Summary

A new Monmouth poll shows Donald Trump with a slight edge over Ted Cruz in the latest CNN/ORC poll, and a new Fox News statement about Donald Trump and Megyn Kelly. Meanwhile, Trump decides not to go to the Republican Debates, and Fox News responds with a snarky statement about why it doesn't think he should even be invited to the debate. Ben Shapiro explains why this is a smart strategy by Donald Trump, and how it could backfire on Fox News and hurt their chances of getting him on stage with Ted Cruz on Tuesday night in Ames, Iowa. He also explains why Trump should be worried about getting booed off the stage by other candidates. And he explains why Fox News is happy to play into Trump's strategy of centralizing all the headlines around him and making him the center of attention, even if it means hurting his chances of winning the primary. 00:00:00.000 Here we are.
00:00:01.000 It is indeed a Wednesday, and we are moving through the week with our usual efficiency and alacrity.
00:00:07.000 And it's beginning to dawn on me that the way that the world may end is President Trump getting syphilis from a French whore and then nuking Paris, and us all dying in a retaliatory strike.
00:00:18.000 Beyond those random thoughts, I have some more non-random thoughts.
00:00:21.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.
00:00:22.000 This is The Ben Shapiro Show.
00:00:31.000 New Monmouth poll is out today, and it shows Donald Trump among likely voters up 30% to 23% over Ted Cruz.
00:00:37.000 If I sound depressed, that's because I am.
00:00:40.000 I'm thinking of giving up my day job, donning a cowl and a cape, and fighting crime in the streets.
00:00:45.000 Because, honestly, I'm not sure that speaking reason to people is making very much of a difference.
00:00:50.000 Again, Donald Trump, is he better than Hillary Clinton?
00:00:53.000 Yes, but so is a splitting headache or a terrible case of stage 4 cancer.
00:00:58.000 Most things in life are better than Hillary Clinton.
00:01:00.000 That doesn't mean that Donald Trump is the best available choice for the primaries.
00:01:03.000 Nonetheless, Donald Trump continues to centralize all headlines.
00:01:08.000 And some of this is Trump is skilled at centralizing headlines.
00:01:11.000 And some of this is that Fox News really wants the ratings.
00:01:15.000 And listen, I watch Fox News.
00:01:17.000 I love Fox News.
00:01:17.000 I appear on Fox News.
00:01:19.000 But this latest spat between Donald Trump and Fox News appears, if not choreographed, there's a mutuality of interest.
00:01:27.000 Let's put it that way.
00:01:28.000 Donald Trump wants the exposure, he wants the headlines, and Fox News is happy to play into that and appear as though they are unbiased by bashing the Republican frontrunner.
00:01:37.000 So it seems like everybody is kind of happy to play at this game.
00:01:40.000 What am I talking about?
00:01:41.000 Well, yesterday, Donald Trump, late at night, he decided that he wasn't going to do the Republican debate.
00:01:46.000 He was just done.
00:01:47.000 It was over.
00:01:48.000 There would be no more Republican debate for them.
00:01:52.000 And here's how it started.
00:01:54.000 So yesterday, Donald Trump started tweeting out that he doesn't like Megyn Kelly, and he put up a poll on his Twitter saying, should I go to the Republican debate?
00:02:02.000 Which is obviously a precursor to, no, I won't go to the Republican debate, right?
00:02:06.000 And so Fox News released a statement, and here is the statement that Fox News released.
00:02:11.000 Quote, We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president.
00:02:20.000 A nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to these meetings.
00:02:28.000 And this is Fox News' statement.
00:02:30.000 And just stop there for a moment.
00:02:32.000 Trump is making an idiot of himself with the whole Megyn Kelly victimized me, I'm a victim.
00:02:37.000 Not with his viewers, not with the people who love him, because this is how Trump wins.
00:02:41.000 I mean, he said this all the way back in August, I whine and I whine and I whine until I win.
00:02:44.000 And he's never varied from that.
00:02:46.000 It's a useful strategy, and he's used it many times.
00:02:48.000 He's using it now with regard to Megyn Kelly, and I think it's a calculated play.
00:02:52.000 I think this whole thing is a calculated play by Trump.
00:02:54.000 He doesn't want to be on a stage with Ted Cruz.
00:02:56.000 He's afraid he's gonna get bashed around three days before Iowa on everything from abortion to crony capitalism.
00:03:01.000 And so instead what he's doing is he's picking a fight, centralizing the headlines around himself and hoping that the polls sort of freeze in place and he wins Iowa.
00:03:09.000 That's his plan.
00:03:10.000 And there are a few ways that works out for Donald Trump.
00:03:12.000 Right?
00:03:12.000 If he doesn't go to the debate and nobody watches, that's a win for Trump.
00:03:16.000 If he doesn't go to the debate and Rubio and Cruz beat each other up, which is very possible, then he just soars right over the top.
00:03:22.000 It's a win for Donald Trump.
00:03:24.000 If Fox News goes after Donald Trump, it's a win for Donald Trump.
00:03:27.000 And even if Donald Trump loses Iowa, he can always blame it on Fox News and then try to win New Hampshire, where he has about a 20-point lead.
00:03:34.000 Right now.
00:03:35.000 So that's Trump's strategy.
00:03:37.000 So none of this is just spur of the moment.
00:03:39.000 But anyway, Fox News releases this kind of snarky statement.
00:03:44.000 And I want to pause there for a second because it's actually not appropriate for Fox News to release that statement.
00:03:48.000 It's actually a bizarre statement to release.
00:03:50.000 Can you imagine?
00:03:52.000 If CNN were holding a debate and a Republican said, I'm not showing up because CNN is biased and CNN then said, well, you know, Vladimir Putin and the Ayatollah called and they say that they're too tough for you.
00:04:02.000 If they're too tough for you, if we're too tough for you, they're too tough.
00:04:05.000 I mean, if you like, like the outrage would be palpable if somebody said that to a Republican or a Democrat, the proper response is it's Donald Trump's choice whether to show up for the debate or not.
00:04:15.000 He's known for months who is going to be moderating this debate.
00:04:17.000 It's not a big surprise.
00:04:19.000 And this seems
00:04:20.000 Calculated by Mr. Trump to avoid the debate, and that would be the end of the statement.
00:04:24.000 But instead, they release this kind of snarky, unsourced, anonymous comments media-ite.
00:04:27.000 So, Trump then fires back.
00:04:29.000 And Trump fires back with a press conference and a statement.
00:04:32.000 We'll play some of the press conference in a moment.
00:04:34.000 Here was his long, long statement.
00:04:36.000 Quote, As someone who wrote one of the best-selling business books of all time, The Art of the Deal, and it's such, it's such typical Trump.
00:04:42.000 I mean, the guy cannot get through three words consecutively without talking about how magnificent he is.
00:04:48.000 He says, as someone who wrote one of the best-selling business books of all time, The Art of the Deal, who has built an incredible company including some of the most valuable and iconic assets in the world, and as someone who has a personal net worth of many billions of dollars, Mr. Trump knows a bad deal when he sees one.
00:05:03.000 Fox News is making tens of millions of dollars on debates and setting ratings records, the highest in history, whereas in previous years they were low-rated afterthoughts.
00:05:12.000 Now, I wasn't aware that Trump begrudges people their wealth.
00:05:15.000 I mean, I thought that was sort of the premise of his campaign, is if you make money, you make money.
00:05:18.000 But he continues, unlike the very stupid, highly incompetent people running our country into the ground, Mr. Trump knows when to walk away.
00:05:26.000 Roger Ailes and Fox News think they can toy with him, but Mr. Trump doesn't play games.
00:05:30.000 There have already been six debates, and according to all online debate polls, including Drudge, Slate, Time Magazine, and many others, Mr. Trump has won all of them, in particular the last one.
00:05:39.000 Okay, just note, online polls are not scientific.
00:05:44.000 Okay, you can have all of the Trump trolls go to drudge and stack up the votes for Trump.
00:05:48.000 That doesn't mean, scientifically speaking, people thought Trump won all those debates, but that's irrelevant to Trump.
00:05:53.000 Anything that says that Trump wins is a gospel truth to Donald Trump.
00:05:57.000 Anything that has him losing doesn't exist.
00:05:59.000 He says, whereas he has always been a job creator and not a debater, he nevertheless truly enjoys the debating process, and it has been very good for him, both in polls and popularity.
00:06:08.000 He will not be participating in the Fox News debate and will instead host an event in Iowa to raise money for the veterans and wounded warriors who have been so treated so horribly by all our talk, our all talk, no action politicians.
00:06:19.000 Like running for office as an extremely successful person, this takes guts and is the kind of mentality our country needs in order to make America great again.
00:06:29.000 So he's touting his own guts and his own well-being.
00:06:32.000 It's so typical Trump and Trump
00:06:34.000 He really is just Las Vegas.
00:06:35.000 That's all Donald Trump is.
00:06:36.000 Like, in a human, he's just Las Vegas.
00:06:39.000 So, Fox News then fires back.
00:06:42.000 And you gotta imagine, again, Fox News at any point here can say, Mr. Trump's decision is his own decision, we plan on moving forward with the debate as planned, and that's the end of this.
00:06:51.000 Instead, Fox News fires back, quote, As many of our viewers know, Fox News is hosting a sanctioned debate in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday night, three days before the first votes of the 2016 election are cast in the Iowa caucus.
00:07:03.000 Donald Trump is refusing to debate seven of his fellow presidential candidates on stage that night, which is near unprecedented.
00:07:09.000 We're not sure how Iowans are going to feel about him walking away from them at the last minute, but it should be clear to the American public, by now, that this is rooted in one thing.
00:07:17.000 Megyn Kelly, whom he has viciously attacked since August, and has now spent four days demanding be removed from the debate stage.
00:07:24.000 Capitulating to politicians' ultimatums about a debate moderator violates all journalistic standards, as do threats, including the one leveled by Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, toward Megyn Kelly.
00:07:35.000 In a call on Saturday with a Fox News executive, Lewandowski stated that Megyn, quote, had a rough couple of days after that last debate, and he would, quote, hate her to have to go through that again.
00:07:45.000 Lewandowski was warned not to level any more threats, but he continued to do so.
00:07:48.000 We can't give in to terrorizations toward any of our employees.
00:07:52.000 Trump is still welcome at Thursday night's debate.
00:07:54.000 Terrorizations?
00:07:55.000 Really?
00:07:55.000 So Trump's guy calls up and makes a Trumpian threat, and it's a terrorization?
00:07:58.000 Right, it's like Hamas.
00:07:59.000 Yeah, it's like Hezbollah.
00:08:00.000 So it's... If you don't know what a WWE pre-fight looks like, this is what a WWE pre-fight looks like.
00:08:19.000 And the proof is in the pudding.
00:08:20.000 Donald Trump said, I'm not going to appear on Fox News, those bastards putting Megyn Kelly in this debate.
00:08:25.000 And Fox News goes, he's attacking Megyn Kelly, the greatest host that ever was.
00:08:29.000 And I like Megyn Kelly, but I mean, he's not attending the debate for a specific reason.
00:08:34.000 He doesn't want to debate Ted Cruz.
00:08:35.000 It has nothing to do with Megyn Kelly.
00:08:37.000 But he's making it about Megyn Kelly.
00:08:38.000 And then Trump tweets out, I'd call Megyn Kelly a bimbo.
00:08:41.000 I'd call her a bimbo.
00:08:43.000 But that would be not politically correct.
00:08:46.000 Trump says that now too.
00:08:48.000 And at any point, they could all just call off the dogs.
00:08:51.000 Here's the proof, okay?
00:08:52.000 Tonight, where is Donald Trump appearing tonight?
00:08:55.000 Where is he appearing tonight?
00:08:57.000 He is on the O'Reilly Factor with Bill O'Reilly on Fox News.
00:09:01.000 So he says he won't appear on the debate on Fox News, and Fox News responds by having him appear on the second highest rated host on Fox News.
00:09:10.000 Now again, the ratings game is the rating game.
00:09:13.000 Everybody understands it.
00:09:14.000 Trump's strategy is Trump's strategy.
00:09:16.000 Everybody understands it.
00:09:18.000 But for Trump followers to say that this is a principled opposition by Donald Trump is just ridiculous.
00:09:25.000 And for Fox News to pretend that this is principled opposition by Fox News is not quite as ridiculous, but still, like, the ratings have something to do with forwarding this fight, no?
00:09:34.000 Like, just a little bit?
00:09:36.000 Now, honestly, I don't know how Fox News was supposed to respond to Trump threatening them.
00:09:39.000 I mean, that's like, they have to go forward with the debate.
00:09:42.000 But it's the spicy language that they're using that feels WWE.
00:09:45.000 It feels like a boxing pregame where you get the two guys and they get real nose-to-nose and it's all awkward.
00:09:51.000 That's sort of what it feels like now.
00:09:52.000 So does Trump show up for the debate tomorrow night?
00:09:54.000 Who knows?
00:09:55.000 I'll talk probably tomorrow about what a Trump-less debate looks like.
00:09:59.000 But here is Donald Trump.
00:10:00.000 He called a press conference and everybody showed up for the Donald Trump press conference.
00:10:04.000 Here is Donald Trump talking about what he's going to do with the debate.
00:10:09.000 Well, Fox is going to make a fortune.
00:10:12.000 I told Fox she should give money to the Wounded Warriors.
00:10:14.000 I'm not a fan of Megyn Kelly.
00:10:16.000 I think she's a third-rate reporter.
00:10:18.000 I think she, frankly, is not good at what she does.
00:10:21.000 And I think they could do a lot better than Megyn Kelly.
00:10:24.000 And so I'm going to be making a decision with Fox, but I probably won't bother doing the debate.
00:10:28.000 I see they picked me as number one.
00:10:30.000 Not only number one, number one by far, but probably I won't be doing the debate.
00:10:35.000 I'm going to have something else in Iowa.
00:10:36.000 We'll do something where we raise money for the veterans and the wounded warriors.
00:10:40.000 We're going to do something simultaneously with the debate, but most likely I'm not going to do the debate.
00:10:45.000 I didn't like the fact that they sent out press releases toying, talking about Putin and playing games.
00:10:50.000 I don't know what games Roger Ailes is playing, but what's wrong over there?
00:10:54.000 Something's wrong.
00:10:56.000 But when they sent out that press release talking about, I said,
00:10:59.000 What are these people playing games?
00:11:00.000 So most likely, I won't be doing the debate.
00:11:04.000 What are these people, playing games?
00:11:05.000 They all want to play games?
00:11:06.000 I'm the only one who plays games.
00:11:08.000 I love Monopoly.
00:11:08.000 Also Life.
00:11:10.000 Those are my two favorite games.
00:11:11.000 I mean, he... So, okay, a couple of things.
00:11:14.000 One, Trump doing this Wounded Warriors routine.
00:11:16.000 Alright, I'm gonna go and I'm gonna do an event for the Wounded Warriors, which is just his way of getting out of having to do the debate, obviously, because you can't rip him for raising money for Wounded Warriors.
00:11:25.000 I will just make two observations.
00:11:26.000 Donald Trump is the guy who said that John McCain was a loser for being a POW,
00:11:31.000 And also, Donald Trump is worth, in his own estimation, $10 billion.
00:11:35.000 If he wants to raise money for the Wounded Warriors, you know how he could do it?
00:11:39.000 I assume he owns a checkbook.
00:11:41.000 He could just write them a very large check, right?
00:11:43.000 But no, this is... All you need to know about Donald Trump, really, in terms of his persona, is a long time ago, Donald Trump got in a fight with the, uh...
00:11:54.000 He got in a fight with Spy Magazine.
00:11:57.000 And Spy Magazine called Donald Trump a short-fingered Bulgarian.
00:12:02.000 They said the idea of short fingers, so in future clips we'll have to see if Donald Trump has short fingers.
00:12:07.000 And apparently, the editor of Spy Magazine at that time was a guy named Graydon Carter, who now edits Vanity Fair.
00:12:14.000 And apparently, Graydon Carter still.
00:12:16.000 He says, quote,
00:12:30.000 I almost feel sorry for the poor fellow because to me the fingers still look abnormally stubby.
00:12:38.000 Trump told the New York Post in 2011, quote, my fingers are long and beautiful as it has been well documented are various other parts of my body.
00:12:51.000 Sorry.
00:12:52.000 It's just, this guy is gonna be the President of the United States.
00:12:57.000 He laughs so you don't cry a little bit.
00:12:59.000 And the people who are falling into the whole Trump is the bravest, he's a brave butterfly flying against the wind routine.
00:13:05.000 Okay, Trump could, by the way, turn the debate to a win, right?
00:13:08.000 He could show up at the debate and he could rip Megyn Kelly in front of everybody.
00:13:11.000 But he's not going to do that, because he likes playing victim, and playing victim is a useful tactic to him, so he's going to play that forward, and Fox News is going to play this up for all it's worth, because why not?
00:13:19.000 You know, you might as well make a little bit of money on the side here.
00:13:23.000 And at no point does it ever enter into anybody's calculations that the voters might actually want to look at what Donald Trump has to say, but the truth is that the Donald Trump voters don't want to hear what Donald Trump has to say.
00:13:32.000 The Donald Trump voters... I mean, not all of them.
00:13:34.000 This is not fair.
00:13:35.000 Not all of the Donald Trump voters... Again, there's a good reason to vote for Donald Trump.
00:13:38.000 Can you think that Donald Trump is a master strategist who is capable of turning the world on its ear?
00:13:44.000 And every time he makes a headline, that's more proof that that's at least, in some part, true.
00:13:49.000 That's at least an argument.
00:13:50.000 But the people who say he's conservative, or he's a real tough guy, or any of the rest of it... No.
00:13:55.000 No.
00:13:56.000 No.
00:13:57.000 Okay, so anyway, let's continue with Donald Trump because at this point you can either be amused or you can stick your head in the oven.
00:14:03.000 So here's Donald Trump continuing with his rant last night.
00:14:07.000 The point is that with me, they're dealing with somebody that's a little bit different.
00:14:12.000 They can't toy with me like they toy with everybody else.
00:14:15.000 So let them have their debate and let's see how they do with the ratings.
00:14:19.000 And I told them, I said,
00:14:20.000 Give money to the wounded warriors.
00:14:22.000 Give money to the veterans.
00:14:23.000 They're going to make a fortune with the debate.
00:14:26.000 Now, let's see how many people watch.
00:14:27.000 We'll have our own event.
00:14:29.000 We'll raise some money for the wounded warriors.
00:14:31.000 We'll raise money for the vets.
00:14:33.000 But when they sent out the Wiseguy press releases a little while ago, I was all set to do the debate.
00:14:37.000 I came here to do the debate.
00:14:39.000 When they sent out the Wiseguy press releases a little while ago, done by some PR person along with Roger Ailes, I said, bye-bye, okay?
00:14:50.000 He said bye bye, just like he did to his first and second wives.
00:14:53.000 And Donald Trump, when he says things like, you know, I'm in a fight with Roger Ailes, let's be clear about something.
00:15:02.000 Fox News made Donald Trump.
00:15:06.000 Between 2000 and 2011, the only people who were having Donald Trump on the air regularly to talk politics
00:15:12.000 Or the people at Fox News.
00:15:13.000 In fact, Trump has changed his tune a little bit on all of this, and I'll show you that in a second.
00:15:18.000 But Donald Trump, he appeared 130 times on Fox News last year.
00:15:24.000 In September, after that debate with Megyn Kelly, where he complained about how viciously she treated him.
00:15:28.000 And I said at the time I didn't like the questions she was asking him, by the way.
00:15:31.000 When he complained about that, he said, I will not appear on Fox News again.
00:15:35.000 Who was the star of Fox News's New Year's Eve coverage?
00:15:39.000 Donald Trump, live from Florida.
00:15:42.000 Again, he's on O'Reilly tonight.
00:15:45.000 So if it feels like this is a little bit of a game, he says we're not playing games.
00:15:47.000 Really?
00:15:48.000 Are we not playing games?
00:15:49.000 Just a little bit?
00:15:51.000 We're not playing games.
00:15:52.000 Okay, here's Donald Trump going up against, ripping Megyn Kelly.
00:15:56.000 He did this last night too.
00:15:57.000 This is all about Megyn Kelly, how much he hates Megyn Kelly.
00:15:59.000 She's unfair, she's terrible.
00:16:01.000 Megyn Kelly's the worst.
00:16:01.000 By the way, this week he said he likes Nancy Pelosi and he likes Harry Reid.
00:16:05.000 Megyn Kelly's really where he draws the line.
00:16:07.000 Donald Trump continues.
00:16:08.000 I said give money to the wounded warriors.
00:16:11.000 I said give money to the veterans.
00:16:13.000 Megyn Kelly is a lightweight.
00:16:15.000 This is a lightweight.
00:16:16.000 This is not a reporter.
00:16:18.000 This to me is just a lightweight.
00:16:20.000 Megyn Kelly shouldn't be in the debate.
00:16:22.000 I don't care about Megyn.
00:16:24.000 When Megyn Kelly didn't ask me a question, she made a statement last time.
00:16:28.000 I thought it was inappropriate.
00:16:30.000 Everybody said I won the debate.
00:16:32.000 Everybody said I won the last debate.
00:16:33.000 They said I won all of the debates.
00:16:35.000 We've had six debates now.
00:16:37.000 Why should the networks continue getting rich on these debates?
00:16:42.000 Give some to the Wounded Wars, they're making a fortune.
00:16:44.000 Let's see how much money Fox is going to make on the debate without me, okay?
00:16:49.000 And CNN is of course over the moon about this because Trump apparently is going to hold a competing event and CNN will broadcast the competing event during the debate.
00:16:58.000 All of this is, I mean, when they said bread and circuses, I didn't think that the circuses were actually going to be literal.
00:17:04.000 So,
00:17:05.000 I mean, this is the big top, and now the circus is missing its elephant, so this is just, it's amazing.
00:17:10.000 Megyn Kelly has responded to Donald Trump now.
00:17:13.000 She responded last night, and she played, you know, she says, Donald Trump can't control the media, and this is how the battle goes down.
00:17:20.000 He says that she can't control me, I don't have to show up, and she says, well, he can't control who moderates the debates, here's Megyn Kelly.
00:17:27.000 Trump is not used to not controlling things as the chief executive of a large organization.
00:17:33.000 But the truth is, he doesn't get to control the media.
00:17:38.000 And while he's made his position clear about me, after that first debate, Roger Ailes made his position clear too.
00:17:48.000 And, you know, when Trump started it up again this past Saturday and then resumed it again and again and again and again, he was told repeatedly,
00:17:55.000 Our debate team is settled, and then came that Instagram video he put out today, followed by the company statements.
00:18:04.000 And of course, Megyn Kelly is right that Trump has known for months what was coming, so this is all play-fighting.
00:18:09.000 It really is sort of play-fighting.
00:18:11.000 Do I think that Trump actually ends up back in the debate?
00:18:13.000 I think there's a 50-50 shot that Roger Ailes calls up Trump, or more importantly, that Rupert Murdoch calls up Trump, Trump claims victory, I bigfooted Fox News, and then he's back in the debate.
00:18:23.000 And this circus is going to continue like this.
00:18:25.000 Now, again, for the Trump fans, this is sort of glorious, because if you're a Trump fan, then what you're saying is, look at this guy, he's jacking around Fox News.
00:18:31.000 I mean, this is the most powerful news network in America, and while Megyn Kelly is saying he can't control the media, the entire media is now talking about this, so clearly that's not completely true.
00:18:40.000 And while Megyn Kelly is saying he can't control how Fox News operates, again, Trump is going to be on Bill O'Reilly tonight.
00:18:46.000 But I really don't think this is about Megyn Kelly.
00:18:48.000 I think this is about a specific strategy by Donald Trump to avoid this last debate.
00:18:51.000 I think that's what this is.
00:18:52.000 I think he doesn't want to be part of the last debate.
00:18:54.000 That's why he's moaning about this.
00:18:56.000 Because again, he has the full capacity.
00:18:59.000 To walk on stage and say whatever he wants to Megyn Kelly.
00:19:02.000 The minute that she asks him some question he deems unfair, he can say, look, Megyn, we know you don't like me personally.
00:19:07.000 We know that you're out to get me.
00:19:09.000 And that's been obvious for months, right?
00:19:10.000 He could say that and it would actually be a big win for him on stage.
00:19:13.000 But he isn't doing that because he doesn't want to be part of the debate.
00:19:16.000 And the proof that he doesn't want to be part of the debate is that Ted Cruz was on Mark Levin's show yesterday and Ted Cruz challenged Trump.
00:19:22.000 He said, fine, look, we don't have to have Megyn Kelly.
00:19:24.000 We don't have to have anybody.
00:19:25.000 Let's you and me just do this for 90 minutes.
00:19:27.000 Here's Ted Cruz.
00:19:29.000 And the fact that Donald is now afraid to appear on the debate stage, that he doesn't want his record questioned, I think that reflects a lack of respect for the men and women of Iowa, that he's unwilling to go to Des Moines and be questioned.
00:19:42.000 And so, listen, where is Iowa right now?
00:19:45.000 It is a dead heat between Donald and me.
00:19:48.000 We are effectively tied, and Monday, six days from now, we'll decide, Iowa, we'll decide.
00:19:54.000 And so if Donald is afraid of Megyn Kellett,
00:19:58.000 I would like to invite him on your show to participate in a one-on-one debate between me and Donald, mano a mano.
00:20:07.000 Now, we could do it a number of ways.
00:20:08.000 We could have you moderated, Mark.
00:20:10.000 We could have Sean Hannity moderated.
00:20:12.000 We could have Rush Limbaugh moderated.
00:20:14.000 But you know what?
00:20:15.000 If he's afraid of Megyn Kelly, if he's afraid of you and afraid of Hannity and afraid of Rush, then we could do it without any moderators whatsoever.
00:20:23.000 I'm happy to go an hour and a half, mano a mano, me and Donald.
00:20:27.000 With no moderators, anytime before the Iowa caucuses.
00:20:32.000 That's what a candidate who actually wants to work for the people, wants to earn the support of the people, will do is just stand up and defend your record.
00:20:42.000 And so I would invite Donald, let's do the event.
00:20:45.000 And by the way, he's been saying this past week that he thinks I'm stupid.
00:20:50.000 That he should do very, very well in a debate with someone who's so stupid, away from moderators that he is so afraid of.
00:20:58.000 And obviously, Cruz is correct.
00:21:00.000 I mean, Trump doesn't want to debate him.
00:21:01.000 And this is, I think, the problem for the Cruz campaign and Trump doing this.
00:21:06.000 I think there's a big problem for Trump.
00:21:07.000 I think it's a risky move.
00:21:08.000 I think that it could backfire.
00:21:09.000 People could see him as a pansy.
00:21:10.000 People could see him as a weakling.
00:21:12.000 People could see him as a whiner.
00:21:13.000 There is a risk for Trump.
00:21:14.000 But the risk for Cruz is that everybody plays this as Trump is afraid of Megyn Kelly, when in reality, Trump is not afraid of Megyn Kelly.
00:21:21.000 Trump is afraid of Ted Cruz.
00:21:24.000 He's afraid of the rest of the Republican field, because contrary to Donald Trump's opinion, Donald Trump at the beginning of last debate got clobbered by Ted Cruz.
00:21:32.000 On the birth question, Ted Cruz just, I mean, he manhandled him.
00:21:36.000 There's no question about it.
00:21:37.000 So, by the way, how do you know that Trump is, this is all shamanistic bull nonsense?
00:21:42.000 Okay, the reason that you know this is because here is Donald Trump, circa 2012, on his least favorite news network,
00:21:50.000 Fox News.
00:21:51.000 And here is Donald Trump saying that people really shouldn't skip debates.
00:21:56.000 It demonstrates a lack of courage to skip debates.
00:21:59.000 Mitt Romney's not going to participate.
00:22:00.000 And it sounded like you were genuinely disappointed at that.
00:22:03.000 I was.
00:22:03.000 Will it change your view of him as a candidate?
00:22:06.000 Well, I'd like to say it doesn't.
00:22:07.000 It probably does.
00:22:08.000 But I'd like to say it doesn't.
00:22:10.000 I like him.
00:22:10.000 He's a wonderful guy.
00:22:11.000 I got to know him very well.
00:22:12.000 He came to Trump Tower.
00:22:13.000 We had many conversations.
00:22:15.000 And they've almost all come to Trump Tower, which I'm honored by.
00:22:19.000 But I'm only, you know, I'm doing it because I think it's important that the Republicans pick the right person.
00:22:24.000 I was disappointed in Mitt because I really thought that he would go out and had courage because he was going to be talking about things that other people would not have talked about and they haven't been talking about.
00:22:35.000 Obama hasn't been talking about.
00:22:37.000 Okay, so Mitt Romney lacked courage.
00:22:39.000 She said the same thing about Michelle Bachman.
00:22:41.000 Also, you notice who he's talking to there?
00:22:43.000 He's talking to some reporter, some crazy blonde reporter from Fox News, named Megyn Kelly.
00:22:48.000 And not only that, he actually, in that same interview, he talked about Megyn Kelly, and she talked to him about who moderators for debates should be, and how that would go, and here's what Donald Trump had to say.
00:22:57.000 This is just four short years ago.
00:22:59.000 I mean, I know moderators that are doing debates that don't even know what they're talking about.
00:23:03.000 They're just asking questions.
00:23:04.000 They don't even know what the question means.
00:23:06.000 So I think we would do very well.
00:23:08.000 We'll have to see what happens.
00:23:09.000 I mean, one of the problems that we're having is they want me to give up the possibility of doing the independent run.
00:23:14.000 And while it's not something I want to do, it's not something that I'm going to give up.
00:23:18.000 Do you really think that you're a better moderator than I am?
00:23:21.000 No, I could never beat you.
00:23:23.000 That wouldn't even be close.
00:23:24.000 There would be no contest.
00:23:25.000 You have done a great job, by the way, and I mean it.
00:23:27.000 Thank you.
00:23:27.000 I'm glad we cleared that up.
00:23:29.000 Oh.
00:23:30.000 My.
00:23:31.000 God.
00:23:32.000 I mean, seriously, this is... I've been reduced to guttural moans.
00:23:37.000 I mean, there really isn't... Trump is such a hack.
00:23:41.000 I mean, I'm sorry, just a hack.
00:23:42.000 He's on every side of every issue.
00:23:44.000 He switches positions as is convenient.
00:23:46.000 And I know there are some people who find this charming, and there are some people who think this makes for a good politician, that he's our Obama because he'll lie and he'll cheat and he'll steal to get where he wants to go.
00:23:55.000 Right?
00:23:55.000 And then he'll get there and he will screw you.
00:23:57.000 Okay?
00:23:57.000 If you're a conservative,
00:23:59.000 Don't assume that because Donald Trump is cheating, and because he is lying, and because he's manipulating, that he's doing that on your behalf.
00:24:06.000 Donald Trump only does things on Donald Trump's behalf.
00:24:09.000 Which is why he cares so deeply when people insult the stubby fingers.
00:24:12.000 That's the reason.
00:24:13.000 Because Donald Trump is an egomaniac.
00:24:16.000 End of story.
00:24:17.000 Meanwhile, that egomaniac is brilliant at manipulating the media.
00:24:20.000 There's just no two ways about it.
00:24:21.000 So, last night, I mean, we're through the looking glass.
00:24:25.000 I mean, we are truly through the looking glass.
00:24:28.000 We have entered Alice's Wonderland, and the Queen is cutting off heads for painting the roses red.
00:24:35.000 The Queen, at this point, being Michael Moore.
00:24:37.000 Michael Moore was on Megyn Kelly's show last night, and Michael Moore, that fat load of bloated socialist crap,
00:24:45.000 ...was complimenting Megyn Kelly over her fight with Trump.
00:24:51.000 Welcome to American Politics 2016.
00:24:54.000 Here now in a Kelly File exclusive, Michael Moore.
00:24:56.000 Great to see you.
00:24:57.000 Thank you for coming here.
00:24:57.000 Wow, thank you for having me.
00:24:58.000 And on this day, too.
00:25:00.000 I don't know.
00:25:01.000 What does this feel like for you?
00:25:02.000 Because you don't want to be the story.
00:25:04.000 You're a journalist.
00:25:06.000 I get to ask the questions here.
00:25:07.000 You have to answer them.
00:25:08.000 I feel bad for you.
00:25:10.000 You're being attacked by... Don't feel bad for me.
00:25:12.000 No.
00:25:12.000 What's he afraid of?
00:25:14.000 I'm sitting here.
00:25:14.000 I don't feel any fear.
00:25:16.000 I'm a pussycat.
00:25:20.000 Donald, come now.
00:25:22.000 Come sit beside me.
00:25:23.000 Stop that.
00:25:23.000 I'll hold your hand.
00:25:24.000 She's fine.
00:25:25.000 Stop it.
00:25:26.000 Stop that.
00:25:26.000 She's fine.
00:25:27.000 Would you talk about the movie?
00:25:28.000 No, we don't want to plug in a movie.
00:25:30.000 No, that's not why I'm here.
00:25:31.000 I'm on Fox News.
00:25:32.000 Is it Iowa?
00:25:33.000 Is that where you're going to invade next?
00:25:35.000 Well, no, but there are people there.
00:25:38.000 You're okay, aren't you?
00:25:38.000 You're not feeling bad right now.
00:25:40.000 I'm feeling very good, yeah.
00:25:41.000 I was thinking I was going to have to, like, hey, maybe, you know, I'll take you out to dinner afterwards.
00:25:45.000 Would you stop?
00:25:46.000 Would you talk about this?
00:25:46.000 We can talk, you know, you can emote.
00:25:50.000 Emote!
00:25:51.000 You know, get it out, you know what I'm saying?
00:25:52.000 I'm here for you, that's just what I'm saying.
00:25:54.000 I had no idea that's what he was saying to you.
00:25:57.000 Okay, so first of all, never go out to dinner with Michael Moore.
00:25:59.000 You could lose a hand.
00:26:01.000 Second of all, Michael Moore, as I mentioned before, he bears a striking resemblance to Tootles from Hook.
00:26:07.000 And if you don't know what I'm talking about at this point, you need to go back and watch Hook.
00:26:11.000 And it's striking.
00:26:12.000 I mean, only in America could a fat, white young man turn into a fat, white old lady.
00:26:17.000 It's an amazing thing.
00:26:19.000 So there's Michael Moore complimenting Megyn Kelly, and obviously she's trying to downplay this because she doesn't want to look like she's, you know, attacking Trump.
00:26:25.000 She doesn't want to look like she's on the side of the left, and there's Moore trying to give her a big, sweaty, disgusting hug, and she's just trying to kind of push him off.
00:26:35.000 We're through the looking glass, folks.
00:26:36.000 Meanwhile, Joe Scarborough, who hates Megyn Kelly, by the way, Joe Scarborough despises Megyn Kelly, and he said today that he would rather set himself on fire than do a debate in which he moderated next to Megyn Kelly, which is, coincidentally, I would also rather that he set himself on fire than do that.
00:26:53.000 But here's Joe Scarborough on MSNBC saying this is just Donald Trump at his very best.
00:26:58.000 It's his very best, guys.
00:27:00.000 Oh my goodness.
00:27:01.000 That's Trump at its very best.
00:27:03.000 He made a lot of great points there.
00:27:06.000 I'm sitting at 42% in a lot of polls.
00:27:09.000 There are people with zero that I'm going to be on the same stage with when I've got a news organization putting a press release out written by a child, which actually, that's stinging because it looked like a very childish press release.
00:27:26.000 Okay, so there's Joe Scarborough in his oversized glasses straight out of 1950s comic books, and his shrinking face.
00:27:41.000 And there's Joe Scarborough saying that Donald Trump is now the
00:27:44.000 The truth teller.
00:27:45.000 He's the great truth teller.
00:27:46.000 The media is making Trump.
00:27:48.000 The media is creating Trump.
00:27:49.000 The media are making Trump the guy.
00:27:52.000 And it's the right media, which are making ratings off of him, and it's the left media, which are...
00:27:58.000 Praising him to the skies because the truth is that Donald Trump is not a right-winger.
00:28:01.000 He's not a right-winger.
00:28:03.000 And the other networks are just over the moon about all of this, obviously, because it makes Fox News look bad.
00:28:08.000 And Fox News, again, to be fair, Fox News participated in this whole thing when they decided to get all snarky with Trump because that's really not what you should do.
00:28:15.000 I mean, there's a way to play it straight.
00:28:18.000 Chris Matthews, by the way, was over the moon about this.
00:28:22.000 He was saying that Fox News is going to lose viewers.
00:28:24.000 And then saying things that only leftists can say and get away with.
00:28:27.000 Here's Chris Matthews being a vicious racist, but no one cares because he looks like a drunken moron.
00:28:32.000 Who's gonna watch a debate between the two Cuban guys?
00:28:35.000 Who's gonna watch a debate between Rubio, Marco Rubio, and Ted Cruz?
00:28:40.000 Who cares?
00:28:41.000 Because you know they've been sort of fighting it in this little interleague fight over who's the hawkish guy or whatever.
00:28:46.000 Who's gonna watch that Thursday night?
00:28:48.000 Maybe I'm building it up too much.
00:28:50.000 Who cares about Cubans?
00:28:51.000 It's like a tiny island.
00:28:52.000 Who cares about people who come from Cuba?
00:28:53.000 I mean, Donald Trump's a racist because he said all Mexicans are rapists, but who cares about Cubans?
00:28:57.000 Why don't they watch Cubans?
00:28:59.000 Cubans are terrible.
00:29:00.000 I mean, come on, Cubans with their dominoes and their food.
00:29:03.000 Cubans.
00:29:05.000 If any right-wingers said anything remotely approaching what Chris Matthews just said on national TV, it would be a career-ender.
00:29:11.000 But, of course, he's a member of the left media, so that's not how it works.
00:29:15.000 By the way, Chris Matthews also says there's a vast right-wing conspiracy to get Hillary.
00:29:19.000 He's doing that routine again.
00:29:21.000 And just because it's fun to listen to Chris Matthews slur his words like Christopher Lloyd after a seizure, let's listen to Chris Matthews talk about the vast right-wing conspiracy to get Hillary Clinton.
00:29:32.000 Hillary, you know, I think somebody's saying to your face, we'll talk about bad manners, you know, you're dishonest.
00:29:39.000 Well, wow!
00:29:40.000 You're saying to the former Secretary of State, former Senator from New York, you're dishonest.
00:29:44.000 That's pretty nervy for a young person to say that to a major figure in American life like that kid did.
00:29:50.000 And Hillary, what's she going to say?
00:29:51.000 I'm not dishonest.
00:29:52.000 She has to go back to the motives of those who have raised the questions about her honesty, which is unfortunately for her very much like what she said back
00:30:00.000 During the Monica days when she said there's a vast right-wing conspiracy out to get me.
00:30:04.000 But in fact there is!
00:30:06.000 This is the weirdness about politics.
00:30:08.000 It can be that you can also have a problem, but your enemies are going to blow it up out of proportion.
00:30:13.000 It's a vast right-wing conspiracy to get Hillary Clinton.
00:30:15.000 I know it's a vast right-wing conspiracy because people are mean to her.
00:30:18.000 And people are mean to her and how could they be mean to her?
00:30:20.000 She's a glorious idol from Christ-like lands.
00:30:23.000 She's amazing.
00:30:24.000 I mean, how dare anyone ask a question of a Democrat that doesn't involve tingling of the legs and genitalia?
00:30:29.000 Come on!
00:30:31.000 Chris Matthews doing his damnedest to stand up for Hillary Clinton.
00:30:36.000 Yes, folks, this is your political landscape.
00:30:39.000 Three days before America begins to decide who will be the next president of the United States, and just a scary capper before we get to things I like.
00:30:47.000 The scariest thing of the day was not Donald Trump, and it wasn't Chris Matthews being a racist, and it wasn't Joe Scarborough and his tiny face, and it wasn't Michael Moore looking like Tootles.
00:30:57.000 No, the scariest thing of the day
00:30:59.000 was that spawn of demon hell, Hillary Clinton, talking about who she would nominate to be part of the Supreme Court.
00:31:06.000 Here we go.
00:31:08.000 The next president will probably appoint several members of the Supreme Court.
00:31:14.000 Would you consider appointing Obama?
00:31:21.000 Wow, what a great idea.
00:31:25.000 Nobody has ever suggested that to me.
00:31:29.000 Wow!
00:31:31.000 I love that!
00:31:33.000 Oh my god.
00:31:36.000 And we are one justice away.
00:31:37.000 This is why presidential elections actually matter.
00:31:39.000 Putting aside all this fun and games, we are one Supreme Court justice away from basically the entire Constitution being burned by the Supreme Court.
00:31:47.000 If Barack Obama were that fifth justice, say goodbye to the First Amendment, Second Amendment, Fourth Amendment, they would all go away immediately.
00:31:54.000 Scary stuff, but the good news is we can at least be entertained by Donald Trump having kabuki theater fights with Fox News.
00:32:00.000 And, uh, and writing letters to press outlets about his stubby fingers.
00:32:04.000 Okay.
00:32:05.000 Time for some things that I like and some things that I hate.
00:32:07.000 So, I finally had a chance, I mentioned yesterday I'd watched the first half of Spotlight, finished it last night with the wife.
00:32:12.000 It is a, it's a good movie.
00:32:13.000 I liked Spotlight.
00:32:14.000 I thought it's a good movie.
00:32:15.000 Um, I'm looking for, I heard Clayton rave The Revenant yesterday, so I'm gonna have to go see that, but Spotlight was a very good movie, and it's a good reminder, it's a good reminder, Spotlight is, that
00:32:25.000 When you live inside any system, the temptation is to defend the system at all costs.
00:32:31.000 The temptation is to defend the system even if the system does evil things.
00:32:36.000 And we have to recognize that morality as applied to individuals is more important than the survival of any institution.
00:32:42.000 And that's not just the Catholic Church, obviously.
00:32:44.000 There have been molestation incidents inside Jewish communities and Muslim communities.
00:32:49.000 There have been molestation
00:32:51.000 Thank you.
00:33:07.000 I don't know if you've been following this story.
00:33:08.000 We talked about it a while back on the program.
00:33:10.000 The story of Stephen and Dwight Hammond.
00:33:11.000 They were the farmers up in Oregon, the ranchers up in Oregon, who ended up being jailed after the government wanted to take their land, basically.
00:33:18.000 So, to refresh your memory, Stephen and Dwight Hammond, they're a family, they live up in Oregon, and they own a big chunk of property.
00:33:24.000 And they wanted to feed their cattle outside their land.
00:33:28.000 And that typically had been legal, but the federal government gradually cut back their water supply, gradually cut back their grazing rights, and really cut their profit margin out from under them.
00:33:38.000 Well, it was clear the government wanted to take their land.
00:33:40.000 They were trying to force them out of their own land, the Bureau of Land Management.
00:33:44.000 And there was an incident in which the Hammonds back-burned their own farm in order to prevent a wildfire from jumping onto their farm.
00:33:52.000 They burned a little bit of federal property, and the feds prosecuted them under anti-terror laws and put them in jail.
00:33:58.000 And when the judge lessened the sentence, the feds came back and forced an appeals court to reinstate the longer five-year sentence.
00:34:05.000 So, a bunch of people, including the Bundys, the Bundys had a similar situation in Nevada.
00:34:10.000 A couple of the Bundys' sons, Ryan Bundy and Ammon Bundy, they went up to Oregon and they took over a small federal house.
00:34:18.000 Like, it was an abandoned federal house in the middle of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
00:34:22.000 And they're just sitting there, they weren't doing anything, nothing bad was happening.
00:34:25.000 Well, last night, yesterday, things went bad.
00:34:29.000 The way they went bad, according to NBC News, quote,
00:34:32.000 Officials had been waiting for an opportunity to arrest the group's leadership away from the refuge to minimize the potential for violence, a senior law enforcement official told NBC News.
00:34:41.000 So, nine activists were traveling in two vehicles 45 miles outside of the refuge when the FBI and Oregon State Police pulled them over, according to the officials.
00:34:49.000 Some tried to get away and there was gunfire.
00:34:52.000 In Arizona, rancher LaVoy Finnicum, 54, was killed in the shooting, his daughter told NBC News.
00:34:57.000 Ryan Bundy was injured as well.
00:34:59.000 It's not clear who fired the shot.
00:35:01.000 Reportedly, Bundy and Finnicum were the only two members of the group not to immediately surrender.
00:35:06.000 Finnicum, who was killed, left 11 kids and 19 grandkids.
00:35:10.000 So prolific guy.
00:35:11.000 Finicum's daughter said that her dad had said that he wouldn't pull a gun on law enforcement.
00:35:16.000 She said, quote,
00:35:26.000 Philicom told NBC News on January 6th, there are things more important than your life and freedom is one of them.
00:35:31.000 I'm prepared to defend freedoms.
00:35:33.000 They were doing all this to get the Hammonds released from prison and they weren't unjustly imprisoned.
00:35:37.000 So as I said at the time, there is a danger to this tactic which is that the feds would get aggressive and somebody would get killed.
00:35:42.000 As I also said at the time, this is a case study in why we have to be extraordinarily careful in greenlighting regulations and laws because at the end of every regulation and every law is the possibility you're going to have to let the government murder somebody or kill somebody or execute somebody or shoot somebody justifiably in self-defense
00:36:01.000 If that law is resisted.
00:36:02.000 So before you pass a law about selling loose cigarettes on the street, you may want to remember that at some point if somebody is selling loose cigarettes and refuses to abide by police orders, he could get choked out and he could die.
00:36:13.000 That was Eric Garner in New York City.
00:36:15.000 Right, so how about this?
00:36:16.000 Don't pass stupid laws.
00:36:17.000 Every law we should think, is this worth somebody getting killed over?
00:36:20.000 It seems like a fair question to ask about our laws and regulations.
00:36:23.000 But this situation is even worse.
00:36:25.000 Okay, so here's what went down.
00:36:27.000 The Bundys and their group, they were apparently scheduled to meet with the federal authorities at 6 p.m.
00:36:33.000 in John Day, which is a town about 70 miles away from the refuge.
00:36:37.000 The shootings happened at 425 p.m.
00:36:37.000 according to the FBI.
00:36:41.000 Okay, so you get this?
00:36:42.000 So what happened is the Feds lured them out of the refuge.
00:36:45.000 They said, we're gonna meet you out here, and then like Sonny on the causeway, they then pulled them over, the FBI, because they were looking for an excuse to do so.
00:36:54.000 Finnecom told the Oregonian, literally the day before he was shot, quote, the tenor has changed, law enforcement have become more hardened, they're doing all the things that show they want to take some kinetic action against us, and we're saying, why be so unfriendly?
00:37:07.000 So, here are some questions that we don't know.
00:37:09.000 We don't know who initiated the shooting, still.
00:37:10.000 We haven't seen any tape, so... People are... His family is saying it was hands up, don't shoot.
00:37:15.000 I'm skeptical of that, because I'm always skeptical law enforcement just guns people down in cold blood.
00:37:19.000 It's not the way they do things.
00:37:21.000 We don't know why the authorities scheduled a meet, and then arrested these people.
00:37:25.000 Which is a pretty underhanded tactic.
00:37:28.000 We don't know whether the Feds plan to arm up and precipitate a conflict, because that's what Finnicombe was suggesting.
00:37:32.000 Finnicombe was suggesting the day in advance.
00:37:35.000 And most of all, I still don't know why somebody has to die so that the government can prove that wrongfully imprisoned farmers that Feds want to push off their land have to stay in jail.
00:37:44.000 I don't see why that is something that's worthwhile.
00:37:46.000 You have the President of the United States justifying riots in Baltimore and Ferguson for no reason, at which nobody, by the way, was killed by police.
00:37:53.000 You have the federal government greenlighting that, but a couple of people take over an abandoned building in the middle of nowhere, and somebody has to get shot over that to prove that somebody who's wrongfully imprisoned should remain in prison.
00:38:05.000 This is a scary time.
00:38:06.000 The selective aggression the Feds choose to use here should frighten you, and the fact that we are multiplying laws upon laws.
00:38:13.000 See, here's the thing.
00:38:14.000 The Constitution of the United States is not actually a hopeful document.
00:38:19.000 The Declaration of Independence is a hopeful document.
00:38:21.000 The Constitution of the United States is not a hopeful document.
00:38:25.000 The Constitution of the United States is a good description of how human beings work.
00:38:29.000 And so when the Constitution says you want to avoid people getting shot, you want to avoid people getting killed, you want to avoid conflict, a small government is the only way to do that.
00:38:37.000 The founders meant it, and the founders knew it.
00:38:39.000 And as government grows, this kind of friction is going to grow, because what happens next time there's a baker in Oregon who refuses to cater a same-sex wedding, and they fine him 140 grand, and he says no, and they come to put him in jail, and he says, I have a gun.
00:38:54.000 Are we willing to shoot somebody for not catering a gay wedding?
00:38:58.000 Is that how this is going to work now?
00:38:59.000 Because this is how fascism starts, folks.
00:39:02.000 Fascism starts with bad regulations enforced by the government at point of gun.
00:39:06.000 Government is basically a giant use of force.
00:39:09.000 That's what government is.
00:39:10.000 And what separates a good government from a bad government is the kind of laws that they're enforcing.
00:39:15.000 Because obviously the government has to enforce its laws, whatever is on the books.
00:39:18.000 Okay, so that's something that I hate.
00:39:20.000 A couple of other things that I hate that are worth pointing out today.
00:39:24.000 One.
00:39:25.000 We're only going to play about five seconds of this because it's pretty much unpalatable.
00:39:29.000 PETA, the people for the ethical treatment of animals, they're constantly trying to grab attention.
00:39:34.000 And so what they did is they decided to grab attention by grabbing some boob.
00:39:38.000 And the way that they did this is they cut an ad that they wanted to put up during the Super Bowl.
00:39:42.000 They do this every year.
00:39:43.000 And they always make an ad that's too racy for the Super Bowl, and then they release it online.
00:39:46.000 So this time,
00:39:47.000 This ad is supposed to contrast the sex lives of vegans and the sex lives of meat eaters.
00:39:52.000 First of all, I didn't know vegans have sex lives.
00:39:54.000 I'm shocked that people are willing to sleep with them.
00:39:56.000 Beyond that, the idea is that veganism, eating plant-based foods, increases your circulation, which is good for your downstairs.
00:40:05.000 And if you eat meat, then this creates cholesterol problems and thus impotence.
00:40:09.000 And to prove this, they basically created a video of
00:40:13.000 Pornography.
00:40:14.000 I mean, it's just, it's people having sex.
00:40:15.000 We'll play about two seconds of this so as not to fully alienate everyone who subscribes.
00:40:22.000 Okay, so literally, you can't see these folks, and you hear people breathing heavily.
00:40:24.000 On one side, you just have a meat-eater, woman on top of man having sex.
00:40:27.000 On the other side, vegan, woman on top of man having sex.
00:40:30.000 The vegan is incredibly muscular, by the way, which suggests he's taking protein.
00:40:34.000 In any case, the meat-eaters are done, and the vegans just continue running.
00:40:38.000 That's basically the theme of this video.
00:40:40.000 Yeah, and we can stop it there.
00:40:41.000 That's fine.
00:40:42.000 And I have several things that I dislike about this.
00:40:46.000 One is...
00:40:47.000 You really think that you're gonna get people to stop eating meat because they quote-unquote go longer in bed because they have more stamina?
00:40:54.000 Really?
00:40:55.000 First of all, I'm gonna say this isn't- I'm just gonna put this out there, okay?
00:40:58.000 Inappropriate for children, so lower your volume or pause it here until the kids are out of the room.
00:41:02.000 Okay, it's time for some frank adult discussion here on The Ben Shapiro Show.
00:41:06.000 Hey, the whole idea of men's stamina is a media-created myth.
00:41:11.000 What I mean by that is that there is no woman in the world who wants a man going at it with her in the fashion you're seeing in this video for, like, eight hours.
00:41:19.000 Okay?
00:41:20.000 It's painful.
00:41:20.000 Okay?
00:41:21.000 The idea is... It's so ridiculous.
00:41:24.000 I mean, this is... Like, I understand they're trying to appeal to men.
00:41:26.000 Oh, you can go longer.
00:41:28.000 It's a macho thing.
00:41:29.000 Okay, the reality is the average time for sex for pretty much everybody is somewhere between five and ten minutes.
00:41:33.000 That's the average time for pretty much everybody, and it could be shorter, it could be longer, but there are very few women in the world who are like, oh my god, I was just desperate to jackhammer this thing for three hours.
00:41:46.000 Like, no one does this.
00:41:48.000 So, okay, that thus ends the x-rated portion of today's podcast, The Ben Shapiro Show.
00:41:53.000 All right, so,
00:41:55.000 Actually, you know what?
00:41:56.000 That's not even true.
00:41:57.000 There's one slight addendum.
00:41:58.000 Okay, so, there's a new study that's out.
00:42:00.000 This is not x-rated.
00:42:01.000 This your kid can listen to if your kid is above the age of probably 13.
00:42:06.000 Because if your kid is above the age of 13, they know about pornography.
00:42:08.000 Welcome to the internet.
00:42:09.000 So, there's a new study out, and it suggests that teenagers and adults are opting for pornography.
00:42:15.000 Over having sex.
00:42:17.000 And the reason for this is, quote, because it is less risky than actually having sex.
00:42:20.000 The study is called the Porn Phenomenon.
00:42:22.000 It says for those age 51 to 69, safety is the fourth highest reason why they watch porn.
00:42:29.000 It is one of the key reasons teens age 13 to 17 use pornography.
00:42:33.000 The study from the Barna Group says being less risky than actual sex is higher motivation among both teens and older adults for different reasons, presumably.
00:42:41.000 Okay, so all these people are not having sex because
00:42:45.000 They are deeply concerned that they are going to have some sort of health problem or get pregnant or something along those lines.
00:42:54.000 The fact that our society has solved the problem that they created with staring at naked people and disembodied voices
00:43:03.000 This is a society that has created its own death.
00:43:07.000 I mean, the fact is, we had a pretty good system for restricting the whole dangerous sex routine.
00:43:12.000 It was called marriage.
00:43:13.000 And it really was quite swell.
00:43:15.000 You know, when people did this whole routine where they didn't have sex outside marriage, and they got married kind of young, and then they had sex with that person for the rest of their lives.
00:43:22.000 Like, for me, my STD risk is zero.
00:43:24.000 It's literally zero.
00:43:26.000 And it is zero because my wife was a virgin when we got married, and I was a virgin when we got married, and we plan on and have already only had sex with each other, and we plan on doing this forever.
00:43:35.000 Which is why I'm grateful she's hot.
00:43:37.000 But in any case, that's beside the point.
00:43:38.000 The fact is that marriage was a way
00:43:43.000 Marriage was a way of making sex safe.
00:43:46.000 Because sex always carries with it risk, just like any other human behavior.
00:43:49.000 If you're doing it with someone you trust, particularly for women, I mean, this idea that promiscuous sex has been good for women is such a lie.
00:43:55.000 If there's anybody who's put at risk by promiscuous sex, it's not men, it's women.
00:43:59.000 Okay, because women who are having promiscuous sex are significantly more likely to be abused by a man, they're significantly more likely to be mistreated, harassed, or raped by a man.
00:44:09.000 Okay, the fact is, I know that my wife, you know, barring some sort of
00:44:13.000 Horrific instance, God forbid.
00:44:16.000 She's never going to have any of those problems because the only person she's having sex with is me.
00:44:19.000 Right?
00:44:19.000 And the same thing is true for me.
00:44:21.000 Marriage was the bar against the risks of sex.
00:44:24.000 Now, watching people do it in a PETA commercial is the bar against having the risk for sex.
00:44:29.000 Which, of course, means that you're really deadening your soul and deadening your connection with other human beings, specifically in order to avoid the risk that accompanies sex.
00:44:37.000 Which is really sad and pathetic.
00:44:39.000 And, and... Yeah, it's a...
00:44:42.000 It's a call.
00:44:43.000 It should be a call.
00:44:44.000 If you want a better life, if you want a more fulfilled life, you might try some of those archaic, patriarchal, terrible old standards where people were actually happy with each other and happy having sexual relations with each other within prescribed societal confines.
00:44:58.000 Things were much better.
00:45:00.000 They were much better.
00:45:01.000 And the reason that I'm saying this is because I want everybody to have the kind of happiness in both the boudoir and in life that I have, thank God, despite the fact that I come here and pour out my grievances against the world every day.
00:45:13.000 The fact is that off the air, I'm actually a pretty happy guy.
00:45:15.000 When I go home, that's when I get to be happy.
00:45:17.000 The rest of my life, I have to be unhappy because when you follow the political scene, there's no way not to be happy, although you can laugh hysterically at what's going on.
00:45:25.000 But the fact is, if you want to lead a happy life,
00:45:28.000 God's law is pretty good at getting you there.
00:45:30.000 And so is basic societal morality.
00:45:33.000 These things are pretty good at getting you there.
00:45:34.000 The substitutes that we create for ourselves, technological or otherwise, pictures of people having sex, pictures of people running, that's not going to replace having a fulfilling marital relationship with your spouse in time, hopefully, you're blessed with kids.
00:45:48.000 I mean, honestly, I couldn't be happier in my life.
00:45:51.000 And I want everybody to have that as well.
00:45:54.000 And that means get away from the porn and get back to the Bible.
00:45:56.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.
00:45:57.000 This is The Ben Shapiro Show.
