01:43:30.000 But for some reason, they separate them from all the other ones because, number one, they're legal.

01:43:37.000 Well, tobacco and alcohol causes much damage or more damage than all the, quote, illegal drugs do combined.

01:43:45.000 More people die from alcohol and tobacco every year than what die from any of these other drugs.

01:43:51.000 In fact, illegal drugs, medical prescription drugs, more people die from those.

01:43:57.000 Overdoses of drugs you get from your doctor than die from these alleged illegal recreational drugs.

01:44:06.000 And the point of the matter is, if you live in a free society, drug addiction is a medical problem.

01:44:13.000 Why we have chose to make it a criminal problem, I have no idea.

01:44:18.000 Why we somehow think you should take an addict and throw them in prison is beyond me.

01:44:24.000 You can achieve so much more by legalizing it, taxing it, using those revenues, then you get a hold on who the addicts are and you can attempt to cure them.

01:44:37.000 You can attempt to make them good citizens who are productive again.

01:44:43.000 And they won't have to be out facing buying addictive substances that are charged ten times more than what they should cost.

01:44:53.000 And that leads to other crime.

01:44:55.000 If an addict has to fulfill his addiction and the price is ten times, you don't see people robbing stores at gunpoint to get money for tobacco and alcohol.

01:45:06.000 Well, the same thing would hold true if the other drugs are put at a decent price You put them in hospitals and in pharmacies and places.

01:45:16.000 You don't sell them in 7-Eleven stores, but you put them in places where people can come, admit their addiction, be able to buy what they need.

01:45:25.000 Then you at least get a grasp on, okay, now can we wean this person off of the drug?

01:45:31.000 And I think that in nine times out of ten, the addict would go for that.

01:45:36.000 The addict would go to stop being controlled by this drug.

01:45:40.000 But the only way that's going to happen is through legalization.

01:45:44.000 It's not going to happen through prohibition.

01:45:46.000 And people need to wake up to that fact.
