00:02:57.280 vibrant democracy in that region i mean this year more than 19.5 million taiwanese people have registered

00:03:05.660 to vote and in the last taiwanese um u.s uh presidential election the turnout is 75 compared

00:03:13.740 with our u.s election in 2020 turnout only at 66 percent so that's why the ccp has been you know doing

00:05:18.860 with the communist china so that's why uh you know taiwan's economy is wholly dependent on the ccp so

00:06:07.180 products and a couple of years ago we know that the ccp banned the taiwanese pineapple and other food and

00:06:15.260 agricultural product but they're only targeting the counties and uh businesses that are pro the dpp

00:06:22.780 dpp so for example if you are uh you know a county within taiwan that supports the dpp or have been

00:06:31.660 showing strong support uh for for the dpp then any products agricultural products coming from this

00:06:39.260 county will be banned or face uh terrorists high tariffs uh in beijing and but if you are pro ccp

00:06:46.860 then from that you know any agricultural product from that region will you know what will not have

00:06:53.740 to face the punitive trade policies and that's a message that beijing is trying to send to the

00:06:59.740 taiwanese voters that uh if you are friendlier to beijing then you will have economic prosperity if you

00:08:49.340 uh the the this act was introduced by congress in 1938 to fight nazi germans the propaganda and

00:08:57.100 influence paddling on the u.s soil but very few few people actually you know uh research and did very deep

00:09:04.540 research into the filing and a lot of your investigative reporting exposed how the ccp has infiltrated

00:09:13.500 in the u.s politics in business and they have not been held accountable for the far violation for

00:09:21.340 for example i remember you did an excellent investigative reporting showing that the mainstream media in this

00:09:27.980 country ranging from the new york times and cnn and the wall street journal and msnbc these people they

00:09:35.980 are they're sending their uh editors and reporters are going to china all being paid by the ccp and that's

00:09:44.380 exactly what the ccp is doing to the taiwanese local politicians in order to win the legislative

00:09:51.500 race the ccp has recently paid up to 600 local politicians from taiwan to visit china and uh of

00:10:01.260 course you know nothing is provided for free you know they want something in return which is they're

00:10:07.180 you know being opinion leader they want this uh beijing want these local politicians to influence their

00:10:13.900 local uh you know voters to vote for the pro-beijing parties and another example is that there's a

00:10:21.340 a legislative candidate her name is ma zhiwei this woman has been found of taking tens of thousands

00:10:29.660 of dollars uh from beijing and even given important intel to the ccp about this election so this person

00:10:37.980 has has been detained by the taiwanese government and so these are some things that we already know from

00:10:44.620 the media but i'm sure um the depth and the breadth of the ccp's unrestricted um infiltration in the

00:10:52.700 taiwanese uh local politics is probably beyond measure and last question before i uh i let you go

00:11:48.060 in their 20s and these people uh they have been indoctrinated and brainwashed by the ccp's

00:11:54.300 disinformation campaign on tiktok and it's just like in this country so many young people have been you

00:12:01.100 know brainwashed or influenced by the anti-semitism spread by the tiktok users and also the leading

00:12:10.780 uh the presidential candidate koen jay from the tpp he's very pro-beijing and he wants reunification

00:12:30.220 platform has been instrumental uh to the ccp's disinformation campaign so i worry that things are

00:14:49.100 explain to to the audience why you think that taiwan matters to the united states but from an america

00:15:11.100 uh for four major reasons the first of which is that uh taiwan is the world's leading chip producer

00:15:20.540 so our economy is heavily dependent of course on those chips uh and um if anything were to interfere

00:15:28.140 with it with chip production of course which would happen if uh china invades uh taiwan uh that would

00:15:36.380 have a very significant impact uh on a u.s economy which is already stressed due to the so many other

00:15:44.140 problems that it has with respect to inflation or illegal immigration and uh the stresses that are

00:15:50.220 being introduced uh by the biden administration the second reason why it matters is because taiwan

00:15:56.940 occupies critical geo-strategic real estate uh in conjunction with japan and the philippines taiwan

00:16:04.540 occupies space that serves to bottle up uh the people's republic of china's aggression its ability

00:16:11.340 to access uh the pacific ocean uh so having taiwan uh as a partner of the united states is absolutely

00:16:20.620 essential third reason why it matters is because taiwan can also be used as a base uh by uh the united

00:16:29.340 states intelligence communities of course in the military uh and other actors to project power

00:16:35.660 against uh against the people's republic of china and then fourthly it matters because in the realm of

00:16:42.700 political warfare you're very attuned to this natalie of course that taiwan is significant for two major

00:16:49.980 reasons one of which it shows what china should be that taiwan is a vibrant democracy with a flourishing

00:16:57.580 economy uh and um that has a long tradition of course now of of uh elections um and competitive

00:17:05.980 political parties democratic institutions all of that shows uh that china could have those elements as

00:17:14.140 well if the communists had not come to power in 1949 and taken china in a very dark uh and uh a terrible

00:17:23.580 uh direction uh direction so it matters firstly in political warfare because it shows what uh china

00:17:30.700 might be could have been and at some point might be again if the ccp were over overthrown the second

00:17:38.860 reason why taiwan matters is because the taiwanese have great knowledge about what's happening within

00:17:45.180 um uh within china uh and so uh the taiwanese can offer great help and assistance in

00:17:53.180 identifying themes uh cleavages uh in um the people's republic of china's uh society that can be

00:18:01.900 exploited through political warfare uh to undermine um the chinese communist party so all of those

00:18:10.620 reasons means taiwan is a critical partner of the united states our economy is heavily dependent on it

00:18:17.420 in the war against the people's republic of china taiwan is a critical partner and the taiwanese have

00:18:24.700 critical advice to give us and insights to provide about how to cut the head off the snake which is how to

00:18:31.820 overthrow the chinese communist party and remove that threat existential threat from the united states and

00:18:40.860 from uh the american people election integrity perspective that we should look at what's going

00:18:50.860 on in taiwan since the chinese communist party is obviously so intent on influencing those election

00:19:10.620 the year said that uh uh the uh ccp's interfering in the taiwanese election no surprise there and he

00:19:18.620 identified mechanisms through uh essentially cyber means that they're going to be doing as secondly as

00:19:25.020 nicole mentioned right traditions of bribery uh interference when nicole mentioned the 600 local

00:19:31.660 officials uh who were invited uh to china uh of course those are ways to buy influence um within

00:19:41.100 china um and then there are coercive measures for example the satellite launch airplanes for example

00:19:47.900 all of that signaling uh the taiwanese people that um communist china is looking at them very very

00:19:55.180 closely and wants to put the thumb on the scale uh for uh their favorite candidates but all of this is a

00:20:02.620 trial run um for the united states for november uh 2024 in our u.s presidential election because there are

00:20:12.060 other mechanisms that joseph who didn't mention um that can be employed as well uh we're worried about

00:20:18.220 of course the employment of artificial intelligence and deep fakes uh in that regard we're also worried

00:20:24.300 about uh the uh tens of thousands no one really knows how many um chinese uh uh uh men of military age

00:20:35.020 very likely mss agents or uh pla uh agents or or um people's police or other uh authorities are coming into

00:22:00.220 elected so we can see that there are many uh mechanisms that the um prc can use to interfere in

00:24:11.660 manipulated um jim and i think that that's not accurate that in fact uh as you said at the outset
