00:00:00.000 Hi, my name is Chesney, and today I'm going to talk about how our attitude affects our lives.
00:00:07.620 Did you know that 90% of our actions stem from our attitude instead of actual logic or facts?
00:00:13.180 That's an alarming amount of decisions based on if we're feeling upset, tired, annoyed,
00:00:17.940 you name it in the heat of the moment. Our negative emotions affect how we are going
00:00:22.220 to navigate through life immensely. So what can we do to look at things in a more positive way?
00:00:26.900 Okay, that's the question we'll be looking at today. First of all, I wanted to start off with a story
00:00:31.740 about Peter from the Bible. Peter and three other fishermen were fishing all night long, but they had
00:00:36.800 absolutely no luck catching anything. Anyone who has been fishing knows how that feels, and it's quite
00:00:41.980 annoying. After long hours, they quit and started washing their nets. Jesus then asked Peter to go
00:00:48.280 back out and try laying his net down one more time. This is the moment where most people had the fear
00:00:53.800 failure kick in and think, why would I want to try again after I've struggled all night long?
00:00:58.380 But Peter told him, we've struggled all night and caught nothing. Nevertheless, at your word,
00:01:03.240 I will let down the net. And his perseverance was rewarded when there were so many fish to catch
00:01:07.720 that their nets were breaking. This is the moment that led them to become disciples.
00:01:12.720 But just think of how different this could have ended up if they just washed their nets and left the
00:01:17.120 area, or if they didn't keep trying for hours and hours. They would have missed out on seeing Jesus
00:01:22.040 perform miracles so they could catch fish. They would have not become disciples that day. And maybe
00:01:27.280 they would have been so defeated that they quit being fishermen forever. The issue is, a bad attitude
00:01:32.360 could have changed their whole lives by giving up. Wayne Gretzky once said, you miss 100% of the shots
00:01:37.900 you don't take. And this hockey quote completely applies to our attitude. We give up or don't try
00:01:42.820 something new because we think we're not good enough or that we might fail. But instead of preparing
00:01:47.140 yourself to fail, prepare yourself that you will keep trying no matter what happens. This will really
00:01:52.120 help your attitude to improve. The disciples had issues with fishing, but there was an amazing catch
00:01:57.140 this way to happen. They didn't know that, but it happened because they tried again anyways.
00:02:02.080 So the question was, what can we do to change our mindset to be a more positive one? In conclusion,
00:02:08.880 the best way is to push through the hard times with perseverance. Like Peter did when they couldn't
00:02:13.500 catch fish, he tried again. If 90% of our actions are a result of our attitude, then we must have a
00:02:20.060 positive one, full of perseverance and willingness to try. I challenge you that if you have a what if
00:02:25.540 I fail attitude, then turn it into a persevere through no matter what mentality when you try
00:02:31.920 something new this month. Thank you for your time.
