00:00:01.000 My name is Nicholas J. Juentes.
00:00:03.000 This is my speech.
00:00:04.000 I hope you're all Republicans.
00:00:06.000 It's about to get a mess.
00:00:10.000 So, now, just to explain, extemporaneous speaking is an event where I get three topics the day of the conference, and I have to prepare for 45 minutes, a five minute speech, and then it's judged on analysis and accuracy and all the rest.
00:00:25.000 So, here it goes.
00:00:25.000 Today, my topic was what is President Obama's legacy?
00:00:31.000 So, in the hit Netflix drama House of Cards, Congressman Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, says that presidents who are obsessed over history are often obsessed over their place in it rather than forging it.
00:00:44.000 Now, this is true especially of American presidents, progressive presidents in particular.
00:00:49.000 Whether it was Wilson's progressivism under President Wilson, which saw the creation of the Federal Reserve and the income tax, whether it was FDR's New Deal, which prolonged the Great Depression, LBJ's Great Society, which created a whole new underclass of dependency.
00:01:03.000 And now, President Obama.
00:01:06.000 Now, many will think that President Obama's legacy will be Obamacare, expansion of executive authority, or simply that he was the first black president.
00:01:15.000 But the systemic changes to our country go much deeper than that.
00:01:18.000 So, when asked today's question, what is Obama's true legacy?
00:01:22.000 Firstly, it is one of economic stagnation.
00:01:25.000 Secondly, it is one of American retreat from the world.
00:01:28.000 And lastly, one of American decline.
00:01:31.000 Now, in the first place, I hate to burst the bubble, but The economy is not doing as well as everybody says it is.
00:01:38.000 Now, the government says that we've recovered from the 2008 recession, but we haven't.
00:01:42.000 The government says that unemployment is 5.8%.
00:01:45.000 That last quarter the economy grew 4%.
00:01:48.000 That Monday the Dow Jones rose 300 points.
00:01:51.000 That this month the government created 200,000 jobs.
00:01:54.000 But all these statistics are misleading.
00:01:56.000 We'll start with unemployment. 0.63
00:01:58.000 Now, the unemployment number of 5.6% is a U3 statistic.
00:02:03.000 Using U6 statistics, That takes into account the underemployed.
00:02:07.000 We all know that one college graduate who still works at McDonald's.
00:02:11.000 That takes those into account.
00:02:13.000 That number is 13%.
00:02:15.000 If you take into account the workforce participation rate, as when President Obama took office in 2008, unemployment is more than 20%.
00:02:22.000 That's four times what the government is telling us.
00:02:26.000 As for the 200,000 jobs that are created monthly, 90% of all jobs created in the past five years were created in Texas.
00:02:34.000 And this is a result of the new energy boom.
00:02:36.000 America's now the number one producer.
00:02:38.000 Of natural gas and oil, and this happened largely in spite of Obama, not because of him.
00:02:44.000 Now, when you look at the rising stock market, anytime you have an expansion of credit, there is an asset bubble that follows it.
00:02:50.000 This is a boom and bust cycle.
00:02:52.000 So, when you see the stock market rising, you're also seeing volatility rising.
00:02:55.000 We just have yet to see the bust.
00:02:58.000 Now, secondly, President Obama has single handedly led the American retreat from the world stage.
00:03:04.000 Now, America is still the most powerful military in the world, but you wouldn't be able to tell by the news in the past five months.
00:03:10.000 Now, about five years ago, President Obama declared that there would be a Russian reset.
00:03:16.000 Hillary Clinton went over to Russia.
00:03:17.000 She had a cute little actual button, a reset button, and we all had a good laugh.
00:03:22.000 The Cold War was over, they said.
00:03:24.000 Russian aggression is over.
00:03:26.000 Then in 2012, Mitt Romney said that Russia was the number one geopolitical foe of the United States.
00:03:32.000 And Barack Obama joked, ha, the 1980s foe, they want their foreign policy back.
00:03:37.000 What a wits!
00:03:38.000 We all had a good laugh at President Obama's joke, but unfortunately, that was also not true.
00:03:44.000 On November 16th, BBC reported that Russian tanks and troops marched from Russia into Ukraine.
00:03:50.000 The first invasion of a sovereign nation by Russia since 1979 in Afghanistan.
00:03:56.000 The Cold War was not ended by Obama, rather, it was reignited by his negligence.
00:04:01.000 And it doesn't just stop with Russia, it ends in the Middle East.
00:04:04.000 Last April 2014, President Obama drew a red line in the sand.
00:04:10.000 He said that should Bashar al Assad, the Syrian dictator, use chemical weapons against the Syrian rebels, there would have to be consequences.
00:04:17.000 Well, in April, Bashar al Assad used chemical weapons, and no consequences came.
00:04:25.000 President Obama broke the first rule of primacy of superpower deterrence.
00:04:29.000 Which is that when you make a threat, you have to back it up.
00:04:33.000 Without backing it up, he emboldened our enemies everywhere. 0.68
00:04:36.000 Not just in the Middle East, but well, mostly in the Middle East because they're all crazy there. 0.76
00:04:40.000 So now, if you look at Iran, the IAEA reported that Iran is months, 1.6 months, away from a nuclear weapon. 1.00
00:04:48.000 And those negotiations that are supposedly still going on, the deadline for those has been extended to July. 0.66
00:04:55.000 So their sanctions have been lifted while they're developing a nuclear weapon. 0.59
00:04:59.000 Meanwhile, ISIS. 0.71
00:05:00.000 A gang of 30,000 Muslim militants is not able to be defeated by a 70,000 strong Iraqi army, let alone the United States government, who stands idle. 0.92
00:05:12.000 Now, I remind you that America is the number one military in the world still. 1.00
00:05:15.000 We have 10 aircraft carriers.
00:05:18.000 The superpower of the next most is Russia with just two.
00:05:21.000 We could fight three wars at one time, but we're choosing to not fight any.
00:05:25.000 Now, lastly, President Obama is leading the decline of this great nation.
00:05:30.000 In fact, there's both economic And military.
00:05:33.000 Now, MarketWatch reported on December 15th that for the first time since President Grant after the Civil War, America is not the number one economy in the world.
00:05:44.000 Now, this is President Grant following the Civil War, you know, the most devastating conflict in American history.
00:05:51.000 We're at that point now.
00:05:52.000 And it's not just that our economy isn't growing, it's that our debt is so high.
00:05:57.000 Two months ago, our debt surpassed $18 trillion.
00:06:01.000 Now, Neil Ferguson reported that by 2070, Interest on that debt, just the interest to service that debt, will consume 50% of all tax revenues.
00:06:11.000 Now, when that happens, guess which budgetary item will be the first to go?
00:06:15.000 It won't be Medicare, it won't be Medicaid, it won't be Social Security.
00:06:19.000 Those entitlements will win votes.
00:06:22.000 It'll be defense.
00:06:23.000 And when we can no longer defend this great nation and our freedom, it will subside.
00:06:28.000 President Reagan said in 1964 for the Barry Goldwater campaign that should we lose freedom here in America, There is nowhere else to escape to.
00:06:38.000 President Obama has doomed this country and doomed freedom for this world.
00:06:42.000 Now, in conclusion, the question was what is President Obama's legacy?
00:06:46.000 It is one of economic stagnation, American retreat, and American decline.
00:06:52.000 Now, in 2008, he ran a very positive campaign of hope and change.
00:06:56.000 He said that he was going to increase bipartisanship, he was going to balance the budget, he was going to stop the rise of the oceans, he was going to heal the nation.
00:07:04.000 I bought it.
00:07:04.000 Republicans bought it, Democrats bought it.
00:07:06.000 That's why he was elected.
00:07:08.000 But now, here in 2015, after six years with this president, I think everyone's thinking, hope, or like, nope.
00:07:17.000 Thank you.
00:07:21.000 My name is Richard Goodmore.
