00:00:00.000 Thank you very much.
00:00:30.000 Hello, everyone.
00:00:35.800 This is my new kitten, Stella, that found her way to our back porch and is making an
00:00:42.600 appearance early on in the program.
00:00:44.520 Behold.
00:00:45.540 All right.
00:00:46.080 That being said, welcome to this week's edition of Victory Never Sleeps.
00:00:52.860 Svon will be joining me, but I haven't been informed he is running a little bit late today.
00:01:00.000 On top of the show of things, Jeffrey donated $10 each towards Frasehoff and towards the
00:01:11.540 Cigarhane Pavilion.
00:01:13.540 We appreciate that very much.
00:01:15.080 Thank you for that.
00:01:16.540 Anybody interested in donating towards any of our fundraising efforts, runestone.org slash
00:01:25.000 donate will get you there, and we appreciate your generosity.
00:01:30.000 y'all continue to impress with that and as a result continue to be able to
00:01:34.960 do really cool things so thank you guys also uh gilbert donated 150 towards
00:01:42.880 gilbert amazing your generosity is astounding we appreciate you so much um
00:01:51.920 that said top of the show things we mentioned the pavilion at sigerheim
00:01:57.520 we want to get something up and ready for i'm harry bloat that all depends on how much we raise
00:02:04.240 um we've currently got the uh earth work done we've got a leveled off pad that way that we're
00:02:11.840 looking to get our concrete on or if not at least concrete in when we're gonna have to put the
00:02:18.960 uprights for the building so we'll see what we can do on that we are ready and waiting on
00:02:24.400 um on that so we're doing great on that we have uh 32.3 percent of the way paid on that which is
00:02:34.560 fantastic thank you everyone who is contributing to that and being part of making that happen
00:02:43.280 it's the only way these things happen is by you guys and your generosity right now we're looking
00:02:49.440 and if every member of the AFA paid $31, the pavilion would magically appear.
00:02:56.560 So that's kind of breaking off for perspective. We're also trying to pay off Freishoth.
00:03:05.040 Freishoth is located in Austintown, Ohio. It's our most recent talk. We dedicated that on the
00:03:13.760 6th of december and as of now we are 49.1 percent of the wave paid off already which is astounding
00:03:23.840 and really amazing and thank you guys for that that breaks down to about 85 dollars per member
00:03:31.520 we pay that off immediately for perspective so yeah thank you everybody he was generous we
00:03:37.440 appreciate you guys other stuff this weekend this coming weekend just a few days from now
00:03:45.360 we are celebrating house float at all five of our hops if you could throw up that map
00:03:54.400 of the hop locations i want to encourage anyone who's listening just make it out to your local
00:04:00.000 hop um each little shields on this map tell you where the hops are one odin's off our first off
00:04:07.440 is in Brownsville, California.
00:04:11.660 Thorshoff, where I will be celebrating House Blope
00:04:14.920 this weekend, so I'd love to see you guys
00:04:16.840 who can come out there,
00:04:18.140 is in Linden, North Carolina.
00:04:21.320 Baldershoff is in Murdoch, Minnesota.
00:04:24.920 Njordshoff is in White Springs, Florida.
00:04:28.860 And as I mentioned, Freyshoff is in Austintown, Ohio.
00:04:32.300 You can make it out there.
00:04:33.940 We would love to celebrate with you at the Hoffs.
00:04:36.320 i think that is the best of your opportunities to experience the as true folk assembly and to meet
00:04:43.600 people that said we have events all the time chances are someplace near you wherever you
00:04:50.160 find yourself and you can find all of those at runestone.org slash calendar that is color
00:04:57.920 coded by district and we've tried to make it easy with the you know the state or province
00:05:03.360 or country abbreviation first so you see it and it pops up and stands out but yeah we have a lot
00:05:11.120 of stuff going on just check it out we'd love to have you guys get involved
00:05:22.080 so i don't know how many of you read your runestone this month also i'd like to keep
00:05:29.280 up with the afa's newsletter the runestone the runestone can be found at um
00:05:37.440 be found somewhere on our website can be found in our library i'm trying to think what the
00:05:41.680 quick link for you is um runestone.org library and i think it's self-evident when you get there
00:05:50.560 but uh producer nick amongst the many things he does for us puts that together every month and it
00:05:56.080 There's different articles and things and breakdowns of events and stuff going on
00:06:03.200 throughout the Astro Folk Assembly and it's pretty cool if you want to check that out.
00:06:10.480 So article I put in there this month and I just figured I'd mention it because
00:06:16.080 some people may be confused. This time of year we have a bunch of different fall time festivals and
00:06:26.080 you can only do the harvest so many ways.
00:06:30.500 So they're all unique in their own way.
00:06:32.200 And one of the things we focus on at House of Bloat
00:06:35.760 is the hunt.
00:06:36.920 And we do bloat to Lord Ullr as the Lord of the hunt.
00:06:42.580 This holiday is also known as Winter Finding
00:06:45.060 as it's around the autumnal equinox.
00:06:50.060 and so yeah since I have moved you guys may notice that behind me are a camera
00:07:03.920 here behold are a impressive if I do say so myself set of moose antlers and the
00:07:15.020 story behind them um back in 2009 i was i think i had celebrated
00:07:28.940 i don't know that it's the first time i celebrated house bloat but it was the first time
00:07:33.500 that i gave blue blow to lord uhler at house and i did that with a friend of mine up there
00:07:41.340 we were both getting ready for very important moose hunts that we were going to go on
00:07:46.700 um anybody who you guys may not be aware of it in alaska moose is a very common subsistence animal
00:07:55.020 many of us up there growing up would fill our freezers with moose meat
00:07:59.580 absolutely delicious meat i mean i miss that quite a bit but yeah it was a really important staple
00:08:06.780 uh to get you through the winter and you know my my family is fine we live down with ghosts or
00:08:11.900 whatever but it was really nice to be able to have that moose meat and provide that for our families
00:08:17.340 so we're getting ready for our moose hunts that year neither he nor i had ever gotten a moose
00:08:25.340 though we've been hunting a number of times so it's a difficult ordeal but we got ready and we
00:08:32.940 we were set to do bloat to lord september is hunting season for moose up there and
00:08:41.900 yeah so we went and we did our house bloat and then very shortly after that we both went on our
00:08:46.780 moose hunts um bloat felt powerful met at my friend's home out in a very rural part of south
00:08:57.020 central alaska matanuscus sit in the valley there um way out in sticks and had well wooded
00:09:05.980 lot with his property and did blow there felt powerful went out and we went on our hearts i
00:09:17.820 i was a very inexperienced hunter um had hunted a lot for a small game but as far as big game was
00:09:24.300 very inexperienced not a masterful shot or a you know tremendous woods by any means
00:09:32.060 um but i was out there with a party of uh older guys that had done quite a bit of hunting in their
00:09:37.340 time and we went out there in the most beautiful place was up near toke toke alaska um
00:09:44.300 We took some old four-wheel drive trucks off, forded a couple of different streams and drove
00:09:57.360 along this riverbed and beautiful valley up there.
00:10:01.740 You could see we're hunting by scope, so you could look up and use spotting scope up either
00:10:06.480 side of these mountains that very quickly got above the line.
00:10:13.000 in one panoramic around you can see caribou you see black bear see moose and you could see
00:10:24.680 see mountain goat and so that was pretty exciting it was gorgeous but
00:10:30.920 we had no luck we were trying one guy early on got a caribou we were holding out trying to get
00:10:37.880 our moose um you know multiple moose if we could but no luck it had a certain uh limit to the
00:10:46.520 width of the uh width of the antlers or number of brow tines so
00:10:54.440 saw a number of young males that just weren't quite there and we couldn't find it couldn't
00:10:59.480 find it comes last day of the hunt come to find out once i got out there in the middle of nowhere
00:11:04.600 this was 2009 and it was the height of the uh swine flu epidemic at the time i
00:11:12.840 ended up having that swine flu out there and so i was feverish and delirious and
00:11:20.040 i was not very comfortable but we were we're out there enjoying it anyway doing the thing
00:11:24.680 um last day this last day we're gonna be out there was also the last day of hunting season
00:11:30.920 and the sun was starting to go down
00:11:33.500 and you can't hunt by artificial light sources.
00:11:38.160 This is kind of our last opportunity
00:11:40.040 and the old timer down in camp spotted a moose
00:11:43.900 that looked big enough that was coming down the mountain.
00:11:46.820 So we all got our rifles and we went out there
00:11:49.220 and set up in this valley that we believed
00:11:53.760 he was going to be coming down.
00:11:56.520 I am feverish. I am the new guy.
00:11:59.780 I'm the least experienced hunter, and I'm out of my mind, so they set me at the worst possible spot of the good spots.
00:12:11.100 Basically, so I was out of their hair, and cool, we're getting ready to hope we found this moose as it was coming down the mountain.
00:12:18.800 and I was sitting there and I was again I was feverish and exhausted and I'm laying down in
00:12:27.820 the moss and I'm looking up the hill because I'm he's supposed to be coming down now I'm looking
00:12:33.580 up and looking up after a short while there there's some rustling in the trees and I hear
00:12:39.320 a sequence of grunts and so I look up the hill look around I don't see anything I sit back down
00:12:46.740 and you know my head is spinning and a few you know i don't know 10 20 seconds later i hear
00:12:54.020 more grunts again i start looking up the hill i don't see anything
00:13:00.980 again a few minutes or you know i don't know 20 seconds later another series of grunts this time
00:13:07.380 i hear trees breaking behind me down the hill so i turn around finally i see
00:13:12.180 this bull moose that walks out of the woods probably 20 yards from me at most looks at me
00:13:23.900 grunts while we're making eye contact then turns broadside and stands there so took the shot and
00:13:34.440 got my moose, lugged it out of there, and it's not because I was a good hunter. It's not because
00:13:42.700 I, my superior marksmanship or my woodcraft or, you know, wilderness craft, I guess. It's because
00:13:50.820 Lord Uhler gifted me with that moose, and I'm very grateful to this day.
00:13:55.360 so yeah that's my house bloat experience factoid on the spread of the antler width
00:14:04.960 it sounded right to me and in my head to see if the moose was legal i tried to position my
00:14:14.540 co-worker at the time joe uh joe the midget guy used to bounce with um he's a good friend of mine 0.89
00:14:21.480 but he was a midget and it seemed like i could take him and turn him sideways and if that fit 0.94
00:14:27.800 within the antlers and it would be big enough so sure enough as soon as we got in any kind of cell 0.88
00:14:35.080 phone reach on the way back to town i called him up said joe how tall are you and his height was
00:14:40.520 the exact number of the inches that that spread needed to be to be legal and so that worked out
00:14:45.640 well but that was that was my experience on that since i've been jaw jacking at you 0.99
00:14:54.600 angela has donated 50 towards phrase hawk thank you so much angela and she issued a challenge
00:15:04.680 her challenge is which hawk district can raise the most money tonight during this program
00:15:10.040 uh i'll start with fifty dollars on the clock let's go phrase hop so phrase hop is on the board
00:15:18.560 with fifty dollars from angelo thank you so much we greatly appreciate your donation um
00:15:26.180 yeah so that is that's awesome thank you for you know wanting to get a challenge going
00:15:34.060 and for putting your district in the lead on that.
00:15:40.760 Other stuff while we're here.
00:15:44.440 I think I may go into the, oh, okay.
00:15:46.380 So I'm going to go into the text.
00:15:47.720 We're still in the Scalds-Cappermal.
00:15:51.120 If you would like to follow along.
00:15:56.880 Excuse me.
00:15:57.520 If you would like to follow along.
00:15:58.800 Um, it's at the lust power season set the lust bow.org.
00:16:08.800 So, um, yeah, and I believe we are starting on section 26, as always, please feel free
00:16:18.340 to, uh, use whatever translation that you have, um, there's probably pluses and minuses
00:16:27.720 to all of them and you're welcome to use any one that that you prefer that you have on hand that's
00:16:35.400 all fine and good just deciding on whether to start with questions here or start with getting
00:16:46.760 into the text something else to note this is as always question and answer driven program
00:16:54.840 if you have questions now or at any other time you're welcome to email those to bms
00:17:01.960 at runestone.org and we will answer those questions as soon as we have the next opportunity
00:17:11.240 hmm so i think i'm going to knock out some questions here before we start
00:17:16.120 and give my co-host a chance to get on the show either way we'll make it work
00:17:24.120 Hmm. So Caleb asks, assuming equal distance and equal traveling costs, which
00:17:34.120 hoth would you recommend our folk visit first? Do you have any recommended order?
00:17:43.100 Hmm. So those are two different things, and I assume that we're
00:17:49.120 assuming those preconditions for both of the questions.
00:17:54.120 If you are a hundred percent going to go to all five of them, then yeah, I think
00:17:58.320 you should go in there, you know, founding order.
00:18:01.560 You should go Odin's Hoff, Thor's Hoff, Baldur's Hoff, Yord's Hoff, Frey's Hoff.
00:18:08.460 Um, but if there's like, which one is the one I'd recommend people visit?
00:18:14.520 That's like, this'll, this'll be the most impressive or the most
00:18:19.380 life-changing, or the most, I don't know, 0.78
00:18:23.240 the best one to be the first taste of a haw.
00:18:28.580 It's hard because I don't want to insult
00:18:30.840 any of our amazing people that run these hawks,
00:18:34.220 and I certainly don't want to be impious
00:18:35.840 to the gods of any of these hawks.
00:18:38.520 But we answer the hard questions here
00:18:42.120 on Victory Never Sleeps, so.
00:18:49.380 And this is subject to change, depending on when you ask me.
00:19:01.920 I would say right now, at this moment, the one I would encourage people to go to first would be PhraseHawk.
00:19:13.900 It is our newest one.
00:19:16.040 it is the uh nicest facility at day one as far as like it was turnkey ready in so many ways
00:19:26.380 the building itself is very impressive spawn's mural there all of his murals are amazing but
00:19:34.820 that one is particularly striking they've got an awesome energy there right now because everybody
00:19:41.240 has got those new off you know enthusiasm uh gifya katie does an amazing job in the kitchen
00:19:50.520 with their meals there so if i had to choose one for people to go to no offense to any of the other 0.97
00:19:57.080 ones but i would choose phrase off as that first experience for people and again that that could
00:20:02.280 change if you ask me at a different time or on a different day but that's the one i'm gonna say
00:20:05.800 right now also from caleb if i could instantly pay off any of the runestone.org debts or fundraisers
00:20:20.280 which one would i choose
00:20:24.600 um i think that that is a no-brainer but some of it is in the question itself i would choose
00:20:31.560 to pay off the remaining balance on the Sigurheim property not because it is the one i want to get
00:20:41.000 done first not because it is the most urgent simply because it is the highest dollar value
00:20:46.840 and if whatever magic is inherent to the question we're going to pay off
00:20:52.760 that is the biggest bang for the buck on that particular magic wish
00:20:56.280 priority of the one i would like to get paid off first would be that pavilion so that we can make
00:21:07.000 sure to get that erected up in time but if i could instantly pay one off it would be
00:21:15.560 the remaining balance on the cigarette property itself because
00:21:19.720 um i don't know i'd have to do some math but i believe we owe about 160 000 on that property
00:21:29.160 still which is the biggest single um debt we currently have
00:21:37.400 168 74. there you have it
00:21:42.360 so you guys have to forgive me there's a lot more dead air when i'm hosting by myself because i'm
00:21:54.060 also looking at the chats and the stuff when i would normally do that when swan is talking so
00:22:00.220 apologize for that so um hmm look I'm reading over the questions because I
00:22:19.020 want to make sure that if they're ones that I think spawn would really like to
00:22:24.660 comment on that he has the opportunity but we run into that with the text as
00:22:30.300 well so I'm gonna go ahead and finish up the questions well we'll see how far I
00:22:34.620 make it so Tyler asks hey there question for the show tonight
00:22:40.680 oftentimes certain media and people will pick the greens in terms that could be
00:22:45.840 seen as less than flat implying that they are somehow fickle or that people
00:22:51.560 should avoid getting their attention.
00:22:54.620 What would you say to these claims?
00:22:56.960 In what situations, if any, would one of our folk,
00:23:00.580 assuming that they are noble individuals,
00:23:03.540 want to avoid the attention of the gods?
00:23:07.100 How can one best avoid these situations?
00:23:17.940 So,
00:23:21.560 I think that in modern house, true, and I think probably in a lot of other things,
00:23:40.700 somebody gets an idea in their head months, years, decades ago,
00:23:47.740 and the idea takes on a life of its own and people don't really examine why they think that they just
00:23:53.720 well that's what i've always heard and if you found who they heard it from well that's that's
00:24:00.260 just what i always heard and if you found that guy well that's you know since i got involved in
00:24:05.980 that's true that's what i've always heard and i think australia has a lot of that one of those
00:24:11.420 is this idea of
00:24:14.000 being fearful
00:24:16.200 of the attention of the gods
00:24:17.580 I don't think that's
00:24:20.460 I would not encourage one to think
00:24:28.320 that way
00:24:28.760 I like on the one level
00:24:31.820 that one would
00:24:34.380 take the gods serious
00:24:36.400 enough that their attention
00:24:38.160 and their judgment
00:24:39.120 it is weighty enough to cause you I don't know to feel the weight of it if I were to say concern
00:24:48.880 or if I were to say um you know fear I don't think that would put it succinctly
00:24:57.540 so
00:25:02.740 one thing
00:25:07.060 that I think
00:25:08.260 we all want to do
00:25:10.540 is to gain the attention
00:25:13.220 of the gods
00:25:13.840 to do things
00:25:16.480 to live in a way
00:25:17.400 to achieve something heroic
00:25:19.140 to where we
00:25:19.980 cause our gods
00:25:21.980 to give us notice
00:25:22.980 to where of all their folk
00:25:26.380 for a moment
00:25:27.200 their eyes are on you
00:25:29.700 and they see you and recognize something
00:25:32.040 that you've done
00:25:32.760 fundamentally we want our gods
00:25:35.900 to be proud of us
00:25:37.260 and
00:25:38.640 I think that it's humbling
00:25:41.960 to try to consider like what could you do
00:25:44.220 to make one of our gods proud
00:25:46.020 of you
00:25:46.420 but I think we
00:25:49.420 out of an abundance of caution
00:25:51.620 sometimes worry about that
00:25:53.920 over much I think our gods are probably
00:25:55.780 proud of us that we're a great many things
00:25:57.860 that we might not think rise to that
00:25:59.840 level, but hopefully
00:26:02.000 they do.
00:26:05.700 I invite, during
00:26:07.900 bloat, I invite the gods
00:26:10.220 to see
00:26:12.080 us, to hear
00:26:14.100 us, to be with us,
00:26:16.100 and to judge us.
00:26:20.400 You
00:26:20.520 Alistair is a heroic faith
00:26:25.700 and we want
00:26:27.800 to live
00:26:29.940 heroically.
00:26:31.200 We want to do deeds
00:26:33.300 that are worthy of the
00:26:37.600 notice of our gods.
00:26:43.700 Yeah, there's a certain amount of
00:26:45.620 awareness
00:26:47.400 that comes to that.
00:26:50.520 but inviting them to know us the idea we don't win the game by avoiding condemnation
00:26:59.080 or like man maybe if the gods don't see me then nothing bad's gonna happen
00:27:05.080 no that's for losers we're playing this game to win we win when our gods see us
00:27:11.560 and judge us and find us to be worthy and find us to be people that they're proud of and that is
00:27:20.920 scary and it's weighty but it's not something we should be fearful of it's something we should rise
00:27:26.360 to the occasion for now the question's more than that though and i want to get to the actual point
00:27:31.400 of the question um questions like how assuming we're noble people what would we want the gods to
00:27:42.760 not pay attention to even the most noble people do stupid stuff and i think that you know there's
00:27:55.080 a scale of that we wouldn't want us the guys to see us being cruel to people mistreating our family 0.98
00:28:04.920 doing really shameful
00:28:09.260 things, but there's other
00:28:11.260 stuff too, I mean
00:28:12.420 it's not the time that
00:28:15.280 you're most trying to get the gods
00:28:17.200 to see you when you're just sitting around
00:28:18.840 being
00:28:19.240 being mundane, being lazy
00:28:23.240 you know, telling off
00:28:25.100 color jokes, doing whatever
00:28:26.680 we all do that
00:28:29.180 but the idea, you know
00:28:30.940 situations that you less
00:28:33.180 like to draw attention to
00:28:35.560 It's strange because it's not something that I'm ever concerned with.
00:28:38.820 I don't ever think about, you know, how do I want to avoid the gods paying attention to you?
00:28:44.740 It's a much better thing to want them to be proud of you.
00:28:50.060 And don't become obsessed with it on the moments you don't invite them in.
00:28:55.420 but
00:28:56.660 take it
00:29:03.300 and this is I want to answer
00:29:05.180 the question so
00:29:06.200 yeah I don't
00:29:09.440 think there's anything you should do to try to
00:29:11.200 avoid the gods taking notice of you 0.82
00:29:13.420 you should just not be a dirt bag
00:29:15.120 and not have to worry about it
00:29:16.600 that's the best bet
00:29:18.000 I think that
00:29:19.980 if you do things
00:29:22.700 that aren't just private
00:29:24.720 it or like you know you want the gods paying attention to you when you're in the bathroom 0.94
00:29:29.320 or like stupid things like that i don't think that's real but if you're doing something that 0.97
00:29:34.940 you are ashamed of you don't want the gods to see you doing it 0.98
00:29:39.300 this is again easier said than done but make note of that and don't do that anymore
00:29:47.180 don't live that way if that's what you're doing um but the inverse thing i think is important
00:29:54.600 When you deliberately invite the God's attention to yourself, put your best foot forward.
00:30:04.420 If you're going to approach the gods, put a comb through your hair.
00:30:09.900 Put on a nice shirt. Put on a tie.
00:30:13.400 Try to look nice. Try to do nice.
00:30:16.140 Try to dress things up and show respect that you're reaching out to the gods.
00:30:21.500 you're showing up to invite their attention stand tall hold yourself in a way for them to be proud
00:30:29.020 of but yeah i wouldn't worry about or be afraid of drawing god's attention
00:30:37.900 unless you're not living right and if you are to the extent that you are
00:30:42.220 turn that around and it's easier said than done i get that i'll also um make a note
00:30:48.300 if you are struggling with stuff that you should turn around that you're ashamed of
00:30:54.960 you can't fool the gods the gods already know that you're not perfect they already know that
00:31:00.980 you're screwing up they can also see that you're trying not to i think there's value in that i
00:31:07.780 think they can see the struggle you put in to try to overcome your failings or your struggles
00:31:16.140 And I think that counts a lot too.
00:31:23.980 So yeah, that is a thing.
00:31:26.400 That's what I would suggest.
00:31:27.480 My co-host has joined us during this question.
00:31:30.780 So I will throw it to you.
00:31:35.960 Apparently somebody, someone wanted to see my kitten.
00:31:38.380 So kitten made an appearance.
00:31:40.380 From the kitten, we also have the doge.
00:31:54.160 There we go.
00:31:55.160 The second level up with a fat cat.
00:31:58.100 So anyways, that said, Svan, there is the old Alcetru, I don't know, oft-said thing
00:32:08.620 about being afraid of drawing the god's attention because the gods are somehow fickle you don't want
00:32:13.500 odin to pay too close attention to you i know that's something that the old timers used to say
00:32:18.540 a lot i think it's bunk i think you need to be somebody worthy of his attention and uh but
00:32:27.900 questioner asks is that a thing um and what situations would a you know obviously not if
00:32:35.420 you're doing horrible things but are there situations in normal life you wouldn't want
00:32:38.940 the gods to pay attention to and how do you best avoid those situations yeah i think uh
00:32:46.460 kind of what you were saying and i i'll i'll um uh extend that a little further i think that
00:32:54.940 in Ausatru most of the time it's always been witness me bear witness to my deeds so
00:33:09.100 the other point to look at from the esoteric is that when you commit to deeds that are
00:33:17.260 deeply tied to the or law of others i think that has more gravity i'm not saying that the things
00:33:29.260 we do alone are passable um but uh the things we do alone kind of stain the the thread and then
00:33:43.180 And when we press forward, it can affect the way we interact with others.
00:33:52.460 So it's really, really important that we consider the gods watching us.
00:34:00.980 I think one of the things, you've spoken about it, and we've had conversations about it,
00:34:09.620 where one of the things I really don't like about, say, Christianity is that they have taken a mortal and made him divine.
00:34:26.460 but our divine gods who we often make mortal in our stories have direct connection to the skin
00:34:38.220 to the weft and and the weave of fate itself at the well of earth and our folk very rarely
00:34:50.300 ever consider that the gods are watching uh they're they're they are concerned with us so
00:35:01.900 i think that we should we change that in our culture that our folk should understand that the
00:35:11.340 gods are watching and i would go a step further not only are the gods watching us and they in
00:35:19.980 turn can mark us for glory or for uh disgrace but our ancestors are also watching but our ancestors
00:35:31.900 kind of watch through memory through the the well of memory that is in the middle world deeply
00:35:40.540 influences the world below and so they uh after the fact but clearly uh kinslaying
00:35:51.420 and other things of great importance um affect the way that our ancestors whether or not
00:35:58.700 they will accept us and allow us to cross the bridge um to join them so on top of that
00:36:07.500 um if the gods mark us for disgrace and we show up before the gates of helgar and that that would
00:36:18.460 pretty much um kind of sentence us to to uh walking the low road walking to moustrand
00:36:28.780 so we have three forms of moral judgment the gods of the highest importance
00:36:37.500 of the law of the land and also to what awaits through the ancestors and i think that christians
00:36:45.820 oftentimes ask uh oh so you guys have no moral judgment you could just do whatever you want
00:36:51.900 no no in fact we have three so so um i don't want to go ahead and finish up the questions
00:37:01.820 that we have before we start into the text because there's a couple of them i want to
00:37:06.780 make sure we get while people are still listening because I think they're particularly important in
00:37:11.460 that way. So let's move to the next one. Christians view the Bible as the inherent word of God.
00:37:17.540 They believe it is exactly what God wanted them to know. I don't think we consider the poetic 0.87
00:37:23.520 or prosetta like that. How should we think of these resources? Is there anything about our
00:37:30.660 gods that we do consider reliable and steadfast knowledge? Spawn, what would you say to that
00:37:35.440 question oh i would say first off um that the stories are not the direct word of of the gods
00:37:46.760 or any god but that the fact that they exist are actually the machinations of the gods um
00:37:55.020 If you read and listen to the VNS that we did, it was miraculous that all of the stories were gathered and placed down, passed through Latin and then into Old Norse with the decided alphabet.
00:38:20.940 it it was there was a lot standing against but the gods is in particular i believe lord odin and
00:38:29.660 that's my personal belief i'm not pressing that um as a church point but my personal belief is
00:38:39.180 that Lord Odin was instrumental in the machinations of ensuring that the seed of our
00:38:50.660 relationship with the gods through the stories remained. Even despite all the burning and the
00:39:03.520 hanging and the sacrifices to Yahweh, which is what they truly were, it remained through literature
00:39:12.820 and through poetry and discipline to the poetic style. So I believe that in and of itself is where
00:39:22.540 the divine shows up. After that, there is all of the scholars attempting to make sense of
00:39:32.560 the writing and we I think as the church we consider we encourage everyone to look at all
00:39:43.260 of the different translations and gain insight from that instead of simply here is one scholar
00:39:52.380 um who we believe is somehow divinely ordained and then we have to twist his history
00:40:01.000 um to do that i know that certain groups i think norena society is really um heavily influenced or
00:40:08.360 they they try to kind of uh really blow up um ryberg and i don't think that's the case
00:40:18.040 i think that these are very much human actions guided by divine hands so
00:40:30.120 yeah I think that one of the failings is that we come in with an expectation those of us and I
00:40:47.700 suppose it changes as more and more of the West is secular but those of us with familiarity with
00:40:55.920 religion or raised religiously the abrahamic faiths are very much based in the text 0.54
00:41:05.440 the quran is literally like allah guiding muhammad's hand in a cave it's perfect um
00:41:14.160 the books of the bible are all perfect they're divinely inspired everything is 0.85
00:41:19.040 is like the literal word of god in small orthodox christianity that's the understanding
00:41:29.120 that's not the case with other with other forms of religion in the human experience
00:41:36.640 but it is so dominant in the west and what we're familiar with that it becomes kind of an expectation
00:41:45.520 our faith has never really been that way it is informed by tradition by stories by the wisdom
00:41:55.040 of our elders by the wisdom of people who the gods have revealed divine truths to
00:42:01.840 and by those that have upheld those and those that have learned from the gods through the gift cycle
00:42:07.480 and through the gods taking the time and making the effort to make truth known to them.
00:42:18.220 And so of our written lore, a little bit of discernment goes a long way.
00:42:27.000 I know people want the perfect answer, but this, and I know many aren't comfortable with it,
00:42:33.220 But realistically, this is an art more than it's a science.
00:42:38.980 So you mentioned within the Eddas, there's a variety of poems that are preserved there.
00:42:45.720 None of the poems preserved there were preserved by Gothar for the intention of instructing
00:42:52.840 a loyal Alcetruar in the practice of our faith.
00:42:56.980 but many of them are done with a sacred and i do mean sacred duty to maintain the traditions
00:43:10.740 of their ancestors so you'll see some poems that are written as you know more comedy or more
00:43:17.860 like poetic flexing using themes and stories and points of reference that we would all be aware of
00:43:28.340 but you have others like uh the lust bow there's many more but the lust bow stands out have them
00:43:35.640 out um rigs thula there are some that are very obviously and intentionally written as
00:43:45.220 expressions of divine truth um and then you have in the uh prose that we're going over
00:43:54.120 um snorri's intention in gilfaginning is to
00:44:00.760 like convey what the authentic religion of his ancestors was so he breaks down in a very
00:44:09.360 fundamental way what is also true who are these gods who are the icer what are their stories
00:44:14.940 is how does your beliefs work?
00:44:18.400 And that's expressed in a very straightforward way
00:44:22.040 in that poem, I'm like the others.
00:44:25.180 So yeah, there's ones that have a higher degree
00:44:28.360 of instructional value than others do.
00:44:39.420 There's plenty of things that we know to be true,
00:44:43.080 And those are, I think a lot of those are preserved really well.
00:44:48.840 If you're looking at the pieces of lore, the ones I mentioned are probably the ones you're going to get the best out of.
00:44:54.660 And things that the Austro-Folk Assembly hangs our hat on, we believe are fundamentally true
00:45:00.220 and essential to our practice are in a book that I called The True Lugman.
00:45:07.340 When I say book, I use that term liberally.
00:45:10.140 it's like 20 pages but it's a document that's meant to be the basic fundamentals that are
00:45:16.780 essential in the beliefs um and i think you can build from there but i think those things are
00:45:22.780 very good core beliefs but this is very much a process that we grow in our wisdom and we
00:45:31.020 put our understanding and in our relationship to the gods with our continued interaction
00:45:36.220 through the gift cycle through worship and through time spent rebuilding that relationship
00:45:42.780 with them that our ancestors forsook so long ago so it's process um
00:45:50.700 to the else here you go what differences have did you have did you have additional to that song i
00:45:57.100 just had an additional kind of with the the side question in the chat uh the sun man asked
00:46:05.820 so he's got a couple of them that we're going to hit here in just a second
00:46:10.380 oh and i was mainly about uh it not being real sure i i just wanted to address that specifically
00:46:20.060 it is 100 real when you understand that mythos and the stories that travel through our folk
00:46:29.180 whether they are written in poetic discipline whether they are spoken um out to the folk in
00:46:36.460 a storytelling format whether they are uh animated even um as long as they're holding to the core
00:46:45.740 of the story um history and one of the big things about say like christianity islam and judaism
00:46:54.940 is that it's written from a point of history and that history is very spotty
00:47:00.460 so there are things that can't be proven um like the manger uh whether that was an injection of
00:47:09.500 bacchanalian um because there were ethnic jews that were attempting to convert greeks um the fact
00:47:16.940 that there are no records of jews in egypt we can go on and on and on but in our lore
00:47:24.060 the truth comes from the stories and then we begin to see the symbolic or allegoric truths
00:47:32.300 i've spoken about it before um with the two horses of the sun two horses of the earth and
00:47:39.500 the single horse of the moon and then we can look at the scientific and factual proof that out of
00:47:49.420 um one of those only the moon doesn't have its own rotational axis so we can then surmise that
00:47:59.260 these connectivities are not simply uh literature errors but are in fact mythic and symbolic truths
00:48:11.340 um as opposed to historical texts and the idea that uh somewhere along the way moses uh split
00:48:23.420 a body of water to get his people across from a factual place egypt to the desert that is around
00:48:35.580 judea so it's so apples to oranges so angela we'll get to your question uh in a minute we'll
00:48:45.740 drop it to the bottom spawn is already answering the next question up and i think this looks
00:48:50.060 but this is part of why i wanted to answer questions right now instead of wait until
00:48:54.380 later because sun man's new to the program and these are really good questions so um i know that
00:49:01.900 you're coming into a chat room that is full of you know zealous pious also true are so you're
00:49:09.380 going to get resistance to your question i don't think anybody's being rude but i want you to
00:49:12.780 understand um at least from our perspective uh we expect new we want new people to show up watch show
00:49:19.460 whatever if it's just out of curiosity great if it's because you're considering also true
00:49:26.800 awesome because this is just fun and entertaining great your questions are fine they're insightful
00:49:33.040 questions they're good and i want us to answer them as best we can um so to put your your actual
00:49:39.520 question on here and kind of go on this theme but i want to i want to hit it from a little bit
00:49:43.660 different angle uh sun man asks what are the proofs for paganism i believed it for a while
00:49:52.080 because of european heritage and stuff but christianity has more compelling truths and
00:49:57.680 arguments in my opinion are there any sort of developed out of true apologetics or
00:50:04.880 nd e testimonies to back it up so
00:50:15.600 it was a turn of a phrase so i i know that swan and i are on the same page here but i wouldn't say
00:50:21.200 that the truth comes from text or anything else the truth comes from reality the truth is true
00:50:30.320 whether we understand it or not whether we know how to express it or not and that's not
00:50:35.920 an also true argument that's a just a truth argument the truth is one of our core virtues
00:50:42.560 that we really believe in um some of the uh clarifying statements or questions by some
00:50:49.360 man that would also work to respond to um trying to get back here so uh swan harold so you basically
00:51:03.280 uh believe something similar to the idea that all religions are a path to god or do you believe
00:51:09.200 that also true or even more broadly european paganism is the one true religion so i'm i'm
00:51:14.720 jumping in front of swan on that one i got the talking stick but i will throw it back i will
00:51:19.760 throw it back to him one thing so swan can answer for his perspective on this but no we are a folk
00:51:28.000 religion and that means that we are ethically and racially specific we don't believe that there is
00:51:36.400 one true path to god because we believe there are different divinities for each of the the races of
00:51:44.720 mankind or not. We believe that our gods are our gods, that Ausatru is true, and it is the
00:51:55.080 relationship between the Aesir, a specific group of gods, and us, the Arian people. And again,
00:52:03.980 we don't use Arian on here to be edgy. It was an ancient name for our folk that was a symbol of
00:52:10.520 pride that we are noble and bright and shiny people it's a charge to be worthy of our gods
00:52:16.040 kind of like the first you know first couple of questions here about wanting their attention
00:52:22.520 the idea of ariah is to shine with nobility to kind of be a beacon of being noble people
00:52:30.040 um so these are our gods i don't speak for you know the religious truths of 0.68
00:52:40.440 uh you know mongoloids or negroids or you know aboriginals or whatever i believe that those
00:52:50.020 different races of people have their own relationship to their conception of divinity
00:52:56.220 and whatever that looks like that's between them and their gods,
00:53:00.380 but this is between us and our gods.
00:53:02.480 And it's fundamentally true because it is.
00:53:05.260 It's true because the Aesir exists and they created us. 0.53
00:53:10.680 Now, forming compelling arguments for other people to be logically 0.98
00:53:20.000 or judicially convinced that this is true,
00:53:23.840 that's a lot harder to do now this isn't an excuse but christian apologetics have had
00:53:30.900 2 000 years to sculpt deep philosophical constructs to
00:53:36.680 buttress their spiritual principles and we develop those we have certain dotar and just
00:53:46.340 certain practitioners of usitry that can express themselves really well through a variety of
00:53:52.880 philosophical theories and whatever else but that wasn't really the the greatest tradition
00:54:06.560 of our folk wasn't to convince people by by argument by debate it was very often by experience
00:54:14.440 um one of the texts i mentioned earlier that's so fundamental to our faith is the rigs thula
00:54:22.820 key to that was these generations of our ancestors welcoming the divine into their home into their
00:54:31.700 life into their marriage into their family into their everyday experience and through that
00:54:38.020 welcoming of the gods into their life the ennoblement by generation of those people from thrall to king
00:54:46.020 So much of, I wish that I could give you the most beautiful philosophical treatise on this
00:54:59.420 that blows everybody's mind and everybody has to, well, clearly the logic says we've
00:55:04.480 got to convert today.
00:55:05.940 Let's go to runestone.org and sign up.
00:55:08.420 I would love to.
00:55:11.120 Maybe one day I'll be up to that task.
00:55:13.320 what I can do
00:55:14.980 is invite all of the sons
00:55:17.760 and daughters of
00:55:18.720 our proud Aryan ancestors
00:55:22.100 of the Aesir to
00:55:23.640 open themselves
00:55:25.960 to experience
00:55:27.120 and know the truth
00:55:29.940 of the gods what I will say is
00:55:31.600 once you
00:55:33.680 know their truth once you feel
00:55:35.980 and experience them working
00:55:37.940 in your life
00:55:38.780 you can't unknow it
00:55:41.740 It is, and you feel it.
00:55:45.920 And so much with metaphysical experience is very different, very difficult to weigh and to measure and to express.
00:55:56.980 I think some of the same arguments are true for any religious apologetics in the sense that life is miraculous, the divine exists.
00:56:11.740 things beyond our understanding exist life after death exists you mentioned near-death experiences
00:56:18.940 there are plenty of people that experience those in an also true context one of the most common
00:56:27.020 things experienced in near-death experiences is being welcomed and guided to the other side
00:56:34.380 by uh fallen relatives very very often those are our female relatives who pass
00:56:42.140 in our surgery we conceive this as the dc or our female ancestors that have been elevated
00:56:48.780 to a special place where they look after their family members after death but yeah there's lots
00:56:56.380 of near-death experiences that reinforce our faith i'm sure that's true in a lot of faiths 1.00
00:57:02.300 But I do know that's true in Al-Satru. 0.99
00:57:07.880 It was one of the interesting things when I came home to Al-Satru. 0.83
00:57:11.780 It wasn't at all through intellectual argument. 0.92
00:57:16.880 It wasn't that at all.
00:57:21.140 I mean, I suppose in a way that it was.
00:57:24.380 I didn't stop believing in Yahweh. 0.99
00:57:27.780 way but I came to believe that he was a bad person I believed in my Bible and I tried so
00:57:39.300 hard to man if God thinks one way and I think a different way clearly I'm the one who's wrong
00:57:47.700 so I need to I need to go back and I tried tried hard but what was inescapable is that the God of
00:57:57.180 Bible is bad, is a bad person. And even if that is the be-all and end-all of religion,
00:58:09.720 that guy's the bad guy and I don't want to be on that team. That caused me to break free
00:58:15.740 from Christianity. And in doing so, it freed me up to eventually come to Ausatry. But it 0.97
00:58:26.180 Again, it wasn't because the argument was one's intellectually superior to the other.
00:58:33.180 It very much was the idea of homecoming.
00:58:36.980 The God of the Bible is a Jewish God, a Jewish ethnic God for Jewish people.
00:58:44.420 That's clear. It's clear throughout. It's clear in their covenant.
00:58:48.440 It's clear in the understanding of that.
00:58:50.120 It is the source of a lot of things in current events today, similar beliefs.
00:58:57.220 No, that is the God of Israel.
00:59:00.860 But our people had gods, and I knew that our people had gods.
00:59:05.200 History tells me our people had gods.
00:59:07.660 That was a thing.
00:59:09.360 The Bible, if you read it fairly, talks about there are other gods.
00:59:14.480 You're just not supposed to worship them.
00:59:17.400 So what did we have?
00:59:19.000 who are the gods of our people and when i invited those gods into my life into my heart into
00:59:27.160 my existence and i asked them you know i reached out i made offering and i said hey i'm here i want
00:59:33.720 a relationship with you i'm here and i'm listening you know here's my gift healthy gods uh changed
00:59:42.760 my life i know for a fact that they are real and that they hear us and that they interact with us
00:59:50.200 convincing you of that or anyone for that matter is a much more difficult prospect
00:59:55.800 but one of the ideas of the priest and this is a it's a very pagan idea it's an arian pagan idea
01:00:03.320 It's the idea of the pontifex, the one that makes the bridge, the bridge between people
01:00:11.880 and between the gods.
01:00:15.080 So fundamentally, as Gothar, Spahn and My's job is to, Spahn and My job is, Spahn's and
01:00:25.880 my job there you go i think their dress charm is to facilitate others building relationship with
01:00:35.160 gods and that's a two-way street that's trying to get um the participant to open themselves up
01:00:43.080 and to be heard by the gods and it's also to try to facilitate those gods administer blessings and
01:00:52.200 interacting with the life of the participant and that can take a lot of different forms
01:00:59.560 you know what we probably most often thinks that think of that in bloat or a kind of high ritual
01:01:04.440 structure but i think it goes on a lot of different ways but i don't
01:01:13.240 i think someone can be eloquent and have amazing arguments and still be wrong
01:01:18.360 and i think somebody can be simple and not have amazing arguments and still be profoundly right
01:01:28.040 i don't think truth is beholden to argumentation truth is exist truth exists and our argumentation
01:01:34.920 helps us to express it or to um weigh it or to measure it but it doesn't create or produce
01:01:44.040 truth it just helps quantify or express it um but i hope that touches on some of your things and i
01:01:51.400 think that spawn probably has additional stuff to throw at you so spawn go for it yeah i i think
01:01:59.080 everything that you're saying um and just to kind of drive the point home when you
01:02:06.840 so people don't think that you're just flippantly saying that the god of the judeans is
01:02:14.040 uh bad or are or is showing i i know i mean but to back it up is what i'm i'm ultimately saying
01:02:24.940 um you know in the greek um in the greek bible which again oldest that we have outside of
01:02:37.280 postulations of aramaic um you know you shall not make yourself an image in the form of anything in
01:02:46.560 heaven above or of earth beneath or in the waters below you shall bow down to to you shall not bow
01:02:55.020 down to them for i the lord your god yahweh uh am a jealous god punishing the children for the
01:03:06.680 sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me. So right there,
01:03:15.140 I think there's some jarring points that people conveniently forget. And when we talk about
01:03:23.540 these points, oh, they're just being mean. No, I think that a great amount of Christianity has been
01:03:32.440 sanitized in order to push perhaps maybe the love concept or even like a lot of people online right
01:03:44.800 now do the knightly thing even though there were no Christian knights in Rome but there were in
01:03:52.600 Germania because the Germanic concept of the oath warrior was already in place so
01:04:00.140 So what I can say is that once you begin to understand that there is not a universal, and then the hardest part for people to understand is that if there is no universal, then you must go with what applies to you.
01:04:24.460 governance does not apply to every nation in the world not every nation in the world can agree on
01:04:33.580 its governance but what you can agree on is the governance of your own people and the way that
01:04:40.220 they allocate their reality or their world and then their governance and in much the same way
01:04:47.700 Now, the gods don't go into speaking of other peoples and their gods.
01:04:57.240 But here in this case, when it is spoken about, it is very clear.
01:05:02.740 I don't want you worshiping them.
01:05:04.920 I am the God of the Judeans.
01:05:08.000 And this is Mosaic law.
01:05:10.680 And you shall not do this out of my jealousy.
01:05:16.180 You will be punished.
01:05:17.700 your your descendants will be punished um at the same time when you have those two kind of lined up
01:05:27.120 there is this this is the way of your people embrace the way of your people in embrace the
01:05:35.600 gods into your home and you shall grow and prosper and then it becomes irrelevant uh at the
01:05:44.480 universality of the gods uh the gods of other people it is it's irrelevant because it is your
01:05:53.420 gods your people you cannot change who you are you cannot change the gods and
01:06:00.160 you continue forward so i think a lot of folks have a hard time doing that and allocating that
01:06:08.760 And if you read the Bible, which thankfully is oftentimes touchstoned with deeply historical points, you'll see that Christianity, i.e. Judaism, because technically it wasn't Christianity until the disciples of the rabbi Yeshua, they left and started to spread the religion amongst other ethnic Jews.
01:06:37.060 Saul of Tarsus, of course, being the major one. And then when he realized that he couldn't make 0.56
01:06:44.200 headway, he decided to go and use the Latin word Gentile, but non-Jews, to convert them. 0.90
01:06:54.180 So before that, wrestling with divinity was always a matter of, my God can beat up your God.
01:07:03.260 And all of the divine conceptualizations was held high, but the details, if there was a city and a siege, they would not bring up the details of perhaps people within the city that were of their own religious group helping open the gates.
01:07:25.700 No, no, no. Their God helped them in. That's why they won. Now, I'm not saying that this is bad. Everybody did this in ancient times, but there was very much a time where the Judeans did not believe that their God was the universal God.
01:07:45.800 But instead, the God of the Judeans, they understood. And then eventually, they started relegating other people's gods into the form of what they called Shadim. Shadim is an evil or lesser entity.
01:08:06.380 they ended up using the word demon in greek but demon means lesser than a god
01:08:14.420 so that was the reason why they used it in order to emphasize this this point and slowly over time
01:08:23.680 they made yahweh the god of the judeans this universal god and all other gods were somehow
01:08:32.400 relegated to lesser than and then later on there was the whole nephilim conceptualization
01:08:41.440 um so when you look at a lot of this speaking assuredly from one point while also not knowing
01:08:52.580 the position that we are at is i think not the best way to go um you know instead
01:09:01.400 asking simply how do your gods feel about other gods or other people uh but i think that a lot
01:09:10.100 of times people come from monotheistic universalist uh uh supposed omnipotence um from a very kind of
01:09:20.460 uh established point where they don't consider certain things in their faith and i can bring it
01:09:29.840 up and it's really a matter of just reading and again usually it always comes down to oh well
01:09:37.600 that's what i believe now and even though christians in the past didn't believe that
01:09:42.480 or it's like what translation of the bible you're looking at etc etc which is why bringing it back
01:09:50.480 to us house it through encourages everyone to look at all the translations because when you get into
01:09:59.120 this kind of historical kind of knife pulling it's like oh no no i believe in you know just the
01:10:07.920 king james or the nib bible or and it starts to get very very cutthroat uh and it's because they're
01:10:16.640 abandoning um mythos and bringing religion down into the nitty-gritty details of spotty history
01:10:28.000 I would also like to say, these are really great questions. I don't know, as you're coming into our faith or trying to understand it, there are things that you're going to have to try to work with.
01:10:40.920 Christianity, Islam, Judaism have a lot of guilt, have a lot of caveat of the idea that if you turn
01:10:50.440 away, you shall be punished. And I understand that struggle. I was not always Al-Satru. I grew up
01:11:00.940 very religious. And what I mean by that is a very spiritual, and I sought that community and that
01:11:08.720 connectivity, but I didn't find it in the house of Yahweh. And I found it when I came home.
01:11:17.720 And the most unfortunate thing was, was that we had no house. And then over time, I've been blessed
01:11:27.020 to be involved in, I'll see her go, the bringing Hoffs.
01:11:34.700 And as we continue to grow, I'm sure that there will be more and more people
01:11:40.140 that will attempt to tear it down. 0.98
01:11:42.980 And I think most importantly, European Christians should understand
01:11:49.320 that we as Ausatru are not attempting to burn down churches or things like that.
01:11:58.680 We are more open to the conversation that there is a faith that fully functioned before Christianity in Europe
01:12:09.000 and that all of the folk should come back to that faith.
01:12:14.900 And that's what makes it. It is universal in that every folk person, no matter what border they're living at, should return to the gods of their people.
01:12:27.220 And all of the knowledge that they gain from that will heal them and bring them to the heroic horizon that they need to be in order to save ourselves that I don't think that we can find in other religions from the Middle East or from the Far East or what have you.
01:12:52.740 All right, next up from Angela. Appreciate your patience, Angela.
01:12:57.220 To the El Terriagoti, what differences have you noticed in your worship style since moving from Nevada to Tennessee?
01:13:05.900 None.
01:13:08.420 But I say that I am in a special position because I'm the one that leads the stuff.
01:13:21.480 So deferentially, you know, I was the one at Odin's Hoff that would lead Bloat most of the time.
01:13:27.220 And now that I'm here, because I'm in a very special position that I'm in, I'm typically the one that leads worship here.
01:13:35.700 So I do the same things because they're the same gods and I'm the same me.
01:13:43.660 The folks are a little different.
01:13:46.080 I don't know in a measurable way other than it's just simply different people because I'm in a different part of the country.
01:13:53.560 It's measurable. I'm cool here.
01:13:57.220 Nick is in fact here. No, there's no real way that I do things that's different. But yeah, I'm a, again, if I were going as a guest to something someone else was doing or someone else was leading a ritual, it might be a little bit different.
01:14:20.480 but I'm in a spot where I'm typically the one leading it wherever I go.
01:14:25.820 So I'm kind of the unique case to where other people change for me
01:14:31.160 and not the other way around.
01:14:32.700 And again, that is a very special spot that I'm in, and I understand that.
01:14:40.820 Also to me, Matt, do AFA members have a place of pilgrimage
01:14:44.960 such as a hawk or a sacred site?
01:14:47.280 Yes, we have six of them. We have five Hoffs, as I mentioned before, in case anybody's just
01:14:54.400 joining us. We have Odenshoff in Brownsville, California. We have Thorshoff in Linden, North
01:15:01.140 Carolina, where Svon and I will both be celebrating house float here in a couple of days. We have
01:15:07.660 Baldershoff in Murdoch, Minnesota. We have New Yorkshoff in White Springs, Florida. And we have
01:15:15.120 now austin uh phrasehawk in austintown ohio but also we have siggerham here in jackson county
01:15:25.280 tennessee that will eventually be the capital of the afa to where we build the great hall there
01:15:31.600 will also be the site that we build from the ground up tears so we are well in works on plans
01:15:39.440 on those things and uh yeah that's a good plug as any everybody listening to this you should move
01:15:47.360 to Gainesboro Tennessee um where we are trying to build big things and make stuff work
01:15:54.400 and develop the community around that capital and around what will be tears hog
01:16:02.560 a number of people are moving here we are trying to do great things and have that
01:16:06.880 everyday community here that we so often dream about that proximity has made so difficult for
01:16:13.200 so many of us this is our way of fixing it it's why my family has moved down here that's why
01:16:20.480 swan and his family will move here when they're able and the number of our other folk will be
01:16:26.320 here it's why nick i was the first to move out here to make that happen so producer nick led the
01:16:32.240 way in that um the austral folk assembly of all of us which particular state city or general
01:16:44.320 location in the united states has the most followers and members of the afa
01:16:50.800 so state our most populous afa member state is california
01:16:57.200 um almost all of that is in the northern central part of the state
01:17:05.680 kind of building out from odensoff that said regionally we have far more members
01:17:14.240 east of the mississippi than the west of the mississippi um
01:17:18.720 Um, Sigurheim, as I mentioned here in Jackson County, Tennessee is very central to the majority
01:17:26.080 of our membership, but, um, I could be off.
01:17:33.700 I'm trying to quick see the most recent months, um, numbers on it, California, Florida, Ohio,
01:17:44.780 Ohio, North Carolina, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, I think those are our top states, but we have
01:17:57.180 people all throughout, but I think those are the states with the most members.
01:18:08.660 Matt, as I was here, you're guilty.
01:18:10.380 Would you consider yourself within the Ousitre similarly to the Pope in Christianity?
01:18:18.080 A lot of people are not going to like my answer, but yes, I would.
01:18:22.740 I think that is the closest analogy.
01:18:26.660 I think some people are going to think that's really cool and have a lot of really cool associations with that.
01:18:33.080 I think some people are going to have a lot of really not cool associations with that.
01:18:36.480 But I do think it is similar in concept, and I would be dishonest not to just own it and say, yes, I am the Ossipope.
01:18:50.820 I think something, though, that is fundamental, in the papacy, there is an established doctrine of papal infallibility.
01:19:01.700 I don't think that I am perfect. 0.98
01:19:03.560 I don't think that the Aesir are obliged to abide by my edicts.
01:19:10.680 There's an idea that there's a reciprocity between the Pope and their God, 0.90
01:19:18.360 that if the Pope says something that Yahweh is somehow compelled to enforce it on the other side.
01:19:27.560 No, I serve our gods.
01:19:30.400 There's a hierarchy.
01:19:31.600 we are not i'm the partner of the icer i am the person that they have bestowed with response
01:19:39.840 responsibility to be the steward of ausitru here in midgard and to implement their will to the best
01:19:49.280 of my understanding and to be responsible for not failing in that task but i don't claim that i have
01:19:59.760 some sort of infallibility i do claim that i have been blessed with a very special and particular
01:20:05.760 relationship with the icer and i'm tremendously fortunate for that but um
01:20:13.680 some of the arrogance and presupposition that i think is inherent in the papacy is not
01:20:19.680 the same so please don't over extend the metaphor but i think in the way the question was asked i
01:20:24.960 I would have to say this to you.
01:20:33.680 Svan, let's have me take a shot at this one. 0.99
01:20:36.260 Where did the Vanir come from?
01:20:38.660 I cannot remember anything in the lore
01:20:40.080 that hints at their origins
01:20:41.580 or the origins of the elves
01:20:43.400 who are connected to them.
01:20:46.780 A follow-up by the same questioner,
01:20:49.280 the Vanir seem connected to heat and summer. 0.55
01:20:51.940 As we know it, Surtr will slay Freyr.
01:20:56.940 Are the Vanir maybe uncorrupted fire jotuns in some way? 0.98
01:21:02.440 And the Iseer are uncorrupted frost jotuns? 0.51
01:21:07.440 It's fine. Go from there, if you will.
01:21:10.360 So you're correct.
01:21:11.840 There is no surviving exact point of the waning gods.
01:21:20.140 The Vanir, their name means to wane or really cyclic, to rise and to fall.
01:21:29.680 There are theories, some people postulate that perhaps from Ad Umla, the hornless one, that perhaps the Vanir rise.
01:21:46.060 but you are correct the alvar and the vanir are not spoken of as having direct uh pinpointed sense
01:21:55.740 also kind of in a separate part of your question uncorrupted um the yachtins are not
01:22:06.300 uh corrupted in a way they are of their own inclination they are of a beinghood that
01:22:16.060 drives itself in a direction and when the first house comes amongst them he does take
01:22:25.000 a wife as it is said he takes a wife and remains amongst them um so there's not so much a sense of
01:22:34.400 corruption it's just that as um we have uh booty who then has a son named bor it is bor that
01:22:47.200 realizes that he must go out on his own and he propagates his uh his seed his genetics his uh
01:22:57.840 is power um but he realizes that it it's in different direction than with the uh the beings
01:23:08.000 of proto-matter the beings of nivelheim so he decides to move to the center and that's what
01:23:15.280 i'm getting at in mythos directionality is so important so we have that uh board and best law
01:23:24.960 move to the center where yggdrasil is and that's where they decide to build their kingdom and
01:23:34.360 establish their own edicts and that doesn't mean exclusion they uh because they are of the gods
01:23:42.920 the the army of the jotens and the gods um the jotens are not seen as like say a completely
01:23:50.660 separate genetic species or what have you um no they're they uh they are just like the word
01:23:59.900 yachting really etymologically it has a lot to do with consumption but also the mountains and
01:24:08.220 the everlastingness so they are elder or older beings and they decide to build their kingdom
01:24:17.040 them in the center. Once they go above and you have the Vanir who are in the middle with 1.00
01:24:26.840 man and with the Jotuns of Ymir, you suddenly see this is the middle ground has significance. 1.00
01:24:37.260 And that's why I don't encourage anyone to look at anybody who's shifting the roots of Yggdrasil 0.99
01:24:45.920 around trying to create justification by putting all of the roots in the underworld or what have
01:24:55.220 you, because this mythic cycle of the Arian tri-world, upper, middle, and lower, is really
01:25:06.340 important. Matter of fact, Christianity did not have an upper, middle, or lower world
01:25:12.640 till after rome um the uh semitic worldview was of a an earth and and an upper world or
01:25:24.120 a firmament uh i don't know what the word is in aramaic or hebrew but um with the vanir being
01:25:34.680 in the middle with humankind, with the folk, and with the Jotans, we begin to see that they are
01:25:44.320 deeply connected to cycles. So I often call them the gods of natural law, inescapable and driving 0.98
01:25:54.940 natural forces. However, the gods above, the gods that also reside, and there is the Alvar,
01:26:04.680 but remember specific type of alvar alvar is a title um there are many words in english that i
01:26:13.880 always kind of try to lean towards a perfect example would be like the word monster monster
01:26:21.880 and i'm not saying that they are monsters what i'm getting at is it has multiple meanings you
01:26:27.560 could have it apply to a physical person an imaginary creature or what have you alvar is a
01:26:35.240 title that has application on many spectrums and it's in considering what's before it so the gods
01:26:43.320 live with the light alvar around them that means that those beings are completely synthesized with
01:26:53.000 light. They are given personhood. They have personhood, but their existence is in the form
01:27:01.960 of light. So the gods are above with these beings of light and they are unchanging. The attempt
01:27:13.280 is to maintain the arc of eternity so i often call them the gods of cosmic order and in the
01:27:23.500 beginning there was a great fight between and eventually there was an alignment because
01:27:30.840 of the propensity of the the descendants of emir are in essence the beings of dissipation
01:27:40.320 of chthonic forces they are uh the emir army emir's children are dissipators and they break
01:27:50.540 things down they push things against life and then they they take what remains apart and this 0.92
01:27:59.760 is necessary the vanir push in life and the only way that life can evolve is through that resistance 0.98
01:28:06.900 so there's it's not always just good or evil it's it is chaos order the vanir are attempting to
01:28:17.880 maintain order through life and organic like collection or connectivity um but the gods are
01:28:27.220 concerned the isir gods are concerned with things beyond the biological and when they united
01:28:35.720 they became one so don't get that um into don't misconstrue that we're not saying that there's
01:28:44.560 vana true and no they are all of the icier after their their conflict they they have united and so
01:28:54.880 we consider the synergy between the two to be a completion they were not fully complete there was
01:29:03.580 steps in their fate that drove to this point. They needed to be. So the most simplistic way
01:29:14.620 that I often talk about it with folks that are not house of truth, maybe my family members are
01:29:20.620 just friends. I often say the gods, the Isir gods are all the gods, but when they were separate, 0.98
01:29:28.960 the gods above were of fire and light and of the the eternal um and wind and that the gods
01:29:41.660 in the middle with us were cycles of life death reproduction and often associated with water
01:29:49.620 and with earth um again that is not the gods don't fit in those boxes very well
01:29:57.260 But it does help people orientate. If you look at, you said, extensions of heat and summer, I would like to also point out Gríðr or Ríndr, all mothers of sacred gods in our faith.
01:30:18.340 And they're associated with the cold, with ice, and also with earthquake, crags, and other kind of the ungiving earth, as opposed to Yarth, the goddess of the giving earth.
01:30:35.220 So it doesn't always, but I do like how you were exploring the notions to try to see the gods in many different ways.
01:30:47.400 And I encourage that. I think it's really important.
01:30:50.640 I'm just bringing the point that it's good to look at some of the other perspectives before we say like corrupted and things.
01:31:00.780 And since the Vanir are definitely associated with fecundity, and that comes about through spring and summer, life, the flowers, all of these things are clearly associated with the waning gods, you absolutely are kind of keying in, but more to consider.
01:31:31.340 So, Matt, thank you for your answers.
01:31:35.120 Also, how does the line of succession work for the L's Heria Goethe?
01:31:38.980 Is it based on who has been a Goethe for a long time with lots of experience?
01:31:44.400 So I'm going to, for the, looking at how Nick answered it,
01:31:54.180 this is not technically untrue, but there's a lot more to it.
01:31:57.680 um it looks like so there's directionality so i want to talk a little bit about that
01:32:06.480 it is a core belief of ours that
01:32:10.000 earlier on there were
01:32:14.240 a number of people divinely inspired to build and reforge house tree
01:32:24.560 The ISEER initiated each, Sveinbjorn Dantinsen, I should say I was here to go through Sveinbjorn
01:32:38.120 Dantinsen, Alexander Red Mills, the folk mother, Elsie Christiansen, Hasgold and Stubba of the
01:32:49.220 organic right, and our founder, Steve McNamara. All of these people were divinely charged
01:33:03.140 to build this in the best way that they could see fit to re-forge Alcetree in the modern
01:33:13.560 world um the isir reached out to these people in particular ways at particular times
01:33:24.760 perhaps it was also thor who reached out to alter your girlfriend
01:33:31.800 it was very much the all-father odin who reached out to speak
01:33:37.320 they were all tasked with this this thing and each of those that i mentioned
01:33:42.360 through the course of their life did the best they could to bring this to the best place that they
01:33:49.080 could for a variety of reasons those efforts that they made in organizations that they founded um
01:34:03.480 either crumbled or corrupted or merged here
01:34:12.360 chronologically in that alexander red mills with the anglican church voting in australia
01:34:17.880 um it was relatively short-lived it came about early he was the earliest of those that i mentioned
01:34:23.160 to be inspired with this and his uh had a good um good foundation under him but could not under
01:34:33.960 like withstand the political climate and prejudices that came along with the second world war
01:34:41.720 and that stopped a lot of his momentum he maintained his faith afterwards but a lot of
01:34:48.120 the momentum he had pre-war didn't follow him to make that second generation he kept writing and
01:34:55.480 inspiring he was one of the gentlemen that inspired uh folk mother elsie christensen in a very big way
01:35:04.600 she recognized this needed to happen it needed to be a very spiritual movement it needed to be a
01:35:10.360 religion but she wasn't well um wired before that so she instructed and trying to find the letter
01:35:21.720 it'd be great to come about um there was a letter that she wrote to where she was instructing people
01:35:27.640 at the time and i believe this was in her uh odinus fellowship newsletter or the odinus
01:35:33.800 that for religious instruction and now such as she encouraged people to find steve mcnallan
01:35:39.400 because he had a good grasp on the spiritual element of this so much of what she was doing was
01:35:47.880 political but meta-political for uh specifically men of our race to ennoble themselves and to be
01:35:56.600 proud of their heritage be proud of where they came from and a huge part of healing those men
01:36:02.120 was fixing their soul and reconnecting with our gods and so she directed them towards the
01:36:08.600 astrofocusing or at the time astrofruism um hoskel and stubba started very early on in england
01:36:18.120 again i believe hoskel started pre-war with some of his fledgling operations and they worked to
01:36:25.960 build this as something often for english gentlemen to practice this in an elevated way
01:36:33.480 and the inner workings of how all of the things work with those gentlemen
01:36:42.440 with those gentlemen and why their vision of the organic right and
01:36:48.760 work out his plan is complex and we still struggle to figure out all of that
01:36:55.560 the leadership changed hands in the organic right and then
01:36:58.520 And again, the particulars are murky, but it ceased being an effective organization
01:37:06.100 with legitimate and effective leadership.
01:37:09.600 Sometime over the last 15 years, it just dropped off the face of the earth.
01:37:14.740 As far as its continuity and its connectivity to those regional founders.
01:37:21.300 Svenbjorn, I'll tell you, Svenbjorn, he's a very spiritual man,
01:37:26.180 a very religious man in a close to nature sense, built something really beautiful there.
01:37:38.500 And he established that with four of his close friends and associates at the time,
01:37:45.200 one of which we've honored also with the Day of Remembrance, Gopi Thorstein Gopi.
01:37:51.020 but with him
01:37:54.180 he founded this thing and when he passed
01:37:56.220 it went to one of those
01:37:58.020 original four men
01:37:59.420 Osheri Gothi, Jormund Rege
01:38:01.980 Hansen and he
01:38:04.140 eventually was
01:38:06.040 removed
01:38:08.220 from office as Osheri Gothi
01:38:09.940 in favor of
01:38:11.900 folks that were
01:38:13.580 more
01:38:15.760 progressive in air quotes
01:38:20.160 more to the left he was removed and instated after him were people that there was a transitional 0.92
01:38:28.140 lady but she was like an interim also to give you before they could appoint the current also
01:38:34.340 of their organization uh hilmar um but hilmar doesn't believe in the gods and he has said
01:38:42.220 quite openly that he does not believe in gods literally uh as actual beings and that severed
01:38:48.900 legitimacy of that line so try to honor all of the people that i mentioned as heroes of our faith
01:38:55.620 um but their uh their connection their lineage there passed away and so as the ones left left
01:39:06.400 standing we've tried to uh protect and take care of and preserve the history and the memory of
01:39:13.680 those folks and of the hard work they put in and to recognize that this is the version that that
01:39:24.160 won out of that great struggle of our founding generation um so that ordination from the all
01:39:32.160 father himself to steve in 1968 when steve was a young man is what has given birth and given rise
01:39:41.760 to this all that we have in the house true folk assembly um when steve decided to step back and
01:39:48.080 retire to do other things and pursue other interests he passed that to me it was confirmed
01:39:56.560 by the icer at uh like technically i was made the australia go through in mid-summer of 2016.
01:40:05.680 but i was kind of there's a transition period where i was kind of restructuring things starting
01:40:13.080 at uh austra of 2016 and at austra of 2017 um the gods put a hand on my shoulder and reassured me of
01:40:26.200 the approval of of my position and
01:40:31.020 so that brings it to me and a responsibility i have to preserve the integrity of our of our
01:40:40.760 of our institutions of our faith and try to to the best of my ability um strengthen that
01:40:48.720 and build that in my time here so that when I pass that,
01:40:53.720 when I pass from Midgard beyond the veil,
01:40:56.860 that I can hand over the best version of this that I can to whoever follows me.
01:41:05.440 It is one of the very stated rights of the Elshirgaothi
01:41:08.880 to be able to name his successor.
01:41:12.820 There's a variety of factors in that.
01:41:15.280 so I spend a good time a good deal of time praying on that it's something that
01:41:22.420 I try to seek the council of the Isir on it's something I give a lot of thought
01:41:28.240 to and it's I keep a list in the drawer of my altar and I change this list every
01:41:35.520 so often it kind of irregular periods certainly when I travel I'm like okay
01:41:40.340 something happens wrong your affairs order and I think it's really important
01:41:44.140 have triple redundancy where we can so i keep a list of the top three in order of right of refusal
01:41:53.500 people that i want to succeed me should anything happen to me and you know people could refuse
01:42:00.380 or they could be with me when calamity happened or whatever might be the case i think it's my
01:42:07.020 responsibility to make sure that transitions smoothly so i keep a running list of three
01:42:11.500 people they don't have to be go thar they don't have to be there's no specific requirement other
01:42:19.820 than they are the people that i think in the order of who is the best person to
01:42:29.020 move this into the next stage after i pass and so i try to keep that updated don't always change it
01:42:36.540 some of the names kind of shift position on that list of of folks and there's a variety of different
01:42:42.300 reasons that it may look the way it looks at a different time and it changes um i wouldn't say
01:42:48.860 often but it does change from time to time so that's what i got somebody who's watching this
01:42:54.060 thinking we're going to talk about the scout scapermel we will at some point but this is
01:43:00.060 this shows roots we come from a question and answer thing this is the primary point of this
01:43:08.620 and the rest is we want a theme to talk about between questions and answers and you want to
01:43:14.380 talk about i promise we'll read at least one one section if not more but the questions and
01:43:20.780 the answers are really important and they're also very timely and they speak to currents
01:43:25.100 out there that our folk need to hear about so that's why we um that's why we're unpromised
01:43:31.740 in favor of questions over uh lore study periods we have one more question lined up and then we
01:43:38.460 will get into the text i promise well i promise we will once questions are done we may have more
01:43:44.700 popped up before we're done with this answer austin asks both of them and thor are often
01:43:50.780 compared with another Aesir, usually Tyr and Freyr.
01:43:55.500 Is there a more correct combination of the three
01:43:59.780 or do they have different meanings
01:44:01.100 for different circumstances?
01:44:02.940 Svan, what say you?
01:44:05.880 There's one word, I'm gonna say it.
01:44:08.600 I say it all the time.
01:44:11.840 Tripartite is a relationship number.
01:44:17.840 It is a point of relationship that happens over and over and over again in Aryan mythos. 1.00
01:44:28.280 Yes, please drink.
01:44:31.460 So I'm not saying that that relationship always has to have some sort of grand esoteric meaning,
01:44:41.700 But it is a massive part of the way that our ancestors were told by the gods that the universe moves.
01:44:52.000 And so whether it's Yggdrasil and Ymir and Adumla or whether it's Fenris and Jormungandr and Hel, the triplication point always goes towards mobility.
01:45:10.420 and um we see that the tripartite amongst the germanic folk has always been varied and i would
01:45:21.660 argue um that there are more like thrones upon which the gods fulfill wishes of the people but
01:45:33.120 since they're gods they they're not beholden simply to um a perfect example is it survives
01:45:41.920 in the days of our week tuesday uh wednesday and thursday and generally the structure of
01:45:51.120 it is always that the middle one is the highest um then if you look amongst the swedes we see
01:46:00.320 that there is uh lord thor in the center and or at least according to the accounts of adam of bremen
01:46:09.120 is that lord thor is in the center and that there is the furious one and the fruitful one uh next
01:46:17.120 to him and um based on these kind of variations i am of the belief that our ancestors actually
01:46:26.560 moved the gods around on these thrones or podiums based on the things that they were
01:46:35.260 attempting to ask for and build relationship with lord odin is the lord and the king of the gods
01:46:44.680 but he's not a spiteful god uh i know you had mentioned earlier else here that people were
01:46:52.380 saying like you don't want lord othen to witness you but he's gonna witness you he has his means
01:47:00.340 of doing that but what more importantly is that all right time time i was saying that that is an
01:47:06.280 old canard yeah it was said and now so true i not abide by that i invite no no sorry yeah not
01:47:12.720 i hope that he finds me worthy in that witness
01:47:15.300 yeah i i just think that even our ancestors and this argument would then be kind of uh able to
01:47:25.040 be placed um on that concept in in the older times is that our ancestors knew the power
01:47:34.860 of lord ovin and of the other gods but and saw the hierarchy but also understood that
01:47:44.140 they preferred to uh honor the personhood or the godhood i should say but it's again the individual
01:47:55.100 nature of a specific god over another uh they could pray to lord odin for fair weather and
01:48:06.640 good crops, but it's like asking the electrician to do your plumbing. So the gods have their
01:48:16.500 functionality. This is how we know them. And that's what builds the multiplicity of our
01:48:22.940 relationship. We don't have a singular that, again, nature doesn't work that way. And nature
01:48:30.660 is a reflection of the divine so there is a multiplicity there is a network but there is also
01:48:37.300 hierarchy and that hierarchy is wise enough to allow those who do the best job to answer
01:48:46.500 the needs of the folk without being angry jealous uh i mean again there are stories where
01:48:55.060 his concerns are perhaps um not in a line with with say the fruitfulness of the field but
01:49:02.980 there's going to be a harvest in war and i think that that a lot of that poetic nature
01:49:09.220 is kind of reflecting on the harshness of realities if the fields don't get blessed
01:49:16.740 there could be starvation and if you are fruitful in fields you may need to be very prepared to
01:49:25.140 defend your land from usurpers coming in and attempting to take it so there are harsh realities
01:49:32.740 i think the gods don't want us to turn away from but that that triplication all throughout and 0.99
01:49:41.620 then it gets even crazier if you look in all the other aryan branches in the hellenics they numbered 0.90
01:49:48.100 theirs zeus carries a scepter or a lightning bolt after influence from the uh baal phoenicians um 0.75
01:49:59.860 and that uh neptune or poseidon carries a trident and everyone forgets hades carries a bident so
01:50:09.700 So it's one, two, and three.
01:50:12.680 Any Aryan group you look at, you can see the gods sitting in those thrones and allocating themselves to the people as is needed.
01:50:27.560 And I think a lot of people make the mistake of, oh, no, no, no. 0.99
01:50:30.500 um the gods can't move around and um the top god is is always uh lord odin which is true
01:50:41.560 but amongst folk i think that lord odin definitely um allowed his son and other gods to function
01:50:53.480 in the desire based off those cultures it's not about usurping him as the lord god and high god
01:51:02.080 of of the iser it's that um the folk needed something else and part of his wisdom is to say
01:51:11.260 okay no you step up on this and and i think that's very powerful and people just try to
01:51:18.500 force the gods into their little boxes and and when you do that it becomes painfully aware that
01:51:27.000 it's it's it doesn't quite fit it it requires a lot of mental gymnastics and um people try still
01:51:35.260 either way but we should look at the observation of the gods in the stories and throughout all the
01:51:42.380 other brother and sister branches of aryan mythos and i think we come to a very logical conclusion
01:51:51.180 based on those observations
01:51:55.340 so i think
01:52:00.140 i think our ancestors often have really particular reasons why they choose a particular
01:52:05.980 version of
01:52:08.780 three. I think something inherently
01:52:10.560 in three is like a complete, well-rounded
01:52:12.900 thing to, you know,
01:52:14.640 choose
01:52:15.260 three different
01:52:18.520 gods with a variety
01:52:20.960 of function
01:52:22.580 or
01:52:23.080 whatever. But I've also seen where
01:52:26.660 people choose
01:52:27.640 three gods for their similarity
01:52:30.700 to, like, make something triple-powered.
01:52:35.980 Yeah, so there's compounding, there's diversifying, but one of the things that I would just caution about, we have, I don't want to put this.
01:52:52.640 There is a current amongst people, oftentimes people that don't practice house to true or are new in their practice to focus really heavily on strange taboos about stuff.
01:53:14.880 They're always worried about getting it wrong.
01:53:19.540 Always, always, always be respectful and be pious.
01:53:23.360 but i don't think you have to worry about getting it wrong all the time i don't think there is the
01:53:28.160 right combination of gods for a given thing i think if you call upon one you're fine call
01:53:36.160 one two you're fine or four but make your reasoning intentional sometimes you may just
01:53:43.920 have a particular devotion to some that you are closer to so you may have those prominently on
01:53:50.560 your altar maybe some that's the only ones you could find idols for there's a variety of different
01:53:57.200 reasons and i don't think any of them are wrong as long as they're well-intentioned
01:54:02.400 you could have your three gods on your altar be you know vidar valley and hang dollar you
01:54:10.000 could do a lot of different things so i wouldn't i wouldn't put too much
01:54:15.040 put intention behind what you do but i wouldn't worry that you're doing it wrong and there's some
01:54:24.960 perfect alignment or arrangement i don't think that's the case i think there's a big variety
01:54:29.920 of reasons that our ancestors did the different things that they did um okay last question for 0.80
01:54:37.360 For tonight, I promise, can women become the al-Sheri-Gothi? 0.99
01:54:43.540 No, but that's a trick answer because al-Sheri-Gothi means man. 1.00
01:54:49.460 Women could absolutely technically become the al-Sheri-Gothi. 0.97
01:54:58.040 I say that. 1.00
01:54:59.080 I leave that possibility open.
01:55:03.100 there is no inherent um there's no inherent rule against that um but
01:55:19.900 that would look different and i think that the
01:55:22.460 the Alsharyr Godhord, or the Alsharyr Gothic reign of a Alsharyr Githia would look different,
01:55:33.180 and she would wield power in a different way, I think. But I don't rule that out. There's
01:55:41.280 certainly no rule against that, and I have no reason to believe that the gods are opposed
01:55:47.620 to that um yeah so yes there's no rule against that or prohibition particularly
01:56:00.940 um but yeah that would look really different but i don't again i don't think there's any
01:56:07.860 fundamental rule against that i do think it would look different and i think that their style of
01:56:12.960 administration might be very different and probably would be um and probably in a really
01:56:19.960 cool way that would be different um but yeah there's no rule against that
01:56:24.920 finally at long last an hour and 56 minutes in it's fun would you like to take them to uh
01:56:35.260 Section 26 of the Scalds Gappers Mall.
01:56:39.460 Absolutely.
01:56:40.100 Scalds Gappers Mall, Thor's Journey to the Dwelling of Gerolder.
01:56:49.000 All right.
01:56:55.460 Okay, here we go.
01:56:58.720 All right.
01:57:00.380 So, 26.
01:57:03.360 You said 26, correct?
01:57:05.260 or are we 27 26 okay 26 now in this section for everybody um these are large story
01:57:20.980 blocks which i think are awesome sometimes the poetics are flexed because of their disciplines
01:57:29.180 But when we get story blocks, we do get a huge chunk of information.
01:57:36.580 And I, you know, I feel like these transfer things a little bit better for people that don't understand the poetic side.
01:57:48.220 um thor's journey to the dwelling of gerolder uh spear uh spear ride no no it's not rider but uh
01:58:05.420 i'm gonna have to look that back up again um
01:58:10.240 Um, so it is said then, Ayr speaks and he says,
01:58:20.220 Methinks Hrongnir was of great might.
01:58:27.420 Did Thor accomplish yet more valorous deeds when he had to do with trolls?
01:58:35.520 so this again is a conversation between ayer and bravi the significance i think of ayer
01:58:49.740 in relation to the gods is an interesting one but it could also be that he is uh kind of an outsider
01:58:59.580 coming under the dominion of the gods and he is learning of the stories of the gods and just
01:59:09.120 how formidable and i don't think it's an accident that it's lord thor uh a year is a joten of the
01:59:18.860 middle world of descendancy of emir and he is of the primordial ocean and the gods
01:59:28.280 establishing their dominion over the most primordial section of the world is, I don't
01:59:38.320 think, an accident. And flexing Lord Thor and saying from a historical and like two warriors
01:59:49.140 or two tribes, again, it's the, this is my champion and my champion is so strong. I will
01:59:56.620 tell you many of his deeds but from an esoteric standpoint the lord of strength and uh of the earth
02:00:08.160 and of heaven is encapsulating your primordial desires don't step out of line um so
02:00:19.660 um also another thing too trolls remember we've spoken about this before the word troll is kind of
02:00:29.260 our closest um point to like a monster and i wouldn't say demon because demon is greek and
02:00:39.060 it means like a lesser uh hercules according to the greeks fit that description no these are
02:00:47.240 deeply primordial uh energies of yachting uh origin but are degraded and honed down with
02:00:59.960 even malice towards the folk and other things so they're they're cared that the troll word is is
02:01:07.720 um sometimes used interchangeably all over the place but it does have a certain air of
02:01:13.400 of, uh, just trepidation on it. Um, so Bragi answers, it is worthy to be told at length
02:01:27.220 how Thor went to Gerother's dwelling. At that time, he had not the hammer of Mjolnir with him,
02:01:38.200 nor did he have the girdle of might
02:01:41.660 the belt of earth strength
02:01:44.440 nor did he have
02:01:47.420 iron gripper and iron glover
02:01:51.760 the two iron gloves
02:01:53.820 and that was the fault of Loki
02:01:57.900 who went with him
02:02:00.440 for once flying in his sport
02:02:04.700 with Frigg's hawk plumage every time that Loki takes into this kind of liminal transformation
02:02:14.440 into um birds he's donning the cloak of one of the goddesses that's interesting um but in this case
02:02:24.980 he uh and the hawk is associated with the goddess frig oftentimes people only relegate
02:02:35.080 um the heron and i try to encourage our folk to understand that the gods are gods
02:02:41.060 it's it's like you uh you you can't say oh well you're you can only be a goat or you can only be
02:02:50.680 a hawk. The gods can do what they want, but there are far more broad things. So he takes her cloak
02:02:59.520 and this idea of donning the cloak of feathers to turn into a creature that can move through
02:03:11.080 these liminal spaces very, very swiftly. Again, I think these are very old points of our faith
02:03:20.140 all the way back um into certain traditions long before uh things were written down um so
02:03:30.060 uh for once flying in his sport as he saw it with frigg's hawk plumage it had happened
02:03:39.020 to loki to fly for curiosity's sake into the court of gerard
02:03:45.180 there he saw a great hall and alighted and looked in through the window and there
02:03:55.760 Gerard looked up and saw him immediately and commanded that the bird be taken and brought to
02:04:03.100 him but he was but he who was sent could scarce get on top of the wall to gain him so high it was
02:04:13.020 in this hall and it seemed pleasant to loki to see this man striving with toil and pains
02:04:22.140 to reach him he thought it was not yet time to fly away until the other had accomplished
02:04:30.120 the perilous climb again right there there is the the the jotnar are trying to reach it
02:04:39.520 and he's taking pleasure in them trying to climb so precariously he has so much humorous that he's
02:04:48.000 they're not going to catch me and it would just be funnier if two tried to do it and fell um so
02:04:55.720 he uh striving with toil and the pains to reach him and he thought it was not yet time to fly
02:05:04.020 until the other had accomplished the perilous climb.
02:05:08.300 When the man pressed hard against him,
02:05:11.060 then he stretched his wings for flight
02:05:13.460 and thrust out vehemently.
02:05:17.280 But his feet were stuck fast.
02:05:21.960 So Loki was taken and brought before Gerodhr, the giant.
02:05:27.420 But when Gerodhr saw his eyes,
02:05:30.420 he suspected this might not be just just a man and bade him answer but loki was silent then
02:05:40.900 gerother shut loki into a chest and starved him for three months and when gerother took him out
02:05:50.820 and commanded him to speak loki told who he was and by way of ransom for his life he swore to
02:05:59.460 gerrother with oaths that he would get thor to come into gerrother's dwelling in such a fashion
02:06:08.420 that he would have neither hammer nor girdle or the girdle of might with him so the establishment
02:06:18.180 here anything that touches the kingdom of gerrother as soon as the hawk tries to leave no
02:06:26.500 So the Jotnar and specifically Gerarder too, what is his he owns?
02:06:35.960 So Loki goes in and lands and just thinks this is absolutely funny.
02:06:41.360 But when it comes time to fly away, he suddenly realizes there's no flying away.
02:06:46.540 there there's almost a um unexplained magical consumptive nature uh of of the um hall itself
02:06:57.500 so he's brought in there and there's magic afoot he sees this he places them it places him in the
02:07:05.940 chest and tortures him again for you know it's like that the three the number three is just
02:07:13.840 utilized throughout even uh post-christianity with like hans christian anderson or the grimms
02:07:23.060 fairy tales which are deeply influenced by uh pre-christian stuff there's it's the the number
02:07:30.920 three so he says okay i am loki and i swear to you that i will bring him into this hall
02:07:42.060 and he will be weaponless and beltless the belt that doubles his strength i will
02:07:48.180 defang him so that you can control him so already starting off uh in in the essence of
02:07:58.280 with nothing so um thor came to spend the night with that giantess who was called grither
02:08:09.220 The mother of Vidar, the silent. Vidar is one of our Aus. He's one of the Aesir. And Lord Thor goes there to be with her, not in an intimacy sense.
02:08:28.620 He goes there because she has already established connectivity.
02:08:33.660 That's why we have some of the Jotnar in our list of Austvinir, as they are the mother of some of the gods, and they've already showed this connectivity.
02:08:47.100 But again, praying to them, it's not the same as praying to the gods that go to the well of earth.
02:08:56.060 Those gods are deeply invested in watching us. I think that there are other goddesses, the Austvenir, that are of Jotun descent, and they are very much inclined to continue on with their track of Orla without the consideration or prayers of humans.
02:09:17.820 honoring them is nice honoring those who are aligned with the gods is always good
02:09:23.160 but assuming that you're going to gain anything out of it that's a different story
02:09:28.680 so he goes to grither grither means conflict and much like yarth the conflict or grinding of the
02:09:41.220 land um is is associated that the geyser the sulfuric acidic pools and the deep dark caverns
02:09:53.660 of the earth are often associated with her and so um at this point if we were to look at it
02:10:01.640 chronologically um based on what snorty was doing and i'm not saying that this is correct or not but
02:10:07.600 He was kind of attempting to create that chronological sense, and it would seem that Gríðr is not yet the mother of Vidar, but is being stated here kind of as reference.
02:10:24.620 So she tells Thor the truth about Gerardr, that he is an extremely crafty giant.
02:10:35.880 He is very ill to deal with.
02:10:38.820 And she decides to lend him the girdle of might and the iron gloves upon which she possesses.
02:10:47.400 So a lot of people don't realize Njolnir is made during the brokerage with Loki and the dwarves, the sons of Ivaldi, but it is the gloves and the belt and specifically the iron rod that is on the mural at Thorshof comes from Gríðr, an Austvenír.
02:11:15.040 and by lending him these alone she is a beloved one in alignment so she gives him the girdle of
02:11:26.100 might and iron gloves and her staff or rod which is called grither's rod then thor proceeded to
02:11:37.360 the river named vimmer it was the greatest of all all rivers where he girded himself with the girdle
02:11:45.740 of might and braced firmly downstream with grither's rod so he's trying to cross this river
02:11:53.420 and he's utilizing the staff as a strut and loki held on behind holding on to his belt so basically
02:12:04.380 grab my belt loop um and again this immediately does establish many things about loki his um
02:12:13.820 non-adherence to masculinity um and kind of dipping his toes into femininity and this is
02:12:23.020 a perfect example he he's holding on uh to the belt of lord thor as they cross the river
02:12:30.380 um now when thor came to the mid current the river began to wax so greatly that it broke
02:12:40.560 high up upon and around his shoulders thor then sang this wax thou not now vimur for i fain
02:12:53.300 would wade thee into the giant's garth know thou if thou waxest then waxeth god's strength in me
02:13:05.260 as high up as the heavens so he's singing a a poetic song that follows alliterative poetry
02:13:16.660 and in essence us a spell if you will you may grow and wax but as you do you shall increase
02:13:27.960 my strength so that what you're trying to stop will become even more inevitable
02:13:33.980 so then Thor saw gyalp and gyalp survives in our language with the word yelp or to cry out
02:13:47.600 but in in this sense it is more of a kind of a battle cry or a kind of a warnings cry and
02:14:00.000 also associated with the voice. So you see here that it might have magical implications.
02:14:10.820 So Thor looks up the river and he sees Gjelp, who is the daughter of Geralder,
02:14:18.280 standing in certain ravines, one leg in each, spanning that river.
02:14:25.420 and she was causing the space so she was raising the water up so she's using her magic to
02:14:37.100 drought thor and thor not having any of it and this is again we see these in arian stories of
02:14:48.680 the chaotic feminine because there is there is the ordered feminine there is the focused feminine
02:14:56.740 this is chaotic and the masculine we see this you know like in the story of perseus and medusa and
02:15:05.240 many other uh forms where we see this the birthing of of chaos elements being quelled
02:15:13.540 by the strength of the masculine and in this case he reaches down into the river and he snatches up
02:15:21.520 a great stone out of the river and he casts it at her saying these words at its source should a river
02:15:31.420 be stemmed nor did he miss that at which he threw so uh lord thor does not miss that which he throws
02:15:45.020 whether it's mjolnir or not and at the river as she is the source of that river it should be stemmed
02:15:54.220 and in that moment he came to the shore and took hold of a rowan branch or clump and climbed out
02:16:04.920 of the river whence the saying that rowan is thor's deliverance so uh the rowan tree the rowan
02:16:16.200 branches, specifically I can name during our Nornanot, is used for protection, but it is also
02:16:27.080 often associated with Seif, the goddess, who is the goddess of the farm and the family and the field.
02:16:37.880 And so we may have proof that there is a cross pollination with the finish where they have their god that is like Thor and his wife is associated with rowan trees.
02:16:59.540 so he grabs the rowan and thus makes it a sacred tree that pulls him out of the river
02:17:07.320 after braining this witch and uh i'm sure loki is sopping wet um now thor then comes to gerard
02:17:20.360 the companions were shown first into the goat fold and that is uh when we read the stories
02:17:29.880 we learn some things including just historical facts and this is the area where the animals would
02:17:38.520 be brought in especially in iceland animals were brought into the front half of the hall
02:17:44.600 there was a wall separating them but in there there was oftentimes beds placed above them
02:17:52.200 because the heat of the animals was um shared heat and again the weather would
02:17:59.880 kill them so if the if the animals were small enough they were brought into a
02:18:04.120 front section of the hall and that's where that is the goat fold um so first they were shown into
02:18:10.440 the goat fold for their entertainment and there was one chair there for a seat so thor sat there
02:18:19.960 think of it as the um the uh oh my goodness i just forgot the name of it um when you enter into a
02:18:27.080 hall into a house it's the foyer uh if you will um and he sits he sits down perhaps you clean off the
02:18:35.960 boots or what have you um then he became aware that the chair moved under him up toward the roof
02:18:45.640 slowly began to rise so he thrust grither's rod up against the rafters and pushed back hard against
02:18:55.720 the chair so in the land of the yotnar he sits into the front hall of gerader and suddenly his
02:19:04.360 gravity his uh weight is challenged as he's lifted up and he takes a rod of iron to realign himself
02:19:15.680 and make sure that he doesn't rise up um so then there was a great crash and then screaming
02:19:25.000 followed under the chair had been gerard's daughter yelp and now this is interesting because
02:19:35.780 yelp and grape um yelp has already been brained by the stone so there is some inconsistency here
02:19:46.720 and we've spoken about how the scriptoriums when they were writing the poems out oftentimes
02:19:54.780 had multiple people writing sections in order to disperse and spread out the work. So sometimes
02:20:03.180 there are repetitions, especially if each individual script writer is attempting to maintain
02:20:12.380 alliteration. So we know of the two daughters, unless there is possibly a third who is the same
02:20:24.560 name as Gjelp but it's uh again we're entering into the the world of speculation based on
02:20:33.600 on um the the script of it um Gjelp and Greip and he had broken both their backs by pressing
02:20:46.760 down with the rod. Then Gerardr had Thor called into the hall to play games. So what we kind of
02:20:58.660 see here is this lifting off the ground, another, I think, symbolic point of the catalyst throne
02:21:07.760 being detached from the ground um but it's not done in malice it's done almost as as in a trick
02:21:17.380 and i don't think gerard really connects um that but he immediately proves to them they try to do
02:21:27.680 the river daughter gets the stone they try to lift him up into the rafters perhaps to even crush him
02:21:35.180 and he crushes right back so when he does get invited into the hall um he's asked to play games
02:21:44.820 like uh there is a popular game most people know uh it's uh not not for top food or battle table
02:21:55.620 um and other games uh like chess uh there there are great fires that span the whole length of the
02:22:06.720 hall thor then comes up over and against gerader so he sits down across from him then gerader took
02:22:16.600 up a glowing bar of iron in the fire with tongs and cast it at thor thor caught it with his iron
02:22:25.600 gloves and raised the bar into the air, but Geradr leapt behind an iron pillar to save himself.
02:22:35.120 Thor lifted up the bar and through it, it passed through the pillar and through Geradr and through
02:22:44.200 the wall, and so on, out of the hall, even into the earth.
02:22:51.240 Eilivir Gundrasund has wrote verses on this story in Thorstraupa.
02:23:01.220 He writes,
02:23:03.460 The winding sea snake's father did wile from home the slayer of the life of the god's grim foeman.
02:23:14.200 even even was lopter a liar the never faithful searcher of the heart of the fearless thunderer 0.65
02:23:23.240 declared green ways were lying to the walled stead of gerard so loki is up to no good and he
02:23:33.620 goes to gerard and despite all the trickery and his promise that lord thor would be weaponless
02:23:41.180 and mightiless. It doesn't matter. Thor says, no, there are only green ways. There are only
02:23:48.180 the soft green grass roads to Gerard. He's not afraid.
02:23:57.960 No long space Thor let Loki lure him to going. They yearned to overmaster Thorne's offspring,
02:24:09.500 balthorn one of uh the jotnar um then but when the seeker of eve's guard
02:24:20.320 then giants greater in might made ready in ancient days for faring to the giant seat
02:24:29.200 from odins and again either either of all the the land of the of the gods in heaven um it is
02:24:40.440 uh a kind of placing that connection that lord thor is moving from either of all to the land of
02:24:48.460 the giants um faring there um further in faring forward went war like the alvi the alvi is the
02:25:01.480 compatriot um ever present uh and i find this very interesting that we did this in uh comics
02:25:10.100 where we have grand heroes and there's always a kind of a child-like um sidekick that kind of
02:25:20.520 us we associate with and Thealvi is just that he is that connective point I think any young child
02:25:30.300 um listening to the stories would would be like I would love to just be Thealvi and just going on
02:25:38.360 these crazy adventures with lord thor who is smashing uh giants and and uh throwing snakes
02:25:48.240 and things like that it's it's great um so forward went the warlike theology so he went with him
02:25:56.160 with the divine host shearer then the deceiving lover of her of enchanted singing
02:26:07.140 I chant the ale of Odin, the hill dame's mocker measured, the moor with hollow foot soles.
02:26:20.420 That part there, you know, I would have to look especially in there, like the reference of the moor with hollow foot soles.
02:26:31.240 excuse me um but here we see that loki is associated with lord odin he's seen as the
02:26:40.900 the the deceiver more like lord odin people accuse him of being this deceiver and i i think it's
02:26:49.700 greatly misplaced and here is another kind of inference that no it is not lord odin it is
02:26:57.360 Loki and in a way oftentimes in the poems it's always like why is Loki here there's always kind
02:27:07.180 of like this trepidation of why let the outsider in why let this um mocking and venomous element in
02:27:16.180 um so it goes on and the war wanted journeyed so the the war wanting
02:27:26.740 Thor, till the hill woman's waster came to Gangr's blood, the Vimir, then Loki's bale
02:27:39.340 repeller, eager in anger, lavish of valor, long to struggle against the maid, kinswoman, 0.81
02:27:48.480 of the sedge cowled giant sedge of course meaning hedges or borderlands that she is cowled by
02:28:01.500 the hedgerow or the the sedges of the swamp kind of uh the uh just outside of uh the garther 0.58
02:28:13.540 and the honor lessener of the lady of the sea crag one foot hold in the surging of the hail
02:28:25.980 rolled leaping hill spate so she's spoken of as being the lady of the sea crag she 0.70
02:28:33.640 straddles the river and this is yelp um the rock knave's swift pursuer past the broad stream 0.61
02:28:46.540 of his staff's road where the foam flecked mighty rivers froth with raging venom
02:28:54.860 there they set the staves before them in the streaming grove of dogfish the wind
02:29:04.080 woods slippery pebbles so lord thor places the the rod into the water to gain a good
02:29:14.080 hold and then he reaches down and he grabs a stone it's in the um the grove of the dogfish
02:29:21.780 The estuary bed or the river bed.
02:29:28.320 The wind with slippery pebbles, smitten to speech, slept not.
02:29:34.700 The clashing rod did rattle against the worn rocks and the rapid.
02:29:40.800 Of the fells howled, storms smitten on the river's stony anvil.
02:29:47.300 the weaver of the girdle beheld the washing slope stream fall on his hard-grown shoulders
02:29:57.760 no help he found to save him the miniature of hill folk the diminisher of trolls the diminisher
02:30:08.360 of the um forces of chaos of the elder mountains of the elder land it's lord thor no one came to
02:30:18.660 save him and uh the girdle that he gained from grither is where he begins to pull up his might
02:30:28.980 from the other earth there is of the goddess yard and there are people that have tried to say that
02:30:37.300 yard is frig no the stratification of the gods shows their dominion over many aspects that's
02:30:46.980 they're trying to do that so they can justify that all the gods are just simply one sky god
02:30:53.140 and then you basically have sky daddy earth mommy and it's like scholarly wiccan and it's
02:31:00.740 it's not hard polytheistic um ideology so um the miniature of the hill folk caused might to grow
02:31:12.040 within him even to the roof of heaven till the rushing flood should ebb the fair warriors of the
02:31:19.140 isir in battle wise fast waited so they quickly crossed and in this sense with um the poem it's
02:31:27.820 fialvi loki and thor and he reaches to in an attempt to cross swiftly the surging pool
02:31:37.340 sword sweeping streamed sword meaning like swarthy sweeping down torrents of dark water
02:31:47.860 streamed the earth drifts billow blown by a mighty tempest so she's not only raising the water
02:31:56.600 She's raising a storm. Blown by a mighty tempest, tugged with monstrous fury at the terrible oppressor of the earthborn tribe of the cave folk. 1.00
02:32:11.000 That is, of course, Gelp. And she is of the earthborn tribe. 1.00
02:32:16.340 And the point of that being of the middle, they're of the middle world.
02:32:22.300 and that is very important um all of that directionality till fialvi came uplifted
02:32:31.620 onto his lord's wide shield strap that was a mighty few test so he fialvi's pulling himself
02:32:43.780 up on the shield strap um of lord thor not so much like hiding down near his
02:32:52.300 belt he's trying to remain up and the strap is being tested that was a mighty few test
02:33:01.260 from the prop of heaven the maidens of harmful giant stiffly held the stream stubborn against
02:33:10.700 them the giantess destroyer lord thor with grither staff fared sternly nor did their hearts of
02:33:21.420 rancor droop in the men unblemished nor courage against the headlong fall from the current fail
02:33:30.540 them a fiercer and daring spirit flamed up in the dauntless god's breast with terror thor's staunch
02:33:41.180 heartstone trembled not nor theologies it kind of speaks for itself but there's another reference
02:33:49.580 there of the heart stone i know that some people were talking about krongnir's heart being the
02:33:55.660 valk not no the idea of a heart stone seems across the board he is a hardened heart and he doesn't
02:34:06.460 diminish he doubles in and the alvi moves with him and afterwards the haters of the host of sword
02:34:16.860 companions the shatterer of buckler shields dimmed on the shield of giants air the destroying 0.75
02:34:25.740 peoples of the shingle drift of monsters this is of course the jotnar and he is
02:34:35.100 they're they're um they're haters of the sword companions the brothers in arms that is lord
02:34:43.100 Thor and Theology. And they're the air, the destroying peoples of the shingle or the slate
02:34:54.300 drift, the collapsing stone and kind of the chaos of Earth element.
02:35:02.040 um wrought the helm play of hidden against the rock dwelling marksmen so lord thor
02:35:15.500 uh goes against gyalp the hostile folk of sea heights fled before the oppressor
02:35:25.460 Of headland tribes, the dalesmen of the hilltops imperiled, fled when Odin's kindred stood enduring staunchly. 0.82
02:35:37.620 So, they try to raise the river, and after the throwing of the stone, they flee.
02:35:46.680 The Danes of the flood-reef's borders bowed down to the flame-shaker.
02:35:55.460 And again, the the waves, I believe it's the waves of the river start to die down and the usage of the word Danes being kind of the multitude, the host or perhaps the the population of the flood reefs borders.
02:36:20.420 The river stops overflowing and they bow down to the flame shaker, another height of Lord Thor, where the chiefs with thoughts of valor imbued marched into Thorne's house.
02:36:37.920 A mighty crash resounding. Of the cave's ring wall, the slayer of the mountain reindeer people on the giant maiden's wide hood was brought into bitter peril. There was baleful peace talk.
02:36:59.460 Another interesting point here is this reference to the mountain reindeer people.
02:37:07.600 This is partially why I was drawing an ibex in relation to the Austveneer Skavi is in reference to the Finnish relationship to the Nords.
02:37:25.020 The Nords got no time for the sun.
02:37:27.660 right he's got he's got no time for for any of this uh strange magics and that's the context
02:37:38.860 yeah and the nords looked at the fins as having possessed of this strange magics
02:37:48.220 so that's another this is a this is a very long section it's funny because it's followed by the
02:37:54.620 ah how would we refer to afraid and it's like a paragraph um
02:38:02.860 and i don't think that chris and i have touched on this in our history things we're talking about
02:38:08.220 scandinavia and we should i'll kind of make a note to him but like the sami there's these strange
02:38:17.660 there are strange people that exist on their periphery that are not us what i think is
02:38:29.020 interesting on this channel is we do get people that are very racially aware and there's often a
02:38:36.700 a, we live in a world where racism is the, I say racism loosely, but where race relations
02:38:49.380 is such a common social and media and political discussion because there's a lot of contact
02:39:00.920 between us and other races and in modern times that wasn't the case with our ancestors so people
02:39:07.800 look alive they're like oh you know in the lore are they really thinking that maybe the yotan are
02:39:14.360 really you know whatever other race of people very seldom in our lord do they mention different
02:39:21.240 kinds of people it's interesting because there's a few little bits and this is one of the ones
02:39:28.280 where they do talk about different kinds of people.
02:39:31.900 They talk about it in terms of Inuit,
02:39:35.240 Sami, slash certain elements of Finnic peoples.
02:39:40.660 And they also talk about it in terms of 0.91
02:39:44.220 Skrillings in the New World Vinlander saga.
02:39:50.780 And I think they talk about
02:39:52.620 Moors
02:39:56.720 and Arabs with the term
02:39:58.640 blue men because they're blue black
02:40:00.660 but yeah
02:40:04.720 it's very very seldom
02:40:06.380 that we get any references to different
02:40:08.640 races of people so I just figured I would
02:40:10.620 point out like buddy looking
02:40:12.000 you know trying to poke
02:40:14.600 us with a stick to get us to do a racism
02:40:16.700 this is an interesting thing they do actually
02:40:18.840 mention a different
02:40:19.900 race of people for you know
02:40:22.620 once yeah and you're absolutely right there's there's many verses i'm trying to quickly
02:40:33.500 explain some of the things without oh as a side note on that so i made the joke the swarthy skin
02:40:40.700 that indra hates but it's a funny thing that is mentioned in um i believe that's in the
02:40:48.780 right now but the idea that thor is um a champion of our folk against other folk that encroach upon
02:41:00.540 our territory or that we have any kind of an animosity with um he's not just a champion of
02:41:07.740 mankind he's a champion of of us of arian mankind against other tribes and other
02:41:14.780 um groups that we would come into contact with so he's very much a defender of of our folk
02:41:21.100 against other people which i think is a um i don't know an important thing to point out and it's it's
02:41:28.780 fun for whatever other reasons but it is significant that when our because one of the
02:41:37.900 this is strange deviation for this you know one line in this particular poem but
02:41:44.220 Now, we hear sometimes the idea that, you know, oh, Odin's the all-father, not the some-father.
02:41:53.040 This is for all of mankind.
02:41:56.180 And as just woke tripe as that is, it's worth, okay, well, why is that?
02:42:07.240 You know, does it make reference to that kind of thing in the lore?
02:42:10.340 Well, it does.
02:42:11.260 when he talks about you know thor is the defender of man it was never meant to be all people that
02:42:17.980 scientists today would classify as modern humans it was meant to be of us he is the champion of
02:42:24.620 us of our folk against the other folk that we would come into contact with and it's not some
02:42:32.140 kind of inherent negative thing it just means you know he's championing the home team he's
02:42:37.660 He's our protector and our ashamed people. And that's a really important thing to
02:42:46.380 appreciate and to celebrate about Asafor.
02:43:00.220 So it's also recounting, the poem is recounting what we already covered, but it's using
02:43:07.420 tons of alliteration and so it's if you think about the point in which they that lord thor
02:43:17.180 goes into the hall and then they try to crush him against the ceiling and he manages to push
02:43:23.420 himself down that's this next part um see they pass or they pressed the high head bearing the
02:43:34.540 piercing brow moon's eye flame so the piercing eyes of lord thor his countenance as the brow moon
02:43:48.260 or brow uh moon's eye flame all of this is is of his uh his eyes his countenance against the hill
02:44:01.180 Hall's rafters. On the high roof tree broken, he crushed those raging women, the swinging storm
02:44:10.980 car's guider. That's Lord Thor. He's the swinging storm wane or chariot guider. Burst the stout 0.98
02:44:23.400 ancient back ridge and breast bones of both women. Earth's son, he is the Lord of heaven 1.00
02:44:33.380 and earth, became familiar with knowledge strange. These cavemen of the land of stone
02:44:43.960 overcame not nor long with ale were merry the frightful elm strings plucker the friend of sudry
02:44:56.500 hurtled the hot bar in the forge fused into the hand of odin's gladner so the elm strings
02:45:08.820 plucker again referencing to um music or the um magic of kind of i guess i would say like bardic
02:45:23.180 or skaldic but this is in reference of course to gerother whose name uh ger is uh spear and
02:45:32.060 rather is redner the redner and he is the friend of sudri and he's the one that hurdles the hot
02:45:44.440 bar uh in the forge fused and i i would argue there too maybe there is some possibility of
02:45:52.500 looking at there is a connection there with that with gerader the jotnar specifically and the south
02:46:00.380 Sudri. And then there's the hot iron. So there seems to be a fire element going on here. Stone
02:46:10.300 and fire, of course, too. The Austvenirgrider is associated with the lava, the earthquake,
02:46:18.860 and just the crevasse. And so there's a lot of that going on here.
02:46:26.280 um he throws the hot bar in in the forge fused but into the hand of Odin's gladner so the the
02:46:35.820 one that makes Odin happy is of course his son so that Gunnar's swift speeder seized the friend
02:46:46.980 of freya with quick hand gulps the molten high raised draught of metal the friend of freya
02:46:57.140 that it's the like the kinsmen of odin these are all references of course to lord thor and
02:47:05.920 especially since uh the friend of freya um any that are working with freya and not trying to
02:47:15.200 sees her are is a huge uh like nexus point between um enemy and friend um so with quick
02:47:28.220 hand gulps the molten high raised draught of metal when the firebrand glowing flew with
02:47:36.600 madden fury from the giant's gripping fingers to the grim sire of through the so it's repeated
02:47:44.660 again that uh gerother who is the the giant he throws the the iron ingot at the sire of thru
02:47:57.860 there and that is of course lord thor's daughter the hall of the doughty of the dowdy trembled 0.99
02:48:07.540 when he dashed the massy forehead of the hill white
02:48:12.280 against the bottom of the house wall's ancient column.
02:48:18.280 Ullr's glorious step-sire, this of course being Lord Thor,
02:48:23.760 with the glowing bar of mischief,
02:48:26.920 struck with his whole strength downward
02:48:30.520 at the hill knave's mid-girdle.
02:48:34.340 the god with the gory hammer crushed utterly glaumir's lineage the hunter of the kindred
02:48:45.920 or hunter of the yotnar kindred the kindred of emir of the hearth dame was victorious
02:48:56.120 so the hunter of the kindred of the earth dame or the hearth dame excuse me and i think this is of
02:49:03.180 course in uh possibly in direct real essence uh um essence to uh the descendants of emir
02:49:12.940 specifically bergelmer and his uh consort the god gory hammer the god with the gory hammer
02:49:24.360 crushing the lineage of glaumir uh the plucker of the bowstring lacked not his people's valor
02:49:37.740 so again the elm string that was mentioned before and now the bowstring uh not just as an instrument
02:49:45.680 but really what it meaning is the elm harp or the you harp or the you know is is the bow
02:49:53.460 um the chariot god who swiftly wrought grief to the giants bench things so all of of the folk
02:50:04.940 there and in the hall and uh started the massive fight um he to whom hosts make offerings
02:50:15.280 thor is he who uh battle uh that the folk make offerings to especially like the army or the
02:50:26.540 warriors he hewed down the dope-like dwellers of the cloud abyss of elf home crushing them 0.82
02:50:37.220 with the fragment of Greether's rod, 0.99
02:50:40.980 the litter of hawks, 0.94
02:50:43.280 the race of Listi. 1.00
02:50:45.220 They could not harm 0.92
02:50:46.560 the help-strong queller 0.99
02:50:49.040 of Ella's stone folk.
02:50:55.160 This poet in particular,
02:50:58.420 he is,
02:51:00.680 it's Eiliver,
02:51:02.060 is really abstract
02:51:04.840 in his kennings and there are so many nods to stories that we don't have and then too there
02:51:14.820 is a deep connection he is making kennings of um the physical and uh kind of historical world
02:51:24.240 around him in relation to the gods so it's very very poignant of the time as well um but
02:51:32.940 extremely good uh it's just kind of hard to go through and read and i'm reading this now like
02:51:42.300 i haven't read this poem in so long so as i'm trying to kind of decipher it i may have some
02:51:50.020 some points uh off or i might not be emphasizing some of that but that's how the kennings kind of
02:51:57.520 work is as you're reading them you want to get to the point where you can kind of guide yourself
02:52:02.580 through and understand that it's not just word soup which it can become if you don't you know
02:52:10.880 um it's very easy to to to shift off and like what is what does this mean but oftentimes it's
02:52:19.680 mostly kennings and uh i know that a lot of folks use kennings in prayers to the gods um and in this
02:52:28.380 case his type of kenning work is one right after the other and often very very obscure to the point
02:52:46.780 this statue is awesome and i suppose it's as good of a time as any to post a cool statue
02:52:53.180 But it's just in the really cool wordplay of this description of Thor just raining down destruction on his foes. 1.00
02:53:05.180 This Thor is the champion laying waste to these Mjotnar. 1.00
02:53:09.060 It's really cool. 1.00
02:53:11.120 And I was very blessed.
02:53:12.460 I got to see this when I was on that AFA trip to Denmark with Steve and some others.
02:53:20.460 It's a really cool statue.
02:53:22.540 it's really neat to see in person and it just I think gives this kind of this kind of feel to it
02:53:29.020 he's got that one by the head he's about to ring his hammer on it uh thank god with gory hammer um
02:53:37.900 so yeah no I just think captures the feel of this poetry it's really uh neat and I think that
02:53:43.660 sometimes when people read when people read the lore in the same way that they would read a novel
02:53:51.100 um they read through it really quickly and i think that it's easy to gloss over or to lose
02:53:59.820 the beauty of some of the poetic description when you're consuming a lot so in a way it's
02:54:05.500 kind of cool to just read this one piece tonight um another thing i think is worth noting about it
02:54:13.180 We make a point that Snorri wants to preserve the authentic and the essential from the practice
02:54:25.040 of house and treatment. So the things that Snorri brings out here I think are worth us
02:54:33.000 taking special note of compared to other pieces of lore. This is like established things that
02:54:38.500 Snorri fields are essential for young Scalds to learn and to know and to
02:54:50.440 like view within themselves as material for them to write Scaldic prose about so
02:54:57.400 this is work so if Snorri is mentioning it in Gilfoginning but also in Scalds
02:55:03.740 got below i think that adds a special credence to the importance of the story and the spiritual
02:55:09.580 relevance of it so thank you for that um we've got one chunk done tonight it was a very long one
02:55:17.020 i think we had some really good questions i'd like to say for anybody uh ever all of my
02:55:23.660 loyal listeners to the victory never sleeps uh broadcast here
02:55:31.900 i am trying to do shorts to get greater exposure i mention all the time one of the biggest hurdles
02:55:42.140 we have to grow is so many of our folk just don't know we exist
02:55:47.500 When I do shorts, when shorts are done for VNS, our reach increases on all of our distribution
02:56:01.660 places dramatically, but it has been a challenge to get those done.
02:56:07.420 I'm doing those myself now, so if they're of lesser quality, please forgive me on that.
02:56:14.620 learning curve but i started doing those today and i'm going to continue to do them
02:56:20.380 what i need help with and i'm asking people internal and afa leadership but i'm also asking
02:56:25.580 you guys in the audience if something strikes you as particularly cool or meaningful or funny or
02:56:33.500 insightful if you could send to bnsbrimstone.org to nick to myself the time stamp when that was
02:56:43.740 and what's cool, I can try to use that to help me get those shorts out and have it.
02:56:50.040 So I would really appreciate that if you guys could do it.
02:56:56.120 Angela, you are awesome.
02:56:57.960 Your $50 is the last donation that we got on that.
02:57:03.160 So you are in fact… well, it's not.
02:57:06.080 It's not. 0.60
02:57:08.080 in Japan was 0.95
02:57:10.560 Japan
02:57:11.280 is kind of in the middle of nowhere
02:57:16.780 but we're going to call it Odenshoff District
02:57:18.960 but you're still way ahead
02:57:22.400 so you have won the day for
02:57:24.560 Praisehoff and we really appreciate your
02:57:26.520 donation on that so thank you
02:57:28.100 yeah thank you everybody
02:57:32.620 tonight I think we had a really good discussion
02:57:34.700 Spawn appreciates you as always
02:57:36.880 Nick, thank you. This weekend, Houseblood, we have got, so as I said earlier, go to your
02:57:50.960 Hoth. You got a Hoth local to you, and when I say local to you, I realize that may be
02:57:56.640 quite far for some. If you can, make the effort to go to your Hoth for Houseblood. You will
02:58:04.960 be grateful that you did and your folk will be strengthened by your presence there for you
02:58:12.800 i know it's a long way not everybody's able to i will be getting in my car early friday morning
02:58:18.720 and driving eight hours to go to the house blood at thorsthoff and when it is all over i will drive
02:58:25.120 eight hours home and i will be glad that i spent the weekend with my folk celebrating housework
02:58:31.120 so saturday at all of the hops house blood is happening it is happening kind of friday as well
02:58:38.560 if you want to show up at either uh york's off or thor's off but in addition and one of the things
02:58:46.000 i want to bring up here on saturday they're celebrating houseblood in new hampshire
02:58:52.400 they're celebrating houseblood at all of our hops they're celebrating houseblood in montana
02:58:57.680 and in New Brunswick.
02:59:02.040 They're celebrating another event in Tennessee
02:59:06.120 and another event in Utah.
02:59:10.320 And on Sunday, there's an event in Colorado as well.
02:59:16.040 So you've got a lot of options, a lot of places.
02:59:18.760 You can be celebrating this really special weekend.
02:59:21.820 So I would encourage you all to do that if you're able.
02:59:24.600 Spawn and I would love to see you at Thor's Hawk.
02:59:29.600 It's going to be fun. Spawn's going to do spooky beat people sticks things,
02:59:34.600 so that'll be awesome.
02:59:36.600 Eating each other with sticks.
02:59:39.600 So that will be fantastic.
02:59:41.600 I'm looking forward to seeing that, experiencing that.
02:59:45.600 Tuesday night, before I see you next, will be the actual moment of Equinox.
02:59:58.120 And yeah, fall is rapidly coming upon us here.
03:00:03.420 So celebrate, make a point of getting together with your AFA family, even if you can.
03:00:10.780 If for some reason you are tied down and you cannot go anywhere,
03:00:14.860 Get in front of your altar and make an offering and celebrate with you, your family, and the gods.
03:00:20.760 But celebrate. It's big. It's important.
03:00:24.520 Anyways, until I talk to you guys next time,
03:00:27.500 Hail the Iseer, Hail the Folk, and Hail the AFA.
03:00:30.580 And remember, victory never sleeps.
03:00:32.760 Blackwood.
03:01:02.760 Thank you.
03:01:32.760 Thank you.
03:02:02.760 Thank you.
03:02:32.760 Thank you.
03:03:02.760 Thank you.
03:03:32.760 Thank you.
