Based Camp - Two Contrasting Animes Show How to Live Life & Win Elections

00:00:00.000 this guy represents is the iteration of the conservative party that the conservative party

00:00:06.320 lost the the pearl clutchers the oh my god how could they be doing something different oh my 0.95

00:00:11.700 god how could this be vulgar oh my god how could this be you know oh anime girls anime like matt

00:00:17.060 walsh represents this faction right like where he's always railing against things like anime

00:00:21.760 and video games now we're not gonna be able to karaoke with the guys no way we've got plenty of

00:00:28.460 time then we have the second anime that we're going to be talking about and people could argue

00:00:35.560 that all of mega is kind of doing it it opened this is hard to watch

00:00:50.180 would you like to know more hello simone i am excited to be talking to you today

00:01:02.400 today we are going to be talking about two things one is contrasting two animes in which the main

00:01:12.620 characters relate to the world very differently and i think through the contrast of these two

00:01:18.440 characters we can learn a lot about mental health and how both the urban monoculture but also the

00:01:25.440 older conservative culture ends up breaking apart people's minds and causing them to go sort of

00:01:31.940 crazy but we will also be focused on how much i have disdain for the pre-maga form of conservatism 0.74

00:01:46.200 um or specifically the form of it that didn't like grow up when conservatism became mega great example

00:01:53.720 of this and what got me thinking about this was an article that came out about us recently

00:01:57.500 by this guy who was just absolutely railing on us you're referring to a piece that came out in the

00:02:03.720 bulwark it's called the two faces of pronatalism and it's by jonathan last who apparently also wrote a

00:02:10.340 book on pronatalism at one point which i guess is one reason why he feels like he's just figured it out

00:02:15.660 yeah so perhaps the second and third most famous natalists in america are michael and simone

00:02:21.040 collins he really does his research doesn't he really does his research thanks to many many

00:02:26.720 press profiles of this activist 30-something couple which is not read apparently here's a sample of their

00:02:33.780 views on parenthood every decision that collins has made is backed by data nominative determinism is a

00:02:39.840 heavily studied field malcolm tells me when i ask about his children's names girls that have gender

00:02:44.800 neutral names are more likely to have high paying careers and to get stem degrees names like titan

00:02:49.360 industry are much more than gender neutral i say we wanted to give our kids strong names we wanted our

00:02:54.960 kids to have a strong internal locus of control he continues almost all the toys are gifts malcolm

00:03:00.400 says almost apologetically we don't throw out anything that gets sent to us both boys have their

00:03:05.640 own ipads fitted with a strap so they can wear them around their necks two-year-old torsten is alone

00:03:10.920 somewhere with his jokes on them the kids broke those straps so freaking fast yes they take me

00:03:17.500 upstairs as well as having separate offices simone and malcolm sleep in different bedrooms simone shows 0.94

00:03:23.720 me some decorations in the living room they relate to the intentionally constructed religion technically

00:03:29.720 asius they have internally developed to provide a moral framework promoting their values for

00:03:35.080 pronatalist families instead of christmas they have future day the future police come and take their 0.99

00:03:40.140 toys and then they have to write a contract about how they're going to make the world a better place

00:03:43.580 to get their toys back with some gifts and stuff they get more gifts when they do whatever they said

00:03:49.360 they were going to do what does christmas teach them get random toys if you're vaguely good and so that

00:03:55.880 was a quote that he had from a different article and so you know here i am specifically the guardian article

00:04:00.240 yeah i read that i'm like yeah that sounds pretty interesting and cool like obviously we're not going along with

00:04:04.840 what's socially normative but like yeah and he's like i am not one to judge other parents but that's

00:04:11.320 effed up let me proceed to judge from you're right no but the the point i'm making here is that this is

00:04:18.620 an individual who is like oh guffaw clutch my pearls people are doing things new so i looked up this guy

00:04:25.500 and i go what else is he known for he's known for being a never trumper conservative he wrote a long

00:04:31.920 piece about how amazing biden was for example he wrote i hope you drink it in last night it's one

00:04:38.020 of the most human memories i've ever seen in politics from the second the president stepped

00:04:42.000 on stage and embraced his daughter but it was more than that it was america saying goodbye to this

00:04:46.840 ordinary man who has become an extraordinary president a president who saved our democracy

00:04:51.420 this is one of those cases where the crayon strip doesn't give you enough context you need to see the

00:04:56.780 video you need to see biden's face and feel the vibrations coming from the crowd and you absolutely

00:05:02.220 need to watch his final section where he transitions from campaign speech to valediction and i i i think

00:05:10.540 somebody who can write with that much passion about joe biden i i what i realize is what this guy

00:05:17.880 represents is the iteration of the conservative party that the conservative party lost as it took

00:05:26.140 on people like you and me the the pearl clutchers the oh my god how could they be doing something 0.94

00:05:31.100 different oh my god how could this be vulgar oh my god how could this be you know oh anime girls

00:05:35.940 anime like matt walsh represents this faction right like where he's always railing against things like

00:05:41.520 anime and video games and it's like okay you know and i don't even think like okay boomer because

00:05:47.740 it's not boomer it's like a very specific faction of curmudgeon yeah it's it's not even curmudgeonly

00:05:53.540 it's like defeatist it reminds me a lot of pro-natalism in the uk where it's like oh things are just bad

00:06:02.140 aren't they there's nothing we can do about it and i just don't like it i think from the difference

00:06:08.380 between these two groups and we will look at this through anime we can understand how to improve our

00:06:15.460 own mental health more which is really because you can tell that an individual like this like you

00:06:20.560 and i are like living our lives out and proud and weird and we are clearly loving it like every day

00:06:27.760 i'm like this is the best life i could ever have and this guy clearly feels like the world's falling

00:06:34.460 apart around him you know oh everything was better in the past oh you know this is all so sad and you

00:06:41.640 and i are constantly like look at all the cool things i can do with ai now this is amazing what

00:06:45.640 a time to be alive and so there's these two animes one anime that we will be looking at is around a

00:06:53.220 character called tomo tomoko and it's called what i'm what what i'm out and it's and i'll put some

00:06:58.740 clips of it here to give you like a vibe of it it's about a young girl in middle school or early

00:07:05.880 high school who is very very socially anxious and she really really wants to be accepted by other 0.98

00:07:13.680 people and she just keeps self-destructing through her self-anxiety and intense desire for acceptance

00:07:24.220 by the community dance friends now we're not gonna be able to karaoke with the guys no way we've got 0.99

00:07:30.820 plenty of time and they're dumb sluts oh yeah we do it like every day wow she's definitely still a 1.00

00:07:40.040 virgin be sure to drink plenty of liquids and take precautions against heat stroke 1.00

00:07:43.620 go ahead and work yourselves to death corporate slave

00:07:50.400 seriously it doesn't even matter and it is a anime that the entire like it's a well-done anime but the

00:08:06.460 entire vibe of the anime is depression and and social rejection wow but i think a lot of people feel

00:08:13.600 like oh i get this right like i want it resonates with them so you think it's a popular anime

00:08:18.780 because people get it and they yeah it's like an anime dedicated to like a proto hikikomori

00:08:24.980 like you know i'm going to school but i don't really want to be here like what am i doing here etc

00:08:30.140 then we have the second anime that we're going to be talking about and this anime is called

00:08:35.940 chinubu and it is an anime uh about a girl that is equally socially awkward she's going 0.92

00:08:43.300 through a stage that they have in japan i've actually heard what's called like magic girl 0.73

00:08:47.440 stage or something but it's a it's something that we saw when we were kids some kids did and you know

00:08:52.080 i i went through phases where you do things like this in like middle school or high school and people

00:08:57.580 could argue that we're still kind of doing it that all of mega is kind of doing it which is to say

00:09:02.080 she dresses up like she is a magical girl what was like a air eye patch that she doesn't need and 0.99

00:09:10.380 then under the eye patch oh classic contact to try to make her look like special 1.00

00:09:15.500 this flavor this must be the work of the dark organization for our safety i shall seal it 0.98

00:09:23.440 there's no way

00:09:28.920 stay away get back

00:09:33.020 oh one moment please i'll put it back in it was a contact all along this is hard to watch

00:09:45.600 pretty nice red fruits can have seriously negative effects on one's powers this one curbs magical

00:09:58.480 abilities are you trying to say you don't like tomatoes this green squishy area is particularly

00:10:03.220 dangerous just look at it there's obviously something diabolical going on are they really

00:10:10.220 that bad rice has been tainted by its evil

00:10:12.860 and she the pretends like the world she's living in is one in which there's these like

00:10:22.220 magical beasts everywhere oh last night i was searching for the invisible boundary lines when

00:10:28.240 suddenly a ferocious beast appeared before me so i caught him do you really plan on keeping him yes

00:10:34.840 he will become my loyal familiar as a creature from the realm of darkness chimera has the power to 0.99

00:10:41.380 locate invisible boundary lines is is this the one and this girl like hangs out at the apartment of 0.96

00:10:47.960 someone else who just kind of tolerates her well so he learns to accept her as the show goes on

00:10:53.020 she's the type of person who like stands in front of like a train right before the the train doors 0.99

00:10:58.300 open and puts out her hand like she's forcing the doors 1.00

00:11:00.720 it opened

00:11:07.780 i think i've seen clips of this yes look to learn look at the guy who is watching like very self-satisfied

00:11:17.840 you know like i did that yeah and the the sort of plot of this one is this guy that you are

00:11:23.780 thinking of he's a guy who used to be like this he used to when he was in middle school do all of

00:11:29.660 this stuff and he's just gone to high school and he wants a clean state and to be like the mature cool

00:11:34.820 every man but he used to write like fan fiction basically about this world and the character that

00:11:39.940 he built for it and now this girl is obsessed with that version of him the middle school version of

00:11:44.600 him and is constantly trying to get him like back into that lifestyle um and it comes out as the

00:11:51.000 show develops that she adopted a lot of this because her dad died and it was a way that she could

00:11:58.980 create a world where she could believe she could still communicate with him in a way so she's in

00:12:04.280 an objectively worse like world and state than the girl in the depressed anyway like both of these

00:12:11.980 enemies are girls around the same age both of these girls are social rejects both of these girls are 1.00

00:12:17.280 girls that most of the people in their class when they look at them would look at them with derision 1.00

00:12:23.120 but one of these girls is living an amazing life where she is like clearly thrilled with what's 1.00

00:12:29.420 happening every day yes i can't believe you have roller skates in your shoes are you a kid they

00:12:34.640 provide excellent mobility also with these when i come under enemy fire clang clang

00:12:40.500 the other girl is living a a living nightmare 0.99

00:12:48.080 i'm so lonely

00:12:51.640 what's up there there's some weird girl standing outside maybe all come back is shaking their next 1.00

00:13:01.580 lives and the difference between them is a few things one it's personal choice it's how do they

00:13:08.960 contextualize a lot of if you look at like maga right one of the sort of the totems of maga of

00:13:17.900 maga jokes of maga art of like the back color of like man's world which is so you know new right 0.98

00:13:24.520 that it was in a magazine mocking the new right they what was it new yorker they drew a man's world

00:13:29.720 cover on the wall oh the npr yeah so so even npr is like yes if you are a new right you have your

00:13:36.200 man's world you know thing they had like this this triumvirate of a big t-word anime girl trump 1.00

00:13:43.960 and then shinzo abe and and shinzo abe is part of this because of the memes like shinzo abe protecting

00:13:51.580 trump from the grave like when he was almost shot or the the reddit witches saying we keep trying to

00:13:57.540 cast a spell on trump but whatever we do we can't seem to get his numbers down in the polls and then

00:14:03.140 they'll post this was like a shinzo abe going like this you know or you know have babies you know

00:14:08.560 shinzo abe and then like see you let airspace cowboy and we know like i don't think anyone

00:14:15.140 who's making these jokes thinks shinzo abe is really doing this he's really out there protecting

00:14:21.840 trump what they are doing is in the same way this girl like throws out her hand like i'm opening the 0.82

00:14:27.740 the doors on this train they are doing that with this they are leaning into something that we're all

00:14:34.360 like yeah but it's more fun to pretend that shinzo abe is out there thwarting yeah it's it's choosing

00:14:41.620 a world that's not necessarily real but committing to the bit and loving it having a lot of fun works

00:14:48.520 that's not it's like the adult version of pretend and it totally does work this is a magic potion it'll

00:14:55.320 replenish your magical energy the bureau hides it in plain sight yeah and people can look at you guys

00:15:00.600 and they'll be like well so much of you know when i see some of your rhetoric and you're talking about

00:15:04.200 like the urban monoculture is being like sauron like out there you know searching for your you

00:15:10.300 know band of misfits for like all different you know tribes and coalitions and races you know your

00:15:16.880 dwarves and your elves and your and your high elves and then your your hobbits i don't know what we

00:15:22.280 would be within this this coalition we're what dwarves probably the cast are we because we want to

00:15:29.440 modify humans they they no but the point being is they have this coalition and this is the way we

00:15:37.500 really see it and they're like and maga sort of paints itself as fighting this like apocalyptic

00:15:42.600 battle for like human civilization and like aren't they delusional and it's like no it's useful in terms

00:15:52.600 of guiding action and getting people excited and it's fun and you're right and exactly this very

00:15:58.560 christian fuddy-duddy approach to life that's very low energy is also something i actually saw in a piece

00:16:05.560 that came out today in christianity today the publication christianity today called neither pity

00:16:10.380 nor pedestal by kate lucky and she even writes about us that uh well she she refers to one of our

00:16:19.460 our lucid car seat law executive order and our national medal of motherhood executive order and

00:16:24.920 then says that idea came via draft executive order from simone and malcolm collins two of the most

00:16:29.620 provocative figures in an informal pronatalist coalition of conservative religious family values

00:16:35.120 types and catastrophist techno utopians members of the latter group the collinses believe that declining

00:16:41.800 birth rates will prove apocalyptic and that having children is a civilization civilization saving 1.00

00:16:46.820 imperative so you're totally right that this low energy she's like can't we be lower energy about 1.00

00:16:54.900 yeah like yeah yeah why are they so extra why do they have to catastrophize this why are they techno

00:17:00.900 utopians like she frames it as like well of course you know pronatalism is is of the normal christian

00:17:07.520 family values people and then it's these crazy cosplayer larpers who have no reason to be here 0.73

00:17:17.280 so you're absolutely right that we are very consistently framed and categorized that way but

00:17:22.800 we're also having a lot more fun than they are i give up who are you the one who wields the mjolnir

00:17:28.880 hammer is sanai dekomori rejoice for i have arrived mjolnir join us

00:17:36.560 first level seal activated magical output increased

00:17:47.280 be banished from this world

00:17:54.000 cut it out and give us a hand youtube no the thing is it's one of these things where what's very

00:18:02.540 important to understand is we understand where we're larping we understand where the lines are

00:18:09.360 we don't actually expect shinzo abe to have our back but as you've said before too and i i think this

00:18:16.940 is 100 accurate all culture is a larp yes their alarm just is lame but the the point i'm making

00:18:24.640 simone is yes it's a larp yes it's out there yes it's over the top but it is all over the top

00:18:30.900 with an end goal right like it's not like we are we allow inaccurate beliefs about reality

00:18:38.840 to cloud our vision in a way that leads to misplaced action that is where you have problems

00:18:46.480 right like where you believe in the magic or whatever and so you you spend your money on etsy

00:18:52.740 spells or you you know there there are ways that this can go wrong but what the new right has done

00:18:58.600 is normalized the joke of it while also larping with it you have to really appreciate though that

00:19:06.280 we do literally live in an age where there are at least a handful of people who probably make their

00:19:12.560 entire income by selling magical spells on the internet and i really love that the whole episode

00:19:18.740 about that if people want to go to it yeah but i'm thinking here about like you know freedom tunes

00:19:22.880 channel i really love he probably wouldn't like us we i don't know but he does these great cartoons

00:19:27.500 and one when the left freaked out about like eating dogs and cats comment by trump is he made a whole

00:19:33.660 video about like migrants dancing was like forks and knives around a dog they're cooking and then leftists

00:19:39.080 keep coming up and explaining like this is likely not accurate and what's funny is the point we don't care

00:19:46.740 like the point of the joke is we don't care whether it's true it's the gist of it that we care about

00:19:53.520 right the gist of it is people are coming over with vastly different cultural values than ours

00:19:59.080 and normal americans end up suffering as a result of this we don't care that you're like oh there

00:20:04.980 wasn't a hard confirmed report about that yeah that has to be like a lot of people just feel like hey

00:20:12.460 it's not cool that the government doesn't have its its business in order for taking care of me as a

00:20:18.720 citizen why is it taking care of non-citizen that's really the the basis of it

00:20:23.360 there have been no credible reports of specific claims of pets being harmed injured or abused

00:20:31.560 eating the dogs they're eating the cats eat the cat eat the cat the springfield ohio police department

00:20:45.240 has debunked this very bizarre and very hateful

00:20:49.680 the point i'm making is is that when leftists attack this they think that they're trying to

00:20:57.020 convince us that like immigrants aren't actually eating dogs and cats and i'm like that is 0.99

00:21:01.720 literally irrelevant and if anything it's funny that you are so working yourself up in knots to try

00:21:08.560 to convince us of that because this is like a vibe for us right um and the other thing that's really

00:21:17.020 clear throughout the differences between these two animes is in what a mode where she's she desperately

00:21:24.140 wants the validation of everyone she doesn't really have any friends she doesn't really know

00:21:31.500 these other people who she wants validation but she's classic spoonie upper middle class middle class

00:21:37.140 female angst she wants yeah she wants to be popular she wants the other girls and boys to want to talk to 1.00

00:21:45.300 her and to think she looks cool like she'll do things like practice like cool looking poses in the 1.00

00:21:50.960 mirror before going to school and then try them at school and when other people don't react you know

00:21:55.580 she'll like have a breakdown you know like the the other girl in meanwhile is like trying to create 1.00

00:22:02.980 like little stand-ins for like magical girl powers and like goes at school or like she has a friend 1.00

00:22:09.560 that has ponytails but she attaches things to the end of the ponytail so she can swing them like a 1.00

00:22:14.560 magical girl would in like a battle oh that's so cute and there's like and and they know that this is 0.99

00:22:20.520 like there's a scene where like they create like a summoning circle and the show does this fun thing of

00:22:25.680 constantly switching between what they're seeing and then what the people who aren't buying into their

00:22:29.940 alternate world are seeing and then it switches to what everyone else is seeing and it's the girls like

00:22:34.420 spinning around in circles and around them is like a concentric circle of like christmas lights you know

00:22:40.680 that they that they've made to be their magical portal or whatever and like they're having a blast

00:22:45.740 you can be like but it's just christmas lights and it's like stop being such a downer man like we're

00:22:50.700 having fun here but the important thing about these girls and in this one is they don't want the 1.00

00:22:57.520 validation of everyone in fact they don't care what most of the other students think she cares about

00:23:04.760 what people with values that align with her values think that's why she goes after the boy who had

00:23:11.680 written these like fan fictions that she got really into that's why it was the other girlfriends that she

00:23:16.720 hangs out with or that end up being drawn to her and this guy they're the other few people that play

00:23:21.820 this like pretend way of living life right you know and they care about what each other think

00:23:27.420 but they don't care about what the rest of the class thinks and so there isn't ever this you know

00:23:34.200 i think that that's such an important thing to redirect your life around and it's something that

00:23:39.240 this older anti-maga republican class right that they're going out there and they're like well you

00:23:47.780 wouldn't want to do anything that would have people look look down on you you know you wouldn't want to

00:23:52.180 do anything that would make you look weird you wouldn't want to and i think if you look at like

00:23:57.280 the garishness of a lot of the things that trump does you see no he wants to appeal to specific

00:24:04.160 people but he doesn't care about everyone like most people would think his design is pretty trashy

00:24:07.840 yeah like pretty much anything elon does he just seems to be too autistic to to notice he likes you 0.95

00:24:13.680 know the trolling if you look at us it's not that we don't care what people think we care what people

00:24:20.840 with aligned values think right you know if we bring somebody we don't regard the opinion of

00:24:28.020 many people because their values are not aligned with us and therefore they're not relevant to us

00:24:32.860 why would you care about somebody like that like they're not like you they don't have the same

00:24:38.300 values so what makes other people so afraid of this do they assume that the people whose regard

00:24:43.160 they're attempting to garner have aligned values with them or they're just they're not thinking

00:24:47.460 about it at all they don't have their own values what what is it i think it's that they don't

00:24:51.660 really have their own values i think it's that they value social conformity above all else and

00:24:58.660 they're just mad that what society is socially conforming around is changing they were it's a

00:25:04.860 class of people who grew up and were christians or were catholics or were jews because everyone

00:25:10.160 around them was christian or catholics or jews um and and this is what was you know prestigious and

00:25:15.440 this is what was normal and they laughed at the you know liberals because the liberals well they

00:25:22.360 weren't conforming in the right way they they weren't like you know the proper people but now

00:25:27.720 by every standard the proper people are the the urban monoculture are the progressives and these

00:25:33.500 people are just sort of like left shouting at the wind right like how dare you how dare you change

00:25:41.040 and how dare you change and and what's going on here where where is the good old conservators of

00:25:46.860 the past who just you know never offended anyone and always and and why did that form of conservatism

00:25:53.400 die out why did the well we don't want to you know rustle any jimmies here because the left figured out 0.92

00:25:59.380 that they were very easy to control all you needed to do was pretend to be offended and they would back

00:26:05.280 down and and so they and we've seen that the left really weaponized this strategy is pretend that

00:26:12.080 something that is a normal thing to do is just like how could you even begin to say something like

00:26:17.940 there's only men and women right like you know the how how could you say something like that this is so

00:26:24.300 outlandishly offensive and and and then they they capture that conversation because people like this

00:26:30.560 guy would have been like oh well if somebody's getting offended i guess this is where i stop

00:26:34.100 and then the other culture the culture that went into conservatives like no let's lean into

00:26:39.400 being the weird anime girl let's or do you think i mean you you did one episode for example on on

00:26:45.860 discussed driven cultures and one thing that also stands out to me in that neither pity nor pedestal

00:26:52.260 article that i mentioned to you is she mentions on several occasions that things about us give her the

00:26:57.600 ick that like she doesn't she she appreciates that for example that we're against eugenics and yet

00:27:04.760 our concept of polygenics still gives her the ick and she appreciates other things that we do but she

00:27:11.320 still doesn't like them and i think so so it's interesting so look she's don't don't you think

00:27:17.200 this is disgust driven too though i mean i feel like i think it's disgust driven but i think what people

00:27:21.340 like this don't realize is how because you know she works for an old conservative outlet right so 1.00

00:27:28.180 she probably got this job and like the old conservative regime appealing to older conservatives 1.00

00:27:33.600 who don't really realize culture has changed and so you know she thinks that she's signaling like her

00:27:39.280 own status with this piece she thinks she's signaling how like well you know i'm like one of the

00:27:45.940 the good ones right like i know you know what's normative and what's not normative and i shame

00:27:50.960 non-normative behavior but the thing about the new conservative culture whether it's the new right

00:27:56.400 or maga is that if you go out there and you list like you try to drive other people's behavior by being

00:28:04.260 like oh this thing that you're doing is is ick or this thing that you're doing is ick people are 0.55

00:28:11.320 generally going to be like sort of push you out and not really like you because they're like oh

00:28:15.820 you're going out there trying to control other people like this worked in the last conservative

00:28:20.060 ecosystem this is not something that works in this conservative ecosystem in fact this is something

00:28:24.780 that the wokies do like when she goes out there and says oh they're giving me the ick i'm like oh 0.98

00:28:28.940 so you're using a woke structure of argument there you're being like don't you see how weird you are

00:28:34.320 don't you see how different you are why don't you act more like what the universities say we should be

00:28:38.920 acting like why don't you act more like what the proper people in society say you should be working

00:28:43.000 like and so i think that it's interesting is that she thinks that she's signaling you know her

00:28:48.560 status and she is to a certain community of like older school you know aging people from like the 0.94

00:28:55.700 evangelical revolution but her message i think invalidates her in the eyes of a lot of younger

00:29:01.980 conservatives which is why we're seeing younger conservatives move to things like youtube watching

00:29:06.660 our videos i'd be very surprised if something like her article got as many views as like an average one

00:29:11.280 of our videos like that's just the way things are these days because this is the new like it's just

00:29:18.420 more fun like as soon as people realize you can do this without acting the way that she's acting

00:29:22.080 you're like oh this is fun you know you see somebody shaming this stuff especially when they're shaming

00:29:26.200 like fairly normal and like not particularly over the line positions of ours like hey we should be

00:29:32.160 awarding mothers like and she's like well i don't know that could ruffle some jimmy awarding mothers 1.00

00:29:37.040 well literally the argument she makes actually is like well but awarding mothers implies that they

00:29:41.660 make some kind of sacrifice that being a mother is is is hard and that it neutralizes your personality

00:29:48.120 and she's putting all these things on it that don't even exist like well no but i mean i think that

00:29:52.640 this is what she's talking about she's like oh and she says obviously being a mom is a sacrifice

00:29:58.480 like obviously it is it's hard what are you talking about lady like my wife works her butt off 1.00

00:30:04.400 like being a mom right and you work your butt off being a dad yeah contributing to the next generation

00:30:09.620 is a sacrifice and you can say well it's fun and everything like that but like why shouldn't we

00:30:14.180 be honoring that yeah and here she is she has one toddler child and she says that she's pernatalist

00:30:19.880 but here she is saying like the article's literally titled neither pity nor pedestal that like parents

00:30:25.340 should not be pedestalized and parents should not be pitied and that a problem with pernatalist

00:30:30.660 policies as they do either or both of those things and it's like well no but it's this type

00:30:36.420 of conservative just doesn't have kids yeah no she's it doesn't seem like she's super stoked to 1.00

00:30:42.700 have more herself it's it's odd yeah this low energy well i mean part of me wonders like i could see that

00:30:51.560 this this this could exist and be sustainable in a pre-tech age where you're very afraid of being kicked

00:30:58.300 out of your village because that means death but we don't live in that age anymore so it's a little

00:31:05.560 different yeah well i mean i think that that these cultures and these people like it's one of these

00:31:12.160 things where like they're out there and they're like well what do you think of us shaming you and i

00:31:16.380 was like i think as much of you shaming me as a character in shinibo would think of a character in

00:31:22.500 like moto was like concerned that that the shinibo girls are acting weird it's like yeah but you're

00:31:29.580 sitting there depressed in a corner with no friends like what why why is what we're doing so we're

00:31:36.620 having fun here like come join the fun side come join the the anime girls and shinzo abe's magic and

00:31:47.540 um you know the 4chan and trolling and weird grammar and language like you get was like bronze age

00:31:54.460 pervert and i mean i think the the importance on the weird side is also you know not attacking people

00:32:01.480 unless they're attacking other people like this is where we want people to be we want people to be

00:32:06.220 over here on this side and understand that people can express vastly different beliefs but as long as

00:32:14.000 they are playing nice with everyone else on this side we should always just being trying to

00:32:20.320 positively signal boost them like bronze age pervert has like radically different beliefs than we do 0.94

00:32:24.860 you know zero hp lovecraft has radically different beliefs than we do but i've read their stuff and i'm

00:32:29.820 like it's interesting and definitely worth engaging with you know and i would encourage other people to

00:32:34.280 to engage with it absolutely yeah to get a variety of views and sharpen your own and you're not going to

00:32:41.600 really sharpen your own views and have stronger convictions if you can't contrast what you believe

00:32:47.840 to what other people believe so i totally i'm with you on that i almost feel like also religion at its best

00:32:54.720 is this it is extra it is adding magical world elements and demons and and angels and guardians and

00:33:05.600 temptation and all of these additional bits of magic and intrigue to your life yeah and the type

00:33:12.180 of religion that i see practiced here is the the type of religion that mostly has lost faith because

00:33:18.360 the world isn't magical like that for it's a gray religion is the only way i can say it yeah the world in 0.98

00:33:23.520 shades of gray instead of vibrant yeah these people aren't speaking in tongues these people aren't

00:33:27.860 holding snakes these people aren't talking to angels these people they're they're not and i think that

00:33:33.900 they're also just kind of showing up and going through the motions and i don't care what you do

00:33:39.200 as part of your religion but i i see all of those extra actions the things that people raise their

00:33:45.380 eyebrows and in reaction to seeing as a sign of really leaning in and having maybe a harder religion

00:33:52.040 so well yeah but i also think that the thing about this like leaning all in going crazy with this

00:33:59.100 is that it effing works somehow you know i've joked about how like us just sending in the executive

00:34:05.420 orders is like that scene in gurun lagun where he just takes the other mech and he's like combine

00:34:10.620 and he just sticks it in his head and it somehow works we'll never know unless we try will we

00:34:16.200 you see that what do you think fuzzball we're the same as you

00:34:26.000 wow we were really able to combine you were right bro you were right sure looks that way doesn't

00:34:34.360 wait how could you combine and then it's like that's not how you what are you doing that's not

00:34:41.960 how you combine robots but that's that's basically what we did is we just sent this out there and

00:34:48.260 almost like there's there's a great gambling anime called oh god i love that anime it's like the

00:34:53.180 gambling school anime so good like us going into the world of these really petty press people who

00:35:01.660 all wanted us to fail it was like entering this this gambling school in this anime where it's all

00:35:07.140 of these like high class cliques like laughing at us the people who don't know what they're doing

00:35:11.840 and thinking about how they're going to cheat us like the way that they screw over every other like

00:35:17.120 new person into into complete destitution was there like crooked press tactics because we're

00:35:23.240 just so unsophisticated and that what they don't understand is that we love gambling they don't

00:35:29.140 understand is that we actually are quite good with the online trolling and press game but also like

00:35:34.160 for us it's it's the thrill it's the fun of it that we're we're there because it we like it and

00:35:38.560 they're there it's hilarious when they freak out and they start reading and them trying to like

00:35:43.760 outplay or destroy us they end up having a reporter ask trump directly you know what do you think

00:35:51.180 about these pro natalist policies and he goes well they sound like a good idea to me and i'm like i

00:35:56.280 wasn't going to be able to get a policy directly to trump but thank you for getting a policy directly

00:36:01.360 to trump on my behalf through your panic like and then they end up like one of those because the

00:36:08.020 way it always works for the gambling one is some girl will take this girl and they'll have this scam 1.00

00:36:12.640 and this plan to screw her over and then what they realize as it begins to play through is one

00:36:18.820 she knows everything they're doing before they do it and two she doesn't actually care about winning 0.97

00:36:25.360 or screwing people over in the way that they do she just really loves games of chance oh man and they

00:36:32.520 always end up quite freaked out because they they realize when they're not in control anymore and i think

00:36:38.780 that's the way a lot of the press has been with us or the guardian like at first the guardian was

00:36:42.500 all nice like you know like one of those anime girls oh we're going to screw over these simpletons 1.00

00:36:48.660 and as we began to talk with them more and more the reporters were more like aggressively hostile

00:36:52.700 to us because they were like i know your strategies i know your thing and i'm like oh i know you do i

00:36:59.420 know you do so here's come play with me medals to mothers a very simple thing that will make you

00:37:06.500 sound very misogynistic if you attack it but the nazis also did something like this i mean yes

00:37:12.680 the modern french government does this yes stalin did this yes governments throughout history even

00:37:17.380 the united states used to do this but you are not going to be able to resist saying nazis did it and

00:37:22.920 so you're going to go out there and you're going to attack a program that will make it look like you're

00:37:27.540 attacking mothers because you know this is the one again we give medals to scientists who sacrifice for

00:37:33.000 the future medals to warriors who sacrifice for the future medals to industrialists why not mothers

00:37:38.060 oh because it's something only women can do you know you're going to look misogynistic and i can tell 0.98

00:37:43.900 you every single part of my plan and i know you won't be able to resist making a fool of yourself 0.95

00:37:49.680 it's fun it is ultimately quite fun 0.97

00:37:54.240 it's like i i hold them from punching themselves in the face for a minute and i'm like

00:38:17.620 you sure you want me to like you're just gonna punch yourself in the face again and they're like

00:38:22.220 no i got it this time well what i think is interesting about the shows that you highlighted

00:38:25.360 though especially the ones that have these characters in them that the audience understands

00:38:30.920 are delusional is that there's a certain allure to that lifestyle and i think most people just don't

00:38:37.460 know how to bridge that gap how do you get to that point where you can dance like there's no one

00:38:44.160 looking right you know people say that but very few people find themselves capable of doing that

00:38:50.000 maybe it's a lifetime of practice but i feel like most of our audience already has this capability

00:38:55.480 you know they because they're autistic that doesn't count that's like a free pass no no no hold on i 0.87

00:39:01.020 don't think it's just being autistic i think it's it's being imaginative being engaged with the world

00:39:05.500 being able to be like i'm in a fight for human civilization and yes there may be several layers

00:39:10.560 of abstraction between like my daily actions in that battle but like why not treat every morning when you

00:39:18.140 wake up like civilization depends on your actions like why not treat every job you do every email

00:39:24.320 you send like you are in a now i'm not saying act like a crazy person where other people think you're

00:39:30.560 a crazy person you know you are dressed up one thing that's happened to me recently is from fans

00:39:34.780 i realize now that i'm interacting with with random people some of which are smart some of which 0.99

00:39:38.780 are complete idiots is people do not realize how much not using proper email etiquette 0.99

00:39:45.120 makes you look like a complete idiot like if you send me an email like if you are a a random person 1.00

00:39:52.340 or a lower status person sending an email now it's okay for high status people to send lower status 1.00

00:39:56.100 email people emails that aren't properly formatted but if you're like a fan reaching out to us and you

00:40:01.040 don't write like hi malcolm comma body of email best name like i'm like oh this person probably has

00:40:08.700 like a mental illness or they weren't educated or because one thing i can know is somebody who's like

00:40:14.400 well i'm a genius and i feel all these and i and i don't do that and i'm like it doesn't matter if

00:40:19.080 you're a genius you're never going to be able to raise vc money you're never going to be because if

00:40:22.540 you didn't know to do that to me you definitely didn't know to do that when you're trying to raise

00:40:26.180 money you definitely didn't know to do that when you know you were going out and you know trying to

00:40:32.400 build b2b partnerships so like yeah you might be a genius but that genius is all trapped in your head

00:40:39.400 and true genius is knowing how to interact with other people in a way that would actually engage

00:40:43.920 them rather than a way that masturbates your own self-image yeah not wrong well i mean this is just

00:40:51.520 true a lot of people just engage in a way that masturbates their own self-image well and i mean

00:40:55.480 especially now people have no excuse when it comes to polished looking communication because you can

00:41:01.300 literally ask an ai like you can you can put in your drivel or what you think is acceptable and just

00:41:08.120 be like hey can you make this a little more acceptable and guess what it's going to find

00:41:11.500 something wrong and it's going to fix it for you so but i think i don't know i think a lot of people 0.94

00:41:15.480 just don't realize that and they're probably also a lot of people out there who are just mentally ill

00:41:19.180 and incapable of doing that yeah or too personally arrogant or self-important to do it um and here i

00:41:26.060 would note a final anime that i think refs is because if you look at something like chimunyo or

00:41:32.060 whatever you're looking at this anime and you're like okay but like the characters aren't successful

00:41:35.420 they're just kids etc that doesn't mean that you can't combine the pretend with being actually

00:41:43.260 competent at being successful a great anime that's an example of this of the animes i've mentioned it's

00:41:48.060 my favorite to watch is eminence and the shadows and it's a familiar what's this one about it's an

00:41:54.740 izake about a guy who is actually quite competent who ends up getting izaked that means brought back in

00:41:59.700 another world i've i've written one of those that i gave you to listen to with an ai so let's see how

00:42:04.320 that turns out but it's called the arrogant pragmatist gets izaked but anyway so i'll try

00:42:09.660 to add that one to this video as well if you guys want to check out like some of the stories i've

00:42:12.700 been trying to put together with ai so you know it's it'll be a bit different than a traditional

00:42:17.060 story because it's more like me playing through an izake but in this one so he gets izaked and then

00:42:21.140 he's like you know what i'm gonna pretend like i'm running like a shadowy organization that's

00:42:25.400 fighting other shadowy organizations and of course other shadowy organizations turn out to actually

00:42:30.280 exist and he is actually quite competent and he actually ends up building out this giant network

00:42:35.780 that's fighting these other organizations through what he sees as just like goofing around but like

00:42:41.260 everybody else loves it because he's being extra with everything he's doing the whole villainous

00:42:46.780 behind the scenes outfit and poses and meeting with people conspiratorially and people want to like

00:42:53.440 lean into that even if it's a little fake and i think that when we dropped the the disgust based

00:43:00.480 moral framing like oh don't do that that's like weird and ick like i think people realize it's like

00:43:06.620 oh as soon as i don't care about people who think like that anymore well now i can sort of be extra

00:43:13.420 you know i can i can have god emperor trump and talk about him this was a big meme you know during

00:43:18.520 previous election cycles it comes from warhammer and they made like giant floats of god emperor trump

00:43:23.820 and everything like that and it's it's fun people will see the white house press account they're like

00:43:28.960 the white house press account it tweeted something like check out the covid.org page i think you'll

00:43:34.740 find this pretty funny and they made the whole page just like an explanation of how the lab leak scam

00:43:41.120 was tried to be covered up and how it all points back to fauci um and people were like french

00:43:47.880 outlets were like oh chocolate blue like this is not proper manners you cannot do this because

00:43:53.980 i want to surprise i count and meanwhile everyone else is like what like it serves the purpose it's

00:43:59.020 funny it's more engaging like what do you mean you're trying to shame us into your manners in a way

00:44:06.460 that hurts the message and this is really what i'm talking about with something like sending proper

00:44:10.280 emails versus doing tweets right like with tweets you're doing this to a broad audience you're trying

00:44:15.500 to get people to engage with it when it comes to sending like properly structured emails it's like

00:44:20.720 you know the single target of this and your goal is to get that person on your side do you want to

00:44:28.920 actively insult the person the one person who's reading this with something like a tweet like that

00:44:34.540 we know that will insult a portion of the readers but i personally as somebody who's watching this

00:44:40.460 happen like that i know the other half of the readers are so angry at how this insults it

00:44:45.020 in one you're seeing shrewdness in the other you're seeing i guess a lack of education or a lack of world

00:44:52.160 knowledge yeah okay so what you're trying to do is is highlight the differentiation between irreverence and

00:45:01.640 foolishness like basic yeah foolishness or there is strategic irreverence and there is and there is

00:45:10.600 direct self-indulgent foolishness and the difference between the two is a strategic irreverence is usually 0.96

00:45:17.280 meant to signal and to play and to have fun in the wider world the foolishness is typically meant to

00:45:23.780 build up your own ego to make you think you're a bigger and better deal than you really are

00:45:28.540 hmm okay that makes sense that totally makes sense interesting

00:45:36.280 do you think though that there's a genetic component to this like

00:45:42.140 is it worth it to encourage people to consider this lifestyle what if a lot of people just can't pull it

00:45:47.420 off i mean yeah there is a genetic component it's worth it to talk about it as something that's

00:45:54.020 happening and i do think that some people can't pull it off you know they can they can live in the

00:46:00.360 the world it genuinely feels like that fun movie about the 1950s where like part of the community

00:46:06.760 is living in black and white and part of the community is living in color right what smallville

00:46:12.580 smallville no smallville's the superman reboot i'm pretty sure it's pleasantville hold on

00:46:18.140 yeah pleasantville yeah fun movie by the way if you haven't watched it i mean it's got sort of

00:46:23.120 woke messaging but it's a well-constructed movie um and i think quite entertaining and i don't think

00:46:29.700 it's like that woke it's like racism is bad it's like okay like i'm okay with that message but it's

00:46:35.400 it's it's it's a it's it's a well-delivered version of that message but anyway the point i'm making is is i

00:46:40.400 get the impression that a lot of these people are living in a black and white world while you and i are

00:46:45.200 living in a in a in a uh what's the word dynamic color technicolor technicolor technicolor world

00:46:52.760 any thoughts simone i would i would add that there's one more thing that we constantly refer to

00:46:59.560 on this front which is the adams family and we love the adams family because they choose to

00:47:05.700 contextualize stuff that the average person sees as creepy or to use common parlance ick and they love

00:47:12.980 it they find it very entertaining they don't care what other people think because they know what

00:47:17.060 they like and they are are politely tolerant of other people if unhappy with their choices

00:47:24.200 but yeah they live a much happier life the joke of the adams family is that while they are not

00:47:32.160 monsters they are viewed as monsters because they're so culturally different but in the end gomez and

00:47:37.720 morticia love each other more than any other couple their relationships with their kids

00:47:42.540 are stronger than any other person they meet the kids relationships with each other are stronger

00:47:47.400 than anyone else they meet everything about the family is actually with the goal of wholesomeness

00:47:52.620 more wholesome and i think that's one of the things people see when they meet with us they're like oh

00:47:55.900 my god at the end of the day they are actually like way more wholesome and in love and and doing great

00:48:03.540 like things for their family and living this good life than other people are like

00:48:08.620 we can mock them for being non-culturally normative but this seems to be working and the adams family

00:48:14.920 isn't the only example of this the other really good example is a legally blonde for like a 90s 1.00

00:48:19.300 example of this where like clearly she's shamed for acting this way clearly it's non-culturally

00:48:24.400 normal and i think legally bond might even within this conversation be the better example because i was

00:48:30.120 talking about something like knowing how to properly format an email in legally blonde sort of the story arc

00:48:35.540 is is she learns how to act in and do things in a way that fits and doesn't like randomly offend like 0.53

00:48:44.040 other people in the legal profession and stuff like that that is legally professional but still

00:48:49.220 within her own cultural framing and oh like here's my resume it's scented yeah and pink yeah you know

00:48:58.140 she's doing it the right way but she's doing it with cultural framing so she's not not showing respect

00:49:05.060 but she's still showing who she is and how she's different yeah she's clearly different you can see

00:49:09.800 that but also it's still a little it's still a little weird yeah but i think you know we've had

00:49:16.120 people reach out to us before in a way that is both professional and extra like i'm reaching out to

00:49:21.920 you also here's a customized video pitch deck that i created and here's how my values are aligned with

00:49:31.060 your values and we're like wow this is we've never seen anyone do this before this was the bruno guy

00:49:36.300 right who bruno did this yeah and i was like i love you instantly like you get it you you're doing

00:49:42.980 this different no one has ever done this before with us and i want to work with you yeah part of the

00:49:49.780 family now you're in and extra right like yeah that is what we were looking for and you don't

00:49:56.200 we're okay with people who are just professional people are just professional and competent i still

00:50:00.020 want to work with them the the only group that we don't want to work with is people who try to shame

00:50:04.880 or ick other people into not being extra yeah but people who are just professional and competent i'm

00:50:10.200 not like you're part of the family bruno's part of the family he's in you know what i mean but i think

00:50:15.280 we're seeing this across other professions as well now because there's like bigger areas so for me

00:50:20.360 like this this shades of gray world is there's like a part of the world that has just tried to blind

00:50:24.720 themselves to anything made by ai whether it's ai songs or ai or ai and they're like oh well like i

00:50:31.760 and clearly they think that they're signaling some form of status or moral superiority yeah and i'm like

00:50:37.380 bro you look like a vegan like it's it's you're you're not eating the the tasty thing and you think

00:50:43.860 everybody thinks that you're like really moral but actually we just think you're a curmudgeon

00:50:48.100 yeah anyway like the people who didn't like electricity when it was really this is a big

00:50:55.080 thing by the way yeah a lot of people would like thought it was high status like did not use

00:50:58.380 electricity just oh oh it's so dangerous don't you know it can electrocute an elephant

00:51:03.300 yeah it yeah all right i love your approach to life i love that every day with you feels like

00:51:10.740 my birthday and christmas and halloween all at the same time and life feels so much more real

00:51:19.960 this way oh no i agree no it is like extra real like it is like not being sedated whereas their version

00:51:28.980 of life feels so sedated so thank you thank you for being extra and vivacious and i i do think that

00:51:40.180 in the end our kids are more likely to want to pass down our culture because

00:51:44.760 this is a culture that gets you out of bed in the morning i mean i think you know like there are other

00:51:50.140 versions of it though they don't have to give you the ick if our version gives you like i think the opus

00:51:54.960 day great example of like extra you know totally leaning in but not you know very different

00:52:00.680 culturally that i would also consider to be super cool like this and and very gung-ho with how they

00:52:08.080 approach life but some people i guess would see it as like oh what to like bring your religious

00:52:13.200 fervor to to work that's weird why would i do that yeah it's like no that's cool like yeah no you

00:52:22.040 back you should bring your religious fervor to work and keep your mind like this isn't just like

00:52:25.840 this is in a way this is what like ultra orthodox jews are doing like every day they're like totally 0.95

00:52:30.740 they're they're being a hundred percent you know yes all right love you to death simone i love you too

00:52:35.760 do you want for dinner mango curry with extra chili peppers so half the amount is last night

00:52:41.420 and coconut rice or fried rice that's reheated or would you like the

00:52:48.740 burmese thai basil chicken the burmese thai basil chicken that stuff is so good good thing we made

00:52:56.960 a big batch of it then i'm so glad that's good i will make that a little bit of extra peppers right

00:53:02.200 it needs extra peppers it does it not but fewer fewer than last night significantly fewer are not

00:53:08.700 in crushing pain and then i will finish your laundry and hopefully we will go to bed early so that i am not

00:53:14.940 sleep deprived anymore all right hey the cruise is tomorrow i'm so excited it's gonna be amazing

00:53:22.980 i love you i love you too and girl yeah little orphan annie i'm familiar with the concept i haven't

00:53:29.700 seen it it looks depressing you haven't seen the movie well the there's this woman named miss hannigan

00:53:33.420 who runs the the orphanage and she's kind of fabulous like as a kid i thought she was 0.99

00:53:37.800 evil and stuff but now when i think back to her she's just like this perpetually drunk woman 1.00

00:53:45.440 wearing a slip like languishing around the orphanage making the children do all the work

00:53:50.360 and i'm like she's raising resilient children

00:53:53.860 oh my gosh well simone i oh i found a new i got sucked into a new great ai story i've been working on

00:54:04.100 oh no i found out how to like synthesize them edit them and then turn them into audiobooks for people

00:54:09.020 so i am going to be posting those with episodes the one today that i was working on that i'm so

00:54:14.720 excited about i'm having a lot of fun with it so i've got that going on wonders never cease

00:54:20.640 the other fun thing today is we were rejected from andreessen horowitz with our second application

00:54:26.780 we got to the final round with both the school in the game project and now we've got to figure out

00:54:33.960 how to make them work on our own i mean the school is done and really nice and we just got to get it

00:54:38.460 in front of more people so that's where we are was at and the primary reason we were excited about

00:54:42.740 andreessen and the school is we felt that sales would be easier if we were an andreessen backed

00:54:47.560 school but no but it's made it's working yeah it's working i think on its own merits a lot of people

00:54:57.100 easy daily yeah yeah way more than i'd expect and well i mean i get it because i'm i'm addicted like

00:55:03.060 i can't i'm like i'm just gonna try it for five minutes and then two hours later like what what

00:55:08.280 happened and yet i know everything about chinese architecture now what's going on so if you are

00:55:12.600 interested in trying it it's a socratic tutor combined with a game like a tech tree you would

00:55:17.880 have in a video game and you can find it at collinsinstitute.org or paresia.io
