01:15:51.000 There is a major proxy war that will divide Syria into the northern part, either Kurds or northern Turkey.

01:16:09.000 The Israelis are now, for the first time, in real trouble since they've been in 1948, where three elements, three different borders, the northern border and Lebanon is exposed because Hezbollah is a proxy for Iran.

01:16:27.000 And on the southern border, as many of you know in your audience, you have the Egyptian military now fighting Al-Qaeda and Salafis units at Saudi Arabia.

01:16:37.000 So Israel, for the first time, is confronting three borders of enemies and has to decide what kind of a war it will implement and what kind of covert actions they will get involved with.

01:16:49.000 Right now, they are supporting the Saudi Arabians and the Salafis in Syria, but that can switch very quickly against Israel.

01:26:36.000 What happened is the CIA rightfully, wrongfully, 20, 30 years ago, and I agreed with what they did initially, was to use al-Qaeda, although I warned them of the blowback, to fight the Afghanis and the Russians.

01:26:56.000 The problem is that every successful operation, you create your own destruction years later, and it's untoward consequences.

01:28:00.000 We have a good ally in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Dubai.

01:28:04.000 The issue then becomes, in those allies fighting Syria, do we have a national security interest?

01:28:13.000 Our national security interest has shifted correctly, as Hillary Clinton said, to the Pacific Ocean, where we do have an expansive China, which is economically threatening us at many different levels, and they have a potential coup. 0.74

01:28:36.000 The Middle East is strictly a war between Shiites or Tsunis?

01:28:45.000 My suspicion is within time, due to diplomacy and covert operations, we will probably work with both sides, Shiite and Sunni.

01:28:54.000 The problem will be for Israel to decide how it can maintain its viability in a world where it no longer becomes a prominent power.

01:29:05.000 They can't sustain it.

01:29:09.000 So the question then becomes, From a body politic point of view, what can Israel do versus their northern border, their eastern border, and their southern border?

01:29:24.000 But the notion that's being propagated, not on your show, but in the media, on CNN and elsewhere, that these fighters are fighting for democracy is absurd!

01:29:37.000 The question becomes again and again, what is the United States' basic interest?

01:35:37.000 Syria is the fighting ground where Iran basically said, we Shiites, we're a minority, but we want to be the majority.

01:35:44.000 We'll fight Saudi Arabia, which controls the oil, and we want to be the predominant power. 1.00

01:35:49.000 Caught in between all of this, it's Israel which says in effect, oh my God, Four Israeli pilots flew against Iraqi pilots, which we really flew for. 0.64

01:36:04.000 So, the war in 1989 between Iraq and Iran was really instigated by the United States and Israel to deplete the forces of both Iran and Iraq.

01:36:14.000 Our national security interest at that time was to deplete Iraqi forces.

01:36:19.000 We then went in mistakenly, thanks to Cheney, who called this president the worst president of the United States.

01:36:25.000 He has the gall to do that.

01:36:27.000 It's one of the worst vice presidents in the history of our country.

01:36:30.000 He went to war and lied and sent troops in.

01:36:33.000 And now we are paying the price of having created a disturbance in Iraq, which is now falling apart, where we put Shiites in charge. 1.00

01:36:43.000 And the Sunnis, which were a minority, I don't want to get confused, are fighting in Syria to take over Syria.

01:36:50.000 And then they will fight, come back to Iraq and reinstigate another wars. 0.94

01:36:55.000 So basically, our national security interest, from the point of view, what do we have best I'm interested in the Middle East.

01:37:01.000 At this point, honestly, the best thing we can do is to get out of there because it's not to our interest.

01:37:07.000 It's a war between the Shiites and the Sunnis. 0.97

01:37:10.000 The major interest that's here is an issue of Christianity.

01:37:14.000 I'm concerned, and I've said it repeatedly to the Coptic Christians in Egypt and the United States, that you are in danger of having Sharia. 1.00

01:37:28.000 And the same issue for me is in Syria, where Bashir Assad is literally, and so are the Soviets, the Russians, are protecting the Christians.

01:37:37.000 So, the issue of Christianity is becoming paramount and no one is discussing it.

01:37:42.000 And I'm quite frankly tired of keeping on saying Christianity is a problem here, and we do have an interest in maintaining the viability of the Christians in Syria and in Egypt.

01:37:55.000 We can do that by supporting Assad, Unfortunately, we don't have a choice as to democracy or non-democracy, and quite frankly, Russia, who I worked against, is also protecting the Christians. 0.89

01:38:07.000 From my point of view, the Christian viability is far more important to our national interest than any financial interest.

01:38:14.000 There are no bankers who are interested in this.

01:38:17.000 Let me just say, the Soviets, quite frankly, are owed 10 billion dollars now by Syria, and Syria's not paying them for the armaments.

01:38:24.000 So, Russia is going into debt, and being tied down in the Mediterranean.

01:38:29.000 Which, from a strategic point of view, I'm very happy.

01:38:32.000 But I'm also pleased that at least Putin is willing to protect the Christians.

01:38:38.000 And I know you famously worked against the Russians, I mean to get it... That's correct. 1.00
