The father of the Georgia shooting suspect is being charged. Also, France has released Pavel Durov, and he has made his first statement to the public. The Tate brothers are released from house arrest. Elon Musk deletes a tweet about World War II and does a 180 on his opinion on the matter. And Candace goes over a philosophical question about liability in the wake of a school shooting. Do we blame the gun manufacturer or the manufacturer of the gun? And if so, should we blame them? And what would you do if it happened in a car crash, would you blame the manufacturer, or the car dealer? And is there anything we could have done to prevent it? And why is it so important to blame someone other than the manufacturer and gun manufacturer for a crime that happens in the first place? All that and much more on this episode of Candace's new podcast "Candace's Notebook" featuring Candace. Candace is a stand-up comedian, comedian, writer, and podcaster. 00:00:00.340When doctors, clinicians, and government officials collaborate with our country's innovative pharmaceutical companies, the side effects include improved policies that speed up the delivery of medications to those in need and better overall health for all Canadians.
00:00:15.360All right, guys, happy Friday. Today, I have updates, updates galore.
00:00:19.160OK, first and foremost, I'm sure you've heard of this, but the father of the Georgia shooting suspect is being charged.
00:00:25.400Talk about that. See whether or not you think that's fair in terms of legal processes.
00:00:30.700Also, France has released Pavel Durov, and he's made his first statement to the public.
00:00:35.540We're going to go over that. Romania has released the Tate brothers to house arrest, despite the fact that the prosecutors basically pleaded to have them both jailed.
00:00:43.500And then they appealed when the courts said no and they lost that appeal.
00:00:48.020So they are back home as well. And then Elon Musk, people are speaking about him because he rather conspicuously deleted a tweet that promoted Tucker Carlson's podcast episode with a historian.
00:01:00.000About World War II. And he seems to have done a little bit of a 180, perhaps, on his opinion.
00:01:05.540So what gives? We're going to talk about all of that today on Candace.
00:01:10.000All right. I know that we are no longer allowed to think in our society.
00:01:27.740Now we have people that are apparently elected to do the thinking for us. We have the experts. You're supposed to trust them.
00:01:33.720But I remember when I was in a senior year of high school, we had this class. It was a philosophy class called Senior Sam.
00:01:38.720And he used to come in every day with a debacle and he would ask us to just work through the philosophical question.
00:01:43.720And so today I'm going to give you guys a philosophical question regarding liability, you know, and this comes up all the time, especially after a school shooting, but in many other circumstances that we're going to go over today.
00:01:53.580But in terms of any sort of an accident or anything that's done on purpose, do we blame the manufacturers?
00:02:00.180Which is to say, if a school shooting happens, do we blame the gun?
00:02:04.540When somebody shoots another human being, do we blame the gun manufacturer?
00:02:07.980And some people are probably thinking, yes, we should, because these they're creating something that could kill someone.
00:02:14.280And if your answer is yes, and of course, you know that the slope then gets incredibly slippery, it would mean that you'd have to blame the manufacturer of alcohol when someone drinks and drives.
00:02:24.560It would also mean that you'd have to blame the car dealer if somebody got into a car and decided to run over 10 people.
00:02:30.580You go, OK, well, you created something that could kill someone.
00:02:32.860And so it's really interesting always to me when you look into the news and you see how the government deals with that question.
00:02:38.800And, of course, everybody right now is speaking about what happened in Georgia two days ago on September 4th.
00:02:43.820There was a shooting at Appalachee High School, which is, I think, about 50 miles or an hour outside of Atlanta, Georgia.
00:02:51.440And this took place in Winder, Georgia.
00:02:53.540Well, the GBI, that's the Georgia Borough of Investigation, identified those that were killed horrifically.
00:02:59.720It was four people, and their names are Richard Aspinwall, 39 years old, Christina Arimi, 53 years old.
00:03:06.980And then you had students, Mason Schirmerhorn and Christian Angula, who were both just 14.
00:03:14.000And, of course, what has shocked the nation is the fact that the shooter was just 14 years old himself.
00:03:21.500And it is ironic, darkly ironic, of course, that he is named after a gun.
00:03:26.260But now we have more details that are starting to come out, and it seems like this is the circumstance in all of these cases.
00:03:32.080I don't know how it is, but the FBI, the authorities were tipped off somehow, and then nothing really came of whatever it was that they were investigating.
00:03:39.800But it turns out that, yes, the Georgia authorities already had visited the home of Colin Gray, that's the father of Colt Gray, and his son, because the now alleged gunman who killed four people, apparently they had received a tip about alarming online messages that he had been posting that were threats to, quote, shoot up a middle school.
00:04:00.220It was a group chat that he was saying this on, on an app, Discord.
00:04:04.240And he was so terrifying about this that he also posted photographs of guns.
00:04:10.580And so they visited the home, and I guess that didn't result in anything.
00:04:15.720And so on one hand, people are very frustrated.
00:04:17.380On the other hand, the investigators are saying, what more could we have done?
00:04:20.680Like, we weren't positive if it was him.
00:04:22.440If you post a threat like that, what's the worst thing that could have happened?
00:04:34.880Well, I think at the very least, what we could have done is made sure that he didn't have any access to guns, right, to making sure that he was living in a safe environment.
00:04:43.420And the reality is that he was not, okay?
00:04:46.800And so it turns out that Colt Gray's parents were not the best examples in his life.
00:04:52.300They were going through a very bitter separation and a custody battle.
00:04:55.300And the family had been on the radar of the police department and the family and children's services department, the GBI said at a press conference.
00:05:05.340It's understood that the teenager was living with his father during the split, and it was a nasty one.
00:05:10.680As I said, his maternal grandfather told CNN that the boy had lived in an environment that was hostile, that his dad beat up on him.
00:05:18.500Like, and he said, quote, I'm not just talking about physical, but screaming and hollering.
00:05:24.520And he did the same thing to my daughter.
00:05:28.800So he was growing up in a household that was abusive, a lot of screaming.
00:05:33.140And then he says there was also drug and alcohol problems.
00:05:36.380And it turns out that that is true, that Colt Gray's mother, Marcy Gray, had been arrested multiple times.
00:05:41.440We're showing you right now a picture of her.
00:05:44.620Instantly, when you see somebody that is being arrested and they're smiling in their mugshot, there's a lot of conclusions that can instantly be drawn from that.
00:05:52.960She had been arrested multiple times and had been accused of drug offenses.
00:05:58.840So we're talking about somebody that's dealing with addiction, again, not a stable household, which always seems to be the environment that fosters this sort of behavior.
00:06:09.080But what's interesting is that authorities have made a move to charge his father, Colin Gray.
00:06:14.820Again, now this guy's 54 years old and he's being charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children.
00:06:24.320And they're saying that the reason they're charging him is because he's the one that allowed his son to possess a weapon.
00:06:32.180Apparently, dad is the one that brought Colt, the semi-automatic weapon, as a Christmas present.
00:06:39.100And dad's saying, well, that was just for hunting.
00:06:41.26014-year-olds, just so you know, I know we got the crowd that's like, we just need stricter laws by all measures and all laws.
00:06:48.460Because a 14-year-old is not supposed to possess a weapon.
00:06:51.040So his father buying him this, of course, is already breaking the law.
00:06:56.260His father allowing him to take that gun to school or not knowing that he took that gun to school is already breaking the law.
00:07:25.340Because as a parent, you have responsibility over your children.
00:07:29.240I know that seems like such a foreign concept, like a crazy concept now, that we're living in this over-liberal environment where people just think, oh, well, kids are their own entity.
00:07:39.020And if they're four years old and they decide that they want to be a fish, you just got to let them keep swimming in the bathtub and never come out if they say that they're a mermaid.
00:07:46.720I know we're living in that sort of a mental environment in America.
00:07:51.780At least we're fostering that sort of mental environment.
00:07:53.380But the reality is, is that you're in charge of your kids.
00:07:59.140You should know whether or not your children are having, fostering violent thoughts.
00:08:05.280And beyond that, when the authorities pay you a visit and tell you, hey, your child has been posting online about wanting to shoot up a school, maybe don't get them a gun for Christmas.
00:08:17.100And so you have a situation that I actually very much agree with.
00:08:21.440And I can imagine how that would ricochet if kids understood that their actions could be blamed on their parents.
00:08:27.960And I'm talking even a 16-year-old, if they're caught drunk driving and the police say, your mom and dad are going to have to spend 30 days in jail, it would rot the children inside and out.
00:08:37.020You know, it's this idea, this perceived idea of freedom and separation from the parents that I'm not comfortable with.
00:08:43.520I'm actually very much okay with this.
00:08:45.760But I find it quite odd, though, right?
00:08:47.700And I, again, never would blame the manufacturer of the gun.
00:08:51.300I very much believe that all Americans should legally possess a weapon, especially as our government grows increasingly more totalitarian, especially following COVID.
00:09:02.020I think every single person is starting to think that way, of realizing, wow, yeah, no, communism, socialism, not that far out of an idea here in America.
00:09:11.060And so I think it's okay to legally own weapons.
00:09:14.220But, of course, I would never blame the manufacturer if somebody uses a weapon incorrectly.
00:09:19.220And governments don't tend to take that stance unless they have the exact opposite perspective sometimes.
00:09:26.020In the unique case where the government themselves feels like they are out of control or out of the loop because I think we all recognize that our government is a gang.
00:09:35.340And we saw this, of course, last week or the week before.
00:09:38.900I think it was last week when Pavel Durov, the billionaire founder of Telegram, was arrested in France out of nowhere.
00:09:47.140We were told he's guilty of drug trafficking and sex trafficking and child sex trafficking, all of these things, because he created an app.
00:09:56.520And some people who he's never met and never seen have abused that app.
00:10:02.160It's incredible that the government would take that perspective whatsoever.
00:10:05.220And so a great update is that Pavel Durov is out after being held for four days.
00:10:11.020He has now released a statement about what he has gone through and what his perspective is.
00:10:17.820Thank you, everyone, for your support and love.
00:10:20.000Last month, I got interviewed by police for four days after arriving in Paris.
00:10:23.300I was told I may be personally responsible for other people's illegal use of Telegram because the French authorities didn't receive responses from Telegram.
00:10:32.240This was surprising for several reasons.
00:10:34.340One, Telegram has an official representative in the EU that accepts and replies to EU requests.
00:10:39.980Two, the French authorities had numerous ways to reach me to request assistance.
00:10:45.060As a French citizen, I was a frequent guest at the French consulate in Dubai.
00:10:49.100A while ago, when asked, I personally helped them establish a hotline with Telegram to deal with the threat of terrorism in France.
00:10:55.420Three, if a country is unhappy with an Internet service, the established practice is to start a legal action against the service itself.
00:11:25.160What do you think all these pharmaceutical companies are in bed with the FDA doing?
00:11:28.300OK, they want to stop human trafficking.
00:11:30.960Oh, the people that are in charge of the military industrial complex who won't answer any questions about what's happened to all of these Ukrainian children that have conspicuously gone missing.
00:11:39.820You want us to believe that they're really cracking down on Pavel Durov because they care about drugs and human trafficking?
00:11:52.060Establishing the right balance between privacy and security is not easy.
00:11:55.280You have to reconcile privacy laws with law enforcement requirements and local laws with EU laws.
00:11:59.460You have to take into account technological limitations.
00:12:02.160As a platform, you want your processes to be consistent globally while also ensuring they are not abused in countries with weak rule of law.
00:12:09.460Sometimes we can't agree with the country's regulator on the right balance between privacy and security.
00:12:13.520In those cases, we are ready to leave that country.
00:12:29.920We are prepared to leave markets that aren't compatible with our principles because we are not doing this for money.
00:12:35.120We are driven by the intention to bring good and defend the basic rights of people, particularly in places where these rights are violated.
00:12:42.540Well, I love that he says that because the reality, and if you're paying attention to what's happening in the West, you're starting to feel the squeeze.
00:12:48.120The reality is that our privacy and our rights have been violated very slowly over time.
00:12:59.200They call you stupid, fringe, conspiracy theorists.
00:13:02.320If you don't trust the media to tell you exactly what to think, you're way too far out for them.
00:13:09.020And they will try to ruin your lives sometimes, effectively try to ruin your lives.
00:13:13.220And so when you have a person like this who is truly fighting for freedom, fighting for us to be able to receive information that we know the mainstream media is never going to report on.
00:13:22.780That's why they want to go after him, because he was able to show people live.
00:13:26.360I mean, really, Telegram blew up throughout the Russian-Ukrainian war, that conflict, because people were showing what was happening to Ukrainian soldiers as we were being told that everything that was happening there was moral.
00:13:38.200We were going, wait a second, what is this?
00:13:39.500Why does this look like something the Bolsheviks would be doing?
00:13:42.700Christian men being pulled out of their homes, the crosses around their necks against their will, being thrown onto the front lines.
00:14:29.100It is good that the world is paying attention.
00:14:30.620And it is good to continue to speak about Pavel Durov and what is happening in Telegram,
00:14:35.600because even if you are not on the app, I am not.
00:14:38.320It has far-reaching implications, so we're going to continue to cover that story.
00:14:42.000All right, guys, don't go away, because I really want you to look at this strange Elon Musk delete of a tweet and see what you think about it.
00:14:49.020But first, I want to remind you about Ground News, which is something that we all know well,
00:14:53.240that there is extreme bias, as we just said, in the mainstream media.
00:14:56.060I started this show to have honest conversations and fight for freedom of speech,
00:15:00.020and that's not easy in today's media environment.
00:15:01.880But there's a news platform that helps me see different perspectives on any news story
00:15:05.560and understand what's really happening in the world, and that's Ground News.
00:15:08.780It's an app and a website that prioritizes free speech and transparency without controlling the narrative.
00:15:13.940They pull related articles from around the world in one place,
00:15:16.460showing you every side of the story and highlighting each source's political bias and corporate influence.
00:15:22.280Ground News is an incredible tool that cuts through the noise and gives you a clear view of what's really going on.
00:15:26.720They've even created a blind spot fee that exposes what the other side of the political spectrum isn't covering.
00:15:30.840It's all about bringing back transparency and promoting honest civil discourse.
00:15:34.700So go to groundnews.com slash Candace to get 40% off the Ground News Vantage plan,
