these measures are something that Coates and the congregation here say would violate
00:16:28.080 their ability to practice their faith in the way that they see fit.
00:16:31.820 Now, it's the beginning of Holy Week, the most important week of the Christian calendar.
00:16:37.980 The church here was at 619 people, which is 100 percent of fire code capacity, as it has
00:16:43.740 been pretty well consistently since Coates was first taken into custody.
00:16:48.040 Now, Coates was released when a deal was struck between Coates' lawyers from the Justice
00:16:52.500 Center for Constitutional Freedoms and the Crown that would see the public health charge
00:16:56.040 dropped, a second public health charge proceeding to trial in May, and the criminal charge of
00:17:02.440 failure to comply with that undertaking, now that's the one that landed Coates in jail in
00:17:05.860 the first place, resolved with just a $100 fine and one day served in jail, which Coates
00:17:10.960 had naturally already served.
00:17:12.920 He actually served 34 extra ones.
00:17:15.280 However, the justice who had to sign off on the deal, Justice Jeffrey B. Champion, increased
00:17:20.380 the financial penalty to $1,500 because apparently 35 days in jail that Pastor Coates had already
00:17:26.500 served, well, I guess that, according to the judge, was not a deterrent enough.
00:17:30.520 Now, today has been an exciting day.
00:17:32.180 The media presence was quite heavy, which is strange, given that media interest has waned
00:17:37.600 in the past few weeks.
00:17:38.560 But maybe the media knew something was going to happen today, and we'll get to that in a
00:17:43.460 second.
00:17:43.780 The mainstream media brought a total of six security guards with them, and they all stood,
00:17:49.500 as they normally do in the ditch, off of church property because, unlike me, they are not allowed
00:17:54.920 on.
00:17:55.700 Now, to be clear, this church has engaged in completely peaceful resistance to the public
00:18:00.580 health orders to the point where their pastor was in prison for weeks.
00:18:03.640 This congregation isn't violent.
00:18:05.380 It isn't a threat to anybody.
00:18:06.560 What we saw from the media was just public victimhood theater from a mainstream media that
00:18:13.280 seems almost purposeful in its misunderstanding of Christianity.
00:18:16.680 So there we have it.
00:18:17.740 This past Sunday, Pastor James Coates, a.k.a.
00:18:21.000 Alberta's public enemy number one, made a triumphant return to Grace Life Church after spending
00:18:27.280 more than a month in a maximum security facility in Edmonton.
00:18:31.780 His crime?
00:18:33.840 Preaching the gospel.
00:18:35.940 And with more on the ongoing saga, Pastor Coates is one of the few journalists allowed
00:18:40.780 to actually come onto the property of the Grace Life Church, none other than Sheila Gunn-Reed.
00:18:47.460 Welcome to Rebel Roundup, Sheila.
00:18:49.660 Hey, David.
00:18:50.260 Thanks for having me on the show.
00:18:51.740 It's not one of the few journalists.
00:18:54.340 I'm the only journalist.
00:18:55.440 The rest of them have to stand off site in the ditch and take, I mean, they, they're
00:19:03.100 outside, they're standing far away from each other, and they're all wearing masks.
00:19:09.380 And, you know, but, you know, that's the thing, Sheila, that's what I love to do, under
00:19:14.300 promise and over deliver.
00:19:15.660 So the fact that you were the only journalist there, that makes the call to action that much
00:19:20.200 greater.
00:19:20.440 But, Sheila, there is so much to discuss here, and we ended the clip with the mainstream media,
00:19:26.700 you know, that we were just talking about, hanging out near that ditch you spoke of,
00:19:31.220 given that they are indeed persona non grata.
00:19:34.300 But what was the deal with that huge security presence they brought along?
00:19:39.820 Who do they think attends Grace Life Church, the rank and file of Antifa?
00:19:44.180 Yeah, they brought along six security guards, and I'm, you know, some of them, and I'm not
00:19:52.380 trying to be rude here, but I don't know if some of those security guards could have chased
00:19:55.860 down too many people, but they made the media feel better about themselves.
00:20:00.900 But yeah, I mean, this is a church where they're so committed to peaceful resistance to a bad
00:20:08.760 law that their pastor turned himself in to provincial authorities.
00:20:14.600 He didn't go in the lam, he didn't resist arrest.
00:20:17.940 The only time this church has ever resisted anything is when they are, you know, stand firm
00:20:26.140 in not letting health inspectors in and the RCMP in to the church services to disrupt them.
00:20:32.720 And they keep the media off the property.
00:20:35.100 They don't even necessarily keep the police off the property.
00:20:38.480 They let the police, if they want, come and sit in the parking lot and count cars.
00:20:43.020 I mean, they're so committed to doing this peacefully.
00:20:47.840 The idea that these people needed security, I mean, it's, what it really is, is public theater,
00:20:55.420 right?
00:20:55.960 That they want every, they want everybody else who's driving by and taking pictures and the
00:21:00.060 media taking pictures of themselves to say, oh, look how dangerous it is, these Christians.
00:21:05.620 And look how brave we are reporting on these, this controversial cult if you cover the mainstream
00:21:12.920 media coverage of them.
00:21:14.680 Brave media members that need a half a dozen security officers for a bunch of church-going
00:21:20.560 Christians.
00:21:20.980 I guess at least we know in Alberta who is not in the media going to be dispatched to
00:21:26.840 any kind of war zone because they would likely wet their pants in that environment.
00:21:33.320 But Sheila, at the end of the day, the question, of course, is this.
00:21:36.640 You have a facility, a church, and you have a facility, a Walmart or a Costco, and you have
00:21:42.300 hundreds in each of these buildings, and the gospel of Costco and the gospel of Walmart is
00:21:50.980 okay, but it isn't okay to preach the gospel in an actual church.
00:21:56.220 How does Premier Kenney even justify this so-called logic?
00:22:02.320 Not only that, recently restrictions were eased on retail so that more people could be in the
00:22:09.960 stores based on the square footage and the fire code, but that wasn't the case for church
00:22:15.020 services, and it isn't the case for church services as we are in Holy Week.
00:22:20.180 So for me as a Catholic, I mean, there's things going on just about every single day that I
00:22:25.020 should be in attendance, but fire code restricts it to just 15% of capacity.
00:22:32.680 So, you know, we're not seeing any retail managers being stuffed in prison.
00:22:39.960 For going over the fire code.
00:22:42.060 And we know that happens all the time in retail.
00:22:46.060 But, oh, it's just an accident.
00:22:47.980 It's whatever.
00:22:49.220 But because this church said, we are going to defy this bad law, and we will face the
00:22:55.360 consequences that come with it.
00:22:57.380 Pastor Coates became a political prisoner.
00:22:59.620 That's really what he was.
00:23:00.620 In the entire Western world, one of the few political prisoners in a place that has a
00:23:06.520 motto that we are strong and free.
00:23:08.320 I mean, that's false advertising at this point.
00:23:11.020 It's unbelievable.
00:23:12.200 And Sheila, not only are executives of Walmart and Costco being hauled into prison, I can
00:23:18.740 tell you in Ontario when those executives from the head office in the U.S. come up, not
00:23:24.880 only are they not put in prison, they waive the Quarantine Act.
00:23:28.520 They don't have the quarantine.
00:23:30.340 They're very important senior executives.
00:23:32.420 So I'm really getting tired, Sheila, of the hypocrisy, you know, that the Wuhan virus,
00:23:38.440 it'll affect certain groups, but not other groups.
00:23:41.440 And it really comes down to not who you are, but who you know.
00:23:46.720 If you're part of the elites, there's a different set of rules than for everybody else.
00:23:51.680 And I don't see, again, how our elected officials, our bureaucrats, our chief medical health officers,
00:23:59.400 who I think are becoming drunk on power, Sheila, these were not people anyone could name a year
00:24:06.000 ago.
00:24:06.380 Now they're household names.
00:24:07.540 I think enough is enough.
00:24:10.460 And moving forward with Grace Life Church, what is the end game here?
00:24:17.260 Has Pastor Coates won?
00:24:19.240 Is this an all-out victory?
00:24:21.040 Or can this church and this pastor expect yet more harassment from the usual suspects?
00:24:27.960 Well, it would seem that way.
00:24:30.080 I mean, the police and the health inspectors were in attendance and tried to enter the church
00:24:35.620 on the very first Sunday that Pastor Coates was back.
00:24:38.980 And Pastor Coates did not give the sermon, not unexpected.
00:24:42.600 I mean, he didn't have his seminary tools with him when he was in prison.
00:24:47.460 So he didn't have a sermon prepared, but he did give prayers at the beginning and prayers
00:24:53.580 at the end.
00:24:54.200 And, you know, you could tell it's pretty frightening, pretty jarring when you've just been out of jail
00:25:04.260 after 35 days the way Pastor Coates was.
00:25:07.440 And now, for the first time in five weeks, the RCMP are trying to enter your church.
00:25:13.300 It seems to me that the harassment isn't going away.
00:25:18.260 But when I did that interview with Pastor Coates, I flat-out asked him, would you do it again?
00:25:23.860 And it would appear he's, not only would he do it again, he's going to do it again, as
00:25:28.540 then he's going to be up on the pulpit on Easter Sunday.
00:25:32.000 And if, you know, he has to go back to jail to be obedient and to be a man of conscience,
00:25:39.520 well, he told me that's what he's willing to do.
00:25:41.580 And his family's standing by him, and so is his congregation.
00:25:44.540 What a principled man, because I know, I've never been in that institution, thank God,
00:25:49.680 but I know that maximum security facility in Edmonton is a place nobody in their right
00:25:54.200 mind wants to spend one day in, let alone 35 days.
00:25:58.380 And I guess we should wrap it here, Sheila.
00:25:59.900 One last point.
00:26:01.380 Again, I bring it back to Premier Kenney.
00:26:03.960 I think he really wears the hair shirt when it comes to this.
00:26:08.480 When he was a cabinet minister under the Stephen Harper federal government, he was responsible
00:26:15.580 for a religious freedom bill.
00:26:17.680 I guess we didn't read the fine print.
00:26:19.860 That meant religious freedoms for countries abroad.
00:26:23.420 It didn't mean for provinces within Canada, or am I misreading this, Sheila?
00:26:29.220 No, you're exactly right.
00:26:30.500 When Jason Kenney was in Stephen Harper's cabinet, central to the foreign policy goals of the Harper
00:26:36.100 government was religious freedom, I guess abroad, and not so much at home.
00:26:41.800 You know, they had the, basically an embassy of religious freedom, the Office of Religious
00:26:46.620 Freedom, and it was meant to help pastors experiencing exactly what Pastor Coates is going through
00:26:52.900 in places like China.
00:26:55.900 I never thought that we would need an Office of Religious Liberty back here at home, but
00:27:00.540 maybe we do.
00:27:01.780 But who formulates that for us?
00:27:03.460 Who creates something like that for us?
00:27:04.960 The NDP, they're chanting for that church to be closed.
00:27:08.700 They're chanting for Pastor Coates to be locked up and the continued suffering of his family.
00:27:15.400 Those are our options here in Alberta.
00:27:18.020 Bad and even worse when it comes to this file.
00:27:21.420 Yeah, I think we'll wrap it there.
00:27:23.260 Dumb and dumber depicts the government and the official opposition in Alberta these days
00:27:28.680 when it comes to charter rights and freedoms in lieu of the Wuhan virus.
00:27:32.500 Sheila, excellent journalism.
00:27:33.880 The only journalism, because you're the only journalist that got onto the property.
00:27:38.480 And thanks so much for weighing in on this issue.
00:27:41.540 Great, David.
00:27:42.140 Thanks.
00:27:42.440 Have a great weekend.
00:27:43.260 You too, my friend.
00:27:44.180 And happy Easter.
00:27:45.040 And that was Sheila Gunn-Reed somewhere in the northern hinterland of Alberta.
00:27:50.120 Keep it here, folks.
00:27:51.080 More of Rebel Roundup to come right after this.
00:27:53.220 You know what?
00:27:59.140 None of the fines, they all get thrown out too, right?
00:28:01.980 So, and you know what?
00:28:03.240 There's a very interesting thing.
00:28:04.560 The Bowmanville cops have been quite lovely.
00:28:06.780 Even though they come, they have told me, we're waiting for all of you to stand up, because
00:28:11.860 once you stand up, we stand up.
00:28:13.900 People, the general public thinks that these rights are guaranteed to us, and they are guaranteed
00:28:17.920 to us.
00:28:18.280 But the only way they continue to be guaranteed to us is by exercising these rights and fighting
00:28:21.700 for them on a daily basis in any way we legally can.
00:28:24.760 The world has become so easy.
00:28:26.460 Like, first world countries are so easy that idiots and people that don't know a lot can
00:28:30.380 really thrive.
00:28:31.160 And they outnumber the rest of us.
00:28:34.420 Most people don't go to the gym, so they don't realize how good it would be, how huge of an
00:28:40.260 impact it would have during a pandemic.
00:28:42.440 We're all going to stick together.
00:28:44.320 It's not going to get any better.
00:28:45.960 And to see something like that, and we're not allowed to carry our own country's flag,
00:28:50.080 Travis.
00:28:50.480 David Menzies for Rebel News here at Queen's Park in Toronto.
00:28:54.400 Well, folks, this is a huge day of protests the world over.
00:28:57.940 In fact, as I'm speaking right now, there are huge protests all over Europe going on,
00:29:03.680 from Germany and the UK to Croatia and Switzerland.
00:29:08.480 This is by people who are sick of the lockdowns, sick of being unemployed, sick of not being able
00:29:15.180 to go to the gym, and they're voicing their opinion.
00:29:17.860 Now, it's very interesting.
00:29:19.800 Almost a year ago, on these very grounds, is when the so-called Yahoo Nation protests began.
00:29:27.040 And, folks, just check out the video.
00:29:30.180 These were indeed peaceful protests, and for some reason or another, it was actually tolerated
00:29:36.040 back then.
00:29:36.880 Check out this footage from last spring.
00:29:38.920 This is the site of another protest by Torontonians and others who want to get the economy open.
00:29:46.000 Now, you may recall Premier Doug Ford, his response to these people, well, he called them
00:29:51.700 a bunch of yahoos.
00:29:53.580 This was Premier Ford's slur against the group that appeared here.
00:29:57.640 But as we know, when it came to the new year, starting in January, the authorities took a
00:30:03.400 very different view of peaceful protesters.
00:30:06.680 And by the way, that's what these anti-lockdown people are.
00:30:09.480 Not mostly peaceful protesters, but actually 100% peaceful protesters.
00:30:14.360 Check out how our rights to assemble for free speech, even freedom of the press, were trampled
00:30:22.700 upon at Yonge-Dondas Square going back to this January.
00:30:26.820 They're looking for people that hold signs.
00:30:29.500 They're looking for people that speak into a megaphone.
00:30:33.100 Because in Tyrant Tories, Toronto, that is apparently against the law.
00:30:39.800 So it is that Yonge-Dondas Square is a no-man's land.
00:31:01.800 It should be the heart of the city.
00:31:03.680 That's clearly not the case.
00:31:04.960 So here, the demonstrators have gathered on the northern lawns of Queen's Park.
00:31:10.260 And it's kind of a funny vibe.
00:31:13.280 Unlike several weeks ago, when the demonstrations were far smaller, the police aren't exerting
00:31:19.540 themselves in terms of arresting people for, oh, I don't know, such egregious crimes as
00:31:25.080 displaying a sign, decrying communism, flying a Canadian flag, quoting biblical passages,
00:31:32.160 or simply for standing on a street corner.
00:31:34.880 Yeah, talk about herd immunity.
00:31:37.240 It doesn't look like the police are going to assert their authority in terms of trampling
00:31:42.780 these people and their constitutional rights.
00:31:46.940 So how do you like them apples, folks?
00:31:48.820 Apparently, all one needs for Toronto police to modify their bully boy behavior is for a critical
00:31:55.000 mass of people to show up at an anti-lockdown demonstration.
00:31:58.860 It shouldn't be that way, but we are now residing in Torrey Town, which is becoming more and
00:32:05.540 more of a shite hole every day thanks to our testicular-challenged mayor.
00:32:10.700 In any event, you had plenty to say about those anti-lockdown demonstrators who finally got to
00:32:15.980 have their say without any of them being ticketed and hauled off in a paddy wagon.
00:32:22.020 Canadian Breeze writes,
00:32:23.360 What can the government do if 35 million people have had enough?
00:32:29.040 Nothing.
00:32:30.220 Bingo, Canadian Breeze.
00:32:32.000 Just imagine if the lion's share of shopkeepers followed Adam Skelly's rebel stance back in
00:32:37.980 November.
00:32:39.300 Well, I don't have to imagine because this lockdown would finally be over.
00:32:44.740 Tom C. writes,
00:32:45.820 These are clearly peaceful protesters.
00:32:48.840 The only violence has been from the police.
00:32:51.080 You are correct, sir.
00:32:52.740 And from racial justice protesters last summer, don't forget.
00:32:57.500 But the Wuhan virus protocols don't apply to them because, well, they're special.
00:33:03.160 Lynn Pringle writes,
00:33:04.460 Our rights have been trampled on.
00:33:07.180 Just last weekend, there was a protest against racism.
00:33:11.000 No police, no problem, even though people were packed.
00:33:14.240 It was okay for that, but not to protest for your given rights.
00:33:20.040 That is the reality right now.
00:33:22.660 We are under totalitarian government.
00:33:25.800 You know, you are correct, Lynn.
00:33:27.200 The protest you speak of was one to denounce anti-Asian hate,
00:33:32.100 something that the left is blaming on, if you can believe it, Donald Trump.
00:33:36.700 And no, I'm not making that up.
00:33:38.440 The protesters jammed into Nathan Phillips Square.
00:33:41.140 You know, that place where the city security guards tried to arrest us for practicing journalism last summer.
00:33:47.860 And despite this illegal gathering, nobody, to my knowledge, was charged with anything.
00:33:54.400 And I reached out to the mayor's office and the city of Toronto spokesman
00:33:58.260 and the Toronto police spokeswoman to understand why this double standard was being tolerated.
00:34:04.720 And guess what? Radio silence from all three parties.
00:34:10.080 So, not only are they hypocrites, they're cowards, too.
00:34:15.040 Davina Marshall writes,
00:34:16.580 Not a mask in sight. I love it.
00:34:18.360 Oh, I love it, too, Davina.
00:34:20.020 I'm sick of seeing people wearing those disgusting face diapers.
00:34:24.120 Who knew that when Billy Idol recorded Eyes Without a Face in 1983,
00:34:28.300 that he was actually talking about the world in 2021.
00:34:33.940 Lessa 21 Abel writes,
00:34:36.620 I just got a call to ask for money for Ford for next year.
00:34:39.980 When I asked when he was going to open up the province
00:34:42.640 and when the churches were going to be opened, they hung up on me.
00:34:47.040 Ford, not a penny until you open the province completely.
00:34:52.380 Wow, Lessa 21 Abel, what a story.
00:34:55.380 The PCs phone you, begging for money,
00:34:58.420 and when you respond with a perfectly reasonable request,
00:35:01.540 they hang up the phone?
00:35:03.680 Disgusting, but not surprising.
00:35:05.360 After all, Premier Doug Ford has hung up on Ford Nation
00:35:09.380 ever since he branded them as being a bunch of yahoos last year.
00:35:13.520 How profoundly sad.
00:35:16.960 And Robin Burnett Kilzab writes,
00:35:20.360 Great job, Rebel News.
00:35:22.460 You have become Canadian heroes.
00:35:25.120 We so appreciate you.
00:35:26.960 Well, thanks for the kind words, Robin.
00:35:29.040 But our heroism is simply doing our job of covering such events.
00:35:34.100 Oh, and by the way,
00:35:35.380 how many members of the mainstream media came out that day?
00:35:39.500 Well, the number rhymes with hero.
00:35:43.580 Well, that wraps up another edition of Rebel Roundup.
00:35:45.780 Thanks so much for joining us.
00:35:47.460 See you next week.
00:35:48.200 And hey, folks, never forget,
00:35:49.940 without risk, there can be no glory.
00:35:52.120 Good night.
00:35:52.500 Good night.
