Why is there a higher obesity rate in the black community than in the white community? Is it because black people are stupid or racist? Or is it because they don t know how to eat healthy food? Ami Horowitz and his co-host discuss this and more in a new episode of Man on the Street, where they talk about racism and food choices in America's black community, and why Whole Foods is the only place black people can get healthy food in America. They also talk about how Whole Foods should be placed in black communities, and what it could be doing to make healthy food more accessible to black people, and how that could be a good thing, if Whole Foods were in a black community. 00:00:37.000Okay, so, you'll notice that all the white people are like, yes, the black people are eating bad food because the black people are experiencing racism in American society.
00:00:45.000Now, if you ask them why white people are very fat, because there are a lot of fat white people, they would say it's personal choice, right?
00:00:51.000It's all the white people who are eating bad stuff because they're dumb hicks.
00:00:55.000These are all upper class white liberals.
00:00:57.000So they'd be saying, oh, you know, the only fat people that I know are those hicks from the sticks.
00:01:00.000So probably it's because they're stupid making bad food choices because they're white.
00:01:03.000But if it's people of color, then it's well, it must be not that they are making personal choices that impact their diet.
00:01:10.000It must be because of widespread institutional Racism.
00:01:13.000I wonder if black people feel the same way as white people.
00:01:18.000Just as upper-class white liberals think that police are the worst thing for black communities, and black people are like, no, we kind of need the cops, I have a feeling that if Ami asks a bunch of black people the same question, their answers are not going to resemble the answers given by these upper-crust white liberals.
00:01:31.000Education is a factor as well, which also ties into racism.
00:01:36.000They're not being educated as to what is good to eat, what is not good to eat.
00:02:41.000It's all, like, Doritos and everything, etc., etc.
00:02:42.000Do you think it's possible that the Corps of America was looking to destroy the black community and therefore put a lot of their stuff in there?
00:02:50.000Um, I think, um, definitely under some administration.
00:02:53.000Okay, so under some administrations, I love that.
00:02:55.000Trump probably put the McDonald's in the black community.
00:02:59.000They've tried to put things like Whole Foods in black communities, and it turns out that the market just doesn't exist for it.
00:03:05.000A lot of people just don't want to buy stuff from there.
00:03:07.000It is true that healthy food is sometimes more expensive than unhealthy food, but it depends on the kind of healthy food that you're talking about.
00:03:13.000Manufactured garbage, stuff that is just like heavily greased up french fries in a burger, That could be pretty cheap.
00:03:20.000But the truth is that a can of peas is also pretty cheap.
00:03:23.000So you can find healthy food at a low price.
00:03:25.000The notion that it is just a price differential that explains all of this is not true.
00:03:29.000There's a lot of personal decision-making that is happening right here.
00:03:32.000And if you think that Whole Foods would avoid being in a black area if there were a lot of people who wanted to buy organic kale from Whole Foods, corporations are pretty profit-driven.
00:03:40.000Do you think it's a conscious decision by corporate America to destroy the black community by making sure they have all these unhealthy choices?
00:05:38.000I just think people need to watch their eating habits.
00:05:40.000It's also down to, you know, the individual in the household and what they learn from the family around them and what they see around them as well.
00:05:46.000It's like saying we don't know what we're doing half the time when we're making the choices we make.
00:05:51.000And some, in many instances, knowing the consequences along the way.
00:05:54.000Okay, by the way, this guy for president right here.
00:05:56.000In fact, all of these people for president.
00:05:59.000All the people that Omni is talking to are like, yeah, you know, you got to make good individual choices if you don't want to be fat.
00:06:03.000This is why upper crust white progressives cannot run the country.
00:08:16.000There is no more personal decision over which you have more choice in the United States than the kind of food that you eat.
00:08:21.000And trying to blame it on systemic racism or systemic poverty is really, really dumb.
00:08:25.000You do have to ask the question as to why white woke progressives think that they can speak for black people this way.
00:08:30.000And the answer really does go to something that Shelby Steele talked about a long time ago, which is that white progressives want to maintain control of the conversation.
00:08:39.000If they get to say that racism, not my racism, systemic racism, everybody else's racism is the problem, and then they can say that black people have no responsibility inside the system, then it is not up to black people to fix their lives, and it's not even up to black people to fix the system.
00:08:52.000It's up to white woke liberals to fix the system.
00:08:54.000So they get to maintain the power by dissociating from all of these white institutions and then correcting them from the outside.
00:09:00.000So all these people are really claiming power.
00:09:03.000It's not about them being humble about their own race or about their impact on the world.
00:09:07.000It is about them dissociating from all these other bad institutions, demonstrating their own moral Credit and credibility.
00:09:14.000And then being able to say, I want to control the system in order to fix it.
