And now I'd like to hand the show over to the lovely Tanya Gaw, the founder and leader of
00:00:09.020
Action for Canada. I can't believe that we're quickly approaching Christmas and nearing the
00:00:14.940
end of another year. Although times are tough, I think we still have much to celebrate. So thanks
00:00:21.140
for that great introduction. I can't wait to find out who the winner is of that ugly sweater contest.
00:00:25.540
We will be emailing out an Action for Canada year in review. So be sure to check it out.
00:00:31.360
If you haven't already joined Action for Canada, make sure that you do so that you receive our
00:00:35.780
weekly information and updates. You will be encouraged by the wins and amazed at how many
00:00:42.620
programs, campaigns and resources Action for Canada has provided Canadians with a commitment
00:00:48.640
to continuing our good work in 2024 with many more wins anticipated. There's lots going on
00:00:55.400
in the background. But tonight we thank you for joining us for our annual Christmas service
00:01:00.900
as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. I received the Turning Point Daily Devotionals with Pastor
00:01:07.000
David Jeremiah, and he wrote the following message about how the heavens rejoiced and the angels
00:01:13.260
cheered at the birth of our Savior. Pastor Jeremiah wrote,
00:01:17.300
For Jesus wasn't born by accident. He entered this world at a preordained moment to fill an
00:01:24.520
eternally planned strategy for redeeming the human race. What a birthday celebration that must have
00:01:31.240
been. We are taught that Christmas is the celebration of the moment the eternal God entered into humanity
00:01:39.200
through the womb of a virgin. History's greatest miracle of conception and birth. The reason Christmas
00:01:46.220
captured our attention is that we have the sense that God himself is being born. Born so that we may be
00:01:53.220
born again in him. In light of these teachings, how can we also not rejoice and focus on that joy
00:01:59.940
that appeared that first Christmas night? We understand here at Action for Canada that Christmas can be a
00:02:06.660
difficult time for many people who are struggling with family relationships and especially loneliness.
00:02:12.400
But we want you to know that Action for Canada is building communities across the nation so that you will be
00:02:19.620
able to develop new friendships and be part of a growing ministry that is focused on exposing and
00:02:26.340
conquering evil and on restoring Canada's foundation that is built on biblical principles. There is no other
00:02:35.540
system of governance in the world that provides their citizens freedom and democracy other than those
00:02:41.940
that embrace Christianity and uphold its doctrine. We pray that you will be blessed this evening as we sing and
00:02:49.460
laugh and worship together. I'd like to now bring on Dan, our national pastor, our pastoral lead and chapter leader.
00:03:00.900
That's great. Hi, Tanya. It's so good to be with you. And here we are coast to coast, almost 6,000 kilometers away
00:03:07.220
and so thankful for technology that we can do this.
00:03:09.780
Yeah, that's quite amazing. I think about as we were preparing for this Christmas service celebration,
00:03:17.380
a lot of people don't have the opportunity to go to church. Their churches either closed down during
00:03:23.300
COVID or their pastors are not awake and actually warning their flock of all of the bad things that
00:03:31.700
are going on. And so this may be the only opportunity to enjoy a Christmas service. So we're really excited about
00:03:38.580
being able to do this tonight. And we hope the message will resonate with people and we'll have
00:03:43.220
a little bit of fun while we do it. That's right. And we do have a great service lined up. But first of
00:03:48.660
all, I want to say thank you to you, Tanya. I know you like to say you're not the boss, but you are a
00:03:54.420
great boss to work for and to work with. And we have an incredible team that's even making this service
00:04:00.980
available tonight and possible. And we're going to you're going to get to meet some of them later
00:04:07.300
on tonight in the in the program. And so we have a lot of different things planned for you tonight.
00:04:13.380
We're going to have some videos, songs with the words. And so if you're at home tonight,
00:04:18.740
I want to encourage you if you know the songs, well, even if you don't, you should know the songs
00:04:22.660
are popular Christmas songs. When the words come on, my challenge to you is to sing your heart out.
00:04:28.660
You're in the living room. If you're adults, you may even have teenagers at home. Go ahead and belt
00:04:34.020
up the tunes. This is a time of celebration. And like Tanya was saying, this is a time where we
00:04:39.220
remember Jesus Christ's birth. And we know that he may not have been born, you know, even in December,
00:04:45.300
December 25th. But that's OK. We're taking this day to celebrate his birth and it's his birthday.
00:04:51.900
And so we want just to be able to celebrate that together. All right. So we're just going to
00:04:57.940
go on now. And we've already introduced the ugly sweater. I don't know. One of those sweaters look
00:05:02.580
kind of nice to me. I have no problem wearing some of those sweaters myself, you know,
00:05:08.740
make a few heads turn. But anyhow, so we would just like to go ahead and introduce
00:05:13.780
our first Christmas song tonight. It's called the Christmas Hallelujah. It's actually a video
00:05:18.100
and it's very touching. So as Terenzio cues it up, I encourage you just to watch it and listen and hear
00:05:24.820
and watch the incredible story of God sending his son, Jesus Christ, to be born a savior for us.
00:05:31.940
I've heard about this baby boy who's come to earth to bring us joy. And I just want to sing this song to you.
00:05:54.580
Hallelujah. It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift. With every breath I'm singing
00:06:09.220
Hallelujah, hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
00:10:48.660
Wow, what a powerful song that is. I trust that really moved you.
00:11:07.420
And if you know anything what's going on in the world right now
00:11:26.820
I'm going to need to tell you a few things about him
00:11:55.740
He started off pastoring in the historic village of Lewisburg
00:12:00.600
Then went on to pastor in Moncton, New Brunswick
00:12:02.980
He pastored a place called Lemon in South Dakota
00:12:19.520
Where they actually tried to kill a pastor there
00:12:24.700
Then he went out to pastor in Chicago, Illinois
00:12:32.480
So Pastor Bill, we look forward to having you share
00:12:50.020
And all you folk that support her and work for her
00:13:06.580
Dan's a great representative for Action for Canada
00:13:17.460
We couldn't be talking about a more important subject
00:13:40.880
And the government will rest upon his shoulders
00:34:24.520
So we have a fella that some of you may remember that's been with us
00:34:33.240
for a little while a little bit on and off and he didn't get the memo to dress like
00:34:39.980
Pastor Bill and I tonight but we're gonna let him be on the show tonight on the service
00:34:45.860
anyhow and many of you would remember Ron Riewald he's been involved in some of our different
00:34:54.500
is going to read us a story tonight and we're looking forward to that so welcome Ron welcome back good to have you brother
00:35:02.540
Oh man it's so good to be back and I'm just happy to be with you guys I've got a story to read and I'm gonna get right into it
00:35:12.200
it's got a tremendous message and challenge young and old so I'm gonna share that with you and without further ado let's get right into
00:35:26.480
A long time ago almost too long ago to remember there lived an old shoemaker
00:35:34.200
His home was far away almost too far to imagine in a small Russian village
00:35:42.240
His name was Ponov but nobody called him Ponov or even shoemaker Ponov wherever he went in the village he was known as Papa Ponov
00:35:55.200
Papa Ponov was not very rich all he owned in the world was one small room looking out onto the village street and in that one room he lived and slept and made shoes but neither was he very poor he had all his shoemaking tools a cast iron stove to cook his food and warm his hands on a great wicker chair where he sat
00:36:23.200
A good firm bed with a patchwork quilt and a little oil lamp to see by when evening crept in
00:36:30.200
And there were so many people who wanted new shoes either made or patched Papa Ponov always had enough money to buy bread for the bakers coffee from the grocers and cabbage to make soup for his dinner
00:36:57.200
Most of the time his eyes would sparkle through his little round spectacles and he would sing and whistle and shout a cheery greeting to people passing by
00:37:13.200
Papa Ponov stood sadly in the window of his little shop and thought of his wife who had died many years before
00:37:21.200
And of his sons and daughters who had all grown up and gone away
00:37:26.200
It was Christmas Eve and everybody else was at home with their families
00:37:33.200
Oh dear said Papa Ponov pulling at his long green mustache and shaking his head slowly from side to side
00:37:45.200
And there was no one to bring back the sparkle behind his little round spectacles
00:37:54.200
Then he slowly lit his oil lamp went to a high shelf and lifted down an old brown book
00:38:03.200
He dusted some scraps of leather off the bench set a pot of coffee on the stove
00:38:10.200
Sat down in his great wicker chair and began to read
00:38:15.200
Now Papa Ponov had never been to school and could not read very well
00:38:22.200
So as he went he ran his fingers along the line saying the words out loud
00:38:41.200
Because there wasn't any room at the inn where his father and mother had asked to stay the night
00:38:48.200
Oh dear said Papa Ponov pulling at his long mustache
00:38:53.200
If they had come here they could have slept on my bed
00:38:57.200
And I would have covered the little boy with my patchwork quilt
00:39:02.200
I should like some company and the little child to play with
00:39:17.200
He read how the rich men traveled across the desert
00:39:22.200
To bring wonderful presents for the little boy Jesus
00:39:34.200
If Jesus came here I shouldn't have anything to give him
00:39:47.200
He got up from the table and went over to the high shelf
00:39:55.200
He opened the box and unwrapped a pair of tiny shoes
00:40:00.200
Papa Ponov held one small shoe in each hand and stood very still
00:40:13.200
And lowered his old limbs back into the great woodwork chair
00:40:22.200
He sighed a deep sigh and turned his attention to the book once more
00:40:37.200
But it wasn't long before Papa Ponov's bony little finger
00:40:43.200
His little round spectacles slipped from his nose
00:40:56.200
But the old shoemaker slumbered on, snoring gently
00:41:35.200
Look out into the street from dawn to dusk tomorrow
00:41:51.200
Papa Ponov sat up with a start and rubbed his eyes
00:42:50.200
Instead he sat in his wicker chair facing the window
00:42:54.200
And kept watch for the first person to pass that way
00:43:04.200
And began to brighten the long cobbled street outside
00:43:11.200
I'll just make a nice pot of coffee for my Christmas breakfast
00:43:19.200
But I'll keep an eye on the window all the while
00:43:35.200
Papa Ponov pressed his face to the frosty glass
00:44:16.200
And waited until he thought the old fellow had passed by
00:47:40.200
Hello, why don't you come in and warm yourself?
00:47:56.200
As he stood aside for her to enter his little shop
00:50:38.200
And after boiling a big dish of cabbage soup for his dinner
00:50:51.200
Papa Panoff looked closely at everyone who passed
00:52:10.200
And two great tears welled up behind his spectacles
00:52:14.200
And filled his eyes so that he could hardly see
00:52:17.200
At once it seemed as if there was someone in the room
00:52:21.200
Through his tears Papa seemed to see a long line of people
00:52:47.200
cried the old shoemaker struggling out of his chair
00:53:28.200
The old shoemaker shook his head from side to side thoughtfully
00:53:33.200
And the sparkle came back behind his little round spectacles
00:53:51.200
That is, you know, one of the things as we're getting ready to put this
00:53:59.200
It's not like a lot of people may not have a church to go to
00:54:02.200
This may be the only service that they can attend
00:54:10.200
I picture being in church and having a little bit of a performance
00:54:21.200
And I just think this is such a rich part of Christmas
00:54:37.200
Sometimes it says we don't know if we're entertaining angels
00:54:45.200
And so many other things that we personally can do as well
00:54:56.200
It's a great message, very timely for this season
00:55:18.200
And I am so pleased to be able to announce the winner of the 2023 Ugly Sweater Contest
00:55:28.200
And I want to give congratulations to all three finalists
00:55:44.200
Actually Heather, can you come back on for a moment?
00:55:48.200
But what was the results for first and second place?
00:56:03.200
Well, thank you everybody for participating in our Ugly Sweater Contest
00:56:06.200
I know Danielle, I'm going to be seeing her in a couple days
00:58:27.040
Come to Bethlehem and see him whose birth the angels sing
00:58:31.880
Come to Bethlehem and see him whose birth the angels sing
00:58:41.720
Come to Bethlehem and see him whose birth the angels sing
00:58:56.240
Come adore on bended knee Christ the Lord, the new born King
01:00:11.060
All right, I'm going to have a little bit of an interview with Pastor Bill.
01:00:16.680
And a lot of times people ask the question, you know, can we really find peace on earth?
01:00:25.020
How do we know that Jesus really is the one that really offers true peace?
01:00:32.840
There are so many people looking for true peace, so many people looking for real peace, lasting peace.
01:00:38.960
You know, and people try different things, right?
01:00:41.520
And so Pastor Bill and I were talking about this in the last couple of weeks.
01:00:45.520
And so I thought I would kind of be the person that's really looking to see if I can find real peace and get some answers from Pastor Bill.
01:00:54.460
So, you know, we kind of drill in this a little bit.
01:00:57.640
But and so, Pastor Bill, I'm going to ask you, how do we know for sure that Jesus is the one that really gives us peace?
01:01:07.300
What would you say to somebody asking that question?
01:01:10.480
I would say that, number one, he's a historical fact that he existed.
01:01:23.440
And then the other part is, but is he who he said he was?
01:01:32.160
We have to look to the Old Testament to see all the I think there's over 60 prophecies about his first coming.
01:01:38.460
And that he would be the son of Abraham, that he would be the son of Isaac, that he'd be the son of David, that he would be born of a virgin Mary.
01:01:48.600
And so there's so many prophecies that he fulfilled, just the very one in Genesis 3 and 15.
01:01:56.620
I will put enmity between you and the woman, between her seed and your seed.
01:02:01.560
Of course, God sent forth his son, made of a woman, made under the law.
01:02:07.880
And it says that God born under the law to redeem those who are under the law so he might have the adoption of sons.
01:02:17.060
And so there's so many prophecies that were fulfilled.
01:02:19.560
So just looking at them and someone said, well, what's the chances?
01:02:22.620
I mean, just the chances of fulfilling even eight of the 60 some odd prophecies.
01:02:31.760
And what would be the the the the stakes on that?
01:02:36.360
What would be the percentage of him fulfilling even just eight of those prophecies being fulfilled?
01:02:46.100
If you looked at the landmass of Alberta, it's about 256,000 square miles, 600, about 670,000 square kilometers.
01:02:58.560
It would take literally to put on that landmass four and a half feet deep of silver dollars or loonies, whatever kind of one you want to use.
01:03:12.400
But it would be filling that whole mass of land, province of Alberta, four and a half feet high, taking one coin, going up in an airplane and just dropping it in the in the middle of the whole bunch and telling a person you've got one chance to pick a coin.
01:03:30.800
And so they pick that coin and it's the very one you dropped out of the plane.
01:03:35.560
And that would be the very the same chance of Jesus fulfilling these prophecies.
01:03:42.220
So it's a miracle in itself that these prophecies were fulfilled.
01:03:56.900
You know, Pastor Bill, there is a prophecy that Messiah would be hung on a tree in the Old Testament.
01:04:07.860
I mean, you know, what are the chances of that?
01:04:12.820
There's a book that I have here by Josh McDowell, Evidence That Demands a Verdict, that talks about the chances or the percentages of one man fulfilling all of these prophecies.
01:04:26.860
He talks about one man fulfilling, let's say, 48 of the biblical prophecies in the Old Testament.
01:04:33.140
And he talks about the fact that the electron is the smallest thing that we have on earth.
01:04:40.680
And he says, so for one person to fulfill, say, 48 of the 64 or 65 Old Testament prophecies of Messiah's coming, okay, are one in 10 to the 157th power.
01:05:00.400
If you were to take that many electrons and stretch them out in a line, they would fill an inch.
01:05:10.500
Now, that doesn't seem like very long, but electrons are so small.
01:05:16.860
If you were to count that many electrons, 250 of them per minute, do you know how long that would take you?
01:05:36.520
One in 10 to the 157th power would have to take an inch cube.
01:05:46.180
So that would take you 19 million years times 19 million years times 19 million years of counting electrons.
01:05:53.700
Now, Pastor Bill, you're not going to be around that long, and neither am I, to count that many electrons.
01:05:59.400
That's for one person fulfilling 48 of those 64 or 65 prophecies, and Jesus fulfilled them all.
01:06:10.100
Now, the other thing is there's over 300 prophecies about Christ in the Old Testament, right?
01:06:18.340
There's prophecies of him coming back, and so people really wonder, can I really find peace on earth?
01:06:25.060
And the answer is, you know, he said who he said he was, and he proved it.
01:06:31.920
And, I mean, you know, the Bible talks about that he would raise from the dead.
01:06:46.820
I didn't choose that I'd be born, like, in a hospital or a manger.
01:06:51.580
I didn't choose that I'd have a predecessor or what they would call me.
01:06:59.760
And so if you're wondering tonight, can I really find peace on earth?
01:07:04.400
In spite of the fact that some of you may live in poverty or heartache or in a war-torn place,
01:07:09.740
you can only find peace through a person, and that's by surrendering your life to Jesus Christ.
01:07:25.560
So, Pastor Bill, just in closing this conversation, you found peace in your life.
01:07:31.500
But take just a few moments to tell us, how did you find peace in your life through Jesus Christ?
01:07:36.940
Well, I was a young man of just 18 years old or 19 years old.
01:07:41.920
I'd already been involved in the group in the 70s, of course, 60s and 70s.
01:07:48.680
I was playing drums in a band and had dreams of being a rock star and all this stuff.
01:07:54.920
And I had so many, a number of bad experiences on drugs, bad trips, you might call them.
01:08:04.860
And my mom and dad were very, very concerned for me.
01:08:12.920
But back then, there was no, it seemed like it was further, to a little fishing village called
01:08:18.220
They moved us out here and thought it would help me, sort of get me away from the crowd
01:08:23.920
And although that didn't help, but God had a purpose in it.
01:08:28.120
God had a, it's amazing how he orchestrates things.
01:08:31.720
And I only knew one person in this little town of Lewisburg I met at one of our rehearsals.
01:08:40.100
And so, when we moved in, I, after we finished moving, I went down the street, walked down the
01:08:47.480
road a bit, and who was out throwing a ball to her dog, her golden retriever, but was Rosette.
01:08:59.940
And that night, I was so obvious, I had hair way down to my backside.
01:09:04.080
And I used to wear an old denim jacket with patches all over my jeans.
01:09:08.660
And I'd have a smoked Colombian chief on the back of my jacket.
01:09:17.180
And she said to me, you know, you need to be saved.
01:09:21.680
And I couldn't get that word saved out of my head.
01:09:26.040
You know, she, and about two weeks later, the lead guitar player had had an experience.
01:09:32.940
A tourist going through town had led him to the Lord.
01:09:35.020
I was telling him what my wife, Rosette, well, my future wife, Rosette, would told me
01:09:58.220
And he quoted a scripture to me of John's gospel.
01:10:01.360
If any man comes to me, I will in no wise cast him out.
01:10:05.760
And when he said that, now I was on LSD at the time when he said this to me.
01:10:15.980
God in his mercy just gave me revelation that it meant God loved me, that Jesus died for
01:10:26.300
He said, pray this prayer with me and you're going to just have this great feeling.
01:10:32.880
And I prayed this simple little prayer, Jesus, I believe you're the son of God.
01:10:42.480
Please forgive me of my sins and come into my heart and save me and give me eternal life.
01:10:47.100
And I prayed the prayer with him and I didn't feel a thing.
01:10:51.680
And I said, maybe it's the drugs because Rosette told me that drugs was wrong and God wouldn't
01:11:00.800
I laid on the couch for about, I don't know how long it was.
01:11:04.400
And I kept praying that prayer over and over and over.
01:11:10.060
The spirit of God, the spirit of Christ came in my life.
01:11:14.020
I just jumped up off of that couch and knew I was saved.
01:11:21.060
I said, Bobby, I'm leaving all this and I'm going home.
01:11:23.540
And I got home and God began to change my life radically, radically.
01:11:36.120
And eventually, my dad and my Rosette, I went off and ended up going to Bible college.
01:11:41.820
Rosette came to the Lord, really and seriously.
01:11:45.460
And we got married and have spent now 40 some odd years in ministry.
01:11:54.580
I was a young man without peace, full of fear, full of anxiety.
01:12:03.120
It's a supernatural event, giving us his shalom, his peace, nothing broken, nothing missing.
01:12:19.480
I mean, if we had all kinds of time, we could talk about the joy that God gives us in spite
01:12:33.580
So we're going to go to another song, another video tonight.
01:12:37.420
And it's one that will touch your heart as well.
01:13:36.660
The weary world rejoices from yonder, praised a new and glorious morn.
01:16:57.120
because there's many people that are going to be hearing this.
01:17:14.740
And there are those that have been leading a life
01:17:28.580
that, you know, were outside of that kind of a living.
01:17:34.740
he's going to wipe our sins and make us white as snow.
01:17:37.940
I don't know all the details of Pastor Bill or not,
01:17:49.160
that he gives us all an opportunity to choose him.
01:17:52.600
So if you're lonely tonight, if you're feeling desperate,
01:18:18.320
And that's what we have endeavored to do this last year
01:18:22.960
and protecting your freedom as well in doing so.
01:18:27.260
And the fact that Jesus Christ came into the world
01:18:40.120
But, you know, if you have a heaviness in your heart
01:18:53.540
And, you know, you realize Christmas is not about the trees
01:19:09.600
You know, I was in Value Village the other day.
01:19:17.220
you know, in our home here, we probably have 20.
01:19:32.180
And, you know, God gave us the greatest gift ever,
01:19:35.340
the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, his son.
01:19:39.040
but God will reveal himself to those who seek him.
01:19:44.620
just to share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
01:19:49.320
And so we just wanted to be a part of your life
01:19:55.220
And we have a great team here at Action for Canada.
01:20:22.700
And we so appreciate each and every one of you.
01:20:30.560
And then the whole team is going to come together
01:20:54.940
If we can give you a plane ticket to go anywhere,
01:21:11.400
I hope Canadians could just express their love to you.
