00:00:00.000 Today, I'm sharing five stay-at-home mom life hacks.
00:00:04.200 If you are new to my channel,
00:00:05.360 here we talk about classic living and traditional values,
00:00:07.920 and I would love if you would consider subscribing
00:00:09.300 and hitting that notification bell.
00:00:11.300 Lately, we've been focusing a lot on homemaking
00:00:13.560 and stay-at-home mom life,
00:00:15.700 and I have gone through kind of a metamorphosis
00:00:18.000 from being a girl boss-minded individual
00:00:20.920 to being a stay-at-home mom.
00:00:22.520 So I'm really excited to share this video
00:00:24.400 with you guys today.
00:00:25.380 If you are wondering why I sound a little bit off,
00:00:28.180 it's because I've had a cold and a cough,
00:00:30.560 and it's just lasting forever,
00:00:31.960 so I guess this is my life now.
00:00:34.100 But as a stay-at-home mom,
00:00:35.460 I find that there are certain things
00:00:37.220 that really make a big difference
00:00:38.820 to how your day runs and how you feel about your day,
00:00:42.680 so I want to share a few of those ideas with you guys.
00:00:45.560 Now, they're not really life hacks.
00:00:47.420 I don't know, maybe they are.
00:00:48.380 You can decide.
00:00:49.280 But I would say they're more like things you can do
00:00:51.780 to make your days go smoothly, be fun, and enjoyable.
00:00:55.820 So let's just get into today's video.
00:00:57.320 P.S., if you didn't know, I am 34 weeks pregnant,
00:01:00.620 so that's why I'm out of breath.
00:01:01.960 So we're six weeks away from our next son joining our family,
00:01:05.560 and I am super excited,
00:01:07.480 but also enjoying him being, you know,
00:01:10.900 taken care of internally
00:01:12.340 and not needing to wake up with him
00:01:14.960 every two hours in the middle of the night
00:01:16.860 and nurse him eight times a day.
00:01:18.560 So I love that stuff.
00:01:19.960 It's fun, but I'm enjoying not having to do it quite yet.
00:01:23.440 In any case, let's start with number one,
00:01:25.800 which is never be home.
00:01:27.840 A funny thing about being a stay-at-home mom,
00:01:30.180 to a toddler at least,
00:01:32.020 is that actually you're not at home.
00:01:34.360 Like calling it a stay-at-home mom
00:01:35.840 is a silly, it's a silly thing to call it,
00:01:38.540 and it's something I've really learned.
00:01:40.740 So when the baby is smaller,
00:01:42.520 when he's not crawling or walking,
00:01:45.740 then yeah, you do spend a lot of time at home
00:01:47.640 because you can.
00:01:48.300 You can take care of the house.
00:01:49.860 You can take care of the chores.
00:01:50.660 You can do some things while the baby plays,
00:01:53.320 you know, on their belly,
00:01:54.660 doing tummy time or on their back and relaxing.
00:01:57.740 You can do more around the house.
00:01:59.720 But as your child starts to move around more
00:02:02.440 and gets more active and gets more busy,
00:02:05.000 then it's actually more fun for them
00:02:08.320 to take them out and let them get their wiggles out.
00:02:10.940 And it's kind of nice for you
00:02:12.360 because you don't have to pick up
00:02:14.900 after the inevitable mess that happens
00:02:17.040 when you have a child at home.
00:02:18.660 So for me, and I know this is true
00:02:21.000 for a lot of stay-at-home moms,
00:02:22.360 we just don't stay at home.
00:02:23.900 We go out and do things.
00:02:25.720 So for me, in the mornings, we do classes.
00:02:27.900 We go to little gyms.
00:02:28.940 We go to parks.
00:02:30.020 And in the afternoon, we do chores.
00:02:31.700 Sometimes we do parks in the afternoon.
00:02:33.760 And so a lot of our day is actually spent out and about,
00:02:36.460 which is great for him.
00:02:37.560 He gets a lot of fresh air.
00:02:38.740 I don't feel stuck at home.
00:02:40.340 And that title of being a stay-at-home mom
00:02:43.580 just doesn't hold any water
00:02:45.360 because the truth is you're not at home most of the time.
00:02:47.860 When you are home, that's your office.
00:02:50.160 That's where you take care of your chores.
00:02:52.420 You make sure everything is clean.
00:02:53.580 You cook.
00:02:54.580 But for much of the day,
00:02:56.900 you're out and about with your kiddos.
00:02:58.740 And I think that that is a really good perspective to have.
00:03:02.620 If you are a stay-at-home mom
00:03:04.460 and you're with your toddler
00:03:05.660 and you're kind of tired of the messes happening
00:03:07.600 at your house all the time,
00:03:09.360 consider going out and about more.
00:03:11.000 Go out to the park.
00:03:12.660 Go explore play gyms around your area.
00:03:14.780 Do play dates.
00:03:15.580 Find things to do that aren't at home
00:03:18.180 so you don't go stir crazy
00:03:19.400 so your baby gets some fresh air
00:03:21.480 and enjoyment and wiggles out
00:03:23.200 and so that you can enjoy kind of peace and quiet at home
00:03:27.600 but excitement and fun out.
00:03:30.760 Number two is teach your babies to help you.
00:03:34.260 This is a huge one.
00:03:35.920 And I think that this is something
00:03:37.180 we've really lost the thread on in today's day and age.
00:03:39.700 I think for a lot of parents,
00:03:41.840 they think that parenting is entertaining
00:03:43.600 and so they're constantly looking for entertainment,
00:03:46.120 for stimulation,
00:03:46.880 for things for their kids to do
00:03:47.880 that are exciting and keep them occupied.
00:03:50.880 And yes, that's an element of parenting,
00:03:53.120 don't get me wrong.
00:03:54.140 But a lot of parenting is also teaching your kids
00:03:56.640 how to be people
00:03:57.940 and how to help you in the home.
00:04:00.720 So when my son is helping me cook,
00:04:03.600 it's not only for his benefit.
00:04:05.660 It actually is fun for him as well.
00:04:07.320 He wants to help.
00:04:08.360 He's learning something
00:04:09.440 but he's also doing something new.
00:04:12.120 And so I find that by teaching him to help me,
00:04:15.140 first of all, it keeps him occupied.
00:04:16.960 It makes my tasks slightly longer
00:04:19.340 depending on what they are,
00:04:20.420 sometimes much longer
00:04:21.260 but for the most part, slightly longer
00:04:23.320 but I'm also not having to keep track of a toddler
00:04:25.580 who just wants my attention.
00:04:27.400 He can have my attention
00:04:28.720 because we're working together.
00:04:30.220 For example, a really easy one
00:04:31.780 that we do every single week
00:04:33.120 is we make bread together.
00:04:35.160 Now, I use a bread machine
00:04:36.320 so it's very simple.
00:04:37.280 We just add all the ingredients into the bread bin
00:04:39.640 but he loves that
00:04:41.140 because he gets to pour things,
00:04:43.420 he gets to mix things
00:04:44.700 and it's just a really fun activity for the two of us.
00:04:48.220 Every time I make him breakfast, he helps me.
00:04:51.600 Every time we do certain chores around the house,
00:04:54.920 he is there and participating.
00:04:56.860 Now, there are certain chores
00:04:58.000 that are a little bit trickier
00:04:59.140 like unloading the dishwasher
00:05:00.800 because if there's glass or ceramic,
00:05:03.120 there's still a very high chance we'll drop it
00:05:04.760 and it will shatter.
00:05:05.960 So, that's a tricky one.
00:05:08.000 Even though I would like for him to help,
00:05:09.760 as he gets older,
00:05:10.480 that's something that I'm going to encourage him to do.
00:05:12.840 But if, say, I am unloading the car
00:05:15.860 from the grocery store,
00:05:17.320 I will give him a light thing to hold
00:05:19.400 like a box of noodles
00:05:20.960 and I'll say,
00:05:21.780 okay, let's go.
00:05:22.760 Come on inside.
00:05:23.940 And he'll help me unload the car.
00:05:25.680 Now, is it really that helpful?
00:05:27.000 Well, no, but it's something
00:05:27.980 that is kind of entertaining for him
00:05:29.740 but also is teaching him a skill
00:05:31.420 and is keeping him occupied with me.
00:05:34.180 And that makes a huge difference to parenting
00:05:36.620 is if you stop thinking of everything
00:05:38.240 needing to be entertainment
00:05:39.300 and something separate from you,
00:05:41.120 then he can enjoy what you're doing
00:05:43.280 alongside you and learn in the process.
00:05:46.320 Number three is tidy a little bit constantly.
00:05:50.060 If you don't do this,
00:05:51.240 your house gets out of control.
00:05:53.460 So I find that if I just am constantly tidying
00:05:57.100 rather than trying to leave it all
00:05:58.880 for one day of the week
00:06:00.340 or for one hour every day,
00:06:02.640 then it doesn't build up in the same way,
00:06:04.760 which is so much easier.
00:06:06.240 So if he makes a little mess
00:06:07.680 and then moves on to something else,
00:06:08.840 okay, I'll put away that mess
00:06:09.880 and I'll follow him to see what he's doing next.
00:06:12.380 Or if he throws his food on the floor,
00:06:13.920 I used to just let it sit for a few hours
00:06:15.940 and then get to it later
00:06:16.860 and it was kind of gross.
00:06:18.220 Now I do it while he's in the high chair.
00:06:20.080 I take care of it.
00:06:21.160 So he doesn't get to make more of a mess
00:06:23.260 when he gets out of the high chair
00:06:24.260 and the messes don't kind of add on to each other.
00:06:27.940 Or when he goes down for his nap,
00:06:29.180 I try to take like a 10 minute period of cleaning
00:06:32.080 and just constantly kind of keeping track of those messes
00:06:35.220 so that they don't build up
00:06:36.600 will allow you to have a much cleaner home.
00:06:40.260 And that brings me to number four,
00:06:42.020 which is use nap time or quiet time to your advantage.
00:06:45.760 Now my son still takes a two hour nap every day
00:06:48.140 and sometimes it doesn't always end up being two hours,
00:06:50.980 but on most days it's about two hours.
00:06:52.640 And I know that for some of you,
00:06:54.360 your kids have outgrown nap time.
00:06:55.820 Maybe you're still doing quiet time,
00:06:57.660 but nap time is your time.
00:07:00.080 So using it well as a stay-at-home mom is imperative.
00:07:04.100 Whether that mean it's just a time for you to relax
00:07:06.760 or it's time for you to tidy
00:07:08.820 or it's a time for you to take care of some work
00:07:10.860 you have to do or bills or whatever,
00:07:13.040 nap time is for you.
00:07:14.920 So use that time, embrace that time,
00:07:18.180 and make sure you are getting out of it
00:07:20.220 what you want to get out of it.
00:07:20.900 Don't waste it.
00:07:22.160 Think of it as your time every day.
00:07:24.340 Because in the evenings, theoretically,
00:07:25.780 you're spending that with your spouse, your husband.
00:07:28.040 So it's nice to have time that is just for you every day
00:07:31.880 while your baby is asleep or in quiet time.
00:07:34.620 And I've found that I like to use it
00:07:36.420 for something different all the time.
00:07:38.460 Sometimes it's a nap for me when I'm really tired.
00:07:41.680 Sometimes it's completely cleaning the house,
00:07:44.220 doing a deep clean.
00:07:45.060 Sometimes it's cooking dinner.
00:07:46.280 Sometimes it's reading or watching a show
00:07:49.840 or getting to exercise.
00:07:51.840 But it's not always the same thing,
00:07:53.220 but it is always imperative I take advantage of it.
00:07:55.880 And it makes stay-at-home mom life so nice
00:07:58.400 when you have that just two-hour, whatever,
00:08:01.200 however long break that you can focus and enjoy.
00:08:05.720 My last piece of advice for stay-at-home moms
00:08:08.380 is read a lot of books.
00:08:09.860 I am currently in the middle of a bunch
00:08:12.380 of different parenting books, and I am loving it.
00:08:15.240 I've actually read a few, and I'm currently finishing a few.
00:08:18.580 And I'm planning on doing a reading list
00:08:20.780 in the next few weeks of the books that I've read
00:08:23.500 that I think are really valuable and helpful.
00:08:25.860 And the cool thing about being a stay-at-home mom
00:08:27.440 is that you actually have the time
00:08:28.960 to read those books sometimes.
00:08:30.760 Now, I don't actually sit down and read books.
00:08:32.980 When I say I have the time, I mean I listen to audio books.
00:08:35.580 So while I'm cleaning the house or while I'm driving,
00:08:37.780 I listen to audio books, and I am really learning
00:08:41.060 a lot about parenting, about homemaking
00:08:43.900 through these books.
00:08:45.920 And I really think that if you are a stay-at-home mom,
00:08:49.380 it's important that you take advantage of that
00:08:51.060 and kind of try to educate yourself
00:08:53.060 during the times that you have an opportunity.
00:08:56.380 So I know I've learned a ton about parenting my son,
00:08:59.440 a ton about how I want to kind of take care of my home,
00:09:03.340 and it makes a really big difference
00:09:05.340 to how I approach being a stay-at-home mom.
00:09:08.280 So that is it for today's video.
00:09:10.460 I would love to know if you have any life hacks
00:09:12.380 as a stay-at-home mom.
