00:22:27.760 keynote uh speech or not keynote but important uh late night speech um you know midway through the

00:22:34.080 convention in houston and this is where he made his really famous statement pat buchanan did said

00:22:39.780 and i'm paraphrasing all the texts in front of me we're living in we're going through a political

00:22:44.960 and uh religious and cultural war and what everybody picked up on was the culture war because they thought

00:22:52.180 he was talking about gay rights abortion and he was but he was also talking about a worldview

00:22:58.920 um what we would think of as a secular liberalism that has completely taken over the culture dominated

00:23:05.880 and he said the guy the democrats have put up bill clinton he's the face of that and whatever you

00:23:11.020 think of george bush he's not that he comes out of an older style older idea of what america is

00:23:16.860 and buchanan saw this 92 right it's well over 30 years ago 34 years ago he sees that some big thing

00:26:53.460 influential conservative intellectual in america they weren't saying that back in 92

00:26:59.580 no he was the uh what about is buckley's is what people missed is buckley's we got about a minute

00:27:18.020 catholicism was to the core of his being was that one of the reasons he threw in with buchanan on this

00:27:23.380 cultural on the on the cultural fight 100 absolutely uh catholicism catholic values church

00:27:32.280 values family values the church buckley said uh when people would push back they'd say well you

00:27:38.040 a conservative or you a catholic he'd say catholic first conservative second of course he didn't see
