00:01:16.000 1466, would prohibit U.S.

00:01:19.000 spooks from plating back doors into technology, as well as provide extended protections for whistleblowers such as Edward Snowden.

00:01:27.000 In addition to repealing the Patriot Act, The legislation would also abolish the 2008 FISA Amendments Act, which the NSA has largely used to claim its mass spying programs are legal.

00:01:39.000 HR 1466 states that any future snooping involving American citizens would be subject to strict oversight.

00:01:46.000 and require warrants in all cases as well as probable cause.

00:01:51.000 The legislation would also prohibit the government from forcing tech companies to install backdoors in their products to enable NSA surveillance.

00:01:59.000 Surveillance law enforcement lobbying groups have been pushing for some time, while security experts and those within the tech sector claim the NSA backdoors will have disastrous consequences.

00:02:11.000 The new legislation would also provide for an independent controller to receive complaints from whistleblowers and to protect them by reporting any valid information to Congress on their behalf.

00:02:22.000 Unfortunately, the bill stands very little chance of passing given that so many bought and paid for representatives in Congress largely support the unconstitutional Patriot Act because their hands are tied by special interests and their minds clouded by hubris.

00:02:40.000 There is too much money in this process of doing bulk acquisition of data.

00:02:45.000 That's their motive, to keep having the money flow and keep that going.

00:02:53.000 Changing that particular procedure is rather difficult, even within government, because this money comes out and goes to corporations that are in the constituent areas of the representatives and senators.

00:03:03.000 So they have a vested interest in also keeping this going.

00:03:07.000 So the only way to do it is to raise up as a public.

00:03:09.000 We have to start standing up as Americans.

00:03:11.000 Americans aren't supposed to sit back and let things happen and let government do what it does.

00:03:20.000 We have to be participating in our democracy and republic.

00:03:24.000 We cannot sit by and let these things happen and be quiet.

00:03:26.000 If we do, we're going to get this totalitarian state that we're sliding toward right now.

00:03:36.000 And the power is to talk to your representatives and senators and complain to them and make sure that this is a major concern to you.

00:04:02.000 They simply say they're assuming, because now if you're not complaining, they're assuming that you're okay with everything they do or they feel they can do anything and the country will accept it.

02:34:47.000 But I want to talk about the real things we know about why is diabetes exploding, and then what can you do?

02:34:53.000 Because there's a lot of evidence I have seen that if you do it early enough, there is a lot you can do to reverse it, but I don't think there's a silver bullet.

02:35:00.000 In fact, before we get to statins, let's hit diabetes first.

02:35:03.000 A, why is it exploding?

02:35:04.000 And from your deep research, which I really trust, what is the truth, the scoop on managing and reversing type 2 diabetes?

02:35:13.000 Well, I don't know that we can identify one specific variable as responsible for the explosion of diabetes, but there's a number of important factors.

02:35:22.000 And one of them is one that I mentioned earlier, is this massive increase in the use of glyphosate to the tune of a billion pounds a year.

02:35:29.000 Because it kills the gut bacteria, gut bacteria responsible for producing tryptophan.

02:35:34.000 and making this essential amino acid.

02:35:36.000 So that reduction goes down.

02:35:38.000 Tryptophan is converted to IGF-1 or insulin growth factor 1, which impairs insulin resistance.

02:35:42.000 So there's a direct connection there.

02:36:47.000 Ultimately, your body produces the disease, and the mistake of using supplements is like, it's the same allopathic strategy that traditional conventional medicine uses, in that they have a drug to treat the symptoms.

02:39:26.000 And now they want to put them in the water supply or even make kids take them.

02:39:30.000 Dr. Mercola, what's going on with the statins?

02:39:33.000 Well, it's based on this flawed premise, the cholesterol hypothesis, which was started by Ancel Keys in the 50s, and literally persisted for more than half a century.

02:39:42.000 And based on that, the pharmaceutical companies were able to develop a strategy that does indeed effectively lower cholesterol, lowers it very effectively.

02:39:54.000 But does that necessarily mean it's good for you?

02:39:55.000 No.

02:39:56.000 Most of the studies show that it actually, you know, these studies, there's another Interesting book that I just finished last week called Doctored Data that gives people the tools to understand how to dissect these studies that are fraudulently presented as evidence of the efficacy of these strategies that are being recommended and prescribed on a regular basis.

02:40:17.000 I don't know if you're aware of this Alex, but one in four Americans over the age of 40, one in four are taking statin drugs.

02:40:25.000 It's insane!

02:40:26.000 It's 25% of the population.

02:40:29.000 They're giving them out like candy.

02:40:30.000 And in almost none of those cases, very, very rare exception, even then you can make an argument that justifies not using them.

02:40:38.000 They're just not needed.

02:40:39.000 Because your body, it requires cholesterol.

02:40:42.000 It's a normal part of the process to stay healthy.

02:40:43.000 Isn't most of your brain made up of cholesterol?

02:40:47.000 It's made up of fat.

02:40:47.000 The majority of your brain is made up of fat, and cholesterol is a large portion of that.

02:40:52.000 But, in fact, some of the studies that were used to support the benefit of lowering cholesterol, if you look at them more carefully and tease out the details, you'll find that the people with the highest cholesterol were people who lived the longest.

02:41:07.000 Especially with older people.

02:41:08.000 So, I mean, they've totally distorted it.

02:41:09.000 My uncle was in a motorcycle accident and has epilepsy.

02:41:14.000 I mean, 20 years ago.

02:41:16.000 They told him, they knew, they said, start eating really fatty diets of these healthy fats.

02:41:21.000 And his epilepsy got like 80% better because he just started, he was trying to do a non-fat diet or low-fat diet to be healthy.

02:41:28.000 And then it was like, oh my God, his epilepsy got a lot better once he started eating fat.

02:41:32.000 Well, there's a strategy called the ketogenic diet, which, you know, is useful for some diseases like intractable seizures.

02:41:39.000 So, when you go on healthy fats, not fried foods and bacon, but healthy fats like avocados, coconut oil, butter, egg yolks, macadamia nuts, almonds, not almonds, but pecans.

02:41:52.000 So, these are healthy fats that are low in protein.

02:41:55.000 You know, and the other thing that diabetic person said is that people can eat 24 eggs a day and be healthy to prevent Alzheimer's.

02:42:03.000 Now, you know, I'm a huge fan of eggs.

02:42:07.000 I think they're one of the healthiest foods on the planet.

02:42:08.000 But 24 is a little bit excessive.

02:42:10.000 There's seven grams of protein in an egg.

02:42:13.000 So you're looking at 150 grams of protein, which is probably more than twice as much protein as people need to eat a day.

02:42:18.000 I think 20 is what Schwarzenegger would eat when he was like world champion.

02:42:21.000 Yeah, and that's fine.

02:42:23.000 If you're using it for a specific purpose, like competitive bodybuilding, you could justify But the average person is not doing that, and their protein requirements are far closer to 50 than 150 grams a day.

02:42:34.000 And excess of anything that's good is going to be a problem, including eggs.

02:42:39.000 So they're great.

02:42:39.000 I try to have a dozen or two dozen a week, but certainly not two dozen a day.

02:42:44.000 You know, you've got to keep things in balance and perspective.

02:42:48.000 Well, I tell you, what about alcohol?

02:42:49.000 What's your view on alcohol?

02:42:51.000 That's an interesting question.

02:42:53.000 There's so much controversy on it because there's a lot of studies that show, especially red wine, that it's useful to decrease many diseases.

02:43:00.000 Then there's other studies that say that alcohol in any amount is a problem.

02:43:05.000 I think, you know, as long as it's part of a balanced diet, that you're really, you're not insulin resistant, you're eating lots of good vegetables, you're exercising, you're sleeping, you're doing a lot of things right, in moderation it's probably okay.

02:43:18.000 So you had a couple glasses of red wine a week, probably good for you.

02:43:22.000 I don't know that it is good or good.

02:43:24.000 It isn't good, but what I can be very confident of, if your other lifestyle strategies are healthy, then if it's not beneficial, your body can overcome that and compensate for it.

02:43:35.000 What did you think of the UT study?

02:43:36.000 It was a big one that came out last year, and it showed that people, A, that have, I think it was like two drinks a day.

02:43:44.000 Had a higher IQ.

02:43:45.000 I'm not saying it gave them a higher IQ.

02:43:46.000 They just higher IQ, made more money, and lived longer.

02:43:50.000 I don't recall the study, and as I said, the studies are so you have to look at the funding source, how they did it, how they picked their I think it was Anheuser-Busch.

02:44:01.000 It was a correlated study.

02:44:03.000 But there's a whole social aspect to drinking alcohol.

02:44:06.000 And being social itself and relationships is a strong variable in improving healthy lifespan.

02:44:23.000 Sure, so it's the having fun that might be making you live longer, not the drinking itself.

02:44:27.000 Yeah, that is certainly a possibility, and I haven't studied it carefully enough to definitively give you an answer on that.

02:44:35.000 Moderate drinking helps middle-aged and older people live longer.

02:44:57.000 I mean, I think I read that on Mercola like 15 years ago.

02:45:01.000 Well, that's an herb that has been shown to be useful in the treatment of some problems of depression, and there are other herbal strategies.
