Hello, Classic Crew, and welcome to today's episode of The Scoop.
00:00:07.220
If you're new to my channel, The Scoop is our opportunity to catch up, have a cup of coffee,
00:00:12.460
just kind of go over what's going on in our lives, what happened over the course of the week,
00:00:16.520
and it's just a time for us to have a good chat. So I always have a little cup of coffee,
00:00:21.800
or I try to. It's fall themed today. I love this cup. I got it for $5 from Target,
00:00:27.000
and it makes me super happy. So grab a cup of coffee, or grab a cup of tea, or even just some
00:00:32.620
water, and let's get into it. So the first thing that I want to talk about is the fact that we
00:00:37.260
have officially moved. Welcome to my new space. So exciting. I'm really excited because my studio
00:00:45.320
here is about a third bigger than the studio that I had in Nebraska, so I have a lot more space to
00:00:50.800
play with, and it's just much more comfortable, and I've been loving coming up with a new kind
00:00:56.780
of idea for what I wanted my background to look like. So we had this in our basement in Nebraska,
00:01:02.260
and we don't have a basement here in Virginia. So I thought maybe it would be a cool kind of look
00:01:07.760
for my background if I hung up some clothes that I wear seasonally, and that could be the way that
00:01:12.700
I change up the look of my background with the seasons. And that was really fun to put together.
00:01:17.960
I hope you guys like it. Let me know in the comments if you do. My mom personally thinks that
00:01:22.840
this corner is a little bit crowded. She may not be wrong, but I love fall so much right now that I
00:01:28.660
just kind of wanted to put all of my fall-themed decor in this area since I don't have a shelf on
00:01:34.260
this side anymore. So if it's too much, let me know. I will take some of those pieces away, but I did
00:01:41.180
want to hear your guys' thoughts on it because, as you know, I'm really excited about fall and pumpkins
00:01:47.360
and my perfumes and all the things that I kind of keep back here. Which, by the way, I do want to
00:01:52.560
mention one thing in this video. If you guys remember, in my fall decor video, I talked about
00:01:57.060
a candle that I was loving from Kohl's called Cashmere Pumpkin by Scentworks. They also have
00:02:02.240
it in a spray, and it smells so good. It's a body spray, so it's, you know, it's kind of like a perfume,
00:02:09.260
and I just love wearing it right now. It's so cozy and sweet, but I really, really like it. So this is
00:02:16.960
something I would recommend if you're looking for something that isn't expensive at all and is just
00:02:20.980
something nice to wear kind of during the fall season. But if you guys watched my vlog, which I will
00:02:26.400
link up above here, we did drive from Omaha to Virginia, and that was an 18-hour drive, and surprisingly,
00:02:33.540
the drive itself wasn't so bad. I haven't done a drive that long, I don't think, ever, and it was really
00:02:38.980
not that hard. I personally have a little bit of a hard time driving at night, but Jacob doesn't mind
00:02:44.860
driving at night at all. I am very comfortable driving during the day. That is easy peasy. I can
00:02:50.020
do that. So I took the day shift, he took the night shift, and we got in here. We made it to our new home,
00:02:56.200
and we're so excited about it. We did hit a few hiccups along the way, so it wasn't just easy breezy,
00:03:02.800
but the driving itself wasn't so bad, and that was something that I wasn't totally expecting.
00:03:08.080
But what I kind of realized is that moving just generally is really stressful. It's not even about
00:03:13.940
getting the boxes packed and getting everything on the truck. That stuff is, of course, stressful too,
00:03:19.020
but there's an emotional toll it sort of takes on you, because you're trying to figure out
00:03:23.380
what is my life going to look like? How is my routine going to change? Just everything is in flux
00:03:28.960
all at the same time, and that's a really tiring feeling. I am somebody who thrives off of my routine,
00:03:36.500
and so not having a routine for as long as we did was really hard. The first day that we kind of had
00:03:42.660
everything unpacked here and I was able to just sit down and do work was like a breath of relief
00:03:47.800
for me. I really, really appreciate having a set schedule for myself, and so that was a bit of a
00:03:55.160
hard thing for me. Now that we're here, I am feeling so much more settled and calm. Now we are about 99%
00:04:01.500
of the way unpacked, and that is all thanks to my amazing mom who flew out and was an absolute whirlwind
00:04:08.080
and just made it so that we had to have everything unpacked. She went through all the boxes,
00:04:12.460
she figured out where everything was going, she helped me make decisions, and it was just so
00:04:16.380
helpful. I love her so much, and I am so grateful to her for her help. Pretty much all we have left
00:04:21.140
to do is hang up the pictures, so I'm looking forward to doing that, because that for me is
00:04:25.180
the final step in making a house really feel like your home. But in my experience, and I'd love to hear
00:04:30.200
in the comments, what was the hardest part of unpacking for you if you've recently moved or if you
00:04:35.280
remember moving? Because for me, it's always the kitchen. The kitchen here is much smaller than our
00:04:41.900
last kitchen, which it's not an issue for cooking. What makes it an issue is storage. Where does
00:04:47.520
everything go? So we actually bought a wire shelving unit that we put in the corner of the room so we
00:04:53.500
could kind of treat that as a pantry because I don't have a pantry. And just trying to decide, okay,
00:04:57.920
where is everything going to go when there's not enough space for it? Very, very stressful. We made it
00:05:03.540
work and everything fit, but it was a little bit different than I anticipated because I didn't
00:05:07.920
really realize how much smaller the kitchen was here, which is okay. It just was a difficult
00:05:12.660
transition to get everything kind of put into its place. Decision fatigue is a real thing,
00:05:18.180
trying to make decisions over and over and over again about what you're going to do and where
00:05:22.940
things need to go. It just gets tiring, but I do have some tips and tricks about how to unpack a house
00:05:28.840
and make that a little bit more doable. If you guys are interested in a video about that,
00:05:33.340
let me know in the comments because I would love to do a video, maybe the classic girl's guide to
00:05:37.400
unpacking and talk about how I do it and what I need to do to make the whole process a little bit
00:05:43.840
easier. Next up, I want to talk about my classically Abby earrings, which I absolutely love. As you guys
00:05:49.480
know, I designed these earrings with Rachel and jewelry. I'll link the video up above where I kind of
00:05:54.880
revealed that collaboration and the pre-order sale for these earrings ends tomorrow. So the pre-order
00:06:01.420
sale is actually going to give you a really good discount. They normally retail for $88, but during
00:06:06.800
the pre-sale, they're only $75 and tomorrow is the last day you can get them for that price. After
00:06:12.080
that, we're going to close sales for a week and then retail is going to open and they're going to be
00:06:16.220
at their normal retail price, which is $88. But I think these again would make a beautiful gift for
00:06:22.080
family, friends, for yourself. I just recently wore them to a wedding and I felt so beautiful. So I hope
00:06:28.440
you guys love them as much as I do. And if you do want to save some money, tomorrow is the last day to
00:06:32.640
buy them for that discounted price. The next thing I wanted to talk about is weddings. So I have actually
00:06:38.620
been to two weddings during this pandemic and I'm going to a third. And of course, we're taking the
00:06:44.520
necessary precautions. We're being very safe. But I have learned something really beautiful about
00:06:50.420
weddings during this time. There's something very unique about getting married during a pandemic.
00:06:56.580
Of course, there's a lot of things that are unique. But what I've learned is how absolutely special
00:07:01.540
they can be. Weddings are always meaningful no matter when you go to them. I absolutely
00:07:06.500
love weddings. But there's something really important about recognizing that the wedding is a party
00:07:13.480
and it's not the actual point of the day. The point of the day is that you two are joining your
00:07:19.940
lives in matrimony and you're going to spend your lives together and your life gets to start together
00:07:25.620
that day. And I do feel like during this pandemic, that's something that's been kind of a good reminder
00:07:32.020
is that the wedding is fun and it's really special and great. But the marriage is what matters. And
00:07:39.880
marrying the person who is your other half and who you are going to build a life with, that needs to
00:07:46.900
start with or without a party. And the weddings that we've gone to, I've seen how much these couples
00:07:52.020
cherish that and how seriously they take that commitment. That they are willing to maybe forego
00:07:59.160
something that is a huge event so that they can begin their lives together. Because the actual purpose
00:08:05.220
of a wedding is not a party. It's about marriage. It's about bringing two people together and having
00:08:11.060
them start a family, a life together. And bringing the focus back to that I think is a really beautiful
00:08:17.120
and wonderful thing. Now I'm not saying that any of this is ideal. I'm not saying that they're in a
00:08:21.620
great situation. I'm just saying there is a positive spin to this, which is the reminder of what weddings
00:08:26.920
are really about. And I've seen that in the couples that we've seen get married during this time, just
00:08:32.520
celebrating what really matters. And it's really beautiful. The next thing I want to talk about
00:08:37.320
is what I've been watching. So Jacob and I have been watching a show called Forged in Fire on the
00:08:43.020
History Channel. And it is awesome. So here's the story of how this all started. My husband was kind
00:08:49.600
of told by a friend that there was this cool show and he should try watching it. And so he was watching
00:08:54.240
an episode and I walked into the room and I was so surprised at what I was looking at. They were taking
00:09:00.540
a sword and thwapping all of these different items. And I was just thinking to myself, oh my gosh,
00:09:06.080
this is so intense. What are you watching? And then we got hooked and we couldn't stop watching
00:09:11.620
it. And basically what the idea is that they have bladesmiths, master bladesmiths compete to see who's
00:09:19.680
the best bladesmith of the four in each episode. And so they have to compete and create weapons or
00:09:27.120
create knives or create really interesting swords. And by the end of the episode, they choose a winner
00:09:32.680
and that winner gets $10,000. And I have learned so much about sword making, so much about how to make
00:09:39.160
a blade, quenching. I don't know if you ever watched the show. If you have, let me know in the comments
00:09:44.120
below. But if you're somebody who likes competition shows and thinks that they're kind of interesting
00:09:47.920
and fun, I don't watch pretty much any anymore. I used to watch them more, but now I don't really.
00:09:53.360
But this is a really good one because it's so interesting to learn something about kind of the
00:09:58.780
chemistry of how this all works and also just to see actual weapons being made. It's really, really
00:10:05.380
cool. Also, the judges on the show are so likable and fun to watch. Doug Marcheta is super likable and
00:10:12.220
he's so much fun to watch and he enjoys swinging these weapons around and that's really cool. So if
00:10:18.540
you are looking for a show that you can just watch one episode and really turn it off because each show
00:10:23.260
doesn't build on the next one, then this might be a really good fit for you. A bunch of episodes are
00:10:28.020
on Hulu so you can easily find it there. The last thing I want to talk about is the confirmation of
00:10:33.480
Amy Coney Barrett. So today is the day that she is being confirmed to the Supreme Court. She is going
00:10:39.260
to officially be a Supreme Court Justice and I could not be more excited about it. I think she is so
00:10:45.660
wonderful and I really enjoyed listening to her hearings. First of all, I think that listening to
00:10:50.820
Supreme Court hearings is generally just really, really interesting. They give you a really clear
00:10:55.520
understanding of where each senator stands when they question the nominee to the Supreme Court.
00:11:01.200
And it's all posed in a way that's very straightforward and easy enough for an average person to
00:11:05.840
understand, not somebody who's had a huge education in law school or something, but the average person
00:11:10.880
can watch this and know what's going on. And you get to feel like a participant in the proceedings,
00:11:15.340
which I find fascinating. And even though I don't necessarily like the questions that the senators ask,
00:11:20.360
it's kind of like getting a behind-the-scenes look into what really goes on on the Senate floor,
00:11:25.220
which is just fascinating to watch, really cool and interesting, and a look into how our government
00:11:30.940
runs. The other part of it is seeing what a star Amy Coney Barrett is. There was the iconic moment
00:11:37.520
in the hearings where she held up a blank notepad because she didn't have any notes in front of her
00:11:42.220
during the entire set of hearings because she didn't need it. She just wanted a blank notepad in
00:11:46.880
case she needed to write something down, but she didn't need a whole notebook of notes in front of her
00:11:50.260
because she was prepared, which I thought was really cool. And she has shown women that you
00:11:55.200
can really have it all. As Senator Marsha Blackburn said, just not all at the same time. But she is such
00:12:01.600
an inspiration to women who do want to have a family but also have a mission because she's doing
00:12:07.300
both. She has a really wonderfully large family and also is doing something that matters to her
00:12:14.000
and that she feels is important to pursue. And on top of that, she's really honest and she's not
00:12:19.740
going to use her position as a Supreme Court Justice for advocacy, but she's going to stand up for what
00:12:25.000
she believes in as an originalist. And that's what we want from a Supreme Court Justice. Someone who is
00:12:30.060
going to be true to the Constitution and true to the laws that the legislature passes and isn't going
00:12:35.660
to kind of act like a senator who can't be voted out. So I am so inspired by her and I'm so excited
00:12:42.740
to see her confirmed as a Justice of the Supreme Court. I think she can be a huge role model for a
00:12:49.120
lot of us, a lot of conservative women, and I just think that it is an amazing thing to see somebody
00:12:55.240
like her on the highest court of the United States. Let me know in the comments what you're feeling
00:13:01.660
about Amy Coney Barrett being confirmed to the Supreme Court. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
