Transcript

00:00:00.000 the king and queen, has duties to us.
00:00:02.320 And when we buy that land,
00:00:04.240 they have a duty to protect us in our property lands.
00:00:08.020 Let me take you back,
00:00:11.020 and I've talked about it in the past,
00:00:12.920 to the Coronation Oath Act of 1688.
00:00:15.920 And this act is what basically solidified the wording of the coronation
00:00:21.040 to make sure everybody knew what it was going to be.
00:00:24.280 And I'll just read you the opening paragraph,
00:00:27.040 because it's actually quite important.
00:00:28.940 And it states,
00:00:31.160 whereas by the law and ancient usage of this realm,
00:00:35.160 in other words, it's already law.
00:00:37.340 What they're reciting in this paragraph already exists.
00:00:41.020 It's not creating anything new.
00:00:44.220 The kings and queens have taken a solemn oath upon the evangelists
00:00:49.180 at their respective coronations
00:00:50.900 to maintain the statutes, laws, and customs of the said realm
00:00:56.040 and all the people and inhabitants thereof,
00:00:58.940 in their spiritual and civil rights and properties.
00:01:03.320 That is where your property rights first originated,
00:01:07.060 as a recognition by the monarch that you have them.
00:01:10.760 And in the course of their duties,
00:01:12.900 which includes giving royal assent to legislation,
00:01:16.040 they agree that they will protect you in your property rights.
00:01:19.160 And that is an obligation, constitutionally speaking,
00:01:25.080 upon the king or queen to us as their subjects,
00:01:28.540 not necessarily to the Indians.
00:01:31.660 Their only obligation to the Indians are what's in the treaties.
00:01:36.040 And that's it.
00:01:36.740 And those treaties, as we've all talked about,
00:01:41.300 have been paid for many times over, right?
00:01:47.180 And consequently,
00:01:48.900 when the monarch takes that oath to uphold God's laws,
00:01:53.560 if they have to,
00:01:54.800 if the honour of the crown is at stake
00:01:56.800 to uphold the contracts with the natives,
00:02:01.080 how much more is the honour of the crown at stake
00:02:03.580 to uphold their contract with us
00:02:05.120 to protect us and our property rights?
00:02:06.880 Thank you.
