00:04:04.280 Videos and messages from Chinese citizens leaking through the censorship suggested the situation
00:04:10.060 was much worse than what the regime was reporting.

00:04:32.680 this allegedly started spontaneously in the seafood market in Wuhan, China.
00:04:37.840 Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province, the largest city in central China.
00:04:49.200 Huanan Seafood Market is located in Jianghan district of Wuhan city.
00:04:53.900 It is a large, comprehensive market that includes pork and a variety of frozen seafood,
00:04:58.960 flavored spices, as well as some game meats.
00:05:01.880 The first thing that received public attention about the epidemic
00:05:05.440 was an internal notice from the Wuhan Health Commission.
00:05:09.200 There has been a continuous occurrence of pneumonia cases of unknown cause.
00:05:13.780 The notice issued on December 30, 2019,
00:05:17.080 clearly required all medical units to report similar cases of unknown pneumonia.
00:05:22.460 The notice started spreading online.
00:05:24.540 And on December 31, 2019,
00:05:27.440 the Wuhan Health Commission issued a public notice for the first time
00:05:32.040 saying that some medical institutions found a link
00:05:35.460 between the pneumonia cases and the Huanan Seafood Market.
00:05:39.660 However, the notice pointed out that there was no evidence
00:05:42.080 of obvious human-to-human transmission
00:05:44.140 and no infection among medical personnel.
00:05:46.860 On January 1, 2020,
00:05:48.940 the Huanan Seafood Market posted a notice of closure.
00:05:51.760 This was followed by a thorough cleanup of the market,
00:05:55.360 which as an investigative reporter seemed rushed.
00:05:59.260 Guan Yi, a well-known Hong Kong expert,
00:06:02.040 echoed my concern that the move was like destroying a crime scene.
00:06:06.360 Since then, Wuhan officials have repeatedly said
00:06:09.340 that most cases of pneumonia in Wuhan
00:06:11.840 have a history of exposure to the Huanan Seafood Market.
00:06:15.240 On January 26,
00:06:16.700 the Institute of Virology of China CDC
00:06:19.220 announced that 33 of the 585 environmental samples
00:06:23.760 from the Huanan Seafood Market
00:06:25.360 were found to contain the novel coronavirus nucleic acid.
00:06:30.040 And the virus was successfully isolated
00:06:32.260 from the positive culture samples,
00:06:34.440 suggesting that the virus originated
00:06:36.260 from wild animals sold at the market.
00:06:38.720 At this point,
00:06:40.080 Huanan Seafood Market being the source of the epidemic
00:06:42.780 became an official conclusion.
00:06:44.500 A few days later, however,
00:06:46.560 a report from the journal Science published online
00:06:49.140 challenged that story.
00:06:50.920 The report cited a paper in The Lancet,
00:06:53.460 one of the world's top medical journals,
00:06:55.440 and questioned whether Wuhan's novel coronavirus pneumonia
00:06:59.000 could not have originated at the market.
00:07:02.900 The paper, titled
00:07:03.880 Clinical Features of Patients Infected
00:07:06.180 with a 2019 Novel Coronavirus in Wuhan, China,
00:07:09.320 was published in The Lancet on January 24.
00:07:12.200 The first author of the paper is
00:07:14.740 Huang Chaolin,
00:07:16.200 Deputy Director of Jin Yintan Hospital,
00:07:20.460 the first designated hospital
00:07:22.120 for treatment of unknown pneumonia in Wuhan.
00:07:24.760 Why would this come as a challenge
00:07:26.120 to the official narrative?
00:07:27.840 I think this journal article is very important.
00:07:30.560 It reveals a lot of important information.
00:07:33.100 For example, this paper talks about
00:07:34.720 the first patient onset
00:07:35.920 was actually on December 1st.
00:07:37.980 These patients were not related to
00:07:41.520 the Huanan Sifu market.
00:07:44.060 And also, no epidemiological association
00:07:46.480 was found between the first patient
00:07:48.860 and subsequent patient.
00:07:50.860 And then also, on this paper,
00:07:52.140 they talk about on December 10th,
00:07:53.960 there were three more onset cases,
00:07:56.380 two of which were not related
00:07:58.100 to the Huanan Sifu market wholesale.
00:08:00.400 Major discovery is that a total of 41 patients
00:08:03.280 were counted in this paper,
00:08:04.760 and 14 of them proved to be unrelated
00:08:07.340 to the seafood market,
00:08:09.220 accounting for more than one-third.
00:08:11.780 No one sells bats at the seafood market, too.
00:08:14.640 And the official from CDC didn't mention
00:08:17.440 they find any bats in the seafood market, too.
00:08:20.520 Certainly, the Lancet paper showing that
00:08:22.880 supposed patient zero
00:08:24.620 was nowhere near the market.

00:08:59.260 of the 425 cases confirmed,
00:09:02.940 45 cases onset before January 1st
00:09:06.260 had no history of exposure
00:09:07.860 to the seafood market.
00:09:09.560 Notably, the authors

00:09:12.000 in the New England Journal of Medicine
00:09:13.660 are doctors and medical experts
00:09:15.640 in mainland China.
00:09:17.080 Daniel Lucey, an epidemiologist
