00:00:00.000 Hi, welcome to another edition of Prepper Dan on the road series. This time we're
00:00:12.000 heading to Elgin, New Brunswick, where we're going to meet Brittany, our chapter leader
00:00:16.000 from Sussex, New Brunswick. Brittany runs a little company called Wild Wellness Apothecary.
00:00:22.000 She runs this from home. She's a busy mom expecting her third child. And Brittany is
00:00:27.000 going to showcase some of her products. We're going to go to a cute little country store
00:00:32.000 there where she sells some of her products. But Brittany is going to tell us a little bit
00:00:36.000 about why it's important to use natural products that she makes herself. And there'll be links
00:00:41.000 in the description where you can order directly from her and support her business. So let's
00:00:45.000 head on up to Elgin, New Brunswick, where we can meet Brittany and find out all about her
00:00:50.000 products. Thanks for joining with me today on this episode.
00:00:57.000 Okay, so here we are for another edition of Prepper Dan. And I'm here with Brittany. Brittany
00:01:13.000 is our chapter leader here in Sussex, New Brunswick. And Brittany's got lots of talents. So she's
00:01:19.000 about to have a baby here in about a month. Baby number three. And Brittany also does a bit
00:01:26.000 of a home-based business. And her business is called Wild Wellness Apothecary. So I've
00:01:33.000 asked Brittany to share some of her products with us. And we're going to have a link in the
00:01:37.000 description as to how you can purchase some of her products. But Brittany, what got you started
00:01:44.000 in doing some of this business? Mostly just the fact that, you know, you come to the realization
00:01:51.000 that most of the products that you use on a daily basis are very toxic. From your deodorant to your
00:01:59.000 toothpaste, your hair products, they all have chemicals that are just, you know, the greatest for the body.
00:02:06.000 A lot of carcinogenic chemicals that, you know, and just your body gets overloaded. So anyways,
00:02:15.000 I decided to start making my own stuff for my own family. And it kind of just spiraled out into
00:02:21.000 a little business.
00:02:22.000 Okay. You do some foraging too, right?
00:02:25.000 Yes, I do.
00:02:26.000 So tell me about foraging. I mean, there's people that are thinking, you know, you get your
00:02:33.000 natural product, but where do you get natural products? Foraging out in the woods.
00:02:36.000 Yes.
00:02:37.000 Right?
00:02:38.000 Yes. So not only is it cheaper, but you have the stuff you're going to forage is going to be a lot
00:02:45.000 more of high quality than what you're going to find at any store. So not only do I love being outside
00:02:53.000 as it is, just a lot of the stuff that goes into my products, like 95% of what you see
00:03:01.000 outside is actually healthy for you. It's edible. So I think a lot of people are kind of put off
00:03:08.000 by the idea that, oh, well, this could be toxic or, you know, but the vast majority of stuff that's
00:03:14.000 even growing in your backyard, like dandelions or, you know, clovers, whatever it be, they actually
00:03:22.000 do have a lot of medicinal benefits to it and health benefits.
00:03:27.000 I've once heard it said, there's no such thing as a weed. It's just a misplaced plant.
00:03:31.000 Yes. Yeah. You'd be surprised. You'd be, you'd be very surprised as to how, you know, how many
00:03:37.000 things are actually good and usable. And, you know, even if you're foraging just for food.
00:03:43.000 Yeah. So it doesn't even just have to be medicinal, but a lot of stuff is edible as well.
00:03:48.000 Yeah. And people live for thousands of years before shoppers drug marketing.
00:03:52.000 Yeah.
00:03:53.000 Right. All right. And I'm just noticing like in this particular bottle, there's, there's
00:03:58.000 some little, is it little flowers in there?
00:04:01.000 Yeah. Those are little rose hips.
00:04:02.000 Little rose hips. Okay. Now I collect rose hips in the fall and I dry them to make rose
00:04:08.000 hip tea. So why don't you tell me a bit about some of the products that you have here?
00:04:13.000 Um, so I guess we'll start with this one. This one is my sunshine serum. Um, I use this
00:04:21.000 every for everything really. Um, it's good for your hair. It's good for your body. Um, it
00:04:26.000 has vitamin E, jojoba oil, um, wild crafted calendula infused oil. Um, so just a lot of, especially
00:04:37.000 when you're pregnant, it really works well for stretch marks. So, um, yeah, so this is,
00:04:42.000 this is something that I always have on hand really. Um, just it's a very versatile product
00:04:50.000 and it doesn't have any chemicals. It doesn't have any artificial fragrances or perfumes, which
00:04:57.000 we know can have hundreds of different chemicals just within the bracket of fragrance or perfume.
00:05:03.000 Um, so, so how would you use this for your hair?
00:05:06.000 Um, I, you can use it on your scalp. You can use it at the, on the ends of your hair.
00:05:11.000 Um, so yeah. Um, usually I do when my hair is about 60% dry and then just let it dry after
00:05:20.000 that bone. Um, yeah, I use it on my kids. I use basically everything on my kids. That's
00:05:25.000 why I make all this stuff because I found it really hard to find products that were safe
00:05:30.000 for my children, even when it came to shampoo and soaps and, um, moisturizers. So that's
00:05:35.000 kind of, that's kind of the whole part of it. Okay. Yeah. So I do stuff like diaper balms.
00:05:42.000 Um, this one, and that's bomb B A L M not bombs, right? Cause we know what goes in diapers
00:05:51.000 can be like bomb like. Yeah. So this is a tallow based diaper bomb. Um, all of my tallow products
00:05:58.000 are made, um, with locally raised grass fed, uh, beef. So the process for rendering this stuff
00:06:08.000 takes like three days just to get the tallow itself. Um, but yeah, so something like this
00:06:15.000 where it has a zinc oxide in it. Um, it makes it really good for diaper lashes and we all
00:06:20.000 love the pseudo cream, right? And all those nice thick creams that you get at the hospital
00:06:24.000 or, you know, Walmart or whatever. But unfortunately those, those products are mostly petroleum based.
00:06:31.000 Um, so that like a petroleum byproduct, which is also carcinogenic. Um, so yeah, I've decided
00:06:37.000 to formulate one for my baby that will be here soon. Um, with stuff like local beeswax and
00:06:44.000 then the tallow and zinc oxide. So it protects the skin. Um, and then I do tinctures. I obviously
00:06:52.000 only have a select few here. Um, but this is my St. John's wort tincture. So this is mainly
00:07:02.000 used for depression and anxiety. Um, it's also, um, it's also great for the kidneys and also helps
00:07:10.000 with ADHD symptoms. So. Okay. Now would you use that straight up or do you mix that in a drink?
00:07:17.000 I usually mix mine in a drink. I mean, you can, can take it like that, but obviously it's a little,
00:07:23.000 um, it's a little bitter. Okay. So yeah. And so when you have bitter, um, tinctures like this,
00:07:32.000 you can also use, I also make a lot of elixirs. So it's, it has, um, honey in it, local raw honey.
00:07:42.000 Um, just so you get the benefits from the honey, of course, but it also goes down a little easier.
00:07:47.000 Yeah. Spoonful honey makes the medicine go down. Yeah. And then, so this is a non-alcohol based,
00:07:55.000 uh, tonic. So this is specifically for the respiratory system. Um, wildcrafted usnia and,
00:08:05.000 um, and wildcrafted mullein. And so that was steeped and preserved with honey and voila. Okay. It works
00:08:15.000 very well. Yes. Awesome. And you've got some lip balms here. Yeah. My lip balms are also made with,
00:08:21.000 um, with local beeswax, um, and essential oils. Okay. And this one here says tangerine and, oh,
00:08:32.000 they're both tangerine. Okay. I have a few, I guess I grabbed the wrong one. Okay. I have them in
00:08:36.280 unscented or eucalyptus and stuff of that sort. Okay. And this is what I've been living off of.
00:08:43.780 You've been living off of dried herbs. What do we got here? Oh, there we go. Okay. Herbal pregnancy tea.
00:08:51.400 Yes. So nettle, raspberry, leaf, alfalfa. Yes. So first trimester, one cup per day. Second trimester,
00:08:58.400 two cups per day. Third trimester, three cups per day. So what does this do for you now?
00:09:04.020 So not only is it chocked full of all sorts of vitamins and minerals, um, but it also like the
00:09:11.380 raspberry leaf, for instance, it really helps to tone the uterus. Yeah. Um, so, you know,
00:09:18.760 just to kind of help with the ease of labor as much as you can anyways. Yeah. Um, yeah, it's,
00:09:25.240 so it has lots of magnesium and iron, which is very important during pregnancy, um, vitamin K,
00:09:32.620 vitamin A, B. Right. So all the vital nutrients and stuff that we need. Okay. I think we were
00:09:43.140 finished with that. Yeah. Okay. So besides these products, do you have any of the products that
00:09:47.280 you sell in your store? Um, yeah, you won't find them inside this store, but I have a lot,
00:09:54.580 I have a lot of tinctures, um, during the summer and stuff. I have a lot of more dry herbs. Um,
00:10:01.500 so you can make your own tinctures, um, teas, whatever it be. So. And you make all this stuff
00:10:08.780 out of your home, right? I do. Yes. So do you find it difficult to do that with children around the
00:10:13.060 head? Yeah. Very. Yeah. Very. They're, yes. They're four and almost three. So it's, um, it's a little
00:10:21.080 chaotic. Um, but we get her done once in a while. I do what I can when I can. But at the same time,
00:10:29.680 they're learning to do this stuff too, right? Yeah. And they, they specifically love foraging.
00:10:35.040 So when I'm out, I always have them with me. They're always picking stuff and learning. Um,
00:10:40.460 my four year old, he absolutely loves foraging. So he has his own little baskets and everything. So,
00:10:45.860 yeah. So it's definitely a learning experience and then how to use the, you know, the stuff he's
00:10:50.960 foraging and do lots of mushrooms. And yeah, yeah, it's a, it's a very good learning experience for
00:10:56.280 the kids. Okay. So let's talk about foraging mushrooms for a second, because a lot of people
00:11:00.060 have a fear about mushrooms and rightly so, because some, some mushrooms are, could be deadly. Uh, we have
00:11:07.120 like two or three particular mushrooms in our yard that I know right off are, are good edibles.
00:11:12.740 But, um, do you have a guide that you follow or what experience do you have in foraging mushroom?
00:11:18.580 Um, I'm certainly not an expert in mushroom foraging. Um, but there are lots of good beginner
00:11:23.360 mushrooms. So that's where I keep my scope kind of thing, especially when I'm teaching my kids.
00:11:29.280 Um, I only want to teach them, you know, something that they could be a hundred percent sure that
00:11:33.940 that's what they're picking. Though there is a, you know, a misconception that if you touch a
00:11:40.360 poisonous mushroom, you're not going to die. That's obviously false. It's only if you ingest it,
00:11:44.920 you know, you have symptoms. And there's a few really toxic ones that are quite easy to identify,
00:11:50.280 you know, like death caps, or angel wings. So I would, if you're going to get into foraging mushrooms,
00:11:57.140 I would highly recommend getting an actual field book. Um, so you can, specific to your area,
00:12:03.400 of course. So when you're outside on the field, you can flip through your book and match the
00:12:09.020 characteristics. But as I said, there's a lot of good, um, beginner mushrooms, like chanterelles and
00:12:15.000 stuff, lobster mushrooms, which is what we usually go for. Turkey tail. Do you get turkey tail here?
00:12:20.020 I have found some. Yeah. Um, chaga. Yeah. That's another one I have. Love chaga. I collect a lot of
00:12:26.520 chaga. Yeah. Yeah. I have a chaga tea every day, actually. Really? I have the pot on the stove all
00:12:31.500 the time. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I've, uh, I haven't found a lot of it around here. Maybe I'm just not
00:12:38.340 looking hard enough, but I do have, I sold out of my chaga tea. Maybe I have a couple of. Yeah.
00:12:44.440 Yeah. Okay. And, um, so you've got a website that you've been working on. Yes. And so we're going to
00:12:51.700 have a link to your website on the description of this video. And I know you're going to be adding
00:12:56.620 to it, but priority right now is for you to have this baby and get that done. And, uh, you also have
00:13:02.640 a Facebook page called wild wellness apothecary. So we'll have a link to that also in the description.
00:13:10.780 And so you can contact Brittany at, um, probably on her website where you can order things online
00:13:17.840 and then, uh, you can ship them to them to our customers and, uh, you'll be satisfied and be sure
00:13:25.720 to leave a good, um, uh, a good review for Brittany. I mean, she's a young mom and she's just getting
00:13:31.700 started with her business and we're glad to have her as part of our action for Canada team. And so I
00:13:37.100 was glad to be able to come out today. Um, beautiful farms around this area in Elgin, New Brunswick,
00:13:43.120 and, uh, another piece of paradise. And, uh, so pretty soon, I mean, the grass is getting green.
00:13:49.560 So very soon here, I'm already starting to see some places where the dandelions will be up
00:13:54.000 probably in the next, I'm going to say week or so. They'll be sprouting up. So just itching to
00:14:01.060 grab it. I know people think dandelions are weeds, right? No, they're not. Um, there's benefits in the
00:14:07.220 flowers and in the roots, the whole plant actually. Yeah. I'm actually going to be doing a Prepper Dan
00:14:14.460 video on just dandelions and it'll, it'll mess your mind to think that it's that weed is beneficial
00:14:21.220 for you. So, uh, yeah, so it's been fun to do a couple of episodes, uh, here in this area, uh, on the
00:14:29.440 road with Prepper Dan and we're going to be doing one more in my neck of the woods in Cape Breton with,
00:14:34.940 uh, another, uh, person that watches our channel and a local person. So Brittany, thank you so much
00:14:40.860 for doing this and I hope you get tons of orders, but, uh, you're going to be busy having this baby.
00:14:47.380 Yeah. So we wish you all of God's blessings with your new baby. Do you know what you're having by
00:14:52.240 the way? Yes. A little girl, a little girl, not a big girl. No, I hope not. Yeah. All right. Well,
00:14:59.480 uh, we pray that God will bless you and Calvin with this new addition and, uh, pray that you do very
00:15:04.800 well on your business. Thank you very much. God bless you.
00:15:06.900 God bless you.
00:15:16.140 God bless you.
00:15:18.360 God bless you.
00:15:23.360 God bless you.
00:15:28.700 I
00:15:31.060 I
00:15:31.880 I
00:15:32.920 I
00:15:34.980 You
