00:00:00.000 From Euclid, until the Muslim Empire, they didn't understand mathematics, they didn't understand geometry, they didn't understand physics, they didn't understand astrology without the Muslim influence in Europe in the Middle Ages. 0.99
00:00:20.000 The Western Civilization took a step backwards when the Muslims were thrown out of Spain in 1492. 0.71
00:00:28.000 What is your background? Are you Jew?
00:00:30.000 Yes.
00:00:31.000 Do you mind, as a Jewish, do you know historically that the Jewish have been saved by the Muslims in Spain?
00:00:36.000 That is then. That is not necessarily now. For reasons that we best know.
00:00:42.000 Because most of the people, they don't know about this. Could you tell us a bit about it?
00:00:46.000 Well, because they don't learn history.
00:00:48.000 What happened exactly?
00:00:50.000 And they don't bloody will read. I'm sorry, sir.
00:00:53.000 They should read and know the tourists go to Spain. Do they look at Seville? Do they look at the Alhambra?
00:01:02.000 Do they not see the effect on Spanish architecture of the Muslim architects? Southern France is the same thing. 0.94
00:01:12.000 So, basically, the Jewish, at that time, they survived, which we know today, through the Muslim umbrella.
00:01:18.000 And we started to have a hard time in Europe when the Muslim empire retreated. 1.00
00:01:24.000 Most of the people, they don't know. That's why we're going to put this...
00:01:27.000 The Europeans don't know it. Yeah, that's right. 0.99
00:01:30.000 Do you know why? Could you tell us why?
00:01:32.000 They don't want to know it.
00:01:33.000 That's the reason of it. Or maybe because of the history has been hidden of them.
00:01:37.000 Do you know there were Muslim members of the UK Parliament at the time of Queen Victoria and Edward VII?
00:01:47.000 They sat over here as free people. A lot of people don't know that either.
00:01:53.000 You look up under about Marmonides. He was the leading civil servant of the Caliphs in Spain.
00:02:03.000 He was one of those strange fellows who was a polymath.
00:02:07.000 Okay.
00:02:08.000 He was a mathematician. He was a doctor. He was a poet. He was an astrologer.
00:02:13.000 You often wondered why he had time to sleep.
00:02:17.000 Sorry, you have a lot of knowledge. Do you want to ask you, how old are you, if you don't mind?
00:02:20.000 I'm old enough to be your grandfather.
00:02:22.000 I can tell you, you have a lot of historical knowledge, which is...
00:02:25.000 I'm 76 and a half.
00:02:27.000 I see, I see, I see.
00:02:29.000 They ask you, do you have a Quran at home? Do you have a copy from...
00:02:31.000 I have a Quran at home.
00:02:32.000 Oh, that's good. So...
00:02:34.000 I can't read it in Arabic for obvious reasons. I have to read it in English.
00:02:38.000 So do you have the English version or you have...
00:02:40.000 Yes, I have the English version.
00:02:41.000 Oh, good, good. So you advise people to look to the Quran as well?
00:02:43.000 And I read it. I read everything.
00:02:45.000 Oh, that's good, that's good, that's good. Happy to meet you, sir?
00:02:48.000 Happy to meet you, too.
00:02:50.000 We appreciate your time.
00:02:51.000 Yeah. And am I now a film star?
00:02:53.000 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:02:54.000 Am I?
00:02:55.000 Yeah.
00:02:56.000 How do you regard, you know, Islam and the Muslim world nowadays?
00:02:58.000 It's being very negatively stereotyped.
00:03:00.000 Well, look, I'm actually, interestingly enough, as an Orthodox Jew, a great champion of Islam.
00:03:04.000 The fact is that the Jewish community has a real debt to the Islamic community 0.98
00:03:08.000 because when we were kicked out of Catholic Spain in 1492,
00:03:13.000 when we were kicked out of Catholic Portugal, I think in 1503,
00:03:16.000 it was the Muslims who took the Jews in. 0.87
00:03:18.000 That's why there were Jewish communities in the Islamic world until this very day.
00:03:20.000 The Islamic community, the Jewish community of Istanbul dates from then.
00:03:23.000 It was specifically countries beyond the Ottoman Empire
00:03:29.000 where Jews were tolerated and they were welcomed in.
00:03:32.000 And they paid a jizya, there was a poll tax they paid, but they were never persecuted,
00:03:35.000 and there wasn't a Holocaust in the Islamic world.
00:03:37.000 The fact is that Jews and Muslims have so much in common.
00:03:40.000 Very often I meet Muslims here in the United States,
00:03:42.000 and my first expression to them is one of sympathy,
00:03:44.000 that I honor you for celebrating your faith.
00:03:47.000 I don't know that you scripture, but I wanted to deny you men weapons, 1.00
00:03:49.000 it's immediately broken down for example.
00:03:50.000 But if you don't have like foodier is becoming whatever most proteins

00:03:55.000 I would like to hit that aside instead!
00:03:57.000 If you don't have shilly words, you're talking about a difficult position of people in other states,
00:04:00.000 including the Lee Samuel Taylor,
00:04:02.000 in West Virginia did not have really gustado me.
00:04:03.000 I want to talk to him and say the() folks can be educational.
00:04:06.000 Why don't you go?
00:04:08.000 But who screwed up if you don't have something to do before?
00:04:10.000 And with that, you know the truth,
00:04:11.000 So someone used to flop.
00:04:12.000 That was desperate.
00:04:13.000 I want to bring someSi and the Jews and the right away Mission, 1.00
