00:00:00.000 Joe Biden jumps into the race, House Democrats seek more investigations, and the 2020 Democratic candidates desperately seek attention.
00:00:06.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.
00:00:07.000 This is The Ben Shapiro Show.
00:00:13.000 Well, this is my last podcast of the week, so we better make it a good one.
00:00:17.000 And today is the day.
00:00:18.000 Joe Biden officially announcing his jump into the race.
00:00:20.000 We'll get to his entire announcement.
00:00:22.000 We'll analyze it, break it down, discuss where I think he falls in the vast pantheon of Democratic candidates.
00:00:27.000 But first, in 2008, the U.S.
00:00:29.000 national debt was $10 trillion.
00:00:31.000 Today, the debt is nearly $22 trillion.
00:00:33.000 It is rising like a hockey stick.
00:00:34.000 If you don't think that we are sitting on a house of cards, you're living with your head in the sand.
00:00:38.000 But since you're listening to my podcast, you are smarter than the average bear.
00:00:41.000 So what exactly is your plan?
00:00:43.000 Can you afford another hit to your retirement like the last downturn when the S&P dropped 50%?
00:00:46.000 You know, it is worthwhile diversifying your portfolio no matter how you do it.
00:00:50.000 And one of the things you should diversify into is precious metals.
00:00:53.000 Hedging against inflation and against uncertainty and instability with precious metals, it's a pretty good idea.
00:00:57.000 Gold is a safe haven against uncertainty.
00:00:59.000 My savings plan is diversified and yours should be as well.
00:01:02.000 My company I trust with precious metal purchases is Birch Gold Group.
00:01:05.000 Right now, thanks to a little-known IRS tax law, you can even move your IRA or eligible 401k into an IRA backed by physical gold and silver, which is perfect for people who want to protect their hard-earned retirement savings from any future geopolitical uncertainty.
00:01:17.000 Look back historically.
00:01:18.000 When the bottom falls out of everything else, gold does tend to safeguard savings.
00:01:22.000 Birch Gold Group has thousands of satisfied customers, countless five-star reviews, an A-plus rating with the Better Business Bureau.

00:01:31.000 See if diversifying into gold and silver makes sense for you.
00:01:33.000 Text BEN to 474747.
00:01:34.000 Again, text BEN to 474747.
00:01:34.000 BEN to 474747 for the comprehensive 16-page free kit.
00:01:36.000 Check it out.
00:01:36.000 Ben to 474747.

00:01:43.000 Check it out.
00:01:43.000 Ben to 474747 to check out my friends at Birch Gold Group.
00:01:48.000 Alrighty.
00:01:49.000 So Joe Biden is now officially into the race.
00:01:52.000 Now, there was a lot of controversy earlier this week over when he was going to jump in the race, but this had been the plan since late last week.
00:01:57.000 He was going to drop an online video, and then next week, he's officially going to launch his campaign in Pittsburgh at some sort of union hall, which is smart.
00:02:04.000 Now, the Joe Biden campaign is basically apparently going to be run on the basis that Joe Biden is a return to normalcy.
00:02:10.000 I know.
00:02:11.000 It's weird.
00:02:12.000 Joe Biden, an ender.
00:02:13.000 Any definition would not be a return to normalcy.
00:02:15.000 He's a gaffe machine who says dumb things all the time.
00:02:18.000 He's a very controversial figure, historically speaking.
00:02:20.000 He has a long record as a Senator and as Vice President of the United States.
00:02:24.000 And if the focus is on Joe Biden, he doesn't look nearly as good as when the focus is not on Joe Biden.
00:02:29.000 And so Joe Biden is gonna run a campaign that looks kind of like Hillary Clinton's campaign in 2016.
00:02:34.000 Namely, he's gonna put all the focus on Donald Trump.
00:02:36.000 The entire focus is going to be on Donald Trump.
00:02:38.000 Now, it didn't work for Hillary.
00:02:40.000 The reason that it didn't work for Hillary Clinton is because Hillary herself was a widely hated figure.
00:02:45.000 She was much more hated than Joe Biden ever has been, mainly because Joe Biden has been a political afterthought for most of his career.
00:02:51.000 Even when he was vice president, Joe Biden was never considered a political force.
00:02:55.000 He was considered a career political guy who had failed a couple of times at running for president, completely blew up in 2008 on platform.
00:03:02.000 So, you know, the idea that Joe Biden is as threatening as Hillary Clinton is simply not true.
00:03:07.000 So the question is, can Hillary Clinton's campaign win without Hillary Clinton?
00:03:11.000 That's really the question.
00:03:12.000 And after several years of President Trump being president, is the American public finally going to engage in a referendum on Trump?
00:03:20.000 Or will this become a referendum on Joe Biden?
00:03:22.000 Now, as I've said for a long time about this election cycle, if this is a referendum on Democrats, Democrats lose.
00:03:28.000 If this is a referendum on President Trump, he is not a popular president.
00:03:31.000 He is in bad shape if it's a referendum on President Trump.
00:03:34.000 Joe Biden, the thinking seems to be.
00:03:36.000 We'll be what would create a referendum on President Trump simply because most Americans are kind of comfortable with the old quirky guy who is VP under Barack Obama by polling data.
00:03:46.000 Anyway.
00:03:47.000 Now there's a couple of problems with this.
00:03:49.000 One is that Joe Biden is a human with a record.
00:03:52.000 That Joe Biden actually has a pretty long record of his own.
00:03:54.000 We'll get into that in just one second.
00:03:56.000 The other thing is that people seem to have forgotten that Barack Obama was ever president.
00:04:01.000 I know, it feels like it's been 35 years since Barack Obama was president, but it really, in reality, has only been a couple of years since Barack Obama was president.
00:04:08.000 And Joe Biden was there for all of it.
00:04:10.000 And so, as we'll see, I think there are a couple of fruitful lines of counterattack that President Trump could use against Joe Biden.
00:04:17.000 Suffice it to say that in the early polling, the first polling, Joe Biden against Donald Trump, Joe Biden has a significant edge on Donald Trump.
00:04:24.000 According to Morning Consult this morning, as Biden prepares to enter the race, a Morning Consult political poll conducted April 19th through 21st among 2,000 registered voters found Biden leading the president by 8 percentage points in a hypothetical matchup, 42% to 34%.
00:04:40.000 Which leaves a bunch of voters on the table.
00:04:43.000 You may be saying to yourself, wait a second, 42 and 34, that is only 76%.
00:04:46.000 Where are the other 24% of voters?
00:04:46.000 And the answer is, they haven't decided yet.
00:04:52.000 Which is not great news for President Trump, frankly.
00:04:55.000 Because the fact that there were a lot of undecideds going into the 2016 election was good news for President Trump because, again, the focus was on Hillary Clinton.
00:05:02.000 The fact that President Trump is the incumbent president and he is riding at 34% in polls against Joe Biden is not good news for the president.
00:05:10.000 Not gonna sugarcoat that.
00:05:12.000 Biden has a significant edge over Trump among women, 17 points.
00:05:15.000 Millennials, 22 points.
00:05:17.000 And independents, 10 points.
00:05:18.000 That last one is the one that matters.
00:05:20.000 Of course, there's going to be a massive gender gap for President Trump.
00:05:23.000 There always has been.
00:05:24.000 Millennials do despise President Trump by polling data.
00:05:28.000 It was one of my great fears when Trump was elected is that he was going to poison the well with millennials.
00:05:31.000 Among independents, that's really where the question lies.
00:05:35.000 And independents, if this were Bernie versus Trump, it would look a lot closer.
00:05:38.000 Because independents would look at Bernie and they'd say, okay, well, as much as Bernie wants this to be a referendum on Trump, Bernie is a human with views, and those views are radical.
00:05:48.000 Joe Biden is sort of seen as a wet dishrag, and so if it's a wet dishrag versus Trump, that doesn't favor Trump, actually.
00:05:54.000 Trump garnering roughly one-third of the vote in the early head-to-head test pales in comparison to the last incumbent president.
00:05:59.000 At this point in 2012, Barack Obama led Mitt Romney by several points.
00:06:03.000 He was pulling consistently in the mid to high 40s, even after he got blown up in the 2010 election wave.
00:06:11.000 Biden has also held a consistent lead in Morning Consult weekly tracking among likely Democratic primary voters.
00:06:16.000 3 in 10 say that Biden is their top pick, followed by 24% for Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
00:06:21.000 Now, I've been saying for a while, I think that Joe Biden's best day is his first day.
00:06:24.000 And so this is his best day.
00:06:25.000 Congratulations, Joe Biden.
00:06:27.000 This right here is your best day.
00:06:29.000 The reason it is his best day is because nobody is looking at his record today.
00:06:33.000 Nobody is looking back at all the stupid things that he has said.
00:06:35.000 He has not been on the campaign trail for even a moment yet.
00:06:37.000 And that means that the only message we have from Joe Biden at this point is his video message.
00:06:42.000 So let's jump into Joe Biden's video message.
00:06:44.000 So he releases a three minute video.
00:06:46.000 We're going to analyze it in full.
00:06:48.000 And then we're going to talk about how exactly all of this plays into the 2020 field.
00:06:53.000 So Joe Biden's campaign message is him talking into camera juxtaposed with footage of Charlottesville.
00:06:58.000 Now you knew the Democrats were going to use Charlottesville to its fullest effect.
00:07:01.000 Of course they were.
00:07:02.000 It was Trump's lowest moment of his presidency.
00:07:05.000 Now I know, listen, I know there are a lot of people who are trying on the right to engage in what I consider to be revisionist history about what President Trump said about Charlottesville.
00:07:12.000 He did not say there were good Nazis, but what he did say is that there were good people on both sides of the marches in Charlottesville.
00:07:18.000 This was simply not true.
00:07:20.000 The people who are marching in Charlottesville around the statue, it was not a bunch of nice people who showed up to march with Richard Spencer.
00:07:26.000 This thing was identified as a unite the right rally that was led by alt-right white supremacists.
00:07:32.000 And when President Trump said this, it was a huge mistake.
00:07:35.000 He knew it at the time, he apologized for it, then he moved back in the other direction.
00:07:38.000 I'm gonna play you the full clip of President Trump talking about it.
00:07:40.000 People are trying to say he meant there were people on both, good people on both sides of the Confederate statue debate.
00:07:45.000 If that's what he had said, I would have not only had no problem with it, I would have agreed with it.
00:07:50.000 But that's not really what he said.
00:07:52.000 What he said is there were good people marching who's specifically referring to that Friday night.
00:07:56.000 So here's what the president said. - You had a group on one side and you had a group on the other and they came at each other with clubs and it was vicious and it was horrible and it was a horrible thing to watch.
00:08:06.000 I think there's blame on both sides and I have no doubt about it and you don't have any doubt about it either.
00:08:11.000 And you had some very bad people in that group but you also had people that were very fine people on both sides.
00:08:20.000 You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of to them a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name.
00:08:31.000 OK, so that last OK, so that last comment, people are now taking that out of context on the right and suggesting that Trump was not talking about the protesters who showed up.
00:08:39.000 He was talking about writ large Confederate statues.
00:08:42.000 Okay, that is not accurate.
00:08:44.000 Okay, that is just not what he said at the time.
00:08:48.000 And so, I am loathe to rewrite history in favor of President Trump, specifically because that, again, I want to read you the entire transcript.
00:08:58.000 Okay, here is what he said.
00:08:59.000 This is the entire transcript.
00:09:01.000 I think there is blame on both sides.
00:09:02.000 You look at both sides.
00:09:03.000 I think there is blame objectively on both sides.
00:09:06.000 I have no doubt about it.
00:09:07.000 You don't have any doubt about it.
00:09:08.000 If you reported it accurately, you would say the neo-Nazis started this thing.
00:09:11.000 They showed up in Charlottesville.
00:09:12.000 Excuse me.
00:09:12.000 They didn't put themselves down as neo-Nazis.
00:09:14.000 You had some very bad people in that group.
00:09:16.000 You also had some very fine people on both sides.
00:09:18.000 You had people in that group.
00:09:19.000 Excuse me.
00:09:19.000 Excuse me.
00:09:20.000 I saw the same pictures as you did.
00:09:21.000 You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name.
00:09:29.000 And then he moved on to his discussion of generalized statutes and the taking down of those statutes, an issue about which I largely agree with President Trump.
00:09:37.000 But I don't, I'm not going to buy the rewriting of history just for partisan purposes.
00:09:41.000 So that is not what President Trump said when he says find people on both sides.
00:09:45.000 He was not specifically talking about the generalized debate, a proposition with which I agree.
00:09:49.000 He was talking, I mean, he referred to the pictures of the violence.
00:09:52.000 He talked specifically about the night that he was talking about.
00:09:55.000 I have yet to identify the nice people who are marching with Richard Spencer that night.
00:09:58.000 Okay, end of story.
00:09:59.000 So, that is a fair hit.
00:10:01.000 It is also fair to note that the Democrats have then taken this and blown this up into, President Trump has widespread sympathies for the alt-right.
00:10:08.000 That is not true.
00:10:09.000 He is disassociated from the alt-right, forcibly so.
00:10:12.000 And he has fired everyone in the White House who is even remotely associated with the alt-right.
00:10:16.000 I'm looking at you, Steve Bannon.
00:10:18.000 The President of the United States has been more strongly against anti-Semitism than any president in recent memory.
00:10:25.000 He's been more against anti-Israel sentiment than any president in recent memory.
00:10:29.000 And the Democrats, as we'll see, who are calling upon President Trump and trying to label him an anti-Semite, these are the same people who are defending Ilhan Omar, an open anti-Semite, at the same time.
00:10:38.000 So, I am not somebody who takes winking and nodding at the alt-right with a grain of salt.
00:10:42.000 I think that was very bad.
00:10:43.000 I think President Trump did that early in his presidency.
00:10:45.000 I think he did it during his campaign.
00:10:46.000 But that is not what he is right now.
00:10:48.000 Now, with that said, is it a smart tactic for Democrats to use Charlottesville against the president?
00:10:52.000 Of course.
00:10:53.000 It forces him onto the defensive.
00:10:55.000 Now we're going to get Republicans rehashing those comments for the next week.
00:10:59.000 That's really not what they should be doing.
00:11:01.000 So we're going to play Joe Biden's ad in just one second.
00:11:03.000 We'll discuss the ad and then we'll discuss how President Trump really should respond to Joe Biden as Biden jumps into the campaign.

00:12:16.000 Okay, so, finally, at long last, President... President... Okay, so, Vice President Joe Biden jumping into the race.
00:12:22.000 His ad, as I say, is focused on Charlottesville.
00:12:24.000 Here's what it sounds like.
00:12:27.000 Charlottesville, Virginia is home to the author of one of the great documents in human history.
00:12:32.000 We know it by heart.
00:12:34.000 We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights.
00:12:43.000 We've heard it so often it's almost a cliché, but it's who we are.
00:12:47.000 We haven't always lived up to these ideals.
00:12:50.000 Jefferson himself didn't, but we have never before walked away from them.
00:12:55.000 Okay, so very important thing that Joe Biden is doing right here, strategically speaking, and it is separating him off from his own party.
00:13:01.000 I have been saying in my book tour, I've been saying for a long time, there's a difference in vision in this country.
00:13:07.000 One vision of America is that America has these wonderful founding ideals, and we have not always lived up to them.
00:13:12.000 And the other vision of America is that America is founded on terrible, horrible, no good, very bad ideals, and that we have lived up to them, and we have to abandon those ideals.
00:13:19.000 Joe Biden is running squarely in that first lane.
00:13:22.000 Now, there may be a silent majority of Democrats who still agree with that first lane, which would be great.
00:13:26.000 I mean, those are the same people who I am trying to appeal to, too, because I think that that's an important message, that America is inherently great.
00:13:32.000 But what Joe Biden is actually saying is, make America great again.
00:13:35.000 He's saying, make America great again, because America was already great.
00:13:39.000 America had great ideals.
00:13:41.000 This is a conservative message that he's pushing out there right now.
00:13:45.000 How is that going to play in an intersectional primary where every other candidate in the Democratic Party is complaining that America is inherently rooted in evil, in racism, sexism, bigotry, homophobia?
00:13:55.000 How is that going to play?
00:13:57.000 Joe Biden is running squarely in the moderate lane right now.
00:13:59.000 But remember, there's only the first 30 seconds of his candidacy.
00:14:02.000 So what happens when he comes under attack?
00:14:04.000 Does he abandon all of that?
00:14:06.000 Remember, this is smart, what Joe Biden is doing here.
00:14:08.000 He's running the Barack Obama 2008 campaign, not the Barack Obama 2012 campaign.
00:14:12.000 Is that going to play in the Democratic Party of Bernie Sanders and Kamala Harris and Ilhan Omar?
00:14:17.000 I have my doubts.
00:14:18.000 Joe Biden continues.
00:14:20.000 Charlottesville is also home to a defining moment for this nation in the last few years.
00:14:25.000 It was there in August of 2017 we saw Klansmen and white supremacists and neo-Nazis come out in the open. - Their crazed faces, illuminated by torches, veins bulging and bearing the fangs of racism, chanting the same anti-Semitic bile heard across Europe in the 30s.
00:14:53.000 And they were met by a courageous group of Americans.
00:14:57.000 And a violent clash ensued.
00:15:01.000 And a brave young woman lost her life.
00:15:03.000 And that's when we heard the words of the President of the United States that stunned the world and shocked the conscience of this nation.
00:15:12.000 He said there were, quote, some very fine people on both sides.
00:15:16.000 Okay, so this is where Joe Biden is making his pitch, right?
00:15:19.000 That Donald Trump has undermined the spirit of America with Charlottesville.
00:15:23.000 He is taking for granted a couple of things.
00:15:26.000 And I think those things cannot be taken for granted.
00:15:27.000 In a second, I'm going to explain what he's taking for granted and why I think that he's overstating his case.
00:15:32.000 Okay, so what he is saying from the very beginning, right, is he makes that conservative pitch.
00:15:37.000 That conservative pitch is that America is founded on these great ideals, we haven't always lived up to them, and then Charlottesville is a betrayal of those ideals.
00:15:44.000 Okay, agree with that.
00:15:45.000 He's taking a couple things for granted.
00:15:46.000 Thing number one that he is taking for granted.
00:15:49.000 The idea that Charlottesville is indicative of a broad, widespread mentality among Americans.
00:15:54.000 I do not think that is true.
00:15:55.000 I do not think most Americans think that is true.
00:15:57.000 He is in danger of stepping into the same minefield that Hillary Clinton stepped into when she suggested that all supporters of Donald Trump were effectively white supremacists and deplorables.
00:16:06.000 Remember that she called everybody deplorables who supported Donald Trump in the last election cycle.
00:16:10.000 This is a huge mistake because the vast majority of people who support Donald Trump Do not do so because of Charlottesville.
00:16:17.000 They do not do so because they think that Donald Trump is in favor of white supremacy.
00:16:21.000 So Joe Biden is in serious danger of falling into that trap.
00:16:24.000 Problem number two, Joe Biden happens to have picked as his lead indicator of Trump's evil this March, which was replete with anti-Semitism.
00:16:33.000 One problem.
00:16:34.000 The Democratic Party is steeped in anti-Semitism at the moment.
00:16:37.000 The first time Joe Biden mentions this, don't you think that President Trump is going to say to him, okay, Joe, what do you have to say about Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib?
00:16:45.000 Anything?
00:16:45.000 Like any words on Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib?
00:16:48.000 I'm the most pro-Israel president in American history.
00:16:51.000 I have Jewish grandchildren.
00:16:52.000 Do you really believe that I'm an anti-Semite?
00:16:54.000 You've known me my entire life.
00:16:55.000 Do you believe I'm an anti-Semite?
00:16:57.000 And if you're saying I'm soft on anti-Semitism, let me ask you a question, Vice President.
00:17:02.000 Why is it that you served under an administration that endorsed the Iran deal, and lied about the American public in order to do so?
00:17:08.000 Why did you work for an administration that was so wildly anti-Israel, their defense department was instructed not to provide weaponry to Israel in the middle of the Gaza war?
00:17:15.000 Why do you side with a Democratic Party that has made excuses for Ilhan Omar, a raging and open anti-Semite, and Rashida Tlaib, a raging and open anti-Semite?
00:17:23.000 You got any words on that whatsoever?
00:17:26.000 Trump's got some pretty good comebacks here, and Joe Biden is opening himself up wide to them.
00:17:30.000 Now, again, he is hoping that his focus on Trump means that Trump becomes the subject of the public's referendum, but Joe Biden is very vulnerable in these areas as well, and Trump has not yet begun to fight.
00:17:42.000 Let's continue with the ad.
00:17:44.000 Fine people on both sides?
00:17:46.000 With those words, the President of the United States assigned a moral equivalence between those spreading hate And those with the courage to stand against it.
00:17:58.000 And in that moment...
00:18:00.000 I knew the threat to this nation was unlike any I had ever seen in my lifetime.
00:18:05.000 Unlike any he has seen in his lifetime?
00:18:07.000 Duke lived through the 60s.
00:18:08.000 In the 1970s, he came out in favor of segregation to a certain extent.
00:18:13.000 He suggested that forced busing, which was a bad idea, was a bad idea not because it was ineffective and not because it forced children to shuttle hours on end on buses, but it was bad because it might undermine black segregationist pride.
00:18:25.000 This is something that Joe Biden actually said during the 1970s, according to the Washington Examiner.
00:18:30.000 Here's a quote from 1975.
00:18:31.000 He said that the concept of busing, that we are going to integrate people so that they all have the same access and learn to grow up with one another and all the rest, is a rejection of the whole movement of black pride, said Biden.
00:18:44.000 Desegregation was a rejection of the entire black awareness concept, where black is beautiful, black culture should be studied, and the cultural awareness of the importance of their own identity, their own individuality.
00:18:55.000 Is that something Joe Biden was saying way back when?
00:18:57.000 So this is the worst time he's ever seen for American racism?
00:18:59.000 Truly?
00:19:00.000 All Donald Trump has to do to respond to this is show a video of Ferguson and Baltimore.
00:19:06.000 Right now, this is the worst?
00:19:07.000 This is where you said, I have to draw the line?
00:19:10.000 I mean, let's not be too naive about this.
00:19:14.000 Basically, Joe Biden decided he was going to run for president the moment that Donald Trump was elected, and he was the next guy on the shortlist for Democrats.
00:19:20.000 That's all.
00:19:21.000 He seriously considered running in 2016, and only when he didn't receive Barack Obama's endorsement did he decide not to.
00:19:27.000 Hilariously enough, by the way, A lot of people have been wondering, is Barack Obama going to endorse Biden?
00:19:32.000 The answer apparently is no for the moment.
00:19:34.000 Apparently Biden's people are out there, I kid you not, walking around and saying with a straight face that Joe Biden was offered Obama's endorsement and rejected it because he wants to see how his candidacy plays on his own.
00:19:47.000 Sure.
00:19:48.000 And I turned down an NBA contract yesterday because I don't want to humiliate all the other players.
00:19:52.000 I want to show my magic b-ball skills just on a court by myself.
00:19:56.000 I want to show you how I can 360 windmill dunk without, you know, having to humiliate the seven-footers in the NBA.
00:20:01.000 Other than that, I totally would have taken the NBA contract.
00:20:04.000 Sure, Joe Biden.
00:20:06.000 Sure.
00:20:07.000 Okay, Joe Biden continues.
00:20:08.000 I wrote at the time that we're in the battle for the soul of this nation.
00:20:14.000 Well, that's even more true today.
00:20:15.000 We are in the battle for the soul of this nation.
00:20:19.000 I believe history will look back on four years of this president and all he embraces as an aberrant moment in time.
00:20:27.000 But if we give Donald Trump eight years in the White House, he will forever and fundamentally alter the character of this nation, who we are.
00:20:37.000 And I cannot stand by and watch that happen.
00:20:39.000 So the character of the nation.
00:20:40.000 So this is, in fact, the best attack on President Trump, because the economy is good.
00:20:44.000 His policy has been good.
00:20:46.000 The best attack on him was always going to be a character attack, and Biden is not making the character attack about the fact that the dude slept around with porn stars or something.
00:20:53.000 He's making the character attack about he's changed who we are.
00:20:56.000 This is his entire campaign.
00:20:57.000 Now, there are some people who find this inspirational, and they feel like, okay, this is the return to normalcy.
00:21:02.000 Trump is an aberration, something weird.
00:21:05.000 On the other hand, Barack Obama used to use the who we are nonsense all the time.
00:21:11.000 He would suggest who we are is not people who get upset about the Ferguson riots.
00:21:16.000 Who we are are people who wonder about the root causes of the Ferguson riots.
00:21:20.000 He would constantly be using the phrase who we are to describe basically his own political viewpoint.
00:21:25.000 It gets very tiresome very quickly.
00:21:27.000 Right now, as I say, the shine is still on Joe Biden.
00:21:31.000 Joe Biden is still a guy with gravitas, served as vice president for eight years.
00:21:36.000 By most accounts, people who know him is a nice guy.
00:21:39.000 But with all of that said.
00:21:42.000 His campaign is not going to be this for the next two years.
00:21:44.000 His campaign for the next two years can't be, well, we're going to go back to a better time in America when I was VP.
00:21:49.000 Because was it a better time?
00:21:51.000 Or were we just as divided and the economy was worse?
00:21:54.000 Were we just as divided and you were shipping billions of dollars in cash to the Iranians?
00:21:59.000 There's a lot of vulnerability here.
00:22:01.000 Launch videos always look pretty good.
00:22:02.000 And I will say that Joe Biden is doing something different in his launch video.
00:22:05.000 He's talking about the character of the country, which lends a gravitas and a weight to his video that doesn't exist in, for example, Mayor Pete's video, which is all about, hi, I'm Mayor Pete and I'm from South Bend.
00:22:14.000 You're not getting that from Biden because we all know his record.
00:22:17.000 But I am not sure it's going to play over the course of two years as well as Biden thinks it will.
00:22:21.000 In a second, we'll get to the rest of Biden's campaign launch video and we'll talk about how it plays for the rest of the Democrats.
00:22:27.000 First, you've heard me talk about how Ring is reinventing home security with doorbells, cameras, even an alarm you can install yourself.
00:22:33.000 Now they're reinventing the Neighborhood Watch.
00:22:35.000 They have a new app they created called Neighbors by Ring.
00:22:37.000 You remember the Neighborhood Watch?
00:22:38.000 It's been around for a while.
00:22:39.000 Helps you know when there's crime happening in your area.
00:22:41.000 Well, now Ring has something similar.
00:22:43.000 They've reinvented the Neighborhood Watch with the Neighbors app.
00:22:45.000 It's like the new Neighborhood Watch on your phone.
00:22:47.000 People taking stuff off porches, trying doorknobs late at night, missing dogs.
00:22:51.000 The Neighbors app sends real-time notifications to your phone whenever one of your neighbors posts a heads-up about something that's going on, which helps keep you informed.
00:22:58.000 The Neighbors app by Ring is completely free.
00:22:59.000 Anyone can join, even if they don't own a Ring device.
00:23:02.000 I've downloaded the Neighbors app.
00:23:04.000 I do check it regularly to see what the crime rates are.
00:23:06.000 Are like in my area, more than crime rates, specifically anecdotal things that are happening in my area.
00:23:11.000 I'm shocked by the amount of crime in my area, frankly, because Mayor Garcetti in Los Angeles is terrible at his job.
00:23:16.000 But in any case, you need to go check out the Neighbors app right now.
00:23:20.000 Check out the Neighbors app yourself.
00:23:21.000 The easiest way to get it going is ring.com forward slash Shapiro.
00:23:25.000 That is ring.com forward slash Shapiro.
00:23:28.000 Make your neighborhood safer today with the Neighbors app by Ring.
00:23:30.000 That's ring.com forward slash Shapiro.
00:23:34.000 It's a great app.
00:23:34.000 Ring has lots of great products.
00:23:35.000 Go check them out right now.
00:23:36.000 Ring.com forward slash Shapiro.
00:23:39.000 Alrighty.
00:23:39.000 So we're continuing with Joe Biden's ad.
00:23:41.000 So the case that he has made thus far, America was already great.
00:23:46.000 A very conservative case.
00:23:48.000 Charlottesville was a betrayal of that.
00:23:49.000 Donald Trump is Charlottesville.
00:23:51.000 That connection is specious.
00:23:52.000 And then finally, he gets to, and that's why I jumped in the race, because I felt like this was a crisis unlike any other, which of course is what every politician always says.
00:23:59.000 It's the most important election of our lifetime.
00:24:02.000 I needed to jump in because we were at crisis point.
00:24:04.000 We're not at crisis point.
00:24:05.000 This isn't the most important election of our lifetime, other than it's an election that is happening now, and you can't vote in the one from 2016.
00:24:11.000 In any case, here is Joe Biden continuing.
00:24:14.000 The core values of this nation are standing in the world.
00:24:18.000 Our very democracy.
00:24:20.000 Everything that has made America, America is at stake.
00:24:25.000 That's why today I'm announcing my candidacy for President of the United States.
00:24:30.000 Folks, America's an idea.
00:24:32.000 An idea that's stronger than any army, bigger than any ocean, more powerful than any dictator or tyrant.
00:24:39.000 It gives hope to the most desperate people on earth.
00:24:41.000 It guarantees that everyone is treated with dignity and gives hate no safe harbor.
00:24:48.000 It instills in every person in this country the belief that no matter where you start in life, there's nothing you can't achieve if you work at it.
00:24:57.000 That's what we believe.
00:24:59.000 And above all else, that's what's at stake in this election.
00:25:02.000 We can't forget what happened in Charlottesville.
00:25:06.000 Even more important, we have to remember who we are.
00:25:09.000 This is America.
00:25:13.000 Okay, and that's his entire ad.
00:25:14.000 Now, here's the thing about that ad.
00:25:16.000 There's not a word in that ad, just reading it.
00:25:19.000 There's not a word in that ad, aside from his characterization of, this is the greatest crisis we've ever faced, and Charlottesville is America, and all this kind of stuff.
00:25:25.000 And Trump is fundamentally, all that stuff is wrong, but the main message of the ad, I agree with all of that.
00:25:31.000 You probably agree with all of that.
00:25:33.000 That's why I say Biden is running in the moderate lane, even though his historic record is not particularly moderate.
00:25:38.000 He is running in that lane, right?
00:25:39.000 That last, Perfect example.
00:25:41.000 So Joe Biden, when he talks about America as an idea and all the great things we've done in the past, the stock footage that he uses is stock footage of Marines landing on the beaches during Normandy or at Guadalcanal.
00:25:54.000 And then he juxtaposes that with MLK and the civil rights marchers.
00:25:57.000 Now, there's a thing that all the other Democratic candidates have done in their video that Joe Biden did not do in this video.
00:26:03.000 All the other Democratic candidates then flash to some sort of gay pride parade or something.
00:26:07.000 Then they flash to the rainbow flag on the wall of the White House or something.
00:26:12.000 Joe Biden specifically does not do that.
00:26:15.000 That's a choice.
00:26:16.000 I promise you, somebody in his campaign said to him, Joe, we don't want that in there.
00:26:20.000 Why?
00:26:20.000 Because you used to oppose gay marriage.
00:26:23.000 We don't want that in there.
00:26:23.000 Why?
00:26:24.000 Because you are trying to appeal to blue-collar voters in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan, not to Upper East Side liberals in New York and Washington, D.C.
00:26:32.000 and Los Angeles.
00:26:34.000 I promise you that's something that happened.
00:26:35.000 So Joe Biden is running that campaign.
00:26:37.000 Now, how is that campaign going to play with the progressive wing of the Democratic Party?
00:26:42.000 Biden is hoping that the progressives savage each other, that there are 10 people in that lane, he's the only person in the moderate lane, and he walks away with the nomination.
00:26:48.000 That's not a terrible strategy.
00:26:50.000 It really is not.
00:26:51.000 But all guns are now going to train themselves on Joe Biden.
00:26:54.000 Joe Biden is everything that the radical base of the Democratic Party despises.
00:27:00.000 Not just dislikes, despises.
00:27:02.000 So for example, the Justice Democrats came out today and they put out a tweet saying they're not going to endorse Joe Biden.
00:27:10.000 They said, quote, Joe Biden is out of touch with the center of energy in the Democratic Party today.
00:27:14.000 Now notice that language, the center of energy.
00:27:16.000 And I think that's correct.
00:27:17.000 The center of energy is not with Joe Biden and his sort of moderate view of America as a fundamentally great place that we have not always lived up to.
00:27:25.000 That's a conservative view.
00:27:26.000 Most people on the left do not believe in this.
00:27:29.000 So they say Democrats future, Medicare for all, Green New Deal, free college, rejecting corporate money, ending mass incarceration and deportation.
00:27:37.000 Right?
00:27:37.000 That is what they say the future is.
00:27:38.000 Joe Biden voted in favor of the Iraq War.
00:27:41.000 He voted for Bankruptcy Reform Act.
00:27:43.000 He voted for mass incarceration.
00:27:44.000 In fact, he helped author it in 1994.
00:27:46.000 He voted against school desegregation and against marriage equality, according to them.
00:27:51.000 Now, He didn't actually vote against school desegregation.
00:27:54.000 He voted against forced busing.
00:27:55.000 That's not the same thing as desegregation.
00:27:57.000 Forced integration and desegregation are not the same thing, legally speaking.
00:28:01.000 But when he says that he voted against marriage equality, that's true.
00:28:05.000 He voted in favor of traditional marriage.
00:28:07.000 He voted in favor of the, I believe in the 1990s, the Defense of Marriage Act.
00:28:12.000 So in any case, the Joe Biden record will be up for debate here among Democrats.
00:28:19.000 Now, here's the thing.
00:28:20.000 If we just went straight to the general election, you'd have to favor Joe Biden.
00:28:23.000 He'd be the odds-on favorite against Donald Trump.
00:28:25.000 In a primary, however, Joe Biden occupies the space that Donald Trump occupied.
00:28:30.000 So in a primary space, Joe Biden basically is Trump.
00:28:35.000 Trump, in the general, is this larger-than-life figure who is the incumbent and the referendum is going to be on him.
00:28:43.000 That's at least the Democratic theory.
00:28:44.000 In the Democratic primaries, Biden is the larger-than-life figure and all of the focus is going to be on him.
00:28:50.000 And the problem for Joe Biden is that he has never withstood focus well.
00:28:53.000 Joe Biden has always failed to withstand the scars of battle.
00:28:58.000 This is why he failed in 1988 and had to drop out over a plagiarism scandal.
00:29:03.000 So Bernie Sanders is going to be the first person to go after Joe Biden, obviously, and Bernie's allies are preparing the fight.
00:29:10.000 According to The Hill, Sanders has been more of a liberal policy visionary, championing policies that were initially regarded by colleagues as fringe ideas.
00:29:17.000 These concepts were later embraced by leading members of the Democratic caucus, such as raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour and providing free college education.
00:29:24.000 Former colleagues described Biden and Sanders as polar opposites in terms of personalities and interacting with fellow senators.
00:29:30.000 Biden, 76, is gregarious and sociable.
00:29:32.000 He was always eager to work a room, Strike up a friendly conversation or reassure a colleague who is feeling down.
00:29:37.000 A retail politician to his core, Biden always wanted to know what was on his fellow senator's mind.
00:29:41.000 Sanders, by contrast, was focused on policy.
00:29:44.000 Often so, wrapped up in his thoughts, he seemed oblivious to his colleagues.
00:29:47.000 He was seen as consumed by ambitious plans to fight wealth inequality and pushed the national debate to the left, but uninterested in the personal lives of fellow senators.
00:29:55.000 Who do you think the base is going to resonate to?
00:29:58.000 If you hate Trump, like despise Trump, if you're a Trump hater, who do you think you're going to go for?
00:30:02.000 Joe Biden, a guy who's kind of amiable, but not necessarily as hard edged.
00:30:08.000 Or Bernie Sanders, who's going to yell and scream and rant and rave about Donald Trump.
00:30:12.000 Or Kamala Harris, who's a prosecutor.
00:30:14.000 Democrats have a lot of choices in these primaries.
00:30:17.000 I'm not sure that Joe Biden stands up to scrutiny.
00:30:20.000 That's a very conservative campaign launch video.
00:30:22.000 And frankly, I'm sort of astonished that's the direction that he went.
00:30:25.000 Especially because he's now going to have to defend his record.
00:30:29.000 Senator Dianne Feinstein has already come out and said that Biden would have handled the Clarence Thomas, Anita Hill hearings differently if he could do it all over again.
00:30:36.000 He's going to spend the first month of his campaign apologizing for his entire record.
00:30:40.000 That's what Joe Biden is going to do.
00:30:41.000 Is that a solid launch strategy?
00:30:44.000 Basically, the only reason he's famous is the reason he's going to be apologizing?
00:30:48.000 I don't see this as working well for Biden.
00:30:51.000 I think he's going to launch.
00:30:52.000 He'll be strong at launch.
00:30:53.000 And then it's all downhill from there.
00:30:56.000 Okay, in just a second, we're gonna get to more on Joe Biden, how the other Democrats are reacting, where things stand right now.
00:31:03.000 But first, It can be a little frustrating, I know, especially if you are in a hurry or you're running late to find yourself at a railway crossing waiting for a train.
00:31:11.000 I know, it takes forever.
00:31:12.000 And it feels like the arms of the railway crossing come down and then you're just sitting there for 35 minutes waiting for the train to pass.
00:31:20.000 If the signals are going and the train is not even there yet, sometimes you might feel a bit tempted to try and sneak across the tracks.
00:31:24.000 Do not do this.
00:31:26.000 Do not do this.
00:31:27.000 Don't try to outrun a train, guys.
00:31:29.000 Trains are going a lot faster than you expect them to be, and they cannot stop.
00:31:32.000 Even if an engineer hits the brakes right away seeing it coming, it can take a train over a mile to stop.
00:31:37.000 By that time, what used to be your car is just a crushed hunk of metal, and what used to be you...
00:31:42.000 is not you anymore.
00:31:43.000 The point is, you don't know how quickly the train is going to arrive.
00:31:46.000 So please, for the love of Pete, sit there and wait.
00:31:49.000 Don't be stupid.
00:31:50.000 The train can't stop even if it sees you, and the results could be your doom.
00:31:54.000 So if the signals are on, the train is on its way.
00:31:57.000 You need to just remember one thing.
00:31:58.000 You need to stop.
00:31:59.000 The train cannot.
00:32:01.000 Okay, I know.
00:32:02.000 It sounds like an obvious message, but it's something that some people are missing.
00:32:05.000 Okay?
00:32:06.000 Just stop.
00:32:07.000 Don't try to outrun a train, guys.
00:32:08.000 Bad, bad idea.
00:32:09.000 You're not Superman.
00:32:10.000 Just stop and wait.
00:32:11.000 Okay, so, in a second, we'll get to the other Democratic candidates, and we'll show how all of the canon are now going to train on Joe Biden.
00:32:20.000 But first, you're gonna have to go and subscribe.

00:33:02.000 And I just hope there are women who can wake up and realize, you know, I'm not enough.
00:33:07.000 I don't have it all in myself to make sure that I'm fulfilled and satisfied.
00:33:11.000 I actually have to give of myself in order to do that.

00:33:33.000 We always appreciate it.
00:33:33.000 We're the largest, fastest growing conservative podcast and radio show in the nation.
00:33:37.000 All righty.
00:33:43.000 So Joe Biden's launch video.
00:33:45.000 It seems like it's being fairly well received by members of the media, but it's very early as of yet.
00:33:51.000 There are already some of the base members of the Democratic Party who are getting upset, not just the Justice Democrats, people like Bakari Sellers.
00:33:58.000 So, Bakari Sellers came out on Twitter, and he immediately started slapping Joe Biden for his criminal justice record.
00:34:07.000 He was the CNN commentator.
00:34:09.000 He says, Joe Biden, you are the author of the 94 crime bill.
00:34:12.000 It's champion.
00:34:13.000 It's number one cheerleader.
00:34:14.000 This bill has led to mass incarceration and specifically targeted black and brown people.
00:34:18.000 What are your plans to unravel the damage you helped to cause?
00:34:21.000 Without Barack Obama endorsing Joe Biden, this will be the lead point of attack for people like Kamala Harris, who is already fundraising over Biden's entry into the race, saying she welcomes him there.
00:34:29.000 It'll be a fun debate.
00:34:30.000 Also, she needs money.
00:34:32.000 The problem for Joe Biden is that if you take away his support in the minority community, he's running behind Bernie Sanders.
00:34:38.000 Joe Biden is earning outside support from the black community right now.
00:34:41.000 In fact, he's earning a plurality of the black vote right now in polling data.
00:34:45.000 If that starts to chip away, and that will be the first area where people seek to attack him, if that starts to bleed away to a combination of Cory Booker and Kamala Harris, both of whom have to train themselves on Joe Biden, it's going to be a problem for Joe Biden.
00:35:00.000 Meanwhile, right now, as I say, right now, Biden is popular.
00:35:03.000 By polling number, women still like Biden.
00:35:06.000 Black folks still like Biden.
00:35:07.000 I wonder if that's the story two months from now.
00:35:11.000 And the real reason, of course, that Joe Biden is doing well is because if you look at Democratic polls, one of the things that you see is that the number one priority is defeating Trump, and they think that he is the most electable.
00:35:20.000 They're trying to forecast his electability versus President Trump.
00:35:25.000 Well, over time, as attacks start to mount up against him, and if Donald Trump starts to hit him, that could change.
00:35:30.000 You can see that Donald Trump is already lowering his boom on Joe Biden.
00:35:34.000 He tweeted out early this morning about Joe Biden.
00:35:37.000 He said, welcome to the race sleepy Joe.
00:35:39.000 Sleepy Joe, I only hope you have the intelligence long in doubt to wage a successful primary campaign.
00:35:46.000 It will be nasty.
00:35:47.000 You'll be dealing with people who truly have some very sick and demented ideas.
00:35:51.000 But if you make it, I will see you at the starting gate.
00:35:55.000 So there's the president welcoming Joe Biden to the race.
00:35:57.000 I have to say, not super happy with Sleepy Joe as a moniker.
00:36:01.000 It really does lack.
00:36:03.000 Like there's some that have really had pizzazz.
00:36:05.000 Like Sloppy Steve was really good about Steve Bannon.
00:36:08.000 And of course, Creepy Joe is right there for the taking.
00:36:11.000 In fact, Creepy Joe is already trending on Twitter, even though Trump didn't use it.
00:36:15.000 They're a bunch of crazy Joe, right?
00:36:17.000 Like there's plenty of Trump's favorite adjectives you could use to describe Joe Biden.
00:36:22.000 I'm not sure why sleepy is the thing, as though it's a contest of energy.
00:36:26.000 Now, I know that Biden is trying to appear sober, but the fact is that for a man his age, dude has pretty good energy levels.
00:36:32.000 So I'm not sure that that's a winning moniker.
00:36:34.000 A better moniker is necessary, Mr. President.
00:36:36.000 So let's go back to the drawing board.
00:36:39.000 Again, the major draw for Biden is that Democrats think he can beat Trump by polling data that obviously appears to be a not implausible case.
00:36:46.000 You're seeing the only other Democrat in the race who realizes this is apparently Pete Buttigieg, that electability matters.
00:36:52.000 So Pete Buttigieg is attacking Bernie Sanders.
00:36:54.000 He says Bernie Sanders can't win, and that's why you shouldn't vote for Bernie Sanders.
00:36:58.000 Now, I think that he is probably right, but I don't think that those votes then turn to Pete Buttigieg.
00:37:03.000 A mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who has fewer constituents than I have family members.
00:37:07.000 In any case, here's Pete Buttigieg suggesting that, so Pete Buttigieg suggested that he doesn't think that Bernie can win a general election, so vote for me.
00:37:15.000 He said, quote, I have a hard time seeing the coalition ultimately coming together there.
00:37:20.000 He said that people are refreshed by the novelty and boldness of Sanders' idea, but they're now less excited.
00:37:25.000 So Buttigieg is trying to go after Bernie and savage his vote.
00:37:28.000 I'm surprised that Buttigieg has not gone after Biden.
00:37:31.000 I think he will.
00:37:32.000 I think he will.
00:37:32.000 And the beneficiary, by the way, will be Bernie Sanders.
00:37:35.000 By polling data, if people don't vote for Biden, who is their second choice?
00:37:39.000 Bernie Sanders.
00:37:41.000 Now, the rest of the Democratic Party is trying desperately to gain attention from a media that is struggling to keep up with the vast number of Democrats who are running.
00:37:50.000 Elizabeth Warren, trying to grab attention, she went to some sort of women in politics event, where she suggested, of course, that black women are dying in childbirth more often because of racism in the medical industry, even though she has suggested no solutions to said racism in the medical industry, and even though the vast majority of female death in childbirth is due to low birth weight or pre-existing health problems.
00:38:09.000 She's immediately going to label the entire health industry racist based on something.
00:38:14.000 Here she is doing that routine in a desperate search for attention.
00:38:17.000 Well, countries around the world have had more and more mothers surviving childbirth.
00:38:23.000 Here in the United States, we're one of only a handful of countries where it's actually gone down.
00:38:28.000 And there is a specific problem, as you rightly identify, for women of color, who are three to four times more likely to die in childbirth.
00:38:40.000 And here's the thing.
00:38:42.000 Even after we do the adjustments for income, for education, this is true across the board.
00:38:51.000 Okay, well that may be true across the board.
00:38:52.000 You know where else it's true?
00:38:53.000 In Europe.
00:38:54.000 So she just contrasted America's birth rates and death rates with European birth rates and death rates.
00:38:58.000 You know what's true?
00:38:59.000 In Europe, black women die at a higher rate in childbirth.
00:39:01.000 Minority women die at a higher rate in childbirth than white women do in Europe as well.
00:39:05.000 So that may suggest that the problem does not lie with American-style racism in particular.
00:39:09.000 But she's trying to make a headline.
00:39:11.000 And hey, More power to her.
00:39:13.000 All the Democrats are trying to make a headline.
00:39:14.000 Beto is trying to make a headline as well.
00:39:16.000 In a second, we're going to get to the rest of the Democrats at the She the People convention.
00:39:20.000 She the People.
00:39:20.000 Okay, anyway, Beto desperately seeking attention.
00:39:24.000 Too bad it's all been stolen by Pete Buttigieg.
00:39:27.000 Here's Beto talking about, we need an equal rights amendment because my hands won't stop moving, brah.
00:39:33.000 A minimum wage is not going to be enough, especially when it comes to women of color.
00:39:39.000 Women alone in this country are paid 80 cents on average what a man is paid for the same job, but African American women Pandering and pandering and lies and pandering.
00:39:49.000 Hispanic women are not making 53 cents on the dollar.
00:39:53.000 Black women are not making, whatever it was, 60 cents on the dollar.
00:39:57.000 woman can be discriminated against on any basis whatsoever.
00:40:00.000 Pandering and pandering and lies and pandering.
00:40:03.000 Hispanic women are not making 53 cents on the dollar.
00:40:06.000 Black women are not making whatever was 60 cents on the dollar.
00:40:09.000 None of this is true.
00:40:10.000 And when you remove all of the confounds, people are basically making what people make.
00:40:15.000 But Beto is pandering too.
00:40:17.000 Kamala Harris is in the pandering business.
00:40:19.000 See, here's the thing about Joe Biden.
00:40:20.000 If he can stick with his original campaign plan, if he can stick with the moderation and the non-pandering, not only do I think that he runs the gamut in the primary, I think he wins the nomination.
00:40:30.000 I think he's a very strong candidate for the presidency.
00:40:33.000 I think that if he campaigns as a moderate and he's able to withstand the pressure, it'll be fine.
00:40:37.000 But I don't know that he can do that.
00:40:38.000 Because he's got the entire Democratic Party, like a pack of hyenas, savaging him from every side, coming up.
00:40:44.000 Just wait for it.
00:40:45.000 By the end of the weekend, this will be the message.
00:40:48.000 Because the Democrats are too busy savaging each other.
00:40:50.000 This is the entertaining part of the primaries for Republicans.
00:40:53.000 Listen to Kamala Harris talking about how we need to let young people who sold weed Off the chain from prison.
00:41:00.000 They shouldn't be in prison anymore.
00:41:01.000 And they should actually be at the front of the line to get jobs in the weed dispensaries.
00:41:05.000 This is such an amazingly stupid case.
00:41:07.000 And Kamala Harris is a former prosecutor running away from her own record.
00:41:10.000 My goodness, these people are bad at their jobs.
00:41:12.000 A lot of the people who historically were arrested for marijuana sales were young men.
00:41:17.000 Young men of color.
00:41:18.000 Now this is one of the fastest growing money-making industries in our country.
00:41:23.000 And the very young men who were trying to make money doing the same thing, but got criminalized and have now been branded felons for life, are excluded from the economic opportunities that are now available because of this new industry.
00:41:39.000 So part of what has to happen is there have to be policies in place that look at the background and actually do the work of saying that some of those young men should be first in line to get the jobs that are available.
00:41:51.000 Okay, and the big cheers that go up from the radical left for this idiotic proposal.
00:41:54.000 Two questions.
00:41:55.000 One, who put those people in prison?
00:41:56.000 Kamala.
00:41:57.000 You're a prosecutor.
00:41:58.000 Who put those people in prison?
00:42:00.000 Two...
00:42:01.000 I don't think the reason that people went into the weed dispensing business when it was illegal in the state of California.
00:42:07.000 I don't think they did that because they were just young entrepreneurs who are looking for a new way to break into a growing business.
00:42:13.000 I think they knew it was an easy way to make money because it turns out that people who commit crimes of one type are very likely to have committed crimes of another type.
00:42:21.000 This is like saying that everybody who ran booze during Prohibition, those would definitely be the best bartenders.
00:42:29.000 Or maybe they were criminals and they were using the facts that booze was illegal as a way to make money.
00:42:35.000 And if they cannot make money at a weed dispensary in the same way they were dealing weed, they will find another way to make money.
00:42:42.000 It's just, it's so silly.
00:42:43.000 But I guess this is the New Democratic Party.
00:42:45.000 Cory Booker doing the pandering routine as well.
00:42:48.000 He says he'll have a female running mate.
00:42:49.000 I always find this highly amusing when men say, I love women so much that I will have a female running mate.
00:42:55.000 I love women so much that I need a woman to be subservient to me on my ticket.
00:43:01.000 I think that women deserve political power so much that I, a man, should have the most political power and a woman can have the warm bucket of spit job.
00:43:08.000 Here's Cory Booker with his crazy eyes making that case.
00:43:14.000 Uh, the question, if you didn't hear it, is will I pledge to have a woman running mate?
00:43:18.000 I will have a woman running mate.
00:43:20.000 To me, it's really clear that we do that.
00:43:22.000 Yay!
00:43:24.000 Okay, fine.
00:43:24.000 So why don't you drop out and endorse Kristen Gillibrand?
00:43:27.000 You think women should have more power?
00:43:28.000 I have a very easy way to make this happen.
00:43:30.000 Just drop out and endorse Kamala Harris.
00:43:33.000 It's pretty amazing.
00:43:34.000 Now, as I mentioned before, Joe Biden is campaigning on the basis that Democrats have the moral high ground in America because of President Trump.
00:43:39.000 Here's Cory Booker blowing up that moral high ground, suggesting that Ilhan Omar is a wonderful, wonderful woman and that all attacks on her are reprehensible.
00:43:48.000 The criticisms of Congresswoman Omar What Donald Trump has been saying about her is reprehensible, it is trafficking in Islamophobia, and it should be condemned by everyone.
00:44:00.000 This kind of selective condemnation should be a chorus of people condemning it.
00:44:05.000 Okay, now do Ilhan Omar's antisemitism.
00:44:08.000 So if you criticize Ilhan Omar, this makes you an Islamophobe.
00:44:11.000 If Ilhan Omar says the Jews are in control of everything, then that is fine.
00:44:17.000 This is the new Democratic Party.
00:44:19.000 This is the new Democratic Party.
00:44:21.000 At least this is what the politicians think the new Democratic Party is.
00:44:23.000 Now maybe Joe Biden runs for that silent majority of Democrats who exist in polls.
00:44:29.000 May not be the primary voters.
00:44:30.000 May not be the people who get out and knock on doors.
00:44:32.000 But maybe waiting in the wings for a quote-unquote moderate Democrat to take the lead.
00:44:37.000 Maybe.
00:44:37.000 And there's a good record of this, by the way.
00:44:39.000 If Joe Biden is willing to bet on this, there's a good record of this in the primaries.
00:44:42.000 In 2000, Al Gore won as the centrist candidate.
00:44:46.000 In 2004, John Kerry was the centrist candidate.
00:44:50.000 In 2008, Barack Obama was a centrist candidate.
00:44:53.000 In 2016, Hillary Clinton was the centrist candidate versus Bernie Sanders.
00:44:57.000 There's room for the centrist candidate, but will it be Joe Biden amidst this bevy of jackals?
00:45:04.000 I have my doubts, especially with a media that is not truly thrilled with the idea of a Joe Biden presidency.
00:45:10.000 Let's be real about the media.
00:45:11.000 They're in it for the excitement.
00:45:13.000 Hey, they're on a cocaine high with Donald Trump.
00:45:15.000 Donald Trump is headlines every day.
00:45:17.000 He's circulation every day.
00:45:18.000 Do you think that the media are really that interested in Sleepy Joe going up against Donald Trump?
00:45:23.000 Or would they prefer Bernie Sanders or Kamala Harris or Pete Buttigieg or somebody new and exciting and fun to go up against Donald Trump?
00:45:31.000 Again, I think that this is, let's give Joe Biden credit where credit is due.
00:45:35.000 This is going to be the best day of his campaign.
00:45:37.000 And then the day will be over and we will all move on with our lives.
00:45:40.000 And Joe Biden will become the lead target of the attacks from all of these people who are so hysterical for attention.
00:45:45.000 They're willing to endorse any proposal.
00:45:46.000 You think they're going to hold back when it comes to Joe Biden?
00:45:49.000 I have my doubts.
00:45:50.000 Okay, time for a thing I like and then some things that I hate.
00:45:54.000 Things that I like today.
00:45:55.000 So Bernie Marcus is the founder of Home Depot.
00:45:57.000 He has a pretty inspiring personal story.
00:45:59.000 Bernie Marcus basically made himself from not much and now runs one of the great corporations in the United States.
00:46:06.000 He cut a video defending capitalism.
00:46:08.000 I know.
00:46:08.000 It's amazing that we now live in this time and place.
00:46:11.000 But Bernie Marcus defending capitalism is now controversial.
00:46:14.000 So here's Bernie Marcus doing just that.
00:46:16.000 The free market system has been the biggest creator of wealth and prosperity the world has ever known, lifting billions of people out of poverty, and far more superior than any government program could ever be.
00:46:29.000 That's why it pains me to see people in this country glorifying socialism Young people especially have been indoctrinated into believing that free enterprise is immoral because it enriches the greedy and depresses the poor.
00:46:44.000 While some may say socialism is well-intentioned, the fact is it robs people of their independence, their dignity, and their finances, leading to government dependence, suppression of ideas, and lower standards of living for those under its thumb.
00:47:01.000 Okay, this is exactly right.
00:47:03.000 Now, it's amazing.
00:47:03.000 Bernie Marcus will be considered a member of the white privileged class.
00:47:07.000 He was born to Russian Jewish immigrant parents in Newark, New Jersey.
00:47:09.000 He grew up in a tenement.
00:47:11.000 He graduated high school in 1947.
00:47:14.000 He actually wanted to become a doctor, but didn't have the money to do it.
00:47:16.000 So instead, he ended up working for his dad as a cabinetmaker.
00:47:20.000 And then he studied at Rutgers for a pharmacy degree.
00:47:23.000 He worked in a drugstore as a pharmacist, and then he started working at a cosmetics company.
00:47:27.000 Eventually, he became the CEO of HandyDan Improvement Centers, which was a LA-based chain of home improvement stores.
00:47:33.000 And then he decided, after he was fired, to open Home Depot.
00:47:36.000 So this is a guy who basically worked his way through the system from nothing, not even being able to afford tuition Okay, that's a pretty great story of capitalism.
00:47:44.000 Capitalism is full of those sorts of wonderful stories.
00:47:47.000 And the fact that the Democrats refuse to embrace those stories is pretty telling and pretty terrible.
00:47:54.000 So, we'll see if Joe Biden has the courage of his convictions to embrace capitalism.
00:47:58.000 We'll find out.
00:47:59.000 Hillary Clinton said that her embrace of capitalism probably cost her the Bernie voters.
00:48:02.000 We'll see if Joe Biden has the same problem.
00:48:04.000 Okay, time for some things that I hate.
00:48:10.000 So, speaking of Hillary Clinton, she just won't leave.
00:48:13.000 If you're a Democrat, you have to be thinking, why?
00:48:15.000 Why are you still here?
00:48:16.000 Why are you hanging around?
00:48:19.000 You were supposed to win.
00:48:19.000 You didn't win.
00:48:20.000 Go away.
00:48:21.000 Now, she has an editorial, an op-ed, in the Washington Post.
00:48:24.000 So, they had Adam Schiff yesterday and Hillary Clinton today.
00:48:27.000 Just stellar work, everybody, at the Washington Post, in which she talks about the Mueller case.
00:48:33.000 She says our election was corrupted, our democracy assaulted, our sovereignty and security violated.
00:48:37.000 This is the definitive conclusion of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report.
00:48:40.000 It documents a serious crime against the American people.
00:48:44.000 The debate about how to respond to Russia's sweeping and systematic attack and how to hold President Trump accountable for obstructing the investigation and possibly breaking the law has been reduced to a false choice.
00:48:53.000 Immediate impeachment or nothing.
00:48:54.000 History suggests there's a better way to think about the choices ahead.
00:48:57.000 This is her trying to defend the fact that she blew the most winnable election in the history of America.
00:49:01.000 And she blew this thing.
00:49:02.000 And that is because she was a terrible candidate who did a terrible job.
00:49:06.000 End of story.
00:49:07.000 I also love the idea that it was Russia's sweeping and systematic attack that led to her loss.
00:49:13.000 Wait, who was president when that was happening?
00:49:15.000 I forget now.
00:49:16.000 Who was the president?
00:49:18.000 Oh yeah, it was Barack Obama.
00:49:19.000 What did he do about it?
00:49:20.000 Did he stop the sweeping, systematic attack on our elections during the campaign cycle?
00:49:25.000 Or did he merely unleash people to investigate Donald Trump in what turned out to be a giant wild goose chase?
00:49:31.000 Yeah, that's what I thought.
00:49:34.000 Hillary says, obviously, this is personal for me.
00:49:36.000 Some may say I'm not the right messenger, but my perspective is not just that of a former candidate and the target of the Russian plot.
00:49:41.000 I'm also a former senator and secretary of state who served during much of Vladimir Putin's assent, sat across the table from him and knows firsthand that he seeks to weaken our country.
00:49:49.000 Weird.
00:49:50.000 Didn't you hand him a reset button and then allow him to invade Crimea?
00:49:53.000 That was weird.
00:49:55.000 I I remember you being there, Hillary Clinton.
00:49:57.000 I remember you and the rest of your Democratic Party mocking Mitt Romney when he said that Vladimir Putin was our number one geopolitical foe.
00:50:04.000 I recall all of that.
00:50:05.000 But it's personal for her now, once she loses.
00:50:08.000 And she goes on like this, complaining about the fact that she lost the election.
00:50:12.000 Oh, it's because of the Russians.
00:50:13.000 Because of the Russians.
00:50:14.000 Again, the Russians did seek to interfere in the election.
00:50:17.000 They interfered in a couple of different ways.
00:50:18.000 The biggest way they interfered was by using the Guccifer 2.0 front in order to hack John Podesta's emails.
00:50:25.000 But that was a bed that Hillary made and then lay in.
00:50:29.000 Hillary was the one who decided that she was going to shield her emails via non-classified servers.
00:50:34.000 That was a Hillary Clinton problem.
00:50:37.000 And as far as the John Podesta emails, yeah, that created some bad headlines for Hillary Clinton.
00:50:40.000 She could have outlasted those if she'd been anything remotely looking like a decent candidate, but she simply was not.
00:50:46.000 She says, by the way, that the solution to all of this is that we need clear-eyed patriotism.
00:50:51.000 We have to blame Republicans.
00:50:53.000 Also, Congress should hold more hearings.
00:50:56.000 Hearings would be good.
00:50:57.000 And finally, she says that the issue is not just the president's possible obstruction of justice, it's our national security.
00:51:05.000 And the president is not taking this stuff seriously enough.
00:51:07.000 We need someone who will.
00:51:08.000 So who is that?
00:51:09.000 Joe Biden?
00:51:09.000 Again, Obama was president when all this was going down.
00:51:12.000 Okay, final thing that I hate today.
00:51:14.000 So Taraji Henson and Terrence Howard are now telling both Disney and Fox that they want Jussie Smollett to be brought back for Empire's next season.
00:51:21.000 Now, I don't watch Empire, so frankly, I don't care.
00:51:23.000 And if this is how they want to sync their show, you're welcome to it.
00:51:26.000 If you want to have on race hoaxer Jussie Smollett, go for it.
00:51:29.000 What will happen is that the first two episodes will have massive ratings, and then there'll be a serious drop-off as people realize they can't watch a guy who was involved in beating himself up.
00:51:38.000 That that's not a thing they want to do.
00:51:40.000 But the fact that actors think that they can dictate to Disney how that series is going to get cast?
00:51:45.000 Sure.
00:51:45.000 Enjoy that.
00:51:46.000 See how that works for you.
00:51:47.000 Okay.
00:51:48.000 Well, it is the weekend for me.
00:51:50.000 Tomorrow, there will be more Ben Shapiro show, but it will not be hosted by me.
00:51:53.000 It'll be hosted by, I believe, Jason Rantz today and Jason Rantz tomorrow as well.
00:51:56.000 So you can check out our radio show tomorrow.
00:51:59.000 So enjoy that.
00:52:00.000 In the meantime, I'm going to be celebrating the rest of my Passover holiday.
00:52:04.000 And then I will be back here on Monday, where I will be here for all three hours of the show, podcast, additional two hours.
00:52:10.000 So go subscribe now.
00:52:11.000 Now's a great time to do it.
00:52:12.000 And we will see you then.

00:52:41.000 Joe Biden is in, and according to Morning Consult, he opens with an eight-point lead, not just over his Democrat opponents, but over President Trump himself.
00:52:50.000 We will analyze 2020 than the mailbag.
