Transcript

00:00:00.000 I think one of the things that has developed over the last three years that really, maybe
00:00:14.900 outside of Quebec, really wasn't an issue was the right of protesting.
00:00:20.960 It didn't seem to happen very often.
00:00:23.620 Quebec has a bit of a longer history, I think, of doing that, at least in the media.
00:00:28.020 But for the most part, protesting seemed to be either an anomaly or something that scared
00:00:36.020 people off in the rest of Canada.
00:00:38.400 Part of that, of course, is the media itself.
00:00:41.800 When people see pictures of protests on the media, what do they see?
00:00:47.080 They see cut and paste of videos and pictures from all over the world of people throwing
00:00:54.920 bricks and rocks and all kinds of gas bombs and everything else.
00:01:04.480 And people get the impression that that's what happens at rallies and protests, that that
00:01:09.300 is the norm.
00:01:10.860 And far from it, especially here in Canada, where virtually all protests that have taken
00:01:16.760 place, have been peaceful throughout Canada.
00:01:20.660 The RCMP here in British Columbia and in Kelowna have repetitively announced that they are happy
00:01:28.780 that all the protests here have been peaceful.
00:01:31.480 And as a result, that is kind of an admission as well, that with the protests being peaceful,
00:01:37.820 there's virtually nothing they can do to stop them.
00:01:40.620 And I suppose that is the starting point that I wanted to mention tonight, is the absolute
00:01:48.240 freedom that everybody has in Canada to protest, especially against your governments and what
00:01:55.640 they're doing, which is unlawful and unconstitutional.
00:01:59.620 It's morally and religiously wrong and ethically wrong.
00:02:04.060 And it's wrong in virtually every way you can look at it.
00:02:08.200 And as a result, the majority of, I shouldn't say the majority, but a lot of people in Canada
00:02:12.640 have taken to the streets over the last two and a half years.
00:02:16.180 In Little Kelowna, we had up to 2,000 people.
00:02:19.160 And in Vancouver, I think there was 10,000 to 15,000 people and a lot more in various other
00:02:24.560 areas across Canada that were exercising their right to protest.
00:02:29.560 And it's a really critically important right that hopefully more people will participate
00:02:35.420 in in the future.
00:02:37.220 One of the things we also participated in here was protesting at our schools for a variety
00:02:43.280 of reasons.
00:02:45.040 We protested on the mask issue and we were handing out flyers to some of the students here at the
00:02:51.080 schools.
00:02:51.440 And this was shortly, shortly before BC brought in legislation, some, well, allegedly to ban
00:02:58.920 that from within 60 feet of the schools.
00:03:02.040 But what they told the public and what the legislation says is entirely different.
00:03:07.880 If you have legislation in your area of the country, in your province or municipality that
00:03:13.860 is being used to allegedly stop you from protesting somewhere, it's critically important to read
00:03:20.860 word for word what that says and compare that to what the government is saying.
00:03:25.680 Because we found out here that their legislation that they promoted as saying you can't come
00:03:34.220 within 60 feet of a school only meant you can't go within 60 feet of a school if you're doing
00:03:40.280 one of the three specified activities, preventing people from coming in and out of the buildings
00:03:46.100 and a couple of other ones that were there.
00:03:48.420 And if you weren't doing those, then you could still peacefully be there right on the sidewalk.
