Trump signs an executive order creating a secondary name for the Department of Defense, calling it the Department of War. What does this mean for the future of America s most lethal fighting force? And why is this a good thing?
00:00:39.600Every element of the military, we make the best by far.
00:00:42.640Again, tonight with Donald Trump's use of the American military
00:00:45.880to advance an authoritarian vision, sidestepping congressional oversight
00:00:49.920and putting US service members in the middle of his politics.
00:00:53.760Today, Donald Trump signed an executive order creating a secondary name
00:00:58.080for the Department of Defense, calling it the quote unquote Department of War.
00:01:03.560And official name change would require an act of Congress,
00:01:07.480which is why we won't be using that name on our show.
00:01:10.760Words matter, people, and the administration is telling us in no uncertain terms how it intends to wield the world's most lethal fighting force.
00:01:19.160Indeed, the Department of Defense was called the Department of War until an amendment to the National Security Act in 1949.
00:01:26.240The nation had just been through two world wars and tensions with Soviet Russia were escalating.
00:01:31.720The name Department of Defense made America's priorities very, very clear.
00:01:36.640Protecting individual liberties and democracy and not flippantly entering wars that put lives at risk.
00:01:42.720Trump actually did campaign on no new wars, but today's order sends a very different message.
00:01:48.640Donald Trump sees the American military as a means to centralize power until we are one nation under Trump.
00:01:56.120In the midst of all the other chaos and drama and terror, I think this is the most important story in America and maybe in the world.
00:02:03.360Trump has hijacked the levers of power around our military period.
00:02:06.920There is no transparency. There is no accountability.
00:02:09.360Congress has been totally steamrolled.
00:02:11.240And now he can effectively do whatever he wants with the military that he's now calling the Department of War, ranging from striking on Iran to hitting drug dealers in Venezuela to in 2019, sending the Navy SEALs into North Korea to sending the National Guard into L.A. and now Chicago.
00:03:02.840He wants to rebrand it the Department of War for what purpose?
00:03:06.440I think the rebranding is just speaking to the macho factor that you were talking about earlier in the show that that hyper masculinity has always been so linked and a part of Trumpism that it's not shocking to me that the same person, Pete Hegseth, who went before the Senate and touted as almost a true credential his desire to make the military lethal and feared again.
00:03:28.400And that was his central argument for being the head of the Pentagon, despite all of the allegations against him of drinking and of sexual misconduct and that he didn't know how to manage funds or large bureaucracies.
00:03:40.600All of those were really tangible things.
00:03:42.660And yet his credential was, I want to be lethal.
00:03:44.960And that masculinity has always been enough.
00:03:47.420And a really important point to answer your second part of your question.
00:03:49.880He's making Americans scared of our military.
00:03:52.060He's making the world scared of our military, but he's also making Americans scared of our military, which is a very dangerous place to be.
00:03:58.920There is the old saying, send the country first, then send the troops.
00:04:01.760He continues to send the troops without popular support.
00:05:10.420And I think those vaccines should be used.
00:05:13.400Otherwise, some people are going to catch it and they endanger other people.
00:05:17.160And when you don't have controversy at all, I think people should take it.
00:05:22.780So, you know, not only are we seeing, you know, some of these high profile military actions, you know, the 2019 strike, the New York Times reported today, the Venezuelan strike that do raise serious questions.
00:05:32.920And that, you know, Pete Hegseth is somehow the one overseeing.
00:05:36.140But also, we're now learning that the senators who can put guardrails on this, who can reveal information about what's going wrong to the public, are being shut out.
00:05:44.160But I also think you're watching some of those senators who are willing to be critical, whether it's Tom Tillis or Joni Ernst, who at one point waffled on Hegseth and then ultimately was herself pushed back into line.
00:05:53.640They are choosing now to leave the Senate, not run for reelection, because the writing is on the wall that you're either with them or you're against them.
00:06:01.320And if you're against them, it's not going to last long anyway.
00:06:03.860And I think that's the deeper, more long lasting impact here of what what Trumpism will do even after Trump is gone, which is that the party is entirely remade in his image now in the House, certainly in the Senate now after the 2026 cycle.
00:07:30.540You have to get it done today because we are burning daylight and seize the institutions.
00:07:37.800Now, what do we say here about, you know, you've got the courts, obviously the Supreme Court and the legal system, quite important.
00:07:43.560But the three most powerful institutions in the imperial capital, as I say over and over again, are the CIA, the Federal Reserve and CENCOM.
00:07:52.440And you have President Trump and the MAGA movement in process of at least seizing two of those.
00:08:01.340Pete Hexeth and the pivot to hemispheric defense and Politico's got a pretty good story I've put up on Getter about the new defense strategy.
00:08:13.220Every year you put up an update on that.
00:08:15.960And they kind of misinterpret it because it's the pivot to hemispheric defense.
00:08:20.440And maybe in the hemispheric defense strategy, we haven't totally fulfilled out the three island chains, which our forefathers back in the 19th century understood was absolutely essential to manifest destiny because we are a Pacific power.
00:08:45.000But that talks about the hemispheric defense and they're all pulling their hair out.
00:08:48.200Oh, my God. Trump's, you know, hemispheric defense. Hemispheric defense is number one.
00:08:52.140Upon that we can pivot everything. And what Pete Hexeth and the team are doing are looking at from the Panama Canal to Greenland to the Arctic.
00:09:00.940And now, you know, with Chloe Pascal, the Western Pacific, the three island chains, the hemispheric defense of the United States.
00:09:09.820And of course, Latin America is very big in that. Maduro.
00:09:12.700And we're not an advocate of regime change. However, the behavior is going to have to change down there, particularly their involvement with the, wait for it, Chinese Communist Party.
00:09:22.940Because, you know, if you look at it, the Persians, Venezuela and the Russians are providing 100 percent of the energy use of our greatest and existential threat,
00:09:34.700which is the Chinese Communist Party. Now, Politico misinterprets and says, hey, back in Trump's first term, you know, they pivoted out of the global war on terror to China, a great power struggle.
00:09:47.220I was instrumental in the writing of that and the redirection of that. And we haven't changed the Chinese Communist Party.
00:09:54.020But you have to have the hemispheric defense first. And you have to clear out the Chinese Communist Party from the Caribbean, where they've made a lake for the PLA, right?
00:10:04.880And the Russian Navy. And you have to clear out the cartels, their business partners. And that's all happening.
00:10:11.700That is in President Trump is seizing the institution of the Pentagon.
00:10:15.820And yes, we're federalizing National Guard. And you've made I had dinner last night.
00:10:22.300I'm not dinner. I got there afterwards of people who are not Trump fans who are not Trump fans over in Georgetown.
00:10:29.040And let's say this. They're big league, not Trump fans to a person.
00:10:34.500They said the city has been totally changed. Georgetown has been totally changed since the troops came in.
00:10:41.880They were singing President Trump's high hosannas. Now, none of those people would go public with that.
00:10:47.860But when you're sitting there talking to them, they're saying they can finally walk back around Georgetown at night.
00:10:53.020It's completely changed. You know, women are not afraid to go out at night.
00:10:56.480They feel like they're at the stores. They can start wearing their watches and their jewelry, which they could not do.
00:11:01.180That's what President Trump is doing by taking control of these insurrectionist sanctuary cities.
00:11:07.500And guess what? We had Mike Rogers on yesterday. I thought he made a very compelling case for Detroit.
00:11:13.060President Trump is going to Chicago. He's going to take it to New Orleans and eventually he's going to go to New York.
00:11:19.320I think you wait to New York until my mom, Donnie wins, which he's going to win.
00:11:23.600And I think he could win big. And when the red-green axis, when the Marxist, he's not a socialist.
00:11:31.360He's not a populist. It's not about affordability. He is a Marxist and and jihadist.
00:11:38.940His mother's been taking money from Qatar forever. That's how they financed the whole deal.
00:11:42.480He's a happier, happy, clappy Obama. And he's going to be like Sadiq Khan.
00:11:48.080The Daily Mail and the Daily Telegraphs, I think their lead story is the Daily Telegraph's lead story.
00:11:53.660The only story in England that was bigger when it came up was throwing this, the deputy prime minister out for some tax violation.
00:12:02.260But when I gave the speech at National Conservative Conference the other day and said, hey, civil war is coming to England.
00:12:07.420And I gave GB News about a 45 minute interview yesterday. I think it'll be up starting over the weekend.
00:12:13.900You can see it happening with the putting up of the of the St. George flags and putting up the Union Jacks at night.
00:12:19.940Thousands of these and then taken down by the authorities. Something is going on.
00:12:24.500Nigel Farage just gave an amazing speech at their conference.
00:12:29.140Actually, Raheem's over there. I try to track him down and Grace and Mo are in Korea.
00:12:33.260And they've done a great job with Mina Kim at the Korean conference.
00:12:37.400I'm really proud of the war room throughout the world.
00:12:41.100And of course, Natalie's over in Asia, too, doing some reporting.
00:12:43.840So we're hitting on all cylinders this morning.
00:12:46.600But the key thing to keep in mind is the is what's happening.
00:12:50.740So we told you the convergence of these crises.
00:12:53.380Right. The geopolitical, the beginning of the Third World War, the kinetic part.
00:12:57.540You can't deny that. There's what, one point seven million casualties in one point seven million casualties already by the Ukrainians in Ukraine.
00:13:07.280There are there are over a million Russian casualties, two point seven million overall.
00:13:14.100You add in Gaza and the Middle East, Persia, what happened there, Yemen.
00:13:18.840You add it all up. It's far higher, far higher.
00:13:22.840Then from 1939, from September 1st, the invasion of Poland to the beginning of Operation Barbarossa in June of 1941.
00:14:05.020When Elon argued for Lutnick and we argued for Scott Besant because Scott Besant's a safe pair of hands and the capital markets feel very calm that Scott deals with him straight, gives him proper information.
00:14:15.100He's got the most radical article I have ever read from any Secretary of the Treasury in the Wall Street Journal.
00:14:22.740And now it's a 27-page report on the Journal of International Economy.
00:14:26.460I'm going to get the team to put it out right after the show.
00:14:29.520The Wall Street Journal will put out and we're going to talk about it in the second hour.
00:14:32.440And Scott, we're trying to get Scott to join us on Monday.
00:14:36.180Basically, you talk about deconstructing the administrative state.
00:14:38.840This is a deconstruction of the Federal Reserve.
00:22:50.540Right now, the polling shows 57% of Jewish kids under 30 are going to vote for him.
00:22:56.280And I think a third of his staff, his inner circle, are young Jewish professionals, media, political operatives, tech, very little government experience.
00:23:06.120The progressive left, and this comes from the school systems in New York City.
00:23:10.740First off, Qatar, Qatar totally runs the New York public school system.
00:23:15.280And Qatar is the railhead for the financing of the Muslim Brotherhood, right?
00:23:20.660You see Hamas, Hamas is just a, they're a local franchisee of the Muslim Brotherhood in Gaza.
00:23:27.620Qatar, which everybody's rubbing up on them over there.
00:24:44.340As I told you after the first 100 days, it's the next 200, all these crises converge that are going to define MAGA,
00:24:55.300President Trump's presidency and going forward, and also the country.
00:24:58.940And you're seeing it happen right now.
00:25:00.400And this September, you're seeing it all.
00:25:01.840Look at Bobby Kennedy, Thursday, a magnificent performance as he stood in the breach and took incoming for three hours and called these folks out.
00:25:15.980The people in the White House around President Trump thought it was a good thing to have 50 demons around the table around President Trump,
00:25:25.720including Zuckerberg and Bill Gates and Google.
00:25:30.480And what are you trying to do with Google?
00:25:32.620And people didn't brief the president because the president said, hey, you had a good day in court.
00:25:36.940That was not a good day, Mr. President.
00:25:57.820It's already destroyed because it was the central banks, the financial community, the city of London, and the corporations that, hey, we need more people.
00:28:31.180He's our wise man, a former CIA, Pentagon, and White House advisor
00:28:34.700with an unmatched grasp of geopolitics and capital markets.
00:28:38.300Jim predicted Trump's Electoral College victory exactly 312 to 226, down to the actual number itself.
00:28:47.480Now he's issuing a dire warning about April 11th, a moment that could define Trump's presidency in your financial future.
00:28:55.220His latest book, Money GPT, exposes how AI is setting the stage for financial chaos, bank runs at lightning speeds, algorithm-driven crashes, and even threats to national security.
00:29:07.260Right now, war room members get a free copy of Money GPT when they sign up for Strategic Intelligence.
00:29:14.020This is Jim's flagship financial newsletter, Strategic Intelligence.
00:29:43.060It says that you can't export American-made chips to China or other adversarial countries if there is a backlog or demand for those chips in the United States first.
00:29:56.580There's nothing that's more America First than making sure that we dominate the race to AI and the technologies of the future rather than helping our biggest enemy dominate us.
00:30:10.460It also says that you can't, if you do export chips, if Intel or these big chip makers export chips to China,
00:30:18.220they have to guarantee that those chips won't be used against America for economic purposes, against American industries, or even for other military and national security reasons, too.
00:30:30.100So I don't know how anybody could be against this.
00:30:32.800I mean, frankly, it's in the bill right now.
00:30:36.800And when we pass, when we have the NDAA on the floor next week, I don't know if there will be an effort to strip this out of the bill.
00:30:45.600But I hope my colleagues on both sides of the aisle will support it because there's nothing more America First than making sure that our chips don't go to our enemies to use against us.
00:31:50.360Like you heard in that clip, there just aren't enough chips out there right now.
00:31:54.620This has been the story for a few years.
00:31:58.220U.S. companies that are trying to be leaders in AI for our economy, for our military, are desperate to get as many of these chips as they can.
00:32:06.680And then you have companies, and the worst actor here is really NVIDIA.
00:32:56.480OK, so the Secretary of Commerce is sitting there on TV saying, hey, hang on, you know, Orrin Cass and Bannon and all these guys are all here that we're not selling the good stuff.
00:33:09.200We're selling them these are second or third tier chips.
00:33:12.160And so they're not getting the good stuff.
00:33:57.500The fact that they're saying, well, no, don't make us sell the chips to the U.S. first is because they know that, in fact, the U.S. companies would buy the chips.
00:34:05.400And so it just doesn't make any sense.
00:34:07.060Everybody around that table, all the tech bros, the broligarchs, all of them, Silicon Valley.
00:34:12.060The reason this exists, the reason this exists is the lords of easy money on Wall Street and Silicon Valley and the corporatists that sold us out.
00:34:25.600China was a backward agrarian, a third world agrarian country.
00:34:29.340It's been built by American capital, American technology.
00:34:32.140If we don't want to fight them and Oren Kass and Steve Bannon are non-interventionists, it doesn't mean we're non-confrontationist.
00:35:22.400There's no bank financing, capital markets, venture capital, none of it.
00:35:28.960In six months, Lao Baixing will be turfing these guys.
00:35:32.680Oh, by the way, you cut off the oil from the Persians because it's supposed to be cut off anyway.
00:35:37.000You cut off the oil from the Venezuelans, so it's supposed to be cut off anyway.
00:35:40.660And you sanction the oil coming out of Russia like we did with India.
00:35:43.840You do those steps, they're not going to be flexing because they're going to be broke and their people are going to overthrow them.
00:35:50.420Orrin Cass, isn't our answer here, and I love banks, and we've got to put that in there for today.
00:35:56.160But the answer is we have to have a national conversation.
00:35:59.220We're either going to let American corporatists and lords of easy money on Wall Street continue to finance them because they're in business with them.
00:36:06.760Why do you think NVIDIA is in the way?
00:36:08.400They're sitting there talking about chips and they're backdooring us all the time.
00:36:12.020Why are we even having these conversations?
00:36:42.120If they're living off foreign students, I don't care.
00:36:45.500This is about American and American students or in Cass.
00:36:48.620Are you with me on hard decoupling or is that too radical an idea, sir?
00:36:53.720We've actually written the paper called A Hard Break With China.
00:36:56.860I've even given up using the word decoupling because I think people think it sounds soft and we'll work it out and sort of like Gwyneth Paltrow's term, the conscious decoupling.
00:37:22.880To still be saying that in 2025, I mean NVIDIA is trying to say like you have to let us sell chips there so we can establish American leadership in China.
00:37:30.660It's like Charlie Brown with Lucy in the football.
00:37:33.880I don't know how you can seriously think at this point you're going to build a constructive, profitable relationship with China in the long run.
00:37:41.540It's just a short-term cash grab that completely sells out the actual American interests in the long term.
00:37:48.960Oren, help me out here because you're, like I said, a steady pair of hands.
00:37:51.940We know that technology is a driver of the American economy.
00:37:55.080But when you have those demons, on the day that Bobby Kennedy testifies and it's a star chamber, right, it's an inquisition.
00:38:01.680And they all come out and they're trying to fire him.
00:38:03.500Look, the fight for Bobby Kennedy is a long way from over.
00:38:06.260And if we're going to keep the Maha, make America healthy again and make America great again coalition that gave us the huge victory in November of 2024, Bobby Kennedy has got to be saved.
00:38:15.800How do you have – who at the White House tells President Trump, let's have a dinner that night with the very people that had the technology that suppressed all the voices that were coming out against the vaccine mandates.
00:38:30.780You've got Zuckerberg, who is a criminal, right?
00:38:35.060And now we're in federal court with him and the FTC trying to break up Facebook.
00:38:39.740I don't know if it's appropriate to put him next to the president of the United States at a dinner.
00:38:43.200And also Gates, who's the worst guy in the world on vaccines.
00:38:47.840Am I hammering the tech broligarchs too hard or should – we've got to have a – the MAGA movement has to have a – we have to get this sorted now.
00:38:58.640They're not – they don't bring any votes.
00:39:00.940The Maha movement brings millions of votes, right?
00:39:20.560Well, President Trump's not eligible to run for president in 2028.
00:39:23.760But whoever is running, I think it's certainly important to have a much more sort of level playing field in our media than we've seen in the past.
00:39:32.960I think the one nice thing that we've seen is that, you know, what you're really seeing from these tech bros is I don't think they actually care about the politics very much at all.
00:39:41.200Well, they'll just respond to incentives, and when all the incentives were to cozy up to the, you know, progressive left-wing woke folks, they, you know, all stampeded that direction.
00:39:54.640I think it's actually a good thing that they're seeing, oh, no, that's right.
00:39:57.360You know, sometimes one side is going to be in power.
00:39:59.780Sometimes the other side is going to be in power.
00:40:02.400We've got to be in a position to, you know, maybe get along with both.
00:40:07.120What's important, what we need to see more from the Trump administration is the clear conditions or demands.
00:40:14.000Okay, what are the things you have to do if you do want to be at the table in the White House?
00:40:18.620And I think, you know, and we see this with a lot of big business right now generally, and as we were just talking about with something like NVIDIA is probably the worst example of it,
00:40:27.820there are still some folks in the White House who have the attitude that, like, you know, well, whatever corporations want, we should just do.
00:40:33.780And almost every time they go down that path, it ends up looking bad for the White House, it looks bad for the president, and then ultimately it's bad for the country.
00:40:42.640So we need to make sure the people advising the president, we need to make sure the president are focused not on thinking, well, you know, this person's a CEO, he's very rich, I'm sure he makes sense and is thinking about what's good for America,
00:40:55.560and realize that that's just not their priority. It's the president's job, it's the administration's job to be focused on what's good for the country,
00:41:03.580and then make sure that American corporations are operating within that.
00:41:10.460Warren Posse, Warren Cass is one of the smartest guys we have, and one of the smartest guys on populist nationalist economics,
00:41:16.400but I have not read him in yet to Trump 28, and I promise I will do that this weekend.
00:41:21.120Warren Cass, you're one of my favorite people. Where do people, what's your coordinates, where do people go to support Jim Banks in this effort?
00:41:29.200Where do they go? Your social media, the site, the magazine, all of it. Your book, your great new book, where do they go?
00:41:35.460Well, I'm on X at underscore Cass. American Compass is the organization. Our magazine is Commonplace. You can subscribe at commonplace.org.
00:41:45.740And for a lot of the background on these big ideas we're working on, we just put out this book called The New Conservatives that talks about what, you know,
00:41:53.820not just President Trump, but now Secretary of State Rubio and Vice President Vance and folks like Senator Banks,
00:41:58.860all of the folks who I think are building the future of the conservative movement, tries to kind of lay out a lot of the ideas that are behind it.
00:42:16.340How do you understand this? One of the things I'm very proud of, because remember, Joe Allen is going to be – I'm kind of obsessed with this, aren't I?
