03:52:13.000 And I would say this is the period of the Gaza peace deal, the 20-point plan, the October peace, whatever you want to call it.

03:52:22.000 We're clearly in a distinct phase.

03:52:23.000 It's not the terminal phase, not the final phase.

03:52:26.000 We're in a new phase in the Middle East conflict, specifically in the Gaza war, ever since there is apparently an agreement in place between Israel and Hamas, which was imposed upon them, apparently, by Trump.

03:52:39.000 And the reason I say apparently is because I don't believe that this deal is what it's cracked up to be.

03:52:48.000 And I've told you why.

03:52:50.000 We're not going to get into the details of that tonight.

03:52:53.000 But I continue to believe that this is a strategic pause in the fighting.

03:52:57.000 This is not an end to the fighting.

03:52:59.000 I don't even think it's really a ceasefire because they're still fighting each other.

03:53:04.000 This looks to me like a tactical retreat, a strategic pause for Israel while they do other things, while they regroup to do other things, or while they're simultaneously doing other things.

03:53:18.000 But basically, everything that is being said about all of it is a lie.

03:53:22.000 So Netanyahu says we're not going to annex the West Bank.

03:53:26.000 That's a lie.

03:53:27.000 I'm telling you right now, that is a lie.

03:53:32.000 And they say they're going to fully withdraw from the Gaza Strip and they're going to hand off administration of the strip to some coalition government.

03:53:52.000 So I think this conflict is far from over.

03:54:01.000 And I think the broader Middle Eastern conflict in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran, that is far from over.

03:54:09.000 So that's why I'm choosing my words carefully.

03:54:13.000 I don't want to say we're in the period of the peace deal.

03:54:16.000 This is it.

03:54:17.000 It's a new, because it's not.

03:54:19.000 And we talked a lot about that earlier in the week.

03:54:23.000 When you understand that Israel's strategic objectives, that their grand strategy, it is contrary to peace. 0.71

03:54:32.000 Their doctrine is that they literally cannot allow peace to break out.

03:54:39.000 They rely on a constant low-level state of conflict and fighting to suppress their neighbors and also to preserve their freedom of action.

03:54:52.000 If there is a ceaseless state of conflict, you know, no ceasefire, but it's without ceasing, then they can violate the airspace continuously and at random and at their discretion.

03:55:05.000 Then they can advance with ground forces or special forces at their discretion, as they are talking about doing in Lebanon right now, as they are talking about doing in Syria and currently doing in Syria right now.

03:55:20.000 That is the goal.

03:55:22.000 So we have to be very careful how we look at this situation.

03:55:26.000 Don't be under the illusion because of the headlines that we're in some new chapter based on peace and prosperity.

03:55:34.000 That's all propaganda.

03:55:35.000 And I'll tell you why that is.

03:55:37.000 Tonight, we're going to talk a little bit about all of these visits that are taking place.

03:55:42.000 As I said, two weeks ago, there is this ostensible agreement in place between Israel and Hamas.

03:55:48.000 Israel appears to be scaling back its operations in Gaza.

03:55:52.000 There do not appear to be any ground operations ongoing.

03:55:55.000 They have withdrawn from certain key corridors and from certain cities.

03:56:00.000 They are continuing to bomb Gaza and restrict aid from getting in.

03:56:06.000 So that's why I would characterize it more as a tactical retreat or a strategic pause, because there is still fighting.

03:56:14.000 They are still restricting aid and resources.

03:56:17.000 It's just that their ground operations have been wound down, maybe temporarily.

03:56:23.000 And so that happened a couple of weeks ago.

03:56:27.000 In the meantime, and maybe I've been alluding to this, Israel has violated the ceasefire over 80 times, most notably this past weekend, when Israel claims that Hamas attacked the IDF in three different locations, killing several IDF soldiers, and Israel retaliated with a series of airstrikes, killing hundreds of people, causing hundreds of casualties.

03:56:52.000 And it brought the total number of violations of the ceasefire to over 80.

03:56:56.000 They're also, like I said, not allowing all of the humanitarian aid into the strip.

03:57:03.000 So this is where it stands in Gaza.

03:57:06.000 This is where it stands in the Middle East.

03:57:08.000 The Organization for Islamic Cooperation, which is all the Muslim countries, and the Arab League, which is all the Arab countries, they all got together and endorsed this deal.

03:57:18.000 The deal was brokered by Qatar, arguably imposed by the United States because they ran out of patience with Israel after Israel bombed the Hamas negotiators in Qatar weeks before that.

03:57:30.000 This is where we are.

03:57:31.000 Now, this week, what is notable is that there has been a nonstop procession of American diplomatic personnel visiting Israel.

03:57:40.000 And early in the week, it was Jared Kushner, who was the president's son-in-law, but he was instrumental in brokering the deal and the original Abraham Accords because of his ties, not just to Israel, but to the Gulf countries, which are very rich.

03:57:56.000 And also Steve Witkoff, the special envoy for the president.

03:58:01.000 And Witkoff, too, has significant financial ties to the Arab Gulf countries, to in particular Qatar.

03:58:08.000 So they went to Israel first.

03:58:10.000 Then there was a visit from the vice president J.D. Vance, who was there yesterday.

03:58:17.000 And he visited with Netanyahu and he visited some of the churches and holy sites.

03:58:22.000 Now, today, the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has arrived in Israel where he's meeting with his counterparts and he's doing the tour in Israel.

03:58:32.000 And so you have to ask yourself, what is going on?

03:58:34.000 Why is this happening?

03:58:37.000 Wouldn't you expect to see this before the deal was completed rather than after?

03:58:41.000 We have a deal in place.

03:58:43.000 So shouldn't everybody be going home and going somewhere else?

03:58:48.000 Well, the reason that they're doing it this way, it's sort of obvious.

03:58:52.000 It's intentional.

03:58:54.000 They're making sure that every single day this week, there is a major diplomatic official from the United States on the ground in Israel.

03:59:04.000 Surely the significance is not lost on anybody, that every single day this week, someone has been there.

03:59:11.000 Witkoff and Kushner, the vice president, the Secretary of State, every day they made sure, and not just low-level officials, bear in mind, there's already 200 American soldiers in Israel that are there to monitor the deal.

03:59:26.000 So Vance and Rubio, these are very high-level.

03:59:29.000 This is the vice president and the secretary of state.

03:59:32.000 This is your arguably your number two and three in government.

03:59:38.000 And they are there in a staggered way throughout the week, in addition to the actual American operators on the ground, which are there to oversee the return of the hostages and the prisoner exchange in a logistical capacity.

03:59:54.000 But you also have the high-level personnel.

03:59:56.000 And the reason they are there, according to the press, and everyone is noticing this, is to babysit Israel. 0.88

04:00:04.000 They are there as a form of soft pressure.

04:00:10.000 Because the calculation is that if Rubio or Vance or Witkoff is actually on the ground in Israel, then Netanyahu would be too embarrassed or too ashamed or might feel in a way pressured not to restart the war.

04:00:29.000 The deal is two weeks old.

04:00:31.000 The deal's been in place for, I think, just shy of three weeks, about two and a half weeks.

04:00:37.000 And after the hostilities over the weekend, which is critical to the timeline here, after the hostilities this weekend, where Hamas is mounting some attacks, they're not giving up all their weapons pursuant to the deal, and that hasn't really been discussed yet.

04:00:53.000 Israel hit back really hard.

04:00:56.000 Hamas is accusing them of violating the deal.

04:00:58.000 It's in the context of the ceasefire basically falling apart immediately that they are there to make sure that Netanyahu doesn't pull out.

04:01:07.000 And the message is something like: if you pull out, we will be very unhappy.

04:01:14.000 There's not actually a credible threat there.

04:01:16.000 And there's something pathetic about this.

04:01:20.000 And think about it in this way.

04:01:22.000 So we'll talk about this first, then we'll talk about Vance and what his political game was in Israel, because I think that's worth talking about.

04:01:30.000 Here is strategically what is happening for the United States.

04:01:35.000 You look around the world, and the alarming development, of which there are really two in particular, but one in general, what is happening in the world is the return of strategic competition, long-term strategic competition between great powers.

04:01:54.000 This is something that was not the case prior to roughly 2015.

04:02:00.000 From 1991 until 2015, our threat assessment as a country, we were preoccupied with the proliferation of WMDs, rogue states, and terrorism.

04:02:14.000 Those were the major threats.

04:02:15.000 So we were worried about al-Qaeda and al-Shabaab and groups like this, the Taliban.

04:02:21.000 We were worried about rogue states like North Korea, like Serbia, like Iran. 0.64

04:02:26.000 We were worried about the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, chemical, biological, nuclear weapons.

04:02:33.000 But after the fall of the Soviet Union, we didn't have to worry about a great power like we did in the previous centuries. 0.69

04:02:38.000 We didn't have to worry about the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, Great Britain, the French Empire.

04:02:45.000 For the first time, and another way to say this is that our relative power was greater than ever.

04:02:52.000 Our power relative to the next most powerful country was wider.

04:02:59.000 That gap was wider than ever before in history.

04:03:02.000 Nobody had achieved anything approaching equality, regional hegemony in any sphere of influence in any part of the world.

04:03:10.000 And so we dominated every state.

04:03:14.000 But the two particular developments which changed this is the rise of Russia.

04:03:19.000 Russia rebuilt itself after the dismemberment and the fall and collapse of the Soviet Union.

04:03:25.000 And China had its economic boom, which then began to translate Translate into the projection of military power.

04:03:32.000 And so, this is the world we're living in now.

04:03:34.000 And we have overcommitted our, so why are we going back that far?

04:03:39.000 Because we have to understand that the landscape is changing and we are stretched out too thin.

04:03:45.000 Our relative power is diminishing.

04:03:49.000 America's power relative to the next second and third most powerful countries, China and Russia, is now non-existent.

04:03:58.000 China and Russia together are as powerful as the United States, arguably.

04:04:04.000 And so this is why the United States is becoming increasingly reliant on its allies, like NATO and Europe, like Egypt, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the Emirates, and Turkey in the Middle East, India to counter China in the Indo-Pacific, Japan, Australia, and India in the Pacific to counter China's broader influence in East Asia and the Pacific.

04:04:30.000 This is why we're relying on our allies.

04:04:32.000 We want to add on and supplement American power to balance Russia and China, which are on the rise. 0.93

04:04:40.000 And what we're starting to realize is that we're stretched too thin.

04:04:45.000 We cannot protect Europe from Russia. 0.97

04:04:47.000 We cannot protect Israel from Iran and all of Iran's allies. 1.00

04:04:56.000 If all of these wars happened simultaneously, we would not be able to defend all of our empire.

04:05:07.000 We could not deny Ukraine, or rather, we could not deny Russia trying to get Ukraine.

04:05:12.000 We could not deny Iran attacking Israel. 1.00

04:05:15.000 We could not deny China trying to invade Taiwan all at the same time.

04:05:19.000 And so we're starting to prioritize.

04:05:22.000 And we're starting to say that China is really going to be the biggest problem.

04:05:26.000 They have the biggest shipbuilding industry by far, the biggest economy.

04:05:29.000 They're competing with us with AI.

04:05:31.000 They have the biggest navy in the world.

04:05:34.000 Their navy in the Pacific is bigger than our navy in the Pacific.

04:05:38.000 They're building amphibious landing boats to land on the shores of Taiwan.

04:05:42.000 And so we're starting to prioritize Asia because increasingly, not only is that where the strategic threat is, but that's also where the strategic interests are.

04:05:53.000 The chips are made in Taiwan, and that's vital for everything in the economy.

04:05:57.000 The rare earth minerals and many other critical minerals are mostly mined and processed in China.

04:06:03.000 And as China, India, and the other Asian tigers take up a larger percentage of the economy, that's where all the critical trade is happening too. 0.99

04:06:13.000 And so this is where we're trying to get out of Europe.

04:06:15.000 We're trying to get out of the Middle East, and we're trying to focus on China because they're the biggest, most powerful country, and that increasingly is where the most vital commodities and trade is happening.

04:06:30.000 Well, this is where Trump comes in.

04:06:33.000 And Trump wants NATO to increase its defense budget.

04:06:36.000 He wants Germany, France, and the UK to actually build a military.

04:06:39.000 Because if they can defend themselves from Russia, then we don't have to. 0.73

04:06:44.000 And we don't have to worry about it.

04:06:47.000 And we're trying to do the same thing in the Middle East.

04:06:51.000 We still need the Middle East to be stable.

04:06:53.000 We still want to maintain control of that region because you still have oil and gas there.

04:06:59.000 You still have vital trade going through there.

04:07:03.000 But we're passing it off to less reliable allies.

04:07:08.000 In Europe, we are totally aligned with, let's say, Germany, France, Italy, the UK, with the European Union, with the NATO countries there.

04:07:16.000 We have an international architecture.

04:07:18.000 They have the monetary union.

04:07:21.000 They're basically solid.

04:07:24.000 In the Middle East, it's a little bit more shaky, and that's because of the geopolitics of the Middle East.

04:07:28.000 It's because Israel is a pariah state, and they're maybe our most reliable ally, according to the doctrine. 0.75

04:07:34.000 That's not me saying that.

04:07:36.000 That's according to American strategic thinking.

04:07:38.000 They have the nuclear arsenal.

04:07:40.000 They have the advanced defense industry.

04:07:42.000 They have maybe the most competent military and intelligence.

04:07:47.000 They're the closest in some ways to the United States.

04:07:51.000 And they're not getting along well with our other allies, like Saudi Arabia, like the Emirates, like Iraq, like Egypt and Jordan.

04:08:00.000 And some of those countries have treaties and some of them have informal relationships, but it's not an easy relationship.

04:08:08.000 And so this is really what we're looking to do in the Middle East: we're trying to bring together all of our allies into something like NATO.

04:08:18.000 We want to systematize our alliances in the Middle East.

04:08:23.000 We want to bolster them with our most advanced weaponry, our most advanced planes, missile systems, missile defense systems.

04:08:32.000 We want to train them up so that just like in Europe, we can hand off security responsibilities to them.

04:08:40.000 If Europe spends more money on its defense, we can leave and they can deny Russia. 0.56
