00:13:53.500 did the KMT get to be the pro-CCP party it's history and roots are that that's the nationalist army

00:14:00.860 under Chiang Kai-shek that actually withdrew uh from China and took over uh and came to uh at that time

00:14:06.940 I guess Formosa which became Taiwan how are we in a situation that this vote this week DPP which is

00:14:15.180 a pretty liberal or progressive party about its domestic policies how are they the anti-CCP

00:14:21.340 party and how's the nationalist party the pro-CCP party well the nationalist two points with respect

00:14:28.060 to the KMT uh party first you're exactly right that they were fiercely anti-communist as it was

00:14:34.940 Chiang Kai-shek's uh party when he fled to uh Formosa to Taiwan in 1949 uh when the communists won

00:14:44.540 uh uh the mainland uh but the first point is that uh there's still an element in the KMT that sees uh

00:14:54.060 uh and desires uh to have um uh control uh if you will over uh the mainland there's still a tie uh that's

00:15:04.300 present there and Steve you need to keep in mind of course as the audience does that the PRC never

00:15:10.380 controlled Taiwan right so the any talk of unification that Xi launches is absolutely

00:15:16.860 illegitimate PRC never controlled uh Taiwan whatsoever the second part well he uses the phrase hang on

00:15:30.300 they're there for reunification there's no reunification since it's never been unified at

00:16:26.140 ways that they were interfering in the election through cyber uh through infiltration through economic

00:16:33.500 pressures uh on these parties and then also through misinformation um and we should also include in that

00:16:40.780 deep fakes right there's a way that artificial intelligence and deep fakes might be added to that as well

00:16:46.700 so uh the PRC definitely favors the KMT uh and uh its uh election now the DPP on the other side of that

00:16:56.460 coin of course is the DPP have been far more independent right to seek um if not fully proclaiming

00:17:04.460 independence working to maintain uh Taiwan as a de facto as it is a de facto independent state uh and so from
