00:11:58.000 And what about practicing physicians who are in the trenches every day with patients and see where this is going?

00:12:07.000 I have to deal with insurance, public and private.

00:12:10.000 So why isn't the administration more interested in the fact that practicing physicians are having a problem with this?

00:12:15.000 We don't think that government insurance works that well.

00:12:18.000 We don't think that Medicaid works well at all.

00:12:21.000 We don't think Medicare is working very well.

00:12:28.000 I mean, how can they implement something if they can't even read what was written by special interest A, and then B, going back and backing you up?

00:12:36.000 We have them all over the news now as a mantra saying, you can't even call it socialism, or you're a racist, using the N-word.

00:12:44.000 They are weaponizing politics, terrorizing the public, and invoking racism.

00:12:50.000 They're actually the ones using race.

00:12:52.000 They're the ones that are engaging in racism, race pimping.

00:12:55.000 Well, I mean, you know, really, I think that we have to get back to basics here.

00:13:02.000 The basics are, whether they like it or not, health care and health insurance are not the same thing.

00:13:10.000 That's one of the reasons we're having the problem we're having.

00:13:14.000 They own an automobile, and they know if they bring their automobile in with a scratch, their rates are going to go up.

00:13:20.000 And if they try to bring their automobile in with a scratch too much, they're going to find out there are no repair shops around taking their insurance.

00:13:27.000 That's something we've lost sight of with health insurance.

00:13:30.000 Health insurance is the problem.

00:13:32.000 It's not the solution.

00:13:33.000 And government-run health insurance is absolutely the worst.

00:13:36.000 So it's completely disingenuous to have this discussion without looking at what real health care needs are.

00:13:44.000 And one thing is, and this is where I get very upset, there's a great shortage of physicians in the United States.

00:13:49.000 There's an estimated 40,000 primary care physicians we're going to be lacking in the next 10 years.

00:13:57.000 And you can probably triple that, given the fact that we have 78 million baby boomers coming in.

00:14:01.000 Then let's piss off physicians more. 0.96

00:14:07.000 We're only cutting benefits to the poor guy in a Medicaid clinic who's already doing cataract surgery for free and saw his reimbursements cut down from 1,700 to 500 and, you know, and has to file the paperwork with Medicaid before he can get a penny.

00:14:23.000 He can't even then afford the medical malpractice insurance.

00:14:27.000 People aren't living in the real world that don't live and work as a physician like you do.

00:14:32.000 And I think you point out the whole debates of fraud.

00:14:34.000 Back before we had medical insurance, we even had better access to health care.

00:14:39.000 It becomes just this bigger and bigger fraud, this bigger You know, People ask me all the time, why aren't doctors fighting?

00:14:56.000 I'll give you a couple of answers for that.

00:14:58.000 Number one, you're not going to believe, which is they're too busy taking care of patients.

00:15:01.000 Number two is most doctors realize that they're being steamrolled and they don't feel that there's anything to do about it, so why waste their time?

00:15:09.000 But there's going to be a rude awakening in a few years if this gets slammed down.

00:15:14.000 Doctors are going to revolt.

00:15:15.000 And I'll have to tell you, full disclosure, here's how doctors revolt.

00:15:19.000 They either drop out or they game the system.

00:15:23.000 Now, do patients want that?

00:15:24.000 Do you want to be gamed?

00:15:26.000 Do you want your doctor to drop out?

00:15:28.000 Let's deal with a real myth that you're going to get to keep the doctor you got now till he quits.

00:15:34.000 You know, great, great, great quote, get to keep the doctor you have now.

00:15:38.000 So, you know, physicians are being completely ignored in this whole discussion.

00:15:43.000 And a few of us have loud voices.

00:15:45.000 But clearly, the debate, would you have a debate about operating your train without talking about the conductor?

00:15:55.000 Would you say, let's pad the seats, let's get new dining cars?

00:16:03.000 That's like the government says they're going to put screen doors on submarines without consulting the engineer who designed the submarine.

00:16:18.000 Because everybody knows that when you go to the doctor's office, you're not meeting President Obama.

00:16:30.000 You know, doctors are not the same doctors that we were dealing with in 1964 when Medicare came down the pike.

00:16:43.000 Now, I don't happen to think the fat was chipped off the bone in the right way.

00:16:56.000 They're working their butts off.

02:11:31.000 And in the last 30 years, really, since the time of Reagan, and this has happened under both Democrats and Republicans, but it really started with Reagan, it's taken this trend toward this very mutant, viral form of capitalism, which is extremely greedy and extremely special.

02:11:48.000 The form of capitalism that came out of Milton Friedman, the economist from the University of Chicago, and Reagan bought into it big time, and every president since has bought into it.

02:11:59.000 Well, wasn't the coup de grace in 99 with the Glass-Steagall act that Bill Clinton got rid of?

02:12:07.000 There's no question about it, but that's just sort of like the frosting on the cake.

02:12:12.000 Yeah, actually, when I went to business school, I don't Yeah,

02:13:59.000 I mean, if they can just create trillions in made-up derivatives and then have the central governments bail them out when they're using the money to then go loan it at loan-sharking rates to third-world countries, third-world people, the American people, I mean, that's sick!

02:14:14.000 We give them the government-backed loans, they then leverage it, fractional reserve it, and then we pay interest to the banks on our money they loan back to us.

02:14:25.000 I mean, is that a good way of boiling it down?

02:14:27.000 That certainly is, and it is piracy, there's no question about it.

02:14:31.000 And we must turn it around, Alex, and that's really a large part of Foot Wing, is what we can do, what you and I and all your listeners can do.

02:14:40.000 We can take control of One of the things that we have to understand is that the big corporations, the banks and the other corporations that are behind this, are very beholden to us.

02:15:22.000 It's not a model that you can give to China or India or Latin America or Africa.

02:15:27.000 You'd need another 5 or 6 planets with all our resources and no people to be able to use this as a model for other people.

02:15:34.000 So what we're seeing is a totally failed system.

02:15:37.000 And we must understand that for our sake, for our children's sake, and our grandchildren's sake, John Perkins, I want to get into that area because I agree with you on so much, but I also disagree with you in some areas because we know we do have a wasteful form of life, lifestyle.

02:16:02.000 We know we're 4% of the world's population in the U.S. and we use roughly half the world's resources.

02:16:07.000 And we know there's a lot of toxic waste associated with that and a lot of problems.

02:16:12.000 But the way I see government addressing that, and the big megacorporations addressing it, is by haunt showing and steering the environmental movement to simply set up new taxes and control to further vertically integrate the consolidation of power in this new phase of robber baron colonialism because they fundamentally know that there is a certain truth to what's happening to the environment on many And so

02:16:42.000 they wrap the truth around their overall lie of this new bank of the world, global government, paying carbon taxes to the new bank of the world.

02:16:54.000 I mean really it's going from the robber barons going in and economic hitmanning third world countries under their control to now just setting up a planetary regime under the environment.

02:17:05.000 Because they know at a base level that makes sense in people's ingrained humanity to be good stewards of the land.

02:17:14.000 And the way that they distort the truth and, you know, move groups.

02:17:18.000 So today we've got this huge grassroots movement basically supported by the insurance industry and the pharmaceutical industry opposing any kind of real insurance for people that don't have insurance.

02:17:31.000 We've got the corporations out there making it One amazing instance of this is what's just happened in Honduras,

02:17:47.000 where a democratically elected president was overthrown by a military regime that was under the control of the CIA and big American corporate interests, the big agribusinesses, Dole and Chiquita, Kraft Cargo, as well as the textile industry.

02:20:03.000 So if, in fact, Honduras or Haiti increases their minimum wage, then Ecuador and Nicaragua and El Salvador and every other country in the southern hemisphere has to increase its wages to stay above those because no one wants to go below those countries.

02:20:19.000 So it wasn't just about Honduras any more than it was just about Haiti.

02:20:23.000 It was about drawing a line in the sand and saying, we are not going to permit this to happen.

02:20:29.000 And I think we have to understand that there's a revolution going on in Latin America.

02:20:33.000 Ten countries representing more than 80% of the population of South America have voted in in the last few years progressive presidents who are saying no more exploitation by these foreign corporations.

02:20:46.000 countries. And every one of these countries, Alex, during most of my lifetime was run by brutal dictators who were under the control of the CIA and big corporations.

02:39:39.000 It's just another instance, Alex, of how ingrained all of this is in all of our governments, whether we have Democrats in there, including the most liberal Democrat we've had, the current one, Obama, or whether we have conservative Republicans like Bush.

02:40:00.000 We're seeing this over and over and over again.

02:40:04.000 And so you've got guys like Cheney, you've got guys like all the cabinet members you mentioned earlier, who now are trying not to be found guilty of being involved in assassination attempts.

02:40:15.000 But the fact of the matter is, all these people at the top of government came out of the big corporations.

02:40:20.000 It's a revolving door thing.

02:40:22.000 And so whether it's Democrats or Republicans, you've got people that are constantly at the top.

02:40:29.000 Sure. Because whether they're working for the government or whether they're working for private corporations I saw him getting four-plus times the money that McCain got.

02:40:49.000 I wasn't supporting McCain either.

02:40:50.000 I just was clear he was the anointed one.

02:40:53.000 But I do have to give credit when I do occasionally see it.

02:40:58.000 Panetta did scurry over immediately to Congress within days of getting in and said, look, they just admitted to me they've got all these head squads.

02:42:17.000 In the case of a guy like Obama, he's tried to institute some environmental laws that are decent, and he's tried to do things with health insurance, but he keeps running up against very, very powerful forces of resistance.

02:42:35.000 We the people.

02:42:36.000 We have to stand up to corporations and say, listen, I'm not buying from Dole or Chiquita.

02:43:26.000 Now, organics, even in small towns, because people demanded it and then built a market, buying local is getting bigger and bigger.

02:43:52.000 We didn't get rid of slavery in this country because Abraham Lincoln found himself in the White House.

02:44:03.000 Women didn't get the right to vote because Woodrow Wilson was pro-suffrage. 0.99

02:44:11.000 And then when Wilson was president, he constantly was out on the road speaking about how we needed to get involved in World War I, how we needed to defend democracy in Europe.

02:44:19.000 Women met him at every place he went holding up huge placards that said, why should we defend democracy in Europe when half of our population in the United States can't vote?

02:44:28.000 So finally, Woodrow Wilson came around.

02:44:33.000 We didn't get out of Vietnam because Richard Nixon was anti-war.

02:45:18.000 John, I agree with you on that front, and I believe you're coming at this from a good perspective, that you're a good guy, that you have changed your ways.

02:45:33.000 We have to make sure we're not part of the fake corporate clone or counterfeit where they try to get control of our grassroots movements and then say use environmental laws to take farms and ranches or restrict people. Take Austin.

02:45:50.000 I've watched them with smart growth take farms and ranches, not let people build on it.

02:45:54.000 And then 10 years later, they build shopping malls on it and skyscrapers.

02:45:59.000 So I also see the environmental movement run by the big banks, by the very economic pirate ships, you know, these corporations bigger than most governments.

02:46:09.000 And so, yes, I know there's real environmental problems.

02:46:11.000 I don't want to drink poison water.

02:46:13.000 I don't want to drink poison air, breathe poison air.

02:46:17.000 I don't want to cut down rainforest.

02:46:19.000 I don't want to, you know, live off the backs of starving people in Peru.

02:46:23.000 But at the same time, It's a big job to navigate this and try to figure out what's real and what isn't and how do you not get co-opted.

02:46:33.000 I mean, because it sounds great to take Ecuador and say they have a constitution saying that they're going to give trees and animals rights, but then I always see that Well, you're right about that,

02:47:03.000 but yeah.

02:47:04.000 But, you know, I think that we can see beyond a great deal of that.

02:47:10.000 We can see that there They're using their powers and abusing it.

02:47:14.000 We can see this in the way they take care of themselves.

02:47:17.000 I do a lot of speaking at business schools these days, which I find ironic that business schools even invite me to speak.

02:47:22.000 I wrote a book called Confessions of an Economic Kid, man.

02:47:24.000 But the kids in these business schools, many of them are really interested in some of these subjects.

02:47:29.000 And one of the things I keep running into is some of the icons that are held out there.

02:47:33.000 A guy named Jack Welch, who was CEO of General Electric, is held out as this great icon because he made his corporation lean and mean, Which means he laid off a quarter of GE's people, put them out on the street, but at the same time he paid himself huge bonuses and salary increases.

02:47:50.000 And he also took GE away from manufacturing things good, being a manufacturing firm, into being a financial paper trading firm, which is one of the things that drove us into the financial crisis.

02:48:01.000 Yeah, it's engaged in derivatives, that's right.

02:48:04.000 How do we, yeah, so how do we hold a guy like that out as an icon in our business schools?

02:48:08.000 We should not.

02:48:09.000 And I think if we really open our hearts to these things, we understand that.

02:48:15.000 We've got to turn this thing.

02:48:32.000 In fact, I talk so much about the map-making of the mind or blueprints in the mind, how the establishment builds these, and I'm not saying Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods Well,

02:50:10.000 and I guess all of us have to not buy it while they do that, but Tiger Woods has been interviewed how he isn't involved in any politics, in any policies, in any charities, really, except for some charity for college dealing with golf.

02:50:31.000 He thinks it's like a good thing and the corporations just worship him because he is cold-blooded.

02:50:37.000 And I can't imagine having a hundred million dollars a year based on people dying of diseases in sweatshops, in these horrible malaria-infested camps, and maquiladoras. 0.98
