00:00:06.100 It's the beginning of March. It's time to go over the holidays, holy days, and days of remembrance of our folk.
00:00:12.620 And we start that off, it's coming up Monday, with the Alcetru Day of Remembrance for Gothi Orvir of Eeg,
00:00:19.480 who was an early 11th century Norse priest near Trondheim,
00:00:23.420 who preserved Alcetru worship during the forced Christianization of Norway,
00:00:27.360 When King Orof II learned of pagan gatherings, he sent a force that ambushed Orvir and his
00:00:33.720 community, leading to Orvir's death and the brutal suppression of the remaining worshippers.
00:00:39.820 His story is remembered as an example of devotion and leadership, protecting his people and
00:00:45.540 their faith even under threat of persecution.
00:00:48.640 We'll follow that up.
00:00:51.140 On the 20th of this month is the official day for Austra.
00:00:54.360 Of course, we'll observe it on the 21st, the Saturday, the third Saturday of the month.
00:00:59.700 But Austra is an Alcatru holy day, celebrating the arrival of spring and the renewal of life after winter.
00:01:07.300 It honors the dawn goddess Austra and marks the warming earth, the new growth, and fertility of the land,
00:01:14.640 symbolizing survival through winter and the return of vitality.
00:01:18.060 The celebration encourages gratitude to the gods and ancestors, and a shift from winter's
00:01:23.500 reflection into action, growth, and new beginnings.
00:01:28.180 And on the 26th of March, we celebrate the Day of Remembrance for Wengerich, who was
00:01:34.020 a Gothic leader in the 4th century serving under the chieftain Thanerich during a period
00:01:40.040 of conflict between traditional Germanic religion and a spread of Christianity.
00:01:45.200 He is remembered for burning down a group of Gothic Christians alive in a tent after
00:01:49.380 they refused to abandon their newfound faith and return to Alcetru, an act tied to the
00:01:56.520 broader religious struggles of the time.
00:01:59.680 His story is remembered in Alcetru traditions as an example of resistance during the era
00:02:04.920 when outside religions were spreading amongst the Gothic peoples.
00:02:09.600 And that is what we have for the month of March.
00:02:13.640 Hail Gotti Olvir.
00:02:16.040 Hail Austra.
