00:11:37.440 cannot win an office in fairfax as a republican but you know you identified a couple of the key things

00:11:44.840 that that we've identified as well which is for example the precinct strategy is so important what

00:11:51.460 we've seen here is if you have strong precinct captains you can have an unbelievable grassroots

00:11:57.680 effort and we've done some of that in fairfax but we've got too many precinct captain positions empty

00:12:03.620 so we want to change that another thing that we've done because you talked about the catholic notion of

00:12:10.440 subsidiarity which is so important i started a group called catholics engaged for fairfax because we found

00:12:17.360 that so many people in the churches are not actually getting out and voting their values and one of the

00:12:24.080 things that we were able to do with that group was we had an incredible uh postcard writing campaign in

00:12:31.120 this last local election we sent out 19 000 handwritten postcards and we tested some different groups with

00:12:38.220 that and and one of the things that we found is with a target audience of likely conservatives catholics

00:12:46.720 but people who were not voting just with that touch point of a handwritten postcard we were able to

00:12:53.500 increase voter turnout by 50 percent so you know big part of our strategy going forward is going to be

00:13:00.920 how do we find and identify and connect with those voters who are unengaged because i think there are

00:13:07.200 lots of them here in fairfax county well uh i want to hold you through the break because i want to drill

00:13:13.960 down on some of these issues because as below so above ralph reed was on here the other day with

00:13:19.040 evangelicals and he's saying the same thing between evangelical christians and traditional catholics

00:13:23.800 he thinks there's a net eight million uh voters out there of people who are who are deeply religious

00:13:30.840 but are just not in the political process that if you had a touch point with them would actually get

00:13:36.060 out and vote it's not that they rejected they just live their life they're not part of it are you and

00:13:40.360 you found that you found a 15 increase in fairfax county just by doing simple outreach 50 percent

00:13:47.720 not 15 50 now to be fair steve that was a very particular slice right that was we experimented with

00:13:56.360 different groups that one was catholics who were likely conservatives who were not voting uh you know

00:14:04.220 we didn't get a 50 percent bump from every sector that we targeted so you know what this means this

00:14:09.640 was likely largely hispanics and you know this is really important fairfax county a lot of people

00:14:15.420 don't realize this but 30 percent of the people in fairfax county were not born in this country

00:14:22.100 and 40 percent of the households in fairfax county don't speak english as a first language what we are

00:14:30.180 finding is particularly among these sort of newer immigrants and you know these are largely legal

00:14:35.920 immigrants these are people who've come here legally um they share our values they are pro-family

00:22:08.400 earlier i think we can turn this around i think there are many many people in fairfax county that

00:22:13.940 share our conservative values but i think they're discouraged because they don't see republicans winning

00:23:53.340 we're not you're not taking the promotion we're gonna stay in richmond even at the time this is

00:23:58.060 the late 60s fairfax northern virginia was starting to become different than virginia right there it was

00:24:04.180 just the seeds of it but she specifically said and we were gonna go to catholic school up there

00:24:08.700 she just goes i just don't like the environment there's something going on here it's just not i don't

00:24:13.420 want my kids raised up there that was in the late 60s today it's just not democrats we started this

00:24:19.240 whole process a couple of years ago about the school boards we started covering people in fairfax

00:24:25.320 because what was happening so radical what has happened to fairfax county because this is just

00:24:29.780 not your typical democrats there's something so radical about the social agenda there that's shocking

00:24:40.840 the ten richest counties seven of them surround the imperial capital of washington dc and a really

00:24:45.780 greater washington but what is it that has made uh the the democrats up there and others so radical

00:24:52.720 when it comes to things like the basic traditional family ma'am i i think you've got two things going on

00:24:59.360 i think one is that fairfax i believe it's been targeted because it is so prominent it is in such an

00:25:06.080 important location and i think the democrats and the radical left use it as a model for what can then

00:25:12.260 happen in other places so you've seen extraordinary money pour in here from soros and from others but i

00:25:18.940 think the other is the fact that you have so many of the swamp elites live here right and so you know

00:25:26.280 that they 100 skew left um and and that's what's been driving it but again you know i think they've been

00:25:34.600 allowed to dominate but i don't think that they reflect what is really here in the heart of

00:25:40.120 fairfax county and you know i love the comment about what your mom said but but one of the things

00:25:45.760 that's interesting is that even though fairfax has gone firmly left i will say i think this is one of

00:25:51.500 the best places in the in the country to be a christian it is just unbelievable the vibrancy of

00:25:58.920 the churches both you know protestant evangelical and catholic um we've got 200 members in our group

00:26:13.120 fairfax and i go to several i've been to multiple churches here they are packed they are full they are

00:26:20.260 full of big families they are full of people they are full of every nationality um every ethnicity so

00:26:27.360 you know we they're here we just have to engage with them and mobilize them and and make the case
