In this episode of the Astro Folk Assembly podcast, we discuss why we don't celebrate Sigurbloat on the full moon in April, and why we celebrate it on the solstices in July. We also talk about why we chose to celebrate it in July rather than on the equinox.

00:00:23.600so first there are a number of our holy days that are based on that are based on nature
00:00:34.880um you know the equinox happen when the equinox happens uh the the solstices happen when the
00:00:41.600solstices happen but there's other of our celebrations that aren't so tied to a natural
00:00:51.680cycle and sigurbloat was one of those it was celebrated in a particular time the attestation
00:00:58.880that we have is is during the viking age where um this is the time of year where stuff is thought
00:01:06.720enough that they could go and start mounting their uh their raids for raiding season and uh
00:01:14.800And that was a very specific to a certain geographical instance as opposed to to a larger, you know, a larger natural truth. But the truth of that was to celebrate a to have a celebration to celebrate victory to beseech the gods to bless them with victory, and to to instill victory amongst the folk by sharing in a in a communal context.
