00:00:11.220 take a deeper dive into what is going on behind the scenes with many of the decisions that are

00:00:18.300 being made by Calgary's City Council. As a preface to what we are going to be speaking about,

00:00:40.480 on its website and I will be talking about more of this towards the end of the video. Essentially,

00:00:50.560 we do not believe that CO2 is causing the climate to change along with all of these points listed here.

00:01:03.320 With that, let's begin. As a very, very brief background to a lot of the green agenda,

00:01:14.280 green policies that we are seeing everywhere, basically this is not new. This is something

00:01:22.500 that's been going on for a very, very long time. Way far back, it's 1960, Paul Ehrlich created a book

00:01:32.080 called The Population Bomb and that really focused on conservation biology and from there in 86,

00:01:40.760 another big year. This was called Our Common Future, the World Commission on Environment and Development

00:01:52.080 and that happened in Norway and the term sustainable development really began about this time.

00:02:00.460 Another big year was in 92 and that was when the United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

00:02:09.140 happened. Agenda 21 was created and this really started the principles of sustainable development. In

00:02:19.460 Canada, Brian Mulroney was our Prime Minister and he signed Canada on to this as well. 178 other countries signed on for the

00:02:27.460 178 other countries signed on and about the same time in 1994, ICLE was created. ICLE goes beyond the scope of this video

00:02:42.140 but essentially ICLE stands for the International Council on Local Environment

00:02:50.820 really, this area started to look more at the local level, small towns, municipalities and

00:02:59.820 essentially acted as a consultant group and they were bringing the UN objectives more to the small towns and they brought what was called the Municipal Primer.

00:03:19.500 In 2012, that was a big year, it was called the Rio 20 happened because it was 20 years since Rio, the first Rio had happened. So this one was Rio plus 20 in 2012 and the Sustainable Goals were worked on, developed a

00:03:45.820 The 2030 Agenda which we see everywhere now came to be and the 17 Sustainable Goals also came to be at this time. That was in New York City. In December, the Paris Climate Agreement was signed and created.

00:03:53.820 A big area within that Paris Agreement was the 1.5 degrees and any time that you hear, read, see something about 1.5 degrees that has to do with the United Nations Paris Agreement.

00:04:57.840 called the smart city challenge so lots of money was put forth for cities to come up and meet the

00:05:08.040 challenge of becoming a smart city and they were told to come up with bold ambitious ideas to improve

00:05:15.000 the lives of their residents using data and connected technologies so doesn't sound at all

00:05:22.300 nefarious does it it sounds like this would be a good thing a positive thing but we do know a little

00:05:28.680 bit different now the information that I have here which I'm going to share in the next couple of

00:05:34.400 slides came from MP Leslie Lewis in Ontario I'll talk about her a little bit more but she sent out a

00:05:42.680 video because her constituents were quite concerned about the smart cities and so she created a video

00:05:49.040 a little bit of background information on the smart cities in it she talked about this challenge

00:05:55.200 being modeled on Singapore and it is the gold standard in data collection and within her video

00:06:01.620 she showed a video a video within a video a portion of a video from Singapore showing how you know they

00:06:09.760 have their cameras set up everywhere they can see that people coming and going every little thing they

00:06:15.380 do and that was considered the gold standard and that started in 2014 225 municipalities in Canada

00:06:24.240 applied there was 75 million dollars in funding awarded the initial awards according to lesson Lewis

00:06:33.420 were Bridgewater Nova Scotia Guelph and Wellington County in Ontario Nunavut communities as well as Montreal

00:06:42.340 Quebec that government program federally is currently on hold but many smart cities have popped up across

00:06:51.200 the country from various funding sources and some of those mentioned within her video are Mississauga

00:07:41.860 maybe it was Smith Jordan Peterson they talked about um the her background um and she does have a master's

00:07:51.600 in environmental studies and um she's also a lawyer and she did also own her own business so she is well

00:07:58.940 versed and does speak a lot about the green initiatives that are happening while within Canada and within

00:08:05.600 the world so with in her video I grabbed a few um uh screenshots this one to the left is not a screenshot

00:08:16.100 from her video it's one that I grabbed from the Western Standard as you can see and the city of Edmonton

00:08:23.000 makes no bones about it they don't try to hide it it's in plain sight that they are indeed a smart city

00:08:38.580 about Edmonton and its smart city plans so here is a screenshot that I grabbed from her video talking a

00:08:46.500 little bit about the plans there uh within her um video she also spoke about the sidewalks lab initiative

00:08:58.160 and this is also comes up in some of the Calgary uh documents that I took a peek at and uh here is an

00:09:07.240 artist rendering of what um that area should look like and it was um uh partnered with Alphabet who is

00:09:18.340 uh the parent company to Google and I imagine much much uh was put forward in the way of money for this

00:09:27.660 initiative but it was cancelled in 2020 for many reasons I'm presuming that COVID was one of them

00:09:34.020 but also uh privacy concerns were brought up this lady here sat on the board and she's the former

00:09:43.160 privacy commissioner and uh from this um newspaper article she says here this is from CBC she says

00:09:54.520 that she was worried that the sidewalk slab has not gone far enough to ensure people's personal

00:10:00.180 information is safe from bad actors so good for her good on her for stepping forward and voicing her

00:10:07.340 concerns um about this project as mentioned earlier um 2015 um Trudeau came to power and so now we know

00:10:38.380 uh young global leaders and that they have infiltrated um most of the canadian government

00:10:56.360 apply to become a smart uh apply to become a smart city and a little more mayor nancy here at the time

00:11:05.040 he was one of 190 picked out of 5 000 to become a young global leader trained by the world economic forum

00:11:13.440 uh he was calgary's mayor and he is the current leader of the alberta ndp
