00:00:00.480 You're listening to a Rebel Media Podcast.
00:00:03.880 Tonight, Victoria, British Columbia's radical environmentalist mayor is coming to Alberta
00:00:08.280 to check out just how we make the oil and to see if we're really as bad as she's pretty
00:00:13.180 sure we are.
00:00:14.480 Will she come with an open mind or is she coming just to quell her critics and not her curiosity?
00:00:22.120 I'm Sheila Gunn-Reed and you're watching The Ezra Levant Show.
00:00:25.760 Why should others go to jail when you're the biggest carbon consumer I know?
00:00:31.580 There's 8,500 customers here and you won't give them an answer.
00:00:35.680 The only thing I have to say to the government about why I'm publishing it is because it's
00:00:40.040 my bloody right to do so.
00:00:46.860 On Wednesday, Victoria's mayor, Lisa Helps, says she'll make the long trip to Alberta on
00:00:52.620 April 22nd and she says she's coming to visit us with an open mind.
00:00:57.440 Now, Helps was invited by Calgary City Councilor Ward Sutherland back in January in a tweet
00:01:03.900 that he sent.
00:01:04.540 Now, Sutherland challenged her to come and learn about Alberta's ethical oil and gas industry
00:01:10.040 and our environmental initiatives in the oil patch.
00:01:13.420 On the agenda, Helps will apparently tour a steam-assisted gravity drainage project near
00:01:19.420 Fort McMurray.
00:01:21.420 April in Alberta, it's not for the faint of heart or the pampered.
00:01:25.560 I hope Helps dresses warm because she's in for a rude awakening.
00:01:29.080 Her trip to Fort McMurray is going to be no fun without our old friend fossil fuels.
00:01:35.920 Helps said, and I quote,
00:01:37.300 Now, I'll get back to that pointing fingers comment from Helps in a second.
00:01:56.700 But Helps also says that she would like to meet with Mayor Nahid Nenshi of Calgary while
00:02:03.160 she's here. I hope Nenshi hides all the pickup trucks and F-350s to impress his new lady friend
00:02:09.540 about just how progressive we all are here in Alberta. Remember this?
00:02:14.520 What I am interested in is just helping everyone in Canada understand that we here in Alberta are
00:02:20.720 not a bunch of, you know, F-350 driving cavemen.
00:02:24.460 Anyway, enough dragging Nenshi. Let's get back to dragging Lisa Helps, shall we?
00:02:29.160 Mayor Helps is a, I'm going to be honest here, a real piece of work.
00:02:33.160 She's been in the news a lot lately.
00:02:35.240 She's like the perfect storm of all the Canadian social justice issues of the day.
00:02:40.040 She's anti-colonialist. She's anti-free speech.
00:02:43.940 She's oozing with misplaced white guilt.
00:02:46.420 She wants to erase history 1984 style.
00:02:49.040 And she's a raging environmentalist to boot.
00:02:51.980 Of course she is.
00:02:52.880 And I'm not even exaggerating a little bit here.
00:02:55.320 I'm probably downplaying just how Kooky Helps is.
00:02:58.680 Let's take a quick look back at some of Mayor Helps' recent greatest hits so you know exactly
00:03:04.500 who's going to end up on our doorstep and what kind of open mindset she's coming to visit us with.
00:03:09.960 Let's start with the reason Helps got the invitation to Alberta in the first place.
00:03:15.540 Victoria's city council endorsed a class action lawsuit along with other BC municipalities to sue oil and gas companies as part of a larger campaign by the Vancouver-based firm West Coast Environmental Law.
00:03:32.100 The lawsuit is supposed to, and I'm quoting here, recover costs arising from climate change from major fossil fuel development.
00:03:42.960 And they told me they're against finger pointing.
00:03:45.640 What these municipalities want the oil and gas companies to do is basically subsidize, or really pay for anything that the municipality deems related to climate change.
00:03:56.440 Apropos of nothing and proof be damned.
00:03:59.300 More snowfall, well, they want the oil company to pony up some cash for the snow budget.
00:04:05.600 More rain, well, then they want the oil company to help with the storm sewer system upgrades.
00:04:12.460 Temperate weather causing the grass to grow a little faster on the city streets, well, then maybe the oil company needs to pay to hire more landscapers for the city.
00:04:22.880 This vague and ridiculous money grab enraged some city councillors in Calgary, and that's what set this whole visit by Helps in motion.
00:04:34.040 But Helps was making headlines long before her extortion lawsuit against oil companies.
00:04:40.600 You see, she's the mayor that made international headlines by removing a statue of John A. Macdonald from out front of Victoria City Hall as a way to reconcile with First Nations communities.
00:04:56.120 Making the whole thing even crazier, not only was John A. Macdonald Canada's first prime minister, an important part of our history, but he was also the MP for Victoria for many years.
00:05:07.800 The whole decision to take down the statue to erase history was done in a vote in council without any input from the community outside of a few agitating activists.
00:05:18.560 Helps said she discussed the teardown of the statue with what she called the City Family, which according to residents of Victoria doesn't actually include them.
00:05:29.220 How weird, what a weird thing to say, the City Family. It's very Orwellian.
00:05:34.380 Now, the sculptor of the statue described Helps' actions as arbitrary and undemocratic.
00:05:40.920 He said, and I'm quoting here,
00:05:42.820 I cannot believe any rational person who has reflected on our history can really think that removing about 150 kilos of bronze from view is going to change our history or help us understand it better.
00:05:57.920 Amen, sculptor.
00:05:58.880 Helps is the kind of person that I would probably just write off as another ill-informed nutcase, one I would imagine has blue hair and far too many cats, problem glasses, and some sort of a woman's places in the resistance t-shirt, the kind he thinks that hiding history just erases it, and that we must dig up the dead to scold them for not being woke enough in their time.
00:06:22.020 But I can't do that, because she's the elected mayor of the capital of British Columbia, and that's what makes her very dangerous.
00:06:31.040 She's got a platform, and for some bizarre reason, people think she's credible.
00:06:36.320 And I don't think that she's going to come here to visit us with good intentions in her heart.
00:06:41.380 Now, April 26th, that's a long way off.
00:06:44.120 It's February 22nd today, so I suppose if the anti-fossil fuel mayor of Victoria just starts walking now, she just might make it in time.
00:06:54.100 I mean, though, who am I kidding?
00:06:55.840 Helps won't be dog sledding it here.
00:06:57.980 These anti-fossil fuel elites, they never practice what they preach,
00:07:02.480 and they never make their trips to lecture us and lie about us from the pinnacle of a low-carbon lifestyle.
00:07:11.440 And they never come with an open mind, no matter how many times they say they will.
00:07:16.900 They never come to be honest.
00:07:19.120 They never come to be wowed.
00:07:20.940 They're here to be dishonest, to go back to wherever they came from,
00:07:25.620 and say they came, but never actually come to see and say the truth.
00:07:30.940 They show up in their private jets, and then they transfer themselves into waiting, idling SUVs to see only what they want to see.
00:07:40.900 Rachel Notley's hand-picked co-chair of the Oil Sands Advisory Group,
00:07:45.080 a long-time anti-oil activist named Sappora Berman.
00:07:48.940 She's the one, for those of you keeping track at home, who put an emissions cap on future oil sands development,
00:07:54.360 which basically rules out future oil sands development.
00:07:57.700 Well, she went all the way to Fort McMurray to see for herself what was actually happening there.
00:08:03.480 I mean, she spent the better part of two decades fighting against Fort McMurray.
00:08:08.300 She may as well actually go and lay eyes on what she's fighting against, right?
00:08:12.640 That makes sense.
00:08:13.780 Just look at the impression she says she left with here.
00:08:17.720 Well, the tar sands are the single largest and most destructive industrial project on Earth.
00:08:23.240 So when you're there, you know, it feels a bit like Mordor.
00:08:27.260 Yes, yes, it's nothing but shoeless hobbits running around throwing rings into volcanoes up there in Fort McMurray,
00:08:33.400 just like Mordor.
00:08:34.400 Thanks, Sappora.
00:08:35.600 Do these shameless liars know that there's this thing called Google Earth
00:08:39.600 that you can actually, like, see what Fort McMurray really looks like for yourself.
00:08:45.140 And then there's this also thing called the Internet, where people even post pictures of their community
00:08:50.940 so that other people can see them too.
00:08:54.780 Berman saw an open work site.
00:08:56.920 And open work sites, well, they aren't very pretty, no matter what the open work site is.
00:09:01.960 I bet her fancy house, bought with two decades of money earned opposing the people in Alberta,
00:09:08.260 was a disgusting open pit before it was completed into luxury also.
00:09:14.280 Remember when Jane Fonda also came to Fort McMurray with an open mind?
00:09:19.960 Old Hanoi Jane jetted up to Fort McMurray and then was scuttled around the town in a black full-sized SUV,
00:09:27.420 preventing her from coming into dangerous contact with the locals and anyone else who might disagree with her.
00:09:34.940 Fonda was there at the behest of foreign-funded radicals and indigenous groups and environmentalists.
00:09:42.800 And look what Fonda had to say about beautiful, picturesque Fort McMurray,
00:09:48.340 one of the most beautiful and natural cities in the entire world, if you want my humble opinion,
00:09:55.240 after she went on a flyover of an open mind site.
00:09:59.540 Now, just watch.
00:10:01.900 It's like someone took my skin and peeled it off my body over a very large surface.
00:10:07.500 I don't want to make a joke about how much plastic surgery Jane Fonda has had.
00:10:11.400 And I know it's a little rude, but you know what, people? She started it.
00:10:14.500 So you know what? I do believe she does know what it's like to have somebody take the skin off her face,
00:10:20.120 peel it off, and then reattach it.
00:10:22.180 I think there's a lot of that going on with Fonda.
00:10:24.300 Anyway, let's move on to the next environmentalist celebrity in his twilight years,
00:10:30.380 who again also said he came to Fort McMurray with an open heart and an open mind just to see for himself.
00:10:37.140 Musician Neil Young came to Fort McMurray,
00:10:39.180 and he also had some ridiculous things to say about that beautiful city here.
00:10:46.220 The fact is, Fort McMurray looks like Hiroshima.
00:10:50.640 Fort McMurray is a wasteland.
00:10:53.000 The Indians up there and the native peoples are dying.
00:10:57.060 The fuels all over, the fumes everywhere, you can smell it when you get to town.
00:11:01.660 The closest place to Fort McMurray that is doing the tar sands work is 25 or 30 miles out of town,
00:11:08.880 and you can taste it when you get to Fort McMurray.
00:11:11.960 People are sick.
00:11:14.060 People are dying of cancer because of this.
00:11:17.120 Now, Neil and Jane, they're both from California,
00:11:20.120 which means they might not actually know what pristine, beautiful, clean air and wilderness looks like when they see it.
00:11:26.260 For a couple of reasons.
00:11:27.560 They really don't have clean, pristine land where Jane and Neil are from, not like we have here.
00:11:34.340 But it's also just so smoggy in California that if they did have clean land, you might not be able to see it in the first place.
00:11:42.700 In 2018, despite years of Democrat rule and oppressive environmental regulations and policy,
00:11:48.720 Southern California had nearly three solid months, 87 days in a row of smog.
00:11:55.060 Now, smog is actual pollution.
00:11:57.540 It's not like CO2, how the liberals call CO2 pollution, right?
00:12:02.620 Look at this.
00:12:03.440 It's in the LA Times.
00:12:05.120 The ozone pollution spell began June 19th and continued through July and August,
00:12:11.760 with every day exceeding the federal health standard of 70 parts per billion,
00:12:17.480 somewhere across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
00:12:23.400 It didn't relent until September 14th when air pollution dipped to moderate levels within federal limits for ozone,
00:12:32.160 the lung damaging gas in smog that triggers asthma and other respiratory illnesses.
00:12:38.040 So these two fancy pants pampered celebrities flew up to one of, and I'll say it again,
00:12:44.860 the most beautiful and clean places in the world to tell them how to clean up their act.
00:12:50.140 Well, back home in Southern California, summers are literally toxic.
00:12:54.620 You know what?
00:12:55.480 Beat it, hippies.
00:12:56.740 Fort McMurray doesn't get smog.
00:12:58.780 It might get a little smoke from forest fires once in a while.
00:13:02.060 Last night, I checked in on the air quality in Fort McMurray, and it's a three.
00:13:07.380 Very, very, very low risk.
00:13:10.020 Ironically, and probably much to the surprise of Mayor Helps,
00:13:13.640 it's exactly the same air quality as Victoria at the very same time.
00:13:19.700 Actually, all the lies about Fort McMurray that people were buying
00:13:23.060 from people who claim they came there with an open mind
00:13:27.720 prompted oil stands activist Robbie Picard to start a video series called Visit Fort McMurray
00:13:33.900 where he talks about the hidden gems and local beauty of his community.
00:13:39.240 He's trying to dispel the myths about Fort McMurray,
00:13:42.500 not to the people who came and saw and went home and lied anyway,
00:13:48.280 but to the people who might accidentally believe Neil Young or Sephora Berman
00:13:53.500 or Jane Fonda or Lisa Helps in the future.
00:13:57.940 So what's my point here?
00:13:58.980 Besides that, I think you may have picked up by now, I can't stand these people.
00:14:03.840 Is it really worth it to invite these sorts of people to come to Alberta
00:14:07.840 when we know they have bad intentions for us?
00:14:10.600 I don't think we gain anything by dragging these folks past a SAG-D site
00:14:15.400 when they'll never understand it anyway.
00:14:18.280 The only way to change Helps' mind is to make her sit down with the people
00:14:22.780 that her bad ideas are hurting.
00:14:25.140 Entrepreneurial Aboriginal bands, oil sands workers, truckers, farmers,
00:14:29.980 families who are struggling to afford their groceries,
00:14:33.480 moms and dads who have been laid off because Rachel Notley tried to buy social license
00:14:39.580 with a carbon tax from somebody exactly like Mayor Lisa Helps.
00:14:44.580 That's what helps, needs to experience when she comes here.
00:14:49.080 That's what they all need to experience,
00:14:51.300 not some polished flyover for rich people.
00:14:54.580 They need to experience reality.
00:14:57.340 Stay with us.
00:14:58.280 More up next after the break.
00:14:59.880 So what happens if the elites won't come to the people
00:15:17.160 and won't listen to the people?
00:15:18.880 Well, then you bring the people to the elites.
00:15:21.940 And that's exactly what my next guest did.
00:15:24.640 Joining me now from Sault Ste. Marie is Haley Weil.
00:15:27.920 She's one of the organizers of the United We Roll convoy
00:15:31.760 that left Red Deer last week and went all the way to Ottawa.
00:15:35.240 Hey, Haley, thanks for joining me.
00:15:36.760 I know it's late.
00:15:38.620 We're recording this late.
00:15:40.700 You guys are finally getting a bite to eat.
00:15:43.460 You're on your way back.
00:15:45.480 But I wanted to touch base with you because a lot of people
00:15:49.420 are presenting themselves in the media as organizers of the convoy.
00:15:54.980 But I haven't spoken to any of them.
00:15:57.900 I've spoken to you and to Glenn.
00:16:00.760 But I think the media have been very eager to point to anybody
00:16:06.240 loosely associated with the Yellow Vest movement as an organizer,
00:16:10.460 as an attempt to discredit you guys.
00:16:13.120 What do you have to say about that?
00:16:15.040 Yeah, I would have to say that I agree with you.
00:16:17.200 I mean, it's been a quick process.
00:16:20.880 It's been about six weeks.
00:16:22.520 But, yeah, I would say it was Glenn, myself,
00:16:25.380 and there's a gentleman named Jason Corbill that was also very instrumental.
00:16:29.500 But basically it was the three of us.
00:16:31.800 That's not to say that we didn't get lots of support.
00:16:34.580 We sure did.
00:16:35.760 But as far as the organization, the logistics, the rallying of the troops,
00:16:41.180 I would definitely say it was myself and Glenn for the most part.
00:16:46.080 You know, it's funny.
00:16:47.880 The mainstream media is just so eager to say that everybody's an organizer,
00:16:52.520 but they've actually never spoken to you or reached out to you guys.
00:16:56.120 So I think that's one of the big reasons I wanted to have you on,
00:16:59.700 was there's a lot of things floating around about the convoy.
00:17:03.640 And instead of going to second people and rumor mongers,
00:17:08.740 I thought I would take it right to you guys.
00:17:11.920 First rumor that's out there,
00:17:14.200 people are actually suggesting that us here at The Rebel,
00:17:17.600 that we funded you.
00:17:21.120 You're kidding.
00:17:22.660 Yeah.
00:17:24.100 We had to crowdfund to send our...
00:17:27.280 We charged you on the bus.
00:17:29.260 Are you kidding?
00:17:30.220 I know.
00:17:31.180 I know.
00:17:31.900 You charged us.
00:17:33.060 Which is fair.
00:17:34.440 I mean, the buses aren't free to go on your bus.
00:17:37.440 So I think it's so funny that people are suggesting that we somehow paid you
00:17:41.620 guys to do this thing when we had to crowdfund the few hundred bucks to go.
00:17:46.220 For donations, we reached out to many companies and nobody was interested.
00:17:51.620 To be honest, a week ago, people didn't even take us serious.
00:17:55.920 It's been quite a struggle for us,
00:17:57.900 but somehow, some way, Glenn Carrick kept his confidence about him.
00:18:01.820 And that's why I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make this happen.
00:18:05.500 And I'm really proud that we did.
00:18:07.020 We never gave up.
00:18:08.440 Yeah.
00:18:08.820 I mean, I've seen even, for example, Jesse Brown from Canada Land.
00:18:13.720 He's a bit of a left wing.
00:18:15.380 He calls himself a journalist, but also a journalist watcher.
00:18:18.420 And he said that you guys paid fake protesters.
00:18:25.980 Who paid you guys?
00:18:27.700 Nobody's paid us anything, but I will say that the support has been absolutely unreal.
00:18:37.220 We pull up to gas stations and people are offering to fill us up.
00:18:41.200 We pull up to little communities and they've got bag lunches and cut carrots and cupcakes
00:18:46.260 with United We Roll.
00:18:48.040 We've basically been paid in love and support by fellow Canadians.
00:18:51.940 No company was interested in being involved.
00:18:55.520 I don't know if they thought we were too controversial.
00:18:58.280 Maybe they thought we were wackadoodles for what we were about to do.
00:19:02.420 But, I mean, Glenn believed in this so strongly.
00:19:05.720 And, of course, I support him 100%.
00:19:08.500 Now, CBC has said that your convoy was a magnet for radicalism and extremism.
00:19:17.640 Did you see any of that on the convoy?
00:19:22.340 CBC is the radicals.
00:19:24.960 And I'll tell you why I feel that way.
00:19:26.900 I woke up on Tuesday morning super excited to have a voice for Canadians,
00:19:32.700 people who trusted us to represent them here in Ottawa.
00:19:37.160 And my very first phone interview was live, some kind of a traffic report.
00:19:44.200 I'm not sure what it was, but it was CBC.
00:19:45.980 And she dared to ask me the question, what color were the people in my convoy?
00:19:52.120 And so my response to her was, what kind of a question is that?
00:19:57.280 You clearly have a narrative.
00:19:59.780 Our whole convoy is made up of Canadians.
00:20:03.140 We're all different colors.
00:20:04.620 We're all different races, religions.
00:20:06.820 We all have different opinions.
00:20:09.100 But the beauty of United We Roll is acceptance.
00:20:12.440 And we're not putting people in boxes.
00:20:15.660 And it's not an endorsement or not an endorsement.
00:20:19.040 It's respecting that each of us has an opinion and a right to express it.
00:20:24.100 You know, that was a great way to deal with the CBC because it's true.
00:20:31.900 They really have a predetermined narrative.
00:20:35.820 I think it really didn't matter what you were going to say to the CBC.
00:20:40.560 You could have told them that you were the minority on the convoy.
00:20:46.580 And it still wouldn't have been enough because then they would have said, well, how many gay truckers do you have?
00:20:51.680 And then how many transgender truckers do you have?
00:20:54.440 Like we keep quota boxes like they do down at the CBC.
00:20:59.620 I wanted to ask you, though, like now that we've sort of got the gross, terrible stuff out of the way.
00:21:05.460 What was your favorite?
00:21:06.620 This is the CBC, right?
00:21:08.080 What was your favorite stop along the way to Ottawa?
00:21:15.140 Did you have a favorite place that you stopped?
00:21:17.000 Oh, my gosh.
00:21:17.680 I can't even say favorite stop.
00:21:19.180 Okay.
00:21:19.380 First of all, definitely my favorite stop, Sault Ste. Marie.
00:21:22.580 Those people are outrageous.
00:21:26.240 It was awesome.
00:21:27.580 I mean, we're talking six barbecues going.
00:21:30.540 We're talking donuts and pasta.
00:21:33.160 And it was unreal.
00:21:34.940 I took three live videos that night and I basically held up my phone.
00:21:39.600 I was bawling.
00:21:40.280 I looked terrible.
00:21:41.760 And I said, judge for yourself.
00:21:44.840 I'm not going to tell you what you need to think, but here's what's happening.
00:21:49.060 And you judge for yourself if this isn't Canadians uniting and loving and celebrating each other.
00:21:54.780 I mean, it was amazing.
00:21:56.720 And we did experience that in many cities.
00:21:59.180 But wow, Sault Ste. Marie represented.
00:22:03.540 It was awesome.
00:22:04.940 You know, it's funny because you're a Westerner.
00:22:07.960 I'm a Westerner.
00:22:09.300 And I think our politicians like to have us believe that the people on the ground share their sentiment about Western Canada.
00:22:19.340 Well, I've got to correct me, Sheila.
00:22:21.500 I might live in Alberta, but I was born and raised in Nova Scotia.
00:22:24.840 So I feel like I've got a quite broad spectrum of politics.
00:22:28.640 I can understand that people in the East lead with their heart, where people in the West, it seems they have an incredibly strong work ethic.
00:22:39.340 And so I can understand and appreciate both sides.
00:22:43.980 And I think that's why I felt so confident with United We Roll, because we're nonpartisan.
00:22:50.700 We want all governments to listen to the people.
00:22:53.620 I mean, it's just that simple.
00:22:55.360 What happened to us having a right, having a say and having our voices heard?
00:22:59.800 I mean, it's incredibly empowering.
00:23:02.260 And it's very sad how much you get bullied the minute you speak out.
00:23:05.960 You know, just moreover, to your point, I think that like us in the West and you from the East, but you're a Westerner now.
00:23:20.360 I'll take you.
00:23:22.840 I really don't think that we're all that different.
00:23:26.940 And I think our politicians like to sow the seeds of division.
00:23:30.780 But I really think we're all I really think we're all in this together.
00:23:34.080 And I think those stops along the convoy in places where, as Albertans, we normally wouldn't think those people are really care about us and support us.
00:23:43.620 We were terrified to pull across the Ontario border.
00:23:47.700 We had no idea how we were going to be received.
00:23:51.180 We were literally terrified.
00:23:53.280 That was the moment, I think, when reality hit.
00:23:56.040 And we pulled into Dryden and we were so well received with hundreds of people that it actually delayed us.
00:24:04.300 And we had to use our contingency day to stay over in Thunder Bay.
00:24:10.080 I mean, it's amazing.
00:24:11.940 And then we show up at Thunder Bay and there's hundreds of people there with waters and chips and sandwiches.
00:24:18.300 I mean, this was the most Canadian experience I've ever felt in my entire life.
00:24:23.600 And I feel like not only have we woken people up that they're allowed to have an opinion and feelings on things,
00:24:30.340 but I think we might have even sparked a little bit of flame of confidence.
00:24:35.100 And people might call us a rebel, but I don't think it's rebel as much as it is brave.
00:24:40.300 Yeah, and you know what?
00:24:43.120 I think it's funny because at The Rebel, we call ourselves rebels.
00:24:48.660 But I think we represent the views of the mainstream.
00:24:52.560 Like the mainstream people who are maybe afraid to speak out, to say the things that we say, but they're cheering for us.
00:25:00.180 Of course they're afraid to say it.
00:25:01.940 But the minute you say anything that's somewhat controversial or defending bluegrass, I mean, just regular people,
00:25:11.740 the minute you say anything against the mainstream media or your government, you're a racist.
00:25:17.540 And who wants to be called that?
00:25:19.520 I mean, that actually really hurts.
00:25:21.380 So it takes a lot of guts and a real thick skin to say, all right, I'm willing to put myself out there.
00:25:28.180 I know how I'm going to be branded, but I've got to say, like, it's the silent majority.
00:25:33.940 And those people cheered us along and ran out with their little toddlers up on their shoulders at the dark and night.
00:25:41.240 I mean, we had fireworks at native reserves.
00:25:44.720 We were so well received and we were bawling the entire way.
00:25:49.760 Canadians love each other.
00:25:51.300 And I'm so proud of what we've done because we've taken those borders and we've completely destroyed them.
00:25:56.980 So I wanted to ask you, because I'm sure you guys were probably very acutely aware of what was being said about you by the media and by left-wing politicians along the way.
00:26:10.760 What did the convoyers have to say about that?
00:26:14.340 Or what did they feel when they read those things that were being said about them?
00:26:19.160 I mean, to say that we were frustrated would be an incredible understatement.
00:26:23.980 But one thing that we've always really remained focused on is it's a hockey analogy.
00:26:29.420 The moment you've got the puck, you're going to be attacked.
00:26:32.580 So we're confident and strong enough in the love that we are sharing that we know we're being attacked because we've done something amazing.
00:26:40.580 Like, we've done something that politicians would be envious of.
00:26:45.120 Our movement is so authentic and raw.
00:26:48.020 And we've made mistakes and we've been laid.
00:26:51.060 And we're not perfect, but we're real.
00:26:54.020 And that is so inspiring to all Canadians.
00:26:57.520 I mean, it's a true movement of love.
00:26:59.620 And I've got to tell you, it was completely by accident.
00:27:03.320 We could have never anticipated this kind of love and support.
00:27:07.120 We were truly just proud to get the trucks up on the hill.
00:27:11.200 And that was an incredible moment.
00:27:12.940 But the real story is the Canadians.
00:27:15.740 I mean, the love that we felt when we drive by and in the snow is spray painted.
00:27:20.580 Welcome, Alberta truckers.
00:27:23.140 We love Canadian oil and gas.
00:27:26.000 This has opened my eyes and my heart.
00:27:28.800 And I'm just, I mean, I'm over the moon thrilled and joy to be part of something so beautiful.
00:27:33.920 Now, Justin Trudeau said something to the effect that there were, you know, extremist elements within your convoy.
00:27:43.600 And he never came out to meet with you.
00:27:46.060 Neither did any of the Alberta Liberal MPs, including the Natural Resources Minister, Amarjeet Sohi, who says that he cares about pipelines.
00:27:56.100 Alberta's newest senator, Paula Simons.
00:27:58.140 She never came out to meet with you guys.
00:27:59.760 I mean, I just think that's just so disrespectful.
00:28:06.100 It's a huge missed opportunity.
00:28:09.360 I mean, if they truly championed the working class and had a love and respect for Canadian resources, this would have been a beautiful platform.
00:28:19.540 We brought it to their doorstep.
00:28:21.700 But we couldn't have made it any easier for them to come out and clarify and say, hey, Albertans, we love you.
00:28:31.440 They're so repulsed by what we do that they couldn't even bring themselves to come out and acknowledge the sacrifice that was made by these people who are laid off, out of work, broke.
00:28:43.700 I mean, some of these people couldn't even afford their hotel rooms.
00:28:48.020 But I've got to let you know, Canadians have stepped up and they've said, keep going.
00:28:52.820 We've got your back.
00:28:54.040 And we are so grateful for the support that we've received.
00:28:57.960 We didn't go there hoping that the government would change.
00:29:02.120 Obviously, we need to inspire people to not vote Liberal.
00:29:06.000 So, the East needs to change their opinion.
00:29:09.460 And I really hope as a Nova Scotian that I can have a little bit of influence in that.
00:29:14.460 I think you're a pretty good advocate for Nova Scotians in Alberta.
00:29:19.840 I wanted to ask you, you didn't have a lot of support from like mainstream politicians in the beginning.
00:29:30.980 But I saw the tide turning the last week.
00:29:34.300 We had both of our federal MPs from Red Deer, Earl Driesian and Blaine Calkins, both showed up at Gord's truck wash for the send-off.
00:29:42.820 I've got to say, that touched my heart.
00:29:46.180 I noticed, you know, Jason Kenney tweeting support.
00:29:50.520 Andrew Scheer came out to speak.
00:29:52.280 Maxime Bernier, he's not scared to speak in front of anybody.
00:29:57.760 So, you finally did get that mainstream support.
00:30:01.280 But at the very same time, the mainstream media was turning around and trying to say to them, well, why are you speaking with these white supremacists?
00:30:13.760 Why are you speaking at an event where Faith Goldie spoke?
00:30:17.680 Which isn't even true.
00:30:19.880 Faith Goldie, like her or hate her, she didn't speak at your event.
00:30:23.640 She was off somewhere else, standing on a piece of scaffolding.
00:30:28.020 You guys didn't have her speak at your event.
00:30:30.120 The mainstream media, who weren't even there for the most part, are just reporting a complete and total lie.
00:30:36.400 You couldn't be more correct.
00:30:38.580 I mean, I'm not going to say for a second that this wasn't the most challenging obstacle that I've ever taken on in my life.
00:30:45.200 That's why I have mad respect for Glenn Carrot.
00:30:47.520 I mean, he's put a lot on the line to stand up for his industry and his fellow Albertans.
00:30:53.500 And I just have a lot of respect for that.
00:30:55.940 Obviously, that's what inspired me to do the same.
00:30:58.700 I'm an oil field wife and I love Canada's resources.
00:31:03.080 I love them.
00:31:04.180 I'm proud of them.
00:31:05.520 And I think that it's a very sad tragedy for our economy that we aren't getting behind pipelines.
00:31:11.720 I just don't understand it.
00:31:13.920 So that's why I feel like if you don't understand it, it's obviously political, right?
00:31:20.560 Yeah.
00:31:21.380 No, I completely agree with you.
00:31:24.400 Now, what's next for you guys?
00:31:26.500 I know that you will have to deal with some of the financial issues of getting people there and getting people back and reimbursing out-of-pocket costs.
00:31:36.240 But what comes next for the United We Roll Convoy?
00:31:40.420 I know Glenn is a real guy with a real job and a local municipal politician.
00:31:46.100 So he's bitten off a lot.
00:31:47.860 But what happens next?
00:31:49.200 I don't think this is over.
00:31:50.860 You know what?
00:31:51.540 I would agree with you.
00:31:52.540 And the reason why we know it's not over is that, I mean, we just headed out this morning and people are messaging us on Facebook.
00:31:59.840 Can you stop here?
00:32:00.840 Can you please stop here?
00:32:02.380 I mean, the support is still there.
00:32:04.000 And we weren't sure.
00:32:04.840 I mean, nobody's ever done what we've done.
00:32:07.880 So how could we know what to expect?
00:32:10.620 But I've got to say the love is so overwhelming that we feel like we can't stop.
00:32:14.800 You're exactly right.
00:32:16.100 So I don't know.
00:32:16.740 Maybe it turns into a nonprofit and we do more work for the people.
00:32:20.820 I'm not sure what it looks like.
00:32:22.380 And honestly, I don't want to be painted into a box.
00:32:25.060 I just want to say we're incredibly proud and grateful for the love and support that we've received.
00:32:30.700 And we're not going to come home and park it and walk away.
00:32:33.620 We're going to find a way to empower people to have voices and to help our communities.
00:32:39.420 Because it seems like the government's not interested in either.
00:32:43.460 Well, Haley, I want to thank you so much for being such a strong advocate for, I suppose it's your industry and mine, too.
00:32:50.160 We're both oil field wives.
00:32:51.360 But, you know, for the resource sector and for the prosperity of all Canadians.
00:32:58.180 And, you know, I watched all of Kian's reports on that.
00:33:03.160 Fantastic.
00:33:04.540 Oh, that kid worked night and day.
00:33:06.380 And I felt amazing.
00:33:07.840 I felt sorry because he was sitting on a bus.
00:33:11.220 You guys were driving.
00:33:12.220 And I felt tired for him.
00:33:15.280 So I know that you guys, you know, that is a long day behind the wheel of a vehicle.
00:33:19.600 But if people want to see what you guys really pulled off, logistically speaking, you can see all our viewers at home can see all of Kian's reports at rebelconvoy.com.
00:33:31.300 But, Haley, I know I'm going to see you around Alberta.
00:33:35.840 I think you and I are going to an event probably next week regarding the Bighorn.
00:33:43.220 So that I can see you and really thank you in person.
00:33:46.760 I'd like to thank you, too, Sheila.
00:33:48.440 And I've got to say, it's strong, courageous women like yourself and myself that are going to make a difference.
00:33:54.760 And I couldn't be more proud to be on your show.
00:33:57.880 I completely endorse what you're doing.
00:33:59.960 You're speaking the truth.
00:34:01.740 And I can personally tell you, it takes a lot of bravery for a woman to do that.
00:34:07.120 And I have a lot of respect for you.
00:34:08.900 So thank you for giving me an opportunity to champion our resources and to stand up for Canadian voices.
00:34:16.100 Haley, if you keep talking like that, you're going to be back on here a lot more.
00:34:21.120 You're awesome, girl.
00:34:22.960 Okay, Haley, I want to wish you and Glenn and everybody on the convoy a safe trip home.
00:34:28.880 And everybody at home, stay tuned.
00:34:31.260 More up next after the break.
00:34:33.440 Thank you, Sheila.
00:34:34.240 We try to save this last portion of the show for you at home.
00:34:48.440 We like to take your comments, your suggestions, and sometimes even your hate mail, although I have none today.
00:34:55.720 Earlier this afternoon, David Menzies and I filled in for Ezra on his weekly YouTube live chat show called Battleground.
00:35:02.860 There we talk about, well, really anything you want us to talk about.
00:35:06.160 It's unscripted, it's fun, you see us in a way you won't normally see us, and you get to control the agenda.
00:35:12.260 Now, on the show today, we talked about ISIS brides who now want to be repatriated to their countries of origin.
00:35:19.880 I maybe, maybe impolitely said that they can rot wherever they are because they were complicit at best or participatory at worst in a genocide.
00:35:29.440 David and I both pointed out how ridiculous it is for the progressive left to now look at these women who went to Syria with their eyes wide open as sad little victims now.
00:35:41.160 Ron Joseph writes,
00:35:43.180 Sheila, it was refreshing to get a normal woman's view on returning ISIS brides.
00:35:49.580 Leave them there and their babies too.
00:35:52.380 The other day, I listened to a UK show where the majority agreed with you and David, but around four low IQ women called everyone a lynch mob and said the ISIS women were only naive for going to Syria.
00:36:07.600 Well, thank you, Ron.
00:36:09.020 I would like to see these women's innocent babies rescued from their horrific mothers, but these women went to Syria after the atrocities happening there were very well documented.
00:36:20.820 In fact, I would suggest that they went there specifically because the atrocities were happening, and only now they want to come home because the caliphate has fallen around them, and it's no fun anymore.
00:36:34.260 You know, in the past three weeks, three of our rebel colleagues have been attacked while they were working.
00:36:40.180 My dear friend and colleague, David Menzies, and my beloved videographer, Efron, were attacked by a highly agitated, maniacal Radisson hotel employee in Toronto, and it was all caught on camera.
00:36:56.060 And my hardworking Calgary colleague, Rebel Kian Bexty, had his equipment smashed and was assaulted by Antifa in Ottawa while he was covering the United We Roll convoy for Canada.
00:37:08.780 And it happened right in front of the police.
00:37:14.160 We are fighting back, though.
00:37:15.960 We are suing Radisson Hotels, and we have issued a bounty for the identity of Kian's attacker.
00:37:22.480 Now, to see the full story and to help cover the costs associated with this very expensive undertaking, go to findthethug.com.
00:37:31.240 Now, in response to Rebel Commander Ezra LeVance tweets on the subject, Rand Steve writes,
00:37:38.360 These lunatics have been emboldened by the arrogant self-righteousness of the left, who paint conservatives as Nazis.
00:37:48.200 Adding to the insanity is Canada's top civil servant today suggesting that political assassination might be on the horizon for Canada.
00:37:58.180 Incredible.
00:37:58.860 Well, Rand, you make a very salient point there.
00:38:04.040 The punch Nazis crowd gets the message loud and clear when the bar is moved for them.
00:38:11.760 When establishment elites like Gerald Butz are calling anybody to the right of Hugo Chavez, a far-right Nazi,
00:38:19.540 that gives people like Antifa permission to attack not just us, but anybody who shares an opinion they might disagree with.
00:38:29.340 And if Canada's top civil servant is worried about political violence, I think he's looking in the wrong direction.
00:38:36.820 Well, everybody, that's the show for tonight.
00:38:40.100 Thank you for bearing with me as I fill in for the big boss while he's away in the UK supporting Tommy Robinson.
00:38:45.940 Thank you to everybody in the office for working so very hard to put the show together tonight.
00:38:51.200 Ezra's back again on Monday.
00:38:53.600 And remember, don't let the government tell you that you've had too much to think.
