01:26:12.000 Nationwide, housing plummeted Housing prices have gone down 20% in the last year, and I'm advising people to take their home value when they thought it was at the highest, at the peak of this bubble, and to divide it in half.

01:26:28.000 Because I think that there are markets in the United States that are going to adjust down as far as 50%, come down 20% already.

01:26:36.000 If you thought your house was worth a million dollars, realize you're probably living in a property that's not worth much more than a half a billion dollars.

01:26:44.000 And that's at today's dollars, which are inflated.

01:26:47.000 Also, the reason I think the crisis is not yet anywhere near over, is that Credit Suisse is reporting that by December this year, 53% of the subprime borrowers are going to have negative equity in their homes.

01:27:05.000 But that percentage is going to grow.

01:27:07.000 So that by 2009, it's going to be 63%.

01:27:10.000 10% additional.

01:27:12.000 The subprime borrowers who have negative equity in their homes.

01:27:16.000 Now that's not going to stop until 80 or 90 percent of the subprime borrowers have negative equity in their homes.

01:27:24.000 That means that this crisis isn't going to bottom out until 2010 or even 2012.

01:27:31.000 And if that's the case, the drop in home values is just beginning.

01:27:36.000 And that's triggered now crises in every other market where people...

01:27:40.000 No question.

01:27:41.000 Where people are losing confidence, people are living on their credit cards now, jobs are shutting down, all sorts of businesses are going into bankruptcy, and the exodus of U.S. companies offshore is accelerating.

01:27:53.000 And also, so many of these banks now are holding these packaged mortgage securities, these collateralized mortgage securities in their asset portfolios, that when they have to be marked to market, which eventually they have to be done, I'm saying that immediately, in the next 12 to 18 months, you could have 150 more banks like IndyMac failing.

01:28:17.000 150. And to stop it, to prolong the crisis, as it were, the Fed has, I think, lent out of the discount window or the special auction about $500 billion, about half a trillion dollars, in credit and loans to these banks.

01:28:34.000 But that won't prop up their failed assets forever.

01:28:38.000 Eventually, somebody's got to take the loss on these mortgage securities.

01:28:41.000 And when they do, it's inevitable more banks are going to fail.

01:28:43.000 Well, we know who that is.

01:28:44.000 It's the American people who are going to have to pay taxes on the inflated currency and on all of...

01:28:52.000 and now you have all these foreign countries and companies and individuals dumping dollars, which is helping drive commodities upward.

So it gives them pretty broad powers to do just about anything they want in the economy.

02:16:34.000 And you'd have to challenge it effectively.

02:16:37.000 You'd have to go to the Supreme Court and they'd have to overturn existing rulings.

02:16:58.000 And there's various avenues that could take, you know, we talked last time a little bit about the fact that in the Great Depression is when you had these political movements which were led by Robert La Follette, Huey Long, and Father Coughlin, which Well, and they did in fact get some, but then World War II intervened and stopped the reform movement.

02:17:25.000 Most folks haven't even looked into all that.

02:18:00.000 Well, some of the things are, you know, fairly easy to predict, and others really aren't, and a lot of it has to do with If this were purely an economic issue, you could make fairly certain predictions about certain areas, but it's not.

02:18:19.000 So there's a lot of players and a lot of factors.

02:18:21.000 Some of the things you can predict with a reasonable degree of certitude are that as long as the U.S. government has a huge budget deficit, you're going to see the dollar devalued.

02:18:38.000 And of course, you know, right now we're running in excess of 400 billion deficit a year.

02:18:43.000 And so you're going to see the dollar continue to devalue against the euro and the other major currencies because those nations are not running such high deficits.

02:18:59.000 So, you know, that's Fairly safe bet there.

02:19:02.000 What will the impact be on in some other areas?

02:19:05.000 Well, we still have a large housing inventory.

02:19:09.000 So you're probably going to see obviously continued decline in the housing market.

02:19:18.000 The inventory would have obviously have to be absorbed in it.

02:19:22.000 You know, lately it's actually been growing and foreclosures and all are adding to that.

02:25:19.000 We need to talk about what the root of the problem is, which is the fractional reserve banking aspect of all this, because even if we cured the Federal Reserve problem, we would not cure anything if we did not fix the fractional reserve problem.

02:25:51.000 Well, the national banks that are members of the National Bank Association, and they're stockholders of the Federal Reserve banks in their regions.

02:26:07.000 So, there's five major banks that own the majority of stock in the Federal Reserve, so they essentially Control it.

02:26:16.000 And you're talking about, you know, Citibank, Chase, Morgan, Wachovia, Bank of America.

02:26:25.000 And collectively, they have over half of the deposits in the nation in their banks.

02:26:31.000 They employ over one million people directly working for their banks.

02:26:36.000 And they actually own the stock of the Federal Reserve Banks.

02:26:40.000 It is not owned by the U.S. government.

02:26:42.000 Most of your listeners know that.

02:26:44.000 And that's closed stock, too.

02:26:45.000 I can't go out and buy that.

02:26:47.000 No, by law it can only be held by the member banks.

02:26:53.000 And then those member banks appoint two-thirds of the members of the local Federal Reserve boards.

02:27:00.000 So they have control of the Federal Reserve system.

02:27:03.000 It's certainly true that the chairman of the Federal Reserve and the members of the Federal Reserve board in Washington They're nominated by the President and confirmed by Congress, but they have 14-year terms and the President can only nominate one every two years.

02:27:23.000 So even a President that was resolved to reform the Fed couldn't do so until the final year of two terms, eight years altogether.

02:27:35.000 So it's almost impervious to any form of Any of reform.

02:27:39.000 Plus the power of the banks, the presidents are generally creatures of it to begin with.

02:27:44.000 Well, some of them probably are aware that they're beholden to the banks and they really can't attack it or their political base would rapidly disappear under media assault and so forth.

02:27:55.000 That's probably true.

02:27:56.000 Some of them may want to reform it, but they just know that as a practical matter it's really impossible for them to do so.

02:28:02.000 They have to be very heroic.

02:28:04.000 They have to be prepared, you know, to go to war with the banks, like Andrew Jackson did.

02:28:09.000 And, you know, he fortunately survived an assassination attempt.

02:28:15.000 Not so many presidents lately are probably that brave.

02:28:19.000 And also, the fact is, it was a lot easier for him to fight it than it would be now.

02:28:23.000 I mean, they've been entrenched now for approaching a hundred years, so their media control and so forth is, you know, much more And the public can't even find their hind end in broad daylight, so we're in pretty bad shape.

02:28:42.000 We're about to break, but Bill, any comments on the ownership of the Federal Reserve?

02:28:48.000 No, I think Pat covered it pretty well.
