In this episode, I talk about a teacher who is being investigated by her professional regulator for comments she made about critical race theory and why her teaching license is at stake. I also talk about why teachers should not have to be afraid to speak about their concerns over any political or social issue.
00:01:20.600Hi everyone, it's such an honor to be here today surrounded by freedom-loving Canadians
00:01:31.160who are supporting somebody who actually has integrity and principles and common
00:01:37.080sense. So my name is Chanel Fall. I'm currently running for trustee in the OCDSB, the Ottawa Public Board and yeah I was a high school teacher for a few years from 2017 to 2021 and I
00:01:59.040was going to tell you why my teaching license is at stake right now but I guess you already know so I'll skip to the other part.
00:02:06.720So for those who might not be familiar with the term critical race theory, should I pause for a second?
00:02:15.320So yeah, so if you're not familiar with the term critical race theory, now you'll know what to call it when your kid comes home and says I wish I wasn't white or when your kid comes home and says the whole world is against
00:02:36.700them because they're black. CRT is behind all that anti-racism training that tries to convince you it's okay to judge based on skin colour as long as it's the right assumptions, right?
00:02:54.700And it's okay to discriminate against people based on their race as long as it's against the right pigment, the people of the right pigment.
00:03:04.700This CRT philosophy has people advocating for safe spaces. Spaces where they can be around people only of the same skin colour as them. If you look at Trent University right now, I'm sure it's not the only place. They have a freedom lounge, they call it, which is ironic. But in the freedom lounge, white people can't go in.
00:03:32.700What? Yeah, check it out. It was just released. Jonathan Kay tweeted about it this week. It's insane. And people are defending this. Same with the OCDSB, the board that Shannon and I are running for. I just posted an email this week that was sent to me by a teacher. And it was information relating to after school meetings, virtual meetings with students, but not just
00:04:02.680any student who wanted to be students who wanted to be there. It had to be students based on their race, their religion, or their sexual orientation. Now don't worry, the kids had to be at least kindergarten age to attend.
00:04:15.680The point is CRT is racist, it's inaccurate, and it's divisive. Color blindness and equality for all are what is the best path for us for long term peace. And I think we all know that. Teachers should not have to risk their careers to say it.
00:04:38.680I know far too many teachers right now who are seriously feeling so trapped by all of this. They feel like either they have to sell their soul or they have to lose their job. And I mean, I just, I can't imagine feeling so suffocated. It's tragic. And I just, I hope to get back in a classroom one day.
00:05:07.680I know that's weird. I know that's bizarre. I probably shouldn't want that anymore. But I do. I signed up to be a high school teacher. I loved teaching biology. I want to go back in a classroom one day. But I think first we have some big changes to do when it comes to the priorities that our school boards are, you know, just, it's crazy. It's crazy out there. We all know it. I know. I know you guys know.
00:05:35.680So I will just end this off by saying thank you to Barry Neufeld and to everybody here who's supporting him, supporting free speech and everything, just supporting freedom in general. You guys are awesome. It's an honour to be here.
00:05:51.740And let us never, never back down from saying what we believe. We will turn this around. I'm confident that we will. People, when they find out the truth, they will stick to it. Okay. So keep hope.
