00:00:29.780 But two other things jump out at me at this. You know, for years, Jim, you and I have covered
00:00:37.040 events where the Israelis and sometimes the United States have taken some pretty deep pokes at the
00:00:43.200 Natanz nuclear enrichment site, which is, of course, the heart and soul of the Iranian program.
00:00:50.240 They never, however, actually went to try to bomb it. And it is somewhat hardened and underground,
00:00:56.480 not deep underground, but underground. And we don't know right now whether they achieved their
00:01:02.480 main target here, which was to try to destroy, as Oren suggested before, the heart of the nuclear
00:01:10.180 program. We don't know if they've made any attempt to go after the other major facility
00:01:15.700 for the nuclear program, the Fordow enrichment site, which is deep underneath a mountain,
00:01:21.840 about a half mile under that mountain and probably beyond Israel's reach. And we don't know about
00:01:29.440 whether they have gone after all the rest of the nuclear infrastructure and missile infrastructure.
00:01:36.100 If they did, then it might be harder for Iran to respond the way the Iranians feel like they should,
00:01:44.940 because their own missile program has been crippled to some degree.
00:01:48.640 To me, by the way, one of the most striking things tonight was the fact that Secretary of State
00:01:55.260 and Acting National Security Advisor Marco Rubio has issued a statement just a few minutes ago.
00:02:02.300 There is one thing that is not written in this statement. He did not say that the U.S. supports Israel.
00:02:11.980 I think this is something that I cannot remember when a Secretary of State of the United States during wartime
00:02:24.600 between Israel and an adversary and its like arch enemy, like Iran, and Secretary of State of the United States
00:02:32.200 puts out the statement and does not say that the U.S. supports Israel.
00:02:36.600 And I think it says a lot about what the Trump administration thinks about this move.
00:02:44.360 I just want to reread that statement to everyone just so they know fully what you're talking about.
00:02:48.520 It is from Secretary Rubio. And obviously, there is a real question of how President Trump is going to respond to this,
00:02:53.500 because he clearly did not want this to happen. He said it publicly.
00:02:56.220 Rubio said, quote, Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran.
00:03:01.220 We are not involved in strikes against Iran. Our top priority is protecting American forces in the region.
00:03:06.440 Israel advised us that they believe this action was necessary for self-defense.
00:03:10.460 President Trump and the administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces
00:03:14.160 and remain in close contact with our regional partners.
00:03:16.840 Let me be clear. Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel.
00:03:20.860 I mean, you're completely accurate when you say there is no statement there saying the United States stands behind what Israel has done here.
00:03:27.580 I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal. I told them in the strongest of words to just do it.
00:03:32.760 But no matter how hard they tried, no matter how close they got, they just couldn't get it done.
00:03:36.580 I told them that it would be much worse than anything they knew, anticipated or were told,

00:03:45.220 And certain Iranian hardliners, he goes on to say, spoke bravely, but they didn't know what was about to happen.

00:03:55.060 And he goes on to say that even after this attack, that bigger attacks are coming, more brutal, in his words,
00:04:01.800 more brutal attacks, presumably from Israel, are coming and that Iran should make a deal before they happen.
00:04:06.940 Yes. And I think, again, I don't know why this was not mentioned, but I can guess that the reason is that the United States did not want this to happen.

00:04:25.520 Ahead of the Israeli strike, the U.S. government notified several of its allies in the region that an Israeli strike is going to happen.
00:04:35.980 And in that notification, it said, we do not, we are not going to take part in this operation whatsoever.
00:04:48.900 And President Trump's only goal is peace.
00:04:54.200 I think this tells you a lot because we saw the public statement by the Trump administration.
00:04:59.700 And I now told you about the private messages that the Trump administration gave.
00:05:03.820 And I don't think we can read it any other way, but see it as quite a statement by the Trump administration that it does not support this Israeli move.

00:05:21.400 What was it exactly that they had communicated to allies about the strike beyond saying that they want peace?
00:05:26.740 Something like, I think, between 30 minutes to an hour before the Israeli jets started launching their missiles,

00:05:44.460 and told them that Israel is going to conduct a strike in Iran today
00:05:51.140 and that the U.S. is not involved in this strike whatsoever
00:05:56.240 and that the only thing that President Trump wants is peace.
00:06:00.560 Those were the three messages that have been conveyed in private to several U.S. allies earlier today.
00:06:07.020 The weapons that are being used today have a degree of precision that no one ever dreamt of in a prior conflict.

00:06:22.740 but also struck key targets in Mosul and Kirkuk in the north and Basra in the south.

00:35:26.440 Well, Steve, what we're looking at here with this successful opening salvo, and it's been described as an opening salvo by the Israelis against Iran's military, this was far more than just the nuclear facilities.
00:35:38.500 This was also on Iran's command and control structure, particularly focused on their military leadership as well as the leadership of the nuclear program itself.
00:35:47.500 So in order to break an enemy's ability to respond or retaliate, one of the lessons that you learn from fourth generational warfare is the idea of degrading your enemy's ability to wage war.
00:36:03.820 Well, the chain of command cannot order a retaliation if you have taken out the chain of command, and that's what Israel appears.
00:36:10.260 And again, we're still sort of in the fog of war of all this, but it appears that that's what Israel has done, not only going after the leaders of the military, the leaders of the nuclear program, the leaders of the IRGC, that's the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps, that is subordinated to the Ayatollah himself.
00:36:25.500 Iran has two militaries. There's the standing army and then the IRGC, as well as the Quds Force, which is their external arm.
00:36:33.000 And thus far, all of these potential retaliatory drone strikes, and I understand that within the last hour or so, there was another attempt to launch drones from an Iran proxy group in northern Iraq against Israel.
00:36:45.640 All of these have largely been shot down. At the same time, Iran did not have the ability to deflect any of this incoming from the ground because their air defenses were taken out either by the strikes last year that Israel conducted in April, October,
00:37:01.740 and then also by these Mossad sleeper cells that had infiltrated and penetrated deep into the heart of Iran, deep into right next to where these were.

00:37:17.220 Hang on. Take a second. Take a second on the Mossad. Infiltration into their command and control, infiltration into their nuclear program, and we saw guys running away from the air defense batteries.

00:37:38.260 Well, Steve, I would say at this point it seems that it's all of the above, and a lot of this is still shaking out.

00:37:50.940 That's what people need to understand. So there's multiple types of drones that are being talked about here,
00:37:55.240 and sometimes we use the shorthand when we're just saying drones or one-way attack systems or first-person drones, FPVs.
00:38:01.640 You'll hear this type of terminology.
00:38:03.240 But the drones that were used, by and large, in these attacks last night are short-range drones,
00:38:10.300 many of which Israeli media is reporting were constructed or at least assembled at some point,
00:38:16.760 smuggled into Iran and then assembled within the borders, the confines of Iran itself.
00:38:21.540 And so I'm sure that we'll learn more about how this operation took place.
00:38:26.200 But very similar to what we saw Ukraine conduct in terms of their strategic strikes deep within Russia just about one week ago with Operation Spiderweb.
00:38:36.360 And so I remember coming on War Room when that happened and said, we are going to see more of this.
00:38:42.020 We're going to see more of these types of attacks.
00:38:44.500 And I warn that, obviously, the United States is very vulnerable to this type of attack as well
00:38:50.600 because it's one for which, under four years of the Biden administration, the Obama-slash-Biden administration,
00:38:57.220 the border was completely open.
00:38:59.280 And so for anyone, you've got the Chinese farmland right next to our Air Force bases.
00:39:03.660 You had these Chinese balloons that were flying over.
00:39:05.900 And, Steve, you and I talked about how they were conducting targeting of our Minuteman missile silos all across the northern tier of the United States.
00:39:14.540 So there's a lot of questions exactly how this attack took place, but also what the implications are for the United States as well.
00:39:22.820 Are we vulnerable to this type of attack from sleeper cells, from any of our adversaries or potential sabotage teams around the world?
00:39:32.460 And what kind of blowback or potential capabilities does this preserve for other nations who wish to do us harm?
00:39:40.520 That's a real question that I'm sure the administration and the national security team are going to be looking at right now.
00:39:45.080 But getting back to this particular operation, Rising Lion, I believe is the title for it, seems to be something that clearly was in the works for a very long time.

00:41:09.720 Now the Iranians and I'm reading reports from Axios and I see some stuff from Reuters as well, that the negotiations, this meeting that Whitcoff was supposedly holding with the Iranians on Sunday.

00:41:23.660 And President Trump himself said some of the leaders may not be able to return because of these strikes.
00:41:29.880 And so the question really is, did the U.S. authorize this to the U.S. greenlight this or was this something where and I said last night where Netanyahu and the Israelis did this in defiance of what President Trump had said?
00:41:42.640 And we saw these reports as well about President Trump urging Netanyahu to not conduct strikes such as this and allow Whitcoff to continue his negotiations, which President Trump, of course, campaigned for peace, campaigned for no new wars.
