00:00:02.000 And we're live.
00:00:03.000 What's up?
00:00:04.000 Heavyweight champion of the world.
00:00:05.000 How's that feel, man?
00:00:06.000 It's amazing, you know?
00:00:08.000 It's a big blessing.
00:00:09.000 I'm just happy.
00:00:10.000 Does it seem real?
00:00:13.000 It's still, yeah, of course.
00:00:14.000 It's real.
00:00:15.000 For the first few weeks, the first few days, I was pinching myself to see if it was a dream or nothing.
00:00:20.000 But, you know, I'm just really blessed to be here.
00:00:23.000 What an incredible situation, right?
00:00:26.000 How many weeks out did you find out about the fight?
00:00:31.000 I think it was like a month, a month and two weeks.
00:00:33.000 Wow.
00:00:34.000 A month and two weeks.
00:00:35.000 I messaged Eddie Hearns.
00:00:36.000 I told him, you know what, give me the opportunity.
00:00:38.000 And what do you know, he messaged back.
00:00:39.000 Me and my girl were just all happy, like, whoa.
00:00:43.000 It was crazy.
00:00:44.000 Wow.
00:00:45.000 And you were already in camp, right?
00:00:47.000 Mm-hmm.
00:00:47.000 So, like, it wasn't like they called you out of shape?
00:00:50.000 No, it was after my fight against Alexander Dimitrenko.
00:00:54.000 Oh, that's right.
00:00:54.000 How much time did you have off to recover?
00:00:57.000 I just took, like, a week and a half off.
00:01:00.000 Oh, that's nice.
00:01:00.000 And I went back to the gym, and I was just ready and loose, so it was...
00:01:04.000 It couldn't have happened in a perfect time.
00:01:06.000 That's amazing.
00:01:07.000 Do you like it like that, where you just experienced a big fight, so you're already kind of used to the being in the ring, being on television, the whole moment of it all, and then boom, it happens again right afterwards?
00:01:19.000 Yeah, of course, you know, because I was already loose, I was already in fight mode, so especially from having the heavyweight champion title, you know, the opportunity to get that, it was amazing.
00:01:31.000 It was an incredible fight, man.
00:01:33.000 It was incredible.
00:01:33.000 Yeah, thank you.
00:01:34.000 It was really amazing.
00:01:35.000 What was amazing was when you got dropped, you kept your composure, you got up, and then he tried to move in for the kill, and then you started landing bombs on him and dropped him.
00:01:45.000 And I remember jumping off the bed while I was watching, going, oh shit!
00:01:49.000 It was wild, man.
00:01:51.000 It was a wild fight.
00:01:52.000 It was my first time getting dropped.
00:01:54.000 And you know what?
00:01:56.000 I don't feel I was super hurt, you know, because when I got dropped, he hit me with a good right hand and I took it like a champ.
00:02:03.000 But I got up, man, and I just throwing bombs.
00:02:08.000 You have fluid punches, man.
00:02:10.000 I mean, it's really interesting to watch.
00:02:13.000 You're so efficient.
00:02:14.000 Like, the way you throw punches, you're not, like, grunting and fucking digging.
00:02:18.000 Like, there's a lot of guys that you see, there's a tremendous amount of energy that's expended every time they throw punches.
00:02:25.000 But you, man, your punches just come in bunches.
00:02:28.000 You just fire them off, man.
00:02:30.000 The combinations that we've been working at in the gym.
00:02:32.000 Manny Robles.
00:02:33.000 That's why I had a trainer who throws a lot of combinations as...
00:02:36.000 We're good at working speed, so I think we click really good together.
00:02:40.000 Well, it's such a big asset for heavyweights, because most heavyweights, they're throwing big bombs.
00:02:45.000 They're looking for that one punch.
00:02:47.000 Yeah, and you just pile them on, man.
00:02:50.000 And you're throwing them at all these angles, and especially when you get in tight with dudes.
00:02:55.000 When you're in tight with dudes in these dogfights, your punches are coming at all these different angles, and so fluid.
00:03:01.000 It's beautiful to watch, man.
00:03:02.000 Thank you, man.
00:03:03.000 Especially with these big guys.
00:03:04.000 I love fighting bigger guys.
00:03:06.000 One time I fought a guy that was shorter than me and it was kind of hard.
00:03:11.000 So imagine me pressuring bigger guys and throwing these combinations.
00:03:16.000 It works for me really good.
00:03:18.000 It does.
00:03:19.000 And you're the first ever Mexican heavyweight champion of the world.
00:03:23.000 Man, thanks to God.
00:03:25.000 It's crazy, man.
00:03:26.000 It's crazy.
00:03:26.000 You are in the same league as Cain Velasquez, the first ever UFC heavyweight champion that was Mexican.
00:03:32.000 Yeah.
00:03:33.000 I mean, that's...
00:03:35.000 It's an incredible honor, man.
00:03:37.000 Thanks, man.
00:03:38.000 I appreciate that.
00:03:39.000 The love you must be getting from all the Mexicans.
00:03:42.000 Oh, my gosh.
00:03:42.000 I can't even go to the store without taking so many pictures.
00:03:46.000 People are on our lines.
00:03:47.000 They get off.
00:03:48.000 Like, say, if I'm in a drive-thru somewhere, they get off of their car and try to take pictures.
00:03:53.000 But it's a blessing, you know.
00:03:55.000 I really appreciate all my fans, all the supporters.
00:03:58.000 It's amazing, man.
00:03:59.000 And, you know, what was really cool was the post-fight press conference when you were talking about it.
00:04:04.000 You're like, damn, you know.
00:04:06.000 We made it.
00:04:06.000 And you were saying, we're set.
00:04:09.000 Telling my mom.
00:04:09.000 Yeah, you were telling your mom.
00:04:10.000 That was beautiful.
00:04:11.000 Yeah.
00:04:12.000 And because a lot of people don't know that we're struggling a lot, even before this fight, you know?
00:04:18.000 And going through a lot of the stuff with Top Rank, with Bob Barron, of me not getting a lot of fights, waiting because I had one more fight left with them.
00:04:28.000 So they didn't want to let me go.
00:04:30.000 So I had to pay it off.
00:04:33.000 Thank God you did.
00:04:34.000 Yeah.
00:04:35.000 Everything turned around so quick.
00:04:37.000 Sorry, Bob.
00:04:38.000 You fucked up!
00:04:40.000 Well, there's a lot of dudes who were not interested in fighting you.
00:04:44.000 It was one of those things where you were incredibly talented and incredibly skilled, but you didn't have the biggest name yet.
00:04:51.000 So there wasn't a lot of money in it yet.
00:04:53.000 But there was a giant risk.
00:04:55.000 A lot of the insiders were very very aware of this.
00:04:58.000 You know guys who really follow boxing were very aware of this and coming into that fight like I talked to a lot of people that are like big boxing fans And they're like that dude is a live dog.
00:05:09.000 That's a live dog Like I mean for sure Anthony Joshua is a bad motherfucker.
00:05:13.000 He's a big giant muscular dude looks like Adonis But they were like, Andy Ruiz is a live dog.
00:05:19.000 He could win that fucking fight.
00:05:20.000 It's because when they see me, they're like, oh, look at this chubby kid, man.
00:05:24.000 He's going to get tired really fast.
00:05:25.000 He's going to get knocked out.
00:05:27.000 But the real people that know about boxing, they know the skills that I have, the movement.
00:05:32.000 Yeah, I could get a little bit more fit and more leaner, you know?
00:05:36.000 Get the extra fat, turn it into muscle.
00:05:40.000 I love to do that, you know?
00:05:42.000 But the thing is, people love you because you're kind of chubby.
00:05:45.000 Yeah, because I mean...
00:05:47.000 Well, it's also you like, hey, people that go to the beach and don't want to take their shirt off, they're like, fuck, man.
00:05:53.000 Andy Ruiz is kind of built like me.
00:05:55.000 Shit.
00:05:56.000 And he's the champ of the world.
00:05:58.000 Yeah, give these big guys confidence.
00:06:01.000 It makes a big deal.
00:06:02.000 You remember when Butterbean?
00:06:03.000 Well, Butterbean was obviously never a champ, but people used to love Butterbean because he was this big fat guy who would fuck people up.
00:06:11.000 You know what?
00:06:11.000 I took a picture with Butterbean when I was like...
00:06:14.000 I think I was like five years old, six years old in Tijuana.
00:06:16.000 He fought over there.
00:06:18.000 He was a big guy, man.
00:06:20.000 He was a tank, man.
00:06:22.000 That dude had some fucking power.
00:06:24.000 He would starch people.
00:06:27.000 He really couldn't go past four or five rounds, but he would put a fucking beating on you for four rounds.
00:06:32.000 You ever seen when Johnny Knoxville from that crazy asshole decided to jackass?
00:06:37.000 Yeah, he actually made him bleed or something on the head.
00:06:40.000 He let him punch him.
00:06:42.000 For some crazy reason, he decided to try to box with Butterbean.
00:06:46.000 Butterbean just brained him.
00:06:47.000 It was not good.
00:06:49.000 Don't do that to people, man.
00:06:51.000 No.
00:06:52.000 I've got to sign a waiver.
00:06:54.000 So, you're sitting pretty right now, man.
00:06:56.000 I mean, you're at the top of the heap.
00:06:57.000 You're the champ.
00:06:58.000 And you're the most popular champ right now because you're the guy who pulled off the giant upset over the Olympic gold medalist, the man, Anthony Joshua.
00:07:08.000 You knock him out and everyone is sitting there chomping at the bit.
00:07:13.000 There's Wilder, who's probably the greatest knockout artist in the history of the heavyweight division.
00:07:19.000 And then there's Tyson Fury and Tyson Fury and Wilder trying to figure it out.
00:07:23.000 And Tyson Fury's now in a different organization.
00:07:25.000 It's hard to make the matches work now.
00:07:28.000 It's like, what happens next for you?
00:07:29.000 You know, what's going to be next is the rematch against me and Anthony Joshua.
00:07:35.000 We're still negotiating.
00:07:38.000 But there's definitely going to be a rematch this year.
00:07:41.000 Exciting fight.
00:07:44.000 But yeah, but Wilder, you know.
00:07:46.000 Wilder, me and him are on the same team.
00:07:48.000 I had a little interview with him over there at the Pacquiao fight.
00:07:52.000 And really cool dude.
00:07:53.000 He's very cool.
00:07:54.000 Yeah, he's really cool.
00:07:54.000 We respect each other.
00:07:58.000 But that'll be a good fight too, you know, between me and him.
00:08:01.000 I love that.
00:08:03.000 Well...
00:08:07.000 Yeah.
00:08:22.000 He's an interesting guy, man.
00:08:24.000 He's so interesting.
00:08:25.000 You know his story that he didn't even start boxing until he was like 20-something years old?
00:08:29.000 And he really started doing it because of his daughter, because his daughter has medical issues.
00:08:32.000 Got into the Olympic team, won a bronze medal a year and a half into boxing.
00:08:36.000 That's crazy.
00:08:37.000 Yeah, it's nuts, man.
00:08:39.000 But he's blessed, you know?
00:08:40.000 Yeah.
00:08:40.000 Blessed.
00:08:41.000 Like you, man.
00:08:43.000 I mean, it's got to be a crazy feeling now.
00:08:48.000 Like six months ago, you're the struggling boxer, you know, trying to make ends meet, you know, working your way up, very respected, but you don't have that big name yet, and then boom, you get the opportunity of all opportunities.
00:09:01.000 I think that's what I need is just the opportunity and be hungry, you know, from having nothing to wanting to want something, you know, in life.
00:09:10.000 It's a big motivation, especially me.
00:09:12.000 I have five kids, so...
00:09:14.000 Damn!
00:09:15.000 How old are you?
00:09:15.000 I'm 29. Wow, five kids.
00:09:18.000 Started early.
00:09:19.000 I know, but...
00:09:20.000 Mexican style.
00:09:21.000 Yeah.
00:09:23.000 Mexican style, exactly.
00:09:24.000 Well, hey man, your five kids are sitting pretty now, man.
00:09:27.000 Yeah, it's beautiful.
00:09:28.000 So, there's a rematch that is in negotiation now.
00:09:32.000 How much can you tell us?
00:09:34.000 That it's going to be in December, sometime December.
00:09:42.000 It's going to come out pretty soon, you know?
00:09:44.000 Can you say where it's going to be?
00:09:46.000 You already told me.
00:09:46.000 I did tell you, but...
00:09:47.000 I'm not telling anybody.
00:09:48.000 No, don't tell nobody.
00:09:49.000 Until the cameras are off.
00:09:51.000 Yeah, but it's going to be this year.
00:09:54.000 It's going to be an exciting fight.
00:09:55.000 Me and Anthony Joshua rematch.
00:09:59.000 But the words are going to come out soon.
00:10:01.000 If anything, I'll message you and be like, oh, you already know, actually.
00:10:05.000 You already know.
00:10:06.000 Well, so now going into this rematch, is there anything that you're going to do differently?
00:10:12.000 I mean, you know, obviously now that he's well aware you're a big threat.
00:10:18.000 He's going to think about you.
00:10:19.000 I'm sure he was aware you were a threat before, but when you stopped him, you became the first guy to beat him.
00:10:25.000 I mean, that changes history.
00:10:27.000 I think what we're going to do, we're getting a big house over there in Mexico, somewhere in the nowhere, so we're going to have a close camp, so we're just going to be really focused for this fight.
00:10:43.000 We're not underestimating him or anything.
00:10:46.000 You know, we just got to work hard and do it again.
00:10:49.000 Show people what I'm capable of.
00:10:51.000 Now, how much changes now that you're the champ?
00:10:54.000 Do you change anything in your camp as far as your strength and conditioning, as far as nutrition?
00:11:00.000 As long as we have all the team, you know, the stuff that we need, the nutritionist, the chef.
00:11:06.000 The coaches, you know, all the stuff that I need to win this fight.
00:11:11.000 Especially training, you know, that's the main thing.
00:11:13.000 Training is the main discipline and, you know, praying to God.
00:11:18.000 Now, coming into the fight with Joshua the first time, did you have a nutritionist?
00:11:23.000 Did you have a strength and conditioning coach?
00:11:24.000 I did.
00:11:24.000 I did have one.
00:11:26.000 The plan was not to lose too much weight, you know, because the guy's really big, you know.
00:11:31.000 I wanted to be heavy so I could carry his weight, and, you know, it worked for my favor.
00:11:36.000 But I think the main thing that I'm going to do, I might do a little bit of weight just to tighten up a little bit, but just stay busy.
00:11:44.000 That's the main thing.
00:11:45.000 Do you worry about, like, if it's not broke, don't fix it?
00:11:48.000 Like, there have been guys before that have made changes in the way they prepare, and those changes, like, maybe fuck with their confidence, or they didn't feel as good, they didn't perform the same way?
00:11:57.000 No, I don't think we're going to be changing too much of that stuff, you know?
00:12:01.000 As long as it's rich training, we have the good sparring.
00:12:04.000 Just exactly what we did for the last fight, I think that's what we're going to be doing.
00:12:07.000 Just more intense.
00:12:09.000 Now, do you have a guy that monitors your heart rate?
00:12:12.000 Do they take logs of what your resting heart rate is when you get up in the morning and your heart rate variability and all that kind of shit?
00:12:19.000 No, they don't do that.
00:12:21.000 I'm kind of just old school.
00:12:22.000 Old school.
00:12:23.000 You know, work hard, wake up, run, train, eat good for like four or five days and we have our little cheat meals, you know.
00:12:30.000 But, you know, just have a happy camp.
00:12:33.000 You know, this is heavyweight camp, like I tell everybody.
00:12:36.000 Yeah, heavyweight camp's nice.
00:12:37.000 No weight cutting.
00:12:38.000 Now, what kind of food do they have you eating?
00:12:41.000 Right now, I'm just eating light, you know, sandwiches, steaks.
00:12:48.000 I just ate a sandwich before I came on.
00:12:50.000 Well, the beautiful thing about being heavyweight is you don't have to worry about your weight, but it's in terms of optimal performance, like when your chef has you in camp.
00:12:58.000 What kind of meals they feed you?
00:13:00.000 Well, everything.
00:13:01.000 Chicken, meat.
00:13:02.000 I try not to eat too much meat, you know?
00:13:04.000 It takes too long to digest.
00:13:06.000 I get constipated.
00:13:07.000 Can't shit.
00:13:08.000 Comfortable.
00:13:10.000 But everything, you know?
00:13:12.000 Vegetables, a lot of white rice.
00:13:15.000 They tell me not to eat too much white rice, but I like white rice.
00:13:19.000 Now, do they have you taking supplements or anything like that?
00:13:22.000 You know what, for this fight I wasn't taking a lot of supplements, just multivitamins, something to get me through the training.
00:13:31.000 Yeah, basically.
00:13:32.000 And what kind of strength and conditioning should they have you doing?
00:13:34.000 You running?
00:13:35.000 Running, spraining, doing explosive stuff, a lot of mitt work.
00:13:42.000 I think that's one of my favorite things at the gym, sparring, beating people up and doing mitt work.
00:13:49.000 Yeah, of course, right?
00:13:50.000 Now, you had an extensive amateur career, too, man, which is, I think, a lot of how you're so well-schooled.
00:13:57.000 You know what?
00:13:58.000 That helped me a lot.
00:14:01.000 I first started training when I was six years old, and I trained for a whole year, and when I was seven years old, I had my first amateur fight.
00:14:09.000 I was always this big chubby kid where there wasn't people at my age at that weight.
00:14:15.000 So I always had to fight bigger guys and older guys.
00:14:18.000 So my first fight I won, but they gave it to the other guy at 12 years old fighting a seven-year-old.
00:14:25.000 You got robbed.
00:14:26.000 Uh-huh.
00:14:26.000 I got robbed.
00:14:27.000 I feel I did.
00:14:28.000 You robbed your first fight.
00:14:28.000 And I have the video too.
00:14:30.000 Oh, you just put that shit online.
00:14:32.000 Yeah.
00:14:33.000 Let the internet decide.
00:14:35.000 Wow.
00:14:36.000 So you first fight at seven years old.
00:14:37.000 That's incredible, man.
00:14:38.000 There's no substitute for that.
00:14:40.000 Guys who get into combat sports young, that's the guys who have what I was talking about that you possessed before, that sort of fluidity, the efficiency to punches.
00:14:48.000 It's like you develop throwing punches.
00:14:50.000 I think it's all muscle memory type of, you know, a lot of male work and just working hard, man, working hard.
00:14:57.000 And this is a sport that I love and I've been doing.
00:14:59.000 This is the only thing that I know.
00:15:01.000 So thank God that it paid off.
00:15:03.000 Well, it's such an amazing story.
00:15:06.000 I love a story like that.
00:15:07.000 It's such a rocky story.
00:15:09.000 Such a Cinderella story.
00:15:10.000 A Cinderella.
00:15:11.000 It's amazing.
00:15:12.000 Well, yeah, everybody underestimated me.
00:15:14.000 They're just waiting for me to get knocked down.
00:15:17.000 And then when they see me getting knocked down, they're like, oh.
00:15:19.000 And it's crazy that the announcers were saying, oh, Anthony's a great finisher.
00:15:23.000 Look at how he's going to finish him.
00:15:25.000 And what do you know?
00:15:26.000 I end up getting him with the hook.
00:15:28.000 Yeah, it was crazy.
00:15:29.000 How many times you watched the fight?
00:15:32.000 Probably like 30 times.
00:15:34.000 And I still got more to see, you know, because when he got me with the uppercut and the hook, I was kind of being on a lazy mode, you know?
00:15:43.000 I think I need to put my gear up more and move ahead more.
00:15:47.000 Well, he's a big, powerful motherfucker, but he's an outside fighter.
00:15:51.000 He likes to fight on the outside and drop big power punches.
00:15:54.000 And that's where it became apparent that when you're in the dogfight, when you guys are in tight, you have that advantage of the fluidity and efficiency in your angles.
00:16:03.000 I think it's the speed that kind of messed them up.
00:16:08.000 I'm not just a one, two, three fighter puncher.
00:16:11.000 I try to throw more than one or two punches.
00:16:15.000 Yeah.
00:16:15.000 No, dude, you throw hailstorms.
00:16:18.000 Shit coming you away from all kinds of angles.
00:16:20.000 It's awesome, man.
00:16:22.000 So you're in this amazing position now when you're headed into this fight.
00:16:26.000 How long did it take to negotiate the rematch?
00:16:28.000 I'm sure you had some sort of a contract clause, right?
00:16:30.000 Yeah, we had a contract clause.
00:16:33.000 We've just been going back and forth with my team and their team.
00:16:36.000 Because they were trying to get you to go to England.
00:16:38.000 Yeah, but no.
00:16:40.000 And you were like, I don't want to say in America, but we can't say what's happening.
00:16:44.000 I'd love to have it back over there at the Madison Square Garden.
00:16:46.000 I'd love to run it back.
00:16:49.000 How about the Staples Center?
00:16:50.000 The Staples Center.
00:16:51.000 That's what I said too in one of the interviews.
00:16:54.000 Or Vegas?
00:16:55.000 Vegas would have been great too.
00:16:58.000 But wherever it is, it's going to be an amazing fight, an amazing venue.
00:17:02.000 But tune in.
00:17:03.000 The announcement is going to be in soon.
00:17:05.000 Now, is this going to be on DAZN again?
00:17:08.000 On DAZN. Beautiful.
00:17:10.000 It's so nice.
00:17:10.000 You can just watch it on an app.
00:17:12.000 Yeah, real quick, real fast.
00:17:13.000 Watch it on your phone, watch it on a laptop.
00:17:15.000 And when you see the rest of the heavyweight division, I mean, what a crazy, exciting time for boxing.
00:17:21.000 Boxing comes in these waves, right?
00:17:23.000 Where there's waves of awesome shit happening.
00:17:26.000 Right now it's a hot wave.
00:17:28.000 Canelo's hot.
00:17:30.000 Manny just won the title at 40 years old.
00:17:33.000 Triple G and Canelo, they're talking about having another fight.
00:17:36.000 It's so amazing right now.
00:17:38.000 It's like boxing is on fire.
00:17:40.000 It is.
00:17:42.000 I'm just blessed being there in the top ten and having the unified heavyweight champions.
00:17:49.000 But, you know, I'm willing to fight anybody.
00:17:51.000 As soon as I win the rematch, I'm willing to fight Tyson Fury, Wilder, or anybody, you know?
00:17:59.000 Listen, there's never been a time that I can recall where there's four legitimate heavyweight champions that everybody thinks of.
00:18:08.000 Anthony Joshua could have been the man.
00:18:10.000 You know, Tyson Fury could be the man.
00:18:13.000 Wilder could be the man.
00:18:14.000 You could be the man.
00:18:15.000 Who's the fucking man?
00:18:16.000 It's like, no one knows.
00:18:18.000 It's not like during the Tyson era, it was like Tyson and everybody else was just waiting to get murked.
00:18:24.000 You know?
00:18:24.000 Like, there's been times where there was a standout fighter, but...
00:18:29.000 When Joshua beat Klitschko, it was apparent that Joshua was the guy.
00:18:34.000 But then as Wilder started piling up bodies, it was like, damn, maybe Wilder's the guy.
00:18:39.000 And then Tyson Fury comes back.
00:18:42.000 A lot of people had written Tyson Fury off.
00:18:44.000 After the Klitschko fight, they were like, you know, he kind of went crazy, almost committed suicide, had all these mental health problems, and now he seems super happy and healthy.
00:18:54.000 And so it's this incredible, incredible time for boxing where you have, like, in terms of star power and in terms of, like, the public interest, I can't recall a time in my life where there's been four dudes who were at the top of the heap like this.
00:19:08.000 Mm-hmm.
00:19:09.000 Yeah, Tyson Fury's a good guy too.
00:19:12.000 I love his personality, his energy.
00:19:15.000 I want to see that fight again, Wilder and Fury.
00:19:19.000 I think that was a really good fight.
00:19:21.000 I think it was really close.
00:19:22.000 If Wilder wouldn't have knocked him down in the last round, I think Tyson Fury was winning in my eyes.
00:19:27.000 I think so too, and I think you could make an argument that he still won, even though he got knocked down twice in the fight.
00:19:34.000 Yeah, you make a good argument that he still won the decision.
00:19:37.000 I know a lot of people think he did, but I didn't have a problem with the decision just because...
00:19:42.000 Of the action?
00:19:44.000 Yeah.
00:19:44.000 And the way Wilder knocked him down in that final round.
00:19:47.000 What the fuck?
00:19:48.000 How did he get up?
00:19:50.000 That was what was crazy.
00:19:51.000 When Wilder threw his thumb across his throat and he thought, fuck, it's over.
00:19:56.000 And he's shaking his hips like he thought it was over.
00:19:58.000 And then Tyson Fury just rises from the dead like a fucking zombie.
00:20:02.000 It's just...
00:20:03.000 It's crazy, man, in the heavyweight division, you know, it only takes one punch to change the whole game, the whole fight, you know, and that's the beauty of it.
00:20:12.000 It is the beauty of it.
00:20:13.000 Now, what is it like getting accustomed to all this recognition?
00:20:18.000 Now I know you got this new ice, you got an AR hanging from your neck.
00:20:22.000 Spend a little of that heavyweight championship money.
00:20:25.000 My old jeweler.
00:20:26.000 Your whole life has shifted.
00:20:29.000 What does that feel like?
00:20:31.000 It feels good.
00:20:32.000 Just getting the stuff that I always wanted.
00:20:34.000 Seeing a lot of famous people having nice stuff.
00:20:39.000 Thanks to God, now I can just get it for myself and for my family, for my kids, my mom.
00:20:44.000 What kind of car are you driving now?
00:20:46.000 I have a Rolls Royce outside.
00:20:50.000 Dude, you stepped right up.
00:20:51.000 You didn't even fuck around.
00:20:53.000 You didn't even try a BMW first.
00:20:55.000 No, I already had that before.
00:20:58.000 What were you driving before you won the title?
00:21:00.000 I had a Porsche.
00:21:01.000 I had a Porsche Panamera.
00:21:02.000 Oh, those are nice.
00:21:03.000 But it's not a Rolls-Royce.
00:21:04.000 No.
00:21:05.000 Rolls-Royce is a king car.
00:21:06.000 You know what?
00:21:07.000 The car that I love right now and I bought for my fiancee, Julie, it's the new G-Wagons, the 2019s.
00:21:14.000 It's so beautiful, man.
00:21:15.000 Those are the shit.
00:21:16.000 Yeah, my wife has one of those.
00:21:18.000 They're the shit.
00:21:18.000 She's lucky.
00:21:19.000 Those are dope, man.
00:21:20.000 It's a crazy car.
00:21:21.000 They redesigned it.
00:21:23.000 They made it so that the old ones, they had that old truck suspension with the live rear and front axles, and it was kind of bumpy and shit.
00:21:32.000 I love it, man.
00:21:33.000 When you move it, when the car moves, the seats hug you.
00:21:37.000 That's a tank, too.
00:21:39.000 Those doors weigh a thousand pounds.
00:21:41.000 It's crazy.
00:21:41.000 When you shut those things, it's like a bank vault.
00:21:44.000 But there's something about a Rolls Royce, man.
00:21:47.000 That's like a suitable car for a champ.
00:21:50.000 That's my dream car, man.
00:21:51.000 My dream car.
00:21:52.000 I even had pictures.
00:21:54.000 Before I was even nothing, I used to have pictures on my wall of all the cars that I wanted.
00:22:00.000 A Lamborghini, Rolls Royce.
00:22:01.000 Just dreaming big.
00:22:03.000 And that's what I tell a lot of these kids, man.
00:22:05.000 Just dream big.
00:22:06.000 Have...
00:22:07.000 Write something that you want in life and just keep praying for it.
00:22:12.000 Keep wishing for it and it will come true.
00:22:14.000 You work hard.
00:22:15.000 Yeah, if you work hard.
00:22:16.000 Some people just want to wish.
00:22:18.000 They got to work hard.
00:22:19.000 There's a lot of shit involved.
00:22:21.000 Do you use any sort of a sports psychologist or anything like that?
00:22:25.000 No, not really.
00:22:27.000 Just motivation, my kids.
00:22:33.000 A person that wants to do better is going to do better.
00:22:35.000 Right.
00:22:36.000 And so when you are preparing for a fight, do you ever have moments where you, you know, you find yourself feeling down or you find yourself not in a good mental place?
00:22:50.000 Nah, there's a lot of times like that, you know, because I'm missing home.
00:22:53.000 I'm like, man, I want to go with my kids.
00:22:55.000 I want to...
00:22:56.000 Go with my girl.
00:22:57.000 Oh, I'm mad, man.
00:22:59.000 I haven't fucked or nothing, so I'm fucking angry and stuff like that.
00:23:05.000 That's what a lot of boxers go through because this is a lonely sport.
00:23:09.000 This is a one-man sport.
00:23:12.000 You got to do everything on your own.
00:23:13.000 Not on your own, but when you go to the gym, you have your team.
00:23:17.000 After the gym is what you do.
00:23:19.000 I usually just rest, watch movies, try to get a show, find a show, just relax.
00:23:26.000 Just chill out.
00:23:27.000 Do you get regular massage or anything?
00:23:29.000 Yep, I get massages from AR therapy.
00:23:33.000 From LA, he hooks it up.
00:23:36.000 When I'm in camp, I'll get one two times a week, three times.
00:23:40.000 So basically it's normal stuff, just normal strength conditioning, food.
00:23:45.000 It's the grind of camp is something that boxers always complain about.
00:23:50.000 It's like the one thing is just the day in, day out, just hard work constantly.
00:23:56.000 You know what sucks for a lot of the fighters, too, is going in there and, you know, your coach wants to weigh you after training every fucking time.
00:24:05.000 And you're like, man...
00:24:07.000 It's crazy, but you know just working hard it's it's it's everything's in a payoff.
00:24:12.000 What do they like to keep you at?
00:24:14.000 Like what weight do they like to keep you at?
00:24:15.000 I think like at 255, 250. That's where you feel like you're at your best.
00:24:20.000 I'm at my best at 255, 250, but I gained to what did I weigh like 267 for Joshua.
00:24:28.000 Really?
00:24:28.000 On purpose?
00:24:29.000 Just because you're so big?
00:24:30.000 Yeah.
00:24:31.000 It kind of worked out.
00:24:32.000 It definitely worked out.
00:24:33.000 What did you do differently?
00:24:36.000 Nothing.
00:24:36.000 More quesadillas?
00:24:37.000 No.
00:24:38.000 I ate good, just more portion.
00:24:40.000 A little bit more portion.
00:24:43.000 I was just happy through all this camp.
00:24:45.000 I was just focused, motivated.
00:24:47.000 I kept telling everybody that I'm going to win, that I'm going to pull out the upset.
00:24:51.000 Just having those good vibes inside you.
00:24:55.000 And a fun camp.
00:24:56.000 It was fun.
00:24:57.000 I enjoyed the camp a lot.
00:24:59.000 The only thing that people worry about when someone finds success, and obviously Tyson is the best example of it because he's documented in his documentary and he talks about it all the time, was how things got out of control once he became famous.
00:25:14.000 Things just went off the rails and he just lost his fucking mind.
00:25:18.000 How do you prevent that from happening to Andy Ruiz?
00:25:22.000 I think just having the right people around you, you know, having the right people around you that want to do good and want you to do good, you know, bring you good opportunities, you know, stuff like that.
00:25:33.000 And, you know, I'm a family man.
00:25:35.000 I'm always with my kids, with my fiancés, so that's one of the big blessings that I have.
00:25:40.000 And if that would have happened, I think my dad will...
00:25:44.000 Grabbed me by the throat, like, what the fuck are you doing?
00:25:46.000 He's always on me, so...
00:25:48.000 Well, you seem like a real down-to-earth guy, which helps a lot.
00:25:51.000 You know, I mean, that really does.
00:25:53.000 It's the dudes that have feelings.
00:25:56.000 Like, sometimes the ego is what gets you to the dance, because you believe you are the baddest motherfucker of all time.
00:26:02.000 But then, once you are there, and the challenge is met, then there's no other challenges in front of you, like with Tyson, and each fight is kind of like a done deal before it happens, and you just start getting tigers and doing crazy shit, you know?
00:26:18.000 Wrestling with tigers?
00:26:19.000 Nah, um...
00:26:21.000 I think the main thing is just remain humble, you know.
00:26:24.000 I was praying for this opportunity for so long, so I'm still going to continue to keep praying and thanking God for all these big blessings that He gave me and, you know, just continue to work hard and enjoy my family to the fullest.
00:26:38.000 And you got a good crew of dudes with you too, you can tell.
00:26:40.000 I know, you're saying that's the biggest entourage that I had.
00:26:43.000 The biggest entourage everybody's ever brought in here.
00:26:46.000 I never rode with a lot of entourage, you know.
00:26:48.000 Really?
00:26:48.000 Just with a few of my best friends, you know, close friends that were from high school and some of my cousins.
00:26:55.000 That's awesome.
00:26:55.000 Stuff like that.
00:26:56.000 Just family.
00:26:56.000 People who know you.
00:26:57.000 Exactly.
00:26:57.000 Who actually know you from the beginning.
00:26:59.000 Now, this newfound celebrity, are they giving you...
00:27:04.000 There's other distractions that come your way, like movie-type offers and television shit.
00:27:10.000 You know what?
00:27:10.000 I did my first commercial for Sueto X. It's a Mexico brand.
00:27:16.000 What is it?
00:27:16.000 Sueto X. Sueto X? What is it?
00:27:19.000 It's a drink, you know, like...
00:27:22.000 Like Pedialyte, but it's a Mexican version, and it was fun, man.
00:27:27.000 It was really fun.
00:27:28.000 I love doing commercials.
00:27:30.000 Have you been to Mexico since you won?
00:27:31.000 I have.
00:27:32.000 Remember, I met the president of Mexico.
00:27:34.000 I went to Los Vinos, and that was amazing, man.
00:27:38.000 Andres Lopez, he's the president for Mexico.
00:27:40.000 Amazing guy.
00:27:41.000 Is it wild being in Mexico as the first ever Mexican Heavyweight Champion?
00:27:46.000 It was super wild.
00:27:47.000 So many fans, little kids, all types of people coming my way.
00:27:56.000 It's just crazy how they react.
00:27:59.000 They're screaming.
00:28:02.000 It's crazy, man.
00:28:03.000 That must be the wildest thing about this, is the shift in how people perceive you, versus just a few months ago.
00:28:10.000 And now, like, you're the fucking man.
00:28:14.000 It's weird, right?
00:28:16.000 It's crazy.
00:28:17.000 What goes on in your head while all this is happening?
00:28:22.000 This is just the beginning.
00:28:23.000 This is just the beginning.
00:28:26.000 I don't want to lose the title, so the main thing, I just got to stay focused and get prepared for the rematch because there's more work to be done.
00:28:36.000 I want to be the Mexican Rockies, so I want to continue to keep winning and defending all my titles.
00:28:43.000 That's beautiful.
00:28:44.000 Now, Joshua is the first fight, and so this will take place in December, and given if you win, who would you like to face next?
00:28:53.000 Because it looks like it's going to be a while before they can sort out Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.
00:28:59.000 Because of contractual shit.
00:29:02.000 When I win for the rematch, I would love to fight Tyson Fury, man.
00:29:09.000 I know Wilder's there too.
00:29:11.000 He has the belt that I want, you know?
00:29:13.000 Because I want the WBC belt.
00:29:15.000 Why do you want that belt?
00:29:16.000 Because I'll be undisputed if I have that belt.
00:29:19.000 I have all the belts in the heavyweight division and I'll be the new king.
00:29:25.000 So what do you have now?
00:29:26.000 You have WBA? I have the WBA, WBO, IBO, and IBF. Damn!
00:29:33.000 I know.
00:29:34.000 Damn!
00:29:35.000 That's crazy.
00:29:36.000 I should have brought them too, man.
00:29:37.000 Should have.
00:29:37.000 Do you have them laid out on your bed?
00:29:39.000 No, they're actually in my dad's house.
00:29:42.000 They're actually in my dad's house.
00:29:44.000 Must be bizarre just looking at them, right?
00:29:46.000 They are, man.
00:29:47.000 I was crying, man.
00:29:49.000 Like I said, I was still pinching myself for weeks.
00:29:52.000 I can only imagine.
00:29:53.000 I would imagine it's going to last years before it really, really, really sinks in.
00:29:58.000 So Tyson Fury seems to you to be like the best matchup after that.
00:30:03.000 Tyson Fury.
00:30:04.000 I think he's one of the biggest names out there.
00:30:07.000 I like Dylan White, too.
00:30:09.000 He was coming up, but he got caught up.
00:30:13.000 He pissed off.
00:30:13.000 What did he get caught with?
00:30:15.000 I don't know.
00:30:16.000 I think it was P.E.D. or something.
00:30:18.000 Some sort of performance-enhancing joke.
00:30:19.000 I don't know why they do that.
00:30:20.000 Why?
00:30:21.000 I know why.
00:30:22.000 They want to win.
00:30:23.000 Shit.
00:30:24.000 You don't need it, man.
00:30:25.000 Look at me.
00:30:26.000 It doesn't look like a fight taking anything.
00:30:29.000 It's just all natural.
00:30:31.000 Well, you're consistent, and even though you carry body fat, you're always in great shape.
00:30:37.000 You never have a problem with fatiguing your fights.
00:30:39.000 I have a six pack under my belly.
00:30:41.000 It's in there.
00:30:41.000 It's in there somewhere.
00:30:42.000 Yeah, I mean, that's deceptive.
00:30:44.000 There's quite a few fighters like that, that you look at them on the outside, and you can get real confused.
00:30:50.000 But you have always been consistent.
00:30:53.000 You had a consistent amateur career, a consistent professional career.
00:30:56.000 Some fighters, just like they...
00:30:58.000 Maybe they just feel like they need something else.
00:31:01.000 They just don't feel like they're doing enough and they want a shortcut.
00:31:06.000 It's usually a bad sign.
00:31:09.000 And in today's climate, there's VADA testing.
00:31:14.000 They're the best.
00:31:15.000 That was my first time getting tested by VADA and they're fucking strict.
00:31:20.000 They'll go look for you wherever you're at, at your house, at the gym, anywhere.
00:31:25.000 And they take blood out, piss out.
00:31:29.000 I liked it.
00:31:30.000 Yes.
00:31:31.000 I think it's the best way.
00:31:33.000 And USADA is what works with the UFC. Very similar.
00:31:36.000 Same sort of deal.
00:31:37.000 They wake you up at 6 o'clock in the morning.
00:31:38.000 Hey, buddy.
00:31:40.000 Time to find out what's up.
00:31:41.000 And they've caught a lot of people that way.
00:31:43.000 They've caught a lot of people.
00:31:44.000 And it's great.
00:31:45.000 It cleans up the sport.
00:31:48.000 This...
00:31:49.000 This is a dangerous, dangerous sport.
00:31:51.000 It is.
00:31:51.000 When people are taking things, there's a potential that they can hit you when they wouldn't be able to hit you without it.
00:31:57.000 I mean, this is something that we all want to avoid.
00:31:59.000 We all want to avoid anything that could pretend...
00:32:02.000 I mean, it's already a dangerous enough sport without...
00:32:05.000 Exactly.
00:32:05.000 We're already trying to kill each other and all that.
00:32:08.000 Yeah.
00:32:08.000 Yeah, so Dylan White is...
00:32:09.000 I mean, how long have they suspended him for?
00:32:12.000 I'm not sure.
00:32:12.000 I've seen it on Instagram, but...
00:32:14.000 You know, things happen, but...
00:32:17.000 You know, hopefully it gets clean, and...
00:32:19.000 Or we don't know what really happened, you know?
00:32:21.000 Maybe it was a team side that put something in it, or...
00:32:25.000 We don't know.
00:32:26.000 Yeah, it could be.
00:32:27.000 We catch this a lot with the UFC where guys buy a supplement at like a vitamin store and it's tainted.
00:32:33.000 Or even like a diet one, huh?
00:32:35.000 They bend that too.
00:32:37.000 Yeah, anything that has a diuretic or things along those lines.
00:32:40.000 It's a shame, but if they're not using Vata testing and they get caught, then they're just dumb.
00:32:50.000 That's why it's kind of scary, fighting over there at the UK. We don't know what they're going to be letting Anthony Joshua be taking or whatnot.
00:32:59.000 I don't know.
00:33:00.000 Do you think he takes some shit?
00:33:01.000 I don't know.
00:33:02.000 Tell you what, he looks like he does.
00:33:03.000 He does.
00:33:04.000 Looks perfect.
00:33:05.000 Looks like what you would think a movie fighter would look like.
00:33:10.000 He's built perfect.
00:33:13.000 He's got a perfect body.
00:33:14.000 You wouldn't want to change anything.
00:33:15.000 If you're making a sculpture, you're like, damn, it's perfect.
00:33:18.000 Nailed it.
00:33:20.000 I don't know if that's natural.
00:33:23.000 What do you think?
00:33:25.000 I don't know.
00:33:25.000 If he took something, you know, it didn't work.
00:33:29.000 If he doesn't use it for the next fight, I don't know.
00:33:33.000 Who knows how the body's going to react or if he doesn't have it.
00:33:36.000 Or maybe it reacted wrong when he wasn't using it when I fought him.
00:33:41.000 That's possible.
00:33:42.000 Who knows?
00:33:43.000 That's definitely happened before.
00:33:44.000 That's definitely happened before.
00:33:46.000 You know, you've seen fighters that look different because of stricter testing and then they don't perform the same way.
00:33:52.000 They have real problems.
00:33:53.000 And then also it's confidence.
00:33:55.000 If you know you've been cheating, and then all of a sudden they take away your secret weapon, and then you're like, I'm fine, I'm fine, but there's a little lingering doubt.
00:34:03.000 Yeah.
00:34:04.000 So you worried about that if the fight takes place in the UK? You know, somewhat, but it's not going to be over there, so...
00:34:11.000 He's never tested positive before, right?
00:34:13.000 He's never have, so...
00:34:14.000 You just gave up the ghost.
00:34:15.000 You said it's not going to be over there.
00:34:17.000 Mm-hmm.
00:34:17.000 So now people have narrowed it down.
00:34:19.000 There's 197 countries.
00:34:20.000 Now we know it's not going to be in England.
00:34:22.000 No, it's not.
00:34:23.000 Okay, 196. Yeah.
00:34:28.000 Yeah, in combat sports, I mean, it's always been a problem with performance-enhancing drugs.
00:34:33.000 Yeah, everybody's been using it.
00:34:35.000 A lot of champions, you know, from the heavyweight division, too.
00:34:38.000 Sure.
00:34:39.000 A lot of people.
00:34:40.000 Yeah.
00:34:41.000 But, I don't know.
00:34:43.000 I don't want to try it.
00:34:44.000 I don't want to get caught up.
00:34:45.000 Well, it's beautiful that you haven't had it, and you can take pride that everything that you've accomplished is from hard work and intelligence.
00:34:52.000 Yeah, true of that.
00:34:53.000 So, when you look at the landscape of boxing, I mean, right now, what fights are exciting for you?
00:35:00.000 I want to see that Pacquiao and...
00:35:03.000 What's his name?
00:35:05.000 Thurman?
00:35:06.000 No.
00:35:12.000 The guy that fought Manny...
00:35:15.000 Mikey Garcia.
00:35:17.000 Oh, Earl Spence?
00:35:18.000 Yeah, Earl Spence Jr. He's a bad motherfucker.
00:35:22.000 To shut down Garcia like that?
00:35:24.000 Garcia's a bad motherfucker.
00:35:26.000 He was.
00:35:26.000 I was over there in Vegas with him.
00:35:28.000 That was funny.
00:35:29.000 Well, when Garcia...
00:35:30.000 Look, I give it up to Garcia because after that fight he's like, that guy's the truth.
00:35:33.000 That guy's the real deal.
00:35:34.000 You know, that's beautiful when a guy doesn't make excuses and says, hey man, that guy's...
00:35:39.000 Everybody knew Errol Spence is a bad motherfucker, though.
00:35:43.000 I mean, there was no surprise.
00:35:44.000 I think once you have him fight the really elite fighters, I think that's when all his talents is in the show.
00:35:50.000 Oh, sure.
00:35:51.000 Yeah.
00:35:51.000 I mean, it's such a great time for boxing.
00:35:54.000 But Errol Spence Jr. versus Manny Pacquiao would be incredible.
00:35:57.000 Yeah, they're working on it.
00:35:58.000 Is that what they're working on?
00:35:59.000 I thought they were working on a rematch with Thurman.
00:36:01.000 I don't think so.
00:36:02.000 No?
00:36:02.000 I don't...
00:36:03.000 Who wants to see that?
00:36:05.000 Who wants to see that?
00:36:06.000 You don't want to see it?
00:36:07.000 I think Pacquiao beat his ass.
00:36:09.000 You think so?
00:36:09.000 Yeah.
00:36:10.000 It was crazy when he knocked him down in the first round.
00:36:12.000 I was like, wow!
00:36:13.000 I think he got too confident.
00:36:15.000 I think Manny Pacquiao got too confident.
00:36:16.000 He got hit with punches that he shouldn't have.
00:36:19.000 I don't know.
00:36:21.000 I think Thurman was just surviving the whole time.
00:36:23.000 But either way, he was connecting really good shots.
00:36:25.000 He connected with good shots, and he hits hard.
00:36:28.000 The crazy thing is Manny is the oldest ever guy to win the welterweight title.
00:36:32.000 40 years old.
00:36:33.000 He's won titles in how many different weight classes now?
00:36:36.000 It's more than 8. Like 12, I don't know.
00:36:39.000 Something, but it's like more than 8 different weight classes, which is nuts.
00:36:44.000 Like, who the fuck does that?
00:36:45.000 And then maintains his power all the way through.
00:36:48.000 He just takes care of himself, you know?
00:36:50.000 Amazing.
00:36:51.000 I am white rice.
00:36:52.000 It's something.
00:36:53.000 Whatever he's doing in the Philippines.
00:36:54.000 It's amazing.
00:36:55.000 But, yeah, that's a great fight.
00:36:57.000 And then there's Mayweather, who shows up at that fight and is talking shit.
00:37:02.000 I think that would be a good fight, too, against Manny Pacquiao and Mayweather.
00:37:06.000 I'll watch it.
00:37:07.000 Apparently, according to Khabib Nurmagomedov, Khabib Nurmagomedov is the UFC lightweight champion.
00:37:12.000 Bad Russian motherfucker.
00:37:14.000 He's saying that Floyd Mayweather's people have been trying to get him to box him.
00:37:19.000 That's crazy.
00:37:20.000 Well, Floyd made that easy money off Conor McGregor.
00:37:23.000 That's crazy.
00:37:24.000 I like Conor McGregor, too.
00:37:25.000 I do, too?
00:37:26.000 Mm-hmm.
00:37:27.000 I mean, it was a crazy...
00:37:29.000 Well, Floyd played that perfectly, too.
00:37:30.000 He only gave Conor, like, six weeks to prepare.
00:37:33.000 You know, he took the lion's share of the money but gave Conor a shitload.
00:37:37.000 He made a lot of money off that fight.
00:37:39.000 Yeah, man, whether it's smart, man.
00:37:41.000 Like I said, having the right people with you and that gives you good opportunities.
00:37:46.000 Those are the right people you want around you.
00:37:49.000 Now, when you were coming up, who were you influenced by?
00:37:52.000 Like, who were you a big fan of?
00:37:55.000 Of Chavez, you know, all the Mexican fighters, Morales, Barrera.
00:37:59.000 I got to meet Barrera.
00:38:01.000 It was my first time.
00:38:02.000 It was a good honor over there at the Pacquiao fight.
00:38:06.000 You know, Mike Tyson, you know, all the big guys, all the Mexican guys as well, too.
00:38:12.000 Yeah, so you're 29, so when you were first starting out, who was big?
00:38:19.000 Fernando Vargas.
00:38:20.000 He was my favorite fighter, man.
00:38:22.000 I hung out with Fernando on a plane once.
00:38:25.000 I used to have the same haircut as him.
00:38:28.000 I painted my hair.
00:38:30.000 That was crazy.
00:38:31.000 Yeah, no, he was a bad motherfucker.
00:38:32.000 He was a lot of fun to watch.
00:38:34.000 He had some...
00:38:36.000 Reality show he was doing for a while, too, right?
00:38:37.000 Yeah, he was doing it with him and his family.
00:38:39.000 What is he doing now?
00:38:40.000 Do you know?
00:38:41.000 He's training fighters.
00:38:42.000 Oh, is he?
00:38:42.000 And his kids, too.
00:38:43.000 They're really talented.
00:38:45.000 Where at?
00:38:45.000 In Vegas.
00:38:46.000 Oh, okay.
00:38:47.000 They're in Vegas, yeah.
00:38:48.000 Nice, nice.
00:38:49.000 Really good people.
00:38:50.000 Nice guys.
00:38:52.000 Oscar De La Hoya, are you a fan of his?
00:38:54.000 Yep, Oscar De La Hoya too.
00:38:56.000 I mean, there's so many great Mexican fighters.
00:38:58.000 If you think about one country that produced amazing boxers, I mean, Mexico might be the top of the heap.
00:39:05.000 I mean, if you really stop and think about it.
00:39:07.000 I think we're missing one champion.
00:39:09.000 I think we have champions in all the divisions except for one, I think.
00:39:13.000 Light heavyweight, maybe?
00:39:14.000 Probably.
00:39:15.000 Cruiserweight?
00:39:16.000 Cruiserweight.
00:39:16.000 I think so, but you know what?
00:39:18.000 At least we got the first Mexican heavyweight champion.
00:39:21.000 Yeah.
00:39:22.000 How does it feel, man?
00:39:23.000 Does it feel crazy?
00:39:24.000 It feels good, you know?
00:39:25.000 Just by saying I'm going to be in the records, you know?
00:39:30.000 Hopefully nobody forgets my name, but, you know, there's always going to be the first Mexican heavyweight champion of the world.
00:39:36.000 Especially for my kids, you know, for them to look up and be like, wow.
00:39:39.000 Forever.
00:39:39.000 Yeah, my daddy can kick your daddy's ass.
00:39:43.000 It would be number one.
00:39:44.000 I mean, you're the first ever.
00:39:45.000 There's no one ever can take that from you.
00:39:47.000 That's it forever.
00:39:48.000 That's a blessing, man.
00:39:49.000 You're in the books.
00:39:49.000 That's what I've been working for for so long, you know, my dad pushing me, embarrassing me with my friends.
00:39:56.000 How do you embarrass me?
00:39:57.000 Just by kicking me out, by telling me, come on, we have to go train, get the fuck out of there.
00:40:03.000 I don't know.
00:40:04.000 It's crazy, man.
00:40:06.000 My dad's always been there behind me, so I don't think I would have been in this position if he wasn't in the role of all this.
00:40:12.000 Is your dad a boxer?
00:40:13.000 No, but his dad used to train fighters in Mexicali a long time ago.
00:40:19.000 I never got to meet him.
00:40:20.000 And he never boxed himself?
00:40:22.000 No, he was just in the streets.
00:40:24.000 Did he train?
00:40:24.000 No, he was just seeing his dad train other guys.
00:40:28.000 I didn't think he had the discipline.
00:40:30.000 I think he was more like a hustler, basically.
00:40:33.000 So, what was his thought when you first started fighting?
00:40:37.000 Well, he's the one who put me into it because the destroyer, I used to destroy everything, all the toys, my mom's stuff, everything.
00:40:48.000 So I had so much energy as a little kid.
00:40:50.000 He just took me to my first thing was karate.
00:40:53.000 I tried karate.
00:40:54.000 I was six years old.
00:40:56.000 Didn't like it.
00:40:57.000 It took too long for action or whatnot, and he put me into boxing.
00:41:01.000 I was six years old, and what do you know?
00:41:04.000 I fell in love with the sport.
00:41:05.000 So what do you mean by it took too long for action?
00:41:08.000 I think we were practicing too much or something.
00:41:11.000 Oh, like katas and shit like that?
00:41:13.000 Yeah, I think so.
00:41:13.000 Kicking in the air?
00:41:14.000 In the first two weeks when I went to a boxing gym, they made me spar and they kicked...
00:41:18.000 Kicked the shit out of me, man.
00:41:20.000 They beat me up.
00:41:21.000 When you were seven?
00:41:22.000 No, I was six and a half.
00:41:23.000 You remember?
00:41:24.000 Because I trained a whole year.
00:41:25.000 Right.
00:41:27.000 They beat me up.
00:41:28.000 They put me to spar my first time.
00:41:30.000 And I was bleeding.
00:41:31.000 And I told my dad, you know what?
00:41:32.000 I don't want to fight no more.
00:41:33.000 He's like, what do you mean?
00:41:34.000 You just got to keep training.
00:41:35.000 And you're going to end up beating everyone up.
00:41:37.000 And what do you know?
00:41:37.000 A year later...
00:41:38.000 I end up beating everyone up.
00:41:40.000 So your nickname came from you fucking things up as a kid?
00:41:44.000 From fucking things up, destroying things.
00:41:46.000 I could never have a toy or even like the Game Boy or anything for like more than a week or something because I would end up breaking it.
00:41:55.000 So did your parents give you that nickname?
00:41:57.000 Yeah.
00:41:58.000 That's hilarious.
00:41:59.000 Uh-huh.
00:42:00.000 What a great nickname, then.
00:42:01.000 Because it seems like a tough guy nickname, but then when you find out it's because you were a little kid and you would break your toys, that makes it even better.
00:42:08.000 Not just toys, but everything.
00:42:11.000 Classes.
00:42:12.000 I don't know.
00:42:13.000 It was crazy.
00:42:14.000 So it must be wild for your dad to see you come up from a six-year-old kid, and because of his pushing you and trying to keep you in there, that you eventually start excelling and winning amateur fight after amateur fight, and then...
00:42:29.000 He's really happy, man.
00:42:30.000 He's really happy.
00:42:34.000 Like I said, he's really happy.
00:42:36.000 He's really blessed.
00:42:37.000 He's over here and over there, just enjoying life as well.
00:42:40.000 Now, when you were coming up, was there a fighter whose style you tried to emulate?
00:42:44.000 Was there anyone that really stood out for you?
00:42:46.000 You know, I sparred a lot of guys, and all of them tell me that I have my own type of style.
00:42:51.000 They tell me that I have a calm, different style than everyone else, and I like that.
00:42:58.000 Well, that is one of the beautiful things about boxing and all martial arts.
00:43:03.000 There's a lot of people that don't like that term, martial arts, because they don't think it's really an art.
00:43:07.000 But it is an art.
00:43:08.000 I think it's harder, man.
00:43:10.000 From being in the ground and fighting up, it's a lot of things you have to learn.
00:43:15.000 Oh, for mixed martial arts?
00:43:16.000 Yeah.
00:43:16.000 But I mean, even boxing is a martial art.
00:43:18.000 And what I mean is that...
00:43:19.000 Like, the way you knocked out Joshua, that was beautiful.
00:43:22.000 It was beautiful.
00:43:24.000 For a person like me, who loves boxing, it was art.
00:43:28.000 Like, you expressed yourself in art.
00:43:31.000 I mean, that's no different than a badass movie or a rap song or a symphony.
00:43:37.000 It's art.
00:43:38.000 It's just art with your fists.
00:43:40.000 And, you know, I mean, you saw, I'm sure you saw that video that I posted up on my Instagram.
00:43:44.000 Who was the guy that made that video?
00:43:46.000 That video where he hits Josh when Josh's soul leaves his body?
00:43:49.000 Ray Rod.
00:43:50.000 Oh, and he goes on the airplane, huh?
00:43:52.000 That was funny, man.
00:43:53.000 That guy's amazing!
00:43:55.000 Ray Rod, 5'4".
00:43:57.000 What is it?
00:43:58.000 5'4 what?
00:43:59.000 5'4".
00:43:59.000 We're going to find out his Instagram and give him some props.
00:44:04.000 Rayrod747.
00:44:04.000 Put that up so we can watch that again.
00:44:06.000 That guy is a goddamn genius.
00:44:08.000 He didn't just do it with that.
00:44:10.000 He did it with Deontay vs.
00:44:11.000 Brazil.
00:44:12.000 He gave him Thanos' power fist.
00:44:15.000 This guy does amazing animation.
00:44:18.000 This one's not on, Jamie.
00:44:21.000 The guy does amazing animation.
00:44:24.000 I mean, I don't even know how the fuck he does something like that on what program.
00:44:28.000 But...
00:44:28.000 This was my favorite.
00:44:29.000 Play this, Jamie.
00:44:34.000 Boom!
00:44:36.000 Look at that!
00:44:37.000 When you see the soul just leaves his body.
00:44:40.000 A blue soul.
00:44:42.000 He gets the roller bag.
00:44:43.000 He's on the escalator.
00:44:46.000 He gets on the plane and little Tweety birds are flying around his head.
00:44:49.000 That is hilarious, man.
00:44:51.000 That guy is a goddamn genius.
00:44:53.000 Rayrod747.
00:44:55.000 Thanks a lot, buddy.
00:44:56.000 No, he's genius.
00:44:57.000 How many millions of views did that shit get?
00:45:00.000 Well, I think you reposted it and it got a lot more views than on his page.
00:45:04.000 His got like 735,000, but on mine it was millions.
00:45:11.000 Yeah, no, it's crazy.
00:45:12.000 He does a lot of great shit in MMA and in boxing.
00:45:16.000 There's been a lot of that, right?
00:45:17.000 A lot of memes.
00:45:18.000 Yeah, I like that, you know, and now they have my own one, so it's amazing.
00:45:23.000 They have your own one what?
00:45:24.000 Like the memes that they put.
00:45:28.000 Of me hitting Anthony Joshua, you know, stuff like that.
00:45:31.000 Yeah.
00:45:32.000 Having me there and looking at it, I'm just like, wow, man.
00:45:35.000 That's crazy.
00:45:36.000 Yeah, wild, right?
00:45:37.000 Yeah.
00:45:38.000 So, you didn't emulate anybody when you were coming up?
00:45:42.000 Is it not like Chavez or Barrera or anybody that you tried to imitate their style or Tyson?
00:45:47.000 Yeah, of course, like Tyson.
00:45:48.000 Everybody wants to knock everybody.
00:45:50.000 I like Tyson and Chavez always going to the body.
00:45:55.000 I'm one of the heavyweights.
00:45:56.000 I like to hit the body a lot, you know?
00:45:58.000 Get them tired.
00:46:01.000 But like I said, I think I have my own style, you know?
00:46:04.000 I like my style.
00:46:06.000 Have you had the same trainer your entire life?
00:46:08.000 No, I went through.
00:46:10.000 I learned from a lot of different trainers.
00:46:12.000 You know, my first real professional trainer was Freddie Roach.
00:46:15.000 Oh, really?
00:46:16.000 Yeah, that's when I met Manny Pacquiao.
00:46:17.000 I love Freddie.
00:46:18.000 Freddie, me too.
00:46:19.000 Such a great guy.
00:46:20.000 Freddie helped me out through my whole professional career until like my 10th or 12th fight.
00:46:27.000 He had me, so I learned a lot from him.
00:46:29.000 Why did you stop training with them?
00:46:31.000 They sent me to Las Vegas.
00:46:33.000 Top rank sent me over there.
00:46:37.000 Who were you training with over there?
00:46:39.000 Jeff Grimoja.
00:46:41.000 Some big guy was training me over there.
00:46:43.000 Then we moved from there.
00:46:45.000 We went to Abel Sanchez when I fought for the world title for the WBO against Joseph Parker.
00:46:51.000 So you were up in Big Bear with Abel?
00:46:53.000 I was in Big Bear for, I think for like a month and a half.
00:46:57.000 So the Joseph Parker fight was the only fight you've lost and it was a close decision.
00:47:01.000 Exactly.
00:47:02.000 What was your thoughts on that fight?
00:47:04.000 You know, I trained myself for that fight.
00:47:06.000 A lot of people don't know the training camp that we had.
00:47:10.000 Abel Sanchez had like eight different fighters fighting at that same time, so he was always flying out.
00:47:15.000 So he'll just leave us a piece of paper and be like, you know what, you guys do this, do that.
00:47:19.000 And on our own, you know?
00:47:20.000 That's crazy.
00:47:21.000 It kind of sucked.
00:47:22.000 Why did he do that?
00:47:25.000 He has an obligation to go to the other fights.
00:47:28.000 Spread himself too thin.
00:47:29.000 Yeah.
00:47:29.000 That sucks!
00:47:31.000 I'm a fan of Abel Sanchez, too.
00:47:33.000 He's a bad motherfucker.
00:47:34.000 Yeah, he sure is.
00:47:35.000 I appreciate everything that he's done for me.
00:47:37.000 So knowledgeable.
00:47:38.000 But for that fight, I think I needed the right trainer.
00:47:41.000 And moving with Manny Robles and Estreita, it was the best thing I could have done.
00:47:46.000 Because those guys are really on me.
00:47:48.000 Just two guys just pushing you.
00:47:50.000 One telling you this, one telling you that.
00:47:53.000 It's just good.
00:47:54.000 It keeps you focused.
00:47:56.000 So when Abel was training you and you were training by yourself, you were up there in Big Bear training by yourself.
00:48:02.000 Were you going nuts?
00:48:03.000 I was going hella nuts, man.
00:48:05.000 What the fuck am I doing up here?
00:48:06.000 There ain't shit to do.
00:48:07.000 There's like one movie theater.
00:48:09.000 I was going back and forth from my hometown, you know, because I live in Imperial Valley.
00:48:12.000 I live like...
00:48:13.000 So that's like four hours, right?
00:48:14.000 Like three hours from Big Bear.
00:48:17.000 And I was just going back and forth, and I wasn't really focused for that fight, you know?
00:48:21.000 So, a lot of people don't know that.
00:48:24.000 Did you fight Parker in the UK? No, I fought him in New Zealand.
00:48:28.000 Oh, wow.
00:48:29.000 New Zealand.
00:48:29.000 And his hometown, too.
00:48:30.000 Oh, wow.
00:48:32.000 So, I think if I would have been over here with Manny Robles, I definitely would have won.
00:48:36.000 Well, it was a close fight.
00:48:37.000 It was a good fight.
00:48:38.000 When you think about what went wrong, I mean, it's always so important for a fighter to experience a loss.
00:48:47.000 Because a loss sort of lets you know, like, hey man, you don't want this feeling.
00:48:52.000 I didn't want to lose no more.
00:48:54.000 That's when everything went down and me having problems with top rank and them not letting me go and Al Heyman helping me out.
00:49:05.000 Al Heyman is the man.
00:49:06.000 He's the man right now and he helped me out through everything to get me out of the situation.
00:49:13.000 And giving me this opportunity.
00:49:15.000 So, top rank, did they make you train with Abel?
00:49:19.000 How did that set up?
00:49:20.000 Yeah, we ended up going over there with Abel Sanchez.
00:49:23.000 It was a good idea at first, but we didn't know it was going to be like that.
00:49:28.000 Right, because he's just got too many finers, too many obligations.
00:49:32.000 And Triple G wound up leaving him as well, right?
00:49:34.000 Yeah, Triple G went with...
00:49:36.000 Jacobs, Anthony Jacobs or something like that.
00:49:42.000 Triple G is a good fighter.
00:49:43.000 I've seen him over there at the fights too.
00:49:45.000 He's amazing.
00:49:46.000 We're good friends.
00:49:47.000 No, he's amazing.
00:49:49.000 I'm really interested to see his rematch if they try to do a rubber match.
00:49:54.000 He's strong, man.
00:49:55.000 Me and him wrestled over there in Big Bear.
00:49:57.000 You were wrestling?
00:49:57.000 Literally wrestling and this guy picked me up and Geez, he's strong.
00:50:02.000 Dude, those Russians are a different kind of human.
00:50:04.000 Yeah, they're strong, man.
00:50:05.000 They're built different.
00:50:06.000 They got different tendons or something.
00:50:08.000 Something, but he's strong.
00:50:09.000 No, he is a bad motherfucker.
00:50:11.000 He's a really friendly guy, too.
00:50:13.000 He's always smiling and shit.
00:50:14.000 He's humble.
00:50:15.000 I get along with him really good.
00:50:17.000 We're over there going crazy together.
00:50:19.000 Why were you wrestling?
00:50:20.000 It was just something that, some drill to warm up and grabbing our fists by, I mean our hands, like shaking our hands to get strength in our forearms.
00:50:33.000 Shaking your hands to get strength?
00:50:35.000 Yeah, it was like, can we do it?
00:50:37.000 Sure.
00:50:37.000 Oh, just squeezing?
00:50:40.000 Yeah, we get like cramps right here.
00:50:42.000 Really?
00:50:43.000 Yeah, his forearm's fucking big too.
00:50:45.000 Oh, I'm sure.
00:50:45.000 He's strong.
00:50:46.000 But why not do a wrist roll or something like that?
00:50:48.000 We do that one too, but I guess, I don't know, that's how we're doing it.
00:50:51.000 Just their style of doing it?
00:50:52.000 Picking each other up and how weird is this shit?
00:50:56.000 So was Abel Sanchez gone with him too, or was he focusing on Triple G? No, Triple G was in training at that time.
00:51:02.000 He had different other fighters.
00:51:04.000 He had to go.
00:51:05.000 Oh, okay.
00:51:05.000 So he was just in camp.
00:51:07.000 Mm-hmm.
00:51:07.000 So then you left Abel Sanchez and now you're training with?
00:51:11.000 With Manny Robles and Estreita at the Legends Boxing Gym in Norwalk.
00:51:16.000 So that is where you feel like is your best fit?
00:51:19.000 Yeah, that's comfortable right there, you know.
00:51:21.000 The gym is beautiful, the facility is really big, you have everything that you need.
00:51:26.000 For the Reese Joshua 2, the training camp is going to be in the mountains somewhere, private, so we can just focus and get ready for the next fight.
00:51:37.000 So you're going to do it in Mexico, right?
00:51:39.000 I'm going to do it in Mexico.
00:51:40.000 Nice.
00:51:41.000 Did you like training at altitude at Big Bear?
00:51:43.000 Was that the first time you had trained at altitude?
00:51:45.000 No, I went there a few times, and I like it.
00:51:48.000 The first few weeks is hard.
00:51:50.000 It's really hard.
00:51:51.000 You get tired fast.
00:51:55.000 But I did like it.
00:51:56.000 But when you come back down to sea level, you feel the benefit?
00:52:00.000 I feel the benefit.
00:52:02.000 I could last more, you know, more oxygen in your body, your brain.
00:52:07.000 Yeah, for sure.
00:52:08.000 Now, when you go to Mexico, do you know what altitude you're going to be up up there?
00:52:11.000 It's going to be high in altitude, too.
00:52:13.000 Because there's a point of diminishing returns.
00:52:15.000 People feel like once you get above 6,000, 7,000, 8,000, the idea is that you can't work hard enough because there's just not enough air.
00:52:22.000 They think that 5,000 is the perfect line.
00:52:28.000 People have had different philosophies when it comes to training at altitude, and now many people feel like you should actually live at altitude, but you should train at sea level.
00:52:38.000 Because they think that when you train at sea level, you could put out more output, you could do more work, and then you go and live up at altitude so your body acclimates to the low oxygen and you develop more red blood cells.
00:52:51.000 That makes sense.
00:52:52.000 Yeah.
00:52:52.000 So have you thought about doing something like that?
00:52:54.000 I don't know.
00:52:54.000 Or are you just going to stay up there?
00:52:55.000 Yeah, I'm just going to stay up there just for a few months, you know, and a few months and come back down, finish it up, finish the camp for like a month and go where I'm going to fight that I can't say.
00:53:07.000 Well, you're in such a great position, man.
00:53:09.000 Thank you.
00:53:09.000 And you're only 29 years old, so your athletic prime, particularly as a heavyweight, is like three or four years away from your prime, which is really crazy.
00:53:19.000 And that's a good thing.
00:53:20.000 I'm still young.
00:53:21.000 I never had big wars.
00:53:23.000 I've never been hurt, thanks to God.
00:53:25.000 And every fight that I have, I always pray for me and the guy that I'm fighting because I want both of us to go with our families because I have two friends that have died, one from Mexicali and one from Costa Rica that I know personally.
00:53:39.000 So it's scary, man.
00:53:41.000 It's really scary.
00:53:42.000 It most certainly is.
00:53:44.000 I mean, there's no getting away from that, man.
00:53:46.000 It's a fucking scary sport.
00:54:08.000 We'll see.
00:54:11.000 Why 35?
00:54:12.000 I don't know.
00:54:13.000 I just had that number.
00:54:14.000 Seems like a good number.
00:54:15.000 What do you think you would do if you weren't boxing?
00:54:18.000 Do the houses.
00:54:20.000 My dad is a contractor, so we buy lots and we make houses from scratch, you know, and we sell them.
00:54:26.000 We resell them or we rent them out or make a lot of apartments, you know, condos for the people that can't really afford.
00:54:35.000 What's that called?
00:54:36.000 My dad does it.
00:54:37.000 Low-income houses?
00:54:38.000 Low-income houses, apartments like that in my hometown, you know.
00:54:42.000 Well, that's beautiful.
00:54:44.000 But for fighters, the thrill of fighting is something that is impossible to recreate.
00:54:51.000 It's almost like...
00:54:53.000 For a regular person to experience what you experienced when you knocked out Anthony Joshua.
00:54:57.000 When Joshua gets counted off, the referee waves his arms, and you're like, oh, shit.
00:55:02.000 I started jumping like a bunny rabbit.
00:55:04.000 Oh, my God, you did.
00:55:05.000 You went nuts, man.
00:55:06.000 But, I mean, that feeling.
00:55:09.000 All of a sudden, you're the heavyweight champion of the world.
00:55:12.000 That...
00:55:13.000 I mean, if you could sell that...
00:55:14.000 Look at that.
00:55:15.000 Look at you right there.
00:55:16.000 Yeah.
00:55:18.000 Man, I felt like so many stuff from my bag just came off, you know, because so much pressure, so much stuff that was going through my mind.
00:55:27.000 I mean, everybody was stunned.
00:55:29.000 The whole crowd was stunned.
00:55:30.000 But the crowd was on your side.
00:55:32.000 It was really wild, man.
00:55:34.000 When you were teeing off on him, man, the roars of the crowd.
00:55:36.000 And when it was over, when the referee just shook his hand and waved it off, like...
00:55:42.000 That high is what leads fighters back in the ring when they really shouldn't be.
00:55:47.000 They chase that dragon.
00:55:49.000 Yeah, and that's what I want to do.
00:55:50.000 Make a statement that everything is possible.
00:55:53.000 All the fighters that have low confidence or something in themselves, anything is possible.
00:55:59.000 Just work hard and the opportunity will come.
00:56:03.000 Do you think you'll ever train fighters?
00:56:05.000 Me?
00:56:06.000 No.
00:56:06.000 I think the only person I would train would probably be like my son.
00:56:09.000 At first, you know, because it's not really good to be training the son.
00:56:14.000 Well, it depends what kind of relationship you guys have.
00:56:18.000 I think my son, I'll be training.
00:56:20.000 I'd rather be like a promoter or something like that.
00:56:24.000 Do you think you'll do that?
00:56:25.000 Like Oscar?
00:56:26.000 I sure will.
00:56:27.000 That's in the works.
00:56:29.000 ARJ Promotions.
00:56:31.000 Really?
00:56:32.000 Oh, no shit.
00:56:34.000 That's the plan.
00:56:36.000 First, I want to focus on the fight and all that.
00:56:38.000 I don't want to jump in conclusions of doing all kinds of other stuff.
00:56:42.000 I want to focus on my fight.
00:56:44.000 After that, or when I want to retire, I want to get fighters from Mexico, give them the opportunity and learn like Oscar Laloa.
00:56:53.000 Beautiful.
00:56:54.000 That's beautiful, man.
00:56:55.000 Anything else?
00:56:56.000 Anything else you want to tell people?
00:56:58.000 You know, just to tune in.
00:57:00.000 December.
00:57:01.000 December, Anthony Joshua against Andy Ruiz.
00:57:05.000 Andy Ruiz versus Anthony Joshua.
00:57:08.000 You're the top billing now, man.
00:57:10.000 You're the champ.
00:57:11.000 Thank you.
00:57:12.000 But, you know, I just got to work hard, man.
00:57:16.000 Work hard.
00:57:16.000 Stay humble.
00:57:18.000 Stay disciplined.
00:57:19.000 And just focus on the rematch.
00:57:21.000 Well, Andy, listen, man.
00:57:22.000 You're a great guy and a great role model.
00:57:24.000 Thank you.
00:57:25.000 I appreciate that.
00:57:25.000 I think for young kids to look up to a guy like you who's a really nice guy who's also a bad motherfucker, it makes them realize, hey, you know, you don't have to be a dickhead.
00:57:34.000 You don't have to be mean.
00:57:35.000 You could be a real cool dude who even prays for his opponent and still be the baddest motherfucker on the planet.
00:57:41.000 Congratulations to you, sir.
00:57:42.000 Thank you, man.
00:57:43.000 Appreciate it, man, very much.
00:57:44.000 And good luck to you in December.
00:57:44.000 Thanks for having me here.
00:57:45.000 Thanks for coming out, brother.
00:57:46.000 You're going to be there, man.
00:57:47.000 I'm going to give you some tickets for you.
00:57:48.000 Oh, shit.
00:57:49.000 Oh, shit.
00:57:49.000 You're going to be there.
