Dennis Prager joins host Stephen K. Bannon in the War Room to discuss his new book, Deuteronomy: The Most Influential Book Ever Written, and why it's the most influential book in the history of the world.
00:00:30.000What they're doing is blowing people off.
00:00:34.760If you continue to look the other way and shut up, then the oppressors, the authoritarians, get total control and total power.
00:00:42.740Because this is just like in Arizona. This is just like in Georgia.
00:00:45.720It's another element that backs them into a quarter and shows their lies and misrepresentations.
00:00:50.820This is why this audience is going to have to get engaged. As we've told you, this is the fight.
00:00:55.000All this nonsense, all this spin, they can't handle the truth.
00:00:58.560War Room. Battleground. Here's your host, Stephen K. Bannon.
00:01:02.740The only way to become a good person or to make a better society is by studying goodness.
00:01:12.740Many people think all you need to do good or be good is to have good intentions.
00:01:17.580But you can no more be good without studying how to be good than you can play piano without studying how to play piano or practice medicine without studying medicine.
00:01:28.300There's a word for the study of goodness and how to make a good world. Wisdom.
00:01:33.200Unfortunately, however, for much of the last century, few schools and even few parents have taught wisdom.
00:01:45.600Most of the wisdom of Western civilization, the civilization that has been the most successful in history in making good societies, comes from the Bible.
00:01:54.740That's why the Bible is the most influential book ever written.
00:01:59.300So, I'll share with you some of the wisdom from just one book of the Bible, the fifth Deuteronomy.
00:02:06.300Deuteronomy 1. Do not show partiality in judgment, chapter 1, verse 17.
00:02:14.560A compassionate society is built on justice, not compassion.
00:02:19.420That might sound counterintuitive, but while we should be compassionate in our private lives, the state must be preoccupied with justice.
00:02:29.540That is the reason for this law. Judges are forbidden not only to show favor to the rich, but also to the poor.
00:02:36.880The purpose of a judge is to dispense justice.
00:45:09.900And it's true when you're in your 70s, as I just turned.
00:45:14.620And I have decided to devote these past 10 years to a Bible commentary, because I don't think that there is any other way out than people taking the seminal work of history seriously.
00:45:28.180The problem is you can't pick up the Bible and just read it and know what's going on, especially the foundational first five books.
00:46:12.600It's for people to start to understand what we need to take seriously, God and the Bible.
00:46:18.400By the way, God alone without the Bible is, in my opinion, useless.
00:46:22.720If God didn't reveal his will, at least in the Ten Commandments, then what God do you believe in?
00:46:29.400And I do argue, and I make this point in the commentary, when people say they believe in God, you know nothing about the God they believe in, and you know nothing about them.
00:46:53.280And atheists use that argument all the time against those of us who speak about the centrality of God to ethics.
00:46:59.860Oh, there were Nazis who believed in God.
00:47:02.300Yeah, they used the term, but they didn't believe in the God of this book.
00:47:09.720What, I want to walk people through how they get access to all your writings and everything you're working on.
00:47:16.740You've got PragerU, you've got your radio show, you do commentary, you write articles, you've got this, you've got Deuteronomy, and are you going to, is this going to end your Bible commentary, or are you planning to go forward?
00:47:29.780It's the fifth volume of the first five volumes, but I didn't do them in order, so I still have Numbers and Leviticus to go.
00:47:37.900And I, it's a big, it's a big project.
00:47:43.820I'm in the middle of Numbers, and then with Leviticus.
00:47:46.280I've already written 20,000 words on one verse in Leviticus, that man shall not lie with a man as he lies with a woman.
00:47:56.540And I, you've already written 20,000, 20,000 words on one, on just one verse of Leviticus?
00:48:03.780Because it takes that long to explain what the Bible intended here.
00:48:12.500It has nothing to do with hatred of the gay, it has nothing to do with bigotry, but what was the attempt?
00:48:20.920And I did, obviously, a lot of research, and so that's how I got the 20,000 words.
00:48:25.240And by the way, just for your listeners, I do write interestingly.
00:48:31.160I work most hard on making it terse, concise, and interesting.
00:48:38.780Anyway, you can access any of my books through Amazon, obviously.
