00:00:00.000 gangs used to actually be friends and uh they would actually like like love each other and like
00:00:07.260 basically fight against the police
00:00:09.320 of south dr martin luther king drive lies o block o block is home to the parkway gardens
00:00:17.960 low-income apartment complex these days there are various reports that rappers are scared of
00:00:23.420 o block this complex is o block still um considered like a hot location or no 35 buildings and then
00:00:31.660 one of them was where a young michelle obama and her family once lived she once described the place
00:00:37.040 as a wonderful small apartment building so why then are rappers scared of o block today on rap
00:00:44.280 central we'll show you just why o block history originally named parkway garden homes the
00:00:52.720 apartment complex was built from 1950 to 1955 and was the first apartment complex to be
00:00:57.760 cooperatively owned by chicago's african-american residents it was built to fix the problem of the
00:01:02.640 urban housing shortage that happened after world war one the complex has 35 buildings in which 24 of
00:01:07.980 them are walk-up buildings while the remaining 11 are eight-story buildings chicago's african-american
00:01:12.940 population boomed from 1920 to 1970 and this was a time when o block became quite popular and in 2011
00:01:19.960 the complex was even added to the national register of historic places however while o block became
00:01:25.680 popular so did gangs and violence began to rise in the neighborhood o block gang i don't know if
00:01:31.500 you guys knew this but guys real quick on some gang talk is that bobby i don't know if you guys knew
00:01:35.420 this but um gangs used to actually be friends and uh they would actually like like love each other
00:01:44.400 and like basically fight against the police or no they would keep the city clean
00:01:49.820 these gangs in chicago were founded or began in 1958 by a group of young teenagers these teenagers
00:01:56.980 were from the major black neighborhoods in chicago such as hyde park kenwood and inglewood with the goal
00:02:02.420 of creating an alliance to combat their enemies some of the notable founders are david barksdale
00:02:07.360 richard strong larry hoover leonard longstreet kilroy prince old timer etc they named this alliance
00:02:14.860 devil's disciples but by the beginning of 1961 david barksdale had taken full control of the devil's
00:02:20.380 disciples barksdale's goal was to turn all the small gangs around the neighborhood into factions
00:02:25.780 of the disciples barksdale created the black disciples nation in 1966 so as to make the gang 0.92
00:02:31.300 stronger and make them able to counteract threats from other gangs this move increased the number of
00:02:35.720 people who joined the gang into the thousands but the gang became even bigger in 1969 when larry
00:02:40.700 hoover the leader of the rival gang gangsta disciples agreed to a merger with barksdale
00:02:45.220 and together they created the black see chat i'm jewish that's a jewish star i don't know if you guys
00:02:50.000 knew that it's a star of david um i'm actually thinking about getting a chain of that um that's
00:02:55.160 kind of cool i didn't know they repped that that's really cool is that their flag or their emblem i
00:02:59.580 should say is that is that is that what they rep disciples nation however not long after the
00:03:05.080 alliance was formed larry hoover was sentenced to prison for murder and with larry in prison
00:03:09.140 barksdale became the only leader of the gang but in 1974 at the age of 27 barksdale died due to
00:03:15.680 kidney complications his death left the problems within the black gangster disciples nation and the 1.00
00:03:20.440 gang eventually split into different factions called the black gangster disciples and the black
00:03:24.300 disciples now this is a crucial moment in the history of chicago and old block gangs because these
00:03:29.340 two same gangs still rule the block till this very day the creation of these two factions led to a
00:03:34.340 rivalry and a bloody gang war that has never ended but instead they only have peace for a while
00:03:39.060 and then end up back at war again also these two gangs have factions that have been responsible for
00:03:43.860 perpetrating violence on the streets of chicago for many years black disciples the black disciples 0.95
00:03:50.580 gang have spread from chicago to other parts of america particularly to the midwestern and southwestern
00:03:55.520 states the gang's colors are blue red and black as of 2004 research showed that there are as many
00:04:00.920 as 300 factions of the black disciples wow each faction has over 30 members and they all maintain
00:04:05.800 the same structure the highest rank okay so 300 times 30 is um 6 000 or no 9 000 in each set is king
00:04:14.660 shorty and after which comes the minister assistant co-minister and then the demetrius the primary
00:04:20.840 activity of the gang is illegal drug trafficking and other criminal activities of the gang include arms
00:04:25.780 trafficking burglary money laundering murder racketeering robbery illegal gambling kidnapping
00:04:32.740 and theft the black disciples are the dominant gang in old block many fans believe that the old block
00:04:38.460 faction of the gang is responsible thank you hold up hold up listen when you guys roll dice do you roll 0.98
00:04:44.040 two or three dice because snaggy mo came over last night and tried fucking finessing three dice 1.00
00:04:49.580 everyone knows when you roll dice it's two bro fucking snaggy mo you weird ass bitch 1.00
00:04:54.380 fans believe that the old block faction of the gang is responsible for most of the killings and 1.00
00:04:58.300 violence that happens on the block and that the gang is also responsible for most of the violence 0.92
00:05:03.220 that happens in chicago some other gang rivals of the black disciples are vice lords black p-stones 0.87
00:05:08.600 mickey cobras latin kings and of course the gangster disciples due to the history of chicago gangs
00:05:14.980 almost all families are involved with the gang one way or the other the gangs are generational which
00:05:19.720 is why in most situations the grandfather is a gang member the father is a gang member and the
00:05:24.300 son is a gang member it's kind of sad because you're literally like this kid is like like 13 14
00:05:29.940 13 years old and he's and he's literally born into being a gang member it's cruel it's like 0.97
00:05:35.460 it's fuck because you don't even choose that life so i kind of i feel for you guys when you guys like 0.99
00:05:40.520 well some of you hold on a second let me rephrase this for any of you guys that go through this shit 1.00
00:05:45.200 and i'm really sorry if you do like it's just crazy because i feel for you like you're born into it 0.95
00:05:49.240 there's nothing you can do about it as a result many chicago rappers are born into these gangs
00:05:54.000 and some of them are chief keith lil dirk la capone fredo santana lil reese and king von and in case
00:06:01.560 you don't know the original leader of the black disciples david barksdale is the grandfather of
00:06:06.620 king von this is also why von is called grandson and also the reason why he named one of his mixtapes
00:06:11.880 grandson oh my god gangster disciples unlike the black disciples the gangster disciples are not 0.99
00:06:18.860 just a street gang but also a prison gang the old color of the gangster disciples is black and blue 0.80
00:06:24.000 but these days gang members now wear black and gray instead the gangster disciples have a significant
00:06:29.100 presence in the u.s prison system and the gang is active in 110 cities and in 31 states just like the
00:06:35.160 black disciples the gangster disciples are predominantly in the midwestern and southwestern states 0.96
00:06:39.340 and this is why most times the gang are always in a war for territory the gangster disciples mostly
00:06:44.200 hold territory in the near north side of chicago and the gang has over 25 000 to 50 000 members
00:06:48.920 the gang is involved in criminal activities such as assault auto theft fraud homicide prostitution rings
00:06:56.300 firearms violations money laundering and drug trafficking some gang allies of the gangster disciples
00:07:02.340 are the crips simon city royals etc bro all those law-breaking activities and stuff it's just
00:07:09.260 crazy i i would never i couldn't even imagine that like it's just insane bro i i feel for all of you
00:07:15.820 guys bro i'm sorry for all of you guys that have to go through that and some of their rivals are latin
00:07:20.060 kings people nation bloods vice lords and black peace stones some rappers who are members of the
00:07:26.240 gangsta disciples are fbg duck little mister little mo ruga billionaire black oh jojo etc 0.87
00:07:33.560 the death of tuca and od perry now in the past the neighborhoods with the most shootings in chicago 0.56
00:07:41.720 were inglewood and the west side but nowadays o block has become perhaps the most dangerous
00:07:46.420 neighborhood in all of chicago between june 2011 and june 2014 o block had the most shootings of any
00:07:52.800 blocks in all of chicago this is undoubtedly a result of the gangs in the city and the complex was also
00:07:58.360 named oblock by gang members in august 2011 od perry was shot and the block was named after him
00:08:03.960 many fans believe that the block was named after him because he was a member of the black
00:08:07.620 which street is although it isn't clear who killed od fans are speculating that he was killed by members
00:08:12.700 of the gangsta disciples as a retaliation for the killing of gregory shondale who was popularly known
00:08:17.420 as tuca was killed in january 2011 and after his death a set of gangsta disciples members who were
00:08:24.160 originally known as st lawrence boys or as they're popularly known stl renamed themselves after him
00:08:29.500 the gang is known as tuca and the territory they own is called tucaville 15 year old tuca was killed
00:08:35.340 in january 2011 at a bus stop according to various fan speculations tuca was also killed as retaliation
00:08:41.200 for the death of another black disciples member now this is another crucial point in breaking down the 0.99
00:08:45.940 reason why rappers are scared of o block as the death of tuca began a long series of killings
00:08:50.240 between the black disciples and the gangster disciples rappers attacked by the old block
00:08:56.840 black disciples after the death of tuca the two gangs have been involved wait so chat wait so it's bd 0.60
00:09:03.480 versus gd right so what how far away um how many how many how far away how many blocks would you say
00:09:09.280 bd and gd are how far would you guys say
00:09:11.840 one there's literally no way you guys are being serious
00:09:18.040 there's no way it's only one block 0.92
00:09:22.700 there's actually no fucking way 0.99
00:09:27.900 that is the most sketchiest shit i've ever heard in my life so you're telling me you could be walking 1.00
00:09:38.020 your dog you cross the street nah i'm not even that's insane bro like that's actually the craziest 1.00
00:09:44.580 shit of all time what the fuck their neighbors what the fuck and multiple retaliation killings 1.00
00:09:51.880 with victims on both sides one of such victims was lil jojo the 18 year old rapper had been involved 1.00
00:09:56.960 with a feud with black disciples chief keith and lil reese jojo had aimed a couple of twitter messages
00:10:01.620 at lil reese and a number of other black disciples members although reese never responded jojo was shot
00:10:07.060 in the back when the car pulled up while he was riding a bicycle in inglewood now fans have
00:10:11.500 speculated that jojo was killed for disrespecting lil reese and chief keith were members of the
00:10:15.400 old block faction of the black disciples another rapper who was allegedly attacked by the old
00:10:19.420 black black disciples is fbg wooski wooski is a member of the flyboy gang who are allegedly 0.97
00:10:24.500 members of the gangsta disciples wooski had a deadly rivalry with king von and the duo were
00:10:29.040 allegedly involved in retaliation killings of their friends and associates according to various
00:10:33.240 reports wooski had allegedly been involved in the death of one of von's friends and von
00:10:37.620 responded by allegedly killing wooski's cousin and fans believe that von might have ordered the
00:10:41.840 shooting of wooski at the funeral of another rapper dooski the man dooski was killed in a
00:10:46.680 drive-by shooting fans even believe that von rapped about it in his song exposing me when he said
00:10:51.840 wooski got shot up right in his top now the other rappers who are mentioned in this video were killed
00:10:56.820 either after releasing the song dissing old block black disciples members or mocking the death of one
00:11:00.800 of the gang members but before we delve into that don't forget to like and subscribe to the
00:11:05.000 channel to watch more videos like this one another rapper who fans believe was killed by black 0.98
00:11:09.760 disciples members was lil mark lil mark is the brother of tuca and unfortunately this shit is 0.99
00:11:15.320 really all crazy to think about bro i'm not gonna lie this is this shit is really fucking crazy to think 0.99
00:11:19.740 about 0.99
