00:33:17.620 So that will be one of the very first things that Speaker McCarthy-to-Bee will roll out as this select committee.

00:33:38.060 We did the China Task Force over the last couple of years.
00:33:42.000 It's rolled out a lot of good ideas, a lot of legislative proposals that we can fight for.
00:33:47.320 The Republican Study Committee, though, put together a very comprehensive bill to hold the CCP accountable.
00:33:53.740 And it includes provisions like the one that Tom Cotton and I introduced to sanction the United Front.
00:33:59.880 This is a organization that the Chinese Communist Party uses 10 times bigger than the U.S.'s State Department.
00:34:06.540 They use the United Front to go out and set up Confucius Institutes and friendship groups.
00:34:12.560 These police officers from China that are running around New York City are a part of the United Front.
00:34:18.260 So we have to sanction the United Front and their activities in the United States to stop that from happening further.
00:34:24.100 So our bill, the Republican Study Committee's bill, does a lot of other things, too, from further sanctions to boosting our military capacity with more innovation to tackle the national security front.
00:34:37.260 It's the most comprehensive bill that you'll find in Congress, and one of the first things that we're going to do when we get the majority back to roll it out as a major piece of legislation.
00:34:44.060 I know this from our deep contacts in China, that when you guys rolled out the commitment to America and said select committee, that people in Beijing started paying attention.
00:34:56.200 Just explain to our audience, what is it going outside the normal committee framework and doing a select committee?
00:35:02.840 Why is that so powerful?
00:35:04.600 And why is that a message to Beijing that you guys are not messing around?
00:35:07.880 Well, it tells Beijing and the rest of the world that this is our top priority, if not one of our top two or three priorities in the Republican majority.

00:35:19.520 So a select committee forces Democrats to make appointments to that committee.
00:35:24.420 Remember, it was three years ago that McCarthy and Pelosi had a deal to do a China task force.
00:35:29.680 And the day that Kevin McCarthy appointed me and Mike Gallagher and a few others to be a part of that committee, Pelosi said, the deal is off.
00:35:37.740 I'm not putting any Democrats on that committee.
00:35:39.480 So Republicans went ahead and did it anyway.

00:35:42.480 We rolled out our report.
00:35:44.280 But creating a select committee as an act of Congress means that this is a priority where there's never been this much of a priority before.
00:35:51.700 I mean, I remember, Steve, when I first got elected to Congress, the same time that you helped President Trump get elected in the election of 2016, I got to Congress and started talking about the China threat, started working with the new president on this issue.
00:36:03.840 Back then, they said we were kooky populists for focusing on the China threat.
00:36:08.260 And now today, it's a different Republican Party.
00:36:11.220 It's a new Republican Party where we are universally in lockstep in making this a top priority to hold China accountable, to hold them accountable for what they've done to wreck our economy, hold them accountable for COVID, hold them accountable for their military actions around the globe as well, their human rights abuses. 0.88

00:37:37.700 Steve, I laid out this point that back when Mitt Romney ran against Barack Obama, Mitt Romney received three to one the amount of corporate PAC donations, Wall Street donations to Obama.
00:37:50.340 When Trump ran against Biden, it flipped Biden received four to one the amount of campaign donations from Wall Street.
00:37:56.800 So we've divorced ourselves from those interests where the Republican Party used to be the party of corporate America.
00:38:04.220 Now that's clearly the Democrat Party.
00:38:06.380 So we're in a healthier place to start from.
00:38:08.960 That also means, Steve, that our voter base is is healthier and larger and working class voters like my dad, who used to call himself a Democrat, is no longer a Democrat.

00:38:21.180 Trump brought him to the Republican Party.
00:38:23.000 So these voters expect us.
00:38:24.820 They fully expect us to go after China in a way that the Republican Party didn't before because of those those corporate interests.

00:40:56.180 And I think that the the the people of the people of China understand this, those who are skeptical of the Chinese Communist Party regime and and the the the the ruling class in their country, they know this is a sign of weakness by putting him in charge for the rest of his life.
00:41:13.540 So what happens from there? We all know that he's going to try to build upon his legacy.
00:41:18.720 He's got a short period of time to do it.
00:41:20.540 But that that's what concerns me greatly about Joe Biden and the White House, that that that show of weakness, what we've already seen in other places around the world, our adversaries seizing on this moment.

00:49:54.320 It's, okay, we have to have our principles, and whatever ends up happening, we're just going to have to say, well, we can't do anything about it.
